I live in Tampa, Fl, in order for me to maintain Health Insurance coverage thru my spouse employer for Dependent Eligibility Verification purpose, I need to submit a few documents to them. One being our marriage certificate, I mailed a certified return receipt requested with all the information that was requested and someone signed for it because the stub was mailed back to me. October 19th, 2020 is the deadline to submit the necessary documents to maintain health insurance coverage. This was a few weeks ago, I have called over 150 times since Friday of last week and no one picks up the phone, I sent an email thru the website and no answer. Ill seek legal counsel against NYC Marriage Bureau if I lose my health insurance coverage.

We had a fast wedding, and it was perfect! One thing to note is that everyone must be present to go in and wait in line. There are no reservations; its on a first come, first-served basis. The ceremony takes about 5 min, but they give you some extra time to take pics. We were in and out and headed to the airport to travel to Bali right after. We got married on a Monday at about 12:30 pm. The wait time was about 30 min.
It is unbelievably heartbreaking how inefficient your records department is due to covid. I needed a copy of my extended Marriage Certificate to complete documents for my newborn son and i had to wait more than 2 weeks just to get a copy. A simple copy cost me over $100 and a 2 + week wait. BTW I still dont have the copy.
The experience on cupid was very good. We are still awaiting our marriage certificate. Married on Dec 12, 2020. No one answers the phone. I cannot be added to my husbands health insurance because I need my marriage certificate. No one responds back on phone or email... Now what?
Ive paid for my marriage license and cant seem to get an appointment date more than 3 weeks now . Whoever is answering the calls at the office is extremely rude and unprofessional, all she said is check on Mondays, even when I told her I have been . This is most frustrating!
I have an appointment virtually at 1pm with a city clerk, The confirmation code that was emailed to me, can not be found when I try to log online on their project cupid website. No one is answering phone calls, I called the Brooklyn and the Manhattan office to obtain some kind of help. and I have gotten nowhere. This is so unprofessional. keep in mind the fee was already paid for.
The wait can be long but aside from that everything went well. Make certain you know what to bring because its really not their job to accommodate you. I had my bouquet and a few friends and we actually had a good time with everyone there. They were friendly and answered all of our questions.
I got married here to my partner. Dont expect a nice insta-worthy interior and the wait to get your license could take a bit, but I have to say very efficient and relatively friendly service-wise. During ceremony day, surprised that it only took us less than 15 minutes from the time we walked in, to when we exchanged I dos. Loved the experience. Highly recommended.
Worst experience ever! I know theres a pandemic happening and we do understand the closing of their office today. But at least they should have announced that like 2 or 3 days ago. You wasted peoples time and you did not make them prepare and look for other options of getting married especially those who are in danger of having an expired visa like the k1. So ridiculous!
These people are determined to not answer the phone! I tried calling for days at various times and nobody would ever answer. Still needing an answer to my question, I had no choice but to go in-person and talk to someone.Of course the individual I spoke with was so incredibly mean and offended I would even come in asking about my particular question (didn’t get her name but she was manning station 11 at 9am on Dec 9). In short, she just stared at me until I walked away.If you guys just answered the phone you could make both clients and your staff happier, jeez! Two stars because it seemed like the actual wedding ceremonies were being moved efficiently.
Before getting married here, I did extensive research and read just about every review to be prepared. I got married in January, not a very popular time as it is winter. However, it was the Friday of MLK weekend. You receive a ticket when you arrive and wait for your number to be called. We arrived around 11:30am and had a 2 hour wait. I would suggest going as early as possible. Also, you are allowed to bring food and drink so have a snack and water at least for the long wait! The rooms where you are married are a little tacky, but I wasnt expecting after the reviews I read.
Okay.... If you read my first review, it tells you all about how I was mistreated and fought the clerk over a surname change, which I was right in the end. I thought, okay, besides her rudeness everything was pleasant, but since then more issues have occurred. So the original 3 star is now a 1 star or a 0 star if possible. Other issues since then are:My husband and I went to this location to get married, When we went into the chapel, the woman asked for both of our rings, including my engagement ring. So all I was did was showed her which wedding band my engagement ring went with and she rudely blurted out, Can you let me do my job!?!?... What the heck!? I was just showing you which rings belong together. What the heck, I said it nicely too, I literally said happily This ring goes with that one, a smile on my face and she started flipping out. I then said okay hurt and confused how she could be so rude. Ruining MY day. If anything, I was helping her do her job so she doesnt put the wrong rings together. B-Word.Besides that my dad was taking some pictures and she yelled at him and rushed out saying there was a lot of people waiting.. We werent in there for more than 6 minutes and there was 1 more family behind us, ONE. So she didnt have to be such a B-word. It pretty much ruined the ceremony, something you cant take back.Besides that, Its hell to get anyone to pick up the phone. Its either got a busy signal or it keeps ringing.
We have sent licenses in to this office when we marry couples. Kimberlys Blessings has successfully married Hundreds of Couples. We have found the employees in this office to be helpful and courteous. Let us know if we can be of further assistance, or if you have any questions about your wedding and this office. Highly recommended
The marriage bureau told us that they had mailed out our marriage certificate. When it didnt show up weeks after the allotted time, we went to the office. The employee said that the office had mailed it and there was nothing they could do for us. If we wanted the marriage certificate, we had to pay them again. We explained that we didnt lose it, but we had never received it. The supervisor was one of the worst people Ive ever dealt with. She had no empathy and proceeded to berate us and told us we could just leave. If you can get married anywhere else, you should.
A+++ would elope again. But seriously, the other reviewer who said this is the happiest government office ever was right on. So was the one who praised their officiant; the guy who performed our ceremony brought amazing on-the-spot gravitas in a way that was somehow dead serious and gentle and kind all at once. Plus at $25 for the license and $35 for the ceremony (with a mandatory 24-hour wait in between) it beats the hell out of any other marriage arrangements I can think of. Just dont forget a witness and maybe dont have to wheedle them past security at the last possible minute.
