USPS lost passport in the mail. Flight leaves in 3 days!!!!There’s no appointments available on the entire ENTIRE EAST COAST.They changed from online appointments to phone “to better help people who need urgent appointments.” Neither process has affectively offered the type of relief they suggest.Tried going in person and couldn’t even get in the door to explain situation. This wouldn’t be so disappointing if it were negligence on my part. This is out of my hands and no real help in sight.
I just left from curbside Hudson agency in NYC. Officer Robinson does not allow anybody to step in the building without an appointment. I kept begging him and customer service woman over the phone while standing right there by the door freezing myself physically and emotionally speaking about my urgency to travel, travel information provided, confirmation number provided along with my booked San Juan Puerto Rico agency for Tuesday, March 1, at 9:30 am. I called ahead of time to schedule, they said it was too early, I had to call back. When, doing so, no availability. They said San Diego, CA only. I said I could better go to US Embassy in Mexico City. I kept trying online, nothing among official passports agencies or USPS locations. I kept dialing 877 number until I finally took the current PR appointment, the representative did not have San Diego, only San Juan and Hawaii. I kept trying online and over the phone with all different representatives. I walked in USPS offices believing there could be a solution for my early morning international flight on March 5, 2022, family emergency. A very nice, human and mindful USPS female employee told me to take a chance at Hudson office. But Mr. Officer concrete wall Robinson denied me access saying he could lost his job and needed to feed two women and ten children. Lets be clear, me, a taxpayer, I am contributing to your paychecks, you all, Mr. Robinson and high-ranked staff and deputy chiefs. I still called 877 number while being outside asking for some mindfulness from female representative over the phone and Mr. Robinson who was across from me holding the door. I just asked for an appointment to be able to step into the building and talk to somebody, if that person inside building saying no, fine with me, but the woman over the phone told me she had an appointment in Seattle. I replied I already have Puerto Rico, I just want you, who are in charge of scheduling, to let me in. Another concrete wall over the phone. The end of the story: flying to Puerto Rico!!! My third world countries agencies have more mindfulness than you, NYC passport agency, the capital of the world! Really??? Forced to give you one star, you deserved minus five stars!
We were traveling internationally with our 4 kids and learned of the 6 month validity rule 5 days before our flight. 3 of our kids did not meet the 6 month validity requirement, and would not be able to enter the country we were traveling too. After numerous attempts to get an appointment (since everything was booked), they got me in on a cancellation 4 days prior to our flight. We went today at 7:30am and walked out the door at 12:30pm with 3 new passports! Thank you SOOO much!! Great agency!!!!
I wish I could give them a 0 star. Whoever manages this place they really need to invest money and time training their workers in how to speak to their customers! Never heard such a rude talking representatives. Such a shame! Moreover they are so dumb they dont even know that there is country named Georgia and they have written my birth place in the passport Georgia, USA.
My flight is on 6/1/2022. I submitted the application for my passport on 04/26/22 which was received at the agency on 4/29/22 and begin processing. Upon applying, I paid for expedited service plus overnight delivery to the agency and overnight delivery from the agency to me. I received my passport on 5/21/22 just in time for my trip! Thank you.
Fill out your paperwork before hand, double check everything, the ask someone else to double check everything & you’ll leave with your passport.Expect to wait. Expect to worry. It’s rough for those with young families, they do let young children in with food, milk etc But not teens. There’s no snack or vending machines. One disappointing water fountain. Eat before you go.We have our passports, & I’m grateful that I was able to get them the Friday before my July 4th 7am flight.
Getting regular is backed up etc and they tell you not to call expedited service until 14 days prior …you call 14 days prior they say nothing in whole USA they don’t tell you that you can try to call again in case a cancellation!!! We kept calling and got Dallss then nothing then Hawaii the. San Diego and we’re in NY/ Pa area they made sure our 1 yr old didn’t go with us on the trip
This review is a request for federal passport agencies to accept walk-ins for people with proof of urgent travel in the next few days. Months have passed since the majority of COVID restrictions have been removed due to declining cases and many people are traveling globally without tests required or any Covid restrictions.
You can no longer book appointments online. I didnt think it was difficult for an American citizen to get their passport. I called at 8 am like I was told two weeks prior to my flight and the only they have available is in Boston, and I am in NYC. Horrible service honestly, they need to work out a better system.
I called to make an appt for an expedited passport renewal so I could travel to Spain to visit a sick family member. They told me I needed to have a flight confirmation in order to make an appt, and wouldnt tell me if there were any availabilities if I were to travel this Friday. I said I didnt want to buy a flight if I wasnt going to be able to make an appt, and the person on the phone very rudely said they would only let me know if there were available appts once I had a flight confirmation. I took the risk and bought my flights and called back, only to be told there arent any appointments available for the next two weeks. Now I have paid-for flights that I cant make because they wouldnt just tell me whether they had any appointments. I am incredibly disappointed and stressed out, and worried I wont be able to see my sick family in time.
I am not usually the person that writes reviews on every single occasion but I felt the necessity to put together this note out of fairness. When I read first the reviews on the page, I was extremely concerned considering the complex situation I was facing. The appointment was taken without significant challenges; I admit that they are not the most flexible over the phone but I can understand their approach considering the immense demand on appointments. We postulated half an hour before, waited until we were admitted on time and went through the smoothest process. The ladies at the passport agency are extremely polite, sincere and helpful. They show respect, care and a great will to support. They are simply amazing. Three hours after, i passed by to pick up the passports which went seamlessly.Thank you for being that professional and sincere. You make a difference. In people’s lives. We are grateful.
I never thought Id be giving a 5 star review for a government run agency, but somehow this one was different. The security guard in the front is what you would expect from government employees. Its as if he gets paid extra to be rude and nasty to people. Because I feel like its worth it, Im going to break down the experience:- Waiting in the freezing cold - We arrived at 8:25 for an 8:30 appointment and waited outside while the security guard asked everyone for their confirmation number and name. If you didnt have an 8:30 am appointment, GET THE F OUT- Once you get in, you have to go through security. Imagine the airport, but less painful. No shoesbelts etc. Simply put your stuff on the belt and walk through- then we wait on a line. There were 3 open windows so, the line went quickly.- The first window is basically checking that you have everything you need. They asked for proof of travel, which was NOT on any of the requirement lists, so I didnt have it. NO PROBLEM. Just email it to this address and go upstairs. SWEET! Done.- Now you have to take the elevator to the 10th floor and wait for your number to be called. I always imagine the end of Beetlejuice or the DMV...but our number was called within 2 minutes.- Now the fun starts. We were here to renew my daughters passport as it expired. We were not there for anything else because no on elses passport expires until later this year. The lady (whose name I wish I noted), noticed on my passport that it expires in March and they wouldnt let me board either! I FREAKED. I didnt prepare any documentation for myself, only my daughter. No photo, no forms, nothing. What do I do now????? She says...NO PROBLEM. Just fill this out. Well take your picture. Just pay for your passport too and well do both. WOW!!!!!!!! I asked if they accept tips....they dont. I wanted to hug her. She will never truly understand how thankful I am. This definitely could have been a disaster, and was an overall great experience.- 3-4 hours later, come back and pick up your passport. Only down side of this....you have to go through the security guy at the front door again. No one should have to deal with him twice. My recommendation....check your passport often and renew by mail....but if you have to get it last minute...this is the place to do it. Once you get passed grumpy security man, its a breeze.
I called exactly at 8 AM two weeks before my flight and was only able to get an 8 AM appointment on the same day as my early afternoon flight. I was worried but I decided to try and as a backup, also booked an appointment at the US embassy at my destination for the next day. I lined up early the day of and everything was processed by 8:15 AM. They told me I could either wait there or come back in 2-3 hours to collect. I got coffee at a cafe and returned at around 10:30 and it was ready! I went straight to the airport after. It was stressful but everything worked out well for me and all the staff there were very courteous.
My husband recently became a citizen since before he was sworn in he was calling for an appointment. And since our flight is for the 20th of this month they told me to call 2 weeks before on the 7th that was yesterday, because I tell you that there is no appointment, well the point that those flights have been bought since February, they are vacations sounded by We have not gone to our country for a long time and my husbands mother is very ill. We do not know if we will see her again next year, my children were so happy and now everything has not collapsed, please help us. a very sad family.
How do i get an appointment. I leave in less than 2 weeks....OMG I feel like crying...my anxiety is through the roof. I am calling all times of the day just to be told they do not have any appointments available. Then why ask us to call two weeks prior...so frustrating
Forget trying to get an expedited passport. They only let you try to make an appointment 2 weeks from travel date and then tell you there are no appointments left in your state. I could get an appointment in New Orleans and I live in NYC. Its a scam that then sends you to a Private Agency who will get your passport for $799 in addition to the govt. fee. Outrageous.
This is by far the most obnoxious federal please I have visited. The workers by the door is rude and have no customer service manners, they do not know how to talk to a woman their attitude is so nasty. I was late 5 mins and they did not let me in the building with a new born baby in my hand and freezing rain.
Thankful & grateful enough to have been able to secure an appointment for my boyfriend. However, it was not easy! I’m giving this process a 1 star because there just needs to be a much more effective & convenient way to this process. For one, you have to schedule an appointment literally 14 days from your actual travel date. Then that appointment has to be at least within 3 days prior to your travel date. Getting on the phone with someone is nearly impossible unless you call for an hour straight non stop. I believe the dial options you have to select is 13111. Appointment dates & times are released every day at midnight for the next two weeks from that date you are trying to book an appointment. However, you are likely to not be able to actually get through to scheduling anything at midnight. The time that almost worked for me was 5:03AM. BUT, it is high key important that you are signed into your email address in a separate tab. When you get to the screen that says “no available appointments” or whatever do not believe it!! Just hit okay & keep refreshing. I recommend you enter all credentials necessary at 4:58AM & refresh until you see an available appointment. At 5:03AM I was able to see the agency become available to select & it showed me dates & times. However, I ended up missing it. Once you select a date & time it’ll ask you to list basic info such as name, phone number, & email. They’ll then send you a confirmation code to your email that you at that point must type into a box to secure & finalize your appointment. I didn’t have my boyfriends email open in a separate tab & therefore took to long to type it in when he finally did read it to me. So I tried again at 6:00AM & at 6:10AM it allowed me to select the agency to schedule an appointment. This time I was prepared with my boyfriends email address in a separate tab where I was able to simply copy & paste it & secure our appointment! It’s a lot of pressure & you have to move fast otherwise you will lose your appointment. Also you have to be patient enough to sit there & constantly refresh the page.
Important info: I expected the worse from this place from the reviews. Especially since I overslept and showed up at 7:45am to a line wrapped around the corner. It went incredibly fast because I came prepared. I was in at around 8:30 and was out at 9:45, with a time to pick up my passport.I printed the passport application generated online at travel.gov and carefully went over all the required documents necessary with the application.Dont wait to get to the long line to fill everything out. Fill out the application and print it out. Carefully go over all the required documents and make sure theyre all together in a folder so you dont have to waste your time shuffling through papers or forgetting something. Everything will go smoothly.Id like to note that I was done before more than a couple people with appointments. I didnt have an appointment.Update: My passport was ready for pick up the next morning at 9am.
I just want to say I am so disappointed with this whole agency and the system right now. It’s absolutely absurd the way that people are not able to receive their passports during this hectic time. I called the agency and all they said to me continuously was to keep checking the website for appointments. When you go onto the website appointments are absolutely impossible, and their suggestions are to stay on it all day and keep refreshing the page since appointments are “first come first serve”. We’re all working people who are busy with our lives and can’t sit on a site all day that won’t even guarantee an appointment. After not being able to reserve an appointment I headed to agency itself in Manhattan thinking somebody would sympathize and understand my situation however this was not the case. I stood on line from 7 am to 11 am and that line consisted of people with emergencies and situations where they needed their passports urgently. Nobody who didn’t have an appointment couldn’t walk in. People waited for weeks for their expedited passports from months ago and still couldn’t’ receive any help. It’s ridiculous! It’s really sad what this has turned into. And now appointments aren’t even able for people to make and I have to be on hold for hours to speak to a representative. It’s frustrating when people are at risk for losing money and the opportunity to enjoy a vacation or head to an emergency.
