New York State Department of Motor Vehicles in other cities:
I came a little before my appointment and and came to renew, upgrade to enhanced, and change my address. I was in and out in 35min including ths wait time. There were people there but wasnt crazy busy between 9:30-10:30. Everyone I spoke to was nice and understanding and the guy was moving fast but didnt make me feel rushed. Best DMV experience I have ever had. Even security was nice! I left my earbuds on the seat when I was called up to the window, and he brought the to me and cracked a joke.
Poorly trained staff not able to process standard license applications. Supervisors cover low knowledge of the staff rather than trying to orderly process applications themselves. The whole office was not able to process the Real ID application with an SSN card containing a middle name. Advised to remove the middle name in the SSA office. SSA office assured us that the middle name on the SSN card is not a part of the legal name. Looks like neither DMV staff nor its supervisors are not properly trained to make inquiries into the SSA database. Total disrespect to customers and waist of time. Choice of another DMV office is a safe bet, at worst you will get the same result, I.e. no result and a negative experience of talking to the people who do not know their departments own rules.
The service here was good and fast. id choose it again. my problem is why does it take 2 weeks to get my ID. other states ive lived in like NJ u get it the same day at the DMV. now i have to go 2 weeks without and ID? it makes zero sense. its 2022. the technology is there, get it
Fast and friendly service. Scheduled my appointment last night for today. I arrived 10 minutes early. The counter person checked my reservation and let me in. The clerk gave me a ticket and I took a seat. 20 minutes later my number was called. 5 min after, I paid for my license renewal and was OUT!!!The experience was pretty outstanding.Always remember to bring the proper forms or else youll be turned away.
This was my second time visiting this DMV and both times I had a positive experience. Im Deaf so dealing with anything these day--due to Covid is frustrating. Both men/workers Ive had to deal with were very accommodating, patient and thorough. I didnt feel rushed, I didnt feel overwhelmed or frustrated. The DMV usually has the reputation for being a h***hole, but I think my opinion is finally changing.
10:45 AM appointment to upgrade a regular DL to RealID And Legal name change. Out the door at 11:13am!! Service was exceptional for a DMV and between two major holidays. Was it empty? no, there were people sitting waiting on their number to be called for various needs, completing paper work etc but none of that affects YOUR appointment time. Not every window handles the same issues so your experience may vary. It helps to review the website for your needs to see what you need to bring for your visit. So fast and efficient I cant believe its the DMV.
Small and cozy. Went for a quick evening renewal. Fast service. Cheap and affordable. Nice person sitting in the front and allows us to smile for picture. “There will be less tickets to write, if there is a smile in the license” -Wayne GretzkyWill return again. Probably for a breakfast appointment.
I was very happy with my experience here. My license expired and I am a new New York City resident so I was required to bring all my official documents and exchange my out of state license. Apart from dreading the regular DMV experience I was fretting over making sure I had all the right paperwork. After reading reviews for the Greenwich Street location, I decided it would be a good fit.Of course, upon my arrival, a sign read Make An Appointment online. On the mobile website, it said it would be another three weeks for this location! I would have to go to White Plains/Yonkers if I wanted an appointment earlier. Frustrated I went home. On my computer I was not able to reserve an appointment at all because the website did not accept any of my emails! Two weeks passed and I tried again -- this time calling to make an appointment. There were prompts directing you if the website did not work for you. Which was great. Then after 40 minutes on hold (NYC is busy - no big deal)a very nice customer service representative was able to reserve an appointment for the very next day! If only I had known.Once there, it was a breeze. In and out in 15 minutes. I guess, the business men on Wall Street expect efficiency and I appreciate it!So moral of story = Call to make an appointment and youll be all set!(Only thing I suggest is to make sure the reservations matches online vs in office. However, that is the DMV website not this location or the DMVs customer service.)
I was in & out in under an hour - unheard of for general DMV experience! The staff were generally pleasant, facility was following COVID protocols, and appointment started on time. Knocking off 1 star due to a hiccup around filling out the drivers license upgrade/renewal application, but staff were accommodating. I’d highly recommend an appointment at the Lower Manhattan DMV location to address your DMV needs
I am absolutely stunned here. I am Active Duty Military and was completely disrespected by the representative. I left New York because of a permanent change of station and now work in Georgia. New York suspended my license and registration without warning me, because I changed my Auto Policy to Georgia.Upon notification of my suspension (6 months after the suspension!!!) I faxed all documents asked for by one of their reps and gave them a week. I called back more than a week later and they rep REFUSED to help. When I asked if she could check on the status, she responded with Is this a statement or question, because Im going to move on to the next caller. I asked to speak her supervisor and she said they dont get on the phone. When I demanded to speak to a supervisor, she hung up on me.Understand I pleaded with her to check on my status. All I am trying to do remove the suspension, so I can register my cars in GA and get a license here because I will never return to NY. I tried to explain Im active duty and this is effecting me horribly. She did not care nor would she listen. She just gave me attitude and hung up.Does anyone know of a complaint department or way to report this person? This is the worse kind of person.
Very Professional and Friendly my favorite location at this DMV. Super convenient for me with traveling. Wait time no longer than 30 minutes. I upgraded my license to the enhanced was such a breeze. I love the appointment only now not crowded and everyone has on a masks.
A very pleasant experience. The online reservation was very easy if you book ahead. I was very lucky to secure a Saturday slot by booking around two weeks ahead. I was able to finish the visit within 20 mins (including filling in the form). The staffs were the best I’ve ever met. They were so kind and nice which made it my best DMV experience! Thank you for all the efforts and help during this hard time.
Today on Thursday the hours are from 10 am to 8 pm. Now this is where it’s messed up I chose to go today which made me late for work and I knew that but for nothing is an issue cause the times on google is 6:15am. That is messed up and a waste of my time we rely on google to have the information. And for this to not be updated is careless cause people like myself can’t afford to loose money so we schedule our day for use to now loose out in this day and time
I would like to give 5 stars, but I will give 1 for one reason: Very rude security with glasses. He acted like he was the director of this organization. I made a reservation for visiting online but he did not have my last name on the list. I showed the qr code with a reserve, but he did not let me in, only after the senior security came, he let me in. Inside the office, everyone was as polite and polite as possible (excluding the guard). I would like to note the efforts and high professionalism of the K.Chan employee who helped me to draw up all the necessary documents.
