Neptune Diner in other cities:
Was recommended by local friends as one of the best diners in NYC. Service was great and fast but the food did not meet my expectations. Pancakes were poorly prepared and over cooked for my taste. The waffle was tasty but the quantity of the fruits was average. Finally the crispy bacon the came with the eggs was too hard to bite.
Fantastic! Visited after work at 10pm on a Friday. No wait, fantastic customer service and the food was delicious. Our server was able to suggest menu items to us, many he expressed were homemade, yum! He also was attentive to When we finished our meals, the check and filling our waters.I had the lemon chicken soup, never had something like this before and it was phenomenal. I also had the goulash, oh em gee, like grandmas homemade pot roast, so good. My guests had a bacon cheeseburger, they did not skimp on the bacon and my other guess had a grilled chicken Caesar salad that was bigger than our heads.Would definitely return to this place!
Classsiccc choice. I love neptunes. Everytime I come I’m satisfied. After I ran the nyc marathon this is where I wanted to come because I knew I’d be seated right away, I knew my portion would be big, I knew the service would be fast, and I knew parking wouldn’t be an issue. Even when the lot is full the street parking is usually not an issue. Highly recommend. I came with a party of 8 on a Sunday morning after trying to get a reservation at other hippy Astoria cafes and we were seated right away.
Plenty food to fill my stomach at a decent price. My friend had the cheeseburger deluxe and I had the grilled chicken bacon sandwich. Very nice setting and relaxing. Was very clean especially the bathrooms. Also has 2 parking lots so that shouldnt really be an issue unless they are extremely busy on that specific day
We had a little of almost everything and the food was good. The waiters are so nice and attentive. They always come around to ask if you need anything and they also recommend you food that you might like if you are a picky eater or unsure of what you would like to eat. This place is clean and can get a little packed but the service remains great, no matter how packed it may get. Good place to eat at anytime. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner.
I used to go to the Neptune diner when I lived in Astoria, 20 plus years ago. I decided to stop here with my wife and 3 kids on our way back home to Jersey after visiting my mom and dad in WHITESTONE. I figured it would bring back some good memories of some comfort food, especially a Chicken Slovakia platter. The service was good, the food was delivered quickly, but I was somewhat disappointed with the taste. I suppose I was expecting more, but maybe it was as good as it was 20 years ago, I just wasn’t so picky back then after a night out with the boys...
The wait for the food was a little much but the food was excellent. One might even say it was worth the wait. I have been noticing a trend that appears in restaurants that also have take out, it seems take out takes precedence over the people who are eating in. Im not sure that that is fair. I was told by the waiter that is what held up my food.
The waiter and staff were very friendly. After taking our order the food arrived quickly. The plate portion of the food is way more than enough for just one person. My fried fish sandwich could of used a little more seasoning. Overall it was good. The fries were hot. The coffee is very good. Menu selection is very large. Facility is very clean. You will need to show proof vaccination to be seated. As for the prices. .. Well it is NY.
Disgusting food ..stale burger bun, french fries are more like they are boiled in water than fried in oil . They must have stopped caring about what they serve people or I thought it was great at 5 am after after night out yeeears ago .never again will I give this place $
A big bowl of salad which looks so fresh with a tablespoon and the sauce hidden on the bottom....a very good idea....!!!I came back to try one of the fish on display, the swordfish, it was very ,very delicious....I didnt need anything on the side, some bread and thats it...just a glass of white wine and then a Neapolitan pastry....when it came to pay the bill, I was charged full price even though I didnt have what it comes with, a soup & veggies....I paid 40USD, no discount...I wont ever come back,a rip off, they have not say a word to me....very disappointed , a lack of customer service....!!!
Fish and chips was okay. Breakfast is far better. Coffee is decent. Clean place. Management is on point. Good view of the bridge.3 stars is for the owner selling out to a developer from what I hear. Neptune may not be here anymore if thats true.If so, why not rebuild, but still keep the main floor as the Diner? You both win if you do it with style. Demand is certainly going to increase. Would be a shame otherwise.
