Mr Cheapo CDs in other cities:
What an awesome place CDs, DVDs, Blu-rays even hard to find stuff just pure Nostalgia love coming here love the actual looking for a CD or a Blu-ray or even just surprisedly finding something to my surprise. Thank goodness that there are still places like this reminds me of the good old days walking into a record store. I definitely recommend this place love it will always come here
This place is just ok and some of the prices on used stuff is a bit high. Also this store is not COVID-19 friendly . Aisles are way to small staff does not respect the general 6 ft rule. Had been bumped into by staff a few times while looking at records and CD’s. Owner acted as if I was wrong. Just walked out . Sorry for the negative comment. Other stores on LI are larger and safer. Will not return here.
This is probably my favorite store on Long Island. I’ve been a regular at Mr. Cheapos for at least 5 years now and I’ve never had a bad experience. The staff is delightful and helpful. They work hard to keep the place organized and are friendly. The selection is excellent as well! Records, CDs, Cassette, their inventory is impressive. I always look forward to my next visit to Mr. Cheapo’s. Bringing friends there is always fun as well. I am incredibly grateful for them surviving Covid thus far and look forward to returning as soon as I can!
They have a great selection of most genres, especially old school thrash metal and rock albums.. They even have a small video game selection with old school titles. Thanks for selling me the Xbox. Sad to say my last experience in the store was anything but fun. I was treated extremely rudely by one of their employees, as such I dont see myself going back there. Cheers.
Great please to search for that vinyl record you have been looking for. Their prices are excellent and the quality and selection is very diverse. The staff are friendly and helpful if you ask them anything. Otherwise they wont bother you while you look thru their 1000s of records, cds and even cassette tapes! Being a suburban store, they have much better selections vs the pretentious Manhattan and Brooklyn stores.
First I want to say that the vinyl revival has been great and I am glad this store is there although in much need of improvement. There used to be some very cool and helpful people there but no more. The current bunch are rude and unhelpful making it clear they dont want to engage in talking of any kind. The vinyl in the back is not in good condition and is way overpriced. An example of this was a Louie Armstrong plays Handy that they marked for 39.99.Maybe It would be reasonable for $3.99.The Cd section is ok but almost all the cases are cracked and dirty.
Terrific treasure chest of items, many out of print, at reduced prices. When you walk in, it can seem kind of intimidating at first. But soon youll realize everything is very well organized. Most of the items are in alphabetical order, which I know helps me locate things a lot easier. There is usually staff nearby to help, if needed. Love Mr. Cheapos!
Just like the title says, you can find tons of CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray discs, even old school VHS & cassettes that you cant find in most other places. They even take your old stuff for store credit, & theyre not without several items of memorabilia to sell. A great place for hard-to-find items!
I do love heading here to look through their stock, but it is worth noting that they tend to overprice more popular records on purpose. As general advice, come here to search the stacks for random fun and discoveries. If you have a popular record in mind then you may want to check out Discogs instead. Overall it is a nice store and most of the employees are friendly once you get to know them. Lots of records and CDs. Decent selection of cassettes. Some reel to reel and 8 track.
I am a frequent customer of the Commack store and recently went to the MIneola location! All I can say is wow! Best Record Store in the tr-state area and the employees are super helpful and knowledgeable. they sell so much cool vintage stuff & new and never walk out empty handed. Long Live Cheapos!
Great store for your music & video needs. Ive also found some great rare video game gems here. Most of the time, overstock items are in boxes on floor. Youll want to wear clothes that you can get dirty just in case you want to get down on your knees to look items that on lower shelves on in boxes. After looking at a box full of Nintendo cartridges, down on the floor, my clothes and shoes were filthy. Sadly, sweeping or moping isnt one of the staffs highest priorities.
Well stocked and well organized. Great selection for rock genre, but not so for Hip-Hop and R&B. Although their price is somewhat uncompetitive comparing to Amazon. You can even get some brand new CDs in Walmart or Bestbuy for the same price comparing to their used ones. They definitely know the market price. If you are looking for a steal. I wouldnt recommend this place. But otherwise this is a good store for oldies, vinyls, CDs and fans of rock music.
Not witstanding an extraordinary choice of lps an cds I was disarmed by thr kindness of the owners and staff and by their willingness to help locate what i was looking for. Beside the prices were unbeatable. I highly recommend the store for music aficionados or for that matter anyone music lover.
I’m so done with this place. I’m going to post a seperate review stating the many other reasons this place, well the people there mostly, are the worst, most unprofessional in the business. But I won’t get into those details here, this post is actually for something so simple that it’s beyond baffling that I even have to do this. Anyway, I called them to find a pretty hard to find item as I’ve done many times in the past and that they actually do have it in stock. I tell them that I should be there either tonight or tomorrow, as my schedule is pretty hectic and I live in queens and work out in the Hamptons so I don’t get much time to do these things. But here I am, finding myself with an hour or so to spare tonight, so I decide to take the drive out. I look on the website just to confirm that they are open until 8, and even call them back asking to make sure of the hours, and it is indeed 8 pm. I did hit a little traffic coming out but I pulled up to the place at 7:55, run around the corner, just to see the lights off and the place is closed. I drove 45 minutes for an $8 item that I would have rather, now in the past, given them the money before buying it online or somewhere more convenient, but I know the true meaning of supporting local independent record stores, and if that means giving them a tiny amount of my business that I’m doing my part. But I’ve officially learned they do not care about the customer. I won’t get further in depth on my opinion here because this review has been years in the making and I want to completely think out the next and last one I’ll be leaving for them. But to think, that staying open until your scheduled time that is posted publicly online, is too much extra work, it just shows the total disrespect for the guy on the other side of the counter, us. 5 minutes and you lost a customer for life. Such a shame.
Needed some CDs for My elderly father-in-law, show tunes and some of the old time crooners. Not only did they have all of those and more, but they had a DVD for our grandson who happened to be with us. Staff extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Whether ur just looking for something that the big chains no longer carry or ur a real audiophile looking for a rare recording, this is definitely the place to look! Will be back for sure.
Prices are all over the place and are to high for basic LPs. No deals also. If Im stacking and have about 7-10 LPs take $5 off or just round it off to a price. Do that and you would have sold a stack.. but I just got 1 LP at a ok price. The good thing is this is not the last store on the planet.
Walking into Mr. Cheapo is like walking into a scene from the John Hughs movie High Fidelity. It is filled with album antique as well as new material, has the Dead Poets Society like vibe for coolness and lack of comformity, but most of all it has the tunes and the artwork.Great selection of vinyl, cds and more. This place is an institution and worth a day trip even if you are just going for the experience.
I went here recently to by an album for my dad as a gift and it couldnt have been easier. I called ahead to check if they had it and they said they would just leave it by the register for me to pick up. I got there about an hour later, and was in and out in less than 5 minutes. I wish Id taken the time to look around more though, because it seems like they have quite the selection of vinyl and CDs.
I love Mr. Cheapo. But even if I didnt already love the place heres an example of why...Im going to see a live podcast next week called How Did This Get Made, where they watch an old ridiculous movie and then discuss the ridiculousness therein. They announced that the movie for the live show would be Freejack, a movie Ive never seen before. It was also not available on the internet to stream, rent or buy. I googled DVD stores in the area with no real hope of finding this obscure out of print movie. Oh duh, Mr. Cheapo popped up on Yelp. I bet they actually have that movie. I called up and of course they did and the manager Jessica held the copy for me to pick up. It probably wouldnt have been as fun the see the podcast if I hadnt seen the movie but now I can for just $2.99.So, thanks Mr. Cheapo for enriching my life again.(And I also got a mint copy of the Hair soundtrack. Booya!)

