One of my favorite restaurants in the area. I have not been disappointed and they are one of the few places since the pandemic open all day from breakfast to dinner. They have an excellent homemade cheesecake, its not fancy but is just done right. Done right sums up their food well from a burger and fries to breakfast.
I gave this restaurant a 4 because overall is was a pleasant place to sit down and have brunch. We celebrated part of our anniversary day at Ms. Fairfax and the outdoor patio seating was really nice. We did have a barking dog and another off leash dog jump on my wife which was not a big deal but caution if you are not a fan of dogs. We ordered the brisket brunch special and the smoked trout salad. Both were ok. The way ordering works is you choose your table and order at the counter. There is a server that brings you water in a glass bottle and utensils. I could imagine it it were a busy day the ordering process could get crazy. Im hoping to try the curious cola next time and hope to be blown away with another dish.
I have always had friendly service here and the ingredients are fresh. Although the menu items sound typical, the preparation is gourmet or above par. The breakfast sandwich is our family favorite; we also like the burger, tacos, and all of the salads. Although the restaurant no longer identifies as a cafe, they have delicious coffee and lattes to enjoy with your meal. The little bar looks very attractive but Ive never had a cocktail there, but many customers order them.
We ended up walking out.My friends and I made a reservation to come here and eat. The vibe at the place is nice, and the drinks came out fast. We ordered at about 12:15, and it was 1:00, and we still hadnt gotten our food. The server never came back to explain what was going on, and she didnt even fill up our waters. We finally asked someone what was going on, and the bartender, who may be the owner, told us that the tickets got messed up and the food was just being made. We ended up leaving, and the table next to us did the same. I am giving three stars and not one because the owner did give us free drinks, and the latte was fabulous. Also, the food that one table was eating looked good.I know that times are tough for restaurants, and I wish the owner the best, but I have to keep it 100% with my reviews. I was a server for 10 years, and one thing that is highly important is to communicate with your guests. Even if things are going wrong, offer them what you can for free, apologize, and tell them the truth. Ignoring your guest will only make them feel upset and frustrated. Next time you have an issue, communicate, and you will keep your guest happy.
A cute little spot I liiivePlease read the rules on the backside of the menu so you know how to come correct 🔖Idk if y’all can see it but these fries are SEASONED hunnii and I don’t mean with salt and rosemary tg! The brioche bun on the impossible burger was softer than a plush pillow; the burger was overall delicious. The breakfast sandwich was also very good! I like my bacon a bit more crispy but cooked bacon is a spectrum and I won’t complain. They have non-dairy milk options (oat, almond) and delicious cranberry juice. Service was great as well, can’t complain ab anything!
I went for the first time last week and ordered the brisket Hash and was so disappointed it had nothing good about it I moved the 3 eggs that they had on top and all what I found is roasted potato no brisket or very little piece of meat i asked the guy who was there a waiter or manager and he mentioned that’s how they serve it but he will bring more meat for me I waited 15 more minutes and he showed up with an extra plate with meat but guess what it is a sautéed chicken tasted so bad and salty at the end I left returned it and I don’t think I will go back againThis restaurant has nice atmosphere but it is over rated one more thing you have yo wait on the ligne to order and then go back wait again to pay It doesn’t seem well organized
We sat down at 8:45pm and they said we needed to order before 9pm because the kitchen closes. We ordered by 8:50pm. While waiting for our food we ordered two drinks totaling $6. Waiter comes back to us at 9:30 and says Im so sorry but your order didnt go through and the kitchen is closed, but no worries the drinks are on us.The drinks only totalled $6 and you wasted 45 minutes of our time. What they should have done is offer us a voucher to come back use or something. Very bad customer service.
Ms fairfax is the perfect hidden gem for brunch lunch and dinner, whatever your fancy. Ive been a few times now and never a disappointment. The wait staff are so kind and helpful. The atmosphere is inviting and excepting of everyone. The food is reliably great well prepared and so Soo good.