Sharing my experience to better assist others during stressful times.Initially, I had booked my trip about a month in advance and intended on simply waiting for my passport through expedited service. After calling my local post office, I was told that even expedited passports are taking about 10 weeks to arrive(more than a month). Considering my trip was a month away, this was not an option at all.I then began further researching options and called the NY Passport Agency. I was told I had to call exactly 14 days before (not including weekend since they’re closed) to be able to qualify for JUST the appointment. I made sure to call two days before I reached my 14 day mark to confirm exactly what day I should call. The phone lines open at 8AM on the dot. I was on the phone with the operator at 7:59AM so by the time I was transferred it would be 8AM. Make sure you’re doing the same as the appointment are extremely limited and there’s thousands of people calling with just a few hundred appointments available. Even calling at 7:59 AM I was on hold for about 15/20 minutes. After speaking with a representative I was able to secure an appointment time at 8AM 72hrs before my trip.I arrived 15 minutes early (which didn’t really make much of a difference) and waited till the clock struck 8AM. To get inside the building you must provide the last 4 digits of the appointment confirmation # that is sent to your when you call in. No appointment, no entry. They were very strict about this. When walking in, you must pass through metal detectors(no pepper spray or any knives of any kind). After this, I was sent directly to an employee which took all my necessary documents and sent me upstairs for payment and review of my application. This took no more than 15 minutes. Once that was done, I was told to come back in three hours. I live pretty far away so I just sat in the Starbucks across the street. After the three hours were done, I came back, went through security, and went straight upstairs to pick up my passport (less than 5 minutes).Considering how stressed you may be, this process was super easy and straight forward. The hardest part is landing an appointment. The workers were all courteous and very efficient. They have an organized system set up to make it as easy as possible, as long as you follow all the guidelines pertaining to documents needed, you should be fine.
Just went through the emergency renewal process for tourism travel and figured I’d share the experience since there doesn’t seem to be a lot of updated info here. YMMV here but this was how it went down for me.TLDR - If you call and make an appointment exactly two weeks before you shouldn’t have to worry. The process was painless. Getting the appointment is the hardest partI called a couple days before my two week time frame and confirmed with the agent on the phone what exact day I should call to ensure I wouldn’t miss the window. They were nice and super helpfulThe day of, I called in right when the clock struck 8am(when the phone line opens), you have to be pretty fast since there are a limited number of slots (I think like only a couple hundred a day). Even calling at 8am on the dot I waited on hold for ~20 minutesMy flight was at 11pm so they gave me an 830am appointment the same day which I was a bit worried about but it ended up being okay. Seems like if you have a later flight they’ll give you the passport same day. If you have an early flight they might book you 1-2 days before. (I’m deducing this from how I saw the process go and read online)Day of I showed up at 8am thinking if I was early it would be helpful, but it didn’t matter. They let everyone 15 minutes before your appointment time. I was let in at 8:15, went right to the desk with my paperwork, the person behind the window helped me promptly, took my information and sent me upstairs to pay. Went upstairs, no line again. They took my documents, paid with card and I left. They told me to come back in about 3 hours. I think I spent less than 10 minutes inside as there was no line for any windowI came back around 11:30am, waited on line to be let in at the 15 minute mark and went right to the 10th floor. My passport was there waiting for me and I was out in less than 5 minutes.Once I had an appointment the process was so easy. This is probably the only properly functioning branch of the US government.I write this to you from Italy, a place I did not think I’d make it to when I found out my passport expired, so don’t stress out about it too much. Anyway. Good luck and safe travels! Hope this helps
Great and smooth Service!Let me share my experience, I’ve a newborn baby and i missed to book online appointment. I read all the reviews here and it helped me a lot to do Walk In because my flight was next day.I went at 7AM the queue was very small and left my wife and daughter at Starbucks cause it was cold(opposite to the building) till 7:30 then we all were in On time, proceeded to the information disk and showed them my itinerary and they checked all my documents, then sent me to the 10th floor where i only waited around 15 min and they told me to come pickup after 3~4 hoursThe whole process took around 45 minutes! And i came after 5 hours picked the passport and was ready and all good :)Documents needed for newborn:- Birth Certificate + Copy- 2 Child Photo- Father Passport + Copy- Mother Passport + Copy- DS-11 FormHope this help!
You can’t get an appointment with this agency. They told me that in order to get an appointment I needed to call 14 days before my flight. When I called it was not appointment available and the only day available was the same day of my flight 4 hours driving from NYC to BOSTON. Horrible customer services too. I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT
Something strange going on 12am tonight a whole bunch of appointments popped up, but when I tried to secure one 1 second later they mysteriously disappeared. I believe a third-party private passport agency is obtaining theses much needed appointments and selling them for petty cash. I been trying to obtain a appointment for over a month now. I canceled my trip twice already. They saying short staff, but night clubs, movie theaters open. Everything is back to normal, but I cant get a passport appointment, because nobody forcing the staff to go back to work. This is ridiculous!
Employees and security guard were/ are incompetent and rude, didn’t seem to understand that there had been a policy change so the place THEY WORKED FOR ( 5 day rule) and refused service even after I was told multiple times on the phone prior to my appointment that I would be able to get my passport.
Unfortunately, you MUST have an appointment to be seen -- they are adamant about not taking walk-ins. As other reviews describe, you can MAYBE schedule an appointment online starting 2 weeks from your travel date, but it is tough -- you have to keep refreshing, and even if you get one you might have to travel to a distant city. I wasnt able to make an appointment, and tried to go anyway, but frankly it was a waste of time. That said, I highly recommend reaching out to your local congressperson -- if you have already started the process, they can contact the agency where your application is being processed, and speed it up -- I received a tracking number for my passport one day after reaching out to my local representative. Even if you havent begun the process, I also heard from other people in line that they can help get you an appointment if you arent having success online.Good luck to everyone in a similar situation.
Surprisingly very efficient and smooth service once youve gotten the appointment. I see and hear a lot of complaints about people not being able to make an appointment but was able to get through after six or seven tries. Very important that you call no more than two weeks prior to your scheduled flight and they will give you an appointment 3 days prior to your flight.
Coming from a person who lost all hope on getting this passport before my trip. Luck was on my side today! I was able to secure 1 slot 2 weeks from now at 6:13AM. So don’t believe the hype of 12am/5am slots opening up. FYI when I made my appointment at 6:13am all appointments times we’re open starting appointment 9am ending 4pm ( 2 weeks from today’s date ). As soon as I reserved my time slot and went to check for another all in less than 5 mins.. they were all gone. Moral of the story try not to loose hope, make the website your best friend and best of luck.
There are no walk-ins allowed and it is extremely difficult to get an appointment online. The only way to get an appointment is to log on to your computer exactly *thirteen days* ahead of the date you want the appointment. Those are the only appointments that will show up in the system at precisely 5 AM (Continue refreshing until appointments become available). Remember, however, that your appointment must be scheduled within 3 business days of your flight or you risk being turned away. The National Passport Information Center hotline is *useless*. I spoke to several people who had been waiting on hold for hours and were not able to get in contact with anyone. The several times that I called, it hung up on me.And the security guards at the agency have been directed to not let *anyone* in without an appointment, regardless of the circumstance. So definitely try to book an appointment online following peoples tips and tricks. Thats the only way to get your passport renewed.
Sharing my experience !! I was trying for almost 2 weeks to get an appointment. I was checking the website almost every hour and midnights and 5 am to 5:20 just in case !! My travel date is June 24 , I was very stressed about It and Sunday June 20 I tried the 12 am nothing and re- check at 4:50 started refreshing to see if I see something different than “not appointments available “ until 5:02 finally saw I appointment available in Connecticut!! I still saw the message not appointment available but it’s was green Where you see the not available message so pay attention!! Once I click , and was choosing the time , got a message to refresh then took me to step one !! Almost had a heart attack !!! I lost the slot !! Tried again at 6 am until 6:10 same agency got my appointment for june 21 at 10:30 . Thanks god got my daughters passport !!!!!…Eventually you will find something just keep trying , even a day before your flight you still can do it , hope this give you all hope !! Good luck .
Appointments are available, but extremely limited. Slots do become available around 12:03am and 5:03am. My advice: put in your information minutes to the hour (12am & 5am), then keep refreshing the page (even after the hour). The first couple of times you might see a message that says no available appointments”, but once you keep refreshing your page, slots will become available—but you have to be quick because they fill quickly.I was able To secure 2 appointments this morning around 5:02am. I hope this helps!
Spoke to a lady on the phone back in December who told me if I needed emergency passport first time, to wait until beginning of January and then try to make an appointment (my flight leaves in 5 days). She never informed me that the agency was booked completely or else Id have started searching the online booking system earlier, or would have went to the local courthouse. She made it seem as if Id have no problem getting it in an emergency and now I may possibly miss the flight for something important. Zero stars for telling people the wrong information. And also, if there is service for life and death situation, then clearly the agency has availability to take in extra appointments for other emergency circumstances. I do not like how they do business.
Not specifically this agency- but the whole system is flawed! You can not get a passport in the US in 21st century - unless you signed for “expedited” service that is 4-6 weeks. This is unbelievable! And this is US in 21st century? Wow...Appointments are simply impossible to get online (no cancellations in the past 5 days), customer service tells you to go online, no walk ins are allowed...this is unacceptable!!We are hostages in our own country....we can’t leave it like a decent citizens.
HERE IS HOW I GOT AN APPOINTMENT:I had planned to just go to the agency and walk-in and renew my passport but then I read the reviews and saw that they werent letting anyone in without an appointment. Before I tried to get an appt, I read the reviews and many people suggested trying during the 12am/5am window. Others said to look for an appointment exactly 13 days before your flight. Those methods didnt work for me. I honestly think its all about you trying and not giving up!My flight was on Friday the 25th. I started looking for an appointment at 12am on Wednesday the 23rd. I literally just kept filling out the info on the travel.state.gov site and and refreshing the page. I did that all night! I kept seeing No matches found... for hours. Then around 6:15am I tried for the millionth time. I started playing a sermon and praying and then appointments miraculously opened up in Philly!!! I didnt care that it wasnt NY--its important not to be picky with which state appointments open up!The only available time was 11:00am the next day (Thursday the 24th). I clicked it, was asked for my email, was sent a confirmation number, asked to input that confirmation number on the site and then my appointment was secured (Keep in mind: this email part needs to happen quickly or you could loose your appointment!). This entire process took me 6.5 hours--6 hours and 25 minutes of this time was spent refreshing the page. In other reviews I read, this process only took some people 30 minutes so it depends! Either way, dont stop trying!!!After this, I bought a $25 bus ticket to Philly and got my passport in just three hours! Once you have an appointment, the process in the agency is easy and quick! Its all about persistence!!! Keep trying--even if it takes you 6.5 hours--youll get it.**Also the rating above is just so I can post this review!**
I don’t understand why you have to pay extra money for your passport to get expedited shipping if they don’t going to send it faster than 4/6 weeks, I’m being trying to get my son passport for more than 2 months and still “have nothing”, they said if you’re traveling show your itinerary or something to prove it, “call to customer service support” and I was trying to get the answer from them, never you can’t get the call, finally they answer the call and the machine put me straight to wait for four hours, and still have nothing!!! This is a terrible situation, I’m really disappointed with this service. Finally they said it’s not their problem that I don’t have my son’s passport and I have to cancel my trip. We keeping paying the fees but the agency doesn’t do anything for us.
