A dont miss place! Hello, eating lobster on a boat in the Hudson!! Whats not to love. Tickets to get on the boat are $10 and you can get them online in advance. They go out every 2 hours starting at 1pm. If you are lucky, theyll let you stay on for multiple trips, but may ask you to move to the lower decks so other people can get good seats. You could also just buy tickets for two trips, then you can stay on all day :) This is one of my favorite places to be and I think Ive been on this boat 10 times and Ive never been disappointed. Sometimes their service is slow, so be patient, hey youre on a boat in the Hudson, enjoy the beautiful view! This boat goes to mud town, but if you want to go downtown, try the taco boat- its at the same dock.
My friend and I did the famous 4th of July Destiny Cruise together on 7/4/21. We were warmly welcomed by management and staff and they went above and beyond to accommodate us both since we both had hearing disabilities and my friend also being vision impaired. I want to give a shout out to management and our servers Damaris & Matthew who were all outstanding to us. Now to the food and the entire experience, the drinks were great, and the Buffet was very good, a nice selection of dishes, and the lobster was cooked perfectly, the meat was sweet and succulent. We were served dessert which was a nice selection of miniature bars and cheese cake, scrumptious. Now I want to bring this issue to Management and the staffs attention regarding a family of 4 who were from Texas, they completely had no regard for my friend nor me, during the fireworks this one woman from the group just swopped in front of me while I was trying to balance myself on the bench while trying to film the fireworks, I was not happy about this, but then when it was time to dock on our return, the staff accommodated my friend and I to disembark before the rest of the guests, these two woman of the family of 4, cut me and my friend off while we were walking to the exit, I screamed at them and basically told the gentleman at the gate that those two women just cut us off and I lost my friend because of what they did and I lost my balance! Like I said no regard or respect for people with Disabilities, they had an air about them, me, myself and I attitude, I even talked to a few of passengers who witnessed the ordeal and mentioned to me that those people of 4 were extremely rude since the beginning of our journey. I was visibly upset and thought this kind of behavior is uncalled for. What those two women did was reprehensible! Besides that incident, the staff made our night. Thank you to the entire management and staff of the North River Lobster Company. Its definitely a experience everyone needs to try!
Disappointed on this years trip on the boat. 2 years ago celebrated birthday on the lobster boat. It was a amazing time with a long time spent on the water (until it closed). We never got off the boat and celebrated the whole time. We decided to go it again this year after the great time we had previously. This year we went out on the water, didnt go to far down the Hudson before it turned around, docked then we were told we had to get off. It was very quick ride and we were not expecting to have to get off like the previous year, we were planning on spneind the whole day on it.
Reserve a timeslot for $10, show up a half hour before your reservation, board the boat, and enjoy an hour cruise up the Hudson (youll get even with 79th street). Food and drink on board is optional. The lobster (and lobster rolls) were decent, tasting pretty fresh. The oysters werent that fresh and they had run out of clams. Our server was great and we had a good time. Bring sunblock and a windbreaker in youre going to sit on the deck.
For the money you spend on this place the service is mediocre at best. The server was OK but we didn’t get our food for almost 45 minutes to an hour after we had ordered, the waiter and the manager didn’t check on us until after we had said we hadn’t gotten our food for 30 minutes and the tables around us had already gotten their food and had eaten most of it.The manager offered us a free round of drinks, but we told him that we didn’t finish our first round and that we didn’t want another round of drinks, we wanted our food. He said the best he could do was give us a round of drinks. I gave my drink to the person next to me because I didn’t want another round. The table next to us was upset and had some choice words with the manager about our situation. When we got our bill they didn’t comp or discount any of our food and my friend asked for the manager. Basically the manager said because of the ladies next to us had an attitude and was rude to him we didn’t deserve her discount or anything and that the round of drinks that we didn’t want was what he could offer us. When we explained to the manager that we didn’t know the people beside us but that they were just as upset as we were because our food was very much late and you only get about an hour on the boat he proceeded to a mansplaine the situation to us. My friend and I both work in the restaurant industry so we understand why certain things happen but not once did he felt apologetic; he talked over us and mansplaine the situation over and over again.I want to note that we did get a 20% discount at the end, but only after haggling the manager over a problem that wasn’t ours to begin with. And the server was nice and apologized several times even though it wasn’t his faultYou should go for the views, but that’s all.
Took my family on Father’s Day to the Lobster boat. We were on the boat for two hours, the boat docked we didn’t receive our order. Then the rude supposed manager wanted us to repeat our order, because the original waitress never put in our orders. Hands down the worst experience. I can understand them being short staffed, but the rudeness of the staff especially the manager was was very disappointing. I wish I could give them zero stars
We brought our family visiting from Nashville on the North River Lobster Company boat. My husband and I are New Yorkers and have been on it a couple of times. We ordered Lobster dinners for the 6 of us. but after almost an hour were told they were not serving lobster anymore- 3-oclock boat on a Friday-two children in our party were getting hungry! Very disappointed- we reordered shrimp, oysters and lobster rolls and were served as the boat was docking. Felt rushed to eat our meal while we heard the waitstaff saying they were going to be the heavies By the way - dont mind dropping half a grand for a Friday afternoon meal in NYC- if it is worth it...