We came to Ms. Fairfax after learning that our favorite bartender from New Paltz was working here as a manager. We were so happy to see him and Stella, who was behind the bar mixing wonderful craft cocktails. The service was impeccable and the food was extremely flavorful. We will definitely be back and will recommend Ms. Fairfax to others. We came just before closing - and they were more than accommodating. ✌️
Went here with my boyfriend one friday night. I ordered the salmon and he ordered the steak. Both meals were absolutely delicious! I also ordered a cocktail-I think it was some sort of lavender drink, and it was amazing. Service was prompt and friendly and the prices were not that bad given the quality of the food. Would definitely come back here again.
Delicious, fresh food, great atmosphere. There is a menu for brunch, lunch, and dinner. They serve fantastic crepes as well creative salads and entrees. The desserts are delicious. Very charming, located right across the street from Washingtons headquarters on restaurant row, Liberty St., Newburgh. Highly recommended 🌟
Small bohemian cafe on a quaint side street in Newburgh. The egg baguette sandwich was yummy with crispy bacon and a nice spicy aioli. The strawberry shortcake French toast should not overlooked. Any French toast made with challah will be fantastic like this one. Friendly staff here.
Honestly I really wanted to like this place. It has great curb appeal and a great ambiance inside, but the overall experience was a let down. The Fairfax burger had a gas/propane taste to it. Im not sure if its just my own taste buds or what but it was a bit off. The water tasted funny. I ordered a soda and it tasted like a weird mix of grape juice and flat diet Coke syrup... I took a few sips and tried to push through but it was worse than I could stomach. My wife ordered the jambon beurre, a side salad, and a dirty chai. The salad was way too vinegary, the sandwich was small and wasnt served hot nor cold, it was a weird temperature for a sandwich.. She also ordered the sauce on the side but it came on the sandwich as well as the side (the service overall was very underwhelming... Not very personable, waitress did not say hello or even smile). And the dirty chai was served luke warm at best.If it wasnt so expensive I could have probably overlooked some of these issues but when you pay $40 for a ham sandwich, a burger, and a cup of tea, certain expectations should be met.
I had dinner on the back patio on a Sunday night and loved it. The picnic tables, string lights, and ivy colored walls are so pretty. Me and my husband shared the mussels, the kale caesar, and the fried chicken sandwich and everything was delicious. The fries that come with the mussels and sandwich were some of the best I’ve ever had!
No just no. This place is just a big no. I came here to brunch with my 5 year daughter. With that said, I bought her pancakes added the bananas added a scrambled egg side and sausage side. The eggs were good the sausage she couldn’t eat it was spicy and had a lot of herbs in it. What annoyed me was that the waiter didn’t warn me that the bananas were not ready to be eaten and were still green. So I paid extra for bananas to toss out. It also annoyed me that The waiter didn’t warn me about the sausage being spicy and herby. Hello little person at the table she’s a great eater but still a child. Then I ordered for myself the berry yogurt. Again nasty. It was a giant mess. In a big enough bowl was a glop of Greek yogurt with strawberries, blueberry’s and a light drizzle of honey. That was it. When the menu said it was supposed to have the fruit plus granola, walnuts and jam. I told the waiter and all she did was bring me a little granola. Honestly, I wanted the crunch factor and didn’t get any of that. After the lack of crunch I just couldn’t eat it. I didn’t even want to ask for more honey because I was so annoyed.I wanted to love this place but I just can’t and will not return for any other meals. If you want to over pay for food that just is amazingly presented but not even that great go here.
Very polite staff, great customers service when placing orders via phone. Carrot - ginger soup well priced for the portion received. Fresh ingredients have an earthly aroma once walking into the establishment. Offers an array of cocktails and beers, and shows times for happy hour between 4p-7p. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Must try!
