This place is terrible. The wait time was insane. The people were not helpful at all. Why does it smell like soup? No one was eating anything. This place is exactly what you use as a punchline for the DMV. If you have another option use it because this is not where you want to be.
This location has a large parking lot (and a strip mall is located at an upper level) This location is currently reservations only, so the wait is minimal. Strange to see a DMV office with a small amount of customers. Staff seemed nice and efficient. Take advantage of this location while you can.
Horrible place mainly due to the customer service people who are extremely rude! its not my fault you are working at a job you dont like. Maybe you should have made better choices in your life. Very ghetto staff that treats costumers who are not knowledgeable as idiots when they should humble themselves and do their jobs respectfully and not condescend people as if you are better when you are working a job that you are not making making much at. Those people are delusional. I would not recommend this place to anybody but unfortunately they know you have no choice but to deal with them. I would recommend putting in complaints against certain employees but who has the time for that. Overall bad experience. I cant wait until computers replace these people like they are doing with EZ pass. No one likes to deal with rude people. DMV and Postal Office should be replaced with self service similar to EZ pass to avoid drama.
HORRIBLE! Yesterday there computers were down. Today I told I need a Reservation yet it was only about a hand full of people and fully staffed 🤔. When I tried to two suggested ways, that day was cross off and no availability until the end of the month. And when I called the wait was long and the phone rep wasnt any help.
Even with online reservations, its amazingly slow service. I arrived at 1:30 for a 1:45 appointment (they said show up no earlier than 15 minutes before your appointment). Stood outside in a quazi-social-distant line until 2:00, then another line inside until 2:15, when I got a ticket and was asked to go sit and wait. My number was called at around 2:55, and getting my paperwork done for registering a new (used) vehicle took an additional 30 minutes. There was some issue with the vehicle apparently from the previous owner and the person helping me needed assistance from a manager or something to sort it out. I was left in the dark, just standing at the counter until she came back to the desk and gave me an extra form to sign. I realize that these employees have to deal with unprepared people all day long, but I had a reservation, pre-filled and accurate paperwork, and still it took multiple hours for what in my opinion should have been 20, maybe 30 minutes total. If you have to go to the dmv in person because you need to do something that cant be done online, good luck! Be kind to the tellers, its really not their fault its so poorly managed!
I cant say that NY State is handling things well, as there was a 2 1/2 month wait to get an appointment for the CDL written test. But when at the office, everything went very well. All the personnel were very attentive, professional and very nice. I also got in and out very quickly.
Great!!! I had no appt reserved and security directed me to call dmv.gov...i was on hold for 20mins security guy says he put me in since its a non-drivers license ID ...Everything else was a mysterydidnt have all the point...missing proof of residence but I pushed n with all the dmv personal doubts the system accepted my ssID, citizen papers and drivers license...shocked dmv personel that the system allowed processing NYS ID...Mystery remained in trying. Kudos miss hanson
I arrived 20 minutes before they opened and of course they had a huge line out of the door, which I expected but was very irritating because it was so cold. I was given a document and a number and told to go wait. And thats what I did for over four hours. They would get close to my number, U837 and then all of the sudden switch to different numbers and itd be another hour before they worked towards U837 again. Finally when my number was called all the lady did was take my picture and told me to sit back down. At that point I had been there for three hours. Eventually I was called again to the window and when I gave the very nice lady my paper work she told me that unfortunately my Oklahoma license was too new so I either could wait until April to get a New York license or bring a different document that shows the length of time I have driven. And I couldnt print it off or email it to them, I had to wait for it to come in the mail. The only reason Im giving two stars is because the woman who helped me was very sweet and gave me a paper that basically says I get to cut the line when I come back with that paper. Im irritated because what I saw on the website said nothing about having ta specific time on your license Ill show what it told me. They need to work on their number system because its its horrible.
The lady at the information desk was unnecessarily Curt and rude. Instead of listening to my questions, she simply tried to shuffle me along and not explain even the simplest detail. I ended up getting skipped because I had to try organizing my documents in the seating area and didnt hear my number. Despite the issues, I was still in and out within about 45 minutes, and all the other employees were pleasant and helpful
I went to the MVA a month ago. After reading the reviews I was a bit hesitant on going, but pushed myself and went. When I got there at 8:45 am there was a long line outside the building , but a few minutes later some workers came outside asking what the individual was there for then directed us to the correct line. I found that everyone that works there was very nice and everything was in order, the only thing was the long wait of 2.5 hours, but I had no problems.
Awful experience. Waited for 3 hours for nothing. The computer system went down. I had my birth certificate with me that they said wouldnt except because it was ripped. Its old and was told it looks like a copy. Poor customer service.Went back again and waited an hour. The woman who renewed my license with was rude. I gave her my application which had my new address information and she got annoyed because she didnt look at it and I had to point it out.
