A useless review since electric companies basically have legal monopolies over us and we have no choice but to choose from one. But this company is absolutely horrible. I lose power if the wind blows in China. In the winter, summer or calm fall day. Lose power after 7 pm? You’re screwed til the morning as they do not work past 7 pm. Just last month I was billed twice separately because they were too lazy to read the meters and gave some lame excuse. We were without power for 7 days last week. Unique circumstances, but again, they didn’t work past 7 pm so it delayed things and they “promised” us via multiple emails that power was going to be restored every day and yet, those promises were empty. And here we are. Less then a week with power again and the power is out AGAIN. Inaccurate outage maps and restoration times makes things nearly impossible to track anything. Hopefully this review might save a future home buyer from buying a home where NYSEG is its provider.
We were hit by the tropical storm a couple of days ago and had our power restored yesterday. All of our groceries went bad which is understandable. We brought a fresh batch of groceries as the power was restored. At appx 940 am the power goes back out with their website notifying me that my estimated restoration time would be sunday at 11pm. I called their customer service line and the representative was unsure as to anything about the situation. This company is absolutely ridiculous. If i knew the power was going to go back out i would have never brought another set of groceries. This is the absolute worst electric company that ive ever dealt with
Honestly I don’t know how these people get paid. They had 30 trucks leave at night to fix the power and we still have no power and they take the day off like they haven’t had it all year. Lazy people, also comes with a useless company who take your money every month with no problem. But when people NEED power to sustain many things in their house they go and do nothing. Thanks NYSEG
It’s ridiculous how often we’re losing power for days losing food having to go spend money to stay at other hotels and then having a longer commute to go to work all because you guys won’t be a little proactive and clean around the areas that are constantly getting knocked out of power. I had my lines buried 2 1/2 years ago and I lose power more than ever It did me no good.
Why is NYSEG offering SolarFarms info and sign-up spiel to Downstate residents? Not our power company and nowhere near your solar farms. From the reviews, I pity you customers. We have our own hurricane, windstorm, blizzard, and car-hit-a-pole issues here.Looks like a crowd fund ad attempt without writing crowd fund.Sketchy to false advertising.NOPE to the NOPE.
Day 4 no power. I called and a robot said my power would be back by midnight. Perfect.Called again and they said it was already restored (LOL). Nope.Called again they said it will be back tomorrow at night at 11pm. Right...If their communication was better with their customers you could be much more forgiving. 100k houses to restore is a lotta work Im sure. But cmon man!I called the emergency line accidentally and the rep took my call anyway knowing this. She was nice and wanted to help. Unfortunately she was confined to her headset and laptop. Id just like to shower.
The power is constantly going out where we live. The power went out for 6 days in March during a snow storm. Central Hudson services homes down the road and they were restored with power in 2 days. We were assured a refund on our bill but have not received a refund as of yet. No surprises there. NYSEG cannot meet their customers needs and demands. NYSEG needs to revamp their service already or a new electric company needs to replace them. The power went out last night and to no avail is it out again as I am writing this. They absolutely stink!!!!!!!!!
Atrocious. We are on Day 6 without power after Fridays storm and now in the middle of a new storm. Rates are high to begin with and, with this type of inept storm response, I cant help but wonder what we are paying for. Our estimated restoration time was originally on Sunday...then Tuesday...now were back to Assessing. It is completely unclear when or if we will have power restored. Its impossible to get through to NYSEG and get real information and their website is wildly inaccurate. I understand this was a bad storm and it takes time to do the work, but we have a 9 month old and need to, at a bare minimum, be able to plan based on accurate information. The complete lack of information and clear mismanagement of the storm response is unacceptable. We are really frustrated by the ineptitude shown here by NYSEGs management. Please do better.
Yes, I am a kid, but still, this issue was not acceptable. The weather was perfect for fixing a power line, but they waited 4 days. The storm started March 2. It was March 6th when the power was fixed. They left about 78,000 households in the dirt with no power. NYSEG, get your self together. *makes an angry face, crosses arms. 😭😭😭Update:Again... another symmetrical thunder storm. We lost power before it even started. It’s still unexceptable. This is lowering standards for NYSEG, even though it already got so much hate from everyone I know. NYSEG, get it together.
I wish I could give ZERO BECAUSE THIS COMPANY IS HORRIBLE. Power goes out constantly and takes forever for them to fix the issue. I have lost over $500 in groceries! How can the power go off during the covid pandemic?! This is absolutely ridiculous! And the customer services is non existing. Utter garbage.
Theyre pretty much straight garbage. Forced to have them cause of where I live, Id give them negative stars if i could. They are awful with preparing for any type of storm, If one rain drop or snowflake falls my power goes on and off and for the most part stays off cause i have NYSEG. Currently have not had power for almost 3 days and have seen 0 trucks, kind of like the rating i want to give them. Their customer service is also trash, they fear getting roasted by their customers so they give you automated voice systems only. Also took them 3 days to even give everyone an ETA of restoration, which btw is 2 days from now. Hence, S/O to NYSEG for being useless. Con-Ed>>>>>>>>>> NYSEG
It seems power outages are occurring more frequently and lasting longer. Ive lived in Putnam county for the last 30+ years and Ive experienced more power outages in the last 6 years then I had in the previous 24 yrs.The service is lousy. The perdiem crews they hire ore inept, unknowledgeable and rude. Yet they can raise our rates!!!! Absolutely incredible and unjust.
No proactivity whatsoever. NYSEG waited until after a major storm—which had been predicted a week in advance—to begin mobilizing resources. Thousands of customers were without power and it took NYSEG two days to assess the situation and another two days to correct it. The crews would only work during daylight hours. So we, the customers, had no power for 4 days in the middle of winter. Unacceptable.