Good dessert options in the middle of the night. Right next I to the Grand Central Highway and Astoria Blvd. Subway stop.Tip: Sit in the dining room; not the counter area. Many people tend to cough and sneeze around you with colds. Not safe or a good idea. It is what it is and 1 of few options.Clean place otherwise.Decent Diner near local Hotels.
An Astoria staple. Been living in Astoria and eating here regularly for 12 years and this place has never, ever disappointed. Very, very friendly staff and blindingly fast service. Dine here if you want to be treated like youre a guest of, or part of the Astoria family.
Classic NYC diner. Been coming here for decades. Hadnt been in a few years and still great if not better. The service was perfect. From the friendly hostess to the waiter who informed me that the special was a better value and came with juice as well. The food has always been fresh. Order delivery once in a while and always happy with that as well
**Indoor dining during COVID pandemicLayout/atmosphere*Counter taped off; booths (with aquatic shell pattern/style) and tablesService*QuickFood*Brownie (with nuts) - good*Canadian bacon - good*Cheese omelette (mozzarella) with green peppers - good*French fries - OK*Mexican Burger (cheddar cheese & jalapeños) - solid*Pancakes - Good*Turkey bacon - Good; nice & crispy
I haven’t walked into this diner in twenty years. The inside hasn’t changed. Used to be the place to go but not today. I asked for eggs and bacon. The bacon was undercooked. The coffee was cold. I asked for another cup and that cup was also cold. Guess it will be another 20years before I come back
Havent been there since my youth, nice to see it is still a neighborhood institution run by a Greek family for a long time, and open altogether at least 50 years. I only ordered a Burger deluxe to go, so its not fair to rate them based on the type of food because this was basic late night take out food and hamburgers and french fries pretty much taste the same at any diner more or less. I can say that the service was very friendly and attentive and I do intend on going back another time when we could sit once again inside and order from a full menu
Ive been here before and the food was good, but this time I had a bad experience. I was disappointed with my entire meal. The bread was cold, i asked for a Cesar salad and was brought a garden salad with the dressing on the side, one of my fried jumbo shrimp tasted old and spoiled, my milkshake was just dumped in a glass with no whipped cream or cherry or extra leftover milkshake, my mashed potatoes were cold and gritty. So the only thing I liked was the mixed veggies and mozzarella sticks. I shouldve gotten the french toast like my son did, i wouldve been better off.
Good food, and excellent service. A true treat. It used to be 24 hours and a great place to people watch at 3AM when I couldn’t sleep. Alas, it’s now open from 7AM to midnight as far as I can tell (darned pandemic!) So now it’s my breakfast or dinner indulgence.I just found out that the area has been rezoned to accommodate some residential buildings and that this means the end of Neptune at some point in the future. NYC should be preserving its diners!
As a first timer, this spot that was recommended to me by a local. The decor of Neptune makes it easy to travel back in time, so I went with an old favorite. I tried the strawberry waffles and a basic coffee. Judging by my experience... Do it! And Ill say that their great staff never left me alone for too long.
A legit New York diner with a robust menu delicious diner fare with Greek offerings to boot. Youll find something tasty here. The interior, though antiquated in typical diner fashion, is clean and warm. The service is excellent and friendly. Great place to meet for any meal. Nice location near the N/W to connect with friends before they take the M60 to LaGuardia.
Hate to say this but this once great diner is beyond dated and living in the past in a bad way. I love a classic diner but this is just sad. Food is alright, in fact Id say they need new chefs new plates to offer and fresh ideas. Felt sad and sorry being there. Very depressing.
Ordered the seafood combination. It had 2 shrimp; over cooked, 2 stuffed baked clams; were over cooked, filet of sole; was over cooked. My friend ordered fried fish; cam really over cooked. Sent all food back. Ordered a hamburger to go. Got home put it into my fridge. Not sure I am going to even open it. The waiter was nice and took the food back, but I believe he talked to the manager 1st. The manager never came over to talk to us. Do not think I will be going there ever again.