I arrived on a Friday at 8:30am at opening time. There had to have been about 30 people ahead of me already. I expected it to take forever. Make sure you bring a pen. There are no free pens. You can purchase one in the vending machine for 25 cents. I came to renew and apply for an enhanced license. I printed the form at home and had all my necessary paperwork. I did not have an appointment. I can see how this place doesn’t have the friendliest workers. But I can’t believe how many people would argue with the employees over ridiculous things. One customer came in and had his necessary documents but didn’t want to fill out a form. I mean honestly he was just being difficult. The person who took my photo and the person who handled my payment and verification were all very nice people. I was in and out in exactly one hour. By the time I left at 9:30 am there were a ton more people coming in. This place def gets a lot of business so I can see having to take a day off of work if you don’t plan on being there when the doors open. All in all I had a positive experience at this dmv.
Be prepared to sit here for 4 or more hours. Got there when they opened at 10, and by 2 by number was not called. I had animals relying on my care and could not risk sitting around for any longer, the staff refused to even indicate my position on the wait list. I had to leave. Now its 8:30 in the morning, and weve been outside in the freezing cold for about an hour and still are not inside. I would recommend taking the time to drive to one of the offices upstate. Give your money to an office with respect for people.
I have been there twice and on both occasions I have felt the hostile treatment of the people who work there except the security people, this last time it is my first time processing a license I made my appointment on the page and made the mistake of put another procedure, although due to the pandemic and all this situation, the office is empty they returned me home without being able to do my procedure, I think that before people arrived and did their procedure even if they did not have an appointment. i dont recommend this place
I made the appointment online and I had done all the paperwork and copies in advance. The day of my appointment the lady at the window was talking to me like, she didn’t want to be there and forgot to add my Veterans status to my new license. I didn’t noticed until I received my new license in the mail so now I have to do a new appt. poor customer service.
Showed up 1/2 hour before my appointment and have been here for 2.5 hours. The kicker - Im here because they messed up my birthdate when I came in 2 months ago. That trip only took 4 hours of my day.Seriously - I thought the appointment would help, but clearly it doesnt. Lost cause. Stay away.
I don’t know why the people who work here are so rude, miserable and mean. This place isn’t even that busy. The workers are all fat and unprofessional. Worst customer service I’ve ever witnessed and I’m coming from NYC . Terrible service but faster wait time than surrounding locations.
Sorry I had to pick one star. This box wouldnt let me pick zero stars. If there was less than one star, like a minus, I would give it. Inconsiderate to the point of rude. Looks like they hate to answer questions. Always empty stations ( I know they are entitled to breaks, but they should have some extra people around to fill in ). Felt like they were empowered to the point of they can do no wrong. Took forever and felt very uncomfortable. Fix it. This has been going on forever. Take some customer service classes.
At first I gave this DMV office a 1 Star review because of the less than friendly clerks working behind the counters. But since then, It’s been about 2 years now, I have only been attended to promptly, professionally, and in a friendly matter by every single employee. No one likes going to the DMV because of the wait times, but what people don’t realize is that we make our own wait times when we forget to bring in the necessary documents and proofs of identity to help complete and expedite the transactions.
My sister and I drove here from NJ to attempt to create a transferable registration or other document for an untitled 1948 automobile that we needed to sell it. Not your every day transaction. Our experience with the employees in this office was terrific. The greeter at the door listened and steered us to our first contact. He was fantastic and helped us with paperwork and directed us to Walgreens to print a photo of the serial number, and said we could go the front of the line when we returned. We did and he gave us a number to talk with another representative, letting us know that that person would likely need to call Albany to resolve our problem. We met with a second person who advised us that we would need to meet with a supervisor as she wouldnt be able to process our request. Both employees were polite and the first one stopped by and asked us how we were doing when he went to his lunch break. We then met with a supervisor who spoke with Albany, and then provided us with the necessary forms, in duplicate, and explained what the buyer of the car would need to do with the forms upon the sale. Nothing further was needed on our part. All together, including the 20 minute trip to Walgreens to print the photos of the VIN, we were at the office for less than 1.5 hours. Everyone was polite, helpful, and we left with our problem resolved. I wish the DMV offices in NJ ran as well as this one.
I made an appointment. I had to sit through 40 minutes of traffic to get there from my home, 4.3 miles away as the crow flies. When I showed up, on time, they told me that their cameras have been down since 8 am, and Im welcome to wait or come back another day.Why in the seven hells would you not send me an email telling me my appointment has been cancelled???? Its twenty-bloody-nineteen! Cant you send a mass email to, you know, the people who HAVE GIVEN YOU AN EMAIL ADDRESS FOR APPOINTMENT RELATED COMMUNICATIONS!!!!They are hell-bent on living up to their reputation.