I rated 5 because when I eventually got through to a rep over the phone, FYI start calling from 8pm and keep trying till you get put on hold and they do pick up even if it’s 12 midnight yes my call got picked up by 12am and i had to pay more money to get my passport sent to me ASAP because I am traveling next week. Bare in mind the rep mentioned it wasn’t guaranteed but I had faith. I received my passport today via UPS. Just keep calling and I did get an appointment just incase but I just checked and it’s canceled now wanted to give it out. Good luck everyone
I went there today(29th Apr 2021) and the whole process was very smooth. If you prepare your documents correctly and with a passport photo, its a breeze. Only thing is that you need to wait there to collect your passport(no mail option) after approval.NOTE: Appointments are very hard to secure, try at 12:00 midnight and you will get it. The available slots close by 12:05 at max. So you have to be super fast and have chrome auto-fill option enabled to ensure that you go to final confirmation within few seconds!
Finally gotten a email saying approved!! Even though I been had my tracking number. Also tracking number says the 23rd. Not the 26!There’s hope guys. The process of them updating the status might be delayed, however passports are definitely being shipped out without updates.TIMELINE !Passport was sent in June 12Received June 18thEmailed them & congressmen a few times last week, no response !Called to change to 1-2 day shipping july 14th ! No responseCalled again July 20th to transfer files to my appointment, and was transferred to a specialist where I was then told it is impossible to do so, because my passport was shippped out !He emailed me my tracking number the same day. Now 2 days later, I finally got a email saying approved.Good luck guys
I was lucky enough to have gotten an appointment for Tuesday of last week but my sister was unable to secure an appointment, no matter how many times she tried so she took a 6 hour drive to the agency in Vermont which accepts walk-ins!!! She just got her daughters passport today and she told me that they accepted a total of 21 other walk-ins in the few hours that she was there. Hope this helps...
You can’t get an appointment with this agency. They tell you to go online to make an appointment and there is never appointments available. They tell you to call just to be told there is no appointments. The worse of the pandemic is over people just got comfortable being lazy. Google other passport agencies that are smaller and offer the same services if not better
Absolutely horrendous service. 12 weeks for an EXPEDITED service? 18 weeks for routine service? Yet people can schedule an appointment online (if they are lucky enough) for the very next day (possibly at a different city) and can get their passports on the same day? Now you have people scalping these appointments and flipping it for a quick buck to people who are desperate and in need of an appointment? 🤡🤡🤡
This process is completely atrocious, but I was able to secure an appt today at 7 pm for tomorrow at 11am at the Connecticut location. I tried making an appointment many times for about four days now at 12/5 am but it just never happened. I had more luck outside of those times bc my computer would always freeze probably bc everyone is trying to refresh at the same time therefore making it crash. My big tip is that once you’ve gotten through the agency page and into the page where you select your date and time, just remain in the second page and refresh there for a long as you can even if theres no appointments bc sometimes one is bound to pop up out of nowhere. That’s the only way it worked out for me. Like the other reviews have said, don’t give up and keep refreshing!
If ANYONE has appointment for July 2, 2021 Friday. I will pay cash for that appointment I have a flight July 5 and 3 of my children have NOT received there passports yet😣 I am a single Mom and I’m extremely stressed out. At this point I will do anything to get an appointment . My email is yzetterodeznoatgmail.com. IG is numinous_.lily please need an appointment for July 2!
Had a good experience at the passport agency despite covid protocol restrictions. Havent seen recent reviews so want to share current details as of February 2021.1) no walk ins at all... You must have an appointment and they fill up fast (only 8:30 am - 2 pm). You can make an appt two weeks in advance and appts open up at midnight 2 weeks before the date you need and fill up immediately. You can only make an appointment for within 3 days of international travel. This is critical, there is no typical expediting or through third parties, even if you are willing to pay. Its a narrow window of opportunity.2) Dont bother trying to wait outside without an appointment, they turn everyone away. If you arent traveling within 3 days of appt or have proof of family death, they will not process your passport even if you have an appt. It was so sad to see so many desperate people who couldnt get accommodated. I saw no exceptions.3) Make sure you have all your documents with you, no exceptions and no coming back later. Make sure your passport photo meets criteria. They take credit card for payment.4) I was able to get my passport same day, but had to wait 3 hours after my appointment and I was the first appointment of the day. They wont take you early, so no need to be there in advance of appt bc you wait outside.5) there is no wifi or outlets to charge devices, so be prepared to wait, though there was cellphone service for my carrier at least (t mobile)6) it is difficult to get into the building, so if you walk out and want to get back in, be prepared to wait in the cold because they only open the door every 30 mins at appointment times.Good luck. Since I had everything I needed with me and had an appointment, it was pretty seamless.
This is ridiculous they don’t make appointments because the virus but in the airplane we are pack like sardines I don’t see the purpose of this ridiculous agency.I can’t believe no appointments and no walk-in only by phone and when you call no appointment in the all Country and no one cares about it and government is not doing anything to fix this.
At 4:55am log on on a laptop or computer and have everything filled out before you hit next. You have to select an appointment two weeks out for it to work. So if today’s the 10th you have to click the 24th as your international travel date. At 5am click the next button and keep refreshing until it lets you select the New York location. After you’ve gone in keep refreshing until you land an appointment time. Usually it’ll show you dates and appointment times for the day prior. So 23rd would show appointment times. You’ll get a tentative appt once you choose a time so have your email handy on another tab so you can copy and paste the confirmation code they give you. Once you copy it over you have confirmed your appt. I tried for days at the 12am appt and was unsuccessful. 5am time is definitely the best. You’ll get an appointment if you try this way. Good luck!
With the excuse of covid they, arent helping anyone! They dont let you in if you dont have an appointment and getting one is near to impossible, i had to change my flight twice and even then I couldnt get one. The day I went there were mom with newborns, army veterans and they will still kick everybody out, when I went in for the restroom the place was empty!!!! You could fit all those people were outside waiting since 6am(like I was) the list for appointment was half mark, meaning that half of people on that list didnt show up therefore half of them could been seen!!! This is horrible and outrageous, we have the right to have an appointment, mind you this was an emergency, cause I family member pass away and even then they didnt care.
If your in a rush do not pay for expedite because the passport came 5 weeks after my birthday vacation. We spend 60 for no reason. They would not even let you in the building if you don’t have an appointment. And when you call for an appointment your on the phone for an hour
One word to describe this place: horrible. The whole process is just ridiculous, first having to call and wait hours as if we have all day for them to tell you that you need an appointment, then constantly refreshing the page where absolutely NO appointments are available. So what is the alternative? Showing up to the place, waiting HOURS and still NO ONE being considerate enough to take those without an appointment in, as if it is our fault. I don’t understand how in times like this that there is no help what’s so ever. This place really needs to stop getting comfortable with being lazy because there are emergencies people face, so how is it normal to turn someone down in situations like that? Sad, really sad.
Never in my adult life have I experienced such seamless service from a government agency. I had quite low expectations when I scheduled my appointment, anticipating issues with certain aspects of my application, and no doubt expecting to have a long wait. To my delight, they were very helpful, efficient, and solution-oriented to help process my application with no issues and without having to reschedule my appointment. I was in and out in 30 minutes or less, and my shiny new passport was expected to be ready the following day. This agency sets the bar really high not only for all other nationwide passport agencies, but for federal agencies in general. Five stars all around.
Sharing in case this helps someone...HOW I GOT AN APPOINTMENT:From around 7:30am until 8:25 am today (Friday, June 18th, 2021), I was on the website refreshing. At around 8:25am it finally showed some slots for NYC on July 1st so thats when I scheduled for. There were no earlier appointments available.MORE SPECIFIC DETAILS ON MY PROCESSTo be specific, the page I kept refreshing was step 2: find agency. I put in my zip code, hit search, and then usually you get a pop up that says No matching passport agencies have appointments available. I then hit ok then press search again, then the pop up saying there are no appointments comes up again. Just keep repeating that process until an appointment is available. Sometimes you may get an error message, just press okay and continue the loop. You may need to retype the zipcode in.If I remember correctly, when it finally was available a little green button appeared under the office instead of a popup. THIS IS WHERE YOU NEED TO FOCUS AND WORK VERY QUICKLY! When I clicked the green button, thats when it took me to the next step to select a date and time. Mostly everything was greyed out and I had to click the arrow to go to the next week until I saw a date with some times listed. I just picked the first thing I saw. DONT BE PICKY because slots disappear fast. Within a few seconds of selecting the first time, it said this time is no longer available. So then I quickly selected a second time that was listed for that same date and it took me to the next screen. STAY WOKE, YOURE NOT DONE YET!! It asks for some basic info like name and email then you go to the next part where you have to enter a confirmation that they email to you. HAVE YOUR EMAIL READY IN ANOTHER TAB. I quickly copied, pasted, and submit. Then I was done. They sent a confirmation email with all the details. Talk about a freakin adrenaline rush! This was stressful!! But Im so grateful I got a slot.ADVICEJUST KEEP TRYING! I honestly thought there was no hope and thought about trying a different day and time since I saw all these people saying they were logged on at 12am or 5am. But like Dori says JUST KEEP SWIMMING, there is hope! I wasnt even doing this for a full hour, more like 30 minutes or less of refreshing.MAY THE ODDS BE EVER IN YOUR FAVOR!
With COVID protocols in place, the agency is not accepting walk-ins and only those with appointments will be allowed to enter the premise. Though I called the hotline, they were still not able to secure an appointment because it was so backed up for the next two weeks. The only exception they made was for an extenuating circumstance (e.g life or death situation) with a flight in the next 72 hours. As such, my only route was to keep refreshing the online appointment system throughout day and through some miracle was able to secure an appointment. A few suggestions:- Only arrive slightly ahead of your time slot. Any earlier and they won’t let you in the building. You will only be allowed to enter the building as designated by your appointment.- Have all your documents ready for efficient processing including flight details, pictures, old passport, and application forms.- You will only be able to get an expedited same day passport if your flight is within 72 business hours or 3 business days.- Wear wam clothes as you will be waiting outdoors until you have your appointment.- Walk-ins are currently not accepted (as of November 2020). I witnessed many without appointments get turned away.Though these rules seemed stringent, they were straightforward and kept everyone safe. Even though only two processing counters were open, the team was professional and I managed to get my passport in a timely fashion. Thank you for all your hard work!
After several days of trying to find an appointment I finally did at 5:01 am. The 12:00 never worked for me because always people simply did it way faster than me. Don’t loose faith and keep trying. Try 5:00 am trust me, just refresh the location page like crazy until you get a spot!
All I have to say is WOW!!!! I got there at 5:15 and there was only 1 person in front of me! I figured because of the rain there won’t be much people! An hour later is when people started showing up!They open promptly at 7:30! And by 7:40 I was out the door heading to work! I needed my passport renewed for my travel date this coming Saturday! I made sure i had all the required documents ready! Paid the $170 fee and was on my merry way! I was given a receipt and a ticket to pick up the passport the following day.The lady who processed me I believe her name is Carmen. She was very sweet, efficient, thorough and very pleasant to work with!
Unfortunately the make an appointment over the phone system dont work at all. All you get is a busy tone with both numbers all day long. If anyone with a appointment on Aug 16th please contact me via IG garilady_gari . Im definitely willing and ready to pay for your slot. Please and thank you. Have a bless day.
Hopefully this review helps some people. This place is great for someone that needs their passport ASAP.Don’t worry if you don’t have an appointment. Most people that were there didn’t. Get there early. I live in NJ and made it there at 7:20am and was still relatively close to the front of the line. But keep in mind I’ve noticed it’s not really about the time you get there, it’s about how far your travel date is. So if you get there early but you’re traveling a week out, you will be seen after someone who got there after you but is traveling the same day or the following day.. if that makes sense. Nevertheless most people there were traveling the same day so I still waited a very long time. I got there on Friday and was traveling Saturday morning which meant that I absolutely needed it because they’re closed on the weekends. I left at 5:45 pm. But I had my passport. It was $200 and 100% worth it to have my passport in my possession. Everyone there was super helpful and unlike any other government agencies who here their jobs and life which was a pleasant surprise. Will recommend to anyone that needs it in a hurry.
