NR in other cities:
Walked in on a Friday night around 9pm and were able to get a table outside (sad we couldn’t sit inside) but the vibe seemed really cool and bathroom was spacious and clean.Service was good and efficient. Our server checked up on us the right amount of times and food came out quickly even how busy it was.Food was great and drinks were decent. Our table got the Kyoto Ramen and the Uni ramen and we loved it!!! Broth was amazing and the dry noodles were perfectly flavored. Also extra points for how fresh the Uni tasted. For apps we got the fried chicken, mussels, Devil eggs and the eggplant. I wanted to like the eggplants but I thought it was okay and maybe a little too sweet. The Devil eggs were delicious but You may not like it if you don’t like Dijon mustard because it was a bit strong for a couple of us. Fried chicken was so yummy and had this matcha dip so highly recommend! The mussels were fine but the cotton candy melting was a cute touch.Overall, I would come again to try other dishes and other drinks. Also, would come again for the dry noodle dish because it was that good!
This is a cool place. Inside decor is similar to a speakeasy, I’m sure the cocktails are good but we were not drinking that day. The oysters are fantastic, the ramen was just okay, it would be more similar to that from south of Japan. It was very light in flavour. Overall a solid experience.
After looking for a late night dinner spot, a few friends and I decided to give NR a try. The reviews looked good and ramen always hits the spot. Upon arriving at NR, we were greeted by the host and walked through a very nice and low light restaurant that had a very nice cozy vibe. The Food: I went with the Kyoto Ramen with a little spice, Pork Bun, Cotton Candy Mussels, and a Mixed Plate as appetizers to share with the group. The Kyoto ramen was delicious. The broth was flavorful and rich, the chashu was very tender and easily able to split apart, and the ramen itself was well cooked. The appetizers are a must try as well. The pork bun was good, nothing special to note. The Cotton Candy Mussels were new to me as Ive never had cotton candy on my mussels before. However, the pour some hot broth of sorts to melt the cotton candy and it actually paired very well together. The Mixed Plate was huge, with different assortments of other appetizers as well. It came with a egg salad sandwich, chicken karaage and a side salad. The Service: The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. The ambience was very nice. The lights were dim and the candle in the middle definitely had a nice and cozy vibe to the place.Overall, very cool spot to try if youre in the area. Id recommend.
My favorite spot for a cocktail in NYC. The cocktails they make are unlike any I’ve ever had before. The Earl Gray is a must try. Absolutely no complaints- cozy but classy atmosphere, delicious food. PLUS gluten free noodles available!!!! You will not regret coming here. Highly suggest reserving 2 weeks ahead. Thank you NR!!!
Cocktails are great, food (ramen) was ok, prices were average for Manhattan cocktail bars, service took a while, seems they were understaffed.Liked the milk washed tomato based cocktail (the clarified one), thought it was excellent, well balanced and intense flavours.Ramen was ok, in comparison to the drinks the taste wasnt quite intense enough, though nothing was bad.
The appetizers and drinks were really good. The ramen was alright I have had better ones. I honestly wished they had more items on the menu. As we got done with our food we were craving desserts and they didin’t have anything and that was a huge turn down. The place looks very nice so we wanted to take a picture by the bar and one bartender was so rude and he said we were on his way when we were standing by the benches. The other bartender refused to take a picture of us because the flash was on and he said the flash disturbs people when we couldn’t really see anyone. The place was empty. I would definitely go back to have a drink by the bar but im not sure if i would go back for the food and the rest of the experience
If you have been to R, O, K, C, then perhaps you know that this place was setup by the same lads that created ROKC on 3452 Broadway, who were also x-members of Angel Share.I came here for the first time on Christmas Eve 2021 - Omicron Era, and was pleasantly surprised at the Salon Vibes this place gave off. Theres a nice antique play on Americana and Japanese themes mixed in the layout with lots of seating options. Even for the night I was here, it was crowded.I had their classic old Negroni, Smokey Last Word, Hanky Panky, and The Olympic. All unique and tasteful in their own way. Like ROKC, the food menu is amazing. I tried their curry (no spice) and thought it was pleasant and tasty. If you have had Japanese curry you will know that it is not like curry dishes from India or Trinidad and Tobago and thats a good thing. Its accurate here; it reminded of the now closed Goemen Curry. The vibes and staff here is very chill and we ended up staying till closed. Shots here liberal here so dont forget to drink lots of water. 😂
Skip the drinks, pig out on the food. All of the food here is either a staple (oysters) or very unique. My absolute favorite is the fish roe and sea urchin ramen!!The only con about the experience is that while the drinks are very theatrical, they tend to be very small, sometimes bland, and very weak in terms of alcohol content. Regrettably, I have to say that although the drinks are presented well, they can be overpriced. The best for me was the truffle cocktail. The food definitely carries the experience though! I recommend the uni ramen, summer cold, karaage, and truffle egg sandwich! Yum!