We went on a Friday. They didnt open the building doors until 8, so our 7:55 arrival meant waiting 5 minutes outside. Once they let us in, we were formed into a queue. There were about 6 couples there all together. By 8:10 there were about 30 couples there! We were very happy we got there early. We had filled out the online form, so at 8:30 when we were getting our ticket, we were able to by-pass the computer screen kiosk. We were number 004, so we had to wait a very short amount of time before our number was called. We spent the time there looking at the little shop. After our number was called the time with the teller was about 10 minutes. We were out before 8:45, a painless process!
What can I say, its a government office. However, our designated bureaucrat was friendly, gave us knowing smiles, etc. We do think our easy time was owed to being there VERY early though. We showed up at 7:45AM on a Wednesday with the doors opening at 8:30. Even at 8:15, with the doors not even open, the line was out the lobby of the building and into the street.Definitely come early, and on an off-day. Otherwise, you will be waiting a LONG time.
I was registering as a marriage officiant from out of state in NYC. Online states it could be up to three weeks for approval after they receive your documents however I received my certificate of registration within a week of mailing in my documents from Colorado! I could not be happier with my experience so far!
Prepared wedding online , showed up at the bureau on 9th June, took a ticket, met lady behind counter...in and out in 30 min , had to wait 24 hours for the wedding foolishly thought it would be just as quick..nope!! The 10th of June was a Friday ..HUGE crowd ... (apparently Fridays are very busy !?) 4 hours waiting for a 10 min service..admittedly some was our fault..after getting ticket again ..waiting our turn ..meeting another lady..who told us to go to station 5 which we did , but we didnt know we had to inform the clerk at that station that we were there,so 30 minutes wasted, but there you go ....altogether a brilliant experience and wouldnt change a thing...except we came from Ireland and to get the licence recognised in our country we then had to go another room to get the licence verified which took an hour in a queue then to the Supreme Court for verification of that signature plus 3 dollars cash ( another queue ) then finally to 130 William Street ,a few blocks away to get another licence another 10 dollars and 1 and half hour queue (Make sure you get a money order from post office, nothing else is acceptable )...all in all very beurocratic but very memorable and again I WOULDNT CHANGE A THING!!! Enjoy your day and I hope this helps somewhat..ps BOAZ (you know who you are!!)thanks for being a great witness and best of luck for your future with the beautiful Erin.
Understaffed! We waited over two hours on Friday right after the Thanksgiving to get married. The place was jammed with couples trying to get married. They had only one ceremony official even though there are two chapels. This is a most popular marriage bureau in NYC. It was shocking to learn that it is so poorly managed and supervised.
I have been trying to call the City Clerk Marriage office from out of town about an obtaining an older certificate application for several weeks and it is impossible to get through. Yes I mailed in the request 8 weeks ago with payment. Either very under staffed or just leaving the phone off the hook. Suspect the later
The Manhattan buildings interior is stylized & elegant, for a city admin building. NYC holds marriage in high regard, it seems, that it put the amount of work in that it did, to make a nice presentation. As another commenter said, it is understaffed, but I attribute that to having had wildly trending & expanding popularity.
Walked in on a Tuesday Jan. 22 .. to get a marriage license and one would consider the happiness and importance to the individuals who are walking in except for one information counter clerk attitude, towards people who asked her questions, at one point I was trying to help a individual who needed a Spanish translator and she heard them speak a little english and states to me “seems like she’s ok” .. So unprofessional and absolutely not meant for the job where people in NYC need guidance.
Big issue!!!!! There are 4 options to change your surname on your marriage application. My fiancé and I chose to combine our last names into 1. Example: Donald and Conner = Doncon. She kept telling me this isnt allowed and we would have to go to court to get this done. I exclaimed that it says it right on your own website that its allowed and she kept shaking her head no and she had the audacity to tell ME that I wasnt listening to her. She was saying how I misunderstood and being rude to me, she showed me examples of what she thought was right, I told her thats wrong. I was listening but she wasnt listening to me. I asked for the manager and she talked to him in the distance ( even though I asked to speak to him personally) she came back like a dog with its tails between their legs and quietly changed our new surname to the combined one, (Doncon) while eating her words, her dignity crumbling with each letter typed into the keyboard. haha that was so sweet. Its messed up how she didnt even know the rules at her own job and it breaks my heart to think of how many people she screwed over. Stick to your guns people. You CAN combine your name into one unique name. She couldnt even look at me because she knew she was wrong. She didnt apologize for being rude. Im glad I could teach her a lesson. What a joyous event had to be turned into a dispute over her ignorance. Other than that, that place was actually decent. Besides her, friendly staff. It was great. I would recommend this place, just know your rights before you head up there. Fought city hall, literally. Haha ps: Doncon is just an example
If you want to marry in New York .. then you have come to the right place !! This is the registry office of NY!Do not expect too much! Its more of a mass processing and the wedding itself, with the registrar took only a few seconds 😆 but my husband and I knew this before and that was why it was no problem for us! We deliberately chose this type of wedding because we wanted to marry all on our own, without anyone, and it was so beautiful! 🥰Can recommend it to anyone who wants to marry without family, friends and best man! Here for you our process:1.) We filled out an online form a few weeks before and sent it off! (directly on the page of the registry office)2.) in cash 24 hours before your desired appointment in the registry office with your ID cards and $ 35 in cash appear (best as early as possible to avoid long waiting times)3.) after the 24 hours back to the registry office but this time is your big day and you are perfectly dressed! Now you just have to draw a number and wait until you are called!Watch out! On the day of the wedding you need at least one witness! There are several photographers on site who would like to take over for you, for a small compensation! So no problem!Should you still need an apostille? Can you apply for the wedding after a request and do it all the same, or the next day in peace! The other building where you have to have the apostille authenticated is all within walking distance 😉All the best and may your marriages last forever 👰🏻❤️🤵🏻♾