I wish I had gone at the start of the szn vs the end 😩 such a vibe! I got there 40 mins before the 1pm departure and had a very easy, organized check in. The manager escorted the first group of people to the top and, calling me the queen of the boat, gave me the best seat in the house at the end of the boat 🥰 I wasnt planning on ordering much at all but that view was inspiring so I had the froze, the Batten Down the Hatches, and two of the LES lobster roll (the only roll that doesnt come with mayo!). Tbh I was really worried bc I DESPISE everything seasoning but it was just too dang hot for mayonnaise but it was sooo so so good! The lobster meat runneth over and the everything flavor was subtle, I had to have another. Daniel was my server and was so kind and so hospitable, just like the other reviews say. The ride was for an hour and felt like a vacation, it was so perfect!
For $10 boat ride on the Hudson cant beat that! Enjoyed every minute of it! Food was amazing! So fresh! Only problem I had was they didnt service until the end our waitress said sorry we missed placed your order. And I didnt even get soda even tho they charged me for it...I will try this place again. Just feel like they got to busy...cant wait to go back.
Great way to turn a regular date night into an experience, purchasing the tickets online was easy and boarding the ship was also very swift. The lobster rolls and drinks were delicious! Sail time was perfect as well, as soon as we finished our drinks we were docking again. Would highly recommend this restaurant if you are a lovster roll lover as they also have several options to choose from!
First time here and we loved it. Sails around and you can see the Manhattan skyline very nice. Food was good get the truffle fries. Lobster roll was very good. And we got the lighthouse drinks for $25 strong and good. It was empty for the first sail around 3pm we could have gone again if we wanted.
Experience 10/10, service 5/10, food 2/10. It was a great experience and the weather was so nice we loved it, it is only 10$ per person to get in the boat but food is little pricey; we got a 20$ beef burger and 24$ lobster sandwich; which tasted meh. Burger buns were old and dry and the meat had no taste at all. Service was pretty slow; we had to wait to pay until after tour is over and new people were starting to come in. Just be aware; We figured out later that It is a place is where people usually go to get drunk and have LOUD conversations and LOUD laughs that may make you jump from your seat. And be there early if you actually wanna enjoy the view and weather, we were there 30 minutes before tour and luckily found one table on second floor, outside.
You need to purchase a ticket for $10 to enter the boat. Food is not mandatory to purchase. They serve alcohol in small cups, souvenirs cups and a fish bowl for big groups.Their classic lobster roll was average, nothing special. The wait for truffle fries were horrible. From when I order my fries to recieving it, was roughly an hour. When I got my fries it was SOGGY, and the seasoning has clump up together. The view was okay.
Their lobster rolls are fresh and delicious. I also love their various other appetizers like popcorn shrimp and fries - perfect for sharing and perfect for eating on a boat with cold drinks 🤗 for those that are wondering, this cruise does not go down to the Statue of Liberty. But the views of the Hudson are great!
Fun quick outting on the Hudson River. The boat ride goes North which is nice. The food is great. The shrimp were very good. Lobster rolls were great. The little neck clams were great and the burger was too. In my opinion, the shrimp was the best. It can get super busy on the weekend. Try to get here early for prime seating. Don’t forget sunscreen!
Weve gone on the lobster boat several times and have always had fun. The food and beer are on the pricier side but not too terrible. Just being on a leisurely boat ride around Manhattan is great. At night it becomes more of a party atmosphere while during the day youll have more families and tourists.
👍Pros: A day on a boat in the city! Wonderful scenic views on the Hudson is the perfect addition to a seafood fest. My hubby and I came here for a Saturday lunch to unwind and relax. I ordered the Double Truffle Lobster roll which came with tasty truffle parm fries. I also ordered a Spicy Crab Corn soup. My hubby ordered the Bacon Lobster Roll which came with Cape Cod Chips and a tiny Coleslaw. He also ordered Hot Wings. The food was better than we expected. The lobster rolls were DELISH and had nice large chunks of lobster meat on buttery rolls. The spicy soup was the perfect amount of spicy and it was flavorful with a nice consistency (not thick). Lastly, we ordered a beer bucket which needed more ice but it was cheaper to buy a bucket than buy them individually. Great thing is you can ride on the boat for as long as you please.👎 CONS: 1. Pricey! You can get Lobster Rolls with fries cheaper elsewhere. 2. Too crowded and takes away from experience especially if you cant find a table to relax, eat and enjoy the view. 3. NO CASH transactions, ONLY CREDIT OR DEBIT accepted onboard. 4. Hassle of finding seats in a crowd. We boarded the 1:30pm and it was already PACKED. The 1st scheduled boat ride is at 12:30pm and it seemed as if NO ONE got off the boat. We looked everywhere (all 3 levels) for outside seats and we snagged a nice table. We rode two trips and when we got off, the line on the dock to board next time slot was RIDICULOUS. I highly doubt those people got seats inside the boat. Lucky for us, we did, ate, rode, saw and left after two boat rides. TIP: GO EARLY & KNOW OUTSIDE SEATS GO FAST. And NO CASH ON BOARD!ONLY credit or debit accepted.
Best kept boat secret on the west side. Inexpensive and awesome for groups. I have been a few times, including with coworkers for a team building activity. The lobster rolls are amazing, and the drinks are standard. It’s not a lot of money to board ($10) and you can stay on as long as you would want (go on 1,2 or 3 trips!). Nice views and it’s awesome to be out on the water.