Overall its an excellent service, Mr Gilbert is a very helpful friendly and comprehensive person. He reviewed all the documents and you get the option to wait or leave and come back for pickup. Even the security downstairs are very respectful and patient while doing security checks. Cannot say that about the Asian looking lady downstairs at the checkin desk. Make sure you have all the documents and do not let them give you Bs downstairs if you prepared everything then it will go smoothly. The lady at the checkin desk wanted to investigate the size of the font on my documents and why they are a font 9 and not 12, she also went ballistic and immediately resulted to being rude when she asked for a paper that was not in the list of form required, she was obviously trying to give a hard time which showed me that she needs more training on customer interaction and also training on problem solving.
Amazingly efficient! Did not know about the 3 month policy (traveling to Spain) until I tried to check in to Delta the night before. Had a 5 pm flight w/ wife and 3 small kids planned for Monday. Woke up at 4 am and was on the line by 4:30 am ... #10 on-line. Doors opened at 7:30 am and we were talking to a teller by 7:45, paying for the passports by 8:15, and out the door by 8:30. We returned at 12 (no need to wait in line again, as long as you have your printed receipt) and passports were ready by 12:30.Saved my trip and probably my marriage. Thanks for your great service!Tips: Make sure you print out all of the necessary paperwork w/ photos ahead of time. Do not bring kids with you. No food or drinks allowed. Be patient!
Came to the state building at 376 Hudson st and everything was wrong. Despite missing documents , Rozlyn went above and beyond to assist my Husbsnd and I. She exercised her patience , called the supervisor to see how we can be assisted, was knowledgeable, and very kind. Thank you Rozlyn, we will never forget this great customer service experience we encountered today. Need more people like her working with the public. FYI use a laptop or Desk Top to book appointments at the passport agency, not your cell phones. April 30, 2021
It is 10:30PM the night before you are scheduled to travel internationally, alone with two preschool age children, on non-refundable tickets, to a prepaid and nonrefundable vacation. Your bags are packed, devices are charged, and plane-friendly snacks are waiting and ready to go. You happen to check your passport and realize that it is has JUST expired. After a few moments of terror, you google the nearest passport agency. Online reviews suggest that maybe, just maybe, the passport agency will be able to issue a same-day passport and you will be able to make your early afternoon flight. You get up super early to be the first person in line at the agency. Its freezing outside, but youre in-line outside by 5:45 in the morning with a fully-completed application (and compliant headshots) ready to go, and there are only a few people ahead of you. The passport agency opens at 7:30. Everyone is friendly, helpful, and sympathetic. Administrators process your application by 8AM, and even though theres a problem with the way your name appears in your official documents which causes a delay in Washington, you have a passport waiting for you at 10:30AM. With bags already packed and ready to go, you all make it to the airport in time for a 1PM flight. This office is a model of government efficiency, and my family will be forever grateful.
**IF YOU’RE LOOKING TO GET AN APPOINTMENT DURING COVID READ THIS**I kept trying to get an appointment, but none were showing up. I called and found out that they release appointments at MIDNIGHT for 13 days in advance. (Booked an appointment on Feb 3 for an appointment on Feb 18th). Fill in all your info at 11:59 on the appointment scheduler webpage, and hit search at midnight! You might need to refresh but keep trying! They go quick! They said that there’s a possibility to find a cancelation sooner, but I didn’t see any. Just MAKE SURE your travel plans are within 3 days of your appointment! Best of luck! Stay safe!
Been trying to get a appointment for two weeks now, I’m flying on the 27 of July and I haven’t gotten my son passport, if anyone have a cancellation for the 22nd of July at NYC,CT or Philadelphia please read her out to me. I will pay for it(this will make my son really happy since is our first family trip)
Annoyingly, you have to be really really patient with calling to make an appointment. I called about 10 times in one day. Just kept calling back and when I finally got a wait time, it took about an hour to get on the phone with someone. Unfortunately I have to try again on Thursday in order to get the appointment dates I want, but patience is key.
Excellent experience and friendly workers! I realized my passport needed to be renewed because of the six month rule when traveling to Thailand. I was flying out in 10 days and freaking out so I called and made an appointment. My appointment was for 8am. I arrived at 730am and there was already a line around the corner (maybe 50 people) but it didn’t look to bad and was moving quickly. They separated the people that had appointments with the walk-ins which was great. I was literally done by 830am. So amazing! My passport was ready by the next day(:
I am so incredibly thankful this place exists! I had only one business day before my flight to get my passport. I arrived at 6:30 and there were already a ton of people waiting. The lined moved surprisingly fast. Once you get into the building you will be screened by security as if you were in an airport. No outside food or beverages. After that, you head to information where you submit all your forms and they give you a number. When your number is called your paperwork is processed. Since my flight was only one business day away, I was able to get my passport that same day ( I was told to come back 4 hours later to see if it was ready--it was!) All in all, it was a very long day however, staff was very helpful and friendly. I am so thankful that I was able to get everything I needed in time for my trip. Good Luck and happy travels :)
I have flight june 23 /2021. After trying so hard ,I sumhow end up getting appoitment. My appoitment is on 22nd of June . All you have to do is check their site as often as you can , it will appear once someone cencels their appointment . It makes no sense of calling them because appointment is ONLY scheduled by you online ...
***This was in JANUARY, PRE-PANDEMIC***I had to get an emergency Passport because mine was expired. I showed up about 6am & I was maybe the 10th person in line. When they opened I got through security & saw someone within 5 minutes to confirm I had the necessary documents & take my payment. I then went upstairs, waited maybe another hour, provided all of my documents, forms & flight information & was told to come back in 4 hours. When I went back I waited maybe another 30 minutes and was walking out with my passport! Everyone was nice and the system and service was efficient! Im also sure that having all of my documents in order and necessary forms filled out helped as well.
I will admit, I went to this office expecting the worst. I had submitted an application through the post office for my daughter in June... there was an issue with the consent so they requested another one... they received the Corrected document in the beginning of July and the processing just stalled... 3 days prior to travel I went into the agency. I arrived 8/13/19 at mins 10 mins to 7am. Line was long but typical. We were in the door by 9... and had a ticket with our number by 9:17. The process was quick after that. I was interviewed and was out by 10:15 am with instructions to pickup at will call in 3-4 hrs. I ran errands for a few hours and went back by 3:45. My daughter’s passport was was in hand by 4pm. All the staff was helpful and did there job diligently. I honestly thought it was going to be a longer wait. Most of the time was spent waiting for the building to open and for security check in.
This was much easier and more painless than I thought - I was traveling in the next two weeks and I need brand new passports for my minor children and to renew my passport, as it had less than 6 months before it expired and I heard that can present problems. I was able to go online and make an appointment. I printed and filled out all the forms ahead of time. My husband wasnt able to go with me, so he signed the form that gave me permission to have the passports issued without him - it must be notarized and you must bring a copy of the ID - I brought a copy of his passport. Bring a single picture of everyone - there are a few places that make the pictures across the street, directly south of the building. The staff were all very helpful and it was a smooth experience. I arrived at 7.55 am for my 8 am appointment. There was a short line outside to clear security, and I was done by 9.15 am. That included leaving to get my picture taken and coming back (I was able to go right to the window where my documents were reviewed). Passports were available to for pick up after 3pm the same day.
Possibly the best government agency I ever dealt with. My appointment was for 3:30, got to the building around 3:35 (security guard ensured it was fine to be late), was seen right away, and was done renewing my passport within 30mins. I was extremely stressed bc I was running late but it turned out perfectly!
This agency is very very excellent on its service. I was there at 6 am and it was already a short line in the front of the building, so I recommend you to make it there around that time so you won’t wait much, I got out almost 8:15 am . I went today 8/21/19 and I’m getting my passport the 23rd and traveling the 29th.I went without appointment and it was that fast, but if you go with an appointment is gonna be much easier and punctual. If you travel the same day they will give you the passport right away. The security and all the people from that office are really nice and helpful.
I agree with many of those who provided positive reviews. Everyone was very nice and things moved quickly. We had an appointment for our 3 week old baby at 3:30pm and the entire process was finished by 4:20pm which included having to leave and get a passport photo for our baby.Regarding the photo for babies, this information was unclear for me so hopefully this will help someone: the passport agency does not do passport photos but there are lots of places around the agency that will do them quickly. In our case, I went to a post office near our apartment (Washington Heights) and they did a terrible job so much so the picture was rejected. When we handed in the application they said we had to leave, have another photo taken and come back. I was pretty annoyed but ultimately it didn’t take long and the second photo was so much better and approved. We still completed the whole process in 50 minutes. If you need someone to take your babies photo I would recommend going to any of the places close to the agency who are more familiar with the requirements. If you go to a local post office, bring your own white sheet and insist that the photo meets the application requirements. Also, the photo place we went to only took cash for the photo ($15) so maybe walk with some cash.
Absolutely incredible experience. Im flying out in two weeks and realized my passport is expired so I called the hotline to make an appointment at this agency. I show up at my 9AM and spent about 40 minutes there. I paid $205 and was given a slip to return the next day. I arrived next day and waited in the will call waiting room for an hour and heard my name called and now I have a valid U.S passport in 24 hours. The employees there actually help you and treat you with respect and are happy to answer your questions. I even met a guy on line who was travelling the SAME DAY and managed to get his passport in two hours. You will have a great experience if you make an appointment, but walk-ins are a bit crazy. The line is known to stretch around the block by 7;30am so arrive at 5am if you want to be in front of the line. Appointments are much easier if you can get one on the system, but walk-ins are definitely possible. You must have proof of travel within the next two weeks to expedite your passport. I have seen many people get turned away because they were missing proof or werent travelling. If you arent travelling in two weeks, youll need to apply the normal way which takes 15 days - three months to process. Finally heres some advice about will call you will get a slip with the time to show up at will call but do not show up at that time exactly. The employees there always suggest going in between. For example, if youre scheduled for 2PM pickup, go between 2PM - 6PM because if your passport isnt ready, they will make you wait until your name is called over the intercom. Do not show up earlier than expected, that will not help you. There was a family waiting for five hours because they decided to show at 11am for a 3pm pickup. This was an amazingly fast and straightforward experience. I strongly recommend this agency if you are in need of a passport. You wont regret going here!
I arrived there at 5:15am on a Thursday without an appointment. I was number 10 in line. I had a book and some food to pass the time. My flight was for the following Monday so I had 2 business days to get my passport. After they opened at 7:30am we shuffled right through to the doors. The people who had appointments were ahead of us, but most of them weren’t going to the same place.Once you are called at the window it is very important that you have the following:• Previous passport• Passport photos• Printed proof of departure from the US• $170 (cash or card)• Passport applicationIf you don’t have these documents they will tell you to come back when you do. You will receive a pass to come back to the window when you’ve gathered all your documents. Luckily there is a place 2 blocks away where you can take a passport photo and also where you can print documents of your departure. They charge $15 for photos and $1 per page, a little pricey and they only take cash, but you have no choice.Once I submitted all of my documents I was given a yellow slip and told to come in the next day in the afternoon to retrieve my passport. On that Thursday I was in and out in less than 30 minutes. When I came in the next day to get my passport I went swiftly up to the 10th floor where there was no wait in the line and I had my beautiful, shiny passport in less than a minute. It was truly a New Yorker’s dream how fast, nice and efficient they were.I really hope this was helpful!!!
I made an appointment last week for today (8/8) at 3pm to renew one passport and to get a new one for my newborn. On the office website it suggests you arrive 30 minutes before however we arrived 2 hours before and were seen at our appointment time. So, our appointment was at 3pm and we arrived at 1pm. By the time they finally called our number it was 2:55pm. I can only imagine what time we would have gotten out of there had I listened to their website about arriving 30 minutes prior. Also, the security check in at the door were very understanding. I was carrying breastmilk that i did not want to put under the X-ray machine and they didnt have a problem. It says no food or drinks aloud but they let me bring in water bottles because I had my baby. The staff at the windows were also professional and friendly. I was surprised at the positive staff demeanor considering it is a government agency. Our passports will be ready for pick up tomorrow the earliest!
