I came here around 9:20am, closed. Google says it open 9-17. Tried to contacted them, no body picked up calls. I waited and saw a staff was working, so I asked him when it would be open. Answered me 10am. Well, now is 10:20am, 10 people and 2 dogs are still waiting, and nobody knows what time it will open. Staff doesn’t open the door or provide any shades for us. Literally standing under the sunlight and getting burned for 1hour.
This is the best nursery on dean st & Washington Avenue. Everyone who works here has very keen knowledge & prices are awesome bring your family and friends to see the variety of plants and soil & pot holders they have you won’t be disappointed. Self sufficient of growing your own food or just to have a positive aura of plants that help you breathe better Natty Gardens selections are always great to see as well as to own for yourself I know I ain’t disappointed in the variety they have . Have a blessed day and many blessings to natty garden
I’ve been coming here for at least 4 years and never had a problem with the plants or the workers. Yes it may be a little pricey compared to Home Depot or Lowe’s , however you are getting better quality and well cared for plants. My daughter and I went in to purchase a plant but came out with 4 plants and a pot. Steven was extremely helpful granted it was a Saturday afternoon and busy. He was knowledgeable about the plants and I look forward to returning for my next plant.
The owner of this place is so rude and dismissive. I’ve been supporting him for years and have always been taken aback by how rude he is to me—and other women I’ve witnessed. I literally never leave reviews but I’m tired of trying to support this Black-owned biz and get treated like trash. That’s the last he’ll see of my Black dollar. Enough is enough! Ugh
Stephen at Natty Garden blessed us with the best plant buying experience we could have imagined! Not only did he share his extensive expertise on the variety of the plants they carry, but he went above and beyond in referencing photos of my home to curate a selection of houseplants best suited to the apartment’s temperature and proximity to sunlight. He was extremely mindful of our taste while prioritizing the well-being of the plant life. Do yourself a favor and come to this location for top-notch customer care. Support your local plant shop and black-owned business!
Mothers Day was around the corner and I had no idea how to pick flowers for the one I love. A friendly and helpful clerk name David was their to solve all my problems. He helped me picked out the most beautiful flowers I ever lays eyes on. Thank you for saving my Mothers Day! Definitely will come back again because of his service.
The employees were very friendly and helpful! However, when I went all the plants looked like they were dying so there was a very limited range of healthy looking plants. I bought a (what seemed like) a very healthy neon Pothos, and when I got home I decovered a few mealybugs and a few fungus gnats. Very disappointed with that.
Thank you to Riv and Natty Garden! The music is great, the plant & pot selections are awesome, and the folks are genuinely kind. I came in with 4 plants for re-potting and 1 sick plant who needed new soil. I am new to the #plantmom life, so visiting a plant shop could have been really intimidating. Riv was patient, explained how to select new pots, and took care of all my plant babies! I’ll definitely be back in the future.Do not be dismayed by negative reviews. We are in the midst of a global pandemic; we are all plugging along one day at a time. A little bit of grace goes a long way.
Over the years, Ive purchased at least twenty plants but will most likely not be returning! This is a black owned shop, but maybe not so much black operated or cultured. Ive noticed a decrease in black staff over the years.I walked into the Washington Ave location today with a friend to purchase a few houseplants. Due to lack of line management, there was some confusion amongst customers on who had the right to approach the counter to pay. It was agreed that I would go first, as I was on the correct side of the store (near the pots). I requested that my plant be repotted in a planter I also purchased there. The cashier (brunette in overalls) said she could do it after assisting the next two customers. I let her know I would wait outside, so to not take up space. I watched as she paraded two WHITE customers around the entire store (inside and outside), walking past me several times with no acknowledgement or status check of my plant. Instead, I asked the friendly black staff member (short guy with locs) to let me know the hold-up. He said she will be just a second, to which I replied she has ONE MINUTE. He chuckled and then let her know I was still awaiting the repotted plant Id just purchased. She appeared to have remember but walked back inside the store, placed both hands in her pockets and started to assist another customer (unprompted). When the black staff realized how frazzled I had gotten, one of them decided to pot the plant for me.As a CUSTOMER, I expect a certain level of service and professionalism. As a black man shopping in a black owned business, i expect a level of care, service and comfort that is usually not always afforded to black people in non-black owned spaces. Youre not going to receive that a Natty Garden, simply because the staff does not embody the culture or have any understanding of it. There are other black owned plant nurseries I will continue to support so im putting Natty on the shelf for a while, if not permanently.
In trying to furnish my exs/kids apartment before they went on a week long vacation, I ordered some gorgeous looking plants from the nicely designed website five days ago. After three delivery dates came and went with no fulfillment, I was told that the plants are out of stock. The person/delivery person on the phone during my final attempt at finding out where my delivery was, understandably, was busy helping other customers, and taking other orders, and wasnt able to give me his undivided attention. There was no attempt at rectification, or later scheduled delivery, was just told that the order would be cancelled, and the call ended. Not the service one hopes for in a flower/garden shop, alas. That’s capitalism, I guess.
