We ordered food to go last night and it was ready in less than 15 minutes. Got some tofu satay, ate it on the street with friends. SO good! The Roti Canai was crispy and the sauce was delish - tender chicken and a nice chunk of potato- I could eat that all day. I loved the way the tofu was stuffed and the peanut sauce was excellent. Then we took the rest home, and enjoyed the Malaysian Buddhist dish and Singapore Chow Mei Fun. There were lots of sauces in the bag for different preferences. I look forward to going back soon and getting some kaya jam too!
This is the best nasi lemak I got outside Malaysia so far. The Acha and the ikan bilis chili onion is superb and the curry chicken is almost the same as our Malaysia local standard. Moreover, the price of this restaurant is very reasonable. If you are bored on the burgers, steaks and french fries.. this is the best I can recommend if you are around this area.. thumbs up!
Service is great!Just a little disappointed when I haven’t have the hometown food for so long and I know they could do better. If you ask a real Malaysian, the food just barely pass the minimum standard.Oyster pancake (蚝煎) was not crips and quite greasy,Char Kuey Teow(炒粿条) portion was big, but the flavor can be found in any typical Chinese Carryout. Not the right noodle style either. I don’t expect the noodle to be exact same, but Wok Hei (锅气) must be there.I asked if they have Kaya Spread with bread, but the Vietnamese server didn’t quite understand what I was really refer to and said yes to me while seating me. I remember one of the Malaysian chef was there listening the entire conversation but he didn’t correct the server/ step in to say anything, just creepily looking at me.Would like to give them second chance when I return to NYC
Very good service, delicious food and authentic. I actually lived in Malaysia for years and I can tell that this restaurant is very authentic and 100% Malaysian. The prices are very reasonable, the quality is great, and the staff are very nice. The restaurant is clean and well ventilated.
This is one of the best malaysian restaurants on 8th Avenue. The food is really tasty and it has good seasoning. The customer sevice is great. The womanand man in front is very friendly and I definitely recommend this restaurant. Its really difficult to find a good malaysian spot in the neighborhood and this one spot is definitely worth it. Please go show some support.
The waitress literally dropped the roti on the table and literally just picked it back up and served it to us. The portion size is definitely not worth the price. The food here does not taste good. I came here a couple of times and I was disappointed all the times I was here. Would not recommend this place
Ordered Curry beef stew, $12.50 with three little pieces of meat, everything else is ineatable fat and tendon. This will be the last time I buy at this place. Gonna tell my friends not to go there. The pork on the other dish also taste a little bit sour in a funny way, ended up throwing it out.
Terrible service. Waitress refused to exchange an order that she messed up. Furthermore, she even tried to gain sympathy by saying she had to cover the cost of the dish if she were to bring it back to the kitchen. We ended up paying for a dish we didnt even touch. Never returning, not worth it.
I Came here with my girlfriend whos half Indonesian. She liked Gado-gado. Me not so much: tofu, bean sprouts, shrimp crackers and peanut sauce - I eat all of these daily but at Belacan it didnt stand out. Fried crabs meat wouldnt come out in one peace but continue to shred, which wasnt a good sign. I asked the owner because the staff doesnt speak English about Mango Prawns. He sent 5 pieces to us, we ate one each: those were over cooked, totally dehydrated. We asked to take it off the bill. The owner, interrupted from his phone, argued with us pointing out that we ate a half. We also discovered that prawns were previously frozen. He noted that thats how its done in Asian restaurants which was attempt to play on ignorance and racism. We lost it here! We didnt pay for the prawns. My girlfriend felt sick on the way home. Hopefully, we wont have to go to the hospital.
New Belacan is never empty, but its never full either. Its one of those places you wonder about how theyre still in business. Ive seen this place under new management quite a couple of times. Every time, its usually a hit or miss but mostly a miss. Sadly, this time was yet another miss.I ordered the mee goreng. It was just very lackluster. But what it wasnt lacking was grease. I tried my Dads chicken curry and the chicken was dry. The curry wasnt bad though. My mom had the fish head soup with rice noodles - I actually really liked the broth so I guess if I do find myself back here again (unlikely), that is what I would probably order.Service was slow, which is a no-no for a restaurant on 8th Ave. We Chinese people are an impatient people. While this level of service would have been appropriate in Manhattan, it doesnt quite fit in this Brooklyn neighborhood. There are a few other Malaysian options in this area, so you might be better off at one of those.
Their Hainanese Chicken is clean, fresh, and delicious, and is better than that of their two close competitors (Nonya and Redang Island). The Nonya location nearby drowns their gummy-textured chicken in soy sauce (unlike the Manhattan location which makes it very well). The Assam laksa at New Belacan is also consistently good with a strong, delicious soup and perfectly textured noodles.

2022-06-15As soon as you enter the door, you feel the welcome of the restaurant staff, perhaps there are fewer waiters, so once you order, the waiter is more likely to take care of the customers who have just entered the restaurant; the price of the food is cheaper than the others same type of restaurant in the same area, but the material is correspondingly not enough, for example, there are only about 8 small pieces of beef in green bean beef; and 2 shrimp, 2 small squid rings and 4 slices of fish balls in seafood rice... The food is salty.

2022-02-14Best place IMHO to get Fa Cai Yu Sheng in Brooklyn. Also, all the other dishes were excellent and we’ve been regulars for over a year!