Is there some way to report this electric company to the state or something?! Constantly with the power outages and the random on and off sometimes lasting a day or so. People have expensive electronics that arent meant to be constantly turned on and off while running.
Absolutely horrific! We are always the first one to lose it and the last one to get our electric back. I cannot tell you how much food has been wasted due to outages. And they dont even have the common courtesy to have an actual live representative Speak to you. The website update is a disgrace. There is no accuracy in anything they say. All I can tell you is Im tired of being cold and without lights.
Its sort of useless to write a review as they have a monopoly but I guess people just need to be heard. NYSEG has no trouble taking our money but when there is a disaster they are nowhere. Canada has to come to the rescue.NYSEG - cut the trees already. You know the issue. If it isnt your job to cut the trees then develop poles and wires impervious to falling trees. Three times in a few months we have been out of power for many days. Ridiculous. Put some of your profits into infrastructure and stop worrying about making invasive smart meters.
What a sorry excuse for an electrical company. They can’t even restore power! They let tens of thousands of people sleep in freezing cold temperatures with no light or hot water for 5 days. On top of that they spent the first 2 days “assessing” the outage (aka doing nothing…there was not 1 truck ou there) and gave bogus restoration times after that. They claimed to have had help from Canada and Maine, but it takes those people AT LEAST 24 hours to get to the effected area, and possibly more to actually START working. Why can’t the actual Nyseg (NEW YORK State Electric and Gas) people help us? They should be more prepared so people and children and pets don’t have to be cold and suffer. we didn’t have heat for 5 days. My family and neighbors are outraged. Would give 0 stars if possible
Out again? This is really getting old... I moved into a area that nyseg services about 8 months ago and Im losing power on average every two weeks! I understand that outages are expected to happen every once in awhile so Ive been very patient and Im pretty well prepared. I lived in a bunch of areas that central hudson services and never had any issues. I lost all respect for nyseg when they posted on social media about a updated dry ice location in Amenia 50 minutes from me. Awesome... I really needed it to keep my wifes home injections cool so two minutes after they posted it I rushed over to find that it was all melted and just a pile of wet soggy paper bags under week old snow. I went in the building thinking that cant be it must be inside in coolers or around back well they said it was dropped off last week and that was it nyseg hasnt been back since. That was a real slap in the d*ck. How can you update a dry ice location you dropped off a week ago? I wasted nearly two hours of my life for soggy paper bags. Thats text book grimey business! If you are looking to buy a house avoid nyseg areas at all cost! I wish I knew I learned the hard way. I miss you central hudson! :/
Should I rate my Generac generator and wood stove? I give them both 5 stars. Heck, I even rate my environmentally improved gas cans higher than NYSEG (improved as in leaking gas all over the fing place while filling the generator). Well, we hear about how pathetic and outdated the power grid is in most states. NYSEG has proven to be the leader showing us how bad it is. 5-6 days ago we had winds and heavy snow but no visible fallen branches, trees, or electrical lines...thats in the 3 towns I live and drive around in. So, why the hell are we in darkness for as long as we are? I think NYSEG are a bunch of greedy fers that pocket the cash without investing in more reliable and safer systems. I just wish I didnt read all those EMP power grid failure and apocalypse novels! Fun reading time becomes a bit too real. ;) Anyway, day 6 without power!!!!!! get your 5hit together NYSEG!!!!!!!!!!!
NYSEG truly sucks. Living in Putnam County, there is no alternative, but their service is horrendous. Our service has been out approaching one week with nothing but nonsense from customer service. NYSEG actually has a sophisticated alert system to tell you nonsense without the benefit of a human. While I suspect my feedback is meaningless, I will do my part to wallpaper the internet with my contempt for this company. If you work for NYSEG and have the courage to identify yourself, please get in touch. NYSEG is a regulated utility, and I for one will make my feelings clearly known to my elected representatives.Shame on you NYSEG and your parent company as well.
Lived up here in Putnam County for 17 years. Started on the budget plan at that time. Each year the budget amount changes, no problem. So on the recent plan I am paying $178 per month regardless of the bill. All of a sudden as I have 2 months left on this yearly cycle my monthly bill drops from $178 to $74???? So then the final bill of the 12 month cycle is a whopping $340. The response I get is the computer automatically adjust the bell. Makes no sense. If the usage throughout the year has not changed then why would the computer lower the amount over $100 per month? Customer service putting the total blame on the computer.
The worst!!High rates... not proactive as far as far as avoiding outages..Was out for 3 1/2 days... power back for a day , power out again!!!Time to be proactive not reactive!!!Response time is horrible.... service is horrible... unfortunately there is no alternative.... thanks for nothing NYSEG!! You suck!!
I live on Heather Drive in Mahopac. They turned the power on last night which caused my side of the street to go live, but It has been 6 days and we still have wires all over the place. Please tell me how can they flip the switch with my wires all over the ground. Quebec Hydo came today to replace the pole. Nyseg told them to only replace the pole and the crew left.It has been several hours and no one else has come and we still dont have power. And now we are the 2nd storm.
Okay 1 star only because i cannot give zero star. my mom and dad are really upset...the electric company turned on the power on one side of heather drive in mahopac, but acrooss the street and up the block still wires on the ground across the front of 4 houses.. mom and dad said how incompetent and dangerous and some other words they apologized for.
This has to be the worst company ever , any time it rains no power I mean how horrible are the power lines obviously they don’t care because they don’t do anything during the nice weather months to see if poles need replacing or the trees are to close . Abysmal company
This electric company is absolutely horrible. On Christmas dayvmy famybwas left without food or anything to eat due to the fact that my power went out and no one even responded to me. They did not even allpw me to enter a request to show that my power was out. Worst company ever.

