No. 1 Sushi in other cities:
Always get your moneys worth! Its an amazing place to get quality sushi, apps and desserts. Come with empty stomachs, because whatever you dont finish, you have to pay for! But honestly, who ever has that problem ;) I love this place because it has a nice and clean atmosphere and kept up very well. Its a sit down buffet style where you at the served and it blows any expectations of a sushi buffet you might have way out of the park.10000% recommended!
We have been here several times in the past few years and have loved the meals - yesterday was a big no.The only hot food that came out of the kitchen was the soup. That was delicious. We ordered hot food and it all came out cold. When we sent it back, the waitress sighed, rolled her eyes and took the plate back. She would be back in minutes with the plate that had been microwaved so it was not good. The calamari was greasy, over done and had obviously been precooked and recooked in the grease. The noodles were hot until you got to the middle. They were cold. The Shrimp Shumai was ice cold and we could not eat that either. The sushi came out and was not the sushi we ordered. Our server was avoiding not just our table but her other table as well so we just ate it. The seaweed was frozen so that we could not eat either. We noticed another table having similar issues. Finally we spoke with the man that was serving as he asked if we wanted dessert. We spoke to him about the issues. We showed him the food and he laughed. He said “okay very good”. And then dropped the check. I was disgusted that we had to pay for food that we did not nor could not eat- we will not be back. Ever. We should have gone to Cho Cho San
Prob shouldnt have come on a Wednesday which is always the worse day for sushi. Got the all you can eat and none of it was that good. Disappointing, but again, it could be because its Wednesday and been awhile since the sushi was fresh. The Hibachi Chicken was bad too
A okay all you can eat sushi place. The food tastes fairly good. Its not the best around, but considering its all you can eat its pretty good. The service is kinda meh. Not really attentive and is somewhat slow. If youre looking for decent buffet sushi in Nanuet though, this is a decent place to go. I personally prefer chochosan, but this place is okay.
Zero rating to this place. In all honesty I really liked this place and I always went there with my friends but I went there the other day and the service was beyond bad not only that but the employees were rude to the point that I didn’t tip. That’s beside the point that the food tasted bad and the sushi wouldn’t hold together. But I wish that was enough the employee started yelling at me for not tipping, kicked me out of the store and told me to not come back. He kept yelling at me in the middle of the store making me feel attacked. I have never experienced such a bad experience in my life. He told me “get out and don’t come back because we are not going to serve you” it’s so sad to see how rude people can be. If there was an option to put not stars I would choose that.
Just awful service. I just walked out after being ignored for 20 minutes. They only care about crowded tables. Food was well below average. I love shasimi and sushi and know great sushi, good sushi, and nonsense. Their fish is nonsense. If you order more than once, the taste and quality definitely go down. Something fishy is going on. Number 1? More like number 0 sushi. Two words: Teaneck Sushi. Poor people of orange county 😔
My husband and I ate here for all you can eat. The prices went up since the last time we came- $25 for weekday, $27 for weekend. But it was still worth it! We probably got about $70 worth of sushi and sashimi. $15 worth of ice cream and a couple of cups of green tea all for $62 including tax and tip. Little steep for an every day occasion, but for a ton load of DELICIOUS sushi and other fixings we’ll definitely be back for another date day.
I saw a lot of negative reviews but this is a restaurant Id been to and enjoyed a number of times so I decided to go last night anyway. They absolutely outdid themselves. The sushi was SLAMMIN. We do the all you can eat, its economical and I like choosing each piece and role myself. The sushi was so fresh and flavorful, honestly it was as good as my favorite place in NYC, Japonica, down near Union Square, where Ive been going for 40 years. And I guess they took these reviews seriously because the service was super fast, honestly I didnt think they needed to rush quite that much, I felt a little bad for the chefs and servers. We gave them a little over 20% tip. They really deserve it. Cant wait to go back.
