Let me start by saying it always starts and ends with customer service. The level of customer service by Carlos, Lennyx, and Woody was/is fantastic. Went in on what I later found out was a unusually busy Sunday afternoon. Walking in Carlos who was stringing started helping. It’s been years since I’ve hit a ball, was not sure what racquet would be the right stick for me. Carlos started helping me by directing me to an Asics BZ racquet, which he said looked crazy, but assured me was a solid and a great priced racquet (Post my visit I did some research on the BZ and if I had picked that racquet would not have been steered wrong). However, I did want to see my options and so Carlos gave me a range of other racquets to look at. Carlos then needed to go back to stringing. He apologized and handed me off to Lennyx, who helped dialed into more of what would work best after hearing my racquet of choice had been the Pro Staff 95. He landed me on the Babolat Pure Strike 100. Again they were ridiculously busy that day, but they strung my new stick and my partners Prince O3 (which I have come to find out is notoriously a pain to string) before they closed. When I came back to pick up the racquets Woody helped me with a cover/bag. In summary amazing staff, great selection and they have a loyal customer in me. Thank you gentlemen.
What a wonderful experience! I rarely leave google reviews but from start to finish this was one of the best experiences Ive had at any establishment. Mark figured out what racquet Id used in highschool (ages ago!) just from a few half-formed memories and then showed me only racquets in my price range. He told me exactly what my money would get me and actually downsold rather than upsold me on a racquet so that I saved $50. As a student who makes negative money per hour this was so refreshing and kind. Im looking forward to coming back for any and all tennis related needs. Thanks, Mark & team!
Best tennis/racket store in NYC hands down. Fastest stringing service I was able to find and was pleased to find it at a reasonable price. Woody and his staff are really knowledgeable and were able to answer all my questions on rackets, strings, gauges, tensions, etc. Im getting back into tennis after a 10-year hiatus so I needed to get up to speed on all the latest strings and tech and they guided me through all the options seamlessly.Great demo program as well, was able to try all the rackets I needed for a great price, and the cost of the demos credit towards the cost of a new racket!Best of all, Woody and his staff wont try to sell you things you dont need. Hes been doing this a long time and they all know what theyre talking about. Its the only tennis shop Ill ever go to in NYC - have already told all my friends about it.
Quality shop with a great owner! I needed to get my new racquet strung and Im so happy I found Woodys shop. He provided excellent customer service, quick and quality stringing, and great tennis stories as well while I waited! Hes been in the business for years and you can just tell how much he loves what he does. Hes extremely knowledgeable, professional, and friendly.Wouldnt consider going anywhere else for my racquet needs after this experience. Thanks Woody!
This store is great! I had been struggling a few weeks to find a tennis racket for my needs as an intermediate player. As soon as I came here the owner helped me find the perfect racket and they strung it on the spot. Very knowledgeable and great service. Definitely recommend!
Horrible customer service experience. I purchased two great Nike tennis outfits for my wife and I. She didn’t like hers, so I had to return half of my purchase. They treated me like a second class citizen, assuming I bought the items for a photo shoot and asking I never return to shop there. I never will !
Highest recommendation!I was vexed when other tennis shops I contacted couldn’t restring my tricky diagonally-strung rackets. What a relief when I called this shop and they could. And they did. And on the same day I dropped off!The restringing service here is quality and value. The atmosphere is friendly and professional. The owner is passionate, knowledgeable, hard-working & takes pride in the work he does for you.Thank you again! Keep up the great work! Will return for future tennis needs!
Great place and kind people! I’m coming all the way from Jersey City to string my racquet here. The owner used to play with my current racquet so he was really happy to see it again. He took care of the stringing right away and it took only less than 30min. I’ll definitely come back to buy a couple of things. Their store looks great!
High quality service and the best tennis shop NYC. Close to all major subways and also pickup/deliver within a reasonable distance. Wide selection of racquets and apparel. Their stringing is precise and tensions are true. I’ve been coming here for 16yrs and have never had a complaint. Woody is the definition of a gentleman. Highly recommend.
Having been a customer for several years, I want to share how much Woody and the staff at NYC Racquet Sports care about each customer and the work they do.Never have I left the store disappointed. I truly could not ask for a more knowledgeable, end-to-end service that delivers not just product but service above and beyond.Truly a gem in NYC: the owner, the staff and the store.
Me and my best friend went down there to check out some tennis racquets as were getting more into the sport.. the owner helped us out so much and even stayed late to make sure we got the right racquet for our game. He’s super knowledgeable and friendly and only wants to make sure you get a racquet that fits you. I never write reviews, but in this time, I feel like it’s really important to support places like this who earn our dollar instead of the box stores. I’m never going anywhere else for tennis needs. Highly recommend
If you looking for a tennis racquet for any level that’s the place to go. Woody was taking care of me as the moment I step in inside the store with so much care and knowledge. Thank you Woody for your recommendation and for your generous service very excited for my new Wilson. :)
Woody as the owner is great. Extremely knowledgeable about the racquets. I’m a beginner and this is my first racquet. He recommended what was the best for me and made the most sense - not the most expensive. In the end he also gave me the vibration dampener and a bag for free! I’m not going anywhere else to shop for tennis gears from now on!