One of the best places to get seafood on the water! To be across the street from Chelsea all while eating a lobster roll in the middle of the Hudson River will literally change your life as a man, woman, and child! This is a 28” lobster roll and it is worth more than your car. come to this place and get your life changed. You’ll thank yourself later 🦞
Purchased the groupon last year😓🤦🏾♀️ which they honored 🙌🏾🤗 seating gets filled quickly but it was hot so we were fine sitting inside by the bar. Bartender was super cool, drinks were great!!! Their frozé is more on the rocks than frozen which was a disappointment but the bartender hooked me up when he realized my sadness lol. Took a little while for a waitress to come over but nothing extreme, we used to time to enjoy the view and talk. Lobster rolls were perfect!!!! Fish tacos however were more onions and whatever else more so than fish. Wish they kept the fish filleted and not shredded w/ so much lime. When we finished eating, we went up to the deck, enjoyed the views and the breeze was absolutely fantastic. Even with so much people around, we were able to be secluded in a corner and have our own little cute couple moment. You dont have to leave the boat once you get on, you can ride all day long if you choose.
This place don’t even deserve 1 star what a waste of money time and energy instantly I knew I would be mad the music was very low and I’m not even sure what they were playing the food if you want to call it food wasn’t even good enough to feed a dog I ordered a lobster roll that consist of tuna fake lettuce and an old tomato with a side of truffle fries which taste nothing like truffle fries the food was disgusting how is fries nasty I sent my entire meal back and I didn’t eat I left hungry and upset then to add to my angry they charged my card twice I guess they decided they deserve a 20 dollar tip on top of the 40 I gave in cash because I felt bad for the waitress people please don’t waste your time the food is over priced and you have to pay a fee to get on which should be free because it’s nothing to pay for this boat is a scam and is ripping people off
This place is a gem to New York City! I went there while on a trip and had a fantastic experience. Although the food is a little more on the expensive side, its worth it! You also get a great view of the Manhattan Skyline at night while dining! It can get busy on weekends so a reservation is recommended. Would definitely go again if I am in town
What a fun adventure! We took our two teenage sons on this dinner cruise, if you will, on an early Friday evening. The crowd was a mix of what looked to be young professionals kicking off their weekend and tourists like ourselves. The two groups mixed well, the energy was high and the ambiance was exhilarating. Pricing was very reasonable. Surprisingly so for the city. Our server did a great job. So very worthwhile!
My company had our first outing since COVID started on the North River boat - it was the perfect place since we booked the outdoor section in addition to our dedicated indoor space. We had plenty of room inside and out to spread out and make everyone feel comfortable. The food was delicious - notably the lobster rolls were honestly the best Ive had (and I used to live in New England!) and the raw bar was outstanding. Service was friendly and attentive, with drinks being replenished and tables cleared quickly. The staff checked in with me and my co-worker (the organizers) frequently to make sure everything ran smoothly. I highly recommend North River for a party - everyone had a great time and raved about it! My only recommendation is make the trip a little longer - it went by too fast :)
I took my mentor/second mother out for a sail and good eats as she was visiting from out of town. She really enjoyed it. I did as well. The food was definitely filling; the lobster mac bites ARE EVERYTHING!We enjoyed our drinks on the boat waaaaaaay better than at the Bayou bar. The drinks were stronger on the boat (in my opinion) as well as tastier. Daniel took care of us. He was such a hospitable bartender/waiter. He is part of the reason Im rating so high.I wouldve given 5 stars but the inside area (where the raw bar lives) was stuffy and humid, whereas the other levels did not seem stuffy and sticky at all. Our table had to get wiped down again, as it had an unfamiliar residue (you couldnt see it, only felt it when I placed my forearm on the table). We both had the signature lobster roll which was amazing! The corn was good as well. Save your money on dessert! I made the mistake of ordering the highly over priced oreo icecream sandwich. It is literally the Oreo icecream sandwich that I can buy 3 boxes of for the price that they charge on a sale day (2 boxes on a regular day lol). The chocolate covered key lime pie is also overpriced, I had to send that back it costed way more than the Oreo sandwich and looked less appetizing. The boat ride was enjoyable and allowed me to appreciate being a city girl. My mentor fell in love with the scenic tour and was taken away by the evolution of NYC (she hasnt lived in NY since 2003). North River Lobster Company comes highly recommended by me. This was an enjoyable experience.
Everything is overpriced, my drink was fully filled with ice. They only accept credit card payment. Almost all tables were reserved or taken by the people on the boat ride before me. And the boat ride itself is fine, but I expected more than just going up and down the river. And the weirdest thing is: I couldnt even take my unfinished drink with me outside of their terrain. The security person said You have to finish it here
We live nearby so this was a cool place to take guests from out of town. $10 fee each person to cruise on the boat. We went during lunch and the boat opened at 12pm, but it doesnt undock until 1:30pm. We went upstairs, ordered food and drinks and were able to finish our meal by the time we were cruising on the water. That gave us the entire time out to enjoy the sights and take pics. We went out along the UWS and back in 45 mins. Lovely time!
We have been waiting to come here all summer to try the 2footer Shelly sandwich. My fiance and I got tickets the other day for this evening. As soon as we boarded we placed our order and Oliver, our server told us they were not serving this sandwich. this is super misleading when you advertise this sandwich on thrillest and have it printed on your menus. He said they didnt have the large bun it comes on but we could order other lobster sandwiches. We each ordered one and shared the regular and the truffle parmesan sandwiches. The regular for 24 dollars, was pretty lame. It tasted dry and not super fresh. It seemed like more bun than meat. For 6 dollars more I recommend getting the truffle parm lobster roll which is served with fries and seemed to have way more lobster meat. Still disappointed they didnt have the Shelly. I dont think well be returning. Prices are outrageous and boat ride is super short.