I took my son to get a drivers permit. First of all, when we called the receptionist did not tell us we needed to bring a birth certificate and social security card. Because we were not properly prepared, we needed to drive back home to get the proper paperwork. Upon returning we were told the last appointment would be 3:30 we made it in by 3:29 and the man at the front counter gave us a ticket. At which point our number was called shortly thereafter We went up to get his photo at window number 17. We were then ushered back to the seat to wait for the number to be called again so he could take the test. By 4:58 p.m. our number had not been called and the man in the back of the Room as we are now the only people in there, told us to go to window number 5. When we got to window number 5 the woman told us we shouldnt have even gotten a ticket anyway because the ticket was stamped as 3:31 p.m. The woman told us we could not take the test it was too late, they were closed. I asked to speak to the manager who came out within 3 to 5 minutes. She claimed our number had been called, and we missed it. I can assure you our number was NOT called. She didnt care and said that wed have to come back another day. Overall a horrid experience that I am reluctant to partake In again. TRUE STORY
Was with child and had to wait 4 hours. Finally, when I was done - When I walked out of the building I realized that I should use the bathroom before getting on the road. As soon I as walked back to the building, I was denied at the door by the security guard and was told that I couldn’t come inside to use the bathroom even if I was with child. Lucky for them nothing seriously happened. Mess with the wrong person, and I can see a huge lawsuit hitting them up soon. That’s be.
Doing some update to my previous review, (before I gave 5 ☆ because I got the most amazing experience ❤ with Alba , she was super nice, willing to help and answer question)Today July 1st 2021 came to dmv, security guys arr the most disrespectful people, they couldnt be more rude or may be the can, they all are very nastyIf I could give 0 or -5 star Ill do it.
Friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff. I called two days in a row inquiring about a suspended license. The first time I called the woman walked m through step-by-step how to pay my fee online and answer all of my questions 100% accurately. The second day I called to make sure my license suspension was lifted and this time I met a woman who was so nice she actually joked around with me and we had a good laugh. That Attitude definitely helps when you just paid $450 so just so you can have the privilege of driving again. Although I waited about 40 minutes on the phone the first time I only waited about 20 minutes the second day. Ill definitely visit this place for all of my DMV needs.
I Went on a busy afternoon to get a permit and waited a very long time till the whole process was finished. The at the last step when everything was complete and they just need your money the credit card system went down and you can’t go upstairs to the ATM because they were about to close and if you go upstairs you will be locked out even if a family member is waiting in the DMV office so you are just going to be forced to come back and wait threw the process again because your picture doesn’t last after a certain amount of time................... so you can’t even get someone else (Parent etc) to go pay it for you because they need a new picture..............
I love this place, I have never spent more than 20 minutes. The guy who greets you knows his stuff. I had to renew my license, all of 5 minutes and NO LINE. A lot of bad reviews, I do not know why. People who complain usually wait until the last minute to do things...AND then nobody moves fast enough for them.
THE WORST DMV EVER!!!! I would’ve rated them 0 stars if I could.. I came to update my license and to change it to a REAL ID.. Something you would’ve expected to be a simple process, costed me 3 TRIPS BACK TO BACK TO THIS OFFICE IN THE SAME DAY!!! I prepared myself days in advance making sure I HAD ALL OF MY DOCUMENTS + FILLED OUT THE APPLICATION prior to my appointment just because I I seen and heard so many negative reviews about this location and I was just “trying” to avoid my headache. BUT, the STAFF is definitely POORLY UNDERTRAINED because I had 2 employees trying to inform me on something that I KNEW WAS INCORRECT, called for a supervisor and she basically confirmed that I was right. No one seems to really want to help you. You can tell everyone is really only there to get a paycheck honestly. My time and patience definitely was tested yesterday and I “ALMOST” FLIPPED! The place was even surprisingly halfway empty (I guess due to the fact that they’re only accepting reservations to enter) and I was STILL sitting, waiting, AND WASTING all of my time because OF COURSE SOMEONE forgot to put me in the system! On top of that, no one even apologized for the inconvenience.. NOT EVEN THE SUPERVISOR!!! The crazy thing is that I’m new to the county and this was only MY FIRST AND DEFINITELY MY LAST TIME visiting the office in West Haverstraw. This place needs to be shut down ASAP! It’s a disgrace that it’s even called a DMV. It’s also scary that these people are even allowed to handle your important documents and they have no clue what they’re doing! Sadly, the ONLY helpful employees in that ENTIRE BUILDING were THE SECURITY GUARDS!! IF POSSIBLE, JUST TRAVEL TO ANOTHER DMV AND SAVE YOURSELF FROM THE HEADACHE!!!
Frankly speaking, I dont wanna visit here cause there are full of bad reviews only. But I found something new about this place, theres no long boring waiting lines outside of the office and all 15 windows were opened with kind officers who worked with their smile.I met 3 people about my exchanges with NJ license and plate and they showed me the good enough attitude though Im not native speaker.Never hesitate visit here!
I would have rated them 0 stars if that was an option. I had a reservation at 1:30pm. They didnt see me until 3pm. I had all of my paperwork so I get to the counter, they take the paperwork and I go to pay; however, she tells me I need to wait again to be processed. What the hell? Going on two hours and still not processed.
