Besides books they have beautiful cards, interesting gifts and good assortment of boardgames for adults. They also have an entire kids section of books and games.
This is a fantastic book store. The staff is warm and welcoming and the childrens section is awesome. Books are displayed in an emgaing way for children and they have high quality toys and games on offer. They also have really awesome puppets!
Bookstores are precious gems these days and Oblong has such a wonderful vibe. They have a table of books on sale. Oblong is loving LGTB community friendly. The childrens book and toy section is so cute.

Friendly bookstore with an interesting selection, places to sit, and wonderful childrens section with a little toy store full of very creative toys. I usually end up buying all of my holiday gifts for the kids in my life here.
This is my favorite bookstore in the Hudson Valley. Always a well curated selection of fiction and non-fiction and, in particular, art and design and local interest books. The New Years Day sale should be on everyones list!

2022-05-24My recent visit to Oblong reminded me how incredibly important independent bookstores are. Oblong is a exemplary example of a community centered book seller. Fun to explore books and audio on display.

2022-07-17I love, Love, LOVE this bookstore. They do a great job of featuring books I didn’t know needed to be on my TBR pile, and also tons of “staff recommendation” cards with descriptions about why they chose those books. Don’t judge this book by the florescent lights corporate feel/cover - it is an Indie Jewel through & through!

2022-07-11Went there this morning with my family on vacation. We had been last year as well. We were one of two families with little kids in the store. We heard two employees complaining about having children in the store. Additionally they were complaining about folks from NYC coming to the area on vacation. We will send an email to the store as well but I would not recommend going here if you have children or if you are on vacation. We checked out because I didnt want to make a scene in front of the kids. Not sure if it matters but we will definitely not ever go back.

2019-03-11I wish I lived next door to this bookstore. It’s everything a book store should be. The books are thoughtfully displayed and sorted with hand written recommendation notes, and there are lots of squashy comfy sofas for unhurried appreciation of their selection. Also lots of stationary and games etc on offer, which makes for pleasant browsing. My friends and I spent a very pleasant hour in the store looking through all the books. We each found a little something to add to our libraries and I event bought some flower seeds for a friend!

2019-03-13First time to see a bookstore with notes on books they are selling...feels like it help people to pick faster what type of book you like to read...fiction, history, war etc. Would love to see more bookstore like this.

2021-07-04My husband went in yesterday and knew exactly what he was looking for. He was not aware that the store closed at 6 PM, and the staff was quite rude to him about there being 4 minutes left for him to shop.I understand wanting to go home. I understand that customers can be EXCEPTIONALLY rude and entitled. But that’s not him. He was in and out in less than 4 minutes, and he did not make them stay late. If your store is open until 6 PM, people should be able to shop and buy something until 6 PM without anyone getting snarky.We’ve also noticed an element of snobbery towards him on other occasions that we’ve popped in. The staff is more than happy to wait on me, but when they see him - a big man with tattoos who isn’t dressed in posh fashions - they look right down their nose. I stopped shopping at the Rhinebeck store for that reason; if my husband isn’t good enough for your store, I’m not either.I wish he hadn’t purchased the book from here to be honest, but he wanted it then. We’ll stick with the staff at the Oblong in Millerton; they’re much more professional, welcoming and don’t treat him like he’s not good enough to be in the store.

2020-12-31This place is great. Very friendly & helpful staff. Always clean. They will order anything for you that you want which they dont have in stock. Ive ordered stuff there many times over the yrs & it only takes a few short days to come in. I also am a big fan of their kids section having 3 kids myself. Would definitely go back & would definitely recommend! Remember to shop local they need our support in times like these when many small businesses are struggling due to covid-19.

2021-02-10What a fun store! Super clean and crisp shelves of books with a decent variety of genres and titles. If it wasnt so far from me Id frequent it more often. A little hard to find parking for, but totally worth it once you do.