Remember: the fact that you need same day or an expedited passport is your fault. With that being said, yes the wait is long. But they get the job done. I went to check into my flight this morning and realized my passport had expired. I arrived around 10:30am and left at 5:45pm. My flight is for tomorrow morning. I’ll be making my flight and I’m happy about that.
Well the other reviews certainly don’t lie. they know what they’re doing here. for any other folks who might be in my boat, i needed a passport renewal day-of for a flight in the evening. i was super stressed and worried but i was able to make an appointment the night before before the phone lines closed at 10pm and the next day i got there early before they opened. the line didn’t get too crazy until maybe a half an hour before the doors opened. i also ran around the night before and got all my documents ready so definitely be sure to do any printing beforehand. i got seen before my appointment time and from there it was just 3-4 hours of waiting for the physical copy to be printed and approved. after all was said and done i still had plenty of time to spare before my flight. take a deep breath and get going!
I needed expedited same-day processing of a passport renewal. Called their appointment system at 9am, received an appointment for 3:30pm the same day. Showed up at 3:15, was met with a very friendly receptionist. Was seen almost immediately. Submitted paperwork and check. Was asked to come back before 6pm for pickup. Came in at 5pm had my passport in hand at 5:55. Everyone for professional and courteous. Great experience. No need to overpay for a courier service.
They never answear the phone line. More than 2 hours waiting in the phone. Also they give you the wrong information. The other day I call and answear he told me to call 3 days before my travel day that’s the only way I could get a passport and now they never answear the phone. This system is so bad even for emergencies.
I want to commend the staff at the NYC Passport Office on Hudson Street. I arrived at 9:50am for my 11:00am I was walking out of the building by 11:38am. Everyone that I spoke to was very helpful and pleasant. On my way out I had to let the staff know what an amazing job they are doing. I am truly pleased with my experience. I procrastinated but they did not. Thank you all!
So I came here at around 6:00AM because the line would be too long if I came later. I mean, it was pretty cold. After 1.5 hours of waiting, a guy comes outside telling everybody what they need to do when they get inside. I came because my passport expired. The printing took way too long. I went to a nearby McDonalds to have breakfast, came back, and legit took two naps on my chair and when I woke up, they still werent done printing my passport. I waited 3-4 hours by the time they were done. The staff are friendly, but at times arent so helpful. Its okay though.
For a place that deals with frantic people and passport emergencies/ issues all day, I was expecting my experience to be horrible with terrible service. But from the security, to the clerks, everyone was very pleasant. I had a last minute issue with my (now) old passport where I needed a new one in the same day. I was super stressed and worried, but the workers there were very warm, and I was able to get a new passport in less than 4 hours with NO problems (even though I was out of town and was worried because I didn’t have the regular passport documentation on hand). I left very happy!
Great experience, some people held up lines because they did not properly research what to bring or the requirements and as a Government agency, they wont mess around. Bring the right documents, know that you cant bring in food or water, and come early if you are a walk-in. My story below...I booked a flight the night before I went to the office as I had to be somewhere quite soon, I printed the itinerary to bring to the office. I got to the office on Friday at 6:20 and there were probably about 40-50 people there. They are professional with the lines and there are places to lean/sit against. Make sure to bring coffee or a drink with you (that you will throw away before entering) as it is a wait. I got in at about eight and from there the line continued to move quickly. After the long line, you will go through airport-like security and go to a smaller line. You are given a numbered ticket after showing your prepared documents and you go up to floor 10 where you wait for your ticket to be called. From there it is smooth sailing.Tips:- Do the forms online with the government Form Filler, it will save you time and aggravation, there is little to lean against at the office- If you have kids, bring toys or something to distract them because you could be waiting a long time- Dont bring unnecessary baggage, youll be moving on a line quite a bit- In the morning the sidewalk is shaded so you shouldnt have to worry about getting too warm in the summer- They will photocopy something for you if you dont hand your own photo copy but try to so that you dont hold up the line- Triple check documents- Relax. They are there to help you travel, not to limit your mobility
This place saved me. I was unable to get a tourist visa with less than 2 weeks to go before my flight, since my passport expired in less than 6 months. I read a bunch of the reviews on here, got my paperwork together, and showed up to wait outside the agency at 5:30 AM on a Tuesday. Only one person was in line before me, but more people started showing up around 6. A security guard was also waiting outside in his car, so I felt safe even though it was still dark out. There were ~50 people in line by the time it opened at 7:30. I was in and out by 8 and able to make it to work on time. Amazing service.
Wow! I had an amazing here. So yesterday I found out my passport expired and I travel to Cancun tomorrow ! I was so worried I wanted to cry!!!!! But I came here after doing some research and I got there an hour early cause doors open at 730am. There was Like 50 people on the line already, but it wasn’t as long as I thought it would be but once 645 hit the line just got super long. They did take people with appointments first which only makes sense. Everyone here is very patient and nothing like I expected to be. Usually I always feel in a rush but here all they wanted to do was get everyone out as fast as possible. Also, James F was nothing but patient with me while he assisted me at window 22. I wasn’t rushed and all my questions were answered. I get to have my passport today in 4 hours for my flight tomorrow!! Super excited, thanks to this place.
Came here 2 weeks before my flight to Cuba and Leslie was SUPER helpful and friendly! She made the process very seamless and even put my nerves at ease. I didnt have an appointment, but did not have to wait to be seen. I wish I would have filled out my application beforehand so I couldve been in and out in five minutes (they also have applications onsite in case you dont bring one with you). Highly recommend this location for expediting your passport renewal! Just make sure you have all necessary documents (expired passport, photos, application, and printed proof of flight/itinerary). Credit/debit card must be in your name as well if paying by card.
At 6:00 AM, there were about 5 waiting on line outside the buildings front. (You will be outdoors, so dress appropriately.) As expected of any government office, the door opens right on time at 7:30 AM, no matter how horrible the weather outside may be.Security staff is all about business. They will push everyone through the X-rays to the reception on the 1st floor, who will ask the reason for your visit, then give you your ticket number and send you up to the 10th floor. When I got to the waiting area, it was about 7:45. Windows open slowly one by one.I have heard web stories of same-day passport renewals for recently expired books, but this was not true for me. The window staff said that the earliest it can be ready is the next day and that was when I was going to get it. It was rather disappointing given my efforts, but still acceptable.By 8:20 PM, I was done and there was no more line outside of the building, though I dont know if there is any afternoon rush. I was still able to go to work afterward, and did make it in time.Worthwhile if you are in an absolute rush for passport renewal and have no time.
Went there yesterday and honestly can say that these people are the best in the world when it comes to getting your Passport. My appointment was for 12 PM but I got there a bit early. I went through the metal detector. Went to the appointment window then went upstairs where I waited no more than 30 minutes. An appointment isnt necessary, but you leave faster when you make an appointment.I went to the window, gave all my documents and the lady there kindly told to re-take two pictures downstairs since my head was tilted up too high. So I did, went back upstairs. My birth certificate has a minor typo in my last name. Know what these people did? They didnt tell me I needed a new one. She looked at my social, she looked at my ID and everything else and determined that Im the person that I say I am.I paid 195.00 and got out of there in less than an hour. I have to pick up my Passport today or Monday. I would recommend these people to anyone and everyone who needs a passport within two weeks. By the way... this place closes at 4 PM EST not 3 PM.
Its June and Im notified that I need to renew my passport because of Frances rule of having it valid for another three months AFTER the return flight date. Its Tuesday and my flight is Sunday so there are no appointments available before I leave. I get in line at 8:22am on Tuesday with my itinerary, renewal forms, and current passport. I waited in the line outside for about 1.5 hours before I was at the attendants window. $170 and 10 mins later, Im given a slip to pick up my passport the following day.Im typing this after I came back at 4pm to pick up my passport. I head to will call and theres a long line, full waiting room, and no AC. However, within 15 minutes, Im leaving the building with my new passport. AMAZING!This agency is the best option for dealing with situations like mine. There are other agencies that will charge you even more IN ADDITION to the fees I paid and I dont think thats worth it if you can get to this building. Not sure how the process is if you dont have an existing passport but I highly recommend using them for renewals needed within 14 days. Now, I just have to worry about what to pack for this Paris trip!
This place is horrible. I only gave it one star because I had to in order to write a review. I came on Friday with a 1:00 p.m. appointment which is not true as they DO NOT go by appointments. I was applying for an expedited passport for my minor son and waited for almost 4 hours until they finally called us to the window. We were the given a number with almost 40 people ahead of us. After 3 hours we were finally called for the interview. After everything was processed they go ahead and tell me that my passport wont be ready until Monday at 3:00 p.m. I asked why as over the phone the rep said I would get it the same day. Apparently this was not true. They gave me a receipt that said to come pick up the passport at 3:00 p.m. I returned today Monday and was told it was not ready and that my receipt should have said between 3 and 6 and not 3!!! I live in NJ and pay tolls to come here and they had the audacity to tell me to return the next day if I didnt want to wait even after realizing they messed up. I spoke to a supervisor and got nowhere!!! I cannot believe this is a US agency. Terrible!
Terrible experience. Froze outside for about two hours. They open the doors at 7:30am then the fun starts. The customer service is unprofessional, careless. I was told my eyes were too “small” for my passport picture. I explained to the “kind” woman behind the counter that my eyes don’t open wide because well... I’m Asian my eyes are pretty slanted. She didn’t care. Didn’t listen to my concern. Didn’t listen to the fact that I had to be out of the country in less than 8 hours. Ultimately told me to come back with a better picture. Went to a corner store that did passport pictures came back to the same “kind” woman who sarcastically continued to badger me regarding the photo difference. Then proceeded in telling me that I don’t want to be bothered and that I will not “kill her Friday.” No words came out of my mouth for her lack of professionalism and assumption that she would be somehow verbally attacked by me. Get over yourself. This place is a joke. Shameful government workers treating hard working Americans poorly.PS. Due to wait times, rude encounters, careless attitudes and lack of understanding and empathy... I missed my flight.
Im so impressed with how this place is run - everyone is so nice and genuinely helpful. I was packing last night for my flight to Europe (that leaves TODAY!) when I realized my passport was missing. After doing some quick research, I recognized coming here was my only shot. I got to the office at 4am (yes, that early) and was first in line outside but am soooooo happy I did that as there were between 50-100 people in line when it opened at 7:30. I hadnt brought photocopies of my birth certificate or license, so went to Staples at Union Square at 5:30 to make copies while the people behind me held my spot. SO nice! My passport was ready and in my hands by 12pm.My advice is GET THERE EARLY and be prepared - if youre not, youre going to have to wait a really long time. Bring a print out of your flight information, the original and photocopies of everything (ID, birth certificate, etc.), passport photo, and fill out ALL of the forms beforehand. If youre missing any of these they will make you go back in line. There were a lot of people who tried to go to the front of the line because they had same-day flights, but the officers still made them go to the back of the line. It obviously sucks to get there at 4am but it is SO worth it.If you forget your photo, theres a place across the street that will do it - the people behind me forgot their photos and got them done at 7am.
Amazing that you can get your passport in the same day! Heres a tip from someone that just went through this. First, arrive between 4 and 5am. Thats not a typo. Your looking at a 400+ person line come 7am. Second, come with your passport application filled out, your old passport (if renewing), and proof of travel (departing within 2 weeks). Third, wait. First they will make sure you have your paperwork in order on the 1st floor. Next theyll make you wait on the 10th floor so they can take your $ (VISA accepted) and paperwork. Finally you wait in the will call area for your name to be called. That takes 3 to 4 hours so best case scenario your out by 11 to 11:30a. Good luck!
