There’s ZERO AC or any air for that matter on most floors but really floor two is so hot that you can barely work out. I tried to run on a treadmill and almost passed out because it feels hotter inside than it does outside. Why do we pay more than other gyms and not have any cool air on certain floors??To be fair, they plugged up a few smallFans on floor 2 but it’s just blowing around already hot air.
The ONLY reason I would give this Club location less than perfect score is because it doesnt get HGTV--but its manager even responded to that issue!Incredibly well maintained. There is pride from Management at this Club, which there is not at any other NYSC Club I have ever been to. It isnt that air conditioning doesnt go out, etc.--it is that Management rushes to fix it. They actually care about their members. It is a pleasure to work out here. I would work out here every day if it were not for the HGTV issue.
The worst gym ever. Ive been going to gyms for over 40 years and this place is the worst run ever. Unless you are paying their trainers, the management, trainers and staff will treat you like second rate citizens. They have no gym rules posted and the trainers can claim work out machines when there is only one like it, for as long as they like, whether they are training a client or working out themselves, sometimes taking up two machines at a time. If you ask them how long they are going to be, they take offense and management will back them up and throw you out claiming you are being disrespectful. When you call the corporate office, they simply say they cant override the managers decision, so there is no oversight. The locker rooms are not safe and have break-ins all the time and have locker doors falling off their hinges. Paint is falling from the ceilings and machines dont work half the time. You can have a much better experience at either Blink or Planet Fitness for $10.00 bucks a month for a much better gym experience.
Stay away from this gym - I signed up for a $5 ten day opportunity to try out the gym and was automatically enrolled in an annual membership despite the fact I did not sign up for it.Now they want to charge me an additional $100 for cancelling despite the fact I did not use the gym. Conveniently, their corporate number is not accepting calls at this time and the sales rep and manager have not responded to me.Nonetheless, the gym is of poor quality. It is evident they are desperate for clients and are willing to get money however possible. Seems like I am not the only one who has gone through this so please contact me if you have had a similar experience.
I go to this gym for one reason and one reason only, Tonys boot camp classes. Whether there are 4 people or 14 people, Tony s classes are always super challenging for all ages and levels of fitness. I appreciate that hes always watching form and making sure that Im using the correct weight, etc. No two classes are the same! The gym itself is very clean, brightly lit and filled with friendly staff. Im not from N.Y. so I had to gym shop for a bit before I found something that fit, but Im really happy here!
One of the most friendliest staff members that will greet you every morning. She remembers your name. Its like your walking onto the set of Cheers. Her memory is that good. They always have towels too and its a 5 floor layout. Top floor is a 3rd party Physical Therapy service. I dont believe they have a pool or sauna, but I could be mistaken on the latter.Equipment is older and studio floors are older, but its fairly large square footage overall.
This is one of the worst run gyms ever. They put as little money into fixing the equipment as possible. I went today to do cardio and watch football on CBS....not a TV I the place worked. I had to walk to the 73rd street location and most of the TVs there don’t work either. In addition, to this many times they don’t have any towels.....and they just try to sign up more people so it’s too crowded and increase the cost. All while instituting price escalation so you pay more for less. How can the TVs and cardio machines always be broken!!!!!
This gym is A TRAP!! And all my friends warned me about it, i regret the fact that I ended up getting a membership in this gym is literally a nightmare. DO NOT go there, there’s plenty of good gyms in the city and NYSC isn’t one. They keep charging you without you noticing it, and when you try to talk to someone they will refuse to refund you of. STAY AWAY FROM THIS GYM.On top of all this, the gym is old and dirty.
Ive been coming here for awhile. The staff is friendly enough. I dont care for people trying to be my bestie. If I have a problem, they are usually accommodating. Everything works fine, and it is generally clean. Its a more mature crowd, which is perfect for me!! Most people here are doing cardio, while I get a good workout with free weights!!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 There are always plenty of towels and the locker room is clean enough, for a locker room. (Im here for a workout, not a spa day.) It serves the purpose.
I’ve been a NYSC member for a few years for only one reason - I get a discount through work and it’s cheap. For me, saving money for retirement is more important than being in a gym that smells nice or has the newest equipment. That said, I’ve had about enough.I went there tonight hoping to get in a workout. Normally I spin at W 73 on Monday night, but that gym was closed due to a flooding issue. W 73 is a dump too, but this place was even worse. On top of that, there were nearly no machines open for use. The ones that were open had issues or were broken entirely. I just left in frustration. All the gyms and personnel operate as if NYSC is going out of business. The W 76 location just shut down permanently so perhaps that’s the case. Either way, I’ll be a member of a new gym shortly.
