This is a delightful addition to the neighborhood that really ups the quality of the restaurants around here. We decided to try Oita for takeout, but I have to say the interior is gorgeous, and on a Saturday night, business looked good (tables were still safely distanced, which I appreciate). We ordered the tempura udon, the kimchi, the fire roll and the chirashi, and everything was so delicious and fresh. The food was packaged and presented SO beautifully -- just as gorgeous as the photos in the online menu.I loved the texture of the noodles -- perfectly bouncy, and the broth tasted clean and comforting. The fish in the roll and the chirashi was really nice -- good quality and tasty. Lovely, fast service, too. The food was ready even a few minutes before the promised time. The whole experience really exceeded my expectations. Im definitely going to be a regular here. Welcome to Park Slope, Oita!
Clean design and ambiance. Everyone from the hostess to our server to the head sushi chef were extremely kind. My friends & I did the sushi omakase and sat at the chefs counter. Each piece was fresh and delicious. $80 included 10 hand crafted pieces omakase, 3 small apps (seen in photo) and a very delicious seafood miso soup. I wish I took more photos but worth sitting at the counter to get the full experience. We will be back!
Went here for the first time for lunch with my friend. The decor and ambiance is really lovely. I got the sashimi platter and everything was so fresh and tasty. This place is so beautiful and the food is really good. My friend got the udon with tempura and said it was delicious. Highly recommend.
Oita is like, actually really delicious sushi. There’s a lot of mediocre-good sushi in the area but it is absolutely in the top tier if not the best I’ve had here, and definitely the best delivery sushi we’ve had in the area. So grateful they’re here and can’t wait for the next time we order 😋😋😋 The karaage fried chicken was crispy, a little spicy, a little sweet — amazing. And we got a sushi set and the 4 special house rolls combo. The sushi was incredibly high quality and fresh, and the rolls were unique, not too heavy and mayonnaisey like so many roll specials, and so flavorful and delicious. Thanks again Oita!
This is a hidden gem in Brooklyn! The service was great, they have a non-contact service which means you have to scan their menu and order by using your phone. The place has such a good vibe, once you come inside you feel kind relaxed. The food was delicious, I tried the Tuna Ceviche, Baja Tuna roll and New York Roll and Bibibamp! Everything was so tasty. I would definetely come back to this place.
Went for an Omakase dinner at Oita and had the most fantastic time. This is not my first Omakase rodeo and I would rank this in top three Omakases in NYC. Flavors came from great ingredients and the toppings (added to some of the sushi, were actually complementary and not distracting from the fish). The botan shrimp sushi and scallops sashimi were my favorite pieces during my visit. Sushi chef was kind and friendly. Staff was attentive. Will return for other dishes and more Omakase.
What is there not to love about this place? Customer service, amazing. Food, delicious and fast service but by no means last food. Great atmosphere and everything is fresh. I’ve been going there since they opened a year ago with my sister. Whoever wrote the review that they have been going here for over 4 years isnt talking about correct place. They haven’t even been open that long. Can’t recommend this place enough, I bring any visiting guests here.
I came to Oita which moved to Brooklyn. Wow wow wow the restaurant was cool and well arranged. I loved variety selections that they didn’t have in Manhattan. And they finally sell the liquor that I requested before!!!!! Rolls and temaki with hot sake was a heaven. I still need to come back to Oita because I didn’t try all the foods.
I revisited this place after they moved to Brooklyn.First of all, the place is way bigger than before, and very nice and modern interior.I ordered an appetizer named ‘Salmon Tartar’ with the QR code, it was very nice and enjoyable. The presentation was nice. I love the crispy lottos roots which was slightly spicy but it goes well with the salmon tartar.
Best sushi Ive ever had! Melts in your mouth! Very creative and diverse menu with many items I had never seen in other sushi restaurants before. Tasted amazing and I could tell it was quality ingredients. Staff were very friendly. Would recommend this place to friends, family and anyone!
3/5 Quality of Food4/5 Quantity of Food5/5 Service4/5 Value (Price to Food + Service)I would say this is a classic case of form over function. Presentation is great, I ordered the mommy rose roll and it definitely looked better than it tasted. It wasnt bad but it was a little on the bland side. Friendly people and very helpful service, but unfortunately would not be my first choice.