Great little hole in the wall with delicious food and cocktails! We were wandering around NYC, looking for a place to eat near Central Park when we stumbled upon this gem. It was a little out of the way from our intended path but totally worth it! They only had a couple of options, which I actually appreciate since but menus can be overwhelming. I will say the highlight was the cocktail. I’m a huge fan of gin, honey, and chamomile, so I was absolutely in love with the drink. They were quite accommodating with the seating even though they have a time limit of an hour and a half, we were able to choose table or bar, and actually switched from one to the other without issue. The host checked our vaccination cards prior to entering the restaurant, and the tables were separated by clear dividers so it felt pretty safe and clean.
Honestly, hands down one of the best Ramen Restaurants in NYC, very cheeky, glamorous, feels like dinning back during the 50’s with a touch of modern glamour and delicious cocktails. The staff was very on point, impressive, fabulous and I couldn’t be anymore impressed. Also, please don’t forget to try the Spicy Fried Chicken Bun and (It’s not spicy at all) juicy and saucy, honestly just the perfect bite before taking a swim in their Sapporo Ramen or their Chicken & Vegetable Curry Soup which was hands down (my new favorite) dish. I am sorry, but i forgot to take photos of the food as I was just starving and couldn’t resist.
Good drinks. Amazing service. Hit/miss food.I had the chicken miso ramen and it was pretty bad. The broth was missing that rich chicken flavor and instead had this weird creamy taste. The karaage and the deviled eggs were pretty good. The pork buns were soaked in mayo and pretty gross. The service was great. At the end of our meal, the server gave us free shots of drinks of our choice! I just wish their food was better.
Go to eat here! The oysters are awesome, especially as HH pricing. The appetizers are each delightful and sooo good. Karaage Chicken (breaded fried and juicy chicken with matcha on the side) I could eat allll day. Try those deviled eggs, too! Well be back!!Went back and still awesome! Cocktails are awesome.
Vibe: Swanky, energetic, classy with a rustic sensation. Draws a hip but eclectic crowd.Value: The ingenuity of the cocktails is well worth the trip and the cost.Yuzu+Sansho - Can taste the difference of using fresh yuzu. Drink let the natural flavors of the yuzu shine and didn’t over sweeten it like most places. Flavor carried through to the shiso and the orange blossom brought it together at the end.Bee+Chamomile - Ingredients brought out the best in each other. Smooth, consistent flavor from start to finish and it sat on the palate well w/ the chamomile maintaining the spotlight. Strong rear nose florals.Transparent Tomato - Showed off how much umami can be found in a tomato and doing it in a cocktail that’s not a Bloody Mary is bloody impressive.Miso Glazed Eggplant - Great textural contrast w the pomegranate. Eggplant itself was cooked really well. Dill brightened up the richness and heaviness of the burnt miso.Kyoto Ramen - Rather standard. Broth was expectedly lighter being chicken and fish based.*As always, remember everyone has off days, check your bias, and consider other palates.
I love when restaurants take pride in the food they offer. Everything from the beautifully steamed edamame to the elaborate cocktails was top notch. I had the veggie ramen which was really flavorful and delicious. Service was really awesome. Plastic containers for hot sauce is my only call out, maybe also have more veggie items for appetizers as edamame was the only option. Will come back any day!