The A/C hasn’t worked on the 4th floor for over a month now and no one seems to care. I’ve spoken to the new manager a few times and he doesn’t seem to know when it will be fixed. You will find weights all over the floor. The crowd that goes to the 4th floor doesn’t bother to keep the weights organized. The men’s locker room is filthy. They also raised my membership by $10 dollars without any notification. I’ve been complaining about that for six months now and they didnt fix it. Going to another club!
Wish I read the reviews before I joined. Stay away. GM plays marketing guru and the packages offered LITERALLY change every 3 days (I kept getting texts after my signup). Have attempted to charge me twice under a different purchasing method. No unlimited guest passes. Unsanitary and lack of maintenance. Machines are old, dingy and in need of replacements. Whole place is like walking into a decaying gym from the 1970s. Sauna was broken, restroom door was broken, some locker doors, also broken; sanitizing unit also broken; hot water runs out after ten minutes -- and all the showers have different shower heads. There was no mat on the shower floor coming out of the stall for about an entire month and almost fell several times. Slimey locker room floor to boot. It just feels way too dusty and suspect. Make sure to take a walk through before joining and follow your intuition...
I wish I knew where to even begin with the 80th street and Broadway location for New York Sports Club. Everything from terrible management, trainers getting upset because you wont sign with them, and club members who get away with making your gym experience uncomfortable.Ive been at this location for about five years because its where I first started training with one of my best friends from college. He since left and I stayed because I became quite close with some of the trainers who were working when I started. At first the experience was gratifying and I enjoyed going... for the first year.As management began to change, Ive had more than enough negative experiences to remember. Starting with dues that were supposed to be locked in at $30 when I started, they slowly began to increase to $60 over the next few years. When I asked, they said the company is allowed to increase dues in accordance with gym improvements. Then one day, they overcharged my credit card three times the amount of my dues, and when I tried to ask the general manager (Greg) about it he tried to dismiss my claim and would not hear me out until I went to my credit card company. After confirming it was the gyms issue, he still tried to shoo me away until I told him I was getting police involved because I was suspecting some kind of money laundering going on. Lo and behold, Greg finally said he would look into it, and a week later came back to apologize and said it was an administrative error with an older club members account. The kicker; a month later they charged me for that same amount again, adding a $400 balance to my credit card. Back again I went so they could finally stop charging me.The other day, I had another irritated club member threaten to find me while I was outside so he could assault me. The reason being because at some point while we were working out, something about me bothered him and he began to insult me in spanish. When he realized I understood him, the threats began. I informed the front desk as well as the General Manager, and they ultimately only put a note under his account and left it at that. Now more recently, they terminated my friends account because they saw him watching me stretch and became worried he was an external trainer trying to drive away business. In the process of doing so, we had the clubs Business Manager Khaly become impatient and scream at us until he had us exit the club.I could write a longer essay on everything else thats wrong; between the sexual and inappropriate activity that occurs in the Mens locker room, the uncomfortable glare certain trainers give you when you train and dont want their assistance, down to regular maintenance and machines always being broken.Today I finally cancelled my membership and signed up for a gym (NOT NYSC) a little farther away, but well worth it.DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY.Edit: To the a**hole that handles the automatic replies in this comment section; that e-mail doesnt even reply. I e-mailed that address before even leaving a comment, and the only thing I received was an automated response saying please give us 48 hours to answer. Its been 4 days.Get your sh*t together.
This is a place of love and hate. Great teachers and overall clean but gym area smells bad/sweat. Also, the sales people dont know anything so they sign you up with over charges on the credit card, or they forget to freeze it when you ask, or they say is one price but your statement shows there is an annual fee that no one told you about. Also, the front desk people could be nicer/friendlier.
I sent an email requesting that my account be frozen until May when I get back from college. I don’t have a lot of money on me, so it wouldn’t make sense to keep the account active and have them continue charging me. I come to find out that over the span of three months, they’ve been charging my account the monthly fee without any notification or follow up to my last email. I can’t afford specific supplies I need for my projects, and requested that I just have the money sent back to my account. Now and all they can do is offer me a complimentary training session that I had to negotiate with the same man who was SUPPOSED to freeze my account while I was till in class. They don’t care about you. You’re a number to these people and your money is more valuable than you to them.
