Beautiful theater! The theater itself is stunning! The seats are so tightly packed together leaving you with barely any leg room. The show itself was five stars! The story is a story that needed to be told and they told the story so brilliantly. Not a bad seat in the house! All seats are good seats in this theater!
We saw Dear Evan Hansen here. For being such an old building they kept it clean. But people pay a LOT of money to see these productions, and the staff was over all VERY rude! It wouldnt kill them to clean the chairs and carpet!! It was very stuffy in the halls and bathrooms as well. But the musical was amazing!
Saw Dear Evan Hansen. The play was so much better than I had hoped. My only complaint was still being required to wear masks. Small pri e to pay though. Staff was awesome! Drinks were also a bit overpriced but it is what it is when you are a captive audience in New York.
We saw Dear Evan Hansen and the performance was incredible. Josh Strobl (as Evan) gave an amazing performance. Both his range and the strength of his voice are impressive. He was able to convey the deep emotional state of the character. I literally had tears streaming down my face at times. Overall and incredible production in a beautiful theater.
We were sitting almost right at the back of the mezzanine and the view was still great and all the staff were really friendly when welcoming everyone.During intermission though, i overheard one employee say to another what do you think about non-binary people? and not in a nice way, thats not a reflection on the establishment but the staff should be careful of whats talked about in front of patrons.
Show was canceled 25 minutes before the show because the AC is out. It had been out since the night before, but the theater management company didn’t have the respect to tell ticket holders earlier so that we could go to another show. We flew to NYC just for this show. We just bought tickets for tomorrow’s show, willing to forego our tickets for another show, and theater management will not agree to letting ticket holders know earlier in the day tomorrow if the AC is not fixed so this doesn’t happen again. People were in tears. Fire whoever the director of operations is for this theater.
Debatably one of the best theaters in NYC. Being in the heart of time square, its perfect for when taking guests to a show. I came to see Dear Evan Hansen here recently and had a wonderful experience. My seats, although up top and behind a control booth, couldnt have been any better. I got a perfect view of the entire stage and and overall great time. Obviously the show was incredible itself but the intimacy of the theater only added to making me have a memorable time.
Very nice and well kept theatre! Even in the very back I had a good view of the stage, and the sound system is superb! They use live music for when I went to see Dear Evan Hansen and I would love to come back for more shows. The staff is very friendly and the building is easy to navigate.
They dont do rush tickets but if you queue by 6am youre likely to get standing tickets for that days show. They upgraded up to the orchestra at intermission. Dear Evan Hansen is good, but not worth the $300 the box office are selling the remaining tickets for - certainly worth queuing for standing tickets (they are $42).
Saw Dear Evan Hansen here, and the theater is totally awesome. A bit on the smaller side, as far as Broadway Theaters go, but there didnt seem to be a bad seat in the house. I sat in the first row of the mezzanine and dont even think orchestra seats would have been better!
This theatre is amazing. My wife and I saw Dear Evan Hansen last night. We were standing at the back of the theatre which sometimes are cheaper tickets you can get on the day. We actually didnt mind standing for the show! The theatre is stunning and there is a bar down stars with a grand piano which really gives the music box theatre character.
I tried. Having had a 2k a month Broadway habit a few years ago I decided to go back! They changed all of the shows to be more polite aka took the funny out of broadway. Also, I do not mind wearing a mask and all IF its valid. 1. Asking for 2nd ID for Admissions is OK BUT this means (like at the airport) they actually ask you to lower your make to confirm second ID. Broadway is lacking covid since here as they do not require your mask to be lowered. Also, in the show the woman in our section spoke to everyone as if they were inn 1st grade plus had an obvious comorbidity. If you are going to lecture me about my health please be sure to maintain your own health. Maybe the show will understand that this looks out of place and correct the issue. BUT I doubt it.
We went and saw Dear Evan Hansen. The play was great. The theatre however, must have had the AC break because everyone was sweltering hot during the performance. We sat on the very last row (Row P seats 2 & 4) of the orchestra section and they were amazing seats! They were also cheaper seats than other sections.