I came with a big group of friends on a Sunday and i’ve come here on multiple occasions before. The service has always been pretty bad. They were usually rude but we didn’t care cause the food was pretty good and i wanted to give them other chances. So i came in on a Sunday as usual and i ordered a Kani Salad. As i’m taking my third bite of kani i had felt something in my mouth that definitely wasn’t lettuce. I pull it out and i was literally chewing PLASTIC. So disgusted that i didn’t eat anything after that and just asked for the check. When i told the waiter she didn’t even say anything, nor did she apologize. She had a straight face, nodded her head and WALKED AWAY. Absolutely disgusted end this was definitely my last straw coming here. do not recommend (unless you enjoy chewing plastic ;)
Absolutely worst service in America. I will never come back to this place. Waiter just disappeared after bringing drinks. I came here with my family and they never brought over utensils or plates for the kids. If you are looking for a family sushi restaurant, this is not the place for you. The soup was cold. The food was disgusting. The order was all messed up. Never again.
The worst ever, brought ice cold tea, frozen seaweed, cold hot entree, came back with hot microwave plates fish was not fresh, I told the server several times, sent back several plates, calamari was disgusting could not take the smell, never going back ,,,not worth the money and diarrhea
The sushi is good but the service is TERRIBLE. I would give this place no stars if I could. The waitresses are so rude. My husband and I asked for a box to take one of our sushi orders to go, and the waitress told us it would be an extra $5, which is not only ridiculous in itself, but then she yelled at us because we ‘wasted food and shouldn’t have ordered so much’ because we refused to pay $5 for a box that should be free. Needless to say, we didn’t tip. Absolutely ridiculous. I’ll never eat here again.
My son is allergic to peanuts. Specifically told them and wrote on the order sheet peanut allergy. We ordered the habachi noodle plate for him, one of his favorites. He ate it, 30 minutes later was vomiting mucus and had welts on his face.EpiPen to the rescue. Wait staff denies peanuts. Must be the oil used to make the noodles .Sometimes Chinese operated Japanese restaurants use peanut sauces as thickeners as well.POTENTIAL PEANUT ALLERGEN(S) ON MENU ITEMS .
After trying so many AYCE sushi places around Rockland and bergen counties, No.1 Sushi is by far my favorite. The whole experience is amazing, from seating your group, delivering the food in no time and always smiling and delivering the best customer service.Food is also always fresh.
The sushi was okay, but the service is what really inspired me to write a review. The service was slow when my friend and i came in, even though it wasnt busy yet( it later got busy so i understand). what was memorable were the attitudes- i can understand one waitress having an attitude, not everyone will have a good day everyday but they shouldnt all have an attitude. What closed it out perfectly, was the lady at checkout looking at the receipt, then looking at us, then looking at our table. So we then decided to leave a little tip, and thinking back on it- they didnt deserve it.
The food was good but service was lacking. Instead of sitting in the corner folding napkins and talking, attention for the customers is far more important. The bell to notify the servers the food is ready was practically ignored. In addition, only one server was friendly, the rest appeared to be annoyed to be there. Very strange, but the food was good. Pearl River location is better.
Im beyond upset with the new ladys on staffthey were extremely rude to me and my partywe went to celebrate my daughters birthdayone they limited our food and kept saying if you leave this food theres a extra charge every time they would bring food or drinks which made me really upset .. they didnt tell this to other ppl at allwe were the only none white ppl there btw ..this was weird becAuse we go here even before covid and during covid we ordered take out to and the moment it opened back we came here .. the new waiters are rude amd wanted to charge the children as adultsmy 4 yr old was charge as a adult im extremely upset and i asked for manager and the ladys went to the bar and huddled and never got a manager .. i miss the old staff they were at least nice to my kids....this staff ruined our birthday dinner ...limited our food legit they didnt bring anything after the first time we order ....oooo and one of them felt offend by 2 pcs of sushi that had fallen and wasnt able to eat since it fell in the floor and rolled her eyes and i dont know what she said under her breathe ....the newest girl tryed to get us food but the other waitress kept taking the menu from herthis is soo upseting we will not be going back to.this location after 4 years + to be singled out im a full night was crazy ... we tended to go from 1 to 3 times a week with a group and left big tips ...yes i have called to speak with owner and no one lets me speak to him or manager
Was here for my birthday, never told them. Everything went well, until my last order tasted absolutely disgusting. Like straight-up dish soap rice. I couldnt get the taste out of my mouth for hours. It was a busy night and we were there for about 40 minutes, guess that was enough for them. NEVER AGAIN, I still cringe at the taste 2 years later.
