ZERO STARS! I am not surprised to find bad reviews of this place. I echo the sentiment of the reviewers who want to give this place a ZERO star rating, but cant. We rented a car from here mid January and the experience wasnt great. The lady at the counter seemed apathetic and in no mood to assist us or do her job. We didnt bother at the time because it was past mid night and we had just ended a 6 hour long 2 flight journey. A week after renting the car we realised that the left rear tyre of the Hyundai Tucson we had rented, was constantly losing tyre pressure. We decided to go exchange the vehicle and when we arrived at the location the service we got was appalling. As we walked in we spotted an AWD Ford Fusion in the lot that we thought would serve our purpose well. When we arrived at the counter it was a different lady this time. When we described the problem to her and asked her to provide us with a replacement vehicle. She, for no discernible reason, asked us to wait while she serviced the next person in line after us. We politely obliged while she helped the next person in line happily making small talk about her recent trip, well after completing formalities with the customer she was working with. All this while we waited patiently simply because we were asked to. When this customer left, she summoned us and we asked for the AWD Ford Fusion. She quite simply responded with “I’m sorry but the lady who just left, took it”. She offered us another car and not wanting to make a fuss we agreed. After she completed our paperwork, which took but a few minutes, and we were ready to leave we asked her why she made us wait. Her response was a desperately unconvincing “because your problem was more complicated”. An apparently complicated problem that took this lady a whole of 4 odd minutes to work through. We were visibly disappointed and expressed our displeasure about the events that transpired, clearly to her. All we got in response was a curt “ but yours was more complicated…have a good night” as she walked away from the counter.I would like National to answer me this – At the counters where you rent out cars, do you have your representatives service your customers based on how complicated the problem is for you to solve? And if yes then it is honestly embarrassing if you consider handing a replacement car to a customer more complicated than handing a new car to customer. From experience they both take a grand total of 10 minutes. We have rented from national for 2 years now and never ever had any trouble. This incident however sticks out like a sore.We felt there was a lot more to the way she behaved with us than just simply bad customer service. So we called National and lodged a complaint about the way we were treated. The National representative told us and I quote “we take complaints of this nature very seriously and we will have a customer service manager call you back to take your feedback about the events”. We got busy with our lives and no call came. Its been close to two months since the events.
Very positive experience with national, very accommodating and courteous, I have used them for the last 4 years that I have rented a car, and each experience has been great. The way the treat you, and their great service. I certainly would use them again next time I need to rent a car for a trip.
I also wish 0 stars was an option. I have been an Emerald Club Executive member since 2000, and insisted on using National wherever business required travel with 3 different design firms. After 19 years of loyalty, we had a death in the family and I needed a vehicle for personal use (the funeral). National insisted on $55 a day or more, even after explaining that I was 1 rental short of a freebie, that my aunt passed away and that Avis offered the same vehicle for $35 / day, and they expired at least 3 rentals from my history. Their Bottom line is the ONLY concern, and my loyalty of over 19 years meant absolutely nothing.SHAME ON YOU NATIONAL. KEEP YOUR EMERALD CLUB PICK UP PRIVILEGES, my loyalty is deserved by those who appreciate it.AVIS gave me first class service and treatment at a better price, value and service. Buyer beware, if you need a rental car, bypass the counter and take the few extra steps to Avis—they will treat you fairly.
WORST MANAMGEMENT & UNPROFESSIONAL BEHAVIOUR BY NEW TEAM.Earlier team was quite professional and helpful as compared to the CUSTOMER.You need to justify the extra charges you were demanding from me to rent a SUV. See my profile snippet below, highlighting the Executive Elite status. Additionally if you are unaware, see the snippet from the benefits option listed in the National Car Website.My national account status makes me eligible for renting a SUV for midsize car reservation. Which (unexplained) policy have you & the branch manager have bought due to which you people forced me to drive back the unsafe vehicle (with broken tail light), requiring Engine Oil change, No washer Fluid in it.If the car engine is seized midway or if the car breaks down, or if any accident takes place due to the broken tail light the complete liability & responsibility is upon you and the branch manager at the Islip Airport location.I have escalated the unprofessional behavior to the Area Manager, though being entitled to rent a SUV i was denied the swap and forced to drive an unsafe & unfit vehicle, i have to make sure the rude and unprofessional behavior at the location is reprimanded.
I rated as National as poor that was my error my problem is not with National Rental Car my problem is with Dollar rental car I really dont know how I became confused but I apologize to National Rental Car it was Dollar Rental Car who left my daughter stranded at the airport at 12 midnight with no means of transportation to her hotel and it cost me over $100 to get a cab to go to the airport to pick her up and get her to go to her hotel National I do apologize for the bad review I gave you Dollar I dont apologize for anything I said for how you treated my daughter you need lessons in Customer Care and customer service

