No cellphone service in most of their rooms… WIFI has been down for almost A YEAR. Front desk keeps saying it’s being worked on. Sauna has never been functional. Other than that it’s great. Don’t come here if you plan to stream music.Update: sauna is working! They brought back towels! Still NO WIFI. They rope off large areas for “paid training only” which is mildly annoying. Still a great gym/price for NY.
Its an okay gym. The.location is convenient and I like to hang out in Central Park. The equipment is starting to show some signs of aging, but most of it works. The last time I was, the pulldown machine in the weight room was out of order, but the one in the main area was working. The shower area is kept clean, but the towel service is no longer available.
Just like previous comments, wifi is always down, no cell signal in most of there rooms , recently there is only 1 free bench in the weight section the other 3 that are supposed to be there were taken out for what I assume is the personal training section. I live 2 min away from this location and still prefer to travel to a better equipped location.
The people who work at this gym are *SO* nice for the most part. I still remember how welcome the staff at this gym made me feel when I first move to NYC; they made the gym feel like a second home! It was really sweet. The facilities are pretty good (especially for the price you are paying in NYC), and the members are generally respectful when it comes to sharing machines/keeping spaces clean. There are two staff members who can be rather patronizing to women. However, avoid them and youll be fine (trust me, youll learn who they are once you enter this gym).
This gym is inhabited by people too lazy & ill- mannered to clean their sweat off machines they’ve bogarted for 39 minutes (30 on their phone, 9 using the machine). The staff rarely cleans, machines are broken, no internet, no attention paid to member behavior. In all, a horrible gym
I have never written a review like this in my life, but I feel that people should be aware of this before signing up for NYSC 73rd: you will be charged continually past cancellation for MONTHS with no way to get in touch with a club manager or speak to HQ. I was a member in October/November 2020 with personal training, and had a formal letter of cancellation from the manager in my inbox December 10, 2020. January 2021, my old trainer reached out to see if I wanted to resume classes since I had 2 outstanding. I tried to confirm with the club that I was cancelled, and they said it would be going through March 3rd. March 4th I check my credit card statement and there is a charge for $297 -- a whole new package of personal training lessons after four months from cancellation of lessons! I have been trying to contact the club for a month via e-mail and phone calls and I have heard NO confirmation. Instead, I get put on hold -- Im currently on hold for 14 minutes RIGHT NOW.TL;DR: Do not sign up for this gym. They will underdeliver value and then overcharge until you cancel your actual financial card.
I like this gym for its convenience and location, but they need more freeweights! Only TWO benches to lift dumbbells and only ONE powerlifting stand. The free weight area is tucked all the way in the back with poor ventilation and is always overcrowded (despite an 8-person limit). Multiple times I’ve come with intent to push through a free weight session and end up waiting 20-30minutes for people to get off their phones and clear the stations!
During this Covid times I informed the staff that 20% of the members are NOT wiping down the equipment after use. Something needs to be done! The back weight room is so small that it is over-crowded sometimes and ppl stay there searching on their phones hogging the equipment. With half of the machines not in use due to social distance signs/ tape on them, the showers/ sauna not working - yet we are still charges full price membership fee??
Poor communication and rude staff. Not professional at all. Due to the current situation, I tried to cancel my membership and sent a few emails to the manager, but I still havent heard. Called the club to speak with someone that the manager is the only one can handle and said she gets thousands of emails per day. Also, said I am not the only one who is waiting the response. That is not an excuse that the manager didnt reply it. Also, I dont need to hear how busy she is. We are all busy. Also, dont believer to get thousands of emails per day. If then, please show. Lastly, even you are busy, you cant just ignore and no response at all.
I live in the same building - talk about convenient! - and Im a longtime member but I cant take it any more. They had overcharged me in the past but this year takes the cake: after freezing my membership at the start of the pandemic, they resumed charging my credit card on Sept. 1 without notifying me. I wasnt even in New York at the time. When I discovered this in mid-November and showed up in person to formally cancel, not only didnt they care about the prior charges but they informed me they would continue charging me for Dec and Jan as well! (My credit card company says there is nothing I can do to block the charges short of cancelling the entire card). Its a huge hassle that I dont need from my gym. My advice: Stay away!
I was very unhappy with how some staff responded to questions about A/C In the Club this past weekend; but I am very happy to report that Management was extremely attentive and responsive.Problems in old buildings will always arise; as long as the staff is responsive/friendly, it is understandable!
At first glance, this is a decent gym. Then you see the tiny closet their cram all the free weights into in the back and how old and rusted all the weights are and you realize this is not a great gym unless you only want to use the cardio equipment. If they replaced the 2nd room with a few new full racks (not those terrible Smith machines nobody uses) and added a second area for dumbbell exercises, this gym would be 4 stars in my book.