This is the first time in 20 years that I went to Neptunes diner in Astoria. My friends ordered some eggs, toast and coffee ,I ordered my usual corn muffin except this time I got an un-corn muffin made of flower instead.Gone were the days were Neptunes chefs made all the pastries and bakery products in house.Nowadays ,I was told by Spiro the manager everything is delivered from an outside bakeryThe owner doesnt want to bother. The block where Neptunes is will be demolished to make room for an other rental building....Now all astoria and long island city are basically a construction site to make room for the new astoria....what a pity....in the days this diner was hopping with diners from all over for its famous moussaka and fresh fish 🐠.
Im rating a delivery order. I had good experiences dining in but ordering ubereats/grubhub seems to always have an issue. They left out half of my order:( also I recommend NOT ordering chicken and waffles. They dont season the chicken AT ALL its really disappointing. They seem to do well with eggs/omelettes which is what i normally order........I really regret ordering ubereats from here:(
The Chicken Parmesan Spaghetti was so bland, I had to season it myself with salt and pepper. The Chicken and Rice Soup that came with the pasta was better than the main entree lol. My friend had Fried Chicken and Waffles, and he was upest about how dry and flavorless the Chicken was, in fact, my friend had to use all his strength to cut the Chicken. I would honestly just come here for the breakfast if youre too lazy to go to McDonalds.
Quite possibly the best diner i have ever been to in my life and i have been to some great diners. I ordered a mexican burger well done and it was deliciously juicy and practically melted in my mouth. The staff was as great as the food! I went here because it was rated best diner in queens and it definitely lives up to that name!
This is an excellent and absolutely classic style diner that fits the description of everything you think a diner should be. The amount of options on the menu will make your eyes spin and the booths will make your butt bounce. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a great diner experience.
Diners in the time of COVID!Neptune Diner has a large parking lot so they have been able to set up a tented section for outdoor dining that will keep you off the street. My friend and I opted to dine inside. The place was very clean and the food was very fresh. We had cheeseburgers and I took a grilled chicken to-go for my mom who proclaimed it was some of the best she had ever had. I also had the cream of turkey soup as an appetizer. It was tasty. All in all, this is a great place to eat if you are in Astoria.
Food is basic, but good. I give this place 4 stars because it has the classic diner feel from back in the day with the type of food they serve to compliment it. They know how to cook their eggs very well. Omelets are tasty. I was not impressed with their potatoes; they werent bad but were definitely not my favorite. This is a place Id go back to once a year. I think I actually do only go to Neptune Diner once a year.
We have been here 3 times. I have 2 year old twins and a 10 year old. Each time they have been fast with the food and the food is great. The workers help me greatly with the twins and are patient. Service is amazing! Even if the food was mediocre I would return for the amazing service. But I’m sooo glad the food is as great as the service. Now we compare other diners to this one!
Ive been coming here for over 40 years. Ive been through 3 owners of that place. The first owner ran it the best. Now the food is plain jane. The burgers are half the size they used to be. The old timer waiters need to go. They love to strike up conversations with the other costumers while youre waiting for them. The price is not too bad. Their coffee is very very good cause its always freshly brewed and they have a good quality machine. Their lines are always cleans. Service is slow, cashier is miserable and the manager is useless to say the least.
Finally went to the Neptune Diner after wanting to for the last couple of years but never getting around to it. So glad I did. Everything was excellent. Fried calamari appetizer was perfectly cooked, not overdone. I had the gyro platter as a main course, perfectly seasoned and tender. And the cheesecake was out-of-this-world delicious. Will definitely be returning here many times.
This is the diner of Astoria. While there are plenty of spots to eat in Astoria the Neptune Diner is the spot. We’ve been going here for years and have taken our family here as well for quick breakfast or lunch. The food is basic diner food and the service is good and fast. The prices are a little high for us now that we live upstate and can get 2 eggs, toast and home fries for under four dollars in Wurtsboro. Overall, Neptune diner is good and we still try to come here at least once a year when we visit the family.
