First Time. Heard some good / alright things about Mr.Chow . Service is great from when you step in to when you are ready to leave. Ambience is very cool/ neat . We ordered a variety of their dishes all were good but it wouldn’t be something I would tell and run to everyone saying they need to try this! We did get the duck and it was pricey but that was probably the best dish . They come table side and cut it up for you to serve with a side. Overall all nice experience but food can be a little better for what you pay.
Went for my BDAY on a Monday was not crowded my guests and I were greeted very well was given the option to sit a the bar or at our table until the rest of the party arrives which I thought was nice service was great food was great looking for a Experience great place
I would definitely never come back here. From the over pushy waiter to the bad fish, this place does not live up to its hype.We came here for my sisters birthday and in no way, shape or form was this dinner worth $275. I put it up there with one of the worst 5 dinners Ive ever had.My sisters and I each got sick after we ate here. We ordered the lobster, fish, pork, beans, and vegetable rice.Im so sorry that I brought my sister here for her birthday and she ended up getting ill afterwards. Our waiter was very unpleasant and pushed almost everything on the menu on us. I wouldnt come back here based on the service alone, but the food was awful as well. Also from 6:00 to 8:00 PM we were 1 of 4 tables in the entire restaurant. This place was completely empty - and I now know why.
Summary: the ambience and service are nice (altho there were too many waiters for us ) but I feel ripped off by the restaurant with sub par food with horrendously small serving.I see some positive reviews with words like amazing, outstanding or awesome. I do not know what they ordered. Fyi I dont make that much money. I saw the menu and I got nervous lol I ordered squid ink noodle. My hubby ordered pork with chili sauce. After the waitress left my hubby told me there was $40 min per person in fine print. I couldnt believe it. I ordered a dessert later just to get that minimum but the bill came out less than $80 before tax and they didnt apply that rule so I dont know how that works. Anyway. Mine was very interesting. Very inky. It was fun dish. The biggest bummer was my hubbys. He sees his and asks is that my dinner? Neither of us could believe how small it was for $38 dish.... It was like appetizer with a few slices of pork. We assumed the cost of the ingredient was maybe $3 or slightly more. horrible presentation too. It really looked like a chow hall food. Ive attached a picture for you and that spoon is a regular dinner spoon. We probably had 1/3 of it by the time i took that picture. Taste? It was ok. Nothing special at all. NYC is famous for overpriced restaurant but this is almost illegal lol then people there all of a sudden looked so pretentious.
My wife and I treated our daughter and her husband to dinner the other night. We have been to Mr. Chow restaurants in NYC and LA many times and are very familiarwith the menu. We planned on a long and enjoyable evening. However our waiter hadother plans. We were rushed through the entire meal. We asked twice if he could slow theThe pace down a bit but we were ignored . The outside dining wasfull but not packed and when we left there were even more empty seats.Typical Mr Chow food. Unacceptable service.
Mediocre food with terrible service. Plenty of other decent choices around the neighborhood with a service crew of right manner and knowledge of how to run a proper restaurant.Within a short period of visit window, we received stained plate, misguiding description of dishes, impolite manager, and WRONG! check with an additional wine that we did not order. I do believe the manager in the restaurant deserves a reconsideration of his qualification.
Heard great things about this place but it seems they need a few weeks to get back to the quality they had before. The duck was dry, beans poorly seasoned, crispy beef was meh. The shrimp rice was good. Service was good and they are doing their best serving outside which is not easy. Would recommend waiting until they can serve inside again to visit them.
Im never one to leave a poor review, this was my all time favorite place after Id ate at the Miami Mr. Chow. Since then Ive been trying to make it back to Mr. Chow anywhere possible to order the peaking duck! I even flew my son and his girlfriend to Miami with reservations to try the peaking duck. My friends had to listen to be talk about it so long and finally we have the opportunity to get there again! We called ahead and made reservations and even asked if we needed to preorder the peaking duck since it has a long preparation time. They said no and we excitedly all met at Mr. Chows! When we made our order they informed us they only had a limited amount of the peaking duck. So we had to choose something else.We would have gone somewhere else if that was going to be the case. So after all the waiting and arrangements to get the particular dish and even calling ahead to reserve it, we were very disappointed.
What a disappointment. Overpriced and not special.Appetizer, a house specialty, Mr Chows noodles, cooked well, but not special., like a nice pasta with meat sauce. Main course, also a house specialty, With Three was absolutely tasteless, literally. Overpriced sparkling water..why? Staff were nice.