Im a fairly new member and am overall enjoying the facility. While the equipment appears to be old it all works great (except the right cable fly machine in the main room. Sometime it gets stuck when doing cable flys). Once you get the layout of the gym, workouts become a lot easier to plan and that long hallway to the weight room doesnt seem like such a big run.My biggest complaint is I have yet to have a front desk guy or girl say hello or really even crack a smile when I arrive (its not just this location, the other locations are no better at this). This doesnt affect the ability to get a good workout or enjoy your time there at all, it would just be nice for the front desk people not to look like its the last place they literally want to be.
It used to be a good local gym. The front desk staff are friendly and helpful but not the managers since there was a change a couple of months ago. This is a place for people wanting basic workouts. During the past 6 months the equipment breaks down frequently and takes a long time to be repaired.
Equipment, especially the treadmills, is constantly broken. There is currently four treadmills broken, one of which has been broken since December. The inclines dont work on the newer treadmills. The machines either dont have TVs or the TVs are fuzzy. Machines that arent broken are falling apart. They just raised the prices $10 in January but I dont know where the extra money is going. I am ready to cancel my membership because I have grown so frustrated with their services.
This gym has decent equipment and this location has a lot of space. It can get crowded during peak times, but its doable. The reason I put a low rating is because of the cancelation process. I called in to cancel and was told that it went through for both me and my boyfriend. Later, I got charged even though I cancelled. I called in to discuss and it took weeks to get a manager on the phone. Then when someone finally called me, they said there was no note on my account that I canceled, even though the previous associate confirmed it. Then they told me I still had to pay another month due to cancelation policy. Pretty unfair to ask me to pay for a mistake your employees made. It shouldnt be my responsibility to follow up to ensure my cancelation went through. The rates are competitive compared to other gyms, but if you choose to cancel, expect some issues and complications.Edit: the manager emailed me back notifying me that he cancelled the accounts and we will not have to pay the next month. It was much appreciated, but a bit of a pain and a fair amount of fighting.
Never become a member here. The machines are frequently broken, towels are no where to be found. I cancelled my membership last June, spoke to three managers, called my credit card company to prevent them from continuing to charge my account, and 7 months later I am still getting emails asking me to pay my past balance. The management is atrocious. Please don’t join.
I can’t speak to this location, but good luck to anyone trying to cancel a membership at NYSC. My location closed during COVID (62nd street location in UWS). I moved out of NYC, couldn’t get into contact with anyone, and had to mail a certified letter to get my membership canceled. Low and behold, I just got a monthly charge for February 2021. This business is trying to scam people, making it entirely impossible to get out of a membership. Would not recommend.
I have been a member here for nearly five years, mostly because it’s in my building. I got a surprise $10/ month increase in my fees and I went to the office. Don’t mind paying more if the service is good, but this gym chronically has things that don’t work— the same things broken for months. Got lots of lip service about how everything is getting better. Not
Nice facility, friendly stuff, have been going there for years. But I have to give it a 1 star rating because its impossible to cancel your membership with them. 5 months of coming in person and calling to cancel and they still charge my card! Update, its been 8 months. At this point going to the police
I would have given this gym 0 stars it that was possible. The gym is a 3 star gym but the service level is 0. I have been a member for over 2 years. Mostly because of the price and location. 20 days ago I came to the gym to cancel my membership because I am moving to Sweden. I had to fill out a form and I wrote that I wanted my last gym day to be end of June. Next day I get a call from them telling me that I cant cancel so early in advance. They tell me I have to come back later. This seende like a joke to me. Anyway. Today I went back again today to cancel and now they are telling me that it takes 45 days to cancel!!! When I tried to explain that I already had been there 20 days and also showed the picture they were very rude and agressive and didnt want to deal with me.
Staff is nice but (a) it frequently smells like garbage and the staff doesn’t seem to notice since they’re sitting in it all day and (b) the machines are consistently broken, including often more than half of the same machines so that there is intense competition and hovering just to get on a stairmaster. Both of these things are within their control so I blame them for not fixing them.
Really love the classes - The instructors are excellent, and dedicated. The facility and equipment at the 73rd street location is fine and they try to keep it clean. However they are cheap on the shampoo stuff - used to have hair conditioner - it has disappeared from all NY sports clubs
Due to Covid, I tried last March to discontinue my membership as I moved out of state. After the club closed down with no staff on location, no corporate phone number or email on the website, I left detailed information with the websites Contact Us page requesting a discontinuation. Guess what? Never heard back from the company until I see addituonal charges against my account last month (October). After calling and providing an email of.a screenshot of my request from last March the company did not refund the October charge saying I needed to either come to the club in person ( I no longer live in the vicinity of a NYSC) or send a certified letter to the club requesting a discontinuance. This after hearing NOTHING from this NYSC over the past months. A greedy outfit with zero customer service, if you ask me....