We had an amazing dinnerService is terrificWe had dinner at the Bar since we didn’t have a reservationThe staff are super friendlyFood is sooooo goodThe eggplant for starters is NOT TO BE MISSESCarpaccio was super fresh and tastyChicken + Vegetables Soup Curry is so Yummy - the portions are big I recommend sharingOysters were yummy and fresh too
Sheeeeesh NR is rly that b**ch, no kizzy.Thank you to my absolutely wonderful server for recommending an easy-to-drink drink that I love. Drinking the cocktail with the yuzu was a beautiful experience. It came with a beautiful origami thing on the side! It’s citrusy with a touch of floral with one big ice cube in the glass. Perfumey? It’s hard to describe the vibe but it’s a vibe. The ramen was the exact same experience. The pork chatsu was the most tender rib meat tasting thing to ever bless my body. The broth was incredible; I literally couldn’t stop drinking it! Definitely an incredibly special broth.Four tables outside, two with two chairs, two with four.
Food 9/10Came here for drinks after a meal, was really please with every cocktail we ordered. Layered and complex drinks, and my friend ordered some ramen, which he really enjoyed as well. The fried chicken was solid too, but we mostly came for the drinks and they did not disappoint. If you’re around the area, definitely check this place out!Atmosphere 9/10Dim and vibey lights, perfect for a chill bar/lounge area.Service 9/10Everything came out at a reasonable time.
Highly reccomend this restaurant! The staff was absolutely fantastic, and the food and drinks were amazing! I came back from living aboard in Hokkaido and I have missed having soup curry. Really was my comfort food when I live there, and not really a common dish outside of Hokkaido. So knowing they had soup curry on the menu, I made this restaurant a must visit on my trip to NYC. This soup curry was PERFECT! If you have never tried this dish I highly recommend it!
Outstanding cocktails, the best Ive had in Manhattan. Each one also comes in such cute unique glassware!! The vegetable ramen and seafood curry were also incredible. Loved the chill vibes and decor, and service was great. Overall a great experience. Cant wait to go back!
Happy hour weekday before 7pm- $1.5 oyster fresh, sweet and buttery. We ate before, but still couldn’t resist to order more food. Truffle Egg sandwich and fried chicken with matcha salt dip was such a fulfillment from the Mix Plate. Wish we have more stomach for sea urchin fish roe ramen, save it for the next visit. Drinks are beautifully crafted with originality and aesthetics. We loved seating at the bar and watching bartender shake on the drinks. This visit make me feel like nyc night life is back again. Spacious well designed interiors with good flow. It was lively yet not overcrowded. NR gives me a reason to come to UES more often now.
Great cocktail menu with fun drinks and apps.Very small food menu though, so its more of a drink place with food than a full restaurant. That being said, my group shared several apps and the soupless ramen and vegetable ramen and every thing was excellent. Very impressed with the veggie broth, it tasted homemade with veggie stock and not just hot water and salt like a lot of veggie broths end up being.
Food: 5Value: 5Service: 5Atmosphere: 5Notes: I never thought I’d eat an egg salad sandwich at a restaurant, or ever. NR changed my mind about an entire dish which is impressive! The ramen is delicious. It isn’t anything life changing, but it measures up. $16 a bowl isn’t bad either for a more upscale restaurant. A server lit a drink on fire and squeezed a lime on it. I’d come back here!
Food, drinks, and vibes, all are great but would be even better if NR doesn’t have such a strict timing for each table. I don’t object to keep ordering food/drinks while I am here but 1.5hr could be quite rushed for friends and couples who were trying to enjoy a nice evening out. 2hrs might be more reasonable.
Although they have gluten-free noodles, they cannot guarantee that the broth for the noodles is gluten-free (at least that was the case when I was there in November 2021). Im just providing this information for others with Celiac disease who may be reading these reviews, so you dont end up hungry like I was! That said, my dining companions enjoyed their ramen, and I enjoyed some delicious cocktails. But I would only go back for drinks, not dinner.
Decent experience but not that special. Cotton candy mussels sound cool but taste exactly the same as the usual mussel dish. Uni ramen is fresh.Update: their summer ramen cold noodle is really good. The dish is well presented, the broth is refreshing and well seasoned, the eel is good too. And as usual the uni in uni ramen is fresh - this consistency is more than what you can ask for even at fancy sushi restaurants in new york. I also enjoy their drinks a lot - not too heavy with fun heavy thats very clear and distinct, not random syrups added to way too much alcohol
DO NOT MAKE A RESERVATION HERE! Be careful. Made a last minute (less than 2 hours) reservation for 4 people. Unfortunately one of the attendees tested positive for Covid and we had to cancel as 3 of them are from 1 household. Later that day I received an email from the restaurant saying I was charged $80 for a late cancellation. Immediately called for explanation. The hostess refused to refund the money, was rude, unprofessional and hung up! She explained that for free cancellation it had to be done 2 before! .( the reservation was at 7:30pm for dinner at 8:45pm same day). So unless you have an ability to travel back in time DO NOT MAKE A RESERVATION HERE!
