Needed to phone to have a couple of bottles sent to my wifes hotel room. Excellent service and suggestions from Carlos. Very helpful and professional. I told him my price points and he had excellent suggestions. He called me as the hotel was confused and wanted to make sure there was no mistake. Wines were gift-wrapped and delivered on time. Will definitely shop there (hopefully in person) again.
Oak and Steel is a superb wine shop right across the street from Carnegie Hall. It offers a large selection of carefully vetted wines for all occasions in a broad price range. The staff is friendly and helpful. Carlos is particularly well-informed. I have never gone wrong with a wine he has recommended.
Lets be up front here: this store is NOT cheap, and their mark-up is pretty rough. If youre coming here to buy on the regular, brace your credit card. What does your money get you? EXCELLENT knowledge about the liquor. Carlos has a good eye for whiskey, though the woman whose name eludes me at the moment is a bit better. He can give you tasting notes on a lot of it, but she can give you comparable bottles if you tell her a preferred brand that they dont stock.Their wine selection is good, and runs the gamut of $15 bottles to $500 with pretty relative ease. I do like that I can buy the daily wines here while being able to grab the occasion wine here as well.Best of all, they tend to get some of the rarer whiskies and spirits in that your average store wont carry. Del Maguey, Widow Jane, etc, are usually all here, as are some of the fine Japanese offerings like Hibiki. If your tastes run towards the expensive side, or you just want to get a nice treat as a gift, try this place out. They wont steer you wrong.
Nice people, but prices are crazy high. Bought Four Roses yellow label for 50% over retail because that was the least mark up and didnt think anything else close by was open. Wish I would have known store 1 block away on Columbus Circle was open late. Went there after and prices were much more reasonable.
Walked in today to make a purchase - met at the front door by a male salesperson. I told him the name of what I was looking for, he looked me up and down and told me that he only carried the high end product, not the cheaper version (this without my having even discussed price range), so I might want to look elsewhere. Upon hearing this, I walked out, went to another store three blocks away, was met by a friendly and courteous sales person, made my purchase and went back to my office. Please note that I have already started spreading the word about my unpleasant experience. So, not only did I spend the almost $200 that I dropped in the other store here, I am going to make sure that my colleagues here at my firm know not to waste their time and money at Oak & Steel.
I was desperate to get a gift for a friend at the last minute. This place came through and made it easy. Carlos was the best and knew my urgency. It was good old NYC customer service...something I miss living in Europe. Will be calling again for more gifts now that I have this number.Thank you, Carlos.

2022-06-03Terrible customer service. Was asking very simple and reasonable questions. Basically treated me as if I wasn’t worth the time of day. My questions were involving their Elmer T Lee bottle and other Buffalo trace exclusives. If they were any nicer I woulda bought the bottle. Central perk wine and spirits is a block away. Awesome service and all the bottles are 10% cheaper.

2021-07-28It was 2,5 years since we visited NYC, but when we were there Oak & Steel did provide us with a great shopping experience and a really good NYC memory. The guys in the shop had great knowledge of wines and could offer us really good advise on what grapes they thought we would like based on.We got a couple of great wines that we could enjoy gazing at the New York skygazingWhen we get back to the States and gets the chance to visit NYC again in the future we will make sure to stop by to support a great shop!

2017-12-10We loved our experience here! Super cute store and the owner the owner has a very nice story. He was helpful in picking out a wine that we would like based on what we told him and showed us the cheaper wine options because that’s what we requested. We actually walked further from our hotel to go here instead of the liquor store closer to us and I’m glad we did!

2022-06-05This wine boutique in 57 has some interesting bottle but be prepared to pay a huge mark up on the average street price, but you are at an expensive midtown location.

2021-05-21Awesome selection of wine. The person behind the register was helpful and was there to answer any questions that we had. They had some really excellent bottles of wine. And have a great half bottle selection as well.

2021-07-10A friend of mine went here last night. The place closes at 12 and she was there at 11:30. The manager on duty turned off the lights and closed because he “didn’t feel safe.” If you don’t “feel safe” at a liquor store at night then you should switch careers. If Black Young Adults scare you, then you shouldn’t be working there. I am very flabbergasted and disappointed in the way Jasmine and her friends were treated.

2021-09-23Great selection and location, but the same exact bottles sell at other wine stores in Manhattan (e.g. Astor) for about 25% less. You pay for the convenience.

2020-08-29Walked in looking for some bourbon, and almost every bottle was drastically overpriced. They are clearly trying to take advantage of unknowing customers by marking up sought after bottles, some at more than 150% over MSRP.This store exemplifies everything wrong with the bourbon market today. On top of that, I made a comment about some bottles being a bit expensive and was literally laughed out of the store by the staff. They obviously know they are ripping people off, and smirked at the fact that I knew as well. AVOID at all costs.