The food was good, hot, and quickly brought. The server was courtesy and attentive. I recommend that you review you check after paying the bill I think I was charged for a second cup of coffee but was embarrassed to see the check for review. But I will be making return visits. The service is what makes me return to establishments like this one. There is also plenty of parking on the off hours of the day. Peak hours may be a problem.
First time here by recommendation of our hotel. I had the Neptune burger, which was a nice size and came with an abundance of good cuts of bacon. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I ordered the 7-layer chocolate cake for dessert; it was decent but I expected a cake that was more dense (I know some don’t like this but that’s just my preference). Very light and filled with a whipped, mousse-like filling rather than chocolate buttercream frosting. Good prices for the portion sizes.
It is an Astoria staple. Great food and efficient service. I have visited this Astoria dinner for years and have never had anything bad on the menu. Coffee is strong, bacon is crisp and service is friendly. What else do you require for a nice breakfast or great hung over food?
I love this place and the people who work there. My brother Dean used to go there daily for meals. He passed in 2002 and we had his farewell party there. They had almost 100 people in the banquet room. The food and service was wonderful. Thank you. Still remembered in my heart❤️
Great place, and has been for many years now! They can even boast that they have a very good grilled Octopus, which I have yet to see another diner offer! The service is good and the place is very clean, including the restroom. Food is fresh and the coffee is too! Great place that will hopefully continue this fine tradition!
Nice little affordable family diner, but in my opinion, the food is really bland. I usually just go there to meet up with my family. They’ve been going there for decades and they swear by it. I do love how friendly and family oriented the owner and staff are. They just need to season up a little bit.
Used to be the best diner in Queens.Love the food, typical diner with various choices of American and greek food. We always have the seats and rarely have to wait.My kids love the burgers, fries and gyro. My hubby likes the skirt steak and I tried the seafood, with crab meat and shrimps, plus salad. The waiters are seniors but they’re nice. It feels like one big family here. The price is reasonable and the food come fairly fast.It might be a bit tricky to get the parking but it’s right across Astoria Boulevard train station. So no need to drive your car.
Very overpriced and overrated on many of the food items. The burgers are sub-par. Ive had better in many other places. Its hard to ruin breakfast in any diner so thats not a big deal. And its not like its top quality food either. Just look at the prices on their steaks and chops. Its absolutely ridiculous. I could eat in a nice restaurant in Manhattan for some of these overinflated prices. Its a diner for goodness sakes! Some of the waiters are okay but management is very unfriendly and very unwelcoming. I will rarely go there now unless Im getting home super late from work and havent eaten yet - its right there at the subway stop in Astoria. The people on here who review and give them 4 or 5 stars must not get out much or get to eat out much.
Good greek diner. Theyre on Grubhub and it can be hit or miss sometimes with delivery. One order hot and fresh, very good, the next one a bit cold and soggy. Overall, not bad. I also always rate diners on whether they burn their bacon or not: over many orders I am satisfied to say they cook it to perfection 99% of the time.
READ BEFORE YOU GO & GET FLEECED. TERRIBLE!I stopped off here for a Greek Salad. Menu cost $13.95. Extra chicken cost $6.95. I asked them how much more for salmon instead. Guy says not much. Well, they charged me $26 for a pice of salmon. I left the diner with a $46 lunch bill. I even took it up with the lady and the manager up front and they would budge, said thats what I ordered. The people in line behind me were stunned and took me aside out front to tell them what terrible management they had and how they wouldnt be returning after that. AVOID.
Wasnt too happy with my food or My daughters food the souvlaki was dry and overcooked and my daughters hamburger was burnt and very dry as well french fries were not cooked well service was great it used to be a great diner years ago i havent been to NY in years so I was very disappointed 😞
My relationship started here. I have a warm place in my heart for this place. Also they have an option on the menu for two cheese burgers. I like that. I can order it and only get judged half the amount I would get for ordering two separate cheeseburgers. Will come again.
My family was eating here long before I was born, but I just dont get it. Most of the staff are rude unless you speak to them in Greek. The food is overpriced and usually not even good tasting. Ive had runny omelets, wilted salad, and pancakes that taste like hamburger. Its a shame the food and staff are so bad since its a great location with really charming decor.