I went there in the early morning and it was not that bad. I filled out the forms and waited for my number to be called. People , give yourself extra time then you wont press for time and would take some stress off the cashier. The cashier was friendly, nice Haitian woman.i called just to have a question answered and had to go thru at least 15 pre recorded instead of press 0 for operator. It was insane.
Terrible messed up place, had an horrible experience with the nasty worker standing at the entrance after I filled my paper he told me to wait at the big line by front desk.. waited over 45 min until another (nice) worker ask me my reason Im here today, I showed him my paper and ask me Why are you standing at the line!? You just need a ticket from this guy (entrance guy) I told him he send me here! He said WHAT!?! come Ill give you one!! (The person next to me at the line had the same story)And the rest waiting was over 2 hours!! Very bad place...
Could it be any more difficult to do a simple registration? These people seem to take 45 min breaks and work about 5 minutes at a time! I waited 2 hours one day, returned the next and waited another 2 hours and still have not gotten what I needed. The bingo board system to call the waiting numbers has no rhyme or reason. It seems highly unfair. We pay a lot of taxes and deserve a better system than this! If I could give it a 1/2 star it would be too much. I am a professional and my time is valuable. It is unacceptable to waste this much of ANYONES time. I did have one clerk who seemed nice as she was telling me I had to come back; but the other clerks were, well, I cant write profanity here...
Waited over two hours WITH a reservation.... All forms pre filled/ printed and signed ... For a licence replacement and upgrade... had to leave for work, empty handed and dissapointed.Very rude and inept employees grreting you, and a private security guard sticking his nose in goverment funtions.
I would like to commend this DMV Location And it’s management. During these trying times this office has figured out a system that works beyond efficiency. For a NY State Government agency that usually has a very antiquated system , I strongly urge to the commissioner of DMV that the management and employees of this location be recognized For their hard efforts.
A lot of people write reviews only when they have a bad experience but I just want to say Ive been at this location about three (3) times and Ive never encountered a bad experience and Im always in and out in no time. I went there this morning with my dad and we were out in under 10 minutes which is marvelous. Also the customer service there is always polite, may not always be smiling but they are very knowledge.
Where people do not help each other, it is not known to anyone, so they do not let anyone go inside. Okay, lets do it. If there is no matter, whenever he does not understand it, he will go inside again. Will come out by He does not even know. To ask one thing, whoever comes along, his family members do not know what is in the DMV. If you do not know what is the license or what is the use of anything else, then a person comes to Jim India bar and comes again. What should I do forDMV people who are not good?I am speaking to some people, not speaking to all.
THIS HAS TO BE THE WORST DMV I HAVE EVER BEEN TOO!!Been here 4 hours just to make a payment on a new ID.Staff is super slow and it looks like they hold everyone here pass 4pm so they all can make over time. You have people sitting on the floor, everyone is aggravated and the staff is just sitting around taking their time.i wish i had an option to give u less then 1 star... YOUR SYSTEM HERE IS HORRIBLE!! Waste of a day
Having traveled this country and lived in different states, this by far is the worst DMV in the United States of America. Poor customer service, they are rude and not knowledgeable. Ridiculous waiting times, multiple windows, but no agents working them. You can have a simple question and they will answer with a tone and wrong information. Hopefully one day someone will be held accountable.
I cant believe Im going to say this, but my trip to this DMV went wonderfully!Started out very shaky....I had an appt but system was down and they threw me into the line from hell. But very quickly they came up with an alternate plan for us with appt, got us in, and my number was called within 10 minutes, and then I had to sit and wait again, and within 5 minutes they called my number. Got me all taken care of and I was on my way! Total time there....about 35 minutes
This place sucks!!! Its impossible to get a hold of a representative on the phone and these people seem to work at the slowest pace possible!! Horrible service. Theres no direct line to actually speak to someone on the phone. Horrible service. License wasnt even delivered on time. No communication whats so ever. There seems to be very little help when you actually show up to the place. What a terrible place to be. If I could give it ZERO stars I would!!!! There seems to be like 14 counters/windows open yet only 3-4 people working every day!! We pay our hard earned taxes to have a better system than this! The person running this place does a horrible job. Many people here need to be fired. All the money this place makes and we cant get any help around here what the f****
If you show up early, do your research and bring everything that you need, and be nice to the people that work there, then you will be in and out quickly and happily. Even the manager came out this morning and helped me out with my process to make things go by quicker.
Thursday is late night till 6pm. I got up earlier so I can go to work earlier so I could leave earlier to get to DMV. I got there at 4:40 and it was 7pm when my number was called (they close doors at 6 so no one can come in). I made sure I had my birth certificate, social security, copy of pay stub with address, copy of electronic credit card statement with address. I checked proof requirements 2x from their website. Low and behold my name on birth certificate does not match last name on all my other documents, of course not, because Im married. He asks if I have my marriage license on me, which I did not bring. Now I have to go back tomorrow and take time off from my job. Just warning women who are married bring your marriage certificate because they need to see the proof of name change. They should make sure that is written on their website.