This club is so dirty. They spray the locker rooms to kill vermin during opening hours and fail to tell the clientele. I only knew when an employee mentioned the smell and said they had just sprayed. There is always equipment that’s broken and not fixed for weeks. And the membership staff is so scummy you feel like you need to shower after having a conversation with them. They’re all like used car salesmen. Go elsewhere!
I wanted to get back to the gym, but needed some motivation. I Started attending UXF training three days a week with Tony Herrera and its been life changing. Tony takes pride in making sure his students are enjoying class and getting a great/safe workout. Its not an easy class, but members of all fitness levels are welcomed by Tony with the same enthusiasm and professionalism.
Not necessarily the greatest gym Ive ever been to but locations all over the city this is worth the membership. This gym is awkwardly planned due to its space occupying 2 buildings. 5 levels of gym space in its main building and 2nd floor is where it opens up into the other building. All the necessary weight equipment is here as well as the cardio machines. Lots of classes offered for the ones that need them. This gym also has men and women locker rooms equipped with showers, steam room and sauna.
Ive been having a very good experience and have seen good results at this gym over the past months. I joined with a goal of getting into better shape, losing a few pounds and getting stronger. I went the personal trainer route and was paired up with Shakim Jefferson. Turned out great. Shakim is a motivator and an inspiration and also has a great personality and sense of humor. That helps when your pushing yourself to get results. Bottom line is that I shed about 10 pounds, got much stronger and feel better. Keeping it going now with the classes included in the membership.
Been a member for more than a decade and ready to leave. Many of the front desk staff barely acknowledge you or muster a hello. Hit or miss on the equipment. Often broken for days on end. So tired of this mediocrity.Today I arrived for a spin. One bike has no seat . On the bike I am on, the program interface shuts down after a few minutes. 3rd bike seat leans forward so hard to use. The latter 2 bikes have had these issues for weeks. Does the club care? Dont think so. And as usual, the front desk person mildly grunted at me on my way in.
Members are not supervised spending more time on their cell phones than using the machine/ bench they are sitting on. Members DO NOT put back their equipment, No Supervision. The mens Sauna is closed because Members are not supervised. What happened to the OLD NYSC where people wiped down their used equipment, or put the used equipment away. Where are the managers - hiding?
Tonys UXF classes are the reason I go to this gym! Tony is able to focus on the individual and our skill level even in the class environment. He keeps the classes challenging and varied, motivates you to keep pushing yourself, and makes sure you are working on your form performing at your best. I have learned a ton about lifting and form, and have made strength and fitness gains in the time I have been working out with him. The rest of the staff is friendly and helpful, and the facilities are clean and functional. Its a great place to work out.
Dont join this gym if you ever plan on canceling. The UWS location told me repeatedly that the only way to cancel was in person with a manager, so I made 3 attempts to visit them in person to cancel before moving, and on all 3 occasions the front desk told me there was no manager on duty.Eventually I had to move away and tried repeatedly to call the location to cancel but each time I was told that the manager had just stepped out. I literally called 14 times over a month and a half time frame, at various times of the day on different days. I got this response every single time.I even called the corporate member services and was told that they would cancel my account for me (which is in direct contradiction to what everyone at the UWS location said was possible), however even THEY didnt cancel the membership after they said they would and I continued to get charged each month.Seriously, before you join make sure you look this place up on consumer affairs. They have a 1/5 star rating with 79 reviews. This company is unbelievably fraudulent and I had no idea based on the yelp reviews I read. They dont paint the whole picture at all. If you join this gym you will definitely end up regretting it.
Staff is ALWAYS friendly and attentive but definitely corporate could stand to require all staff to attend refresher customer relations and protocol classes regularly (that’s just based on my opinion as a consumer and business owner). Great set up y equipment. Always clean. Would highly recommend NYSC to anyone.
Horrible experience!!! Ive been trying to reach a manager or someone who could cancel my subscription since I keep getting charged month to month, even though I moved out of the city over a year ago. They will give you the run around and are pretty cut and dry even over the phone. I wouldnt recommend anyone to sign up here.. heed my warning.