Food is good. But, lunch is the same price as dinner and i got less food. So if you go at lunch, make sure to tell them you want lunch, not dinner. Do not go WEDNESDAY different staff, not personable! Im upset; i tip well. No wasabi or ginger and seaweed salad mostly lettuce, which i cannot chew. First time i vomited from eating the rest later on. I paid for seaweed salad got 75% lettuce! dealing without net delivery is a waste, as they mess up or order we still have to drive there and lose more money.
My siblings and I ate here this past Saturday. What a disaster! The wait was 45 minutes. No problem except we were a party of 4 and there were three tables that we could have sat at, open for about 5 minutes before anyone noticed. But how was anyone to notice? There was no one to seat you. No body was working the front door and taking down names and parties, the only person they had doing it was also serving food and at one point left the front for about 15 minutes with 10-15 people waiting for tables. Then it came time to order our food. We ordered 96 pieces, if we got half of that we were lucky. We took pics of our next order to make sure we got what we ordered and sure enough they shorted us AGAIN! The food is good but the service is horrible! Will not be returning.
Ive been here several times. The Sushi is absolutely worth it for $20. Best BBQ squid and crispy Calamari Ive had. The alligator and diamond rolls are our favorite specialty roll, and the red bean ice cream and fried banana is incredible. For the quality and quantity of the food you get, its definitely worth it.Plus the staff is always friendly, and very responsive to your table. They dont make you wait 20 minutes for a refill (like some other buffets), and always make sure you leave happy. We will continue coming.
We are frequent patrons of No. 1 Sushi - both the Pearl River and Nanuet locations. Cant say enough good things about these establishments! Ambiance is excellent for date night with the wife or a family night out with the kids - we have a 2-year old and 4-year old. Service is outstanding - the wait staff is very attentive and friendly. The food is always fresh and awesome!
Went here based on the recommendation of a coworker. There is all you can eat sushi which the sushi was small and not very good. We live in NYC and we were in the area so we do have different standards of good and bad sushi. The other people in the restaurant didnt seem to have a problem. The hot choices, tempura and katsu, were much better. We talked with the co-worker after which he replied oh I dont get the sushi, I get the hot dishes. Thanks dude...thanks. the people were nice and attentive but the sushi is 4 out of 10.
My wife and I love this place. Attentive service, fresh sushi (prepared as ordered), beautiful presentation, awesome and attentive servers, all you can eat! My daughter who lives in Maryland, cant wait to get back to NY to have dinner here. NO.1 Sushi, an appropriate name. Well deserved!
This restaurant had terrible customer service. We had to wait 10 minutes for a waiter to greet us. After waiting time, the messed up the original order 3 times to the point we had to put in new orders and wait for another 40 minutes for food. The people couldn’t communicate and just walked past us looking blindly. As a server in a fellow restaurant I know how open communication can make customers make feel more comfortable. I feel that the staff here never served at a restaurant before. WHAT.AN.AWFUL.EXPERIENCE. HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND!!
Got food poisoning from this place. Had been here a few times before and everything was fine for me. My brother got really sick but since it was just him, we didn’t think much of it. The next time I went however, my husband and I both got super sick. Never eating here again.
I gave this place three tries, and they struck out. The food is fine, but the staff is completely uninterested. Dined in once, slow and poor service. Tried the take-out twice, both times I waited 30 minutes for a “dinner for one” sized order. There are better places for Sushi.
Have been coming here for YEARS and will continue to do so. This is my go-to restaurant for sushi. We used to go to the Pearl River location monthly, which is about a 20min ish drive away from me and we were ecstatic to hear they opened a location closer to us! The Nanuet staff are very attentive and the food is always fresh and delicious.
