Just got back & am stuffed! Great family restaurant. Large portions at reasonable prices. Bread was great. I had fettuccine with meat sauce which was very good; my wife had chicken Marsala which was even better. I would highly recommend for really good Italian food in relaxed atmosphere. Wait staff friendly efficient & not unctuous. Go!
It was one of the best restaurants I have been to. The food was brought out as it was being made and it wasnt soggy. The pasta was hot and it had a special sauce that just really made Bland pasta spectacular. The staff and waitresses were on the ball with everything that needed to be taken care of. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anybody for a casual dinner or for a large event
Absolutely terrible! On the outside the restaurant looks beautiful. I had higher expectations seeing the outside of the restaurant. I sat down to plastic table cloths and drank out of plastic Coke cups rather than nice glasses. My boyfriend and I ordered the cold antipasto...both of us are Italian and enjoy the meats and cheese. We were presented with a chef salad...not an antipasto. No soppressata, no cappacola, no prosciutto, just salami and some cut up cheese. Then the waitress came back to our table with with a bowl of pepperoni and apologized for not including it. I would have accepted that...however, after she apologized she proceeded to place the pepperoni on the antipasto WITH HER BARE HANDS! Right at the table in front of us! We were absolutely mortified. We finished our dinner (which tasted very good but who knows how hygienic the back of the house is if the servers are putting their hands in the food in front of customers) and left knowing we would never come back again. Absolutely unreal!
I am pretty picky about most things and although I wouldnt say this place is the cream of the crop for Italian dining- its without a doubt the best you will find in the area. The owners are Italian (nice perk), pleasant and welcoming. I have only ordered more simple dishes here- such as ravioli, linguine and the like- all were much better than the other local offerings (such as Antonellas). Not fantastic- but doable and certainly at the prices they present. Decent portions. Decor could be better- but not horrid. If you are expecting exceptional, you wont get that here (or anywhere in the immediate area for Italian, you will have to go into Westchester Co. or NYC for that). But for decent Italian at a reasonable price- you wont be let down. My only complaint, is that the drinks could be better- but they dont offer much of a bar either...so again, it is what it is.
Easy to find on RT 9. Pleasant building. The room was set for our group. The waitress was very accommodating, taking coffee orders, getting tea for one member. Food was served family style. Serviceable Penne pasta ala vodka, pretty good eggplant rollatini, splatter halt sausage and peppers, half meatballs, and a platter of chicken marsala. Pitchers of soda, water, and unsweetened tea were provided. A nice venue for a group party.
Fooled again by reviews. It saddens us that we wont be returning because we were quite unimpressed by the food, however, the wait staff were attentive and lovely. Meal started off with doughy flavorless garlic knots, and poor quality Italian bread. My husband & I shared the appetizer special, fried ricotta cheese. Sounded interesting, but turned out to be a pile of mushy bread crumb coated cheese served atop greens & served with a side of marina sauce. Totally unimpressive. We then shared a sad looking salad of mixed greens, some shredded carrots, &1 small slice of tomatoe. Worst eggplant parmigian weve ever eaten. Didnt taste like eggplant, just tasted soggy breadcrumbs, covered with poor quality mozzarella cheese and sauce. Ziti was way overcooked. Portions average. Prices for that quality of food, overpriced. Place needs to be updated, however pretty clean. So disappointed with meal, we didnt want to add insult to injury by attempting desert. Unfortunately the food is repeating on me, so now I have to be doubly disappointed.
Wow this place was good. Had the veal scaloppine piccata which is both uncommon and difficult to prepare well. I was able to cut the veal with the side of my fork, the angel hair pasta was perfectly al dente and the flavor was excellent. Also had a fresh mozzarella appetizer with tomatoes, roasted red peppers and capers that was GREAT.The service was also very good. We were a party of nine from work and they stayed right on top of everything. Just awesome.
Terrible. The breading was soggy, the food smelled awful and tasted even worse and it was pretty run down. The blonde waitress was really annoying and awkward. I have no idea why it is always packed. Me and my girlfriend just threw out our take home boxes. We refer to it as e-colis.
Wife and I went 1/30/15. We hade a reservation and arrived a few minutes early. Hostess greeted us right away and with a warm manner. Seated us at a very comfortable table for 4. Waitress (Susan) was an absolute delight. Warm, friendly, and caring. Spoke to and took a genuine interest in my wifes shellfish allergy. Started off with a martini and glass of Cabernet. I had the clams casino appetizer which was outstanding. Next was the salad, Bread and garlic knots were placed on the table with olive oil. My wife had the chicken/bow tie pasta in a pesto sauce special and I had the veal & chicken alla Nicola (with red peppers, eggplant, ham, and mozzarella). Outstanding! 2 large medallions of each! Had 2 Peroni beers with dinner. For dessert: I had the Pistachio tortuffo (a sort of an Italian baked Alaska), cappuccino, and a Sambuca with coffee beans. The bill was less than $110. You decide if it was worth it. The food was outstanding and the service impeccable. We will be returning without doubt. The only complaint (minor): the gravy (no self-respecting Italian calls it sauce unless its on a pizza) on my side dish was a bit on the sweet side. Not the end on the world. The atmosphere was comfortable and the noise level was minimum. The décor was modern but very old-school Italian. We live in Westchester but this place was well worth the ride. Cant wait to go back. When in Cold Spring or Garrison, stop in and give it a try. Very highly recommended.
Went with a group of 11, service was not good. food was not up to par. we had issues with food and when we spoke to the waiter he was dismissive and rude. sauce was salty and veal was tough and was not very accommodating in taking the meals that were Inedible off the bill after admitting they tasted the sauce and it was salty

2022-06-03Nicolas is a neighborhood eatery serving up home cooked italian dishes. My wife and I visit often since we live so close - were never disappointed. You can tell Nick pours his passion into the restaurant. Stop in or order take out, youll definitely enjoy it.

2022-02-26The short, thick, drunk waitress with blonde highlights needs to go. Obnoxious. She wasnt even our waitress and came over to us at the end of our meal telling my fiance she doesnt like him because he gives her bad vibes. Then she accused him of waving his hand at her in a derogatory way. She was slurring her words and again... wasnt even our waitress. We did not have an interaction with her prior to this My fiance is the sweetest, quietest person, and she clearly had hin confused with someone else in her drunken stupor. The quality of the food is irrelevant to her flagrant disrespect and unprofessional behavior. We will never be back. What a disgusting establishment to allow your employees to get wasted on the job and harass your paying customers. An absolute embarrassment.

2021-08-22A pleasant surprise. I have passed Nicolas many times in my travels to and from Long Island, and finally decided to check it out. In a nutshell, I wish this restaurant was on Long Island because it would be my neighborhood go-to place.I have read several of the bad reviews, which mentioned plastic tablecloths, run down interior, etc. Get over yourselves. This isnt meant to be fine dining. Its a 47 year old family owned and operated restaurant. They put their heart into their food, and my wife and I found everything to be outstanding.I cant wait to go back.

2021-08-30Very friendly people at the restaurant. Wait between courses was a bit long. Due to the waitress kept getting sidetrack with idle talk with the regulars like 20 plus minutes or so. The food was ok too. Overall, I say a very friendly restaurant with pleasant people.

2021-04-14My friend and I just had a wonderful meal at Nicolas. Both dishes were delicious and served hot. The waitress even went so far as to lend me a pair of eyeglasses since I left mine at home. Definitely on our list for another visit.
