Im sure this is great if youre buying a new bike, but I needed a part--which they did not have. The employee was confused about what I wanted (a 1 quill stem), and then the guy behind the counter muttered that he only had a 1 1/8. No, sorry we cant help just a curt dismissal. Not impressed.
Visiting NYC Bicycle Shop is an enjoyable experience not only of business transaction but also of benefit transformation. As a case in point, once I brought my bike to fix a flat tire. Then, the owner and a mechanic named Carlos introduced an internal glue(only costs $10, incl. labor) that can prevent tires from becoming flat permanently. In so doing, though they themselves would lose business of fixing tires in the future, customers have benefited tremendously and developed hardly-earned trust toward this specific bike shop. Their professional knowledge/skills and ethics have made me feel safe to ride my bike everyday(rain or snow), and also purchased several new bikes for my family.
Would not recommend. Went in to simply get spokes tightened, wheels were straight. Was told they could not do it and to come back in a week when the guy who builds wheels is there. Meanwhile there were two mechanics and the owner there. I would think that they would be able to simply tighten spokes. I bought a spoke wrench from them and did it myself.
This is an excellent local bike shop. They offer a full assortment of bike accessories, all from top manufacturers, including a full line of Specialized bikes, parts and gear. Their prices are extremely competitive and their service is excellent. Ive gone there numerous times and always rode away satisfied. You could do much worse, but not better, in making them your LBS of choice.
This shop is one of a kind... My 2012 Trek FX road bike was in my basement during hurricane Sandy; consequently, its all rusted and everything looks like it just needs to be replaced.I called a couple of places and when I told them the story over the phone, their response: Its been too long, you just need to buy anotherI then remembered seeing this shop and decided to bring it in. The staff, super friendly and filled with knowledge. Instead of trying to sell me on something, they just dropped knowledge and told me that my bike was worth the fix and that didnt need much but an overhaul. Same day service and let me tell you, I left out of there completely satisfied.Staff are super friendly, knowledgeable
DO NOT GO HERE!!! These people are the dishonest auto mechanics of the bicycle world. Came in to replace a rear derailleur, it’s hanger and a new chain. Was told they cost about $20 more than they actually cost from looking online and on top of that they told me I would also need to replace something that has nothing to do with the issue, the rear cog, for another $65 bringing the total including labor to $240. Brought it to Bennett’s Bicycles on Jewett Ave and they’re doing it for $140. The people at Bennett’s actually care.
This shop is the best on Staten Island!! There is no other mechanic like Carlos and the owner Ashkin and Jenny know their stuff too. So far ive brought three bikes there and after they were fixed had no other problems so to all those complaining about rudeness and steep prices, you make no sense. High end bikes are gonna cost a lot and come with extra costs and if you want high end parts and permanent reliable repairs go to this bike shop. You wont be disappointed.
My wife and I didnt know thing one about bikes, we both havent owned bikes since we were in our teens, and we were fitted perfectly in to a pair of Specialized cross trails. Prices were competitive, service was great. Only complaint is the size of the store. Very tough to maneuver in there.
I had a very good experience with the Nyc Bicycle Shop. I had a very specific issue where I needed some adjustments made on my bike to allow me to sit more erectly. After experimenting with a number of ways to do this, they came up with a very creative solution and my ride is now much more comfortable. The cost was reasonable and there was minimum wait time.
Its like family being in NYC Bicycle Shop. Along with their hospitality including donuts and coffee, they know how to take care of bikes. With both upgrading my fixie and tuning up my road bike I am set for the season! Not only are they experienced, but prices are also good and have very nice range bike options and accessories.
Always smiling welcoming faces and attention to detail. Now after 5 visits, I have to say. ..this is THE Best bike shop in the city...without question. Its worth looking for as you ride up Bay Street. A short mile and a half from the ferry. Trust me, the trip is well worth it!
These guys are incredible!!! They will work with you on any project. I recently decided to convert my 29er to 27+. Carlos built my WTB Scraper wheels from scratch and set them up (tubeless). The work is done quickly, efficiently, and quality is always on point. A must visit on the North Shore. Besides being very handy and professional, they also carry some incredible bikes: from Fat to road carbon. The shop owner is a pleasure to talk to..I think he has 30+ years of experience. Hes incredibly handy.
Oshka (probably spelled his name incorrectly) was extremely resourceful and educated with modern bike. I had no idea the features I had on my bike and he fixed it along with showing me how to use my bike. He’s amazing and extremely patience with me. Bonus pts for being so close to my house.
This is the BEST bike shop in all of NYC!!! They are professional, curtious, knowledgeable and attentive. They listen to their clients needs before offering assistance......if someone needs a bike and/or repair this is where they need to be. Thank you.... I LOVE my bike!
I purchased a $780 bicycle there come to find out that you need a special piece to inflate the tires while I was on a bike ride. The lady was very rude when I asked her why they dont include a $3.00 adapter she informed me I shouldve asked for it, and that how she supposed to know where I inflate the tire?? Obviously no where because I didnt have the adapter which they should include with the sale, I actually would of bought 3 just in case I lose one.Funny thing I really like the bike I purchased and my wife wanted one just like mine, so I walked out of the store with a three dollar adapter and they lost a $500 sale on a new bicycleshame on them, know your customers and check your attitude.
Overpriced. I had a flat tire earlier in the morning and instead of bringing the bicycle to the shop, i decided to take the bicycle wheel only. I had initially removed the flat tube before entering and wanted to buy a new tube and have it installed and filled with air. I bought the tube at $10 bucks and they wanted an extra $7 bucks to install it. The tube was a few bucks overpriced I bought prior ones for $6. What really ticked me off was $7 bucks to install it was out right a robbery. I installed the tube myself outside and took advantage of the free air pump. It took me 3 minutes.I wouldnt go back. This shop is charging Manhattan prices. Check the neighborhood. $7 bucks to install a tube thats almost minimum wage in this neighborhood and he wanted to pocket that in 3 minutes.
New Drive in the F_42 Homemade Fully Faired RecumbentFirst I would like to thank my neighbor Ed Arso who when the chain snapped simply form to much riding he patiently helped me feed in two and a half lengths of new stainless chain, I am still learning bike mechanics. After a terrible field test the new chain was skipping so bad I managed to get to the NYC BICYCLE SHOP1178 Bay Street Staten Island, NY 10305they worked with me for several hours and not only diagnosed the problem but came up with some very good creative ideas. The rear cassette had to go it was as chewed up by the old chain. They suggested removing the two grip shifts and adding small handles bars. Amazing the machine now works like a charm and the bike handles much better.I would also like to thank Pete Lang for his input on this one of a kind hot rod bike. The input of several enlightened bike folk as served to bring this design to a working full-blown format simply amazing. They were patient ,professional and very creative, old school!!!!

