Very clean and comfortable hostel with private rooms that have a ton of character. I stay in New Paltz a few times a year and would prefer the hostel to any chain hotel. I very recently had a great experience with their customer service as well. I cant wait for my next stay.

I used to work here. Its a decent place. Its clean, Id know, I clean it. I will tell you the least often cleaned things are the comforters. Everything else is replaced after each guest. Theres wi-fi, use of a full kitchen, and student housing upstairs. Its not very glamorous but its comfortable and cheap for those only passing through New Paltz.
DO NOT BOOK ROOMS AT THIS PLACE RIGHT NOW! I tried booking one for 8/23 and they are apparently closed. Hotels.com took my money and gave me a voucher instead of refunding my money! They have the nerve to keep the hostel up for reservations when they arent even open! Sketchy.
Never stay here! Larry, the manager, is nothing short of contemptuous and arrogant. To summarize, we had someone flying up from Florida to LaGuardia at 6pm, by the time she got to New Paltz it was 10:30pm and not knowing the area she had a reservation at the Hostel which sadly was one of the only available places to stay on short notice.Unfortunately arriving past the curfew affords Larry the sick pleasure of refusing service to guests. This wasnt a 20-something year old who was drunkenly knocking at the door on a Saturday night, this was a 67-year-old woman was out of town on Saturday and didnt know where to go.When she tried to plead with him, the reply was its past curfew, the reservation was made through Expedia and I can do nothing about it. In addition, he slipped in that itd be an inconvenience to our other guests to let you in this late and hung up the phone. If that wasnt infuriating enough, Larry didnt have the human decency to attempt to look for alternate lodgings to attempt to try to help this woman. When I called this morning, Larry nonchalantly recounted the series of events and gave me the same monotone explanation regarding curfew and that the reservation was through Expedia and he had no control. What he failed to grasp, and perhaps hes blatantly oblivious to, is that he made no effort to extend hospitality to a potential guest. He saw no issue with his actions and failed to comprehend what was morally wrong with the way the situation was handled.Late Saturday night, this poor woman went back to the New Paltz Bus Station, crying because she had no idea where to go and asked to sleep inside the station at the very least. When they asked her if she tried to stay at the hostel, she recounted the entire ordeal. A cab driver was kind enough to make some calls and was able to get her a room at the Econolodge for $170.After personally experiencing the same level of indifference regarding the situation, its abundantly clear that the low cost of lodging is directly related to the lack of hospitality, integrity & empathy for a foreign traveler.

2021-11-22On multiple occasions while I was in the private room, the host would try to give tours/ show the room off. Like can you not? Im in here with all my personal belongings out. I got a private room for a reason.

2017-08-25The New Paltz Hostel is centrally located. In fact, its right next to the Trailways bus station. Its within walking distance to many of the restaurants and shops New Paltz is famous for. We stayed in a private room on the ground floor that has its own bathroom and shower. Just a single room separated from the bathroom by a door. The air conditioned room has a queen size bed and bunk bed so a family of 4 would be comfortable. There are a few parking spots in the back and on the side of the driveway - which is convenient - considering you would normally have to pay for street parking. This is a you get what you pay for kind of place: $70 per night for 2 guests, slightly more if you have additional guests. The staff is very friendly and helpful with where to go in town. There is a kitchen available until late at night if you want to make your own food. Id come back to stay here again if I needed to. Thank you for reading my review! Peace!

2018-10-21My girlfriend and I booked an Airbnb that fell through and last minute found the New Paltz hostel and it was truly a pleasant surprise. Its minutes away from campus and right on a bustling street with lots of food. The room we stayed in had a large sunflower mural with well kept beds and a bathroom with a private shower. The price was amazingly low and service was wonderful. We will definitely be staying again!

2020-02-10New Paltz Hostel feels charming (with painted murals throughout), has a nice location (next to the main bus station) and frugal traveler conviniences (fully equipped kitchen). But the combination of both long and short term guests at the hostel results in a somewhat restrictive entrance-always-locked and 10 PM curfew policy and the facility is a little dated. All in all its a decent option if youre on a budget and cant find something on Airbnb.

2017-04-13Hostel is clean and staff is nice. However there is a very annoying 10pm curfew. You will get locked out if you are not in by then. They give you no key to the building so you must ring the doorbell every time to be let in by the one staff person that is on duty from 2pm to 10pm. I loved the town however, would not stay here again because I felt I could not explore the area as I would have liked. Only having access to the hostel from 2pm-10pm is ridiculous and I believe there are many ways to change it to make it more easily accessible and inviting to travelers.

2017-11-14Stayed in a private room on the ground floor. I didnt really like how the rooms are: you basically enter the room from the bathroom (?) Otherwise its ok, clean. Towels are provided, there was even a shower gel. Whats best about the hostel is the location. Right next to the bus station!

2019-08-15Horrible place. You spend $40 to sleep on an uncomfortable bed and they treat you like a little kid by not letting you leave early or come back after 10pm. Thats absolutely insane. Dont get ripped off. Bring a tent and stay at a campsite for a fraction of the cost and be free

2018-09-30Stayed 1 night in the sunflower room. Private bathroom was impeccably clean. Room amenities - desk w/ chair, mirror, dresser, bed & bunkbeds, bedside table w/ lamp and white noise machine, ceiling fan w/ light. Towels, washcloths, body wash, hand soap, disposable earplugs, & wifi password were provided. Shared kitchen was very clean. Parking was very difficult due to the fact that I couldnt fit my car past a parked vehicle to get in the small lot, so I had to park elsewhere and walk. All in all, a great place to stay and I will be back!