I went there to get my permit. Honestly, the process is pretty straightforward but no matter your appointment time you have to wait till youre called which might take a long time because theres a lot of people. Also make sure to bring a proof of residence along with your other documents.
Very very pleasant....I had a very early appointment.Check in was easy...took my test , passed....I was so happy because I waited so many years to finally be able to take my drivers test....I passed...1 of the staff member congratulated me...that felt good...she had no clue the trials and tribulations I over came to finally get to this stage in my life.Sorry for the long review......Im just still happy to be in this stage of lifeTo any other immigrant reading this, you can and will do it...be the best at what ever you put your mind to.Sending love and encouragement ❤
Easily the best DMV experience I have ever had. The staff was super helpful and extremely patient, despite me not having everything that I technically needed. We were able to work through the mess of papers and documents that I had to make changing my license work. Going to the DMV can be a very stressful experience, but that was not the case today. Thank you to this staff!
Went there couple times, last 2 times were disaster(went to register out of state registered vehicle). DMV personnel says to register a financed vehicle, bank must send their original copy along with letter of permission &power of attorney etc. to them first. Bank personnel says the request MUST come from DMV personnel first. and I am stuck in between the power game of the bank and DMV, and not being able to register my car. obviously neither want to do a job for customer and I will be the one whos going to be penalized for this. great f-king bureaucratic job you guys!
I made my appointment online for 8:15 to get my permit after taking the online test at home. They only allowed people who made prior reservations inside. As soon as I got inside, I waited in line for about 5 minutes to get my permit picture taken. Then got a number to sit down and wait to pay. I was at this location for a total of 40 minutes.
I wasnt allowed back in as they were calling for my number B465. My form was filled out I stepped outsude to get a tax form as that was required! Yes it was near closing, but they asked me for it anyways. Tellers were still not to my number B465, but I sow it being called while waiting to be let back in. I wasnt .
I didn’t think it was actually possible to have a good experience at a DMV and then I came here to transfer my out of state license. They’ve always had reservations but now it’s a requirement due to covid. You won’t be let in if you don’t have a res. I booked my reservation online about a month in advance and had my pick of the time/date I wanted, but it seems like there are plenty of open time slots at least a few weeks in advance. Show up max 15mins before your reservation time. There might be a short line outside because they only let X amount of people in at once, so it’s one in/one out. I only waited a couple minutes outside before my 11:30am Thursday appt, then a security guard checked me before letting me inside. No line inside at all so I got my photo taken immediately and waited maybe 2 minutes total before my number was called. Granted, it was a snowy day and it’s covid so things are probably slower/more crowded in “normal times” but compared to every other dmv I’ve been to in multiple states, this was the best experience I’ve ever had. The staff were very nice, organized, and quick. I was literally in and out in less than 15 minutes. Mind blowing!!! I spent 7 whole hours at a NJ dmv last year (they didn’t take appts) and it was a nightmare. This was a breeze! The only downside is they can’t print your new ID on site, they mail it to you and it takes up to 10 business days. I knew this going in, but I just find it a bit odd that a dmv right across the river in Jersey City has the technology to print IDs on site (while you’re standing at the counter) yet NYC does not.
The staff and security personnel were helpful, courteous, and PATIENT. I had to take my pic three (3) times! [Thanks to photophobia, Im an eye-closer when a flash goes off.]It was over occupancy at my appointment time, but the outside wait was brief, and once inside, the wait wasnt long really... maybe 20 - 25 min.?AND I actually received a smile or three. ;-)
Nasty, Stinky security telling me I can’t go inside to help my friend who just came to US and doesn’t speak English. That’s ok, he got all the paperwork inside(good people helped him)and we filled out everything with help of video call. He came to the counter he didn’t understand anything , he was on the speaker phone with me and lady told me to come in.I came to security told him that lady invited me to come inside but Security showed his attitude when I told him that. He Said that I’m not going in no matter what. And If I will ask again, he will kick out my friend from DMV.He abuse his power, and he is definitely not right. We pay TAXES and You working for us mr. security! I feel like I was discriminated!Poor security guard, shame on you!!!
Best DMV experience Ive ever had. The office was organized, clean and quiet. Everyone I worked with was professional, timely, and courteous. I made an appointment before arriving and was ushered in with no wait time. In and out in less than 40m for an out-of-state drivers license exchange. I was very pleased with this location and have already recommended it to many co-workers.
Update July 2021, on a FridayMade reservation online prior going to this location. Spent 1.5 hour in total.—-Review before the pandemic:My preferred DMV office because the one at 34th street is worse. Arrived at noon and took me almost 3 hours to get a real ID. The staff and security officers were very nice. You dont necessarily need to upgrade to Real ID. The regular one can still work now and in the future. The most noticeable impact will be that you need a Real ID to board a domestic airline. If you rarely travel domestically, and rarely need to go to federal building, you dont have to be in the office to get a real ID, or at least you can wait until maybe after 2020 to do the upgrade. If your regular ID is expiring you can just renew it online or mail without physically be in the office. In October 2020, Real ID will be needed ( or passport) to board the domestic airline, and that is why recently until October 2020 is the rush hour for Real ID application.I really love that the security officers kept saying thank you for your patience. It helps a lot keep everyone saint during this terribly long waiting time. Oh, well, at least we can sit. Those officers who help guiding the crowd were standing all the time.
Actually very nice place despite my previous very negative experience on DMV on Atlantic brooklyn . Good service even for white people relatively quick everything in the order so my friends that recommend me go here it was actually right don’t waste your time and Nerves in Brooklyn !come here!
I arrived on a Friday at 10:40am for out of state license transfer without an appointment. After showing my paperwork to the man at the front door, they immediately took my picture and gave me a number. I was called exactly 2 hours after I arrived. It took about 10 minutes at the counter and I was on my way. Everyone I encountered at this location was friendly and helpful. Overall, a positive experience aside from the fact that I had to wait 2 hours at the DMV on my day off.