2021-08-25Incredibly rude. I have emailed and called numerous times since 2020 to see what I need to obtain my mother’s marriage certificate (she lives abroad and needs it for immigration purposes) and every time I called, NO ONE was able to tell me what I needed. Every time I’d call, they would say “I don’t know”, “Just look at the website” or “just email them”. I have emailed and NO ONE has responded. I sent the form to request the marriage certificate along with documentation through mail with proof as to why I need it along with documentation that proves that I’m the daughter (since no one was able to tell me EXACTLY what I needed) and my request got rejected. I went in person with all documentation that proves why I need the marriage certificate for my mother and they didn’t even bother to listen to me. They kept interrupting me and didn’t even look at the documents that I had with me as proof. They just kept handing me the same paper over and over again and were clearly in a rush to get me out of there. They were very unprofessional, unresponsive and utterly unhelpful with no willingness to help me solve this issue. I understand that I need something written from my mother authorizing me to get the marriage certificate but WHY WAS NO ONE ABLE TO TELL ME THAT BEFORE OVER THE PHONE? I have been calling and asking for information for over SIX MONTHS! I am dealing with a time sensitive immigration process with my mother and they were unable to work something out with me.The pictures below show that they handed me the same exact document three times and didn’t even realize it because they were in such a rush to get me out of there. The other picture is to show that they didn’t even want to listen to what I had to say and just handed me the form to request the marriage certificate although I already had that filled out.

