The Worlds Fair holds a special place in my heart, not because I was present, but because Ive driven past this site all my life, but havent truly explored it until a few weeks ago. This is one of the pervading symbols of Queens, and it much more breathtaking in person. Although its a shadow of its former self, it did get repainted yellow, so I hope this is a sign that they might restore it. You currently cant go inside, and what used to be a tile floor depicting the world continents is now covered in weeds.
It gets a three to average in the structure and mosaic (later mentioned) itself, with the fact that its abandoned and condemned. The New York State pavilion at the 1964 Worlds Fair featured two restaurants in the air, which much have had quite a view, although not much shows up when you Google it, and a magnificent mosaic map of New York State. When i was younger, you could walk in and around and explore the ground level space and mosaic, but time has taken its toll, and now its closed. Not only cant you walk in, its also tarped off. Perhaps to protect us from falling debris?? Perhaps not. Its interesting to walk around and look at it, but maybe thats because of the remnant of the fair I remember when it wasnt in such a dilapidated condition.
The pavilion itself is a sight to see (especially if youre a Men in Black fan) but dont expect to get any closer than taking photos this Worlds Fair piece of history as tours are offered very, very infrequently and only during special occasions, if at all. The nearby Queens Museum has a World Fair memorabilia exhibit which nicely complements this pavilion.
I was 7 when my parents took me to the Worlds Fair, I remember the Unisphere and the NYS pavilion both structures are still standing and not in bad shape. The huge Uniroyal tire ride is gone.Water fountains and benches from the 1965 fair are still there. Walk ways and curbing have survived. Its a huge park like setting now, its worth a look in the warm weather, and its free!

2020-11-29Really interesting tour of Corona Park that included NY Pavilion. History of the structure is really interesting. Beautiful in its current state but hopefully, one day, it will be reopened to the public again

2019-07-11Its amazing that they turned such an interesting abandoned relic into a thriving park with people skating, walking, food trucks and plenty to look at! Im very glad I got to visit on my trip to the city.

2020-10-06For structures erected nearly sixty years ago, the New York State Pavilion is in decent shape and hearkens to Queens heyday when it hosted the Worlds Fair. Some upkeep is needed, but the structures themselves are very iconic, which is why they were prominently featured in Hollywoods blockbuster Men in Black. On September 16th, 2020 the Libertarian Party of Queens hosted Larry Sharpe outside this location.

2017-02-07I visited in the winter time around the first week of February, and I had a nostalgic feeling knowing this place was once a center of attention, and home of the World Fair, waking around is just quiet, and kinda of scary, place looks abandoned but your can feel the vibes from time past.

2016-10-31Mind blowing… even if you didnt watch men in black the first movie! What a lost gem. If they can restore the fountains in the pool of the giant globe, the glory of the old days will be back!
