This was my first time renting from here and the two women behind the counter were very helpful and pleasant to deal with. It was an easy process filling out the paperwork and accessing the vehicle. The car was solid and what I had asked for. The location was close by which helped. I would rent from here again.
I regularly use National - but a shout out is in order for the Team at the 57th ST - NYC location. Not only were they friendly and as always helpful - the MGR went out of his way to ensure we got a comfortable car (traveling with broken leg).........National continues to demonstrate that Customer Service is not just an expression but a way of doing business.
Everything about this rental experience was excellent. The only issue i had was that as an executive club member, my benefits were misleading - it seemed that i could upgrade my standard car to any car in the executive isle which includes all types of cars and even luxury cars. However, this is generally only the case at airports. In the West 58th street location in NYC i was told i could only possibly upgrade by one class per availability.
This rental shop is a joke. The staff act like its her first day of work (except for a black young man who was very helpful). They do not control the queue, they cannot cope with the system and the waiting time due to their ignorance and lack of rush is very long. Not knowing, they literally err and give advice that makes no sense. After 3 hours of trying to arrange anything, they told me that their terminal did not support my card and told me to find another rental shopCAUTIONCustomers who use a non-magnetic card but with a chip / chip card do not do anything here. The rental company only has terminals that support magnetic cards, which by the way should be withdrawn a long time ago due to their age. It is a standard in Europe that has not yet arrived here.IF YOUR CARD HAS A CHIP AND IT IS NOT MAGNETIC. DONT GO HERE! 2021-10-13Most unreliable National location Ive been to, they book more cars than they can deliver and leave clients stranded. I rent cars with National almost every week, for work. In tried this location twice in different weeks, and both times they moved my reservation from early in the morning to mid-afternoon with less than 24 hours notice, with a poorly written email, always the same email both times, that blamed a hurricane that hit more than a month before, offering no compensation for not having the car.

2020-12-24For some reasons a lot of cars rented from this location reeked of strong cigarette smell. Just this year I was given three cars that had this problem despite the non-smoking signs in the car. Whenever I asked for a solution the response is always that they cannot do anything about that despite promises at the time of rental that they will make sure the problem does not occur again.

2019-12-22My wife and I rented from this location on December 20th, expecting it to be a crazy free for all. Instead it was the best experience at a car rental Ive ever had. I have no special status with National but as I arrived everything was already taken care of. The staff was cheerful and welcoming. The manager, Luiz, brought up the car himself as others were busy. Terrific experience. Well done!

2020-06-03This was the worst experience Ive had with National. As an Emerald Club Member and the son of Emerald Club members, National has been consistently great, but not this time. Now that I have a job that requires a lot of travel, I looked forward to using National for every trip, now I have to take a step back and reconsider my loyalty car rental company moving forward. Upon arrival, I was told I could not take a minivan which I had pre-booked- however the web site allowed me to book it. I was driving from NYC to Chicago to move my things since my lease ended in NYC and moving to Chicago, and had to resort to using a Mitsuibishi Outlander which I thought was actually a pretty good car, but it did not have enough space for all my things so I was forced to leave some things behind that I am not sure how I am going to get now. I also had to spend more time figuring out how to allocate space when loading due to the size issue, which added time to the trip. I was told I had to have it back at 10:30 am the next day in Chicago, and had it back at 10:44 am and was charged 75% more to my prebooked cost apparently. Im very upset and have a case number, hopefully National does the right thing and refunds me and ships my things left behind.

2019-01-27Terrible customer service. This was my first time using National, but I will never use Nationals services again because of this employee (who refused to give me her name). The employee who received our return showed immediate annoyance because we did not know where to park the car. The parking area was not obvious - there were no signs. When I asked whether I should leave the keys in the car or return it to the counter, the employee burst with laughter. When I asked why the laughter, I was told in a patronizing tone that it was obvious I should leave it in the car. This happened on January 27 at 4:40pm. She had one job - accept the return of the car without upsetting a customer - and utterly failed at it.Manager apologized on her behalf, but I recommend that there be proper training for providing proper customer service. Ive never had similar issues with Enterprise or Avis. Will have to revert back to them.

2019-01-01I absolutely love this branch. Rose is the best. I did want to mention that we had a problem with our credit card being charged 1500 dollars OVER the actual fee for rental due to someone’s mistake that was never really understood by me, but, they really took care of us and gave us a free day on our rental and everything is cool now. The managers and staff really care and take their jobs seriously. Thanks and we’ll be back over and over again.

2019-05-22Had an amazing experience at this National location. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Also great to know that the location actually allows you to return your rental any time, 24/7. The National website doesnt have this detail since its at each locations discretion.

2017-07-29Worst service ever. Booked a car online, they cancelled a day before without telling me, so called to book an other one. Guy over the phone said he found a car for me at this location and certified they wont be any pbm. Showed up at 9am to pick up the car, they said they didnt have any car available... They dropped me twice in less than a day... Manager on site told me he could give me a coupon for 2 days rentals as a compensation (went to hertz on 55th street to get a car and the service was amazing, they are really not playing in the same category) so I gave my email to the manager for the coupon he said I will receive it in 30min.Many phone calls and 3 weeks later still nothing and every time I call back they play me and put me on hold untill the call hang up by it self. Clearly will notify corporate with time and name of manager. Worst service I have ever experienced. They have no idea how to treat customer and clearly have no interest in running a car service business. AVOID BY ALL MEAN