Probably one of the best spots in NYC. Great atmosphere with a speakeasy-like vibe. Drinks are creative and delicious. Ramen is very good and the appetizers never disappoint. Highly recommend making reservations in advance as this place is often booked even on a weekday.
Such amazing Jap-inspired craft cocktails, in a beautiful vintage bar. Service was attentive and friendly, ramen’s very good too. This place opened not too long ago but already has many regulars who come for their cocktails and food. Behind that unpretentious door, you’re set to have a great time. Come before 7 pm for happy hour half priced oysters and clams!!
What I have to say isn’t nice. They have a sign attesting to welcoming people with handicaps. I use a walker and wish it weren’t so. I don’t like having a handicap. Can you believe I wasn’t allowed in when I came for oysters? This behavior is unacceptable .On a different day, The ramen Was pretty terrible: poor flavor.
I LOVE NR! The cocktails are an experience, each with its own unique presentation. The food is equally as amazing, Ive had dreams about their egg salad sandwich. To top it all off, the staff are SO FRIENDLY and make you never want to leave!I cant wait to dine indoors there again whenever Cuomo lets us! In the meantime, Ill brave the cold to outdoor dine there because IT IS WORTH IT.
Absolutely loved this hidden gem! We live just down the street, so we decided to give it a try.Cocktails - pricey but delicious! Ive never been in a restaurant or bar before where I wanted to try multiple drinks. I got the pisco sour (my personal favorite) and it did not disappoint.Karaage - we loved this. Crispy, flavorful fried chicken. Creative with the matcha salt.Kyoto ramen - oh my goodness! Literally the best ramen Ive ever had. They gave us some spicy chili oil to add to it and it was perfect. Delicate, flavorful broth. Perfectly cooked vegetables and pork. Chewy, fresh noodles. All in all, great spot, glad they opened, cant wait to go back!!
I think the service is excellent, the food was okay. It feels more like, a bar first, food second. There are izakayas around the city that have better food that costs less. The cocktails were good though (as you would expect considering Angels Share roots). Interesting place to try out, but not a place I would choose to be a regular at.If youre looking for a trendy place with good ambiance, and youre not mindful of foodvalue, then go here. If youre looking for a meal first and cocktails second, Id defer to a different joint.
NR is a great addition to the neighborhood, serving up meticulously crafted cocktails, a rotating selection of oysters, and ramen. I will say they seemed understaffed and things took a little too long to arrive, but the food and drinks were really excellent. They just opened - Id say its worth having some patience.
Delicious and creative cocktails, I especially enjoyed the Shiso/Daikon. Service was great, nice ambiance with light jazz in the background and stylish decor. Ramen was also very tasty (portions are a bit smaller than what you see at typical ramen joints), and happy hour runs until 7pm for half priced oysters.
Great little spot, hidden between the residential high-rises of the Upper East Side. Super low-light, but greatly old-fashionably decorated. Cocktails are creative, fun, and quite potent! Not an incredible amount of seats, but I think the size is fitting of its decor.Food-wise, the appetizers and ramen were quite phenomenal in taste, but the ramen portions can be just slightly larger, but I was quite full with 1 app + 1 ramen. I had the Kyoto, quite a standard ramen recipe, but was well packed in flavor and taste.Great addition to the UES.
This might just be my new fav spot in the city! The food and drinks were both mind blowing.Ok so I had the Truffle drink paired with a cheese and I was so shocked about how amazing it was. Took me aback. Never tasted anything like it. Then I had Yuzu+Siason (not sure if I’m spelling it right) and that was such a delightful flavor. The Bee+Chamomile was delicious too. Then my last drink was the Nightcap, the presentation was so cool, drink is on fire while being poured, get ur cameras ready. I loved it allI also tried like half their appetizers lol. Favorite was the Truffle egg sandwich. I clearly love truffles lol. The pork and fried chicken buns were delectable and the fried chicken by itself was great. I tried the mussels+beer+cotton candy bc it sounded interesting but the cotton candy just melts into the broth and u can’t taste it. The mussels were still good tho.I sat at the bar as I didn’t have a reservation and that was a fun time. Will be coming back a bunch.