Pros- I was looking for a snake plant and called ahead to see if they had any in stock. I spoke to a friendly sales person. When I got there at 1:30 pm to purchase, the store had a beautiful selection of plants.Cons- there was one cashier available and no one on the floor. As a result the cashier had to answer inquiries and ring up everyone up. She was really nice but didnt take into consideration that there were several people waiting to pay as she stopped each time to engage in conversation. I over heard the customers behind me say they had questions about a plant but felt like it was too busy to ask. At one point the cashier called out to someone that was their office to ask a question and I couldnt see why they werent helping at the register or at least on the floor. On a Sat when the store is def busy? I was there for close to 30 min just to pay for a plant. Overall, great store but they need to have more staff available at busy times.
I used to love this place but the last two times I went I noticed that more than half the plants were in need of serious TLC, drying off, wilting, just dull and unhealthy looking. So much so that I almost bought a couple just to revive them. Please please care more about the plants, I would buy so much more if the stock was in good condition.
Ive been coming here for two years and have had very little problems until recently. I get inventory issues from Covid but on top of low inventory that doesnt seem to ever replenish the staff has been unhelpful answering basic questions. Ive also seen either the owner or other staff members yelling at workers on the floor during store hours multiple times and its made made me uncomfortable and unwelcomed. Even the staff were visibly upset.Im sure because Ive left a one star review Ill be seen as a hater by the owner who is only replying to one star reviews but I really gave this place multiple chances and want to keep being a patron, especially to a black owned business, but I cant if theres no inventory and customers dont feel welcomed. If youre looking for basic pots/fertilizers youre better off hitting up a hardware store in the area.P.S. to the Owner who is responding (and I cant reply to directly)1. If youre responding to me then youre not being the bigger person you think you are. All your responses to complaints here are rude to paying customers.2. Im not white.
I’ve been to natty garden twice. The first time was to get a new pot for my jade plant, and the second time I purchased a string of pearls. They are on the expensive side of things, you can find the exact same pots they have elsewhere for less. Also my string of pearls started to rot at the root. I have mixed feelings about the energy in the place. The lady who helped me was nice, but I won’t be going back. You can find same plants elsewhere for less.
I had a horrible experience here today. Unfortunately I had to return everything and leave. I wanted the items, but the way I was handled and overcharged and then made to seem as though it was an honest mistake of miscommunication when the attendant clearly seemed rushed and unfocused. I will never return and don’t suggest anyone to purchase here. I’ve had better experiences at Home Depot—at least you don’t expect anything better there.
Great garden store with a super knowledgeable staff and ample selection. They also offer a reporting service to help you move plants into a bigger living space, if you want to not deal with the stress yourself. Ask the staff any questions you might have, and check here for your pots and other gardening sundries. Highly recommended.
Good shop. Good plants, but I think the guy has pretty low tolerance for people who dont know what they want and havent done their research... unless youre a cute girl that is 😂. Will definitely still shop here, but you definitely feel a bit shamed for being a customer that needs a bit of hand holding.
I have been a long standing customer of Natty gardens going on a handful of years and loads of purchases, and sadly I must say today will be my last trip. The owner must have been having a bad day, because he lost his cool. I buy the same planter every time I go to Natty gardens to buy a new tree, and consistently get charged anywhere between 40-75$ depending on how much else I buy. Today, I brought up a nice new Japanese maple and a few bags of soil, along w the same planter I always purchase. I rung everything up at the counter as I usually do, and the cashier asked me how much the planter cost. I told her I wasn’t sure, and that to be honest Natty usually charges me a different price each weekend so I do not know! The cashier charged me 50$ this time, and as I was loading up my Uber the owner coming out screaming that I was trying to steal! I assured the man that I paid exactly what the lady asked me to, at which point he said the correct price was 150$! I told him ok, at that price I will probably return the item since I had idea it was 3x, and I have bought this many times before. He then insisted that not only do I pay the 100$ difference this time, but that he wouldn’t let me leave till I backpaid him 600$!!!I told the owner that I’d return the planter, would not back pay him (since I would have never bought it months ago at that price), and either we can get physical and call the cops, or he can step aside and let me leave.Very sad, good garden center but trying to cause a scene to guilt me into back paying for years of his cashiers under charging me was simply ridiculous.
Pros:• massive selection of plantsCons:• woman behind counter said she thinks face masks are unnecessary and part of covid “hysteria”• do not require customers to wear a mask indoors (there is no way to social distance)• sold many plants with root rot• mildly overpricedKinda disappointed. Had a much better experience at Do it Best on Fulton, though I’d much rather support local businesses than chain stores.
I’ve come here for most of the plants in my house or even have dropped by to ask for pointers on keeping my plants healthy. The assortment of foliage and soil there are bound to have something of your liking. The staff there are very patient and understanding of those with questions or even people that come by with loud children. Always cool and calm at this place. I love it.
Im addicted to Natty Garden. I can walk to their Prospect Hts location but often drive to the new Bed-Stuy store, where parking isnt so difficult. I totally dig the low key, non-intimidating vibe. The staff is not pushy. If you ask for help they give it. The prices are fair and their inventory excellent. I really love the repotting service... a small price to pay to not have a ruined plant and a mess at home. So glad they are in the neighborhood.