2018-10-06Bike shops can be magical places. When all goes well you’re riding on air when u leave. NYC bicycle Shop has never ever failed me. I went on to have my winter tires mounted, new brake pads, pedals and advice. I got all that and they even honored a old discount receipt I had. My winter tires this year are the Continental Grandprix 4 Season. They’re German made tires with some really nice technology. It’s to early to say how they will perform this winter but on my ride from the shop they felt really good. During winter I will review them. I thought this bike shop was playing recordings of birds😂😂😂 Come to find out that on a shelf above me were two Canaries. Bright yellow and singing their Canary songs.

2021-09-28The people are nice and attentive. But the parts are trash. I had to replace my tires 3 times within 1 week, their tire inventory is poor quality. Also there are no refunds or replacements after you make a purchase so you’re stuck with those bad quality tires. Luckily I found a much better place in Manhattan that has great parts and affordable deals with popular brands and premium quality products.

2021-08-08I am giving this store 5 stars because of customer service. The Gentleman was knowledgeable and was very accommodating to us as we got there 45 minutes before closing and stayed past closing. He was honest about the cost to repair our bikes which were neglected. We appreciated his honesty.

2022-07-03Horrible service. Never coming back. I was there and asked the guy if he can check my bike he asked to bring the bike in. Once I brought it in he said that he can’t see it because he’s about to close.

2021-08-22The shop has almost no inventory. I came to the store and the owner literally showed me 1 bike of unknown Chinese brand for $600. I could not even find any reviews on it on the web. Also, it was the only bike shop where instead of offering me a test ride, the owner let me try it in the store only. I do not recommend this shop and will not be back!

2020-06-05The store is very organized and Ashkin(?) the owner was so helpful and explained to me everything I needed to know about my new bike. Highly recommended if youre looking for a new bicycle, want them to put together yours for you even if you had ordered it online or if you just want some accessories or a quick fix 👍

2020-07-21This shop has subpar service and inflated prices. The owner is taking advantage of the fact that he’s the only bike shop in the area. He takes advantage of those who may not have another option with price gouging. I was charged $6 for an item that only costs $1. The person ahead of me in line bought an item for far more than it really costs as well, received no help with installation, and was rushed out of the store. I had to assist him on the sidewalk outside. Do not take your business here. There are bike shops just across the bridge which are far better.

2016-03-19Every time I walk into this shop is a great experience. Nice and courteous people and always enjoy talking to them. They did a fabulous job fixing and maintaining my bike. The year before I bought a specialized hard rock street from here. It was one of the best riding bikes I ever owned. Anything you need for a bike or looking for a new bike thats a great place to go.

2017-03-18I dont usually do reviews but I had to rate this store. They are very friendly people .They always took care of my old bike (One time they fixed my crank arm for free!!) so naturally when I needed a new bike, I went there and once again, I loved the experience plus I get a 2 months free maintenance. Carlos is a great mechanic who knows and loves what he does. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to fix, rent or buy a bike especially if youre in Staten Island.