I loved the show it was perfect. I was in the second row and the cast was perfection. I had never seen a Broadway play and after this experience I love it. Music is a passion of mine. When I got home I could only listen to the songs I kept singing them repeatedly. It was a dream come true. I even got a souviner. I wish I couldve met the cast in person. All in all I loved the messages the story tells. Hopefully Ill be on that stage singing Waving Through the Window.
I loved the old world look Saw Dear Evan Hanson. Loved the play. Very touching. Was crying throughout the show, in a good way. It transported me back in time to a world that was exquisite and full of wonder. Loved it. Definitely would recommend it to anyone looking for such an experience. Enjoyed the whole experience.
We paid so much money per ticket for someone’s head to be in my view? The incline for the orchestra seats is definitely not enough and there has probably been enough shows at this theater for this to be known information! It was also quite small for a theater. The show was amazing though. Dear Evan Hansen had songs I still listen to on my own time! Great performance but the theater was not the best.
Not a bad seat in this house. The seats had plenty of room and were comfortable. We sat in the last row of the orchestra right and had a great view of the stage. Bathrooms were small as it is with any theater on broadway. Dear Evan Hansen will probably not be replaced for a while so go see it at this theater as you will not be disappointed. Ushers were very nice and they do have hearing assistance if needed. They do require a Drivers License as a deposit for the device.
Saw Dear Evan Hansen here (amazing show - better than expected). For a Broadway theater it was relatively spacious (slightly more room than other theaters), comfortable seats, beautiful theater, very friendly and helpful staff, and clean bathrooms. Having someone walk around before the show to sell drinks, snacks, and merch rather than only being able to buy from a stand in the lobby was also very nice and convenient.
A small but beautiful theatre. We had amazing seats (3rd row orchestra) to see Dear Evan Hansen. What an unbelievable show. I recommend to everyone. I would definitely see it again. The seating was slightly too close for me. Next time I will pick a farther row. But overall, it was great.
Sweet little theater, excellent performance of Dear Evan Hansen. One note, there are no elevators and very little assistance above the orchestra level for anyone with a handicap, such as a fractured bone in the foot. My wife and another woman we met during the show were significantly impacted by the steep stairs and lack of awareness.
One of my favorite Broadway theaters, the Music Box was opened a century ago, in 1921, especially to stage house Irving Berlins and Sam H. Harriss Music Box Revue (thus its name). The Music Box is considered one of the smaller venues on Broadway with just 1025 seats. However, its box seats are unusually large and round, so it compensates with comfort.Since the century that it is operating, The Music Box has seen numerous top hits on its stage. Pippin, The Heidi Chronicles, King Charles III, Shuffle Along, or, the Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed have graced its stage in recent years. The latest addition is the teen super hit Dear Evan Hansen.Evan Hansen, the main protagonist, is a socially anxious teenager, who spends his time in high school with only a couple of his (not so close friends). The suicide of the school bully – Connor, allows him to get closer to his crush – Connor’s sister Zoe. After a long chain of schemes, Evan enters the Murphy family. They nearly adopt him, giving him Connor’s colleague fund along with the attention he craves. But all bad deeds must be punished, so Evan’s meteoric rise with the Murphies ends abruptly. However, he still gets his happy end. And moves on screen. We’re expecting the Dear Evan Hansen movie sometime this year.
Saw Dear Evan Hansen here and was fairly comfortable as far as theater seating goes. Short wait to get into the venue and we sat in the orchestra section. Amazing show. No lobby to speak of though. You walk through the front doors and youre in the theater within another 10 steps.
Small venue with amazing view of stage and great lighting and sound system. Seats are on the smaller scale like in an airplane so maybe opt for aisle seat. Saw Dear Evan Hanson here but at times the orchestra overshadowed the vocals or maybe it was just our seats?Overall, clean and cozy venue.
Very friendly staff, and no bad seat in the place! Saw Dear Evan Hansen here, and it was great. The staff was very helpful for people with disabilities, and seemed to really be on friendly terms with each other as well. It always makes for a positive atmosphere when the staff likes doing their job, and it was visible that they did here.