Where should I begin! I was under the impression they had multiple boats, (its NYC! on a summer weekend afternoon!) Only one boat was in use for the public, while hosting a private event. Which meant it was very crowded and we were confined to the seats we were able to find with no access to the interior. One manager was yelling loudly that some outside tables were reserved for the private event. A waiter came to take our order, then was called inside, then a new waitress came to our table 20 mins after, she started to take our order and the loud manager actually came over, said I need you inside, I will send someone else for their order and took her to the interior! Strike one! After a few more mins, a female manager came outside with water. We didnt say anything, she said Im sorry for the long wait, we have a private event and one of our managers decided to let some more guests on board, I dont mean to put it this way, but you could have been left on the dock on the line waiting! Wow! That was rude and uncalled for, we were quietly waiting for service. Finally a new waiter came, instead of just starting with drinks, we gave our whole order because of the long wait. We ordered Hennessy with cokes (weak drinks, high prices), Rosé, three different lobster rolls, both clam chowders, truffle fries, and Grays papaya hot dogs. The Food did not arrived untill we made a whole trip! Then back to the dock with the boat almost ready to depart again! A very long wait, even the waiter was surprised we didnt get our food, he offered to go check on the order. The lobster rolls were lacking in flavor, my roll was hard, I threw it away, the truffle fries were good. The waiters were overwhelmed but very friendly. The boat ride was very nice. However, not the experience I was hoping for.
A wonderful experience with a great view of Hudson River and Manhattan. Tasty seafood, beer buckets, lovely music, you seriously cannot go wrong.ONLY COMPLAINT: once we ordered our food we were swarmed by bees. Which I will still give them a five star due to them not being at fault.... Just something to look out for.It is quite expensive but thats to be expected with the experience. They do not accept cash for payment!!!!!!
Incredibly disappointed with this experience. I went here about two years ago and was very excited to go back but now everything has changed. Now, they only let you stay on the boat for one ride at a time which they advertise to be 1hr but it’s a little under 45min. We paid for $10 tickets, drinks and food and barely had time to finish everything. It was a very expensive 45min boat ride and It was all way too rushed. I understand with a ticket you can go on as many times but considering the rides are every couple of hours and the boat rides are less than 45min, you’re waiting in line and on the dock longer than you’re actually enjoying the boat ride. I understand they’ve had to change their policies due to covid but they could have managed that much better. I will not be going back.
Not a bad experience at all; However I did not like the red lobster as I paid 50$ for it and there was almost no meat in it. I did like the Lobster roll which was full of meat and tasty and for 29$! The cruise is only for 10$ which is a very reasonable price! Dont go right away on the opening time as it takes them about an hour to depart from the harbor.
I expected something that was casual but still grand. Overall, I was disappointed. I felt like I was on a school boat trip where I got a lobster roll with my Cape Cod chips right in it instead of it in a whole separate tray (these are my personal suggestions). The food was okay but I had a better lobster roll at Panera Bread (yes, this is going to sound boujee but hear me out). The service couldve been better and they almost misplaced our order. The waiters kept on bringing the orders up to the cash register upfront which I thought was weird (people may have mixed thoughts on this). The waiters and servers also seem a bit unorganized. The layout of the place also feels so weird almost as if they dont have a large enough kitchen. Trash was being taken out in-front of my group too, constantly. Im impressed that the boat passes are only $10 but youre not seeing that much especially on the West Side of Manhattan. Due to the fact it was cloudy and raining, the lighting is so dim on the boat. The overall boat trip was about 40 min. My group got our food towards the end of the trip and I even forgot to mention to the waiter that they were crumbs on the table before I sat down. Ive been so many different restaurants and places and I can honestly say that I received better service at Olive Garden and Red Lobster. The waiters and servers were nice which is why Im giving it 2 stars.
Had a very nice experience. Perfect weather on a Sunday evening. I ordered the double trouble lobster roll. It was fresh, flavorful with big chunks of lobster. The roll was toasted perfectly and the fries were tasty. I cant remember the name of the drink I ordered but it was just ok. Good service and of course great views. Everything was priced as expected.Tips$10 to board the boat. Buy online or when you arrive at the pier.Sailings are first come, first served. With social distancing in place, capacity is limited.Absolutely no cash. Credit or debit only.
Love this! One of Manhattans best kept secrets! $10 to get on board and then you have access to cruise all day with a full bar and raw bar (not included in admission). But the food is really good (spring for the lobster rolls and mac and cheese bites). If you want to show your friends and family from out of town a good time but also avoid the traditional tourist traps, then bring them here.
A huge thank you to Rita, Manuel, and especially Justin. Thank you all so much! My Family and I had the best time and I appreciate everything theyve done. It was an amazing experience!!! The view was incredible and the food was beyond belief, it was so flavourful and delicious. I definitely recommend the Lobster Dinner. 🦞 These people are truly exceptional and 100% deserve the 5 stars, I wish it could give them 10!
I was sadly disappointed by the way the manager handled my group today. This was my second time here and I will no longer be returning or recommending this establishment to friends and family which I had previously done. Don’t believe them when they say “day pass” the managers are nasty and will kick you out after one hour of siting on the boat and tell you must sit inside (with no view) for the remainder of the time or we can get off the boat- mind you we had already bought 300 dollars of food/drinks. I asked to see where it said this on the website and the manager was very nasty and said it was not online and it wasn’t his issue.
After slightly being disappointed on our last trip. We realized that we all have had a bad day at some point. We are delighted to come back and enjoy what we believe still to be the best lobster rolls in the city,Their double truffle lobster roll, yum yum yum.😜🤗😘Thanks again guys for keeping your costumers happy. We will be back again soon.