Fantastic service and advice. Walked in with two squash racquets to be restrung, Woody (the owner) actually handed one back to me and told me not to spend the money, that the strings were fine. He strung the second racquet in 10 minutes so we didnt have to return the next day. We appreciate the honesty and fast work.
Woody was very responsive and kind to help out immediately. Had a nice conversation with him right at the spot when he strung my racquet (all the while maintained good social distancing practice). Better check out your racquet and make sure youre ready for the summer practice!
Woody is a stringing artist and I have been trusting his directions for years. Buying a tennis racket is very personal and always dependent on the style of play. When I had wrist problems because I had purchased from a Internet dealer that outright lied to me, Woody was able to save my season with a string change and a racket recommendation. One can save a dollar with an Internet dealer who could care less about ones level and will provide a horrible stringing job. Buy from Woody because after you describe your level and concerns and style of play he will lead you to the perfect solution.
Woody and the staff at NYC Racquet are the best! They will string your racket(s) same day which is really appreciated! If you dont know what string or tension you want for your racket, the staff is very knowledgeable and will guide you in the right direction. They are also open early and opened till late for your convenience. You will never have a need to go anywhere else for your racket or stringing needs!
I came in to buy a racket yesterday and I was really pleased with the service I got. Woody the owner of the shop is a really nice guy and has a great passion for tennis, we didn’t only talk about the right equipment but we also had a nice chat about the game. When I came back the day after to ask some questions about strings I wanted to have, they surprised me with a ticket to have a meet and greet with Andy Murray which was AMAZING!!!!!! I would highly recommend this shop it doesn’t matter if you’re a beginner or a pro they have all the equipment you need, not just for tennis also for other racquet sports and the staff is also really knowledgeable.
The service is great! I came in an hour before closing and they were able to speedily string my racquet. They walked me through what string would be optimal for my play experiance, too! The crew was also really friendly and helpful. You just cant beat the service they provide here!
This place has great service and a really knowledgable staff. I came in to replace my racket, and Woody took less than a minute to size up my game and style, and made a recommendation that met my needs for power, balance and control. They even strung it for me in less than half an hour. Ill definitely be back!
I went the last week to the Usopen, and i was looking a good tennis store, i went to Madison to paragon sports and others and NYC Racquet Sports was the best store with a lot of good products and the most especial was the really good service of Woody he is the owner and his friend Kevin, the experience was terrific and amazing, i was late becouse they closed at 6, and when i ask for the time they told m, no worries we can wait whatever time you need, i was very happy with his deal, we talked about tennis and i purchesed a tennis racquet with the best recomendation fo woody, thank you very much im so happy for your service and deal and you have a new mexican friend
Convenient tennis store in NYC area. There were 3 stringers on site and the owner offered to do my racquet on site in an hour. He was very professional in suggesting a string when the one I wanted was out of stock and answered questions I had about my racquet and strings.
Not sure how anyone can rate this place under “5”. I was there today to buy a last minute Mother’s Day gift an Woody went above and beyond to make sure I was taken care of. He did not oversell me on a more expensive racquet, however he offered a great, well priced racquet and was able to string it in record time (13 minutes) so I was able to make my train.Bottom line, this is where you need to go in NYC for all your tennis supplies. I also bought a fashionable and reasonably priced outfit. Thanks Woody and the NYC Racquet team on 35th street!!
I went in one day asking Woody(the owner) for help and I am very disappointed. He told me he recommends one racket thats $125. I then asked him what the difference is in different brands. He told me that they are all the same. He seemed to be uninterested in my questions. All he wanted was to sell me an expensive racket. I have done research and found out that different brands are actually different style of rackets. They have different tension, different weight, and different stiffness. I am glad I didnt buy a racket from him because it was overpriced and the one he recommended wasnt right for me anyways.
What a lifesaver! NYC Racquet Sports is pretty much the only place in Midtown Manhattan that you can get all you need to start a game of tennis within minutes of walking in (including stringing!)The product selection is small but its of top quality; especially combined with Woodys vast experience, you will leave completely satisfied with your purchase. This will be my go to spot moving forward.
Very nice store and very well stocked .Im not a sports person, but use them to pick up my Amazon packages. The owner and fellow employees are very nice. If i ever get into tennis this is the first place i would go. I cant see how anybody would go anywhere else in the nyc area. They do tennis racquet stringing service as well. A ++++++++
Came for stringing. Finished stringing in less than a hour which is average time but its great he worked on it immediately.I dont know if he charges same for everyone but I was charged $25+tax for labor. Usually it only cost $15 + string so I felt ripped off. Still, his stringing has no problems and was speedy. I ended up buying a budget stringing machine myself and now I string myself for way lower. Took only about 3-4 hours to learn how to string.
I’ve been stringing racquets here for about three years now and have never experienced anything other than excellent and professional service. As a long time tennis player, I’ve always known what I’ve wanted and bought spoils of my favorite strings. This place will hold your spool(s) free of charge and deliver very prompt stringing orders (next day or even same day if you really need it for no extra charge).Other than knowing a private stringer you completely trust or outright buying your own stringing machine (not gonna happen in NYC) there is no better alternative than the 35th location NYC racquet location.