2021-06-26I had a great experience renting a KIA Fort from National Car Rental last week. The car was in great shape and very comfortable. I often spent as mauch as 8 hours a day driving. The service out of Long Island MacArthur airport was also outstanding. No wait and easy in and out.

2020-11-24I rented this vehicle through a corporate discount program for a specified price Saturday to the following Monday. When picking up the vehicle I declined all additional coverages and can not even add them if I wanted to on the corporate program. When returning it, I was charged an additional $200 for insurances I did not need or agree to and nobody seems to think it is important. I will have to find an hour during work hours now to argue with someone on the phone or put in a claim with my credit card company. Highly unprofessional

2020-09-19Our plane was delayed and when we got to the airport there was no one there. The recording when I called earlier said they were open till 11:30pm we got there by 10:30pm . We called corporate and were told there was nothing they could do, but we could come back in the morning to get our car. So here we were stranded at the airport. Ended having to pay $35 for an uber. Then when I called in the morning I was told they didn’t have any cars, so they gave away my car if I wanted I could call back around 1or 2. Ended up having to get a ride to a local rental center to get a car and ended up paying more than originally planned for . And basically National wouldn’t do anything for us.Not happy!!!!!

2018-10-03We love this location, the ease of renting a car and always use them when traveling to Long Island. Staff is usually extremely friendly however the person we spoke to this particular day seemed a bit uninterested.And normally we are able to get more of a high end, clean car however this time, we did not have a lot of options for some reason but it could’ve been the time of day that our flight arrived (4:30 pm).We will always highly recommend National for all car rental needs and especially this location.

2019-01-24I wish I could leave a zero rating. I had a TERRIBLE experience. Staff was so rude and not helpful at all. On top of making my entire experience stressful, after driving the rental car for a few hours out of state I noticed something horrific when the sun started to rise - there was VOMIT all over the drivers side of the car! It was absolutely disgusting. Since I was already a few hours away I had no choice but to wipe it down with clorox wipes. I was contacted by the station manager, Emily Samson, who seemed concerned about my experience. When I explained in detail what happened she just stopped replying to my emails. This just reflects how poorly managed this company is. Absolutely unbelievable experience. I rather spend the extra money and go with a better company.

2019-06-17Excellent customer service by branch manager Michael Coscia. My reservation was for a smaller SUV and it was a tight fit after loading up my family and I for a week-long vacation to Long Island. He emailed me personally the next morning and asked how things were going. When I mentioned the tightness with people and luggage, he upgraded me to an 8 passenger Nissan Armada. Wonderful service in order to correct problems we encountered.

2021-01-29This morning I tried to rent a car from this location, but was declined based on my out of state drivers license having a different address to the credit card address. I asked Peter Duggan to change the address in their system and he refused to do so. Why wouldnt you change the address to the most current to ensure you have the drivers current information? That would be the logical thing to do, but apparently, logic was out with Covid today!!! The branch manager claims this is a Regional Long Island policy. I confirmed from National Corporate offices that this isnt true at all. Only the name on the credit card has to be the same on both items. Apparently, this location calls a 3rd party credit card verification company to verify the persons information, but Peter refused to do so after numerous times of asking him. He didnt want to actually do his job. I am pretty sure he would have to insert a foot in his mouth b/c my information would be verified. In the 15+ years of renting vehicles throughout the country, I have never encountered such an idiotic process. The best part is Peter tells me if I actually flew through ISP, then TSA would have verified my address. How does this even make sense based on verifying a credit card address to TSA?? DO NOT RENT FROM THIS LOCATION!

2017-06-25I thoroughly enjoyed my National rental car experience. They are one of the few who upgrade for free! Their staff are super friendly and seem to care about your travel safety and satisfaction.