Ive been going here for years. Has all the weight and cardio equipment youd need. Has areas for stretching and crossfit activities. It does get crowded from 5-7p, but clears out around 8p. Weight room is disorganized, but thats on the unaware members who dont rerack. Overall, gym is spacious and friendly.
This location is the poster child for any negative stereotype you have ever heard about TSI or NYSC. Missing sanitary wipes, M.I.A. management, dirty equipment, stained towels, broken faucets in the lockerroom and no soap. The service quality is so bad here that half the TVs on the cardio equipment are broken or have been physically removed from the machines so I guess at least they stopped pretending the TVs were working at all.I have tried to get answers for months from the front desk, GM, the Regional Business Director, and the Market Director, and am still waiting. The front desk knows nothing, and I was ignored by the other 3. The negative stereotypes about TSI are all true unfortunately.
CANT RELY ON MORNING WORKOUTS HERE... Twice within one week, stood outside waiting for the gym to be opened at its proper time of 5:30am! It was after 6am a trainer, on the inside, looked up and saw us all waiting in the cool damp weather, let us in. Still no NYSC team member was insight.
I canceled my membership 3 months ago as I moved out of area, when I saw my card kept getting billed I emailed manager who said he had no proof I canceled it prior. So for two months I was being billed and would have continued to if I had not inquired. Manager was difficult to deal with over email.
Dirty, run down gym. Broken machines, missing pins, and often loud music despite the fact that at least 90% of members are wearing earbuds trying to enjoy their own sounds. Even the entry door is usually broken and ajar. Nobody would go out of their way to visit this dump. I go because it is 300 feet from my door.On the other hand, the staff is pleasant.
Ridiculous policies! Refusal to cancel via phone or email(even though during covid era we received emails regarding cancellation option via email, they did not process the request and continue to charge for my wife’s membership and babysitting)!Just stay away from NYSC since they will not help in any way if you will have any problems
Run down overpriced gym...seriously, the horrible planet fitness is nicer. Weight room is decrepit, weight machines are often out of service, locker room always smells, TV on cardio machine dont work half the time and wifi connection is not strong enough to handle pandora (which completely defeats the purpose of having wifi)
Absolutely terrible experience cancelling my membership at this location--avoid at all costs!!! I went in and cancelled over 7 months ago and kept getting notices that I had an overdue balance and the only person I could speak with to settle my account was Andrei Fields, the general manager. The staff kept calling trying to collect an undisclosed balance and said I needed to speak with Andrei, always passing along the message because he wasnt available then they finally stopped calling. I now have received a letter from a collection agency for the last 5+ months of member fees. I called the collection agency and the corporate office and they both said I needed to speak with Andrei. I went in to speak with Andrei today, who first pretended to be in a meeting (I said I would wait, then saw the Assistant Manger was getting texts from him), then went out and knocked on the window to get his attention. He came to the door, pretending to be on a conference call while we spoke, and said that there was nothing he could do to help, referring me to someone at another location. I just called the corporate line and they confirmed that only my home studio could solve this issue. Terrible management and mediocre facilities...AVOID!
Staff friendly, but theres a MAJOR problem with members re-racking weights--and staff and management ignoring it. I see elderly people trying to lift 45lb weight plates off of machines on a regular basis. Members should be reminded by staff that it is against the rules to leave all your plates and free weights lying around and stacked on machines. It is rude, inconsiderate, and downright dangerous for those who cant lift the heavier weights.
Open space,,,well-rounded equipment. best nysc on the upper west side. if you have a choice between it and 80th, pick 73rd. very convenient. 80th st has the worst management on uws.atrocious maintenance. cardio machines that need repair FOR MONTHS. one in particular for over a year. ive purposely left a bottle and paper towel near a cardio or on the window sill that were never picked up for a full week
Well Shayne was a reason to take classes shes gone ..not a lot of 6.5+ ladies here. The staff could be more diverse maybe a few Iowa farm boys . oh and this is the bubble people no social interaction everyone is wooden drop dead could care less about anyone .but thats the neighborhood Amish or Jewish or something
Staff is friendly and at first seemed like a reasonable deal but way over priced for what you get there machines don’t work and maybe I’m new here and it’s a one time thing but as I checked the reviews I see the same thing I asked staff about it and was told to use a different location if I’m not happy with a machine
No AC. No disinfectants. Machines broke for months. Staff is nice but management is severly lacking. These are 3 basic things. Sauna, showers and steam room are the least of your worries. So sad to see this gym fall apart. Many of us have been here for years. Im so disappointed to see this. Im going to have to look for a new gym. You have a great location and space. Its worth fixing.