After passing my permit test online, I had to come to do the eye test and show some paperwork. I was running late to my appointment because I had never been to the dmv before but they were extremely understanding and nice. There was literally no wait time, I got my ticket and before I could even sit my number got called. I was in and out in about 15 minutes.
A quick and easy process! I arrived at 8:32 am and the line was already at the door. But, the line for the license picture took less than 25 minutes and I waited to be seen at a counter for another 25 minutes after I got my ticket. While I was waiting for my ticket to be called, roaming staff members were offering to go over forms to make sure you had all the documents you needed. The gentleman who helped me was very kind and paper clipped all of the documents that passed the check together. I spent roughly 10 minutes at the counter and walked out with my temporary license at 9:32 am exactly.
Just got out from doing my enhanced ID, took all of about 25 minutes from when I entered the door. Here’s the tip people, make an appointment, bring all the proper documentation, and show up to the appointment on time. This DMV has their act together.Excellent staff, short wait, right off the train. What more could you want people.
What a great DMV experience. I arrived at 8:25 with no appointment to exchange out of state license, was out by 9:10. They’re very efficient there and very nice and helpful. There is someone to greet you in the front and point you to the right direction. As long as all your documents are in order, you should be in and out quickly. Never thought I could have a good DMV experience!!!
I arrived on a Monday at 11:15am (it looked busy with a fairly full waiting room) and was walking out the door at 12:15pm. I was transferring my out of state license and had my paperwork filled out prior to arrival. It was such a pleasant, easy, and pain-free DMV experience. I can’t compare this location to any other NYC location but I did a bit of research before choosing this one. I’m sure it all depends on the day, time and what you need done (maybe a bit of luck) but based on my experience, I recommend this location.
Ive never seen a DMV this stream lined in my life. This is post covid DMV my appointment was made a month in advance. It took my less than 10 minutes to get my ID. Paperwork and picture. They are well organized, professional and polite. I think the appointment system is how the DMV should operate, moving forward.
This office is one of the better well organized DMVs Ive been to. If you go in first thing in the morning, you will usually be out depending on your visit within 30 minutes or less. I renewed my drivers license and have returned license plates without having to wait more than a few minutes. Customer service depends on who you encounter. Clean and organized location.
Services was good staffs are great, friendly and quick. If you take all your required documents with you then you are done in less then half hour. BUT get ready to wait for a very veerrryyy long time. Last time when i went there i had to wait for 4 long hours. There are just to many people’s but obviously we all know when you visit DMV you have to face that long line theres no skiping from that. Also, take water and sone foods with you when you visit them.
Never in my life did I think I would review a DMV office, but here we are. Im genuinely impressed with this branch. The employees were knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. The triple threat of awesome. When I walked through the door, someone was there to greet me and get me heading in the right direction. The woman that took my photo was efficient and nice to everyone she helped. I waited at most 5 minutes until I went to the counter to be helped by another great employee. She wasnt able to transfer my out of state license because it had recently been reissued but instead of saying too bad so sad, she suggested I get a state ID which fulfilled my needs for travel. I cant say enough how efficient and pleasant this experience was.Due to the above, I would recommend that no other DMV offices adopt this models as comedians would be forced to find a new punchline.
I really cannot believe I am saying this but I actually had a few good laughs today at the DMV. I was greeted by a super friendly and helpful staff member who helped make sure I had my paperwork in order. Other people in line seemed to pick up on the fun vibes and were making jokes too. It was very smooth and I was in and out in about an hour.
I generally dont expect much when I go to a government office, but the nice thing about this DMV is that you can book a reservation online in advance which might reduce your wait time. Overall the staff is friendly and beyond the waiting period you should be able to get your work done in a relatively quick manner. Its noted that before you go make sure you have all the documents that you need. If you do need to step out and pick up another set of documents the staff might give you a priority queue coupon which will allow you to get faster service when you get back.
This was my very first visit to a NY DMV office. Right now, the one at Greeenwich St is the one open for business. You must have an appointment, no walk ins accepted. Appointments are done online. Any day you choose to go thats the day you get. Theres no long waits, everything went smoothly staff was friendly you get what you need done and you leave, just ensure you have all required documents. Best experience ever
Long wait time over 3 hours maybe if some of the clerks would actually stay at the counter and work it wouldnt take so long. I watched some of them after they finished with someone they goes off the counter for a long period of time, one of them literally only saw like two or three people the whole time Ive been sitting there while the others had people at the counter for 30 minutes or more. I was at the counter for less than 20 minutes and thats because they told the clerk that was assisting me that they needed his help with something so he left me to go help them.
I when to this place today because 2020 I came to this place it had some people ok but have most of the rude personal😶make you feel like you the worse human, they need to get a training of how to work w people before working with different person#1 not everyones who go there is uneducated unprofessional or a street person no matter how wire the person look😠they need stop being judgment they no doing it free we pay ours money and the city pay the salary. Humanity is the key!
I cannot say enough nice things about this DMV. The staff was super friendly, the place was organized, there was no wait time.I came around 1:30PM on a Tuesday and the place had maybe 20 customers waiting. From what I could see there were plenty of tellers and staff to help guide and expedite your process. I renewed my drivers license in FIVE MINUTES including the vision test and payment and .... I just love this place - I think Im still in shock from the quick painless process lol
A surprising and seamless DMV experience! Shoutout to the two gentlemen on the door, who couldn’t be more helpful! They kindly took our registration application inside to be verified on the spot. The lady who checked the paperwork was courteous and efficient. She came outside, told us we needed to resubmit the insurance info, which we did, and she processed the application then and there. We left an hour later with plates in hand!! The DMV at Atlantic Avenue completely messed up our application and wasted 3 weeks of our time! I would highly recommend the DMV office in FiDi, it is very well organized and the staff actually care to help. Hot tip: go early.
The old days and ways of the DMV are gone. The ticketing system is great. Staff at this particular location are superb. Very courteous. I’ve been here about 5 times the past year and never had any issues. Longest it took was about an hour from start to finish and that was during lunch time.