I never felt so disrespected in a restaurant. I told the waiter I have a sesame allergie and they brought my Dad hamburger bun in all sesame. The sesame was all over the table and my dish was coming after so I know it would be cross contaminated. So I refused the breakfast. My dad explain to the waiter and the waiter had no clue in the world what my dad was saying. For someone with a severe allergie they should be considerate. My moms dish had under cook eggs and stale potatoes as if it was made yesterday. So I recommend people with allergies do not come to the diner. Also if you want to come to the diner with old food then be my guest. The check was 100 dollers which was over price for something so mediocre. I have no idea how the daily news say it the best. I recommend you go to Jackson hole instead which is a block away and considerate of people with allergies.
I recommend this restaurant for breakfast or lunch. Dinner is a little overpriced for the selections. But overall it is a comfortable atmosphere (not the hustle and bustle of Manhattan). Service is quick and answers any questions you may have. Neptune has a good selection of breakfast items at a reasonable price and very important, they keep the coffee coming!
Pass by to see this location since I was walking in the area.I was greeted by the cashier and pointed me to the takeout section. The staff was very polite and friendly by asking me questions for my order.I would definitely recommend this place. Next time Ill stay and sit and Ill review it again.PS. My order came exactly how I wanted it. A+
Was driving from LA to CT and came across this classic diner as the last option before the bridge. Ordered a hungry mans breakfast and left stuffed with all this French Toast goodness! For God sakes their French Toast can feed a group of 4.The coffee is good and comes at a steady pace. The wait staff and management are down to earth and helpful. They run a clean establishment.Interesting diverse crowd. Kinda like a NY twist to a route 66 Diner.Weekday morning was very chill. Locals grabbing their breakfast before starting their day. Night times here tend to be filled with after-clubbers. Lively and loud at times. Peaceful in her mornings.
Honestly the worst food, I got a sandwich + pancakes. Both were inedible. They were around $18 a dish... I live super close & it was quite the disappointment. The avocado in my sandwich was all black, the bread was stale, and the French fries were cold and soggy. How does one mess up french fries ?
I feel sad to write this, because this place used to be a go to. Went last week and it was such a disappointment. Service was terrible, I mean awful. One of the waiters was just making conversation with a lady behind us ( she was loud) and the waiter just went on at her pace. Food was mah! Even the lox looked sad. Pricey and bad. That was my last visit, spare yourself of an awful diner experience.
Late night or after work in the evenings, the staff has proven excellent, however day staff was disgusting, I came in today ordered a homemade lemonade which I had ordered and enjoyed in the evenings I came along with my favorite baby salmon stuffed with crabmeat which is 24.99 (an entire fish head n tail included...tells you how often I came there after work I have my order memorized)...how however between the server and manager on duty today Sat July 28, 2018 around 10:30 am l am utterly surprised, they rudely insisted that they only had fountain lemonade and refused to even sell us water with lemon wedges so we could accommodate ourselves. Across the street there is a great restaurant called Chick n Soup, comfort food great service and they have won me over and I am sure many other customers who appreciate courtesy, respect and good service.
This once-venerable diner has slid all the way downhill to become one of the worst places in the city. Its hard to imagine a diner with such awful coffee, such repugnant food, such terrible service but there it sits. The last time I came there was hostile service, underdone eggs adorned with hair on the plate, and pre-warmed but floppy bacon - this got me to stand up and leave without paying (with their permission). Then, yesterday evening, my wife and best friend and I thought wed stop in for coffee. It was about 4:30 in the afternoon on a Sunday. We were led to a table, and I told the manager we just wanted coffee. We had two cups of coffee and a hot chocolate (made from an envelope of mix). The coffee was repellent; vile; horrific. We asked for the check and it was $12. The waiter told us there was a $4 minimum per person at the tables. That was the last money these people will ever get from me.
Eat here before August 2019 when they close the doors forever!! Dinner for myself and my guest (spring lamb and roasted potatoes, classic homestyle Spanikopita) was superb, my soup and guests salad were very nice, bread unusually delicious. Very fair prices, service was very courteous. I heartily recommend.