My partner and I came here for our anniversary. We had a great time food was good. But hurry up and eat cause there is a miscommunication amongst the staff about what the ride limit is. Some say 2 hours others say one ride. I get it. It’s Covid -19 and the amount of people to ride is limited but rules must be applied straight across the board! Everyone should have an hour ride limit. Not pick and choose who rides again. We were cooperative and asked permission to stay aboard so we can finish our bottle that the server forgot about till we brought it to the managers attention. While other tables around us just stayed. I asked the lady screening tickets if I got back in line will we able to ride again. She said no it’s a 2 hour limit. The tickets won’t screen again. But the manager on board said we had to get off. Like I said miscommunication. Website says ride all day.
Make sure you arrive two hours early during peak busy times. I drove from Long Island and arrived at 6:15pm (45 min before departure on Labor Day Weekend) for a 7pm cruise. The line was already packed and they said the next cruise would not be until 9pm. In light of Covid, North River needs to make adjustments and offer a certain amount of people per time block or else everyone can show up for just one of the cruise times. Cool thing to do once but I like to arrive and not waste my entire night because of uncertainty with how many guests are showing up
The lobster rolls we ordered were mediocre (the bun was toasted but the lobster inside was cold). The whole wait in the line to see if you can make it to the next boat or the one in two hours concept is weird given that the number of seats on the boat is for sure known in advance. They also dont do a good job wiping the tables - we were seated at the table with some liquid spilled on it, which I noticed after having dipped my phone in it. The server didnt seem to care much and simply forgot to bring a napkin upon my first request. There was trash under the seats left by the previous passengers, but the staff didnt seem to be bothered about that either
Had a great time on boat. Went with wife, daughter and grandson. Food was great. Fresh with lots of options . Drinks were strong but expensive. They even gave out free vodka shots. Only complaint would be the shortage of servers and finding out on boat its NO CASH PAYMENT. Will return. ☺
Awesome way to spend a couple hours in NYC in the summer. $10 gets you as many rides on the boat as you want that day/night, with each ride lasting a little under an hour and providing some great views.Found the drink prices reasonable given the circumstances, particularly if you are a larger group and can order buckets of beer and/or fishbowl cocktails. The food is definitely overpriced, which isnt surprising given the environment, but what we had was pretty good. My suggestion would be to eat elsewhere before/after and just stick to drinks and appetizers on the boat. But I cant recommend this enough, particularly for first-time tourists!
I rarely give 5 stars and the reason i am giving it to this place, its because of the waiter, shout out to Daniel, he was so accommodating, so nice, always willing to help and get whatever we wanted, including helping us taking pictures. I went there yesterday with my co-workers, it was not crowded, they are respectful of the social distancing. The classic lobster roll was very good and refreshing, the deep fried lobster mac & cheese was good too, the truffle fries with parmesan were delicious, o didnt really like the watermelon mule, it didnt taste like watermelon at all, but i really liked the Frozé. Overall it was a great experience!
This boat is a good time if you want to get out on the water in good weather. The food is mediocre, seafood is good but a little pricey. The good part about it is that you dont lay admission, so eating and drinking is pay as you while you cruise around. You can easily board this boat and control the amount of money you are spending.
I visited the website & called to get all the Information about the boat.. the girl on the phone failed to inform me that you need a reservation (even though the website clearly states no reservations needed. 2 hour time limit) my whole family arrived and was not able to go on the boat because we don’t have a reservation and even if people don’t show, they don’t allow you on the boat. Our entire day was ruined. Try hiring a competent staff that actually cares about your business.
My new favorite summer spot. Get here early to get a seat on the upper deck. Views are awesome and theres a decent amount of space on the boat. The tables cant be moved to accommodate larger parties and service is only at the bar for food and drinks which are my only 2 gripes. Other than that prices arent too bad and theres a decent selection of food. I had the lobster roll and the shrimp basket and it was great.
Ive been going for 4 years and the food has always been excellent, the service has been fair, but unfortunately the pricing has increased drastically. If you plan on staying for the sail, they will charge you $10 per person (no matter how much or how little you consume) - I definitely disagree with this policy, as you are penalizing paying customers for those that go here for the free ride. If you want to get a good seat on the top deck, plan on arriving ~30 minutes prior to sailing time. Will definitely go back for the food, but not sure if the 45 minute sail is worth $10.
So this clears up that the incompetency comesFrom the superiors. the staff said you need to have tickets the night before to get on the boat. Thats a reservation if you ask me!!!! Your website and staff are very misleading. Tell people you needTickets in advance, not no reservations needed firstCome, first serve implies you do not need anything in advance. We’re very sorry for the confusion. The website and our guest services manager were both correct in explaining that we do not accept reservations. The Lobster Boat has always been first come, first serve which means on busy days like today and yesterday there’s usually a line to get on board. This is especially true now in the COVID world where we are operating at less than 50% of capacity to ensure the safety of our passengers and staff.
I wouldnt say this place is amazing but for what it is it is great. We walked right in the boat at 11:40 and there has to be 20 people from the boat to the top level telling you where to go how to order and they are very attentive. We went right up to the top deck which had no seats left (this was expected, we should have been there earlier) and went to the second deck which had the raw bar.The two gentleman serving the raw food were pleasant and happy to help with any questions asked, the bartender was quite rude to my girlfriend but the manager (could be owner) made up for that 10 fold. She couldnt have been any nicer and made the experience worth while.Definitely check it out!