They are very customer friendly and will help with any questions. Still the wait to receive your passport was very long even when there was almost no one else waiting. Expect to be there for more than 5 hours if you are getting the passport on the same day you go for your appointment. On a side note if you brought something with you, and security takes it, make sure you pick it up on the way out. They will discard or destroy anything left behind. They don’t have a good lost and found system.
You saved the day for our family vacation!!! We were suppose to leave for our family trip to Aruba, only to realize the night before while checking in that my daughters passport expired 4 months ago! my husband waited on line since 4:30 am & we met him here at 7:30 am when doors opened. They were extremely organized from start to finish. We were in and out in less than an hour! We have to go back in 3-4 hours to pick up her passport! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!!!!!! Aruba here we come! Jason rocks!!! Staff here were extremely helpful ✈️
Expedited drop off was easy. Pick up was an issue because the window agent provided misinformation about when the passport would be ready. I was told to come anytime after 3pm and it would be ready, but then when I arrived at 4:30pm I was told it would be ready between 3pm-6pm and couldn’t be quoted any type of estimate (15 minutes vs 90 mins). Seems like there’s internal confusion about what guidance to give visitors. Also, the window teller was unhelpful and generally rude.
I did not realize that certain countries require you to have more than 6 months on your passport. So I went in last Friday as a walk in at around 10am the line was long but it went pretty quickly and many tellers were working. I was out by 11:10am. Then I was able to pick up my passport on Monday by the afternoon or during the week. The staff was courteous and efficient. I went to pick up my passport today at around 11 am at the will call on the 10th floor and there wasnt a line went in and out.I am thankful that the government office works as it should and you are able to get your passport in time. You can go in walk in or make an appointment online to this location. Be sure to check out the documents you need to bring at the passport website. It is easy to access and you can even type into the passport or renewal form and print it. Be sure to bring in the correct form, documents and payment.
Read the reviews and showed up hours early to be close to the front. They opened the doors on time, let the people who had appointments/pickups first and then us. Overall my experience was fluid, Jan-Marie assisted me and gave me the info I needed. Just for future reference if you’re trying to renew your passport try having your photos ready. Makes the process run smoother. Jan-Marie sent me on my way to get my photos taken and fill out the form. Went back gave the paper work back and paid, then was told to come in the following day to pick up my renewed passport. My experience was great and thanks to the reviews here it made my time run smoothly and efficiently.
This agency saved my trip! I realized my passport expired the day before my trip. I waited on line from 6:30-7:30am and was one of the first 10 people in. I was sent down the block to get a new picture taken and had to fill out a passport renewal application while waiting to be called. I got my passport at 12pm the same day. Now I’m all set for my trip tomorrow. Thank god for this passport agency!
Just like everyone says, without an appointment arrive early. I arrived at 5:15 and was 8th in line. By 6, there weren’t many more people so I probably could have arrived later but I was in at 7:30, had my passport at 11. People were very quick and efficient, I had a flight same day and they made a stressful situation easier.
I arrived at JFK to fly and learned my passport was going to expiring in 2 months -> could not fly. I Arrived to the NY Passport Agency at 6:45AM Monday morning, there was already a line of 50 people outside, by the time the building opened at 7:30AM the line was ~400 people. Once opened, the agency is very organized and has good crowd control. Within 20 minutes I spoke with a person at the front desk, they look over your paperwork, they give you a ticket #, and send you upstairs. Upstairs is where you submit the paperwork and pay the fees $130 for passport + $40 for expediting. The employee ensured me my passport would be ready today. You are able to leave the building and come back. By 1:00PM I had a passport in hand and was able to fly that night. The trick is to arrive early with all required paperwork in hand. I am not sure if this is the same speed for first time passports (it probably is), but for renewal it went smooth and fast.
I was literally in and out within 15 mins! I had a 8 am appointment showed up at 756 due to train delays.. there was no line. The employee was helpful, sweet and quick with the process. Even easier picking up my passport next day. I’m my opinion those who had a bad experience either had no appointment or did not read the online instructions and were not prepared (which are accurate and easy to follow). The website easily states 14 days or less and gives you every bit of information on what to bring and what to do. It is not the offices fault if you are traveling within 15 days or 16 lol or show up at 4 pm with no appointment or unprepared.. I did realize that early morning appointments are the best for no lines and quicker service.. afternoon apointments tend to have a line but the process is still fast once at window. I had an easy great experience ! Highly recommend this place for passport needs and cheaper than an agency that charge up too 500! For 24 her passports! I paid 170 .. simply follow the instructions and you’ll be happy with the outcome. :) awesome service !
I don’t normally write reviews, but this place was awesome!! I had to reschedule my flight to Bali because my passport was going to expire before the 6 month period. YES THAT IS A RULE FYI SO DOUBLE CHECK! The people were so nice and the process took less than 30 minutes. My passport was prepared in 3-4 hours and I was able to catch my flight the same day. I had no appointment! I worked with Stephanie and she was so nice!TIPS:Come at 4 amHave all your proper documentationFill out your forms and print them out from online (DS11 if you are getting a new passport) that was my situation! (DS82 if you are renewing the passport)Have a passport picture ready!!!GOOD LUCK
I filed for a passport on 1/17. Was told to come pick it up between 3pm and 6pm the day after MLK. I arrived at 4pm. Passport was not ready until 8:30pm! There were many other people waiting who had filed on Friday. There were people in desperate situations, many, and no answer was given as to when they would be ready - just sit and wait. When I left at 8:30pm there were still people there, families, children. Today, I returned to pick up my childrens passports. Filed on Friday with them, told to return between 3pm and 6pm. At 5:40pm they make an announcement that anyone waiting for a passport to get on line for a status update. Same terrible service as last time. I arrived at 4pm. No ETA provided just told to sit and wait. There are ar least 70 people waiting on line at the moment. No one is given an update just told to sit and wait because the passport is not ready. This is terrible service especially for the premium being paid to get a passport here.
Never EVER EVER AGAIN! I arrived at 7am to get a same day passport and didn’t leave until 6pm (the time they close). I was told that it would only take 3-4 hours and ended up waiting a whopping SIX hours. It was an absolute atrocity. I watched people that arrived after myself receive service and leave earlier than I did. The staff isn’t very helpful either- they have zero interest in helping you resolve your issue, and move slow- meaning the lines are ridiculously long (as you can see from them the images provided by Google).Do better, New York Passport Agency! This was an unpleasant experience.
Seriously, I am not the type who writes reviews a lot, but this agency took a lot of my time, calling them several times, every time on hold for more than 2 hours, they just hang up, or the officer on duty asks me to hold for another officer on duty then I am on hold again. I have complied with everything they asked, prepared all the documents needed. but no one to talk to, I HAVE A DEATH EMERGENCY, and its just normal for them making me wait listening to that annoying music. this is ridiculous.
Got there at 630am and I am NOW leaving at 6:43pm. So no matter how early u get there, you will leave late. And what takes the most is picking up the passport. They’re so rude!! They check to see if the passport is ready and when it’s not they yell “ not ready have a seat. NEXT!!” Unbelievable but overall I did received my passport.
I needed an emergency renewal and they did it for me within 2hrs. Of course for them to expedite the process of renewing the passport you must show proof of travel (flight ticket) and also currently you must show a medical report for the reason of travel which must be a life or death situation (anything serious). This is only now due to the reopening of the office (btw they only do walk in if you made an appointment) from the lock down of COVID-19.
Phenomenal experience. We realized a week before our trip to Europe that our passports expired less than 6 months after our arrival, which many countries require. Our appointment at the Stamford office was cancelled due to snow, so we took a risk and showed up unannounced here. We got there around 10:30 and by noon our application had been processed. Barely any wait, super easy and clear process. As long as you have your required materials in order, the process is smooth sailing. Our passports were ready to pick up by 4:30, and the phenomenal West Village location meant there was tons to do while we waited. Also, the staff are the friendliest Ive ever seen at a government agency, especially considering nearly everyone who comes here has by definition messed up in some way ;)
Everyone here is courteous and friendly. I made an appointment and was in and out within an hour. I had to get passports for my children (one new and one renewed). We needed both parents ID’s, their original birth certificates, old passports (if applicable), travel itinerary and their passport applications. The kids and both parents had to be present. I was told that the passports would be ready by tomorrow afternoon. We were able to pay by card. The process was very convenient.** The passports were ready the next day. I went in the afternoon to pick them up. Found parking on the street and was out in about 10 minutes.**
I had a very good service. Very friendly workers. Get ready for big lines. We got there at 8:45am and left at 2pm and then return around 5pm to pick up the passport.I would suggest getting there late at around 2pm with no lines. Just inside but it goes quickly and youd still be see by someone as they close at 6pm.
This place is amazing. Very understanding people working there and they are so clear and concise about the required documentation. I’ve been there for myself, had several family members go as well for different reason. Also recommended to multiple friends and coworkers and each and every person had an excellent experience here. Honestly, I would rather wait last minute and come here with an appointment then renew my passport the traditional way.
I used this agency a few months ago, but I just wanted to reiterate how amazing it was! As long as you have your overseas trip booked, you can get your passport same day for a very reasonable price. Everyone was so nice !! I even was able to take my photo down the block.
My experience was amazing. As long as you have an appointment it’s a breeze. Appt was at 8:30am, I got there early (7:15) waited till 7:30 when they opened and was out before 8am, before my appointment even! So fast and efficient. Get to pick up my passport very next day :)
Having read all the reviews of lines stretching around the block I got here early; real early. I posted up at 4:15AM and was soon joined by two equally eager people - with sad stories of their own about how they got in this predicament - and we waited for what seemed like a frozen eternity. The line never got as long as other reviews suggested and I later learned that summers are much busier than fall/winter months. The line started to build in earnest around 6:30. Your mileage may vary and I was happy to be the first in and hopefully one of the first to be done that day.Doors opened at 7:30. Once inside things were very smooth. Friendly helpful, courteous staff and things moved along nicely. You submit an application and are told to come back in 3 hours to pickup, but if your flight is same day, you will leave with a passport and be good to fly. There is a wait from the time you leave paperwork and pay until you pickup printed book. You must have filled out your forms prior, bring photos, ID and you should be able to salvage it. Also, you can pay by credit card. Good luck!Shoutouts to #2 and 3.
I had a good experience at this agency. I made an appointment through the travel.gov website. Took the train to NY from NJ and got to my appointment 5 mins early. I went through security then was told to go to the 10th floor. I made a left and stood in line until was called to the window to verify my appointment time and documents. I brought with me my:•Ds-11 form, partially filled out•My old passport•License•Passport photos•Flight itinerary ( must be leaving in 2weeks or less)•Social security card•Confirmation numberThe lady at the window was very nice. She verified all the documents. She asked if I had my birth certificate, I told her no but I did have my s.s card. She accepted it and made copies of everything. I was given a number and told to wait in the next room. I waited for about 15 mins until I was called. I paid a total $205 for everything. ( large passport book) My appointment was at 11:30am & by the time I got my passport it was 2:10pm. Not that long. Another girl was since 9am and didn’t get hers until 1:40 so it all depends. There was a lot of crying babies and the it feels like you’ll be there forever but it was all worth it. Got my passport!
Got there at 4:50 with all paperwork done. Let us in at 7:30, we’re taken and through the process of our passport renewal by 7:45. They were very courteous and professional. Then had to wait for them to print new passport. By 10am had brand new printed passport in hand and was on way to airport to my 1pm flight.