Had a really good experience buying a racquet from NYC Racquet Sports. The manager of the store approached us and quickly got down to asking questions. Within a couple minutes he had the racquet that we ended up walking out with (despite spending some time looking around after he handed it to us). Stringing was quick and discounted with the purchase of a racquet. We were in and out in under 30 minutes, including stringing, and felt good about the purchase.
Came to this shop after reading the reviews, my boyfriend was looking for a new racquet. We were looking for a place to buy a quality racquet, and that wouldnt pressure us a bunch or be condescending about our level of play.We found that and so so much more. The man who assisted us (the owner I think?) is a real classic tennis guy, incredibly fun to talk to, who clearly loves the sport and enjoys sharing his knowledge. He gave us space to look at the selection first, then happly took the time to discuss the pros and cons of different racquets based on my boyfriends style of play, and did so respectfully and never made us feel uncomfortable. When stringing the racket, he made suggestions that again were based on style of play, and took the time to explain what he was suggesting. Also, he strung the racket fast as anything. My boyfriend left happy as a lark, loving his purchase. This shop is the real deal, and Id recommend it to anyone. But especially to people, like ourselves, who love playing but are sometimes a bit put off by pressure selling or the snooty tennis crowd. Looking forward to the day I come back to buy a new racquet for myself!
Walked-in to buy my first new racquet in over 10 years. Woody was not only familiar with my old racquet, but able to make a GREAT recommendation based on its attributes. Pleasant, knowledgeable, no-pressure staff--all with a clear passion for the game. Even strung the new racquet while I waited!Highly recommended!
Woody is the tennis authority in NYC. If you need any information about the sport, equipment, history, courts, anything, hes your man.Ive had my racquet strung at his store more than once, always going out of my way to get there because I know his staff will do a great job and Ill get to stare at the pictures on his wall of all the legends hes met. HIghly, highly recommended.
They guided me and explained why I should buy the tennis racquet they recommended (something that was practical and suited my skill level), versus the one I wanted (I wanted something that looked nice and expensive). They are honest and truly care about their customer needs. I highly recommend this place.
I first went to NYC Racquet Sports because it was listed as a dealer at the Babolat website.Thats when I met Woody. Woody took the time to learn about my playing and what I was attempting to accomplish as a tennis player. He gave me valuable information about my racquet and other upcoming new products.I left with the conviction that I had met a store owner who is passionate about tennis and the industry. Most importantly, Woody values his relationship with clients more than making a sale.A few weeks later when the strings on my Babolat broke, I went back to NYC Racquet Sports. Woody immediately tended to my racquet and re-strung it. His recommendations were precise and accurate. The racquet feels better than when I originally purchased it. Woody gave me suggestions for my second racquet that were “right on target.”I enjoy shopping at a store where the products are displayed in an organized fashion and are not just randomly displayed. NYC Racquet Sports is a store that is clean and pleasant. There is room to browse and evaluate the products. One can count on courteous assistance from a staff of experts. The prices are competitive. NYC Racquets Sports is all of that and more.I have been encouraging all of my tennis friends to Go see Woody with the confidence that they will have an enjoyable experience and will be well taken care of.JT, November 29, 2014
I went there for restringing my main and back up racquet - he charged me 40 and 35. The string for the first one worn out in 10 matches of 1 hr and string for the back up was making humm sound from the first day. Very disappointed. I believe they just used some cheap strings.-- yes I took this medium because put did put a bad string and given your experience in the field you knew what you did. Coming back to you is not something I am going to do but do want to let others know to be careful with you
I have a really good memory from this place. They sell not much stuff but the stuff they have is amazing and of great quality. I bought some skirts and shirts from head which I have never found anywhere else which is a good thing because I do not like it when people are wearing the same things. The place was calm so I could extensively try things on. The staff was very nice as well.
I called and asked if they could fit in 3 full racket restringings as well as all three getting regripped in a few hours. They said it wouldnt be a problem and told me to drop them off and pick them up same day. It ended up taking them three hours and I was ready to go. Couldnt be happier!
Most knowledgeable people (esp. the owner Woody) in NYC what stringing and rackets are concerned. Sad but true that this is the only option in NYC to buy your tennis hardware if you are a serious player. All that other fake stuff (I can only speak for tennis rackets here) from Modells and Sport Authority is a complete waste of time and money by the way.
Love these guys! Just purchased two racquets - one used and one new per the suggestion of the racquet tennis pro. These guys really know what theyre talking about- employees have decades of tennis playing and selling knowledge behind them. Took the time to discuss grip, tennis playing level and usage needs while helping us pick our racquet.Cant wait to pick up my newly strung racquet, already have the used one with me at home. Thanks NYC Racquet Sports :D!
Amazing Service! I walked in looking to upgrade my pickleball racket. Received excellent service and was actually able to demo the racket I was interested it. After playing with it, I called up the store and purchased the racket over the phone. Didn’t even need to go back to the store. So happy with my purchase and the service I received!