Food was good but the charbroiled octopus was a disappointment. Had it there in the past and it was good but on most recent visit portion was very small and not prepared well as it has been in the past. The salad was good and so was the Turkey sandwich that my partner had
Ive lived here for 58 years & for at least the past 35 theyve had a sign outside stating that they were voted one of the 10 best diners in NYC - TOTALLY UNTRUE! Many of us around here for a long time really think that they put up that sign themselves. If they didnt then the person rating it has never eaten in a good diner anywhere. They are one of the 10 WORST. Food is Not that good & the service is not that good either. Travel a little further down Astoria Blvd. to the Buccaneer diner, actual parking lot, great food & really nice staff!
This dinner goes for a classy feel but its just your regular diner. I read a review claiming the best french toast. Um couldnt be further from the truth! It was just tasteless toasted challad bread. I was given the cheap imitation syrop to go along with it and butter. Nothing special here. Save money and go somewhere else where they serve the same low quality food for less. I sat at the counter and the waiter was attentive.
Two couples went there about 4am after a party. The service was as you would expect at a avenge diner . Service was good, food was good. Because at that time many ppl just finish partying so you are greeted by two security guards at the door. The place is a diner as you would expect no more no less.
Decided to go here last night & NEVER AGAIN! When we first got there we were served water with ice and as the ice melted it overflowed and made a mess all over the table. After I ordered a caesar salad with shrimp. The dressing on the salad tasted just like Italian and even was the same color and texture. The waiter told me that it was indeed Caesar dressing because the diner doesn’t use Italian dressing ever. I also noticed that my salad had no parmesan cheese and when I asked the waiter I was asked surprisingly if I wanted Parmesan on it as if they didn’t know Parmesan cheese is part of a Caesar salad. Then the waiter handed me finely grated Parmesan cheese as if I had ordered a pizza instead of a salad. Overall, the service was horrible and no one was helpful at all if anything they only made things worse. If I could give negative stars I would but unfortunately I had to at least put one. Stay away from here if you want to avoid a bad food experience.
I love diner food but Neptune is my go to spot. our friends would make a trip from miles away just to eat here. that being said i am talking about breakfast and for the many years i have came here i only came for breakfast food i have yet to try their lunch and dinner. though we did have desert one time and it was phenomenal
Best freaking diner ever. Im on a no carbs diet and had no problems feeling full with delicious fare. The waiter was extremely friendly and attentive. I had pot roast with lemon sauce which was superb and plentiful. Waiter took pity on me and gave a double sauteed vegetable side and huge dinner salad. Really happy and will return from Manhattan because all the good diners here closed.
3.4⭐ Go here about once a year. I usually go with a souvlaki platter or the gyro platter. Food has always been pretty good. Service was ok. There is a parking lot around the diner but its very tight so if u drive one of them huge vehicles take your butt N park elsewhere.
Horrible service for New Year Day. They changed 17 dollars for an avocado, meanwhile I was there two day ago and they changed 6.95. The owner was there and did nothing about it. What a rip off.Ive been going to this dinner for over 20 years. Im done with this place. Service lately is horrible.
Neptune Diner, it was my first and last time calling for a delivery order. I believe you should pay more your employees because they probably feel they’re not getting paid enough to pick up the phone and take an order helpfully without being negative and unprofessional.I called firstly to place an order and I was on hold that seemed like they hanged up, because no one told me I’m being forwarded. I was convinced they hanged up so I called again. Now on the second attempt to place an order the employee was not helpful at all, actually she was kinda angry like I did something wrong for calling them. She was frustrated with speaking on phone and said “oh my god” to her colleagues like she’s doing me a favor to take my order. Does she understand that she’s getting paid to do that?I told her to cancel my order, I’m good, there are plenty of places open 11 pm in the neighborhood, this is New York City, the city that the fittest survive.