This post office is a life saver!! My boyfriend realized his passport expired the night before his flight to Paris. After some research, I found that this post office does same day passport, so we went crossing our fingers that everything would work out (being as though most government offices are a nightmare). My boyfriend arrived at 6:30 and there was a long line already. Once the post office opened, the line moved quickly and he was given paperwork to fill out. They also instructed him to go to one of the nearby businesses to take his passport picture. Once he returned with his passport picture he was able to skip the line and go upstairs to get his paperwork processed. Once he submitted his paperwork, they gave him a paper to return with in 2-4 hours to pick up his passport. The process took all of 20 minutes. He was able to go to work (on time) and return to get his passport at noon to catch is 8pm flight that day. What a relief!!Few suggestions for anyone that’s planning on making a visit here:1. You must have proof of your upcoming flight (must be within two weeks)2. Bring your old passport for identification3. Arrive at 5 am to be safe
Went to NYC passport office at 6:45 AM to find out the status of my sons passport which was being processed in the NY office for 11 weeks. We are flying to Europe in 13 days so time was quickly passing us by. Staff was courteous and helpful. Thumbs up to Richard on the 10th floor who went and found the passport application and ensured the passport was available to us in 2 hours in the will call area. We were in by 6:45AM and out by 1:30PM with passport in hand. Plenty of places nearby to eat while waiting. The worst part is the 1st floor check in, overcrowded and in need of more agents to check in people. If you have all your paperwork and evidence of travel within 14 days, you will get your passport even on the same day. Usually though within a few days depending on travel date.
We had a last minute international travel emergency and needed a passport for our baby. We had plans to walk in but got advice to make an appointment instead. This was a great decision as we were in and out in under an hour. We were there by 8:10am and out by 8:45 a.m.Passport ready by the next day. I always get anxious and frustrated with government agencies because the wait times are always ridiculously long and the staff are always grumpy and rude but the staff and security here are very pleasant and professional and make you feel at ease through the whole process.Items needed:Baby birth certificate2 passport photoBoth parents IDDS 11 formThey made their own copies of everything.Birth certificate will be received together with new passportA few tips:Make sure you have your forms already filled and all your papers organized before going up to the windows.Make sure you have your confirmation number from when you set your appointment because they will ask for it.Walk with a pen just in case. It’s best to get there early even though you have an appointment. It’s best to take public transportation than your personal vehicle or you will have to feed a meter.lolI hope this helps someone who is getting anxiety about this.
They have been so positive and so efficient with everything today. I found out last night when I was trying to board a plane that my passport needed to remain in issue for 3 months after my scheduled arrival (I only had 2 1/2) so we booked a flight for the next day on Friday. I got in line at 6:30 (they open at 7:30) and was helped by 9:20 (there were at least 150 people there and most of them before me). They were very kind and helpful and got me to calm down. They told me after that because of the time of my flight, they would do their best to have it done in 1-2 hours! I never thought I could leave such nice comments about a government agency!! Awesome!!:):)
Very disappointed first visit that they had the capacity to process our passport but turned us away. It was an emergency situation where my 5 year olds passport had expired (found out at check-in) and we were traveling the next morning. Cost my family $4500 to change our tickets at Christmas. Standard case of a government agency forgetting that its role is to provide service to the citizens and not simply to enforce a policy through its disgruntled staff. Queued from 5am on Dec 23rd and was issued a passport same day. Very smooth but 2 days too late. My advice is to get there at 5am at busy travel times. By 6am there were already probably 100 people in line. By opening, line was all the way around the block.
Considering no appointments available and we did the walk in. The process and service was excellent. Offices opens at 7:30, we arrived at 7:00am to wait in line. The line did wrap around the building by 7:15am. We were done by 8:45am. This is if you have all paper work and required documentation. My kid was able to go back to school and claim a late pass. Very very efficient considering an government agency. Staffs was very friendly and nice.
Got there at around 6 wasnt expecting to be first in line but the line was already around the corner. I would say like 50 ppl were ahead of me. Got searched and a ticket # by 8:30 and was out by 9. Went on a Thursday and my trip is on Tuesday. Pickup was the next day. Fill out form online. And oh, appointments are helpful to get you out quicker.
I cant rave about this place enough. Due to a self-inflicted emergency a few months back, I needed to renew my passport in about 20 hours. Following instructions found online, I arrived at the office around 5:30 am (fourth in line), and waited for opening. Everyone was stern but understanding, realizing most of us were stressed beyond belief. After a hiccup or two, I dropped off my old passport, paperwork, and photos, and was able to get a new passport within three hours -- plenty of time to spare. I am so grateful for this office (and for living in New York, where something like this could exist).
Had an appointment for 10:00am but showed up at 8:30am. I had everything ready before I got there. Paperwork filled out, picture, ID, proof of travel within 4 weeks (need a Visa for Brazil, otherwise you need to be travelling within 2 weeks). I was out by 9:00am!! The entire process took 25 minutes and I was SHOCKED. Thought I would be there for hours, so that was a pleasant surprise. I was just renewing my passport so not sure if it takes longer to get your first one. Everyone was friendly and my Passport will be ready to pick up tomorrow in the afternoon. Great job, NY Passport Agency!
I can not speak highly enough of this place. First and foremost. Appointment is not necessary. I read reviews on here on the matter as well as the topic of arriving an hour prior to opening or well over it. I arrived at 6:10. Place opens up at 7:30. 15-20 people were in line already which is a decent amount. Within 15 minutes there were about 40 people. 7:30 sharp the doors opened and we were instructed to remove all coats and anything in our pockets before passing through the metal detectors. Food and Drink are also not allowed inside. Once we were done those with no appointments were instructed to go to line B which took about 10 minutes to get through, then we went upstairs to the 10th floor and waited for our numbers to be called for the session with the person assigned to process our applications. I was called within an hour. Make sure to use exact change if using cash. Some people had to ask those that were seated if they had change. They will not allow you to pay more than the due amount. In my case I applied a month ago and my application was sent to the national passport center and they somehow lost it. That application had my only proof of citizenship which was my old passport. This was not an issue as I paid $150 to have a file search conducted to locate my passport record in order to prove my citizenship. It was done with 10 seconds, and after reviewing my material a little more the employee told me to return the next day at 3pm to pick up my passport. I returned and within 20 minutes I had my new passport. Very efficient work they do here. I cant commend them enough. Saved me the stress of not having my passport in time for my trip which is in 7 days. $3,500 would have gone to absolute waste.
Dear Brian,I came to you on August 14th with all my documents to get an emergency passport. I had a letter from my fathers doctor showing the severity of his condition, granted the doctor didnt write it in laments terms but it was obvious, you even said “i see its serious but we still need a letter from the doctor”. You asked me to get a letter, i wasnt able to due to the time difference. My father passed away on August 30th, and i didnt even get a chance to say goodbye. You guys really need to be alittle more understanding and kind to people who come there, i wasnt asking for anyones unborn child, just for a passport renewal so i could have seen my father or even help in anyway maybe he would have been alive now. I hope one day you will understand this pain and maybe your heart wont be as stone cold as it is now. This goes out to all of the workers there as well. Be compassionate with people, we are in the mids of a pandemic, there are so many struggles going on. The least you can do is be understanding and try to help. I was only renewing my rightfully owned passport !!!
I made an appointment but I was told to go to the general waiting area. The line moves slower than the DMV. So bring a book or something to keep entertained. Staff was very helpful and friendly. No food allowed like in most government offices. Would be nice if vending machines are in the building especially if the wait is long. Would be Helpful for people with medical condition.
Absolutely great service! Received my passport within 2 days after applying. (I believe you can receive it the next day after applying) This is great for emergency travel when you need a passport ASAP. The total cost was $205. For a heads up, they do not take passport pictures here but literally next door you can take pictures. Highly recommend!
Diana was super helpful and patient with me after I got up to the 10th floor. I got there at 6:15 and was 10th in line but that was a good spot to get. I was done by 8 (they open at 730).My passport got lost in the mail (someone wrote the wrong address to ship to) and I needed it by this week to apply for a visa. So they helped me get a new one in time since I was Pre approved. A bit of a nuisance but these are good people who want to help
The day I went to get my passport interview the lady who took care of me was super kind and very professional. Unfortunately I did not have the same experience today when picking it up.At 8:43am on 9/9/2019 I arrive to the facility. The only guy in the window called me he was super rude and no manners at all. I tried to show him my ID and he said I dont need to see your ID twice and theres nothing wrong with that but the way he sounded made me feel I was doing something terrible. He gave me the envelope with my documents and his tone was exactly the same during the whole interaction. You can clearly tell he has no patience and not a good representative for customer service. This associate needs to be coached on how to address to people in a more respectful, kind and professional way.
Speedy process, I got there at 5:05 am , they opened the doors at 7:30 am & I was out by 8 am... walk-ins are accepted from 7:30am -3:00pm . For people leaving in a few days your passport will be ready and available for pick up on the next Business day from the hrs of 3pm -6pm and if you are traveling the same day it would be ready in 4hrs . Save travels
Very pleasant & efficient experience. Like many others, did not realize I needed 6 months on my passport to travel to Mexico. I realized it a few days before our vacation. The Passport office was efficient despite the large number of people waiting to get in; everyone we dealt with was pleasant and understood our situation. They delivered when they said they would and saved our vacation. My only complaint is why I did not know this information before I had to panic; the airline had our passport expiration dates and the state department obviously has it. Need more communication.
Thank GOD for this walk-in center. If you dont have an appointment, you can still get your passport but you need to arrive very early....I was on line at 5:45am and out by 8:30am. Doors dont open till about 7:30am. The line gets very long but goes quick. My passport was ready for pickup the next day. Make sure you have all of your documents ready and form(s) filled out beforehand, make copies as well.
Procrastination is my middle name. I decided to wait until the very last minute to get my passport to travel. My bus was scheduled to leave at 4am on a Tuesday to Canada. I arrived at the office around 6:30 on Monday morning and there were about 20-30 people in line. The officers were very courteous and helpful, answering all of our questions with patience and making sure the line moved quickly. They let us in at 7:30 and the process was very quick and easy! If you are a walk in, first you get your documents verified on the first floor. After that, you go up to the 10th floor for your “interview”. I thought this was going to take at least an hour and a half. I was out of there by 8:30! I would have been done by 8, but I needed to go down the street to take another passport photo because the one I brought with me was too small. When I came back with my photo, I was allowed to go right to the front of the line. They told me my passport would be ready at 1, but I ended up coming back around 4 and picking it up from will call was a breeze. BEWARE! If you don’t have an appointment they stop taking walk ins at 3p. You will only get your passport the same day if you are traveling within 24 hours. Decided to add this because I ran in to some very frustrated travelers while picking up my passport at 4. If you need a passport in a hurry I definitely recommend stopping by. Also, a very special thank you to Sheneka, the woman helping me during the “interview” because she was very patient even though I was visibly flustered and anxious.
I called before coming to this office. After reading all the rave reviews on the amazing customer service that was received. I experienced the exact opposite. I do not live close to this office. Was told walk ins were taken until 530p. It was an utter waste of time when I was told walk ins were not taken after 3p. I was turned away even though I had proof my flight was at 9p tonight. Its utterly frustrating when being misinformed. I will just mail the passport out because I will not lose anymore money changing flights.
Wow shocked at how smooth the experience was to get an emerency passport (without an appointment) On top of that federal staff with early morning smiles and thoroughly helpful attitudes in NYC???!! Amazing! btw I arrived at 730am and the line moved smoothly I was done in less than an hour in a Friday(had all my paperwork & picture and everything in advance)
Honestly, I am so thankful for this place. I was told to go early since I didnt have an appnt, since it opens at 730am I imagined 645 would be early enough. Wrong. The line was already wrapped around the block. Regardless though, after a 3hr wait outside....I was allowed into the building where since I had all my documents on hand was quickly taken care of and sent off to pick up my passport the next day since I didnt need it the same day. In the future Ill be sure to renew before it expires...but worse case scenario this was a life saver... Lucky to have this service available to us in a quick manner....despite the wait.
Try at 5 AM at 12 midnight They only open up about 2 to 3 slots which makes it impossible to secure an appointment I secured my appointment at 5 AM and plenty of slots was available you have a better chance at 5 AM make sure you fill in all the questions at 4:59 and once the clock turn to 5 hit next at that point just keep hitting next it will work
I was expecting the hated visit to the DMV at first. However, these are the nicest people in the world. From security, to everyone that helped me... everyone was so nice. I was in and out in 3 hours. Yes it was a long time... but thats how long it takes to print the passport. Just show up prepared with all your things. The workers are very understanding and helpful.