I love this place. They have organic soils and amendments, a wide array of plants, containers, soils, accessories etc. If you want a place where you can find your plants in peace without a high pressure sales person on you, this is the place. Personally I dont like high pressure sales, so if I have a question, I ask it-- and the staff is pretty knowledgeable.
I visited yesterday on a whim and was blown away by how kind everyone was, thank you for answering all my questions! I left with a beautiful pothos and I’ll definitely be back again. My only suggestion is to label pet-toxic/pet-friendly plants if possible since it’s a serious concern for so many people, turns out my plant is poison so I’ll have to keep it up high! But other than that I had a great experience and tweeted about it so hopefully sent some new customers your way.
Plants are more expensive than those from say, Home Depot or a hardware store like Ace but they have a cool selection and very knowledgable staff. Also sell pots and other bits needed for starting a garden. Would recommend buying unique plants here that you cannot find elsewhere but for succulents and air plants and the like you can find a better deal at larger stores. Overall Cool neighbourhood spot with good service and good vibes!
I brought a beautiful croton plant and it was mine and my girlfriends first time raising a plant together. We were indecisive and inexperienced plant keepers but both workers present were patient and extremely knowledgeable. Our plant is growing bountifully! Great place with an awesome variety of plants and impressive service.
Nice place with a good selection of plants, they are friendly and the prices are reasonable consisting the condition of their plants, unlike home depot where the plants are about to kick the bucket. Youll find only specimens of exemplary health here, definetly a place to check out of your a fan of growing anything in the ground
I want to support neighborhood businesses but Natty Garden has been consistently unfriendly over the course of many years (Im a neighbor and resident of Prospect Park for more than 15 years) and I wont make the same mistake of supporting this store again. Specifically, the staff is rude, unhelpful and short. Its a shame that its so difficult to be even mildly pleasant to your own neighbors who would like nothing more than to see you succeed.
If youre buying from a city vendor, like everything in our city, itll be overpriced. You go in to this garden shop knowing the prices will not compare to Long Island, upstate NY or New Jersey nurseries. But youre not in any of those places. This location has some diverse options for a relatively small space, including multiple high quality soil and mulch options. If youre in the landscape industry and looking for nursery level products because its too much of a pain to make another trek an hour away, not to mention terrible for the environment, then charge the client city prices and be happy Natty was able to make your job easier. If youre merely a local looking for some great plant specimens for your home or garden, this is a good option. Most plant shops in the city are smaller, less knowledgable and more limited in variety while costing at least as much.
Brought some herds plants and 1 Jasmine plant all die except 5 of the pepper trees, followed all instructions but their dead, call and their saying no replacement for the plants, well never again $40 down the drain for herds, also please note grown it on a small farm so it dont have anything to do with I dont know how to care for plants because my house is full of plants
Extremely unhelpful service. The guy wasted my time TWICE by not fully listening to what I wanted. I felt uncomfortable every time I had to address him - he seemed bothered and annoyed - and his suggestions were not aligned with my needs, probably because he never took the time to listen and understand what I want. I gave it a fair chance because I do want to support a local business but this place needs to learn some customer service if they plan on staying in business. Im going somewhere else.
Not very helpful as a matter of fact the only person there didnt budge to ask if they could be of assistance and when I asked him he said look around there might be something hanging about that. Nice but where are those plants?? NO ASSISTANCE.. and this is your answer Im sure if it was after 7 you would have told me you were closed I walked around outside for 20 min before I even came inside and walked around for another 20 asked for your assistance twice the baby wasnt an issue you were reading. Smh....if I could give you no stars I would..but no worries this is why you cant support your local business..attitude is everything in a customer service business...I agree with most...YOUR ATTITUDE WILL DRIVE MORE BUSINESS AWAY.
I called in to get an estimate for my small garden that is currently in complete shambles, and the woman who answered the phone refused to give me a price range for landscaping. She insisted that I needed to come in for a consultation, even though I reside across town. I would hope she would have at least asked for a photo of the garden to get an idea of what I was asking for. And then she actually hung up the phone on me when I attempted to explain this to her! I immediately called back and of course, there was no answer.I support local businesses and want to see small businesses flourish, but the way this place is run has much to be desired. They lost a potential client in me (but probably would not bat an eye at this, based on poor experiences of other reviewers as well). Disappointing.
Rude...The place is very nice, I never expected that hostility though.Came in to check for something, the person asked me to send an email for that question, which I did 2 months ago and never got a reply. I usually come to places with the best intentions and expect to be treated with just a tiny bit of respect and attention. Will find another place.
Specifically walked 20 mins here just to have the shop closed at 6pm. Both Google maps and the website indicate open until 7pm. Updated hours to 5pm on Google. The review will remain 1 star until someone updates the hours or lets me know what happened today and why I wasted my time.