Theater, Musicals, Shows on Broadway, what more can be said about that!! The name itself, Broadway, says it all; it is simply the best quality acting and performing platform in the World. The interaction between actors and audiences is one of a kind. The reality and the feeling that if you only stretch out your hand, you might reach those stars on stage is impeccable. Theres nothing comparable to A Broadway show. After 10 yrs in NYC, Ive seen quite a few shows, from Jude Law to Al Pacino and frankly, theres no end to the talent out there. Dear Evan Hansen at the Music Box Theater is truly THE BAR this season. The show won the Tony Award for best show, and it is well deserved. From acting through singing, staging, storyline... it is simply out of this world. The whole story is very real and very familiar to a lot of people. You need to be ready, though, for some heavy subject matter. The theater itself is a classical Broadway venue, very well preserved and retained the expected intimacy between actors and audiences. I highly recommend the show as well as Music Box Theater and its future shows!
Ive seen 3 shows in Music Box Theatre so far (The Heidi Chronicles, King Charles III, Dear Evan Hansen). The Theatre is very well built, with very good acoustics. Even from abstracted view seats (from which I saw King Charles III) most of the stage is visible. At the time of writing this review, Dear Evan Hansen is showing at Music Box Theatre. It is an amazing show and I highly recommend it.
With my girlfriend,I attended Dear Evan Hansen last night (February 2nd). The show was fantastic, we really enjoyed it - well worth seeing. We had an unfortunate incident with one of the members of staff; this woman appeared to be in her early to mid thirties, has blond hair and was running the merchandise stand upstairs next to the entrance to the mezzo seating section. My girlfriend wanted to buy the music score to the musical and was looking at several of the book and t-shirts on sale. The sales representative refused to let her look at one of the books, kept gesturing to give the first one back, clearing her throat and staring at my girlfriend, making her feel very uncomfortable. The sales representative did not ask directly to give the book back or state anything my girlfriend was doing was incorrect. There was no one else waiting in line, my girlfriend was not rude and didnt cause any trouble - I was there the entire time and was shocked to see the sales representatives behavior; the woman was behaving as if my girlfriend was trying to steal from the stand which clearly was not the case. All the rest of the staff was very pleasant and we were very thankful for that.At the end of the show, we went to the bottom floor and purchased the merchandise from the pleasant, helpful woman there. I am writing this review in the hope that this feedback will reach someone who can speak with this sales representative and ask them to behavior more appropriately in future. The encounter was very unpleasant and left us feeling uncomfortable for a good portion of the show, which was very sad. Especially considering the topic of the show, I would hate to see this repeated.Thank you for your time,Peter
Went to see Dear Evan Hansen and the show was fantastic. The story occurs in present day amongst high school students who communicate almost exclusively using technology and social media. I initially considered it non-traditional Broadway. Amazingly, The staging, visual tech, lighting, musical ensemble, all the performers, sound engineering and the entire production really came together to present an unbelievable audience experience
I saw dear Evan Hansen with my son! The show was great and the theater looks very vintage! The employees are friendly and kindly! The price is ok!There is only one point. You von hear the noise from the street, when a truck sets back in the near neighborhood or an emergency vehicle switch on there siren in the front!
Im divided on this theatre. Its small size is conducive to the intimate subject matter of the play, however by the second act I was getting really uncomfortable because the seats are packed together. We were also in the last row of the orchestra section right up against a back wall. Also, I think they sell standing only area tickets and my wife felt someones hands touch her hair from behind (a mistake, I hope). But every angle gives you a great view of the play. If you Google it, you will see that the right and left sides of each section have a partially obstructed view of the stage, however all the action takes place in the center so that wont be an issue. They offer free wifi also, but it was spotty. Bathroom is nice, but waits can be long. Get there on time because they dont allow late seating. Dear Evan Hansen is amazing so that makes me forget about all the negatives.Enjoy!
Great air, not stuffy with beautiful views from anywhere in the theater. Only issue is that the seats are small in width and also not enough leg room. 56 and my hips were killing me in an attempt to keep my legs jammed in. I had the aisle seat so I can only imagine others issues and taller individuals.
