New York Sports Clubs - Carmel in other cities:
This is a perfect Gym for those who are looking for a little bit of everything. Dont expect this to be a hard core heavy iron gym with tons of squat racks and platforms, or a crossfit center, or any other specialty gym you may be looking for. But, its not as weak sauced as a Planet fitness, you can drop some wrights and let out some grunts with no issues. There is a nice variety of machines and copious floor space to do whatever kind of exercise you want.Even before COVID they kept it clean, but now they are non stop disinfecting. They were getting lazy in the past with the broken locker doors, but that was hard to keep up on with the high school kids intentionally breaking them off. When the COVID garbage ends it will be nice to use the basketball court and sauna again.
Ive been a member for over 5 years here and in NYC. This gym is by far the best of all the locations Ive been too and they are all pretty good. The place is clean and friendly and the machines all work. Not too crowded either. Gave it 4 stars because I wish they had more classes.
I have been a member at this location for 2 years + and have seen this place nose dive in the past few months. The condition of the men’s locker room is disgusting. Over flowing urine from the urinal that has been broke for weeks. No soap or paper towels at times. Not cleaned and rarely vacuumed.Nothing get fixed in a timely manner, on the floor or the locker rooms.Very friendly front staff but things need to be maintained.
The club is ok it seems when something breaks its down for a long time the mens water fountain has been down for 3 months now and the other water fountain In the gym has been down for 5 weeks now there is never a fix it now thought when equipment breaks its down for a while also the biggest issue I have is the trainers think they are the best ever they walk around training people with an iced coffee in their hands or other drinks they do nothing to motivate people they are quiet and just watch talk small talk if you were at other gyms the trainers are all about helping you motivating you and helping you not worrying about what their drink is all the classes the trainers tell you what to do not work out with you espicelly the old man who always wears a jacket in the dead of summer when things get fixed and the trainers care about the people and not looking at them selves in the mirror it might get better other then that save your money and go somewhere else
UNPROFESSIONAL STAFF, RUDE CUSTOMER RELATIONS. UNCLEAN PREMISES. DUST ON EQUIPMENT AND ON FLOOR MATS. CLEAN UP STAFF PASSES WET MOP OVER ELECTRICAL OUTLETS WHILE YOURE ON MACHINES. PAID A LOT OF MONEY FOR TRAINING, TOTALLY UNSATISFIED. THIS ESTABLISHMENT DESERVES NO STARS FOR THE DISAPPOINTMENT OF ITS EXISTENCE.
Although I think this club has tons of potential, it has been completely ignored for the past few months. Nothing is put away or cleaned..EVER! There is NEVER a manager there past 5 during the week and almost never a manager there on the weekends and if they are its for four hours in the middle of the day.Billing issues never get taken care of because management doesnt respond to the employees requests or notes. If it wasnt for the pleasant front desk employees the whole place would be a mess. The womans locker room is the only thing that is even remotely clean. The studio and the floor are disgusting. The only way this location keeps members is because there isnt another place to go besides Golds which (for the time being) is in worse condition. This place needs new management!!
The club is ok. Fairly clean, a fair amount of equipment. I used to go to the Danbury club until that closed last month. That club had a LOT of equipment and it broke my heart when they closed. Now I have to drive 20 minutes to get to the Carmel gym and they close at 5pm on Saturday and Sunday. Why do they now close at 5 pm on the weekend when they used to close at 7 pm? Dont they realize some people have to work on Saturday/Sunday and might not be able to get there until after 5pm?
UPDATE: Back in February this year before the pandemic really hit, I decided to give them another chance and signed up for the Neighborhood package where I could utilize 2 gyms. Soon thereafter everything was shut down due to COVID. In May, I received an email from the CEO of TSI stating if you wished to cancel your membership please reach out via your sign in and request cancellation and your membership would be cancelled. I received confirmation that email was sent and received. Lo and behold in August I received a charge on my card $49.99. Found out they lied and they were charging members although ALL gyms were closed. Since then there have been lawsuits against TSI. I had to fight the charge with my credit card company and TSI continued to give false information. I provided the emails and confirmations. But somehow I lost the fight. All this to say, dont trust them, give your money to a local gym.I was originally a member her back in 2010. Stayed until 2014 and left because of the deteriorating conditions and the subtle increases to the membership. So I went over to another gym until about a few weeks ago. Paying $5 more than my former gym. The locker room is a mess. Many, many lockers broken and unable to be used. For the first week back one of the urinals was inoperative. I understand it had been out for sometime before I started. Walked in just yesterday to a pond of water surrounding the treadmills. Why wasnt it cleaned up before patrons came in? Did the employees not see it? Impossible. Very unsafe. The majority of equipment is OK. The atmosphere is different in the morning then it is at night. Sauna works with no issues. The amenities of towels and plastic bags, is a nice one. Spin instructors are all fantastic, helpful and professional. Other staff members have been courteous, kind and professional. Compared to other gyms NYSC is slightly better but not what it was when they first opened. Others have written about payment issues but I didnt experience it when I left the first time and so far so good. I will update this review in 6 months.
Cancelled two memberships in person and never received a confirmation email. Now I have to wait an excessive amount of time (45 days) for the cancellations to take effect and they charged me $10 per person for the pleasure of cancelling. You can tell much more about a business when you want to leave it than you do when you join. Now, cue the canned company response.

2022-06-04Customer service here is wonderful. The staff takes time to help you, going above and beyond what is required of them especially Lorraine. Can not say enough good things about the people who work here!

2021-10-31Clean facilities and pleasant workers. Hours of Operation a Big Disappointment. Weekend hours closing at 4pm Id ludacris. Most people who work all week long should have their gym open to 6pm on weekends. Especially in winter months.

2021-04-03Decent gym, and the people who work there are super nice, but there are machines that have literally been broke like 6 months and just sit there. They did add new treadmills, but can we get the cable cross over machine back, and fix the machines with yellow tape? Also not many 3, 5 and 10LB plates around. Just needs a few things to make it better

2021-12-15Will not accommadate you through ADA or civil rights act of 1964 for anything. Do not support this company that is anti freedom. Give your money to small gyms right down the road that comply with law.

2019-10-25The hot water in the shower sometimes has low pressure, but I’m still giving this gym in Carmel 5 stars because the staff are friendly, and my Trainer (Quincy) is really nice. He really pushes me to work harder and holds me accountable. He tells me when my form isn’t right and continues to give me feedback on what to work on and improve. That said, he also gives you kudos when you’re doing things right. I have lost 23 lbs since I came here 4 months ago and I feel stronger and healthier.

2020-09-12Not gonna lie, joined in March, already thinking about leaving... Closed basketball court... closes at 4pm on my only day off. What is the point of a gym if its only open during most peoples business hours... planet fitness it is again I guess...

2018-03-27Most complaints on here are clearly from people looking to socialize rather than improve themselves. Clean equipment that works and has a nice variety. nice basketball court, balls provided usually filled up, the sauna in the mens section is clean and multitudes of lockers to choose from for 35 a month you are getting what you pay for. Though classes are usually full due to popularity so early birds get the worm.

2019-03-12I called them a few months ago to cancel my membership. The woman I spoke with on the phone tried to talk me out of it but I told her to just cancel it that I was moving. After trying to talk me out of canceling it for a while she finally said that she would cancel it. A few months later I realized that they didnt cancel my membership and that they were still charging me. when I just called and spoke with a manager about this, she told me that it was my fault for not checking my bank statement. Be careful, they will steal your money and not take any responsibility for it.