I would have definitely given a higher rating because the food was delicious. What was problematic was that they had too many sections of the boat reserved for private parties which made seating a nightmare. Some people even had to get off the boat because there was no seating. Once my party got a seat they told us that there was going to be a private event in our section when we returned to dock so we would have to get up. the on-line advertisement says you can stay on as long as you like however they fail to tell you that at times more than half of the boat has reserved areas. 😢
This operation is a pure tourist attraction. The boat trip is a total waste. Nothing more or less. The food prices are OK, not overly expensive, but the boat trip I could have done without. Either you take the trip or the food. It took me longer time to finish my food than riding this trip. It also occurred to me that they were severally understaffed. The service was very slow. It took a long time to get the food and even longer to get the check. If you want to eat lobster, go to a lobster restaurant. If you want a boat trip, take the Circle Line. At least then you wouldnt feel that the trip was cut short.
All the previous reviews are old and are not up to date with their new $10 boarding fee. Its a $10 to board per person and it doesnt covers a drink. I think $10 per person is excessive and down right greedy. I think a $2 boarding fee per person is fair because that should covers some fuel charge and it also allows the patrons more pocket money to spend on foods and drinks. With $2 a person, by the end of the night it should generated enough to covers the fuel surcharge. It used to be free. So my party of 7 would have to pay $70 boarding fee and then more for the foods. I have to rethink and 1000% not going to take this Lobster cruise and definitely wont recommend anyone. I have overlooked the blandness of their lobster rolls and mediocre service in the past because of the free sail on the Hudson. Now that I will have to pay more for less, this deserves a NO Thank YOU.. Too bad though.
The boat was overcrowded since guest are allowed to stay onboard multiple rides. At least half of the seats were reserved so it was very difficult to find a spot. Even for 2 persons. We had to share this spot with 2 unknown persons. We couldnt order when wed like to, we had to wait for a specific person to come by, which took a long time. The food was good, but expensive. When we got off, our Pepsi had to be done before leaving their property. Which was told by gestures... This ride is nothing like it seems on YouTube.
The boat ride itself was awesome! However, everything is wildly overpriced. We ordered the 64 oz frosé pitcher because it is $55 and a 12 oz drink is $15, therefore it seems to be a better deal because it should pour 5 and a half drinks. However the pitcher was 75% ice, and only came out to pour not even 3 drinks. When we said something to the waiter he just shrugged and said “yeah that’s how it is”. Completely a waste of money for watered down wine. I would not recommend this to friends as this ended up being the most expensive drink (and not even tasty) I’ve ever purchased. Disappointed to say the least.
My sister and I enjoyed ourselves and I was reduced to a little kid waving at the boats and jet skiers. we boarded on Sunday 9/6/15 around 12:00 and went to the outside seating, ordered food and drinks and wound up staying 7 hours!! I was a relaxing time in the sun. The boat is free and you can stay as long as you like. Get there early though because it fills up quick. I loved the sail and the wind in my hair and the sights from the boat are beautiful! Great place for a girls/boys day outing. Would definitely go back!
This is a great experience and a perfect place to bring friends from out of town. The food is just ok in my opinion and the drinks as well are what to be expected from a boat bar, though depending on who you get can be pretty strong!Sangria pitcher is $40 and goes a pretty long way. The views are great and picturesque. Cant beat a free boat ride!
I went here this week around 6-7 PM and trust me you do not want to go there when its around that time. It gets crowded really fast! Me and my boyfriend had such a hard time finding seats since no one wanted to get off the boat and hogged the seats (and they didnt even purchase anything!) Thank God we were lucky enough to grab a seat on the first deck! The wait for food was about 15-25 minutes but it was worth the hectic experience when the boat finally started moving and we got to enjoy the beautiful romantic view of the city.
Overcrowded and you’ll have a very hard time finding a seat outside on one of the decks, especially if there are more than two of you. Boat only leaves a few feet for about 15 minutes on the hours, so you end up spending most of your time on the dock. Service is overworked and you’ll need to order from the bar yourself. Food is decent though.
I liked it better before they also charged for the ride. Back then, you could get a free boat ride, a WHOLE piece of fried fish, and less tourist trap-y items on the menu like a delicious fish taco (which is now no more)Now, youre charged for the ride and the prices have jumped even higher. Their fish and chips is just fishmeal nuggets, really. I think the place got a management change. Either that or they just decided to raise the prices. But even if the fuel is more expensive, that doesnt quite justify it.I am sad to say I used to be so hyped to come with friends. Now Ill just wait for trips to Boston for good lobster and seafood.
Had a great time! It was a last minute idea and I was able to buy tickets online for $5. Got onboard for the 4 p.m. departure. We ordered food and the food/ service was fast and great. Not exactly sure how long we were out on the river. . . My friend and I were trying to decide what to do when we docked and it took off again, so we did the cruise twice. The 6p.m. departure was more crowded but not overly so. They did not try to rush us off and the waiters and who I assume was the boss came over to talk to us. The weather was perfect!! Will defintely do this again!
The North River Lobster Company was a nice experience , the boat ride , my family from North Carolina already had the reservation not only was it mothers day it was my neice 21st birthday the North River Lobster Company didnt disappoint thank you , we had a great time.
Love the experience even if the food and drinks are overpriced. Sails up the Hudson every 90 minutes which is worth the $10 price of admission ($25 for a season pass). The key to seating is boarding right as the previous voyage returns. 3rd level back deck is our favorite spot and their specialty drinks (with or without alcohol) are delicious....
I have been wanting to try this for ages and was so excited about it. Sadly, it wasnt what I expected it to be. Service was Ok until the boat broke down in the middle of the Hudson. we We floated in circles for 45 mins. After we circled around, a tug boat had to bring us back to the dock. I felt embarrassed for the company. I went to use the bathroom and overheard the staff laughing about it and saying how often this happens. No idea why there is a $10 fee. Doubt the fee is going to ship maintenance.