2022-05-22The storage was super convenient and the prices were amazing compared to everywhere else! On top of that, the workers were extremely pleasant and helpful. Luggage was stored in a private back room and monitored by the workers throughout the day. Safe and cooled environment for luggage. 10/10 would recommend and use again!

2022-07-23Hands down the best tennis shop in NYC. Woody is a legend, they are all pros, can string your racket same day (while you wait often), and have been doing it for years. Don’t even think about another store in town.

2022-03-08Ran by two of the nicest guys in the world! I went in there to return something to the Amazon lockers in there opened the locker but went back to get tape to seal the package, and some idiot closed my locker to get to his without saying anything. They allowed me to stay and rectify the situation with Amazon and we had a great time. They laughed at all the jokes I had talking about the selfish jerk who closed the lockers. Great guys, great shop. It would be even better if I played racquet ball!

2022-05-03In a world where service has almost completely gone out the window, I found the service here to be impeccable. Kind, knowledgeable staff who suggested a reasonably priced racquet for a newcomer to tennis like me. Really appreciate their help!

2022-08-13What seems like a rarity nowadays; a brick and mortar store that offers extremely friendly staff, quick and professional service and great prices. Will be using NYC Racquet Sports for all my services moving forward. Thank you

2022-05-15Best place to get your badminton racket fixed and there are tons of rackets + pingpong paddles to choose from. The are many options for which string that you prefer and this is my fav racket store.

2022-01-20Ive been a customer since the day this store opened. When commuting into the city every day, they were conveniently located near Penn Station. Drop off on the way to the office, pickup on the way back home. Combined with the most consistently excellent stringing and always having just what Im looking for in stock, it was the perfect situation. Now that COVID has so many of us working from home, I send my frames to them via USPS for stringing. Yeah, there are local people and some actually arent bad - but theres just a little extra something that NYC Racquet Sports brings that makes it worth getting it to them. Theyre simply that good!I refer friends to them without hesitation, and have never had someone tell me the experience was anything less than perfect.

2022-01-15Hands down the best place to re-string. Woody and crew are extremely helpful and knowledgeable. My synthetic gut strings were popping every two weeks but I couldn’t change to polyester strings due to an elbow issue. Woody helped me find a combination of strings and string savers that feels good and keeps my strings intact for months instead of only weeks. Even though it means less business for him, he did the right thing for his customer - which is why I will be a patron for as long as I continue to get on the court.

2021-11-17Ive had several great experiences at NYC Racquet Sports. The staff is always helpful and there is always a good selection in the store. The prices are competitive as well. I recently ran into an issue with an item I purchased a few months ago. Luckily the owner was accommodating, and he went above and beyond to help me out. I always recommend this place to my friends if theyre in the market for a new racquet or just need some equipment.