To avoid long wait times, DMV recommends going mid month, before lunch hour (Came in at 11am), and mid week. I did every single one of these and waited nearly 2.5 hours (screenshot attached) for a license renewal that took less than 10 minutes. To avoid this: highly recommend scheduling an appointment or just going to a different DMV. Appointment scheduler apparently breaks frequently too though so factor that in.Especially avoid going in after 11 as you will probably hit lunch break which means staff go from 100% throughput to probably 15%.Shout out to security guard who did his best to keep lines moving after the ticketing system broke down...but bigger question on why does everything break so much?
Got my new registration and plates in 22 minutes from checking in without an appointment. Incredible! I had filled out everything almost perfectly, needed another signature from my husband who was fortunately standing in car outside with our dog, so even with running out and back in before the next customer took my spot, I sailed through this downtown DMV. I also think the other reasons it was so smooth was because it was mid-week, mid-month (August no less), and a while before lunch (10:39 check-in), which is recommended time to visit. Google busy hours and reviews helped me figure this out actually. We were stressed about getting these plates since we had to make it up to NE MA to pick up the new car from the dealer there before closing time and get our daughter from camp—all on a schedule.
Hands down the best DMV I have ever been to. All of the staff are extremely helpful, efficient, and caring towards everyone that needs help. They seem to try their best to help people instead of just trying to dismiss you as fast as possible. If you arent too far, would definitely recommend coming to this location.
Due to the current situation with COVID-19, DMV is doing their best with keeping the crowds as minimal as possible by requiring an appointment to conduct any transaction at this location. If you arrive too early for your appointment, you will be asked to wait outside until 15 minutes before your appointment.Chances are, you will be given a form to fill out.SO MAKE SURE YOU BRING YOUR OWN PEN.Also, there isnt anything to lean on outside to complete the form.I suggest you bring a clipboard if you need to.Once inside, the place is pretty empty.About a dozen or so others handling their DMV business.Seemed like there was a full staff since it appeared that every desk behind the counters were occupied.Overall, I was out the door in less than 30 minutes.Worth repeating: BRING YOUR OWN PEN!!!
This was the best DMV experience of my life! Went to renew my license and was IN AND OUT IN 8 MINUTES!! Yes 8!! Including two window visits, a photo, a vision test, and not having filled out a form I was suppose to have filled out. Not sure how that was even possible!!! A+. There were plenty of other people, though it wasn’t too crowded. I had made an appt for 2pm, arrived at 1:50pm, checked in on their computer and my number was called before I even sat down. Everything went quickly and smoothly. Just make sure you have all the valid documents ready!
This place is the fastest dmv i have ever been to and i have been to 7 different dmv in different state. They have a great system for handling traffic. There was a printer issue and supervisors jumped in right away and solved the issue. All stuff here actually feel like a team.
This place was packed with 50 people. I had to spend one hour there. I spent 5 mins to finish the written test, then waited for 15 mins in line to get to the final step: then it took 30 mins for the clerk with amateur knowledge to Check documents and pay for a permit . She kept murmuring she couldn’t wait for holiday. She asked another clerk a skinny guy for information about my registration He gave wrong information I told them I will only trust information on DMV officials website!!!! Be careful those people misled you with their amateur attitude while getting paid for a job demanding detais check and good training!!!
Although due to the pandemic, you have to schedule for your appointment way in advance...once you go with your appointment, it takes no time for you to get your issue taken care. But this is not your normal year and definitely not your normal DMV visit. Waiting over a month to upgrade a license is not ideal but in and out in about 15 minutes is pretty nice.
I got my renewal done pretty quickly, which is the best part of this DMV location. But some of the staff are very rude. Just because a customer does not know something and may answer the way you may not like, it doesnt give you an excuse for you to give them a blatant attitude. Also, negatively speaking behind the customers back after the customer leaves, is also another negative point in their customer service. I shouldnt be able to hear that from not one -- but TWO workers. I was happy to be there at first but left pretty disappointed.
This place is just incredible! I entered and right there there was person greeting me; she gave me a form and a pen, and told me how i could save a few minutes during my visit, by taking a picture, and getting a service number. As I was going to seat down, there were two people helping me to fill out the form, checking the required documents, and writing down on my form approved. I finally was called and at the counter the person checked my documents again, put in all my info in the system, I paid, I signed, done in 52 minutes. I am still in shock, who did train these public employees? why are we not replicating this model? why are we wasting hours/money/work in other offices?
Went there to renew my drivers license. Waited 3 minutes to get the renewal application and number (the application that they sent through the mail is not applicable). Then waited an hour for the person to check my documents, take a picture, and do the vision test. They then asked me to sit and wait for them to call my number again. Two hours later after my butt went numb from sitting on the wooden benches, they called my number. There they rechecked the documents and took my payments. The process seems very inefficient. However, they get an extra star because the staff was very pleasant.
Went in at 9 am on a Monday to renew my license, total process including eye exam took 10 minutes, AND everyone was friendly and helpful. They have greeters to triage your needs when you arrive and answer questions and a simple renewal (no new photo) is done on a kiosk. A+ experience
Best experience even. Get there around 8:10am and wait for 15 min and they let me in. The staff was nice and guide me what I need to fill out. Total time I spent for this DMV was about 25-30min including the waiting time which is wonderful for me. Thank you and recommend to the other.
Best DMV experience ever! I went on a weekday lunch time 12:30. Even though their ticketing system was down, the place ran smoothly. The security guard Sae (spelling?) was friendly, calm, approachable, respectful, informative and helpful. The DMV specialist was also very helpful and willing to answer all my questions. And believe me, I had a lot!
Just like other reviews said, the staff is very helpful and welcoming. The lady at the door helped orient me to what I needed to do and gave me the form and pen I needed. The lady who took my photograph directed me to my next step and what to say once my number was called. I arrived at 3pm and was out of the door in only 33 minutes with my drivers license replaced and upgraded to Enhanced.
All municipal offices should work like this.i went to have my license renewed and upgraded to the new Enhanced license and I arrived at the office at 9:49am and i was finished at 10:30am. I was politely greeted by one of the attendants at the door who ensured that I had all the correct documents then she quickly gave me a numbered ticket. I think we all know what a nightmare the NY DMV could be but this was a dream!