My husband and I have been members since 2007. There is always someone to greet you with a smile at the front desk and the general manager, Joe, is great. Plenty of equipment and comfortable locker rooms. But mostly, my trainer, Shakim Kareem Jefferson, makes it worthwhile I have trained with Shakim for the last three years and intend to continue as long as hell have me. He is a ray of sunshine in that club. Ask any member!
West 80 Broadway overcrowded old equipment. And a little dirty. Front desk courteous. Most customers never follow the rules of sharing equipment. Customer service corporate inferior. Trainers respectful courteous and knowledgeable professionals. One, the flaw it looks like a homeless shelter.
I have been a member since July 1, 2015, take only Silver Sneakers classes (I am 91 yrs old). My male nurse usually walks me there and returns to pick me up. When I joined I was told he could take classes free if he was with me. He does not. Today, he came to pick me up, and was not allowed in by two new bozos at the desk. When I called for a manager after I returned home, I was given a snotty female person. When I asked for her name, she hung up. Good manners are sorely lacking in this facility. The Silver Sneakers instructors are mostly nice, as are most of the receptionists. Why are the rest so nasty?? roslyn willett
Horrible gym If I could give them 0 stars I would give them 0They tried to push me towards membership again and again and I asked them to cancel in April. they said they cancelled but they kept charging me.I would not be a member of them anymore and I am not interested in being a member and they still kept charging me after I asked them many many times to cancel they confirmed the cancellation but kept charging me.That is bad business would not recommend at all
Wish I could give it less than one star..this place is HORRIBLE. I moved from NYC in November - realized I was still being charged and called / emailed in December to cancel, they told me they needed 30 days notice to cancel, so I took the hit knowing it was my fault I didnt cancel sooner and gave my 30 days right then in December, over the phone and via email. Here we are in MAY, and I am STILL being charged. Do not sign on a membership here, they will just continue to take your money .. even if you cancel! I now have to cancel my debit card so they cant take my money anymore. They owe me around $250! Very unfortunate a poor way to run a business. Look elsewhere, I will never return.
This gym has a lot going for it for my husband and I - great location, friendly staff, decent machines and facilities until they decided that Tonys Uxf class was more important than anything else.. but consistently, every day, without fail since the beginning of 2017, it has been FAR TOO HOT on every floor of this gym. The second floor where the treadmills and other cardio machines are (plus the UXF, which replaced weight machines that made sense to use after cardio, which have now been moved to the fourth floor) is always far too hot - on a regular summer day around 80 degrees outside, it was close to 80 on that floor. Third floor even worse - Ive been in the studio there, which they attempt to cool with a single large AC, and I swear after working out alone (ie not with other bodies heating the room) for 5 minutes I was way way too hot. Same on the fourth. What do they do for elderly patrons who come in the middle of the day? Nothing, I can tell you, as my husband was a student until recently and frequently went at noon and had the same complaint. NYSC, tell this gym that they need to invest in ACs that serve their purpose and dont put the lives of elderly, pregnant, and other users at risk!!!!
Have always enjoyed my workouts at NYSC @80th; the management, staff, and all the trainers are superb; always friendly and outgoing. Especially one particular trainer, Shakim Jefferson who has been training me for over 2 years now. He is the best. Knows my limits and pushes them when I allow. He is a joy to work with. And the best part: We are always having some good laughs, as he kills me! :)
The only reason I gave two stars to this club is because of the location.Im so disappointed with this place. I tried to get a personal trainer and they set me up three times with three different male trainers, who started training months ago. I asked around and all the female trainers are established trainers for many years. I specifically asked for a trainer with experience, since i have a few injuries. It is upsetting since they had no clue what they were doing. I told one of them my knee hurts and the answer was Its ok! No pain ,no gain Luckly for me a friend recommended a trainer at a different company.
This club doesnt honor its promotions. Front desk person is mostly rude. Ive made a few attempts to try this club out, but was never able to easily use their free day trail. The manager was aggressivly pushing me to subscribe for membership before allowing to try the club (even though I had a promotion). Terrible, unvelcoming atmosphere!
I highly recommend the 80th street NYSC. Great equipment and classes, always clean and bright, and everyone who works there is friendly and helpful. Shakim Jefferson was my personal trainer for almost a year in preparation for my wedding. Not only did he help me achieve amazing results, but also the variation in routines and his positive motivation helped make getting up super early much less painful! If youre looking to reset and switch up your workouts, and increase strength and tone, Shakim is your man!