This is worst after so many endless try on the phone, I went to the regional office 376 Hudson St, NY, NY the guard there slammed the door on the people face they take no walks-in. You can’t even ask them a question they are so rude. They need to be more efficient it is useless trying to call their phone number or their online services because it useless completely useless. Worst experience ever👎
Absolutely AMAZING place!! Here’s my story; I had an issue with my passport renewal and DAYS before my actual flight I realized it was not correct. I called to make an appointment (as advised by my post office) and the earliest appointment was the Friday morning before I flew on Saturday!! I freaked out, made some additional phone calls, and read some reviews. I decided to go in as “walk in” on Tuesday morning. I planned on getting there pretty early as other reviews suggested, but I couldn’t get there until about 11:30a. I was so scared about there being a huge wait... until I got there!! There was ONE person in front of me. I walked in, got my ticket, by the time I went up to the 10th floor my ticket # was already being called!! I walked up signed my papers, paid (205 and change 🙄) and then was told it’d be printed by 3pm the next day! Such an amazing place the entire process took me maybe 30 minutes between the subway ride from penn, to the place, then back to penn. I even was able to send my boyfriend the next day to pick it up!! He walked in, showed my form, signed a paper, then left!Just some tips for you to make the process go super super fast and easy;Have the DS11 typed up and ready to goBring your old passport if possibleBring a copy of your birth certificateBring your license as well as a copy of itBring a form of payment (they accept $ order, credit, debit, checks, etc. but one thing to note if the card being used is not in your name, the card holder must be present)Bring your passport photoBring your travel interary and/or hotel reservationI’d throw all this stuff into one folder the night before this way you can just bring it all and go!
Best place to to go if you need a quickie passport. As long as you have the correct information, you will get your passport in about 24 hours. They only do day off if you are flying the next day, or the same day, which is crazy! As for the bad reviews, why would anyone leave getting their passport for the same day flight??? They do their best, but they cannot guarantee a quick turn around because the back ground info sometimes takes a while. Make sure you plan properly, and have all of your information correct, and you will be in and out, and pick up your passport the very next day. Most of the bad reviews are due to poor planning!
I was not allowed on my flight because my passport only had 2.5 months left before it expires. I was completely unaware that many countries now require at least 3 months if not 6 months before they expire. That was on Friday... I booked another flight for Monday at 5:15 pm not knowing if I would get a passport Monday or not. I arrived at 5:30 am even though they open at 7:30am and I was 9th in line. The doors opened at 7:30am and everyone without an appointment (all of us) waited in line B. I had everything they required, application, two photos, and my current passport. After they checked my info, I was told to go upstairs to the 10th floor where I waited until about 8:30am.. I paid the $170 fee and was told I should have the passport within 3 - 4 hours..... Around 11:50am, I had my new passport in hand with plenty of time to get to the airport for my flight. They were very efficient... Just go early!
We had absolutely the best experience in this place yesterday. We walked in at 8:40 a.m. and a very polite and helpful lady at counter #22 printed out our receipt at 9:05.Last time, we had a terrible experience in Sheepsheadbays post office which ended up with a complaint letter to the U.S. Post Master. Would never go to the post office for passport services.I would recommend everyone Hudson Street passport services office.
I can’t tell you the amount of times and headaches I dealt with until an angel named Brianna understood my situation and realized that sometimes things are not perfect and they happen. She took lead on helping me out in my last two visits, and ensured I would walk out with a passport!God bless you Brianna, I hope you duplicate your professionalism around the building.Lagniappe goes a LONG WAY!Thanks a lotRegina R
I went on a Tuesday, April 10th after I realized my passport is expired and have a flight the following morning. I did not have a scheduled appointment. The walk ins are only up until 3 pm. At 12 pm I walked right in, no line. I was seen within 5 minutes and my passport was ready in 4 hours. I brought all the necessary documentation which includes expired passport, application, passport photos and printed copy of my itinerary. You can pay by card. If you’re paying cash you need the exact amount. It was a very smooth process for a stressful day.
This place is amazing! Had an appointment and went in there yesterday (Friday) when I have a flight tomorrow (Sunday), walked in around 10:30am and walked out around 5pm with my passport, the whole process was very smooth and people there were very nice. Thanks to everybody who helped me get my passport that quickly.Amazing job!
I cannot say much about the walk-in services but this agency had my passport application for over 3 months. They do not communicate with you to tell you what is missing but keep sending out letters asking for the same documents without acknowledging what they have received. Calling the hotline is useless. They claim some one will call you but nobody ever does. I decided to give up but even the process of cancelling the application was a nightmare. I had a travel date coming up but the agency didnt care and it took them weeks just to return my documents to me.
Very easy experience but what was most amazing was the quality of service. Everyone I came in contact with who worked there was so nice. In my brief interactions with the information desk woman and the processing desk man, I smiled and laughed more than is normal for 8:30am at a government agency (or anywhere for that matter). I dreaded going to do this first thing in the morning and walked away feeling happy and comforted by the amazing human interactions with strangers.
Honestly... For a government agency... I am shocked at how kind the employees are and how quickly everything is executed. I made my appointment for Tuesday and I was flying to Europe Friday. My appointment was at 1 but I showed up super early (11AM) in hopes of finishing early. I was all checked in and went upstairs and did all the paper work and what not. Unfortunately the check I gave them was invalid so they called me to come back shortly after, and I paid exact cash. Its supposed to be ready tomorrow but I have work, so I will be picking it up Thursday morning. :)
The best government agency or public service Ive ever used. They are extremely efficient and fast.I was traveling to Canada in 2 weeks and had just realized that I needed a passport. I went to a regular passport office in Brooklyn and after an hour wait (typical for many public service offices), I was told that I have to call the expedited service for an appointment and that I would need to provide proof of travel. I went home and scheduled for an appointment at this agency in Manhattan and had all of the paperwork filled out and ready. I came in at appointment time, no wait, passes the security, I went into an empty line for appointments on the first floor. They checked all of my information and gave me a number and told me to go to the 10th floor. There the room was full but I barely waited for 3 to 5 minutes and my number was called. 10 minutes later they told me to come back for the passport the next day.No hassle, no wait, excellent service
Waited in line for 4.5 hours to renew my passport. The actual time spent submitting my paperwork to the clerk was roughly 3 minutes.Wait is a function of number customers, efficiency both of employees and customers, and number of employees taking applications. In my opinion the major bottleneck here is unprepared customers. I came prepared to submit the correct forms, stood in the correct line and spent 3 minutes processing my forms. The average processing time took 7 minutes due to people not having the right forms, not fully completing the forms or asking s ton of questions that could have been addressed by a simple google search. They should just have a stringent rule that all forms must be completed online and do a prescreening for correct paperwork at security check in.Increasing the number of clerks accepting applications would also help. Going from one clerk accepting renewals to 2 clerks cuts down the wait time by half. These simple measures would cut wait time down by 60-70%.
The most efficient government agency I have ever dealt with. 1 day turn around to get a passport for a very reasonable fee. The agents are all very professional and no time was wasted. In and out in minutes. I could not have been more pleased. It is the same security as at an airport terminal, no food or drink allowed inside. My passport was ready the next day at 3:00PM for pickup.

2022-05-27HONESTLY- the hardest part is getting an appointment before your flight. AFTER it’s a piece of cake. I kept calling and you have to time it so that when the clock hits 8am the final ring puts you through immediately after answering the prompts. I was able to get an appt. 2 weeks before my flight at 7:30am at the New York passport agency.-There was a line outside when I arrived at 7:00am so people show up EARLY. Don’t worry though some people were confused and didn’t know they needed an appointment. DO NOT COME if you don’t have an appointment they will do nothing I saw them turn around so many people.-Once I went through security I went to a first window that they made sure I had all my materials. Then I went upstairs and the 2nd window processed my payment and confirmed my travel and when my passport needed to be made. They saw my flight was the same day and EXPEDITED IT to be done in 2 hours but it actually still took around 3 hrs. I stayed and waited but you could leave and come back. Overall by 11:10am I left with my passport !-They do their best to be efficient and some of the workers were actually really nice and friendly. They understand every1 is on edge and do their best to process everything quickly.

2022-01-26I called 8 am on the day I was told to call 2 weeks before my flight and was on hold for less than a minute, got an appointment 9:30 am on the day before my flight. I was there 9: 15 , got in at 9:30 and was out at 9: 45. Went back 2 pm to get my passport. The staff was amazing, so helpful and understanding. I realize not everybody is lucky to get an appointment, especially at busy travelling times but if you do get an appointment and have all your paperwork ready, they try their very best to get the work done fast and efficient.

2022-06-28Once you have an appointment, youre good. I am writing this review about the people and workers only. You definitely have to wait, BUT the people working make it amazing. They are so kind, efficient and helpful. I was very anxious about getting my passport in time and they assured me they would be able to help me. They had a smile on their face and were extremely helpful. Thank you to all the employees!!!!

2022-06-03Gave a call on May 23rd for an urgent passport renewal. They’ve assigned an appointment for me the day OF my flight and that’s totally fine but the issue here is I’ve spoken to two representatives over the phone and neither of them sent me an email confirmation nor took down my name for my scheduled date [which was confirmed for me over the phone for JUNE 3, 8:30am]. Soon as I tried to get in, I wasn’t allowed to enter without an email confirmation. I then gave a call to their office and unfortunately there was no compensation given after the inconvenience. All I was told was “unfortunately you NEED an email confirmation” and it’s understandable but when I gave a call on May 23, 2022, I questioned why no one took my name down or has given me a confirmation, but the representative assured me none of it was needed. Please make sure you request an email confirmation once you get on the line with them for your scheduled appointment date!!!!!

2022-06-03They didnt let us in until exactly a few minutes after our appointment time. Dont show up early, your feet will thank you. Otherwise, validating docs was a breeze ... then upstairs you wait for your number to be called. Adults go faster then kids so be patient. From entry to exit it took 1.5 hrs. We picked up the next day and that was about 20 mins but it all depends on your travel date. Same day service is available. All staff was professional and courtesy. Be on your best behavior and everything will be OK...

2022-05-06WARNING: they say you have 15 minutes grace period beyond your appt time, but there is a queue outside the building and you will NOT be able to enter the building yourself. You have to wait until they come out to call the next group and tell them you were part of an earlier group. It is now 15 minutes past my appt time and nobody has come back out yetTl;dr get here before your appt time

2022-06-16Overall the process was pretty smooth! There was a lot of anxiety trying to get an appointment ( they get booked extremely fast) but I was lucky enough the get one the day before I needed to travel. The security guards out front were strict (rightfully so) but very kind and kept things well organized. Make sure you are prepared with all of your documents (even things you think you won’t need) and expect to wait hours to get your passport ( I waited about 6/7 hours)

2022-04-20Most of the employees treated me like garbage. I had to renew my passport for an urgent medical travel and not only they gave me an attitude for letting my old passport expire but had me fill out four different forms only to say that the original one I completed was the correct one. There is line outside that lets people in with appointments and if you need to pick up your passport you have to wait to show your receipt to a security guard that comes out every 10 minutes or so, not very organized location. Youd think working for a government agency they will have little more respect for citizens, but I guess paying $225 for a service doesnt mean anything to them.

2022-06-24Do not.. I repeat.. DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU DONT HAVE AN APPOINTMENT. I saw people get turned away with literal infants in their hands on the verge of tears. They will tell you to call the number on the door (the same number you’ve been calling for the past two weeks). Also, if you DO have an appointment, especially a AM one, make sure you come like 45-1hr early to get a good spot and bring SNACKS. My appointment was today at 8:00AM and I had to wait six hours (you can leave the building. They give you a receipt that says “waiting” for re-entry/pickup.) I picked up my printed passport at 1:30PM same day.Lastly, they take all major credit cards, debit cards, checks, and money orders.Good luck and safe travels