As with all dmv’s, there are staff whose passive aggressive words grip your throat like Kylo Ren does General Hux with the force, but those people are few in this DMV. what really stands out is the speed of this place! I came on a Monday at 9:15 am with an appointment. There was no where to scan in. I was told to wait on a line and was never asked about an appointment, but I was still in and out in an hour. I don’t know if it was the day/time but, from my experience, these is no need for an appointment because they ignore it anyway (I came in for a learners permit after having taken the test at my school so you might need one if you are taking the test there). I came again on a Friday a bit later, around 9:50 am. The line was long: about 20 people past the entrance. I was in and out in 58 minutes. Amazing dmv. Make sure you have all the proof points you need.
Absolutely the best dmv in NYC. Third time going here and its always been a pleasant experience. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Lines move very fast. I didnt even bother going to the Jamaica and college point office since those are always a disaster. Worth the train ride to the city.
Best DMV experience, besides the crazy wait. Made an appointment for 2pm, upon arrival Im told the system is down. They say I should return tomorrow, but this is my only day off.So I stay. The first lady that checks out your paperwork was cheerful, very helpful, and was just pleasant to talk to. The next lady that tool the pictures was also very nice, had a constant smile, even let me retake my picture because I thought I was blinking. The lady next to get complimented my pictures improvement the second time around.Waited in a long line, but had seats, although the numbers were down.Once I get to the counter, the two ladies were very quick, thorough, and helpful.I had a great experience minus the wait, but thats to be expected at the DMV regardless.
So after my attempt with no appointment, I went there for my appointment. The man at the door would not let me scan my appointment in, but made me wait for the woman who was busy with another customer. Why is he standing there? Why am I paying over $80 to renew a non-CDL to pay someone to stand there and do nothing? When she was finally free, I told her I was there to take a new picture. She gave me an application. I told her I was just there to take a picture as per their instructions. She again handed me the application. I told her my license was already renewed and I just needed a new picture, but she still pushed the application on me. I pulled out my “Photo Retake” form and showed her where it says “We’ll do everything possible to make your visit brief” and pointed out that if they wanted me to fill out an application they would have included one. This seemed to convince her, so she sent me back to the man to scan my appointment, just as I had tried to do when I first walked in. Why have kiosks if you wont let customers use them? I guess it comes back to all the fees they collect, they dont seem to care if they waste our money or not. The layout at his location has 3 windows where they take photos. I waited over 10 min. from my scheduled appointment time while they called 3 people without appointments (note that when I was there 2 days earlier without an appointment, I waited for 14 minutes while they called only appointments to those minutes before I gave up & scheduled my appointment.) When they called me, the man at the counter at least admitted the alleged problem with their photo-finishing was Albany-speak for they want a new photo. He was very professional and clear. His attitude is the only reason they got more than 1 star rating for this visit. I then had to go to another counter to have my interim license printed, for which I was called almost immediately. Total time JUST TO TAKE A PICTURE for a license already renewed by mail - 25 min. After 2 visits, I must conclude that all these reviews about people in & out in minutes must be fake reviews by employees, I fail to see how this inefficient and incompetent cast of characters can achieve those claims.
Dont believe the hype. I showed up Tue morning at 8:15. At least 40 people already in line. When we got inside an employee handed me the wrong ticket. After I got in the correct line and had my picture taken, there were 45 license replacements ahead of me. In the last hour they have worked through 12. Prepare to be here all day if you dont win the reservation lottery.
Thought being in the center of the financial district would make service more efficient. Waited close to 2 hours to see other numbers called ahead of mine. Service was slow when I arrived late in the afternoon with many people waiting to be served. When they were about to close, staff rushed out to help customers otherwise it would have been past their shift. Helpful once they knew what you needed which took less than 10 minutes when served.
Nearly impossible to get a reservation online, so went without. Got served in about 90 minutes despite it being very busy. The photo person was very grouchy when I asked to redo my signature. The person who processed my renewal & upgrade was super nice and efficient. All in all, not bad.
This place made a complete 360I made a appointment to register vehicle and as soon as we came in we where greeted and promptly attended to.It is unusual to have such a good experience at the DMV last time I was there everyone was grumpy this past visit was so different.Keep up the excellent work! Efficient and happy employees.
I’m glad others have had a good experience with staff- I must’ve just been unlucky! Smooth process and I didn’t wait too long (late morning on a Thursday). I just find it unecessary to have orders barked at me as though I’m deliberately trying to make life difficult for staff - and I was organized and had everything they needed ready! A customer next to me was also being treated poorly by staff (staff ended up being wrong) and was in tears. It was all a bit depressing.
Best DMV experience Ive ever had. I got there at 7:45am on a Friday and I was third in line to get in. By the time they opened the doors (~8:25), there were 40-50 people lined up outside. The gentleman who unlocked the office made a joke about how they were going to have to close due to an emergency, but then let us in with a laugh. Upon entering, I was called to a counter immediately, where a very pleasant lady verified that I had the proper documentation with me. After that, I was immediately sent to another counter where another friendly woman processed my request (transferring my expired CT license to an Enhanced NY license). I paid $95 for the Enhanced ID, and was pleased to find that they accept the four major credit cards. I thought I was going to have to write a check. I was out the door walking to the subway by 8:50am. Bottom line: if you show up 30-45 minutes before opening time (8:30 at the time of writing) and bring a completed form with all the proper documentation, you can definitely do this before you have to be at work.
Cant believe im writing this but the most quick and painless DMV ive been too. In and out in an hour and thirty mins for a REAL ID. All the employees are such nice people, except for one overly entitled woman that sits at the front desk. Besides her - everyone is wonderful! Most friendly and efficient DMV staff ive ever met. Highly recommend this place to anyone. Just make sure you have all the right documents - there is even a person just dedicated to document checking.
Nice compared to other DMVs around NYC. The place is easy to miss from the outside, there’s not much to make it stand out, look for the DMV logo on the glass doors. It’s clean inside, seems organized, lots of wooden benches. The people there are nice and professional. Food and drinks are not allowed, no phone calling but you can use your smart phone while you wait. I came super prepared with all my forms filled out and all required documents ready (thanks to the DMV website) but it still took over a hour and a half. Be prepared for a lot of waiting around.