The system has improved 100% , it is fast if you have all paperwork done correctly!!The window clerks are rud and not helpful. From what I saw they treat everyone the same way horribly. Never a courteous gesture nor a soft and gentle person.Their is no one to help fill out complex data dealing with government terminology on paperwork...Why????All procedures done at DMV are $100 and up!!In a month I have spent over $2000 on two cars getting titles, plates and registrations done.It is horrible treatment, must hate their jobs.I know life is not perfect and I dont expect perfection at the DMV . COMMON COURTESY AND TREATING PEOPLE WELL IS NOT THAT DIFFICULT...!!
This place should be closed down..!! IF YOU CAN SAVE YOURSELF THE HASSLE THEN DONT GO THERE..!! YOU WILL REGRET IT..!! If you do end up going there BE PREPARED TO HAVE THE WORST DAY AHEAD..!! Shame rather then a pride to even have this place in our county..!! It took my 3 hours from start to finish to take my written test .. get a picture taken.. and be handed a proof that my permit will come in the mail.. I had all my paperwork filled out with me.. yet I was given a punishment to sit down on those hard wood blocks and stare at the walls infinitely until some soul takes out 2-3 minutes from their precious day to call my number..!! Also be mindful the employees are rude.. nasty.. unwilling to help and have a non caring attitude... Ms.White in particular who sat in cubicle 12 .. has a filthy attitude and will only stare at you if you ask her a question..Stay 100 feet away from her ...!! TIP: BE PREPARED TO WASTE HALF OF YOUR DAY IF NOT FULL AT THIS DAMN OFFICE...!!!
I cant say that sitting in a DMV for 4 hours warrants a 5 star review. With that said, the 5 star rating is being given because of the incredible customer experience I received from Christine. When my insurance company let me down, she went out of her way to ensure I was taken care of with the utmost respect and patience. In an industry that has always had a bad reputation for care, Christine went above & beyond. Consider yourself lucky to be greeted by her when you approach the window in Haverstraw.
I wasted hours on Friday because my sons insurance card listed his name as Greg and his license states Gregory. They refused to accept it. I ran out at 3:50 to get a corrected card and the flunky security guard would not let me back in at 4 pm sharp. I went back on Monday and was given # C846, and they were up to # C835. I was there 40 minutes and they were only at # C836 so I left. They were calling every letter except C. They truly are the most clueless bunch of employees ever. I didnt want to waste my day so I will go back at 3:50 pm when they work their fastest so they can go home. TERRIBLE service.
I wish I could give it zero stars. Every few years I make the mistake of trying this God awful place. Got here at 3pm on a Thursday for a simple transaction and a couple of hours later its still no where near my turn. Ill go back to driving an hour out of my way rather than come here again. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place at all costs.
Thats the worst place i have ever been in my life . i bought a car and i wanted to register it . I went to dmv , first time i waited 2 hours. than they told me that something was missing and they marked it on paper. i did it and i went back next day than they told me that the title had to be notory registered. i dont know why they didnt told me that last day , so the owner is living in Filadelfia and im living in new york, i went to filadelfia and i did the notary today its friday im here :)) and they told me that something else had to be signed by the seller. and they gave me a new paper:)) which they didn,t gave me 2 times before:)) now i have to go again in filadelfia :) tomorow and after tomorow dmv dont works:)) and i dont have OFF from work till saturday :)) and i dont have a car to go to work:) but these retards just dont care . i will probably lose my jobe because im a driver and i wont be able to work without a car :) you are the worst place i have been in my life. they dont even want to answer questions i asked them 5 times if there was still something that i had to do. to prevent third time this problem . they told me No that it . and here we go here I am ;) and i have to wait 1 more weak. + the rudest personal ever. they treat you like peace of ..... they dont even want to answer questions. !!!!! it should be closed. thats your managers fault. a good manager just has to check the reviews and almost 90% thinks thats a horrible place . If the manager or the Director is Normal he has to understand that something has to be changed but they dont care.
I got to DMV at about 1 pm to renew a registration. I was assigned number Q596. I sat there as the computer called out letters and numbers. I heard Q586 and Q587 called. Then, over the next 30 minutes I heard over 30 letters and numbers called, BUT NO Qs. I asked the person working the door and was told the Q person probably went to lunch. REALLY. The boss at this location needs to be fired for allowing this to happen to clients.
I called in transferred from Middletown in search of documents that were not given back to me from my proctor on my road test and the lady was clearly not in a pleasant mood and while I understand that this sort of work is tiresome but it doesnt give you a reason to just brandish your attitude towards a new driver whos trying to look for a simple document and have to spend 7 min. EXPLAINING the whole story of WHAT the document is because she mistook what I said to be something for my insurance and told me that they dont deal with that and I apologized and tried to close the conversation but still persisted on what it was that I required. Need to get your workers in shape and with more Common Sense for respect for others if they ever want a PLEASANT response from their customers.