2022-06-01This has got to be the worst company Ive ever dealt with! I own a business in Mahopac and have been open for nearly a year and have only received 2 bills from them this entire time. Even for those 2 bills I had to call multiple times to inquire why the meter wasnt being read. Even after finally reading the meter, they never generate a bill! I have to call multiple times, wait on hold for 45 min or longer and they say they will escalate the invoice and 2 weeks goes by, still a $0 balance. Absolutely the worst. I shouldnt have to call a thousand times to receive a bill. Do better!

2022-02-15Absolute worst. Over an hour long call wait time every day for over the week. Multiple times I spent 45 minutes on hold and the call drops. Need our meter inspected as its making a loud noise and not reading properly. They keep pushing off sending someone out to inspect it. Finally after 1.5 weeks they send someone out and all he was told to do was read the meter. He said he was not qualified to inspect the meter and could not answer any of our questions...Oh and on top of this our rates more than doubled in 1 month.

2021-12-16Just called because my power has gone out and come back on 5 times in the last 30 minutes, I tell them and they say they want to charge me if it is on my end.. its pitch back does she expect me to go out and try and inspect the wires? That and they wont guarantee a fix.I told her I guess Ill just call back every time it goes out, and while I was on the phone power goes out and I lost the call. Terrible customer service, but at this point thats to be expected I guess.

2021-11-02Haven’t read our meter since 8/20 siting one lie after another after being customer for 30 years. We have videos showing no one showed up twice after making special meter reading appointments. Shameful lying employees and no contact available with supervisory dispatch. Also bill went started going up after direct debit was started. Call your congressman or state rep to get resolve. Nudge no help. Only reason why I hit one star is because it wouldn’t post my review with one. Shameful thieves

2021-04-06This is really a three and one half star review. On the bright side we’ve had fewer outages the past few years than we did when I first moved here several years ago. I find their text messages about the status of outages to be helpful, too. Unfortunately, their rates remain rather high and other types of customer service (beside the text messages) are just average at best.

2021-08-03Literally trying to get my electric turned on for a week and still haven’t come to my house. I call them to make an appointment and they say that nyseg will come the next day. They never came and I was at my house all day. NYSEG needs new workers and overall management. This company deserves less than one star tbh.

2020-09-18Service to my workshop was disconnected due to damage from tropical storm. Had all repairs finished up over 3 weeks ago. 2 weeks ago when I called to find out when they where going to reconnect my service and install meter back in I was told 10 days due to material shortages. 2 weeks goes by and nothing. Call again and Imtold they still dont have the materials and they have no idea when Ill be back on line. 7 weeks without power! How the hell does a power company not have 75 ft of triplex and a meter?!

2020-08-072 years after my first review and this company has gotten drastically worse. Been almost 3 days with no power, not a wire or tree down in sight but they’re still “Accessing” the situation. People making decisions in the company should immediately resign, they have not prepared the state for any natural disaster and I think people are fed up. Only time I see NYSEG vehicles is when there is a mass outage, but I should see them all the time trying to make adjustments to avoid situations like this. They said power should be restored 2 nights ago, they said the same thing last night and for tonight. Just shows you how much of clueless clowns they are.