2022-04-19This NYSC has the best staffs! They are always friendly and very helpful! The gym is spacious and clean. My only complain is there is no shampoo and body wash in the shower which I clearly saw there are loads of them in the storage.

2022-04-13Very friendly and helpful staff. Very good range of equipment and access to personal trainers at a reasonable cost. Had a very satisfactory and enjoyable time at the gym. Now leaving as moved away and have a gym in my new building. Sad to be leaving.

2022-06-111. Can never find matching dumbbells, very disorganized weight room that no one ever reassembles.2. Paper towels, soap, etc. almost never refilled.3. Broken machines across the gym. A cable pulldown machine in the middle room has been broken for weeks.4. A/C has been broken and the whole gym feels like a sauna.5. Plates are just dirty.6. The incline function doesn’t work on half the treadmills.Overall not worth signing up and am looking to switch gyms since these problems have existed for months with no sign of change.

2022-04-11They are not very customer oriented. They have closed the showers in the women’s locker room. First it was supposed to be for two days. And then the two days became five days. And when you ask about it they give you the cold shoulder. Even when the showers were open they did not provide any soap, shampoo, conditioner or hair dryers. You can go to the other clubs but if you have the membership for this club only they need to notify the other clubs if you want to use another club that has showers. I tried to do that but the manager is always absent or ill. I am praying for his or her speedy recovery…………….This club is not recommended.