Found by chance, it was the best experience of my NY vacation.Staff is friendly and professional, the place has a relaxed but elegant vibe.We went in for some ramen, but couldnt resist trying a couple of their cocktails (exceptional) and a few oysters (good and totally worth the price). The ramen itself was delicious, rich in flavours but extremely well balanced (and not too salty!).I left almost ecstatic. Well done 👍
Best egg sandwich we’ve ever f&$:king had. Truffle is everywhere if you’re looking for it but not overpowering. The oysters were well-shucked and the accompanying vinaigrette was balanced and delicious. Then the ramen was in our top 5 for sure, even better than a few ramen places in Tokyo and Kyoto. We didn’t have drinks but we were sat at the bar and could watch the bartender at work. Some of the drinks were beyond creative, some with tiny origami cranes dangling off the side by a golden chain. We are most definitely coming back, and bringing all of friends. The staff are very nice, but also extremely competent. Overall a 10 star experience.
Edit: the past few times I’ve been I feel like they’ve been off their game a little bit with the cocktails.Original review: Sleeper! A nice date spot to slurp up some noodles and drink some cocktails, which are some of the best Ive had in the city. The curries and ramen are delicious. The inside vibe is low-lit and cozy. Service is overall good. A treasured neighborhood spot.
We love this spot and go regularly. But I changed a reservation recently and they charged me a no-show fee on the day of the original booking. I am trying and trying to get in touch but they don’t answer the phone. Very annoyed because it’s a large fee, charged in error. Watch out!
Was there for lunch and while all of their food is pretty good wish there was more of it. Felt more like a bar scene with the most amazing and original drinks menu. Tried a transparent tomato which was pretty good. The service was pretty nice, just wish the food wait would not be so long, especially that the menu is not that big.
One of the best cocktail bars (and ramen restaurants) on the Upper East Side. The drinks are made with impeccable detail. If you’re going for drinks, I recommend sitting at the bar. The bartender with the longer hair (sorry, I missed your name) is exceptional; he gave some great drink recommendations and hosted great conversation. I’ll definitely be back regularly!
Amazing drinks highly recommend the truffle cocktail and the green tea high ball. The appetizers were delicious! The oysters were so creamy and addictive we couldnt stop ordering them. Chicken curry spice lvl 5 packed a punch. the soupless sea urchin / salmon caviar entrée was such a superb dish. Heavenly taste to the mouth . The customer service was extraordinary especially Ray that man deserves an award on god 👏. I wish I could rate this place higher than 5 will most certainly be returning here for hopefully another fantastic experience
Ive already told multiple people about this place and we only ate there yesterday! Got a seat at the end of lunch and had a wonderful time at NR. Yet another place I wish would open in my neighborhood! Service is super friendly and on point. Our server knew the ins and outs of allergies and what I could have on the menu (sadly, almost nothing). Oyster HH was fantastic and the PEI oysters were so fresh we ordered another round. We loved all of the drinks we tried, and I only wish we could have tried more. I had the Smoky Pineapple and Ginger (LOVE the cardamom in this one) and my husband had Smoke and Asian Leaves. I very much had my eye on the frozen Lychee too. He loved his ramen and well be back when we can try the curries. They have GF noodles, but the ramen is sadly not able to be made GF. The only bad part? The number of options on the menu makes it nearly impossible to choose!
This place was beyond my expectations in terms of food, service and drinks. Came here for NYE 2021 (covid era) and sat outside. The ramen is 10+++ and the drinks were phenomenal. Wait staff is over the top amazing and I would highly recommended checking this one off the list.