What did I like about it? Nothing, after years of coming here and living literally next door, Ive decided to go 40mins to the next dmv. Its not worth the wait, the people dont deserve my time. They pocket cash, use incorrect information to trick you into paying more cash. ($600 to register a vehicle because you think its stolen?) Then trying to say I was uninsured for 6 months, leaving me with a suspended registration (no letter in the mail to confirm that it was suspended, therefore could not fix the issue without the case#) and a bill of $1,120. I brought in proof that I was insured and they dropped the bill to $200. For what? So you can get SOME kind of cash in your pocket? Disgusting work, unexperienced people, supervisor didnt even know how to handle the issue.
I made an appointment and showed up on time. They gave me a ticket and told me to wait for my number to be called. An hour and 15 minutes later I asked how much longer, so they told me my ticket was never entered into their system!!! Gave me another ticket and just told me to wait again, at the end of the line. Never coming here again! Save yourselves the time and drive to another location.
I wanted to share with everyone my experience at the DMV in Haverstraw, New York. I hope somebody recognizes the disorder and poor treatment of costumers by the DMV employees and does something about it. After my second unsuccessful attempt at changing my address on my drivers license and changing it to an enhanced license, I decided to go in for the third time on 02.05.2014. With almost no people there I thought the process would be quick and painless. Instead it was just the opposite. When I came up to the window I was informed that I needed a proof of residence, at that point I went back home to get the correct document showing my new address. Due to the poor weather conditions I made it just in time before closing (3:59 PM and was still issued a ticket thus I should have been served accordingly) and proceeded to the window. The lady at the window took my picture, went through the whole process, I paid and was ready to leave. At that point a man, who appeared to have been the manager, walked in and said not to serve me because I was too late. This occurred after all my paperwork was DONE and PAID for. The lady at the window was just as shocked as I was and seeing she was intimidated by her superior she voided the transaction, gave my money back and directed me to another window. At the other window another lady denied me service and said we cant help you. you have to come back another day. I then asked her to please speak to the supervisor to which she replied that she was the supervisor. I proceeded to explain that it was my third attempt at completing my change of address application. On the previous attempts I walked out empty handed for various reasons, from waiting countless hours on line to missing documentation. Her response to my plea was I cant help you... Im trying to make sense of all that happened and understand why is the DMV system so backwards and the employees feel the need to abuse power. Once my transaction was complete wouldnt it have been easier to just let it go? Voiding it took more time and effort so in what way is that fair to me or the employee? Now I have to take another day off to come for the fourth time. Its incredibly infuriating and an inefficient way of doing business and dealing with customers. I live in Rockland County and pay the county taxes, I expect a better service and not to have to deal with somebodys rude attitude and unprofessional service due to their lack of empathy. I have all the paperwork (three window tickets, an application REVIED by the DMV employee and SIGNED) proving that the transaction was complete. Through writing this review I hope to reach out to someone who can recognize the unfairness, unprofessionalism and inefficiency, and with that in mind can make changes within the DMV system to bring better service, more friendly and more efficient employees.
Ive been to this place several times in aim to renew my ID because I am prompted to make a reservation online and every time its a different story. During this pandemic its more difficult to get the simple things done. I took this photo from the dmvs hallway. Hopefully it can be of assistance to someone
Talk about being stuck in a time warp. Im sure time literally stands still in there. It is totally inefficient system and being that the area is practically a borough of NYC one would expect more than one in the area. Back to this place in Haverstraw, the staff wasnt half bad. They werent rude nor unhelpful. The lost of stars was the wait and shuffling people around when everything could have been done at once. Unfortunately, there is no other DMV around. I just wish the NY MV was more like NJ. In NJ i barely had to ever wait more than 20-30 mins.
Waited almost 2 hours with my baby to register a vehicle and after the almost 2 hour wait I was turned away because the woman at the counter insisted that the signature on the title did not match the signature on the paperwork, which WAS indeed signed by the same person. The car was purchased by a seller in Queens so now instead of being able to drive my new car I have to get a signature AGAIN from queens and my husband and I have to struggle to get around with one car as I went on my ONLY day off. Terrible.
This is the worst DMV Ive ever been too- completely due to the poor attitude and laziness of the staff. Never in my life have I had such a hard time getting a simple registration task done. Ive already been there 3 times in one day, and each time they turn me away for something new. An intelligent person would assess the paperwork, and if anything was missing, explain it all the first time so I wouldnt have to repeat the experience... Not this place. DMVs in general have a bad rep, but honestly, the staff, facilities, and processes of most DMVs Ive been to around the hudson valley have really improved over the last few years. Not this one, its absolutely terrible, unecessarily slow, very poorly staffed.. Next time, Ill drive over the bridge to White Plains.
This place is horrible I think we should have a state shut down they work so slow. That it wouldn’t make a difference if they are closed or open they waste your time. The only time they wake is up is right before closing because they want to go home. Shame on our governed for not getting his offices in order. Instead he drives over the tappen see bridge
Wish I could give negative stars. Not enough staff. Systems down every time I go. I was there for 2 hours for a license plate replacement. The lady who took care of me was so grumpy, and talked to me like complete trash. Horrible experience. Don’t go to this location!!
