If you’re ordering just for their general tsos chicken, look elsewhere. I understand restaurants tend to make their general tso’s sauce less spicy for the general population, which is why I asked for extra spice. despite the instructions, the sauce was still plainly sweet and lacking its’ spicy counterpart. they didn’t include broccoli either, which is part of the dish. also, no flavor in the pork fried rice despite it looking appetizing.maybe their other dishes are good, but I’m not trying to find out. sorry Jimmy.
One of the best Asian restaurants in Brooklyn and you would not believe how great the prices are here. Def a first place date or family dinner. Owner is great, he is always talking to the customers to makes use everything is good with all his customers. You cant beat that. Highly recommend this place.
The quality of the food has gone down. I ordered chicken and broccoli tonight and it was so greasy that I had to dap it with napkins. The prices have soared, and they have made constant errors with my past orders. I have talked to the owner about my grievances, nice man, apologize for them. Unfortunately, after their sub par performance tonight, I will no longer be a customer.
This has to be the best Chinese food in Brooklyn period! Food is always hot n fresh and quality is way above the local ones you find in neighborhoods! And although they say delivery times are usually between 35-40 minsi always get mine in about 20-25!!! Great place!! Go check it out!!!
This place used to be really good 25 years ago, but now they cut back on some of the quality. The sweet & sour chicken is wrapped with breading filler to look like bigger chicken nuggets, while the chicken peices inside were actually small.(stringy almost ⁰tasteless dry chicken too, not juicy)The roast pork fried rice used to have huge 1/2 square chunks of pork, now the pork size is the same as most other chinese take out, 1/4 square.I was put on hold as soon as he answered & felt like he was rushing me afterwards. All business personality, almost cold, like I did something wrong. No hospitality over phone, sounded like he was either mad at something (ratings?) or just having a bad day, everyone knows if your serving the public you have to appear to be nice as it might affect your business. Then, the delivery guy(maybe it was the guy who took the order!)took $20.00 tip instead of $10.00 like I told him out loud for him to hear but he took my three $20.00 bills & gave me $10.00 back.My order was only $29.00. Real Slick. Now that I saw that past review about the huge roach, I wont be ordering from them anymore anyway. The fortune cookies were stale too, they didnt snap open just bent slowly. The positives:They still give pleanty of sauces & a fruit in the bag & yes that famous Pistatio ice cream with cherries is still awesome.
Service was very good and so was the food. I had Beef with Eggplant and truly enjoyed the meal, which, like most entrees, is served with a choice of soup and white rice. The beef was incredibly tender and tasty and the eggplant was not mushy. The pork with green beans was praised as were the other dishes eaten at our table. Hot and sour soup was tasty, slightly thicker than I like, but still very good. The steamed pork dumplings were perfect but, though tasty, the second order of dumplings were fried as opposed to pan seared. They have several reasonably priced wines by the glass as well as a few beer choices, mostly standards. The restaurant itself is comfortable, the tables are comfortably spaced, and the place is not noisy. Definitely recommend this restaurant.
Classic Chinese restaurant with standard Cantonese cooking. Service was excellent. Prices were consistent with the neighborhood. It’s impossible to park there because there are multiple restaurants and stores on this commercial strip. Food was okay although my portions of pork ribs was small. Maybe it was a piglet?
I order two or three times from this restaurant in the past few months and was very disappointed in most of their dishes. I ordered chicken lo mein there was no vegetables inside I ordered fried rice it was just a fried rice with the beef that I ordered have no vegetables in the rice at all no egg no carrots peas onions scallions. I was very disappointed the way they just stir-fried the food and gave it to you without putting the components of the recipe inside the dish. The owner was very nice but the chef in the back is not doing a great job. I will give this place one more try before I decide not to eat there anymore. Thank you
The food is tasty. The prices are reasonable. The service is friendly. Theyve been in the neighborhood forever. They even host school trips for the local public schools. They have a nice dinning area if you prefer to go out. They deliver as well. The service (for both dine in and take out) is quick. They take credit cards for dinning in but not for take out. Its a very traditional American Chinese restaurant like you remember from your childhood. The only complaint I have is just like the American Chinese restaurants from your childhood, they have the occasional cockroach climbing up the walls. Thankfully I never found one in my food. Although thats gross, Ive seen many roaches in the best restaurants in this city as well, so I only deducted one star. Overall the restaurant is clean though.
Just ordered a delicious luncheon special consisting of shrimp and broccoli with pork fried rice. I have been living in the area for 5years and this is the first time ordering. Fast service, got my food hot in 20Minutes. Thank you for your service in our uncertain times. Ruans NOW has a customer for life!
This place is a solid choice for me when in Brooklyn, for so many reasons.Food - GREAT! Ive been here numerous times, and even had 2 birthday parties hosted here. Needless to say, Ive had just about everything they have to offer. Ive loved it all, every time. They essentially take Chinese appetizers, entrees, and even group platters, and then add an artistic presentation.Drinks - What can I say? They have it all. Anything I could think of getting, they have. They also have a FANTASTIC set of house drinks that can satisfy a diverse range of tastes. Its a small bar, so they dont carry EVERYTHING, and they dont have seating for more than 3 or so at the bar, but this isnt supposed to be a bar... So dont come here if youre looking for a watering hole that also serves good food.Service - Exceptional. Im never there waiting for some attention, a refill, or a recommendation from the helpful staff. Id say theyre the biggest reason I come back. It would be hard for me to believe that anybody could have a bad experience here.
Real old school Chinese place. Authentic Chinese American food with white glove service. Well mixed cocktails, fresh seafood, and well prepared steaks. The staff is attentive and have personalities. Great for a night out for two or a big family gathering. Call in advance for larger parties.
Always a great experience here. Staff is always nice and food is as fresh as youll get in any Chinese restaurant.I only eat vegan foods ( well, when you eat out, you never know 100% if its vegan or not, as I found out with Cicis recently 😩) and have to be creative.I asked them to make me sweet and sour mixed vegetables. The look on the waiters face was priceless. Kind of like if you went into an Italian restaurant and asked for ketchup on pasta 🍝 😂Not that Ive done it, but Italians dont like you to experiment with their foods. What I like best about this place is their service.Keeping it real, Chinese food is Chinese food and only slightly differs, in my opinion. If you want a nice looking place that treats you well, heres the place for you.A little romantic also, if youre looking for that.2 thumbs up!
This is a wonderful establishment with great food and service. Great for small (40 ppl) parties with well stocked bar. Every dish is delicious and carefully prepared. My favorite is the Chicken and Broccoli, it is probably their number one selling dish. They also offer take out.
Just ordered tonight. Wow what great Chinese food. Everything came packaged very nicely and food was very fresh! The boneless spare ribs could have used some sauce. But it was still good. Wonton soup, Lol mein and pork fried rice was amazing. Love that they give you a navel orange!
Now just take out. Very nice and clean. For some perfect place you can trust. Great for couples , sports events, bdays. Youll see alot of neighborhood old timers that religiously go there. Rare to see drinks and very good chineese. Open 3 decades. Family owned. Alcohol bar. Right off the train on famous 86st in brooklyn
Okay so... I liked Ruans. Great people that work there. They are on point with delivery. They offer fruit with your deliveries etc. However, for the first time ever... I ordered a plain lomein and found a huge roach in it. There was no denying it was a roach, you clearly saw its antennas and retracted legs. Anyway, I called up the restaurant and told the guy to let him know as a courtesy thing and he hung up on me. I wasnt looking for money back or more food, just wanted to let him know... hey... check your kitchen there was extra protein in my meal. YUCK. Needless to say we threw away an entire $60 order.
Unsuspecting but tasty restaurant on 86th Street. Ive driven by a million times without noticing it, but Im glad I finally stopped in! It was pretty cheap for the amount of food that came out, and everyone at my table thorougly enjoyed their food. The Shanghai Rice Cake Soup was a very interesting combination of textures, and the Chicken Three Flavor is a very versatile dish that can absolutely be shared between two or even three people.
I would say the best chinese restaurant I ever ate in my entire life! Jimmy and Donald are the nicest owners u can ever conversate with. Fast service...waiters are very friendly!. U must try their steak! Yes their steak from the grill. Aged out of this world meat. I had their newest steak a couple weeks back..beleive it was $35. Oh my lord! Best steak I had in a very long time! Thank you so much for creating such an awsome experience. From a good customer Keith
Everything was good the chicken and broccoli and all of the dishes Ive ever gotten has been enjoyable service is attentive as long as the restaurant isnt full which isnt that often the prices are comparable to any other Chinese restaurant also this place serves old time Brooklyn Cantonese as well as some different style Chinese food I highly recommend this establishment