Worst DMV experience of my life. Got there at 11am with my car registration paperwork already filled out. Checked in at reception desk, who reviewed my paperwork and instructed me to fill out a few more lines and then told me to proceed to the waiting area and gave me my ticket with my assigned number to wait in line (this took 15 minutes - not so bad). Im thinking if they do this for everyone, things should move along nicely. I quickly notice only 6 people in front of me for the same type of service. 2 hours later, Im still waiting!!! She has only gotten to the 4th person, and also disappeared completely for about 20 minutes (break?). I spoke with a manager type who shrugged her shoulders and said its a busy part of the date and we are understaffed. Not a great help at all. I left. At that rate, I wouldve been there another hour and a half. Very disappointing.
One time I came in to get a new license, I was so impressed how well this manager was able to deal with a woman who was under a great deal of duress. She raised her voice and kept on going on about how she should be at work, but she is here. The manager stepped in and handled it with such professionalism and courtesy that she felt much better. The situation was taken care of very well. For my own personal service, I am amazed how little I have to wait. The former HR manager at work told me about this DMV office, and I am grateful she did. I dont dread going to the DMV, as others do.
I’ve never had a better experience at a NYC DMV than the one I had today in this DMV. The employees - from the greeters to behind the counter workers - are so good humored. This made me feel so welcomed, respected, and appreciated as a civilian. From now on, this is my DMV! I urge anyone who reads this review to do the same. My experience was so pleasant I’m going this far as to praise them. Keep it up guys! You are setting a new bar in NYC DMVs’ customer service.
Went yesterday 6/25/18 this place is totally awesome. Very organized and clean. Two pleasant and informative people at the door helping and directing you where to go and handing you the correct forms to fill out. I spent 1.5 hrs there and successfully completed TWO transactions. A family members non-drivers license and to change mine to the REAL license. The staff was very nice especially the two African American girls that called our number and took our pics. Brooklyn (my neighborhood DMV’s) are the worse. Bad service and bad attitudes. I reached Greenwhich at 9:28 am and walked out @11:03. I never write a review for anything but this place left a great impression on me. Wonderful experience for the first time ever at a DMV
Yes. That is 4 stars for a DMV. In the world of DMV’s this rating is in parallel to a destination vacation spot. They had beats pumping through the speakers. All the staff were pleasant. How long did I wait and give a rating for this you ask...?3+ hours. You might find them on Travelocity...
Seriously, when did the DMV become pleasant? I walked in about 10 am to renew my license.I was immediately surprised because every DMV I have ever been to has been crowded and noisy. This place was practically deserted and very quiet. I waited a few minutes on a line before someone came and helped me. Went to a counter, gave them my ID and did the vision test. Then they took me to the kiosk where I entered my information. And then I swiped my credit card. Thats it. I was out by 10:15.Ill use this DMV as long as I live.
I came here because I was told it would be quick. But to renew an id it took me 3 hours. Apparently theres a wait for a picture to be taken and then you have to wait for your number to be recalled just to pay, just for that I waited an hour and a half on top of the fact that they were calling numbers ahead of mine when I was clearly there before them. Then their computers went down & the staff gives you the worst attitude ever. I have patience but when its been Three hours!!! Your patience can run a little low. I was better off going to a DMV in Brooklyn
Worst DMV Ive been to. Made an appointment to upgrade my license to Real ID.They wanted several forms of proof of address, and the least inconvenient option was a bank statement. Everything is digitized now (except maybe the DMV), so I paid Chase Bank to mail me a paper statement. When I arrived, their systems were down, so my reservation was worthless. After a long wait, the clerk looked at my documents. She decided she didnt like the bank statement. I told her the statement was exactly what Chase sent me. She said it didnt have a bar code. The statement did have a bar code, so I pointed to it. She said it didnt have a blue logo. I even went to a Chase branch a few blocks away, and they confirmed that this was one of their statements, and no, they dont have blue logos on them.I had to get a signed statement from my landlord and visit the DMV again (and their reservation system was down again).Waste of several hours.
Skip the horribly rude folks at the Brooklyn DMV and head here!!! Friendly and helpful staff from my experience. I got there at 8am on a Friday, 30 minutes before they opened, and was the 3rd person in line. I was out of there by 8:45 after only 15 minutes. BOOM. Theres a guy that hawks pens and license plate bolts outside should you be desperate.
I couldnt believe it. I walked in, renewed my license, and walked out in 3 minutes. Granted, I didnt have any forms to fill out and only needed a vision test, but Ive never seen a DMV that was this fast. The renewal machine worked perfectly and I was blown away. While I cant say I truly enjoy going to the DMV, this experience was stereotype-changing.
To be honest I am really questioning the 5 and 4 stars at this DMV. Went there today to do the drivers permit written test. The lady that gives you the number at the front( middle aged woman either Hispanic or White, middle age, extremely short hair with a pot belly was rude). She gave me a number to sit and wait to do the written test. I waited from 11am to 2:30, the place was so crowded that people were standing in the aisles. However my point is this I was not supposed to be given a number but rather be sent to the area where the written test is administered. If you have 3 1/2 to 4 hours to wait on service then goodluck because that is what happened to me. The five and fours stars for this location is not accurate, whoever they pay to write those reviews, is incorrect. If I could give them zero stars I would.
I spent 3.5 hours to wait for my renewal to an enhanced license which in my opinion is unacceptable in this age of technology! The workers there are very accomadating but those incompetent New York State politicians and their lackeys at DMV would never succeed in the private sector! No leadership in Albany!
Can’t get over how inefficient systems at the DMV are. Went here today to register my car and apparently of the more than 20 windows available there was only one person handling registrations. This person eventually went to lunch and no person with a registration issue was helped for over an hour. How does this even begin to make sense? This place is every single DMV stereotype out there.
Honestly, the best DMV experience I have ever had. Im ex-military and have lived in probably 10 different states and been to dozens of DMVs over the past 20 years. This was the most friendly, fast, positive experience I have had. I made an appointment online but unfortunately their system was down so they couldnt find it. They were so professional about helping us because of the system outage. We were literally there for less then 15 minutes. If anyone from NYS actually reads these reviews, please know that your staff at the lower Manhattan DMV is awesome!
