Murphy’s Law is a hidden gem in the UES. It’s the epitome of an amazing Irish bar. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting. It’s just an amazing nice vibe. The bartenders are amazing. Awesome people. And food is really good! I’ve lived in NYC for only 8 months but this is my favorite spot in the UES. Highly recommend
A great local pub serving the usual bar fare but exceeds expectations with their service. Ryan, John, Matt, Denise, and Juan are always welcoming and quick with the drinks. A great place to catch the game or to catch up with your mates!
This unassuming place is a gift to the upper East side. The weekend Staff is on point. The bartender on Satirday got slowly packed by our entire group and delivered food and drinks without writing a thing down. Oh, and that was to us in the outside seating area. We had wings, Nachos, Mac and cheese, I saw some burgers happen. All good. Wasnt impressed with the look of the fish and chips but didnt hear any reports that anything was not good. For that stuffy area, this place is a gift.

When you walk in, it feels like home. Welcomed with a warm greetings. I ordered a beer but it was past 7pm so I didnt get the happy hour price :/. I ordered their juicy burger that was well cooked and had a nice flavor. I will give it a 4 out of 5. Bartender was really friendly and attentive. Definitely will be back 🍔🍺
I have eaten more burgers in 59 years on this planet than just about anyone, and the no-frills Murphy Burger I just had for lunch was one of the best I have ever had. Perfect. Just perfect.
Classic pub environment. Good bar service. Excellent table service. Classic American portions of delicious faire. Try the sauteed mushroom side on the Murphy 9-oz burger. Wow! The sauteed onions aint bad either 😁.Establishment is Highly recommended.
Great place! Ive been coming here for a few years, and its always a good time. They have plenty of TVs, so you can catch any game thats on. Prices are fair, and all of the bartenders are friendly and attentive; they go out of their way to make every customer feel at home.
Portions are tiny and the taste is not %100 there.
Pretty good beer selection. The menu has bar food and the bar food is of bar food quality! If youre going for drinks and bar food, this is great! But no reason to expect gourmet here. Well be back!
Our bartender, originally from Ireland, was a sweetheart. She paid attention to us, so we didnt sit without beer! Locals come in and that makes the atmosphere all the better. The food was ok, typical bar food. We had potato skins, onion rings and fish & chips.

Such a great place with the best service you can have from the waiters to the bar tender and even the owner himself. Food is great, especially the Calamary and Murphys burger is a must go for.
I give high marks to any place that has Guinness on draft. I was there for a late lunch around 2pm, so Im guessing the heavier lunch crowd was over. Had a great burgers and the fries were nice and hot. You also get a 10% discount if you have an HSS guest card.
This is a long-standing staple of the neighborhood. Great selection of beers on tap and in bottles. Good comfort food. We go here regularly. The red ale is one of our favorites.

Ryan is the most obnoxious bartender we have ever met, we were sitting at the bar and watching him interact with customers, suffice to say we will not be coming back to this establishment again. He literally asked customers to tip him throughout the night. Now, I understand, there are some people that don’t tip and there’s a special place for them in hell, but Ryan spent the entire night basically shaking down each customer for a tip. Most unethical bartender I have ever seen, I can’t believe the owners have him working the bar.Never again, plenty of better spots in the neighborhood that don’t have bartenders like Ryan working the bar.
Awesome rueben. Excellent service and Matt made us feel very welcome. Have been here several times while family recuperated from surgery at the nearby hospitals. An easy walk from HSS and Cornell/NY Presbyterian

Great pub. Cheers. Bar appetizers are great. They have meals and specials too if your having dinner with your beer. They have a large beer selection and great seasonal drinks.

3.5 Stars.Murphys is great for after-work happy hours, and the management is incredibly hospitable with planning for larger parties. The beer menu has a variety of Irish offerings (and served by legitimate Irish staff). The food is typical pub-fare if you need a snack to go along with your drinks -- typically, the appetizer combo platter is the way to go for a party of 3-4 people. Would be a great place to watch a soccer game or golf...other sports, not as much. Due to its prime location next to the hospital, Murphys offers a 10% discount for NYP employees, which is always enticing.
The fish and chips are good and they have Guinness on tap. Ask for Cole slaw which oddly isnt automatic but is not an extra charge. A little noisy and the happy hour rules are wierd. Still a good value for Manhattan, the service is ok and the fish tasty
...after numerous visits since my last post, have to change my review; no issues any more, good service, fine bar menu, favorite sports events on the screens, and every so often on Tuesdays, live Irish troubadour. Recommend!
$13 Nachos - came out cold, half covered in cheese and some partially diced onions on top. It appears they were just microwaved, next time I can just toss those in my microwave at home for 1/10th of the price$12 Potato skins - also came out cold, was just a potato cut in half sprinkled with cheeseWould not recommend, the only reason this place is in business is due to the proximity to the med campus but the food is atrocious.

This is a lunchtime review. Every time I come here for lunch, the bartender is nice, quick and never lets an empty sit on the bar. Food has always been good. Stop in, you wont regret.