2022-01-16Apologies for the blurry photos. I really enjoyed speaking with the staff. He helped me understand the best setting for the plants I was considering. You could tell he was busy but at the same time cares about the craft, and ensuring customers leave informed.

2022-05-28Stop in with a friend to check them out. I about to go back to pickup for my herbs garden. Great location but it’s difficult for parking.

2022-06-04I read some reviews of this place to make sure they didnt have a history of bugs or pests in their plants, and was initially a little turned off by some of the reviews.I dont know what the fuss was about. Ive been here close to a handful of times and I really like the place. They carry good products at a price that makes sense given the convenience of the location. They have some great plants, admittedly not cheap, but in mostly great care from what Ive seen. And I can tell their inventory isnt old, because theyve recently sold out of my preferred potting soil and were able to let me know more was coming in the coming days.

2022-07-02Good selection of plants, unfortunately everything is overpriced and the staff is horribly rude and unhelpful. I have visited this place several times and would let past rudeness slide marking it up to maybe that person was having a stressful day, however, during my most recent visit an employee went out of their way to shame my wife and I for wearing a mask while inside the building. This place is so convenient for this neighborhood, but that convenience is outweighed by their hostility.

2021-05-09I had such a good experience at Natty Gardens this week. I was helped out by a guy named David. I really appreciate someone who takes pride in the job that they do. He was very knowledgeable about different plants/ best seasons to grow/How often to water them/ best bang for my buck. And I really appreciate that. Sometimes you go into stores with a lot of dumb questions. David never once made me feel like I was dumb for the most simplest questions. I really appreciate the hard work of the Natty Garden team. They made me feel not just a priority but like family. And thats very rare for Brooklyn lol

2022-06-18Selection is nice, but some sections won’t show prices (which mostly are quite expensive). Home Depot gave much better prices 🤷♀️

2021-08-09Lots of options for common plants. Came in for potting mix and orchid bark. Surprised to see all the pests preventions and will definitely come back for emergency infestations.

2020-03-06Extremely crowded. Staff werent present or much help. Paid $24 for a small cactus that wasnt tagged, which is now rotting in my kitchen - literally oozing and moldy after 2 weeks. Sad! Recommend the Sill, where I have plants that are thriving for over 2 years! And since I cant respond to the owners reply. I just want to add why I recommend going to another store - where they take more care and warranty plants. Dying after 2 weeks is not because I am filled with hate, its because there was something wrong with the plant, which was my point.Right back at you Natty Garden. Nice example of customer service and love for the community.

2019-03-23Ive gotten my healthiest, happiest plants for the best prices at Natty Garden. This place beats all the fancy stores hands-down. The person working there (the owner) is hard at work tending to the store, but he was very calm, patient, and helpful with me. Cant wait to go back. :)