2022-07-07This place has been here forever. Easy to see right off of Jericho Turnpike servicing Mineola and the adjoining areas of Nassau County. Metered Parking on the street is available. Moderately clean facilities. Vinyl Albums, CDs, and Video games are the main items. They also buy from collectors as well. You have to do some digging but, Im sure youll find something to your liking.Thank you to the owner for responding. You have a unique business. We look forward to patronizing your establishment again soon.ESJ

2022-01-17Hi! I just wanted to say that this store is probably my favourite record store Ive ever been to whenever Im in NY. To be honest Ive only been to the Mineola location two times, but from the first time I went back around 2019, Ive always wanted to stop by the store whenever Im at my cousins house nearby. Stopped by December of last year. Picked up some records and a hat. Love from Canada :) ❤️

2018-11-23This place is a classic visit down memory lane. In addition vinyl records they have cassets, cds and even movies on old school discs like DVD and BlueRay... seriously the collection of records include some classics like Frank Sinatra and even current hits like Bruno Mars. The business is priced fair, you have your collection pieces that range from $50 to $100 but you also have clearence crates for $1. The location also offers a loyalty card as well using old fashion punch cards. The store staff us actually helpful, as you can imagine it is a bit of a specialty type store so the staff know their stock and a large variety of movies. The location looks a bit cheap feom the street and if youre looking for a clean modern location with wifi and coffee this is not for you, this is a classic experience that has that dusty musky experience where you should enjoy digging into the collections and spending some time.

2021-10-16Great place with a friendly accommodating staff. Always a good selection of new and used vinyl. Only complaint is the prices are a little high for vinyl. But if you dig enough, you can find some real gems.

2021-09-30By far the BEST record store on Long Island. This store is like crack. Once you have one hit, youre hooked. Bonus points for the epic staff that work here. Very great environment.