Cocktails AND ramen? Yes, please. If youre someone who has a hard time making choices, you will find yourself staring way too long at the massive cocktail menu and wondering how many drinks you can safely order in one sitting without looking like an alcoholic. I had major Goldilocks syndrome: every drink on the menu is more seductive than the last. In the end, I had the Grapefruit (which was meh), the Smoke which was very interesting, and maybe the Boulevardier though now I cant remember because I was staring at so many of them for so long! The ramen menu, by contrast, is much more straightforward. You basically have 2 choices, and I went with the Kyoto. You know how they say alcohol makes everything taste better? I dont know if that was the case here, but I sure as hell enjoyed that bowl of ramen.Service was excellent. The waiter was patient with my indecision and helped me narrow down my choices considerably.
You almost feel like its a speakeasy when you walk into this place. First off the restaurant is almost hidden as you can easily walk by without knowing its even there. They only have a small sign on the door with their name. It gives off a very 1920s vibe. This is a great place for high end cocktails. You almost want to try every one of them because the presentation is so unique. When you sit at the bar, its like free entertainment-especially when they use fire! Also, can I mention the oven of the bathrooms in the basement? :) Perfect for the wintertime.NR is a great place to go if you want a casual or lavish date night. If you want good ramen and cocktails, go here.
Great service, drinks, food, and cleanliness. We ordered pork and spicy chicken buns, the Kyoto ramen and the sea urchin ramen (soupless); all of which was DELICIOUS. As for drinks, we ordered the mezcal and grapefruit cocktails which were very good. Definitely coming back.
Cocktails are creative and fun (perfect for a gno), the ramen and oysters (HH) were good as well. Other food (pork bun, karaage, scallops) were okay. The stars are for the service, mostly from the hostess[?]. We were seated 20 minutes late, which we understood as it was a weekend and tables can get pushed back. However, when we were eating, about 50min in, we were told we had 30 min left and our bill was brought to the table a few minutes later. We had just ordered another round of cocktails and received 2 apps we ordered. We notified the waiter that we had been seated late and the hostess came and basically said well okay it’s basically 30 min from now. So got our bill ~30 min before the 90 min allotted time with a table full of food and no apologies for the mistake. Needless to say the last half hour wasn’t a pleasant experience. We were done and out the door in less than 90 min total as we would have been without being rushed. Always quite rude to get your bill before asking, especially with so much time on the clock and food left on the table. For a cocktail bar charging cocktail bar prices, would have expected better service.
The best ramen and cocktails in the UES! The prices are very reasonable for the quality of food they serve. The menu is limited because everything on their menu is excellent! The cocktails are one of the best things about this place they are a work of art! Its a cool little bar resto with great atmosphere. We are lucky to have this gem of a restaurant in our block. The service is always amazing. The staff are all pleasant and efficient! We have been to this place more than 5 times and they have consistently delivered excellent service! Highly highly recommended! This place is worth every penny! You have got to try this place if you find yourself in the Upper East Side of NY!
Low-light cocktail bar with high-vibe atmosphere for adults.Enjoy delicately flavored ramens and great variety of cocktails creatively touched with Japanese ingredients.Highly recommend the bar counter seats for sophisticated but mischievous interior decorations and seasoned bartenders.
I almost don’t want to leave a review for this place, as I want it to stay a hidden gem. Just wow. Where do I begin? The drinks are some of the most creative, and tasteful cocktails I’ve had in all of NYC. I didn’t really get to try the food, but heard it was good. The drink menu is extensive, and they take their time to make your drink. Presentation is incredible as well. This is definitely my new favorite spot on the UES!
This place is a true definition of a hidden gem. I was a little apprehensive because NR had massive shoes to fill to make up for the loss of the seamstress. I was beyond pleasantly surprised its a super discreet entrance and a beautiful interior and makes it if you feel like you stepped into a 1940s Japanese speakeasy. the menu is small and precise with great deals on delicious and fresh oysters, not to mention a damn fine ramen. The real winner here is the cocktails, order a cocktail and you will be pleasantly surprised with the meticulous fine small details that goes into every single crafted cocktail. One of my new favorite spots on the UES.