Seems like Mrs. Fairfax doesnt really need my five stars but Im chiming in to say we stumbled upon this Brooklyn, LES-vibe place after strolling around to some of Newburghs Open Galleries, intending to have a glass of wine when shazzam, the smell of garlic and instant loveliness of the staff had us checking out the menu and deciding it was early-dinner kismet. I had the Tofu Banh Mi which was out of this world; my friends grilled salmon was heavenly. Wonderfully seasoned, precisely plated and a warm friendly atmosphere. Wish wed ordered fries! PS: theres a full bar and cocktail program.
Proper bistro food with quality basics as well. Moroccan Chicken Sandwich was excellent, great combination of ingredients for a satisfying meal. Husband ordered the pancakes and they were also delicious. He is picky, and they werent too sweet, or too thick, but just right and cooked to perfection. Fries were also perfectly seasoned.
This is a nice place. I would give it a 4.5. Any restaurant that blares music so loud that the person behind the counter can’t hear your order will never earn a 5. The staff was sort of blasé - just order and get out of my sight. Food was generally good. Too many fries.
Lovely place right across from the Washington HQ historic site. Excellent selection of beers and wines for the size of the place.Good out and variety of outdoor seating (10/18/2020, covid) but also some indoor dining and a counter as well.I got the Fairfax burger, perfectly done and not excessively greasy or falling apart like some burgers. She got the Fairfax sale, which came with a very generous portion of grilled chicken.Staff was attentive and friendly, though a bit of a wait for the food, and it came out a little cooler than I would have liked. (But thats to be expected on a busy Saturday night). Will definitely go back the next time were in Newburgh.
Ms. Fairfax always delivers.Had brunch today with the fella. Ordered the Goat Cheese omelette with sauteed onions, mushrooms and bacon, comes with breakfast potatoes. And he ordered the burrrrrito which comes with greens and dressing. So good, so clean, so well cooked and put together. It helps to start your day off right. Even if thats at noon :)
Excellent food with an equally excellent staff. I was impressed by how friendly they were, the outdoor seating in the back patio is lovely (although the weather is getting colder so not many opportunities to enjoy it) but there is indoor seating available and they are good with keeping everything COVID-safe.
Our new favorite spot in Newburgh. We had the grilled cheese, Cuban sandwich, and kale Caesar salad along with the Day Spa and Ginger drink. Everything was delicious. Not just good, but perfect. Were excited to return and try something new. Great spot, friendly service, and good prices.
One of my favorite places to eat and hang in Newburgh. The vibe is always clean and relaxed. The food is always fresh and tasty. I’ve been for brunch, lunch & dinner and there is enough variety yet a condensed enough selection to ensure quality. The servers and bartenders are always nice. The drinks are also very worth trying !
Went around 540pm. We ordered wings, came out great. (Its hard to mess up wings) the beer selection is already, nothing special. They were out of the local Newburgh Brewery beer, which is right down the road from them so I dont know how they run out of that. The outdoor patio could use some work cleaning up. Felt like I was in someones backyard...really didnt feel to welcoming. Some of the staff didnt seem to friendly.Other than that I would recommend this place just sit inside.
I had a great beet salad just last night, also onion soup, with mineral water. The quality, i thought was very good!Im always concerned what i put in my body,I understand, You are what you eat.Its been, my first time eating in Ms. Fairfax.I have been sceptical at first, with any new place I eat at.
Hectic and disorganized. I walked in and no one welcomed me to the establishment. With no signs and a group sitting down at a table with no waiter, I assumed I could seat myself. I settled in and waited to be attended to only to have a surprised waiter tell me that the table was taken. I asked how long the wait would be for 2 and was told 30-45 minutes. No sign, no podium, nothing to suggest a place where I might tell an employee that I would like to wait for a table. Would not spend a cent of my money here after such poor service.