Renewed my license by mail but they made me come in for a picture. Why do they think I renewed by mail? HINT - To avoid coming in. So my “Photo Retake” form says “We’ll do everything possible to make your visit brief.” Their idea of brief is to make we wait with everyone applying for a license or permit. I am now at 25 minutes, 1 window processing B transactions, and 7 people ahead of me. After 35 minutes, with no B call for 14 minutes, I check window 28 and theres nobody there. I asked about it and was told they went to lunch, but windows 27 & 29 were also doing B. The board showed them doing W which they said were appointments. If appointments are the priority, the “Photo Retake” should say Make an appointment, not “We’ll do everything possible to make your visit brief.” I made an appointment, hopefully that will go better. Theyre the ones that lost their photo database, they really should try to expedite your visit. Or tell you in your renewal notice that they lost your photo & need to visit. Backup? I cant believe they never thought to do one, just lose the picture and inconvenience us.
Now that Ny allows illegal immigrants to get licenses the lines are increasingly congested on top of already lengthy wait times. I went first thing in the morning right when they opened on a weekday and there was already a 2.5 hour wait which I waited the entire time and it still took longer than that! Easily spent 3/4 of my day here didn’t get helped until 3pm. Absolutely absurd. And all the illegals are clogging up the wait times and not making the process any better. I’m not opposed to immigrants but do it legally!
I was in and out. I felt like I was Barry Allen moving at the speed of light and sound. The DMV opened at 7:00 am. I was probably the 12th person on the line, and I had my forms filled out already. I just came to update the photo of my license. That was all. I believe this is the best DMV in Manhattan because they open at 7 00 in the morning and not a lot of people are a morning person. If you are a morning person, take advantage of it.
I cant believe Im rating a DMV 5 stars... but wow. Needed to transfer my license, got in at 11:15am and was back on the subway 11:31am. Make sure to make a reservation and have all your docs in order. My family in Virginia and friends couldnt believe this. When I told them 15 minutes they thought I was bluffing.
I had a brief yet horrifying experience there. Went there because my original visa expired since I got my learners permit, and wanted to update my resident status. The instructor at the 5-hour course said its done on the spot, the website says the same, my husband actually had his license replaced on the spot for the same reason. The guy guarding the ticket machine didnt even let me press replace license or permit button, asked what I want, said that replacement takes two months, and I should call DMV customer service to confirm I can use my current card for the upcoming road test. The wait time on hold was expected to be 15 min or more, hence I argued with the information online, upon which he kicked me out in an awfully rude manner.
Just left the DMV on 11 Greenwich. I was in and out in 10 minutes (filled out the form, took the eye test, paid and got my temporary license). YaaY! The staff were courteous, kind and friendly. I highly recommend going here for your license. DO NOT GO TO 125 ST IN HARLEM!
I’m very disappointed about the service and unhelpful agent/representative. The agent was rude, racist, and egoistic. She didn’t have any work ethic or professionalism to help or give any advice as an expert. I came to help my mom make State ID due to my mother’s language barrier. Explained to the agent in the beginning, that my mom is a stay home mother/housewife due to her health condition. ALL OUR utility bills/mortgage are under my dad’s name.I gave the agent these following legal and original documents.1- USA passport2- social security card3- birth certification4- Utility bills/mortgage bills which has my father’s name and proof their relationship ( parent’s legal marriage certification)5- Parent’s shared Bank statement/cardBased on my family and my previous experiences and processes on obtaining NYS and NJS ID, I thought these documents were adequate proof since rest of my family members have an NYS ID. Unfortunately and rudely, the agent denied this proof and said my mother can’t make the ID. The agent did not give us any solutions on how to resolve it. When I tried to ask for any advice or input on other documents we can bring for a future appointment, the agent rolled her eyes, dissed us, and ignored my questions. As we were leaving the DMV, I approached another agent and wanted to hear his input on other documents we could bring for future ID appointments. I explained to him the situation about what happened with the first agent and if there are any ways or proof my mother should get. Rudely, the second agent didnt give any advice and couldn’t help us. I’m extremely disappointed by the poor service and lack of knowledge these agents provided for my mother and me. any solution??
Never in a million years would I have thought Id be writing a review for a DMV. Every other DMV is the inner core of hell compared to this lovely place. In and out in under 30 min (15min to be exact). Friendly faces who (gasp) seem to enjoy their job?! Ive died and gone to DMV heaven.
Everyone was very friendly, from the security guard to the dmv employee. An employee at the Atlantic-Brooklyn branch suggested I go to the Greenwich location. So glad I listened to her advice! Wait time was around 20-25 min and the employee that assisted me was such a sweetheart. She had me laughing about the mundane and answered all of my dmv related questions. This will be my go to dmv spot from now on! :)
I went there today to renew. I had to physically be there to upgrade to the new type of license and I wanted to update my photo which was already something like 14 years or so old. I waited a bit over an hour to be called to take the photo and turn in my documents and pass the simple vision test. The woman was pleasant. Then I was given my papers in a plastic envelope and told to sit down again and wait AGAIN for my number to be called. I asked why and was told that I had to go on line to pay. How ridiculous. Why couldnt I pay when I was done with the serious stuff? I waited yet a bit more than A SECOND HOUR. The second attendant was also pleasant and agreed that this system is a bit ridiculous and the extended time spent there is partially due to these new enhanced licenses being handled.
Id say applying for an enhanced drivers license at this location is a breeze.8-30-19, 8:17am - arrived at DMV and had second thoughts of leaving when I saw a very long line, but im glad i stayed; 8:25 - the line started to move; 8:41 - had my photo taken at the 1st window and told to wait; 9:05 - my number was called; submitted all requirements; paid $110; 9:18 - got my temporary license. The line for the 1st window was gone by 8:40am.
Morale is low. I have been here for two hours and counting as I wait amongst the other cattle for my number to be called for the third time... because why process my paperwork, take my photo, and accept my payment all at one time when instead you can pay three people minimum wage to do these tasks separately? Bring snacks (or probably a full meal) and at least a gallon of water if you need to renew your license here. You will be here that long.
Truly, I was amazed. This branch, at least, is not the nightmarish purgatory that is the DMV of old. Friendly and efficient staff. If all government offices and (dare to dream) my local post office were run like this, Id stop rooting for the robots to take over their jobs. Made my day.