Salt and pepper prawns were overall good, but peeling the shells was not necessarily worth the effort. Chicken satay, a specialty of the house, is a chicken finger with a sad peanut sauce. The Chow Noodles were very bland and the pork ragu was blah... The fiery filet mignon, was sweet, spicy and crunchy. A nice dish, but not worth the 40 dollars. Overall, this place is a big fail for me.
The Scent of unthinkably fresh florals greets you as you enter. A well-kept maitre d escorts you to your table, draped in wrinkle-less white linen. The restaurants interior has existential properties. But there is only one thing that is better than Mr. Chows glamorous scene, and its Peanut Nut Sauce. This is the sauce youll find drizzled atop your Chicken Satay, which is a non-negotiable order selection. Whilst ordering, said satay ask for extra sauce. Im confident you will thank me post-peanut sauce. Other notable standouts in Mr. Chows, Elegant Chinese choices include, but are not limited to, Fried Rice, Green Prawns, Gamblers Duck.
This is the worst restaurant experience in NYC for me yet. I love this city and its food. However, this was the absolute worst. It was supposed to be a special occasion- two birthdays. It ended up to be an overpriced affair and we couldnt wait to get out.Food was bland and the dishes were so minuscule that we needed to stop at a sandwich place on our way back home. The service was underwhelming, the waiters were less than knowledgeable and the sommelier didnt even offer a taste of the wine weve ordered.I do get that the rents are sky high in the city but the bill was highway robbery.Leave all your hope at the door if you do dare to come to this place. I for one will order take out next time.
I hadnt been in many years and was wondering why I took so long! Nice ambience spacious and fun. Great waiter who guided us through menu. We had Gamblers duck and Ma mignon after pot stickers and ink squid noodles. Only minor complaint was we felt a little rushed. Wont be years before I go back again!
Appetizers so much better than overpriced entrees. Some of the entrees didnt seem so distinct from one another and I found their size surprising relative to price. That said, spare ribs were excellent and pot stickers even better. High end, french-style service, good cocktails and great wine. Overall, quite enjoyable
I ordered the chicken sate and sautéed rice on Postmates And was charged about $60. I asked if the chicken sate comes with peanut butter sauce and was assured that it would come with it but it wasn’t. The order came with 1 small piece of fried chicken and plain white rice with sporadic green beans. The taste is mediocre and to charge $11 for a small piece of fried chicken is outrageous. Never again!
First time at Mr.Chow and I must say I had high expectations but was extremely disappointed. Ambiance is cool but, the food was just okay- definitely not worth the price. Additionally, to close out our “just an okay dinner” the restaurant brought back someone else’s credit card to the table. When bringing it to the waiters attention there was no sense of urgency to find where my card went. After 5 minutes went by I had to get up and walk to the front of the restaurant to figure out what was going on. Then when my card was finally brought to me, I realized my card had been charged Two times the amount it was supposed to be charged. After speaking with the assistant manager on duty her priority was explaining the long “here’s how it happened story”. She eventually said the words sorry but it was not even close to genuine. With cc fraud being so common these days, this is not something that anyone should take lightly. I myself could have left with the wrong card they brought back! Honestly you’d think a place like this should really have it together better. Needless to say, I won’t be going back. There are so many better restaurants in NYC that actually don’t lose your card.
The food was very good... except for the short ribs. They tasted like they were reheated. Otherwise, everything else was fantastic. I was most impressed with the staff. Very attentive. I never had an empty glass or a dirty dish in front of me. Excellent service and wonderful food. Would recommend.
We ordered 6 first course dishes among three of us and it was more than sufficient. The exotic mushrooms side was fantastic, I really liked the shrimp dumpings and the 5 spice tofu was good too. We went really late (think post 10 PM) and the host was super friendly and courteous. The ambiance is quite nice as well, making it for a great late-night dining option.
Food is bad. Litterally a step above street car food. Was hoping for much more for all the hype. Dumplings were good, but entrees were poorly performed. “Crispy beef” had been under a heat lamp for 10-15 minutes. Lots of good atmosphere and attentive staff but kitchen needs some help.
The service is actually great, so I feel bad leaving a 1 star review. The food ranges from downright bad to mediocre. Pairing food that is actually worse than your favorite local Chinese restaurant with a $475 bill for two people (we drank quite a bit) is what earns them the 1 star. Its too bad they dont care to modernize their menu or hire someone to come in and fix it. Their entire vibe and service is great, but its a waste of money.
Absolutely the best customer service in all of New York City. Located in a quiet but central area—the menu is packed full of amazing choices. Don’t expect to get stuffed here—but do expect to ha e your taste buds played with in the most amazing ways. I would come again and agin based on the customer service. Highly recommend. And people who complain about the price are being petty. Don’t come expecting a deal on food. The experience is well worth the price.