No idea how long this place has been opened. Service wise was 0. The restaurant was half empty at 21:30 on a Wednesday, waited to be sat down, once at the table it took 8-10 minutes for someone to say hello and to set up the table, water took another 5 minutes and to refill I had to get up to the bar.I saw lots of people drinking awesome looking cocktails I ordered the Kyoto Ramen, they ran out of the vegetable ramen. Mind this, the waiter was nice but it seemed the restaurant is understaffed. I will go back because of the ramen and the ambience of the place but mainly because of the ramen. It was very light yet filling and the fish based broth was on point, the tenderness of the pork was outstanding. If service was 0, the ramen was 8.2. Hope to be back soon and to have a better experience service wise. Def interested in trying the Mussel + Beer + Cotton Candy Appetizer. Prices seemed fair.
NR — the second bar from Shigefumi Kabashima, owner of West Harlem’s popular ROKC — inspired by 19th century Japan, where cocktails come in unique, antique drinking vessels.NR doesnt seem too worried about letting its new neighbors know that it exists. The only notice outside is a small, cryptic NR Open sign on the dark wooden front door. There are marble and wooden tables, blue fringe lamps, paintings, raw brick, random wallpaper, and two long banquettes. The dining area is divided in half, so it seems more intimate than former SeamstressThere’s a cumin and dill mezcal-based drink that comes with yogurt, strawberry jam, and lemon, as well as a gin cocktail accompanied by a house-made pistachio cream, clementine, and Campari.NRs food menu is concise; includes vegetable ramen and pork buns, fried chicken and a very creative (should I say exotic) mussel dish! Mussel + Beer + Cotton Candy, which sounds ridiculous but really works, a warm beer-based broth poured over a dozen or so plump, tender mollusks, melting the sugary puff of candy on top, a yuzu zest providing a nice counterpoint to all the yeast and brine.Kaarage, or Japanese fried chicken, is impressively large, with four fat, juicy pieces falling out of their crisp-fried skins. The accompanying crock of matcha salt is a thoughtful touch. Two types of ramen round things off. Theres a Vegetable version with noodles, mushrooms, corn, seaweed and scallions, and the Kyoto, starring pork belly, egg, spicy bamboo shoots, and garlic and chili oils in a rich soy, chicken, and fish broth. We also tried an Egg Sandwich paired with a crock of clarified butter for dipping (so yummy!)It’s definitely a great addition to the area, a new neighborhood go-to, a place to catch up with friends over drinks, and, maybe especially, a date spot.Food –*KARAAGE: JAPANESE FRIED CHICKENS WITH MATCHA SALT*JAPANESE EGG TRUFFLE SANDWICH: JAPANESE EGG SANDWICH WITH TRUFFLE OIL, PARSLEY ANDWARM BUTTER ON THE SIDE*MUSSEL + BEER + COTTON CANDY: BEER STEAMED MUSSEL WITH SOY SAUCE, GARLIC, YUZU PEEL,BUTTER, RED PEPPER, COTTON CANDY*KYOTO: SOY SAUCE FLAVORED CHICKEN AND FISH BASED BROTH, TOPPED WITH PORK BELLY, GARLIC OIL,SOFT BOILED SEASONED EGG, SPICY BAMBOO SHOOT, SCALLIONWhat’s not to love! 😊
I came here 2/13/20 with my friend. Our bill came to $53.67. We split it and my total was $26.67. I left a $6 tip which is a little over 20% which brings my total to $32.67. I check my credit card statement a few days later only to see that the waitress tacked on an extra dollar and I was charged $33.67. Im not mad over $1, but its the principle. She stole from me after I tipped her more than fairly. They probably do this to customers all night hoping they wont notice or wont care. I called my credit card company to report this fraudulent charge. On my receipt is says the cashier was Joji Watanabe, but I dont know if that was my waitress.
A hipster japanese ramen bar on the yupper east side?!!!Sounds impossible. Maybe improbable. But somehow, there is a God.NR is THE BOMB. From their fantastically creative cocktails (delicious grapefruit margarita and visual sensation smoke) to yummy edibles (mussels with cotton candy sounds awful but tastes divine) and, of course, delectable ramen, ramen, ramen.Dont miss this easy to miss (theres only a speak easy type sign outside) new kid on the block. Its some kind of wonderful.