2021-07-24Rating this solely on delivery. Best Chinese food in the area. Very quick and efficient. The food is amazing. Great portion size, the chicken is so crispy, & flavorful. I love how they give oranges in every delivery. It’s pretty cool and different. I highly recommend the general Tso Chicken, & Shrimp with Broccoli in garlic Sauce, both with egg fried rice.

2021-10-24Food was amazing and service was excellent. The bird and rose were made out of 1 carrot each and was absolutely beautiful. They have both indoor and outdoor dinning. I would highly recommend on trying this place if you never been.

2022-03-06Ordered take out last night for family of 4. Paid full price for full meal of 4 people (2 adults and two kids) which was expected as we didnt order lunch take out meal during lunch time. We received small 4 portions in the size of small one half size containers for 4 people as if it was lunch time and taste was bland to our great disappointment. We were surprised that even Lo Mein came in bland (how can you even screw up Lo Mein). It took us a while to figure out which meal was what as all tasted the same and bland although weve ordered very different 4 meals but weve got an orange fruit in addition to go. Soup was half the size of the small portion. Thank you for that! Not ordering from them again, even a semi OK regular Chinese take out (Not even a fancy one) usually can make meals up to par. We were looking to do a Chinese take out as we havent done it in a long time due to pandemic. Thanks for ruining it!