This review is for the theater and the show, Dear Evan Hanson. The venue was great. Staff was friendly, courteous and professional. View from seats are unobstructed and other than the extreme wings the seating provides adequate view of the performance. Bathrooms are downstairs and are clean and adequate in size to accommodate intermission needs. Some have reviewed the roominess of the seating negativily. I would say the are average for any venue. If you are large or tall, you may find the seating inadequate, otherwise its fine. The show presents some powerful issues in a modern way. The topics and and language may not be appropriate for the youngest of viewers. Taking teens, even young teens, should be fine and may prevoke valuable discussions. There is the topic of suicide, but also a theme of inclusiveness, which is certainly a common theme in entertainment. Overall, the performance was good. Our party felt the musical numbers were good, not great. The acting was very good and the chemistry among the cast members was very good. Emotional scenes were presented very powerful and evoked high emotions from the audience. Without spoiling the story, the bottom of the second act felt as if it was severely underdeveloped. There is a revelation made that just hangs there and seems as if a third act should have been devoted to issue.Good show, good performance and good venue. Its not going to blow you away, but you will enjoy the experience.
The following is possibly the most overused cliche ever, but if you only see one play this year, this is it. Dear Evan Hansen tore my heart out, then put it back in, in better shape than before. The entire cast is remarkable, not the least of which is the actor who plays title role, Andrew Barth Feldman, who is a remarkable young actor and a phenomenal singer.
Music Box Theatre is great for the most important reason for patrons... Great sight lines from seat in the house. We love seating in the last row in the mezzanine. You can see and hear perfectly. We rate a theater highly if these sight lines allow you an unobstructed view of the stage.
The seat layout was strange at first, with the stage a bit higher than most other theaters to which Ive been. still, the experience was joyful and evocative, the styling of the place was warm and charismatic, and the staff was both helpful and unobtrusive. oh and the play was excellent also. 😁
Avoid in Summer! We went to a show last night and the theatre was exceptionally warm and incredibly uncomfortable. The temperature of the theatre and inadequate air conditioning ruined the show we had spent hundreds of dollars on. The theatre was otherwise fine so would probably be ok unless its Summer. I suggest the theatre spend some of the enormous money coming through to update its terrible facilities.
We had box seats for Dear Evan Hansen. We were warned the view was partially obstructed, but other than having to lean out a bit to see the extreme left side of the stage there were no issues whatever. Now that Ive been inside I can see there are no poor seats. Even the back row of the mezzanine/balcony was close enough to the stage to be a premium seat.
Saw a play last night. Summertime and it was warm outside. The temperature inside was even warmer for the first half of the show. Many people were uncomfortable, using their copy of the playbill as a personal fan. The cooling came on in the second half, much to our relief. The heat unfortunately spoilt the show.
One of the smaller Broadway theaters, the Music Box is cozy if not exactly comfortable. There are nicer, more well finished theaters, but this one has bathrooms in convenient locations (not just in the basement like some others) and even from row J in the mezzanine, you have good views of the stage.
Very good theatre and weve seen some wonderful shows there. I know the theatre you goto is determined by the show you want to see, but the staff is very friendly. It was odd that they didnt post prices at the merch stands for some reason. I cant remember ever seeing that before (even for previous shows at the Music Box). Hopefully, theyll fix that soon - maybe they were recently raised.
Saw Dear Evan Hansen. The first half was enough. The second half was just more of the clichéd same. Single mum doing her best (why not a single dad?). Father figure sharing baseball mitt. Father owns lawyers practice while wife doesnt have a job worth mentioning. Expensive drinks. Simple looking theatre.
One of the only theatres on broadway with decent box seats. So far most of the shows Ive seen there are good. The bathroom facilities are great which is amazing considering most theatre struggle with long lines at ladies rooms. Also one of the few theatres with a water fountain in the lobby.
As with most NYC theaters, the seats are tight and if a tall person is in front of you, youre up for a challenge to see. In addition, the AC was too cold, so you need to bring a sweater in the summer even when it is 90 outside. Youre also going to wait in line at the restrooms.
Came here for Pippin (2013). Its a medium sized theater. My seat was in the last row to the rear, but I still got a clear view of the full stage. There are some nice accents to the architecture here, and I liked the old school drinking fountain on the second floor. The mens room is pretty small here though, so the wait could be a while during intermission.
We missed Ben Platt by a few weeks, or so my kids said. This is inconsequential since I don’t know kid’s programming. The high school plot is around confidence, acceptance and how far one will go to be acknowledged, music is cute. My kids were pleased so it is 5🌟. Way too long 2.5hrs . I was hoping to leave at Intermission yet my 11 year said this was not an option. Good on her!