Very poor service. We checked the website before taking our family to the boat. Within the FAQ section it is stated, We welcome customers of all ages and we have a kids menu available too. There were no high chairs, and no kids menu. When I asked the bar tender he said there has never been a kids menu. There were no menus on the tables and we had to go inside to request menus. This is not explained anywhere and not obvious. When I ordered drinks the bartender filled the cups until they ran over. After giving a $30 tip I had to walk the 5 overfilled cups down a flight of stairs on a rocking boat which led to them spilling all over my hands. It took a few trips but I got it done just in time to see the bartender walk down an order for the table next to me. I noticed he didnt overfill the cups he carried.
Loved everything about this! The concept is fun -- a restaurant on a boat that takes tours around the Hudson. So you get a meal, drinks and some sightseeing to boot. The boat is docked on the west side. If youre in Times Square, go west and keep walking until you see water, once there youll be close. We went right before their first tour of the day and didnt face a line. When we came back, we saw a line had formed while we were out to...river. The lobster roll was yummy and on the 2nd deck they have huge lobsters and oysters set out. Each level has a bar and you can get a bucket of beers to hang out in the sunshine. The food was a bit on the expensive side, but I include the experience in that fee as well. All the servers and staff were super friendly and really made the whole time enjoyable.
Go for the boat ride, get a soda. Do not get food, its all overpriced and or poof quality. Lobster roll had Frozen and possibly part imitation meat. Lobster bisque is probably from Costco, was decent however. Chicken sandwich was average. Drinks are seriously over priced. Heck it all is.
There is zero service! We never got our food. Zero apology from the waitress! The time sailing on the hudson was so short and frankly it wasn’t something I’d do ever again! We didn’t even have to pay the $10 for our tickets because the boat was broken and didn’t take off in time! Literally everything that could go wrong would! Who ever manages this experience should be fired!!!! It could be so wonderful, but all aspect of this went sour for me!
Fare is only $10 too get on the boat. You can stay on as long as you want or until close, also available on board is a full menu restaurant (bar type food) or seafood raw bar. Food was delicious but a bit pricey. Got the Grays papaya hot dogs and parmesan truffle fries, a must try.
A free boat ride on the Hudson River while dining is a fun experience. It gets really busy so I recommend ordering as soon as you get on the boat. Try the lobster tacos and some oysters. Theres no limit to how long you can stay on the boat. Plan to stay for multiple rides.
This boat is a waste of money we went out on the July 4th firework cruise and the food was nasty the lobsters were raw and mushy and the chicken was bland and tuff in addition our boat had one of the worst views and after being informed by the owner that the fireworks had not started the view was not any better when the fireworks did start please save your money and go on another dinner cruise or boat all together this boat is very unsatisfaying
Service is suuuuper slow to take orders and bring food (kitchen gets very backed up on busier nights) but the views are incredible and the lobster is quite good. Order your $10 ticket online in advance, show it at the Pier 81 for a wristband, line up at the red ropes to board, and head to the top deck to try to snag a table or standing room. Your ticket gets you all day access so you can stay on as many rides as you like - rides last 45 min, then return to the dock to let people off and board new folks for 30 min. There’s also an on-shore bar at Pier 81 that’s great for pre/post lobster ride.
I have really loved this in past summers, but im with everyone else on the new $10 sail fee, especially because that does not guarantee you a spot on the boat. ive had a lot of fun, but it IS crowded (with very limited seating) and the food/drinks ARE overpriced. i have easily overlooked these things in the past, but the new charge has pushed this over the line. farewell and good luck, north river lobster company.
Service was not great at all. My very first time on the boat. Was with a party of 18 people. They could not accommodate us. Told us it was first come first serve yet another large party of white people & the staff moved folks so the party could sit where they wanted. Its ashame folks still get caught up in the color of your skin. I will NEVER get on this boat again. The service & treatment was horrible!!
I looked up all the info online before I went. wait times. Does it take credit. No waitress you just order and ect. Made our time awesome. Only thing I missed was that the boat docks for nearly an hour. But overall this is a must. I think everybody complaining on here drinks their milk with their pinkies up. I personly will go on this boat just to get a drink once a week just to be on the water.
Ambiance:- The best part of the place is that youre on a boat, and it sails up river. Its about a 45 min ride. Theres at least 3 departure times - 7, 9ish and 11ish. The top deck grants you some nice views. You can stay as long as you want.Food:- Lobster Roll - It was okay, a bit dry and could have used some more mayo. The bread was lightly toasted, but not buttered. Also, you only get half a roll, which is pretty pricey - basically twice the price of a usual lobster roll.Service:- Very slow - you place your order take a number, and eventually someone brings your order to you. Unfortunately it takes a while, up to 40 minutes to get your order, and there were a couple of instances where they had to retake the order because it was forgotten somehow.- The ground floor had to ac/ventilation the day I went, not sure if it was broken or just happened to not have it.