I live in UES and usually use nearby NYSC but go to 80th Broadway twice a week to take Suzannes zumba class. She is very creative and I always have a lot of sweat and fun. I also think this gym is much cleaner and neater than UES locations where I always see boxing bags (sometimes 4 of them!!) hanging from the ceiling in the group exercise studio. Never happened at 80th Broadway.
Its ok - the ground level has a lot elliptical machines but no windows. Next floor up has cardio and weight - pretty small stretch out area. Lots of treadmills but A/V equipment is spotty. On the smaller side of NYSC in my opinion. Would like to see them maintain the equipment and mats better - the one stretch out mat is literally ripped up and repaired with duct tape.
Ive been a member of this gym for 16+ years. The classes by Suzanne Dinunzio are the best, especially her Zumba/Urban Zumba. She brings an energy, joy & pizzaz to every class. The other classmates are fun, too! Suzanne is also the best cardio kickboxing teacher Ive ever had. Shell whoop your booty!
THE WORST MISTAKE YOU CAN MAKE IS JOINING THIS PLACE. I assure you, you will be miserable, the management IS SO POOR! They are rude and they will charge you for everything they want when they want, also it is IMPOSSIBLE to cancel so you are pretty much trapped in this place or they will make you pay a ridiculous fee for canceling and even after they will still charge. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND STAY AEAY FROM THIS PLACE.
Horrible billing practices. I just received a bill from a creditor for monies owed to NYSC even though I went & paid my bill months ago. Plus, NYSC never bothered to contact me to tell me they wanted more money from me.A mark of a struggling business is charging your customers accounts more money, not telling them, & then selling the payable to an aggressive crediting service. Based on my experience, I would never tell anyone to visit an NYSC establishment.
Tons of broken machines, even the working machines, have problemsyou have to fight with people over the few working machinesthey keep promising to fix things, and saying their mechanic is overworked. Here is a brilliant idea, hire a second mechanic to help him instead of overworking him, or buy new machines.
Been working for nysc for 6 years now first and foremost love my passion love the gym love the members and everything about the gym.Ill continue to inspire and improve health and fitness throughout the years to come god willing please feel free to contact me and set up your fitness evaluation to help you toward your goals, health, and fitness.#shockyourbodyright!💪🏿💥✌🏾Sincerely,Shakim jefferson

2022-06-15This is a great neighborhood gym. Membership fee is only $45.00 monthly and they have thousands of equipments inside including steam and sauna rooms. My favorite employee there is Maria Cardenas; she is helpful, polite, professional and goes above and beyond her duty to help the members. For this reason, I highly recommend that gym to anyone looking for a great place to work out.

2022-04-26Tony Herrera is an excellent personal trainer, his expertise of fitness combined with his caring personality motivates me to come back. He tailors my workouts, always keeping them fun and challenging, but most importantly he takes the time to address a previous shoulder injuryimproving its flexibility. I highly recommend Tony, he is a trainer who really cares and goes above and beyond to help you achieve your goals.

2022-05-03BEWARE - Dirty facility, broken equipment & VERY difficult to cancel. I lost my credit card on premise and several charges were made against it. Immediately notified management, but lackadaisical response - monthly charges continued even against new card that I never shared w/ this gym.BEWARE - I wish I could give a better review, but finances are very tight and this is an extraordinarily expensive and painful subscription.

2021-11-13Very nice facilities, well kept and sanitized. The trainers are very kind and attentive. There is one trainer William Lee who helped me even though I wasnt training under him to adjust and work on new machines. My only issue with this location are the stairs that you have to trek to get to one section to another when the elevator is full, but that is my only issue

2021-06-28I joined when I moved to the neighborhood so that I could work out when weather was not good for outdoor workouts. Air conditioning has not been working properly this summer (no air in the main cardio area where treadmills are located), it’s impossible to work out there on hot days. The GM was very apologetic and gave me some compensation, but overall the gym has been very disappointing!

2021-04-17Equipment is old and some of the machines are rusted. Some machines you can’t even use because it’s missing the stick that you place in the weights to begin the exercise. The staff is nice but I don’t come here for nice staff. I come to workout and it’s unfortunate that the equipment fails us. Honestly we pay nearly 4 times as much than Blink of PF and while they have their own set of issues, at least their equipment is from this century.