I’m pretty disappointed in this place...I’ve been coming for almost 2 years. One time I found a hair in the food, where the waitress took it back and still charged me full price (this was about a year ago). And then now a couple days ago, I went and got food poisoning from the place. Food poisoning from sushi is NEVER fun. Idk if they’re just not sanitary or if I just have terrible luck...so bummed bc I thought I had finally found a decent all you can eat place.
1 star doesnt even do it. We ordered food for delivery which never came ( 2 hours +) and when we called ( also even showed up!) the place was closed. As we were doing this the pearl river location called us. They said that their manager said we were picking up ( more than 20 min away) and that was that. If it wasnt for the awesome nice woman I talked to. ( pearl river location) we never would know what happened to our order. Never again.
This is your typical all you can eat sushi. So dont expect to eat the best sushis youve ever eaten here. Expect quantity over quality. With that in mind, the variety of the menu is good enough, you have sashimi, sushi, maki and special maki too. You also have the cuisine which have the classic tempuras, miso soup and japanese salads which are all okay. The sushis are okay. Often they put alot of rice, but not so much that it surprises me coming from an all you can eat sushi place. So in the end, the taste of the sushis are good enough to satisfy your cravings.Service was very fast, but not courteous. All the waitresses seem very uninterested and bored to death. I mean, its job, its never fun, but you can at least pretend. So overall, taste is okay, service is good it deserves a 3.5 stars AS an all you can eat sushi restaurant, but if youre looking for fresh and tasty sushi, look elsewhere.
Let me be clear, I gave this plae a lot of chances. At one point i came to this place on the regular due to their affordable $20 all you can eat. We always got ordered an abundance of food missing, usually barbecue squid. The squid was usually good, but when they forgot it and we asked for it again it was cold. About the sushi, its ok, there are places far superior just a mile away. Here is a tip as a sushi-lover make your rice and seaweed more loose, if you dont the main flavor get congested. And now the service.. oh boy.. So this place gets very busy quite often and we so happened to come in one busy night and oh my god its a disaster. You see a couple waitresses running around everywhere, i feel bad for them, especially since one of them was just standing around. seriously,so disorganized. And now here is the worst of it. One day we came in for lunch and it seemed the employees were eating aswell. We had a nice waiter who gave us good service but then we saw something peculiar. She walked over to the employees and minutes later a chef smacked her. She was crying for the rest of lunch, we felt so bad.Overall, #1 does not deserve to be #1! especially in an area with an abundance of sushi businesses
They charged me twice for my meal which made tipping generously infuriating. I got delivery and when I opened up my container a fly flew out of it. That ruined my appetite completely because I can only imagine what their kitchen looks like if they are packaging up flys for customers to eat. I got several orders of sushi. The avocado in all them was terrible. Their yakisoba was the greasiest and blandest yakisoba. I didnt finish my meal. I wouldnt ever eat here again.
Came he after a graduation. A Thursday night so it was a steady crowd. It took over an hour and fifteen minutes to get one plate of sushi which consisted of 5 rolls. Our original order was 10 rolls. We were a table of 6. It then took over another 35 min to recieve the remaining rolls and a second order that we had placed. Again the second order was missing rolls but at this point it was already after nine and we had shown up at 7 PM. We paid our check n left. Never again will we be back.
My husband and i went out for dinner and we got the standars buffet. we orderes some hot food first, shumi, edamame and a shrimp tempura they tasted good but you could tell they were frozen and store bought. After that we got bunch of sushi and sashimi i was so excited to eat all the food. After i had a bite of tuna roll felt disgusting i couldnt swallow it. the smell was so awful like rotten fish and dirty socks. when i had looked closer at th sashimi it was very dry, almost crusty and was badly discolored, the tuna looked brownish red and the fluke was a tan color. my husband and i love food, and work in the industry and both have years of experience with making crudos and ceviches. this fish was beyond expired not even suitable to cool and eat let alone eat it raw. shame on them for serving that garbage, they are going to seriously hurt somebody. after we told the manager she asked us if we would like to order more food haha. we declined we got up to leave and she ran over and insisted that we paid for the hot food which totaled almost 30$ about the cost of 1.5 persons for the buffet. ridiculous will never return. there are many other sushi restaurants in the area that will not serve garbage.