Murphy’s Law is the best! Ryan is a class bartender who takes care of his customers and makes sure that everyone is comfortable. I’ve followed him around the Upper East Side for the last 6 years. A few weeks ago, I was in the pub when he was working and my friend’s jacket was thrown up on, he handled the situation with such composure. He sent the two ‘gentlemen’ home ... probably two ‘gentlemen’ that stumbled in as their last stop. ‘Spice Box’ is sorely mistaken with his review ... I will definitely be in again when Ryan is behind the bar.
Love going to Murphys after a rough day. If youre a nurse, Tuesdays are 50% off drinks and apps for nurses appreciation night! Go see Ryan...most attentive and friendly bartender ever!!
Good spot to go after getting off at the hospital! Their own beer is pretty tasty and one of the reason I go there instead of other places in the same block! The service improved too during the last couple of years!
Nicole was a fantastic bartender, butt! They ran out of my favorite Whiskey! But she was so nice, and conversational that it really didnt matter!! 😁 great experience.
I had such a terrible experience at this restaurant. The hostess took my take out order and I specified my food allergies, however, she brought me an entirely pork dish, the food Im allergic to. So clearly never checked the order and just handed the food to me. Upon arriving at work, I opened the box and was totally astonished to see the wrong order. This wasted my time and I had to walk back to the restaurant. I went back and asked her about it and she was very rude and started yelling I dont know, this is chefs mistake and not my mistake. She kept yelling so I asked her if I could speak to the manager. He was a very reasonable and nice guy. My only request to him is to look into his employees, especially the hostess who actually should be the nicest and most polite person rather than rude, ignorant, immature, and stubborn.

Penne a la vodka was mediocre. The atmosphere is great, relaxed and lots of good vibes. The staff is friendly but isn’t particularly attentive.

The only reason to come here is if you work at the hospital and want to grab a quick drink with the coworkers (I am a resident). I.e. the location.Service: the waitresses never know what beers they have on tap. They are a little impatient (You want to pull the table together? cant you guys just sit at two separate tables? -- for a party of 14).Menu... everything is blah. Chicken wings they probably get from Food Emporium across the street. The burgers you can only get well-done. Not good.And finally, prices. Look, if at least it was cheap, Id give it 4 stars. But they price the crappy service and food at the same level as any decent restaurant in the neighbourhood (which, despite the obsolete reputation of being food desert, the UES now has plenty of.Dont come here. Unless you work at the hosp and the location is convenient. By the way, if you hear about 10% discount for hospital employees, this is for food only... not drinks. And only on Fridays between 5 and 7PM.
Decent place to watch football on Sunday. Lots of TVs and not too much competition for what game to watch if you get there before kickoff. 50 cent wings and $15 buckets of Coors, not bad. Their chicken fingers are awful though, stay away.
Simple menu and the burgers were great, the draft beer selections were awesome. A cozy and friendly irish pub where we felt welcome as soon as we entered.
Murphy’s Law is a great pub near the hospital. I often work Sunday - Tuesday and the guy who works those nights is a gentleman. Highly recommend stopping in for a drink!

A HUGE enormous roach looking bug climbed up and was on my lap where I had my napkin, my SIL saw it and we screamed in horror.We were sitting at the very first banquette right by the door.They took 10% off the bill and said it was a water bug, not a roach.I dont see us returning to Murphys Law anytime soon.

The wings here are amazing, I highly recommend trying the banging sauce on them. Plus the wings are very crunchy and meaty I deffidefin recommend.

2022-05-05Came here for happy hour, and brought the newborn to hang out with us outside. There was a large group of ten to our left and a group of three to our right. The ambiance was great for a late afternoon hangout. I ordered a French onion soup and we had an order of fries to go along with our drinks. Service was good, fast and welcoming.

2022-01-16No idea why it took me so long to discover this great pub in the neighbourhood! I love a good, cozy Irish local vibe. Extensive menu. Very affordable drinks, of which my favourite so far is the Apple Ivy Smash. Havent got around to checking out the trivia nights yet but its on my list. 😊

2022-08-05The new and much improved Crispy chicken sandwich is a must !! They changed the bun and and the chicken is perfectly crispy and tasty highly recommended!! Staff is always warm and welcoming will be back soon!!

2020-10-21WHAT. A. PUB! I was worried about venturing back into NYC given the modern day climate but Murphys Law put my mind at ease from the start. Their staff truly took the regulations & social distancing to heart, and they also are very pleasant to deal with. I truly wish this pub nothing but the best during these trying times.BTW get the Reuben Sliders. Best move youll make.

2018-01-10The Hangover Burger at Murphy’s Law. Grilled back bacon and a fried egg over a medium rare burger with Swiss cheese.Great atmosphere and service. The servers are friendly and the bartender is great!Came in for lunch and the service was quick & efficient without sacrificing the quality of attention paid to detail and customer care.Love this place. Will definitely be back

2022-03-28Authentic NYC Irish Pub. Many screens broadcasting, world cup soccer, formula 1 racing, Mets, March Madness and plenty more. Shephard Pie, wings, and other expected pub fare is tasty and filling. Those who complain pricing dont get out much. Great bartenders. Great beer selection.