2022-05-16A very intimate theater so regardless of your seating, you will still have a somewhat decent view. lovely set design (moving set parts, screens, live orchestra on the top corner). came here for the Dear Evan Hansen show and let me just warn you, BRING TISSUE PAPER (and refill during the intermission) cause youre going to need it!!!

2022-03-30Been here before but attended the Dear Evan Hansen Broadway Show tonight. It is so great to be back in NYC for a Broadway show! The venue is clean and rather large. The staff is friendly and helpful!Surprisingly enough, the orchestra seats are very comfortable with enough leg room and you don’t feel like you are a sardine sitting next to people. The sound is perfect! I was seated in D6 and for this show, the seat was perfect! I could see the entire stage and what was going on!On a side note regarding the show - great acting! A modern plot. It was good, but I’m not sure it deserved all the awards it received!Covid-19 Protocol - Mask at all times in theater. Must show vaccination card.

2022-03-01Beautiful theater on Broadway! We saw Dear Evan Hansen here, which was absolutely fantastic! The staff and ushers were extremely kind and helpful to us when we were finding our seats. The security check was very quick and efficient, better than some of the other theaters Ive been to. Overall an amazing experience!

2022-07-24A very nice theatre with a good amount of leg room, even in the Mezzanine. A great, unobscured view from Row J of the Mezzanine. Even from this spot, we weren’t too far away. The bathrooms are a little small and therefore accumulate a very long line so I would recommend using it before or after the show.

2022-02-06This theatre is a very nice venue on Broadway — I saw Dear Evan Hansen here and I was very happy with the experience. The staff were very helpful, and the seats were quite comfortable. I would be happy to return for another performance in the near future!

2022-07-25Watched Dear Evan Hansen 2 days ago at the Music Box. I liked how the theatre wasn’t too large which gives you a sense of intimacy with the show.I would agree that anywhere you sit in this theatre should be fine since the venue isn’t large. We stayed at the rear orchestra and we have nothing to complain about. My only observation is we had to line up before the show for a food 15 to 20 minutes and since the show was full it was a long line. But maybe just expect that.

2022-04-01Incredible intimate theater. Dear Evan Hansen was spectacular. The sound was probably the best sounding theater Ive ever been in. There was plenty of leg room on the seats, nice and they were very comfortable too. I cant wait to go back again!

2022-03-04Seats are quite comfortable with sufficient legroom even for a long legged person (62). Lounge space downstairs was not heavily crowded during intermission and had some nice space with comfortable chairs for preshow. Sized well for the show (Dear Evan Hansen) - definitely happy to visit again.

2022-02-23Every theater in NY, including this is serious about the virus. Your ID must match your excelsior pass. Lines move quickly and the staff is very efficient.