We arrived in Newburgh late on a Friday for a Saturday event and decided to head out for a bite to eat. After a quick Google search, Miss Fairfax seemed like an ideal spot for some good and a drink as they were open until 1 and had some solid reviews. Both myself and the two others I was traveling with work/worked in hospitality, so we make a habit of ensuring the kitchen is open if we arrive later in the evening. We walked in at 11:45pm, more than an hour before close, and casually asked if the kitchen was still open. The woman behind the bar rudely replied, with an attitude and level of annoyance as-if we asked to borrow her car, “does it look opened...it’s almost 12?” I explained we didn’t know, it was our first time here, and the kitchen lights were still on more than an hour before closing time but we figured we’d ask. She corrected us and told us the lights were off and the kitchen was definitely closed. Honestly, any establishment with this woman greeting and serving guests has major gaps to address.Note, the diner five minutes away was open late, friendly/welcoming, and perfectly suitable for a late night meal!
I called to place an order to pick up, and a woman put me on hold and after 10 minutes didnt come back to the phone. I could hear her talking to others in the background. I had to hang up to help her remember that a customer was on hold. When I called back, I reminded her that she didnt return to the call. She was dismissive and unapologetic. She rudely began to ask me what I wanted to order. Only when I reiterated that I had been on hold, she quickly apologized with no sympathy for making a customer wait, and asked again for my order. After her attitude, I only ordered at this place, because of its proximity to my job. The food wasnt bad, but the customer service was poor!
$5 prosecco is dry, drinkable... Good value and a good way to start Sunday brunch. Funky decor and music giving a retro 70s vibe. Got the avacado toast. Side salad was excellent with arugula, cilantro and perfectly acidic. Toast was flavorful and over easy eggs were perfect, adding habanero hot sauce tied it together. Nutella and banana crepes were a little bland could have used more Nutella and riper or Cooked / flambeed bananas and is the reason for 4 and not 5 star. Overall a great experience.
Absolutly the worst service with a smile. completely mismanaged. i might have something better to say if i wasnt ignored for an hour before i was told my order was lost. but they didnt care as long as i paid for my drinks before i left. also the water tasted like it was from a pool or maybe a gutter. i was excited to eat at this establishment but unfurtunately was never givin the opportunity and when i expressed my dissapointment it fell on deaf ears.
Clean, well lit seating. Ample degree of variety in menu choice. Friendly, attentive, helpful staff. Overall,a very pleasant place to dine. Wouldve received five stars HAD they been able to accommodate my specialty request. Despite my earlier claim of a well varied menu I couldnt find a dish I wanted. I asked my waitperson to see IF the chef could be persuaded to prepare a burger, afterall it WAS 2:00 in the afternoon. My cheerful waiter promptly told me shed inquire about this on my behalf. Whereupon she moved toward the kitchen with alacrity. A few scant moments later she returned. Her dejected expression informed me before the words had left her mouth. She told me they wouldnt be able to prepare my request as they were ill-equipped to do so at that time. But as Ive stated thats not really a critique of this charming little cafe with its al fresco dining options. More a case of my pickiness. If you should happen to find yourself in Newburgh and on Liberty St. DO pop in. It would behoove ones self to do so.
Charming café with an excellent brunch menu, including a full array of sweet and savory crepes, bloody marys and mimosas. We had the challah French toast with strawberry rhubarb compote and honey-butter, a buckwheat crepe with tomato and goat cheese, and the baked eggs with tomatillos, all of which were excellent. Highly recommended, and a good spot for anyone looking for a breakfast spot while driving up the NY thruway.
You know how when your dog dies and you swear youll never love another again, but then you do? Well, Ms Fairfax has replaced Newburghs short lived but beloved Martha cafe. Ms Fairfax has whisked her way into my heart, and stomach. Chef Maggie creates a superb pulled duck bbq sandwich with fresh greens to match, and the triple grilled cheese is equally perfect. If cholesterols not your thing, try the beet and goat cheese or the middle eastern platter. Yes, Ive had it all...and I am not ashamed to admit it! Lots of nice wine and beer selections. AND a curated candy section with Charleston Chews for sale. Done and Done. (thanks, Philippe)
Its hard to create an atmosphere that is always warm and welcoming ~ Ms. Fairfax does just that. Whether Im sitting at the bar elbow to elbow with friends enjoying a snack and a beer or at a table tucking in to a warm soup and perfect grilled cheese. I always feel at home.