Food was just Ok. The plates that they served the food on were disgusting. I think they washed them in luke-warm water, leaving an oily film on them. I know the food is meant to be authentic but it would really help if the staff spoke fundamental conversational English.Youll get superior food and service at half the cost less than one mile up the road at Momoyama Sushi House.
WOULD GIVE 5 STARS BUT THE SERVICE HAS DECLINED . I LOVE THIS PLACE AS IT HAS SOOOO MANY GREAT OPTIONS! THEY HAVE MANY DIFFERENT OPTIONS AND CATER TO BOTH SUSHI AND HIBACHI LOVERS! THIS PLACE IS SMALL AND CUTE AND THEY USED TO BE REALLY FRIENDLY I HAVE SEEN A LITTLE DECREASE BUT MAYBE COVID HAS EVERYONE WEIRD SO WONT FAULT THEM FOOD IS STILL AMAZING JUST WISH THEY GAVE MORE FISH BUT DEF WORTH EVERY DOLLAR MY GO TO SPOT!
This place is absolutely disgusting the man at the front register took my order (not a issue) and was very nice .. now why do they get a one star from me ? Well they had flies in the case where they have the sushi flying around landing on the food we are eating and it fish not very sanitary.I told the girl working about the flies and she just pointed to it told the gentlemen making the food to pull everything out they laughed.. I ask for a refund and the gentleman who took my order called the manager and ask him he said yes and to give me a new order.. Then that girl again had a nasty attitude and slammed my money in my hand and said bye you can leave and I told her nicely her manger said to give me the food and my money she got mad and told the same guy that took my order yes and she got mad and told the other gentlemen not to make me food and she was told and the other workers were told to make my California roll. The gentleman who took my order was nice everyone else was rude especially that one girl acted as if she didn’t want to be there
Great pay one price for ALL YOU CAN EAT... simply select items off the menu and they will provide them for you... portions are smaller than average but helps with portion control... on catch to avoid people from over ordering is you must eat what it ordered or the item will be charged st full price... Will definitely go there agsin...
Great food as always except for our last visit when I brought some friends for dinner. Our server could not understand english and messed up some of our orders. Nobody cared to ask how we were doing. No supervisor/manager present and In the end, we still paid for all the unwanted orders.

2022-03-13Been here two times, on odd occasions. One time, it was empty and we got our food served at long intervals. Then yesterday, we went when it was packed, and our food came much quicker. In any case, I feel like the buffets in Long Island and elsewhere, they read your whole order and actually serve you it all. This place kind of glances at half your order (particularly if you order a lot) and only serves you that, and then you end up having to reorder whatever you ordered in the first place on a new paper because they assume you wont eat it all, at least thats been our impression as other members in my group have been here more than I have. Its a good measure for not wasting food, but so far, this is the only buffet Ive been to that does this. I guess you get your food either way because theyll eventually give you another paper, but Id rather they size up our group and trust our initial order or at least ask us are we sure like at another place I went to, instead of serving us half of our order and then having our party guess if we got everything we ordered. That said, the food is good and the scenery is nice. I attached the menu and some of the orders we got.

2022-05-22Definitely good food here. Service here is good too. At first I was little doubt to try this place. But in the end it surprised me that their raw fish was a fresh melt in my mouth feeling taste.

2021-10-24I have been to No.1 Sushi in Nanuet three times and I must say that I really enjoyed the food. We always get the all you can eat sushi and it’s a lot to eat so come with your stomach empty lol. I do not remember the names of the sushi that I like as my boyfriend helps with that selection but they’re pretty good. The staff is also pretty efficient and we didn’t really have to wait long to get our food.

The staff is friendly and prompt.I would not recommend this restaurant if you are a sushi connoisseur and looking for sushi excellence. The sushi is just ok.Overall if you are looking for an entertaining dinner with a group at an economical price, you will enjoy yourself here.