Best DMV to come to. I’ve been coming here for years. Their customer service is great. They actually ask you what your there for and check if you have or are missing and documents just so that you don’t waist anyone’s time and they do this in the most polite way. Please people there’s a website check before you go to any DMV. Best DMV to come to.
I transferred the cars title, got it registered and got the plates in about 15 minutes! I printed and filled out all the paperwork in advance and that saved me a ton of time! The staff was nice and courteous and efficient! Make sure you go to this location, they have their stuff together!
Never thought id give a 5 start to a DMV office but here I am... People are trying their best here to help you. Despite having very limited space and resources, they make the best of it. I was greeted at 3pm, was politely told of ways i could minimize my waiting time and then was finished by 3:25pm. Best DMV i have been to in NY by a long shot
Worst experience in a DMV. Im a foreigner working under H1B, when checking my passport they asked me to wait while they verify my immigration status but forgot to come back to me. After an hour they realize that and did not excuse, nobody was of any help and all eveything without a smile. After 2h30 they finally told be that they were not able to verify my status so id have to come back an other day. Just wanted to replace my driving license...
The worst dmv of all time. Only 1 window for registration and after that station was having problems for 30mins not 1 single registration customer was called. I came all the way from queens to Manhattan because I was told its much faster. But boy was I wrong and do not reccomend to anyone.. stay away trust me terrible service
THIS IS THE DMV TO GO TO!!!! Employees here really care about your needs, they are knowledgeable and willing to help. Ive come here for my licence and my cousins NY state ID and the personnel is beyond friendly. From the employees that greet you at the door, agents and managers, everyone is amazing! Thank you!!
Very friendly and attentive staff. Went early on Friday morning before doors opened (was 3rd in line) to apply for enhanced drivers license and was out the door in about 40 minutes. For some reason, the MV44EDL form is not listed on the NYS DMV website as of the date of this post, so you can either save time by printing it off a 3rd party website and filling it out prior to going to the DMV, or go to the DMV office to fill the form out there.
I arrived at 8:15am (15 minutes before opening). 15 people in line in front of me. If you have the forms filled out you get a ticket immediately to get in line. Waited 30 seconds for an open window. Took 15 minutes to transfer my Texas license to NY.This is a full DMV office!
Either Google is incorrect or the DMV is incorrect, but it says that the office is open today. When I called the phone number to check it said that it was open today. Then when I leave my job to go there the office is closed. He said some offices are open and summer clothes I was me very end show this is one of the offices being closed perhaps someone needs to update the damn sight. I am completely frustrated especially since this is the city building.
Went here couple years ago for my permit, i was in and out in 30 minutes which includes my exam. Then i went back another time to change my address in and out in 5. There is pratically no lines and fast service i recommend here to all my friends and family here and they all love it. One of the best fast dmv service ever. I will continue to go here

2022-06-21Everything went smoothly today with car registration , same as a few years ago with learners permit. Not crowded, clean. Staff was polite. The lady in the window #14 is super cool. Got car registered in 20 min. Of course, I had all documents ready both times. The DMV location “to go” so to say. Recommend.

2022-05-31Made an appointment online to get my enhanced license. I got to the door just about on time. There was one person there checking people in. Its not a very large office, and there were only two or three people sitting in the waiting area. I was told to get online to get my photo taken. There was only one person in front of me online. After filling out the application and photo taken, I was immediately called to the window. The Agent was very pleasant. She checked over my documents, everything was done within 10 minutes.

2022-04-01Easy process. Very nice people. Took me 40 minutes. Sometimes DMV has taken hours in the past. You MUST have several proofs of ID and address verification and you must print everything out in advance so they can make a copy. Also all ID must be original. If you have everything, it will be a smooth process.

2022-02-17From the door to the front desk, all the way to the last stop, this place is smoothly managed with a great playlist to boot!Their voice over system was broken so there was this gentleman calling out numbers and politely leading people to their respective counters. The employees who received people and take their photos were so lovely and polite. Numbers were properly displayed and called out. Place was clean and well-maintained.This is my second time here and the first one was before the pandemic. They have managed to maintain the quality, probably even better. There are real people here who uphold respect in here so you’d be an a**hole if you don’t behave accordingly.Even though this transaction took longer than last time (45 mins), I didn’t feel stressed and trusted the system (very rare).Kudos to this place and I hope you become a blueprint for all government services.

2022-02-17Wow! In and out in 20 minutes. I had lost my drivers license and needed to update my address. I was able to do it all of this in less than 20 minutes. Customer service felt like a 5 star restaurant. Will definitely come back to this DMV in the future.

2022-06-02JUNE 2022: I got there early to find out you need an ONLINE RESERVATION!Do so on their web page, but the web site doesnt work on the iPhone (!) Never got me the QR code or a confirm button. So I had to go back to the office to use a desktop. Even there the web page was buggy.Otherwise no issues once there.

2022-02-11Coming from California, I can only say this DMV blew all expectations away: in and out in less than 45 min.I made an appointment the night before, showed up early, people outside by the door I assumed were waiting to get in were actually staff that were friendly and helpful - the same impression I got from everyone inside. I didnt have the required application form, and instead searching for it someone asked me what I needed at the door and handed me the correct paper (and even a pen!). I had been dreading this trip, but honestly I didnt feel stressed one second throughout the process. Weird to say, but thanks NYC DMV

2021-03-21The staff at the DMV are very courteous, knowledgeable, helpful and have a great personality. The system is get a ticket and wait for your number to be announced on the digital board. This place is very clean and runs with efficiency. You are in and out in a few minutes. Make sure to have all your documents ready when youre called to the window.

2022-01-11This location should set the standard for all DMV offices. Efficiency, friendliness, and reasonable pace are just a few words that come to mind when describing it. I cant speak for all days of the week, but on my appointment day/ time there were few people, not the masses one might be accustomed to with government agencies. Five stars all around.

2022-05-18This dmv is the worse, the staffs are a disgrace, each member of staff need to be trained on how to deal with members of the public. customers sevice is out of this world disrespectful, you would think after covid people would have a different outlook on life especially when dealing with each other.I would never go back there.