Just across the street from Washingtons Headquarters State Historic Site, this charmed spot references the past but is in the moment, as in a right-now, hip vibe which permeates the place. Food is great, drinks, great, ambience excellent.Do not miss the outdoor courtyard dining space which is evanescent at night. Twinkly lights and a north facing wall adorned with ivy lend a contrasting pastoral feel to the urban vibe.At ten p.m., whats that thump, thump? Come Mr. DJ song pon de replayCome Mr. DJ wont you turn the music up...Well then, get up, ya.
Yo everybody has something negative to say about Newburgh leave that outside the door cuz when you come in here its all about love love for the food love for the atmosphere love for the art and dont forget the cop a crepe this is one restaurant you dont want to bypass right on Liberty Street.

2022-05-08This place has great brunch options. The staff is very friendly and the ambiance is exactly what you want for a quiet meal with friends. As a vegan, I appreciate when the ONE vegan meal is out-of-this-world delicious. Def stop by if youre skeptical.

2022-07-05I would have given this a 4.5 but that wasn’t an option. The service and servers were excellent so I’m rounding up. Very generous salad portion and tasty cocktails and beers. Enjoyed the ahi tuna but the medium rare steak frites was medium but still very tasty, the sauce was a nice embellishment and the fries were nice and crispy. Lots of vegetarian options, too. Will def go back next time we’re in the area.

2022-07-14On the way to a cabin in western Mass. from DC and stopped here for dinner. With kids. With dogs. Outdoor seating. Portions were generous. Solid yummy. The duck rilletes were the best. Couscous bowl, grilled cheese, salmon and tuna.

2022-04-14Excellent all round! This was my first visit today for lunch and I had the tofu banh mi on gluten free bread and salad. Guys, this place knows how to make tofu! It was crisp on the outside and soft in the middle, with pickled jalapeños, veggies and super tasty sauce, stuffed into toasted pillowy g-f bread. The salad dressing was perfectly balanced. I found Ms. Fairfax when in Newburgh on an errand, and I am so happy this place came up first on a Google search for “gluten free vegetarian lunch “! Their menu is varied and has lots of options for all diets. I didn’t have time to sit and eat, but wished I did because the atmosphere was so nice, and the staff so friendly! I will definitely be back!

2021-10-19Extremely tasty food. My friends who just moved into the area recommended this place. The pulled pork tacos were so creamy and tasty, I honestly wanted to rewind time and eat them all over again. They also double-tortillad my tacos, which I am so grateful for.I had the Duck Rillette Crostini and the pulled pork tacos. My fiancé had The Leatherman Burger and we shared the garlic bread. The fries were well-seasoned and I kept stealing a few off his plate. The service was okay. But I understand how the service industry has been impacted with COVID. Its important to pack some extra patience with the folx giving us these culinary experiences.

2021-10-16Super friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Indoor and outdoor dining available. Our food was fantastic - I had the goat cheese omelet and my wife had the breakfast sandwich. Both were delicious and satisfying. Definitely will be dining there again!

2021-08-31The food was amazing. I got the tofu bahn mi and it exceeded my expectations. The outdoor patio was so cute. It would be nice not to have to order at the bar but it’s understandable- that’s their vibe. I would definitely come back.

2021-12-13I just want to tell everyone how inviting and welcoming this place is! I came her Saturday night for a date, and the staff was incredible and friendly! They were so accommodating and kind! The drinks were unique and delicious! I had the steak Frites! It was incredible! My companion had the duck rillettes crostini! It was delicious! I’m not usually a duck person but the flavor was robust and incredible! The wine was excellent! I just can’t say enough about the entire experience! Such an intimate atmosphere! Such amazing host! Great seating! Just awesome!