Ambience = greatService = greatFood = nothing specialOrdered the Fiery Beef ($49.50), Sea Bass ($51.50), and Shrimp Rice ($19).The entree portions (advertised as family style) were more like paltry appetizer portions, the fish was fresh and tender, but tasteless. The beef was the farthest thing from spicy and even the hot sauce didnt help (filet mignon was a waste in this dish). The apple fizz was simply an apple martini from 1997. We were in and out within an hour. Even the good service could not redeem this experience. Not a good value at all even for elite class dining. Dont believe the hype.P.S. the only suggested tip percentage listed on your check is 20% (not offering a range from 15% to 20% just comes off as greedy).
We had a reservation and our whole party was there upon arriving to the restaurant. We had to wait 30 minutes for our table with no explanation. Once we sat down, we were immediately bombarded by staff demanding drink orders even though we hadnt gotten menus yet. Then, our server came over to explain the menu and confused everyone at the table with how we were supposed to order. It was an overly complicated, totally overpriced experience. The food was good, but not $100 a person good. There are too many other delicious restaurants with amazing service in this city. Mr Chows is overrated and not worth the trouble.
Mr. Chows is PF Chang’s on steroids. It was edible and enjoyable, but for the price point, a hefty serving of wholly inexcusable mediocrity. The noodles and dumplings were great, as was the tender steak. But it was nothing that made me go, ‘wow, I need to come back’. Would I go back? If someone offers to pay for me, absolutely. If someone suggested it, I would push back. Would I recommend? Great spot if you want to power play someone who hasn’t experienced a wide variety of Asian food and is easily impressed with bombastic gestures. Overall, I can’t complain, it was good. Just not THAT good.
We went there an evening for Summer 2016 Restaurant Week ($42 - 3 Courses offer). The service was excellent, the ambiance great (even though it was a little loud) and the food good. Some plates, such as the Glazed Prawns and the Nine Seasons Prawns, were delicious. Some other, like MR CHOW Noodles, were good but nothing special. My opinion is that you pay mostly for the ambiance and the service. The food is good but overpriced, not justifying a quality that outshines some other good Chinese restaurants in NYC. Still a good deal for Restaurant Week though!
The service in this place is great. That is why I give it two stars. The Chinese food is not even mediocre. I could not believe the bill. $250 for appetizers and the waiter claimed the chef prefers you order entrees when you order drinks and appetizers. Man after tasting the appetizers we wanted to cancel and bail. I felt guilty and stayed. Not good. It was a learning experience. Dont goto a Chinese restaurant in TriBeCa. The space is nice. Gotta pay for that rent somehow. How hard is it though to get a good chef to cook Chinese food so close to Chinatown?
Holy christ I can’t believe this place is still open. First the cocktails were so over iced that I thought i was drinking water instead of an Old Fashion. The starters were bland, unseasoned and insulting to the normally exciting Chinese Cuisine. However, the real joke was the main course and sides. The most over cooked lobster I have ever had the misfortune of eating. It was actually difficult to tell the difference between the shell and the meat! All this was then coated with a thick cold tasteless sauce. It looked like something your dog would throw up. Not to mention the fact that there were only about 6 bites or lobster on the 52 dollar entree. The sides we ordered were mushrooms and cucumber salad. Slimy, tasteless and rubbery. I went home and made my self and second dinner to get the taste out or my mouth and fill my stomach properly.
I went there last week with two girlfriends. The food was fine BUT not only was the server rushing us to leave - he kept coming over and rudely asking if the check was paid, the surrounding tables and chairs were being lifted and put away around us. We got the hint and were uncomfortable so we left but now I just received an alert that a $70 tip was left on my $80 bill! I left 20%! This is a joke! I have lived in NYC for over 10 years and this has never happened to me before. I will be calling and complaining and sharing this feedback anywhere I can. Terrible this would happen I am sure plenty of other people had their tips adjusted as well! People beware!!
The food was arguably one of the worst Chinese I had in the US. The quality of the dishes were not consistent. Some were passable, while the others were entirely below Panda Express quality. The only saving grace was the ambiance (and alcohol to numb your taste buds). Service was good. All in all, not worth the money.
High-end ambiance is all this place has. Honestly. Service is mediocre, but food is just way overpriced and the portions are extremely small. After complaining to one of the managers there that the portions were much smaller than they were a couple of years ago, she told us that they make the portions proportionate to the amount of people at the table. I asked her if then the prices were then reflective of that since we were getting less food, to which she said absolutely not its all the same price.Ok... After the rest of the awful sake we ordered was poured into my glass of water, and being just completely taken aback that a small bowl of white rice with a few veggies in it was supposed to be vegetable fried rice, my girlfriend and I proceeded NOT to order dessert and left immediately after paying the bill.Glorified and overpriced Chinese takeout. If thats your game, theyll seat you immediately!
