Northwest Family YMCA in other cities:
At first it was amazing, the facility is amazing and still is. The problem with this place is the staff at the front desk and especially the elderly staff. I am a guest who has been to the facility in Fayetteville and Wetzel Road and both had a warm family like feeling and this why I fell in love with the YMCA. But when I come to the facility on River Road and I experience the complete opposite as if I am an inconvenience and how dare I bother to even come in the building. I still love the YMCA but this place could use a course on hospitality.
Why I love this YMCA.Im greeted every morning with the kindest desk staff that know my name. The aquatic classes/ instructors are fabulous-I didnt realize it would make me feel like a kid again-The Lazy River too is great! The modified strength training classes are very doable while still being challenging. You will sweat.I go there on some dark snowy mornings and leaving so revitalized ( regardless of whats going on on the outside my insides feel fantastic) Ive made some great friends and feel better than ever- I just cant say enough about my experience here!Glad I stopped talking about I need to go visit the Y and just did it. Im all in!!!Thanks Deb Green - Margarit &Dixie you guys made all the difference in my experience as wonderful instructors and making new folks feel included from the start❤️❤️❤️
YMCA of CNY is a super valuable organization!! We LOVE our local Northwest Family Y! Fantastic people, facility, programs, equipment, classes, and our kids have a ton of fun at SACC before/after school. The emergency responder childcare program they are offering right now should be commended. Way to be such an amazing community resource YMCA!!!
A brand, new Y that contains some top of the line equipment. The staff is friendly and helpful. The activity pool is a hit with kids and families. The indoor track is a great option to treadmills and running outside in the CNY frigid air during the winter months. It is VERY crowded all of the time with the cramped locker rooms being difficult to navigate (especially with kids in tow) and the parking lot frequently overflowing down the road. This Y could easily have been built twice the size and still would probably be at capacity.
Very rude staff. Not at all helpful. The front desk is inept. Dont even bother calling them for help The facilities are ok at best. Dont bring children here unless you want them to learn some really fun new words in the locker room. The soccer area is a liability waiting to happen. Dont expect any kind of real customer service. The desk people are often away from the card swipe. You can just walk by they will only hassle the people trying to follow the rules. They do not care nor confront anyone acting like a fool either.
Good gym. Only a couple downfalls; weight section is extremely small and is usually crowded. Other problem is the building has a steel roof which means you will get 0 service. They do have wifi thats very fast when its actually working. Its very inconsistent. One week youll have it, the next week it will be down.
My wife and I used to live in the area, and used to be members at the YMCA. We are back in town visiting family and wanted to attend the YMCA with our family members that have currently active memberships and they dont allow day passes or guest privileges. This doesnt make sense to me as the YMCA claims to be a family oriented Christian organization.
We live in Fayetteville, 5 minutes from the Y there, but frequently drive past the East Area YMCA to visit the Baldwinsville Y. The parking is much better, there are more family changing rooms by the pool and the entire pool area is much better (and better managed) than Fayetteville. The kids love the lazy river and other features of the kid pool. And the warm water pool is huge and almost always open, compared to Fayettevilles, which is smaller and often closed. Its almost like the Y realized everything they did wrong with the Fayetteville location and corrected it when they built the Baldwinsville location. Only things missing from both - neither locations pool has a true deep end which means no diving board, no starting blocks or even jumping in off the edge. Having been on a YMCA swim team as a teen in another location where the pools had all of these things, its frustrating when the lifeguards say you cant even lean forward into the pool from *sitting* on the edge, to begin your lap swimming.
I get this might be hard for you to Comprehend but Humans require oxygen to survive how am I supposed to do anything when I cant breath with my mask on!?!? Mussles Require alot if oxygen when working out and when there not getting that oxygen you cant function also Florida and Texas doesnt do this and there Covid Numbers are down.
I put my account on hold back in March and they only allow you to have it on hold up to 3 months, and they did not make me aware that you couldnt extend the freeze on your account. So when I called the day before my account is supposed to go back into effect to freeze it again, I was told that I would be forced to resume the membership. I then decided to cancel my membership, however I was told that I have to let them know prior to the 25th of the previous month, and I will now be charged $45 dollars for a month of membership Im not even going to use. I wont even be charged until the 1st of the month, so its ridiculous for me to be forced to purchase an extra month of membership, especially when all I wanted to do was put the membership on hold for another three months.

2018-07-06You cant beat The Y for their great hours, multiple locations, and varied amenities! The main appeals of this facility were the clean and orderly weight room, pool, and multiple locations across the nation. The staff and other members are all friendly and polite as well, creating a wonderful atmosphere you dont always see at other athletic facilities. If this review helped you out, please help me by giving me a thumbs-up. It would be much-appreciated!

2018-06-22Northwest Family YMCA is a beautiful facility. Up to date equipment and friendly staff. I especially love the art department. My new obsession is pottery: wheel throwing and hand building. The instructions are knowledgeable and love what they do. What a great way to unwind after work. I have had so much fun. Look out! Everyone is getting a hand made pot this year for Christmas!

2017-11-24Excellent workout facilty for all ages and abilities. Enough machines for all to use with little waiting time. Very clean by staff and other users are courteous enough to clean or wipe down machines that they use. Hours and rates are reasonable. Access in and out to main road is fine. Parking lot is well lit at night and spacious.

2021-01-14I called on December 30th to cancel my membership. They didnt tell me that Id have to call prior to the 17th to not be charged. I was on a scholarship for 20 dollars and they charged me full price for January of 82 dollars. My dad died on December 22nd from covid19. These people robbed me at the worst moment of my life with zero compassion. Ive had several friends say they are pulling their donations from the Y to another organization because of ridiculous issues like mine. Shameful.

2016-11-25Beautiful place. Almost feels like youre walking into a hotel. Staff is very friendly. That being said, the only complaint I have is that the weight room should be bigger. It only has two squat racks (excluding the Smith Machine), and two flat bench racks. Its almost always crowded in this area, especially around 5pm – 8pm. It works, but it definitely could be improved.

2019-05-03Initially I took this facility and it’s staff to be professional warm knowledgeable and inviting. However after a few months it was found that some of the staff is incompetent with respect to knowing how to operate s simple camera for an ID pic or inputting payment information into my account history. Once again after completing the required docs to become a volunteer and the 6 references of personal friends where their lives are interrupted to take time out to complete the required reference doc here we are 3 mos later and I was never called after being told I passed all requirements and had been approved for volunteering.Yet when I visited the facility there is a slew of new volunteers none of which are of any other races but Caucasian. Our money is good enough but our different races are not to volunteer. I have since cancelled my family membership and will never frequent there again. Despicable disrespectful shameful..so much for COMMUNITY!!!!!!😢🤔😒🤮👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽

2019-04-11I absolutely love this YMCA! All brand new facilities. Latest gym equipment with fitness tracking via WiFi. They have three pools, including my daughters favorite, the water park with lazy river. Small turf field for soccer and multiple basketball courts. Have a raised track on second level. Really love this YMCA, but dont come here as I want to keep it a secret.