Very inexperienced employees, dont know how to deal with customers. Employees sitting behind the counter feels like they are the president of US. Waiting time is forever. If anyone plans on visiting make sure to bring food and call out of work, because it will take a whole day even for minor matter.
Went there today first thing in the morning to title and register a vehicle. Had all forms pre-printed out and filled out before getting there. I purchased the car at a fair price of $1500 which if you look at the book value is right on target for the vehicle in the condition I bought it in (25 year old car with nearly 100,000 miles that I am repairing). Got to the window pretty quickly and the rep, who in all fairness was pleasant to deal with, looked at my tax form and asked if this is fair market value for the car. I said yes. She then proceeded to check the NADA website to look up the value of the car and tells me that according to NADA the value is $7800. I said you have got to be kidding me. Maybe if the car was in pristine condition with low miles but even thats a stretch. I asked what price is she looking at and she told me if the car is in excellent condition and that is the value that they use. I told her that was ridicules and that the car wasnt even roadworthy when I bought it and there is no way on Gods green Earth that the car is worth that much. She says that is what she has to base the tax on and what do I want to do? And I said, no way am I paying that much tax as its ridicules. Is there anything else I can do? So she tells me I have to go back to the guy I bought it from and have him sign the tax form stating that he certifies that he sold it to me for $1500. How ridicules!Edit: went back 2 days later after contacting the seller and having him sign and email me both a signed tax declaration form (DTF-802) and bill of sale. The guy lives in another state over 150 miles away. I get up to the counter with all my correct paperwork and this time get a very rude woman. This is a copy! She exclaims, to which I told her the guy I bought it from is in a different state and he emailed them to me but as she can see, they are all matching signatures and all my paperwork is in order. She then goes on to take a red pen and mark up all my paperwork and tell me they have to be originals and not copies. This place is joke. Ive bought and registered many cars in the past and never had these problems before. I saw the same woman be rude to the two prior people before I got up there. Only go to this DMV if you really have to, otherwise take my advise and go to a different DMV just like I will now do.
You can set up an appt time on line before you go to the DMV office. It seems people do not know this. Go on the DMV website, follow the instructions to set up an appointment. I had to renew my license and my registration. I was in and out of there in 20 minutes. Very friendly employees who knew what they were doing.
Worst place ever to register a car, I’ve been waiting for two hours and still they haven’t call my number. Out of 18 people that are supposed to be helping, only 4 are actually working the other are just walking around. I’ve seen so many complains about this place and DMV doesn’t do anything about it. Apparently they don’t care about the reviews! Thank you for nothing.
Ive rated the Rockland DMV poor-fair because that is the lowest possible rating. My experience there this morning (5/15/2013):Having just donated my old car I had my license plates to turn in. I walk up to the information desk. The woman sees the plates and says, Youre here to turn in your plates. Is there anything else you want to do?I say, I dont know. Im not sure of the procedure. I just donated my...Thats as far as I got. For the next two minutes she sternly interrupted every single sentence I started, never letting me say why I was there. It all eventually devolved into her saying over and over, Tell me what to do!...and I kept saying, I dont know. What is the proper procedure? This is how it goes at the information desk at the Rockland DMV. A simple matter is turned into an unsolvable recursive loop shouting match because the woman does not want to be bothered with giving out basic information.professionalism = failcommon courtesy = failefficiency = failI’m sending a complaint to the DMV but who knows what will happen. I think next time I’ll take another commenter’s advice and drive across the bridge to White Plains. I was there a few times years ago when I lived in Westchester. I remember it being better.
Horrible. Useless to make an appointment. Had an appointment at 11:30 and didnt get called until 1:30. Too many people and not enough employees. Very very slow and very rude for people that make you wait 3 hours to do something that should only take 20 minutes. Would never go back here!
So far I havent seen any worse place like this.I went there for my Id and every agent was so slow I cant describe. Now I did everything deposited fee and they gave me a receipt and told me that my document will arrive withn a week in mail it has been over two week I dont know where is my document and I tried to call and I dont know what they told me.So such a terrible experience so far
First of all, fire the woman who greets you at the door, she a she has no clue how to do her job, everything she says is wrong, second who ever is in charge of this place has no clue how to run a business, they have 14 counters a full lobby and three people barely working, fire them all. What a joke!!!