2022-06-11The AC has been broken for months and there are no signs it will be fixed anytime soon. Equipment breaks all the time and they take forever to fix it. The mirror walls are constantly cracked and shattered. Usually tough to find matching weights. Im strongly considering quitting and going to Crunch instead.

2022-05-21The AC doesn’t work. The personal trainers take more and more floor space for themselves. Lights are frequently broken. All equipment from the 90s. The worst NYSC in NY.I read below that the manager said they’re undergoing significant changes… here’s the big change: they painted the walls

2019-04-05I have been a member at this gym since 2008, when I moved to the neighborhood.Over the past year this gym has fallen into a worsening state of disrepair and overuse. Half of the treadmills are out of order/broken with signs on them(more than half on the bottom floor). The tv and music plugins have not been updated or do not work. The spinning classes are always booked at capacity online(looking at 8 am this am, the 930,1030, and 1130 are already full for tomorrow). The front desk personnel are extremely rude when you go to check in or ask to be placed on a waitlist. The plastic on almost all of the dials to adjust the cycle’s heights are broken. As noted before, because the classes are at capacity, and the treadmills are broken, it really limits what is available to be used. Members can either see the classes are at capacity online and don’t go to the gym, take your chances that someone doesn’t show for class, or take your chance that you can hop on one of three working treadmills. To top it all off, even the water bottle vending machine is out of order (it has been for at least three months now), which makes it quite difficult when you forget a bottle. What are we paying these steep gym membership fees for if they are not going towards fixing equipment, increasing the number of classes offered, updating the gym, or hiring helpful front desk staff? Very upsetting. Don’t join this gym:/

2021-10-01Some of these reviews are overly critical for no reason. Im a city newcomer, and Ive been to some really nice gyms back home; this NYSC is no exception. For the most, the equipment is in good shape, and virtually everything you could want is there. The staff have always been very kind, and are super attentive to questions (not to mention, the pricing is pretty good comparable to the gyms in the area). Only downsides might be cell service in a couple rooms, but otherwise it seems to be fine. If youre looking for a general gym at a good price w/ some extra classes if youre want those, this is definitely a good option.

2019-04-27This gym has been having massive issues with broken equipment. The treadmills are frequently broken. On many of the newer ones the incline feature is broken. The TVs either dont work or get fuzzy reception - about a year ago they all stopped working properly. The leg extension machine broke for over two months. Now one of two rowing machines is broken. One day 5 different machines were broken, and thats not even counting the treadmills! Theres clearly no policy or urgency to repair equipment here. For a week now, there as been a ladder in the middle of the floor, see photo. Just an example of how things go here. This gym does not care about its members or maintaining a space that NYSC can take pride in. I have visited other locations and never seen so much broken equipment before. I emailed Daniel Smith, who has signs up requesting feedback and received no response. The gym is also very dirty. I visited one is Chelsea and saw how their crew cleans. It was shocking as Ive never ever seen a staff member spray down a machine at this location. And it shows.Weights are not re-racked. Ive numerous times had to ask assistance to get weights off a machine. Its is often hard to find 7.5 to 15 lbs weights. If you dare interrupt the packed yoga class, then you can get weights from there and drag them upstairs. Otherwise, you can spend 10 minutes of your workout wandering around the gym looking for weights. Either way, you have to spend the rest of your workout protecting those weights, as God forbid some jerk snags them from you, he will be unlikely to give them back (this happens). The weight room is down a hallway and crammed and the only space with benches. Its an unpleasant space to workout and there is no cell reception. Have fun there with men grunting and dropping 75+ pound weights from shoulder height and feeling like there is an earth quake. This gym only has members because the price difference between it and equinox is so large. But there are other options, and location cant make up for this many shortcomings. Go somewhere else.