Food is good but not great, plates are ok proportion, seating is tight. However you are paying for the name for sure. I liked the mixed veggies and the drinks were strong and worth the $16. Their duck was fried not sure if peking duck was available and they make you wrap it yourself.
Left over Panda Express would have been better than the Mr. Chow Restaurant Week Dinner menu I unfortunately experienced last night. Really dissatisfied with my experience. As a local, its unfortunate we cant get any decent Chinese food in Tribeca even at the outrageous price points on display at Mr. Chow.
I am from LA and have been coming to New York for 25 years.I have been to countless restaurants. Some okay, some great, some amazing. But I have never been to a horrible restaurant in NYC where the meal was barely enough to qualify as nourishment. Is the restaurant itself and the atmosphere beautiful? Yes. In that regard, its 5 stars. The food isnt good enough however, for your dog. The crispy shrimp appetizer was so fishy I thought I was going to throw up before we even got started. Mr Chow noodles that they are supposedly famous for? Forget it. When they arrive at your table, you will feel that a bottle of ragu from the grocery store would make them so much better. Horrible. ZERO flavor. And it just kept getting worse. The only tolerable thing I consumed was my bottle of wine. Now the kicker....my bill was $320.00. For three people, two of which did not have any drinks, only water.I could write three more paragraphs on how bad the food at this restaurant is, but Ill spare you the details. Suffice it to say, if you rate a restaurant on their food, this was the absolute worst meal I have ever had in NYC in the 25 years I have been coming here. If you fall victim to going there, enjoy the atmosphere because it is truly beautiful, but eat before you go.
While the service is great I have to say for such a hyped restaurant the food was horrible. Just save your money and go to your local Chinese restaurant 10 times for the price that you will be paying at this place. Even something as standard as shrimp fried rice was beyond bland and rubbery and everything else was just flavorless and weird. Very disappointed, literally went to eat at another restaurant after
From the moment you walk into Mr. Chows in Tribeca, you are fully aware that the dining experience is going to be special. Between the hypnotic and fragrant smell of the fresh orchids by the bar to the incredibly welcoming staff, including the gorgeous hostess with the best shoes and hair and the maitre de who is the epitome of a gentleman, it is an dining experience unlike any other. The food is the most delicious and authentic Chinese food -- being an Asian American, I can say this with the utmost confidence -- I have ever tasted. Each dish is punctuated with an intensity of flavor and is consistently delicious, regardless of how busy it is. Though I have been to both locations, Tribeca has my heart because of its staff and because of its stunning ambience.
Mr. Chow for Restaurant Week 2013 was a delight. Impeccable service, scrumptious dumplings and great atmosphere all made for a winning dining experience. Its great if youre a foodie as there is always something new and great if youre a tourist so you can say youve been to one of the icons of New York dining.
How this place is in business, I have no idea. The food is mediocre (at best), the menu is confusing, and its grossly overpriced. I have no clue why anyone would come here unless they didnt know what was ahead of them (like my group of people). It is literally subpar Chinese takeout in a fancy environment.Only gave a second star for the ambiance and the seevice.
Whats that place in the mall? Panda Express place? PF Chang? Just go there and save yourself $100...better yet, find an authentic place. What kind of place makes each person spend a minimum on their meal? Who eats $40 worth of Chinese food? This place is for people who just want to say theyve eaten there and have the money to waste.
The ambience and service at Mr. Chow are what make the place. The waiters are formal and ours was particularly helpful with the menu. The food was good, but didnt necessarily outshine many restaurants in Chinatown (a 5-10 minute walk away). Mr. Chow stands out because its a Chinese restaurant you can take people to and leave a positive impression.
Went with groups on a few occasions. We used to eat on 57th from back in the eighties. Caught waiters trying to pad the check and brought us stuff we had not ordered while that previously orders of same had been sitting uneaten. Scam , also this food is full of dairy and sugar.
A few weeks ago, I went here with some friends from other places. I have to say, I am very surprised! All the dishes we ordered are amazing, and with the fresh, warm pita signature hummus is the best I have! I order these veal and mutton burger patties. I dont remember the name of the dish, but they are all very good. I also ordered hot cider (we have one with brandy, one without) and they are SOOOO delicious. Our service lady gave us some good advice on what the order was and was very concerned about our table (although this was a relatively slow night). Will definitely go back soon.