2021-12-28Food is nice, Pleasant service and Yes! Drinks are great. I think first of from the menu that cocktail here is a must and recommended. They have lots of options and you can ask any server for recommendations too. I’ve tried 4 drinks and they are all amazing even the one that I asked for “Good looking” drink and taste doesn’t get compromised. Portion is just fine, I will say moderate. They are tasty, harmonious and subtle. Not heavily topping and seasoned but well made. They all have such nice characters.Plan and book your visit is recommend. But 1 time I got there by myself and luckily seated by the bar.Lovely spot for Date night, Hang out with family, Dinner with friends before head to somewhere else because they have limit seat time, I think around 90min. But please confirm for sure.Enjoy!

2022-05-04This is a swanky and fun Japanese cocktail bar and restaurant. Perfect for a date night or casual drinks in the UES. Reservations recommended. They have a nice oyster happy hour until 7 PM most nights but you should definitely take advantage of. Cocktails or funky but a little kitschy (who needs a cocktail served in a bell pepper?!?), And still delicious. All the food I tried was wonderful. A stand out is the curry soup which is a light thin soup from the Sapporo region of Japan, that is served with a side of rice. You can opt for chicken, vegetables, or both chicken and vegetables. The flavor is complex delicious and comforting and you can choose your spice level from 0 to 5 if you’re a space love her you could do four or five I got the four and it was perfect. The chicken is fall off the bone delicious and all the vegetables are well cooked.

2022-01-01Feels worth it. Great to celebrate with someone special vibes. Reasonably priced for Manhattan. Dinner for 2 with drinks is 100$ but the quality of food trumps bill. Best Ramen Ive had around. Strongly recommend the dry noodles !!

2022-02-02This place is a phenomenal Japanese 🇯🇵 restaurant! NR has an absolutely delicious 🤤 selection of Japanese 🎌 dishes 🍽️! The ramen 🍜 is a MUST - specifically the Sapporo with chicken 🐔 and corn 🌽! The Mixed Plate is also fantastic and includes both the Fried Chicken 🍗 appetizer and Truffle Egg 🥚 Sandwich 🥪 appetizer! Making a reservation is recommended but they always accept walk-ins. Staff 👨🍳 is super professional and nice! The ambience 🎶 is fantastic and the decor is beautiful! I wish I came here more often!

2022-01-31Had such an awesome experience here. The waiters and hostess were very welcoming and helpful with the menu. I had the Pineapple and Passion Fruit cocktail which was incredible and presented so nicely. Then my boyfriend and I had the Kyoto ramen, one switched with chicken instead of pork. Overall, the vibe and food were totally worth it, and the price was very reasonable

2022-05-28This is worth a stop. Most notably for the bar service. Bartenders have upscale flair and the cocktails are PERFECT. If you’re into cocktails, the ingredients listed for the classic cocktails were correct and well balanced while simultaneously giving space for the original in house creations. The entrees were good. My wife got ramen and I got the chicken curry. Overall good but I wasn’t enthralled. What blew my mind was the pork and fried chicken buns as an appetizer. By far the best pork and/or chicken buns I’ve ever had. I wish I just got another order of these!Overall for the cocktails in particular, absolutely worth a date night stop.

2022-02-28We came here for dinner. The food was really good. I got the seat urchin dish and it was delicious. The cocktails were also great. Definitely recommend the Mexican firing squad. The service was so-so. We had to ask for some drinks multiple times, and they kept forgetting what we ordered for cocktails, and when we got a dozen oysters we only received 11. But overall would come again

2022-04-02The soupless ramen was very creamy and super unique. We really enjoyed the carpaccio & truffle egg sandwiches as well.It definitely was on the more expensive side and the service was slow. It took more than an hour for all of our food to come. The drinks are a show though! Would recommend getting one.

2022-06-21NR is a good place if youre having a ramen craving and want to get some great cocktails too. Came here for dinner with a friend, and we got two excellent cocktails (Our Negroni for me, Asian Mule for him), and shared a couple of the apps.We got the pork bun and the truffle egg sandwich for our starters, the latter on the recommendation of our server. Both were very flavorful and done well. The pork was melt-in-your-mouth tender, while the truffle dip for the egg sandwich was generous and gave it an intense, heady flavor. The ramens themselves were done well, although wouldnt say its the best in town. I got the Sapporo chicken broth, which was very filling with loads of corn and broth. Slightly disappointed there wasnt more meat there, since I only got a medium-sized sliver of chicken, but I finished the bowl clean anyway.