2022-07-06I just called the Manhattan location and spoke to Jacqueline who was the sweetest person ever! Not only was she sweet, but she was so helpful. I had a concern about our marriage certificate and ceremony appointment being so close together, and she put my fears at ease. Please dont listen to the negative reviews. They DO answer the phone and they DO help, and they are NOT rude. Thank you Jacqueline! You made my day :)

2022-04-04This experience was incredibly stressful but ended up working out in the end so I wanted to let other people know. I needed a copy of my marriage records for immigration purposes. I submitted by mail my request on Feb. 4th and received my marriage records exactly six weeks later on March 18th. I was never able to get ahold of them via phone (I called probably 100 times) or by email or twitter. They did eventually respond to a request sent online after two weeks but by then I already received the records. So for people that are stressed thinking they cant get their records, they are processing them it will take about 6 weeks. If you are able to fly there and get it taken care of in person that seems to be the way to go, through Project Cupid you can find appointments and cancellations throughout the week.

2022-05-13Omg! The staff and the Court Police here were so great on 4/27/2022. My husband and I had a 3:30 appt for our ceremony and like any other woman...I was running late. My husband and our witness were on the inside waiting on me to arrive. Where was I you ask? Stuck in traffic still in Brooklyn trying to get to the Brooklyn Bridge. Now the last appt for this place is at 3:45 and then they lock the place up like Fort Knox 😒. Well they waited for me till the very last minute, I mean the staff clocks out at 4pm and I pulled up to the court house at 3:59. They allowed us to have our ceremony and I am eternally grateful to the officers who gave us the opportunity to make it there when they didnt have to and the staff for making our day possible. Love really does conquer all....even time. ❤

2022-05-07My Wife and I were married here, its worth the trip to the city I have been to the Queens Marriage Bureau and while that ones nice with the old ⑦ Train and all, I still prefer this Manhattan one over the Queens location & the pictures in front are grand!💒

2020-02-06I cannot believe how quickly and easily the process went here--both for applying for the marriage license and for getting married (we returned exactly one week later). The first step is to go through metal detectors and run your bags through the x-ray machine, and that was one of the longest waits--and it was not long. Be ready with your whole party before you go in for your wedding because once you get your number it can go quickly. We were called up to the window to pay and fill out the paperwork within 20 minutes of arriving at 10am on a Thursday in December (and it was 12/12, which some had warned me might be a special date that others would want). All told we were probably done in 40 minutes, and we took our time taking photos in front of the City Hall backdrop thats there. The general mood is good and of course the others there with you are in good spirits too! Highly recommend.

2022-04-18Just wish someone would pick up the phone. Not only are their people with questions ...there are also officiants with questions. Some of us want to do the right thing but need some guidance in doing so. if you dont pick up the phone and all the answers are NOT on the website...then what do we do?

2022-04-26I have called this office so many times over the last month and not once has anyone picked up the phone. I tried email, but that, too, was ignored.

2021-10-25Has anyone recently able to get any appointments? When do they open up new appointment? I tried to get my marriage license appointment but didn’t work. I got it in oyster bay in the end. Now I am trying to get appointment for marriage ceremony but can find any appointment either. Anyone have any idea?