2022-07-04Seeing friends after 20 years and catching up makes you forget to take food photos 😂Very fancy Chinese fine dining. Been to Mr Chow in Los Angeles a few years back. The best was an amazingly crispy gambler duck with pancakes. Dont miss out on that experience.Service was exceptional. Rose wine superb. All recommendations. We sat outside on a lovely summer night. Inside sitting is very elegant too.Nice experience.

2022-05-06I’ll let the truth explain itself: they charged us $27 for steamed veg and $13 for rice (photo below). The story went like this - we ordered prefix, and then the food was the worst! The scallion was wrongly cut and the pancake for duck was over cooked and thick and then we ate crab shell from the crab meat + egg white! We were mad, the food was bad, and we complained and did not want a new one. The restaurant said they would cancel the crab only, and then instead they charged us $27 for vege and $13 for rice?!

2021-11-19The food here is amazing! And the service is great. We were able to substitute some meats for vegan alternatives. The staff was very accommodating.

2022-07-09Very high end restaurant. Food is bland , absolutely no for vegans as they have fish sauce in mostly everything. Went with friends ,dining ambience is good, waiter did poor job in explaining and suggesting from menu. For us friends it was a highly priced mistake .

2022-05-29The downtown location of the uptown classic. Still solid. If you have to ask the price this place is not for you. Nice outdoor seating.

2021-07-25Its not chinese food if theres no flavor... the food here was seriously rough on all accounts. the only redeemable dishes were the potstickers which were passable and the crispy beef. the lettuce wraps were so dry and flavorless. luckily, we had hot sauce we could dose all the food with. the scallion pancakes were like greasy donuts with no scallions. the fiery chicken was okay- had some flavor. the duck was literally skin and bones... there was basically no meat. the drinks were probably the best thing all night, but at the price point, it was all ridiculously overpriced for what it is. i would not recommend coming here and will never be found her again.

2022-03-25I’ve been here twice a few years apart. Once I remember it being decent, and the second time everything was bland. I didn’t even bring my leftovers home and there were a lot of leftovers bc I didn’t want to eat anything. Chicken satay had a rubbery texture and I was really looking forward to the squab and it was bland.

2021-06-21The waiters should actually do a better job in explaining the menu... Food was flavorful and in good portions.

2022-06-30Mr. Chow needs to step up his game.Duck is dry, chicken dishes are rubbery. Everything is bland… I guess they give you the hot sauce for a reason.

2019-10-02The service is exceptional. The scene and vibe is exciting. The food was OK. For me it was worth it because I was with a good friend. I really wanted the duck which starts at a minimum of 3 for $85 pp. I would go back.