Worst place on this planet ... They move so slow, they dont care ... Always a 2 hour wait minimum ... After that 2 hour wait I was told I wasnt in the system and sent to the back of the line ... Normally get denied and have to return the next day ... Its just the worst ...this place make me want to explode ... Go to the express in Nanuet or just any other DMV for you own sanity
The worst service Ive received in a DMV. After 3 hours of waiting the clerk told me I didnt have the right documents for my transaction. The lady at the front shouldve advised if you have everything right before for YOUR LONG WAIT!! Never again will I go back to this place
There is a reason this place has such bad reviews. The employees are terrible, the lines take forever, and they always give you trouble when they can. I went in today to get my car registered and I sat in line for an hour, filled out all the paper work, and then after looking through everything they tell me that they cant register my car because my insurance doesnt have my middle initial on it. Avoid this dmv
This place is the same as most government offices it looks like they want you here all dayOf you come here count on at least 2 hours or more of wait timeAnd the guard as you come in is not helpful at allHe has no issue on giving you the wrong ticket and when you see you got a wrong ticket he is saying just wait a bit longerI think its time e for the state to privatize more of the DMV services they have already some services you can do at other places but not yet all services

2022-05-12The absolute most backward place I’ve ever been to with the rudest security on EARTH. Went into work early and left early from northern NJ at 4, drove 40 minutes to this DMV since it was the closest one to me to surrender my plates…. A 2 minute process. I walk in at 440 just to be told they stop letting people in after 430…. Even though they close at 5… I’m talking to security to explain that they say they’re open until 5 online and he literally walks away mid sentence. I saw another gentlemen that drove an hour get literally pushed out, another one get a hand in his face by security when he was calm and composed. I can’t even begin to comprehend how a state agency can have the most unprofessional allied guards imaginable and be so unprofessional to close at 430 even though they’re open until 5? I don’t stop taking calls at work 30 mins before closing, why in the heck is a STATE AGENCY allowed to make up their own rules on when they close? Drive how ever far to the next one and stay the heck away from this place. Don’t think about going after 430 unless you want to get into a nasty argument with security guards. So glad i moved to NJ.

2020-01-10I have been here 3 times trying to get my permit. I was left outside waiting for up to 3.5 hours in the freezing cold. They let me inside when I needed to use the bathroom. But then kicked me out and told me that they can’t process anymore permits for the day. I came back the following day and I got in but was waiting for about 5 hours until I got to the counter. The lady then sent me home because my card didn’t match my name on my passport because it was one letter off. When I went back for the third time they accepted around 20 ppl and sent everyone else home with appointments for Saturday. If I can give this place 0 stars I would.Staff was unfriendly and not putting in enough effort to be considerate to people who came along way and took off work for this.

2021-04-08Its been sometime. Altho its covid times the only real trouble was standing in line outside...other than that my wait time was pretty much standard while inside. I was treated really nice by my handling attendant. She was very nice and knowledgeable.

2019-04-08It should be 2 stars, the extra is for the supervisor. I know its such a well known fact that DMV service is slow, but as i entered at about 11am i was pleasantly surprised with the service. The female in the front quickly asked me what i was here for, handed me the right application and pointed me to the correct line to stand in. All this within 5 minutes. My turn came quickly, Scott told me what paperwork i needed and helped me with what i was missing and sent me on my way with my number to be called. Few minutes later my # was called and i got my picture taken for the license change. All this was within 10 minutes. Then began the real wait game!! I waited about a hour and a half before i was called to the window to have my application processed( which basically entailed putting in the correct name and address and scanning the paper work i brought in and then issuing a temporary license). The dmv rep. Could barely speak two words to me, ms white/ whyte told me i needed to finish the application before she can do anything( basically sign the back and few check marks) which i understand is not her job i should have done that. But what bothers me is that when i asked her will you call me up to come back, she just stared at me like i am crazy. She would not reply so i asked again u will call me and she said ok. So i sat there another hour and a half waiting for my number to be called cause ms. White could not be bothered to have a full conversation with me. After which my sister pushed me to go to anyone since no one was at that window anymore. I went back to the front desk who told me that my # wasn’t in the system. So i somehow found Scott in one of the windows, who actually listened and said go talk to the supervisor Roco i think his name was. He was really helpful and told me to go the next window and I would be helped. When my turn came it took a total of 12 minutes to process the paper work, pay for it and be on our way. So basically its better to be extra extra prepared because some people will go out of there way to make life hard for you. I mean helping you is there job but what do i know about customer service. The supervisor was helpful and was nice as well. With No attitude or why am i here working in this dmv face. It took us about 3 and half hours but we got what we came for so the trip wasn’t a total waste of a day.

2021-05-13Given the nature of our society right now and the stress everyone is under to stay safe while servicing the needs of customers, this office is doing a great job.

2022-03-24Grew up in Rockland, but have since moved around the country; this is by far, the WORST DMV Ive ever been through. I dont know if its the higher ups making everyones job miserable, but even by DMV standards, its terribly inefficient and unkind. If its a work culture issue, stop being terrible to the people who work under you. The lack of efficiency has no excuse in todays world. Get it together.

2022-05-13The employees of Motor Vehicles should be forced to use the system they design. Same horrible customer service, same attitude and same outcome. They are horrible.

2021-10-12My customer service representative Tia was great! Very professional, and very helpful. She also was very knowledgeable and helpful to me. I am a 57 yr old new driver and could not have been nicer. Had a great experience.