Despite being named after a Roman god, theres plenty of reliable food here. I know people who eat Greek-style seafood, but I usually stick to the diner fare. Homefries are my benchmark, and theyre decent, but not great. Like I said, reliable and good for a quick diner meal. Theres limited parking for those whove driven, too.
Its a classic and I have nostalgic reasons for coming, but it is expensive and not especially innovative or interesting, even for a diner. Basics like salad (iceberg predominates) and fries (frozen and bland) are not the best, at all. The last two times I have been here, I left feeling like I spent too much.
Food is average, and service in the diner is average. I tried ordering delivery and they dont bring food pretty much anywhere out of astoria. i only live 12 minutes away, and they couldnt deliver. Some places have limits I understand, but the service I recieved over the phone wasnt inviting at all.
This is So MUCH more than a diner. The food is consistently fresh and well prepared. Its been around for decades and this is why. Everything from Burgers, to breakfast items like eggs, bacon and homefries to daily specials is delicious. Since it is Greek owned you will see a lot of familiar greek specialites like pasticio and spanakopita and avgolemono soup on the menu. They even have an extensive seafood menu which is fresh, delicious and way better than some of the nearby greek restaurants. The Staff has been the same for years which says alot about a business. Located right under the N train it doesnt get any better in terms of location and there is Free parking for customers. Highly Recommend.
The food is always just ok. But the service is by far the worst. Coupled with disrespectful staff. My wife went with our 9 year old child and the waiter has the nerve to hit on her and try to slide his number in front of my child. It took all i had not to go there and ring his neck. When i called the manager he replies call the cops if there was something wrong. Instead of saying soething to his employee he tells me to call cops wow
Came here to test it out with a group of 2. First thing I noticed when walking in was the noise level and decorations. I couldnt believe that they were able to block that much of the subway noise. You can hear it if you pay attention to it but overall, its relatively quiet in the restaurant. The decoration is really cute and I think the theme matches the name of the place. However, the food is just so so.We ordered the charbroiled octopus, tripe soup, and chicken pasta with white sauce. Only thing I can say is that the portions are huge, especially for the chicken pasta. That order is for 2 people. But food was eh. Chicken was very dry and no amount of pasta sauce could help the dish. The vegetables werent that fresh. The lobster bisque that came with the dish was on the salty side. Also had a lot of rice in it. I dont like rice in my lobster bisque. You can sort of taste the flavor of lobster and there are very small lobster pieces. The charbroiled octopus is an appetizer dish. It didnt taste as burnt as I thought it would be. Theres lemon and lots of oil in the dish. Its decent, slightly better than the pasta dish. The tripe soup. Its an acquired taste. They kind of make it Asian style, like the one you have at dim sum but in a soup form. I dont think many people would like it.Service was good. Water was always full. Waiter came by 2x to ask us how we were doing. Would I recommend this place, no. Would I come back, if I was REALLY lazy and didnt want to go anywhere else. This place is also pricey, but you do get big portions. I originally wanted to give this place 2 stars but I thought Id be generous since the service was good, food was so so.
I had a good experience here (though I suspect part of it may have been the company I was with) The server forgot to note a side of bacon but it was brought out almost* before we noticed. Great save. Its out of my way and I probably wont return but the memory will be a fond one.
Very good food, great customer service. If I had to nitpick about anything it would be about the parking situation. Very oddly shaped parking lot with maybe 10 spots. On the other hand, its in a very busy Astoria corner under the notorious MTA train system so Im thankful for the 10 parking spots.
I came to get a slice of pie from Neptunes, and after about two bites I noticed something crunchy so I spit it out. There were pieces of eggshell in my cheesecake, which happened to cut my tongue. After notifying the manager he replied with it happens and then walked away. The server was kind enough to get me a piece of another type of pie but it was dry and tasted like freezer burn. When I told him that it was inedible and that my tongue was still throbbing, he went to get the manager. The manager then went to the other room and hid from my sight until I paid and left the store. I should have complained more but I just paid and left. I at least made it clear that I would never be back. Just for the record, Im usually the type of person to give two star establishments a five star review. Im not too picky. But my tongue still hurts and the taste of freezer burn lingers in my mouth. The manager there is a nightmare.