We had a company outing on this boat last week and it was a great time! We met at 4:30 and ordered pitchers of Watermelon Margaritas ($40) and Buckets of Beer ($30 for 6) and the boat took off on a sail for 45 min. When we returned, we continued on the boat and enjoyed a great meal, (order from the bar and theyll deliver it to you, casual in baskets, paper plates, etc...). The menu had everything from burgers to lobsters ($35), lobster rolls ($25) truffle french fries to a raw bar, and fairly priced. Appetizers were calamari, wings, peel and eat shrimp.... We had a feast and then the boat took off again for another 45 min. cruise. It heads uptown, from 41st St. up the West side to about 90th St (past the Trump skyline). It was really enjoyable. Some of us stayed for a third go on the cruise as the sunset. Id say that was the best of the 3 sails! There is no extra charge for the cruise and you can stay on it for as long as you wish. It sails 45 min, docks 45 min, sails 45, etc.... You just walk on like youre going to a restaurant, they make an announcement that theyre taking off and before you know it.. youre cruising! So consider that a bonus while drinking and eating! If you come while the boat is out sailing, you can sit at the cute outdoor bar, on the docks. For NYers who are looking for a little respite from the heat, this is a great time! And would be a fun date night or fun to bring guests! You can ride the boat as many times as you want and get off whenever youre ready!
The reviews for this place seem false, if you are looking for a boat ride on the water , then ok, but the food is horrible. Lobster not fresh, very poor quality meat and pricey, portions are reasonable but we barely ate any of the food because the lobster was practically inedible.
I had a nice time with my family on the boat, but the presentation of the food is horrible for the large amount of money they ask for. Either they need to lower the prices for the food, or serve on real platters. I hated eating from those paper trays. We spend over $300 and we were disappointed.
I was there on 7/2/2015 for the 3:00 sail. Arrived an half hour early to just take in the sites. The only thing I enjoyed is the sail up the Hudson River even that was to short. The prices was to high for the amount of food I received. I ordered the Shrimp Po Boy and Fried Calamari. The shrimps were to small and over cooked and it arrived to my table cooled. I had maybe 10 french fries on my plate. Lets not forget about the over cooked rubber calamari. SMH!! This is not what I expect and I will not recommend this place to any of my friends and family.. OVER RATED AND OVER PRICED, LOUSY FOOD!!!!!! I should have taken a ride on the circle line and had a hot dog and had more enjoyment for that !!!!!!!
First time on Sunday fathers day and never again! Our service was the worst we had an outside table but it was so hot after we order our food, we talked to our server and exchange table to one inside, he said our order will be taking to us inside, there was no problem in that 1 hour later of waiting, we called the manager they said our order was not placed and since we seat in a different table order have to be place as new!! CRAZY!! Our server was very attentive, he felt so bad for us that he recommend us to LEAVE the restaurant because it was not worth the wait and the price of the food!! I was so frustrated. I complaint to the supervised he told us he will only charge one food, and the he will talked to the kitchen to rush our order!! after that we waited 30 mins more :/ and our food was out because our nice server went inside himself and rush out our order. Food was not Fresh, lobster tasted weird and our lemonade was very watery!! Over-roll it was a mess, not coming back.
My friend recommended this place because I hadnt been before and she called in a New York experience. We had drinks, $33 for 5 bottles of beer and then I got a lobster roll for $25 I felt it was a little overpriced as I didnt feel full. The 3rd floor deck is the best, there was also a DJ playing! (he wasnt very good but we managed haha)
Went with a group and sat outdoor top level which was nice. had the burger and too rare- go with the lobster roll and get one of their drinks. my friends had those and seeemed happier. there is a promo code so make sure you don;t get overcharged and right now the ny metro paper up intil end of may is offering it- save 5 bucks . the ride was too short- ladies room not on top level- not crowded today but as the weather gets warm I am sure it will be

2022-07-02Good food and nice views. Cute dinner boat ride! We got lobster rolls and clam chowder soup and they were both tasty options. A little over priced but still reasonable. I enjoyed it and would definitely return.

2022-06-12I must of been on a different boat 😒 this was not fun!... at arrival we asked how long was the sail, we were told about a hour out then return.... we sailed out to the next pier and returned, total of 25 mins. Between that our food took forever, the food is not to die for. They are only killing it with the truffle fries. The portions are very inconsistent. The prices are way out of reach. Pictured are fries and a drink totalling $30. Friend ordered same fries same price and her basket was to the roof. Drinks were to fruity. The service varies on who you get, we used the next tables server 🤷🏽♀️ the music.. elevator music 🤦🏾♀️ At the end we waited longer for the check than the time we were out sailing.

2022-06-25Went on the lobster boat and the atmosphere was lovely! I had good company so I had a good time. The ride on the boat was great, loved the views. I ordered a overpriced lobster roll, ($29) not worth the price in all honesty, it comes with a bag of chips and a small pot of slaw. I dont know if I would go here again, but perhaps next time I’d try the taco boat.

2022-01-20The food here I will not forget. It’s more than amazing food, it’s an EXPERIENCE!I had no idea a place like this existed. This restaurant is on a boat and you get to sail the Hudson while eating delicious, fresh seafood. The staff are attentive making sure you need nothing. The food is fresh, seasoned to perfection and comes hot. It’s family friendly and has great service. For a seat on the highest roof deck be sure to arrive at least 45 mins before departure so you can be among the few first in line. When visiting nyc, you want a dinner experience or you have an occasion GO HERE!

2022-06-26I went to see what NR Lobster was all about. The only disappointment was the time allocated on the boatride. It should be at least 2 hrs. It was a pleasant ride, the staff was nice and the food was pretty good. You definitely get your moneys worth with the Lobster Roll. It was tasty and full of Lobster. The corn was very good...the Chicken wings were delicious! I know I came on for the Lobster and seafood but........the barbecue wings were very good! I plan on returning but I think i want the wings next time!😋 I would recommend this because really enjoyed myself.

2021-09-30My maid of honor took me on a Cruise with the North River Lobster company as a part of my bachelorette party. The staff was amazing , the seafood was delicious and the ambiance was heavenly. Great food for a great price.
