New York State Department of Labor in other cities:
Bizarre that this office got negative reviews. The entire staff could not have been more helpful. Everyone was attractively attired, the office was clean and it seemed to me the standards were high across the board. On the way home, my husband and I both commented that it was nice to see a government office so successfully organized.
Ive actually been to this place a few times and tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, even after reading the below reviews. As others have mentioned, they basically just collect your resume. I came to what I thought was going to be a one-on-one meeting with an employer only for them to collect my resume and application, telling me to come back the following day. I was already low on funds and felt like I wasted $4.50 coming up there. One worker who works for Seedco fed me bs saying my resume was good and to email it to him because he had jobs that Id be good for and the 2nd one said, hed be in contact with me by the end of the day through phone or email so I could meet with Agata & Valentina. I never heard back from either. Even after I called the 2nd guy and left a voicemail with my name and number, he still never called me back.Youre really better off looking for a job on your own.
Ive been to this location once long ago. Only once. First and last time. The fact that it was in Harlem should have been a dead giveaway (no offense to anyone living there already). I walked into the office, looked around, got nervous, and ran right out without giving it a chance. Judging by the reviews on this board, I made the right decision.
Going to this center was a waste of my time and train fare. I went to go for the mailroom clerk position and when it was my turn to go and speak to the account manager he acted like a real jerkoff. I mean, he was drilling me for answers like I was applying for the FBI or something. It was a mailroom clerk position. I have a B.S and work experience. He was being difficult, scrutinizing my resume with no avail and to top it all- he didnt even refer me to the other services that the center provided to help me get GAINFUL EMPLOYMENT. I just graduated-how much mailroom clerk experience am I to have? Not helpful, downright discouraging and an overall JOKE of the labor department. F them all.

2022-03-21This administration last year was more considerate and diligent about the public, but lately, I dont know what is going on in there. I have been calling for a few months now morning and afternoon, and no one answers the phone. I honestly need the assistance temporarily due to personal matters, and I dont think that I am getting the service I deserve and work so hard for. Please be mindful of this because we already go through enough. Answer the phone and help the public. There are people out here who truly need help. Thank you 🙏

2022-05-16The DOL is just like a Kafka novel... those who seek help go round and round and end up nowhere. All the DOL phone numbers Ive tried to call reply with high call volume, call back later. Ive sent my requests via U.S. Priority Mail to the DOL office in Albany and get no response. Access to my online DOL account has been blocked as they think the accounts security may have been compromised, so I cannot request information on line. I cant believe this is happening in the U.S. — we are completely helpless.

2022-02-02I can’t get an Agent on the phone to authenticate my account so I can’t login to file a claim. I’m doomed. I call at 8:30am - 4:30pm on repeat and the phone says “high call volume” and hangs up on me. I need HELP!

2022-01-25You will never get benefits even if you lost your job through no fault of your own. I dont understand how people are employed through the DOL because no one seems to work there.

2021-09-01I went there and these offices are closed! Doors shut, Japanese vibes sign on the door talking about phone numbers to call. Luckily I was able to update my my.ny.gov login information to be able to sign in because I totally forgot my password to login (and other stuff). The best way to work with the Department of Labor is through digital and telecommunication channels. Call them, though they have TONS of phone numbers that redirect you across the board which is annoying. Use the Secure Messaging Center with subject prompts and message boxes to write your concerns. They are terrible at replying, however its the most convenient way to begin interactions while they observe Pandemic and related guideline mandates by heads of state.

2020-03-26You can NOT file a claim by computer or phone. They have both been set up to give you the run around! Its deceptive. I have been trying to put my claim in for 4 days now. I posted a video of me also putting in a false social security number, and the pop up gave me the same message; to sign in with my other account already on file. I dont have an account on file for 123-45-6789. We are being hood-winked by our government again!

2020-07-16Why I would think they would actually be open on 7/16 is beyond me. I should have known that google was not updated and you can not actually go into this office as it is closed. This falls in line with my experience of waiting for six weeks now for my unemployment benefits after being furloughed and now struggling to pay rent, bills, etc.

2021-08-23Total run around. They tell you something different every time. It takes all week to talk to someone and then they feed you lies. Havent had money or my card since May 15th.

2019-07-29Zero stars. There is no way to get an agent on the phone. The recording continuously directs you to the webpage, the webpage tells you to speak with an agent. And meanwhile youre left trying to piece together what to do based on unreliable second hand information from the internet or friends.Tried their Twitter and although someone actually acknowledged the comment...it was just to say to call the number and speak with an agent. Homelessness here I come, since yall cant figure out a way to talk with me. Have fun paying for my shelter needs, SNAP, Medicaid, et al instead of helping me get the unemployment benefits I need to take care of myself.

2012-10-18I would give this place a HORRIBLE. I applied to one of their online job postings and was told to come in since they had more positions I would be a fit for. Basically a waste of time and travel getting to the place just to be seen for 5 minutes. The so called recruiter took my resume and said I would be great for a nursing position and would receive a call from the recruiter. 3 weeks later, NADA! Why tell me to come in and waste my time ; Simple , to raise quotas and look like they are doing something when they are actually helping no one find work. The only jobs they help fill is the unskilled and menial low paying jobs. Dont waste your time going here. Apply online and in person you get better results then these places.