My daughter lives in Astoria, and I hail from Massachusetts...when I visit her it is a must that I have lunch at Neptune Diner! The food is consistently delicious and the servers are friendly and on top of their game! I highly recommend the Greek Avgolemono Soup...chicken, egg and lemon w orzo pasta 😋
Really disappointing! Stopped in for a quick late night bite to go and ordered the GRILLED CHICKEN avocado bacon tomato panini and while placing my order the waiter was watching a soap opera on his cell phone not really listening to me and as a result when I got home my panini had no grilled chicken 🤦🏽♀️ That’s like forgetting the beef patty on a hamburger. It was slow at the time so this mishap is inexcusable.
Don’t order take out on Saturday night. You call inquiring about your dinner after an hour, they tell you it’s on it’s way.Half hour later they tell you they’re real busy & it will be out soon.By then you are frustrated, hungry & they become nasty because you’re calling about your order, when they could of just told you it would be a long wait when you first called.Needless to say- never got my order.
RUDE !! The old man was rude I will never come back. He sat 2 customers that walked in behind me while I was obviously waiting & then came to my table and informed me “you can’t just sit here you have to order” because I wanted to wait for my guest. Then charged me $9 for cup of coffee I didn’t even touch.. they were so rude I left. I can spend my money somewhere else with less attitude. For the record I was dressed well and mtg someone for business. I’m in healthcare I Help old people !! And meeting a new staff member to help old people in HIS community. DO NOT GO ...food didn’t even look very good.
Classic diner under the train, right on Astoria Blvd. Check out the huge seafood case right when you walk in. I mean just look at it. Professional waiters that have been serving hash long before you were eating it. They won diner of the year sometime. It says it on the placemats. They actually have a bunch of parking spots which is unheard of around here.
I remember going to this dinner from the early 80s, food its ok,service???NOT GOOD! If a customer (long time loyal) ask for a table in the diner room its just because I dont like bootstrap tables,Im a big guy! The management made me walk out just like anyone.BAD BAD BADAfter that I had no choice but go to villa gaudio at least they give me options where to seat
Food is fine for a diner, pretty greasy, but I did get takeout. Biggest problem is their delivery people. Skeevy old dudes who are rude and yell at you for taking the food you paid for? I dont even know what this dude was yelling at me for, but lets just say you trying to come into my apartment is not okay.... better to just eat there or pick up your food yourself.Update 2-19 got the same meal, but haven’t ordered from here in a while. The disco fries are sad..... burned sliced cheese and a tub of gravy. Thanks for making it DIY now?

2022-02-16Try to go to Neptune soon. The City has rezoned the area and Neptune will soon be bulldozed so rich developers can build high-rise condos for extremely rich people. No diner is more atmospheric than Neptune, and the food is a cut above the typical diner. Efficient service and fair prices. A great diner in every way and it wont last long.

2022-06-10Neptune Diner is a great find! Have been there twice in the past couple of months. Excellent diner fare for reasonable prices. The food is great tasting, large portions and comes out piping hot! All of there ingredients are very fresh. Best diner in the local area and most likely the NYC area!!!

2021-05-23Love this typical but way above average NY Diner. A small amount of parking available in front and more in the back. Easy in and out also right next to the train line. Clean and safe area. Wait staff is excellent, like a jump back in time. Food was good. Fish & Chips lunch was great. Best tarter sauce EVER. Ckn salad club sandwich was good. Fries were great. Lemon pie huge w/ a delicious sponge type cake crust. Across the street the Jets or maybe it was the Sharks played bball an I kept waiting for them break out in song & dance.🎶🎵

2022-05-23I came here because of a good experience at the other neptune diner in Bayside and this place was a huge let down… Simple stuff like fake syrup, slightly burned pancakes and overcooked omelettes. I imagine this place was probably fine at some point in the past but at least have actual syrup if you’re a diner, this isn’t a west virginia waffle house and my friends and I feel like it was a waste of a trip to go.