Food was very good, and our waiter, Alex, did everything he was supposed to do as a waiter. The quality of the food, and the ambience of the restaurant is definitely worth the price. The ONLY reason that I’m not giving this restaurant a 5-star review is because of the lack of beverages. Literally, the ONLY two things to drink over there outside of tea and coke, was some expensive oriental drinks in bottle. I had one and wasn’t a fan. How do you have a nice restaurant but not have any juice??? Bizarre, but whatever.Overall, I enjoyed my experience. Me and my lady had a good variety of food for a reasonable price, and couldn’t eat it all so we packaged it to go.Would I come back? Yes.Would I recommend this place to a friend? Yes.
Horrible service. They seated my girlfriend and I even though the kitchen didnt have capacity to make our food.We were told there was a 20 minute wait so after 30 minutes I asked about our table. They said more than 10 minutes. Which sounded very ambiguous so I asked if we could order a bottle of sake and wait at the bar. They said yes, and we could order a few sides that werent from the sushi bar.About 40 minutes later which I figured was long enough I asked if we could place the rest of our dinner order. They walked us through what we could order, and we ordered 3 dishes but were only served 2.While waiting for the third dish we were just given the check and not asked if we wanted dessert. They should have never seated us. And if they were to seat us communicate better instead of making me check up on everything.Order:300 ml bottle dassai 232 complementary shots of yuzu liquerKarage: pretty good a bit spicy for me but I think most people will like itAsahiGlass of yuzu liquerTemaki set: this was okay, but its very similar in style to Nami nori and not nearly as goodHamachi kama: the flavors of this were great, but the plate must have been super cold and/or they forgot about it in the kitchen because it came out on the brink of cold.
The catering that this place provides is really amazing. I always order their platters for holiday events, and everyone raves about how unique, beautiful and delicious their sushi is. You can tell the sushi is very high quality and that the sushi chefs really take pride in their work. They decorate the platter with beautiful roses made out of radishes and butterflies. I love the fact they have very unique rolls for a quick pick up and they have made their store more convenient for the busy life of people living in manhattan as well. I like to take my friends here every so often because the quality here just cant be beat. TWO THUMBS UP! Best sushi I have ever had.
This is one of the best sushi place in UES.I found Oita sushi while walking around the neighborhood. My mother and I tried several rolls and surprisingly, all were so delicious! Since my mother loves sushi rolls so much, I ordered a sushi platter for her birthday. The sushi platter kept the same good quality and it was nicely decorated, too!I am happy that this tiny sushi place exists in my town.
I love sushi! I googled and found this sushi restaurant. I bought several lunch boxes and enjoyed with my friends at the park. They looked very fresh and the taste... They’re amazing! They’re gone in a flash!!! We’re in heaven. I was so glad we all enjoyed and felt so happy with the best quality sushi.
I had a special gathering with my international friends I havent seen in awhile and made a quick decision to order sushi catering. We googled and found Oita Sushi because of its good reviews. And just as we had hoped the Platinum catering platter we ordered was fresh, the pricing was reasonable to its proportion, and most importantly it was delicious!! All my friends loved it and we couldnt have had better food for our special gathering. Theres a lot of sushi restaurants in Manhattan, but if youre looking for THE BEST, Oita Sushi is where I would recommend to everyone!!!
Decide to try this following the good reviews. Tried the sashimi, shishito peppers, una don, and kimchi. They were good (fresh, high but not unusually high quality), but the high price given the small portions made me expect something premium, which it is definitely not. In particular, there are not many options of fish. I didnt try any rolls though because the sashimi was not special, so whats the point? Food presentation is good. Staff is friendly, although overwhelmed. The ambiance is very nice though. Reading the other reviews after being to the place its now clear to me that several people were particularly delighted by this. If you (like me) are looking for premium quality and special food even if at a high price, this place is not recommended (you do get the high price though). There are several better options in Park Slope. If youd rather prefer a modern/clean/spacious atmosphere (and good food), then its a very good option.
While there is limited seating, the service is spectacular. I had to move to a barstool, after a large party walked in. I agreed to move, and the staff served me extra sashimi and edamame to show their appreciation. I was very thankful. The rolls were tasty and fresh. Will be recommending this spot.
I am absolutely blown away by this sushi establishment in Manhattan!I was not expecting much due to the higher-than-normal prices, but I was absolutely blown away by the freshness of the sushi and the quality of the miso soup, not to mention the salads on the side were really tasty. The salmon sashimi was fresh, and the tuna sashimi was delicious. The shrimp shumai was really nice. The salad on the side was amazing! I usually dont eat salad, but I couldnt stop eating this particular salad. The miso soup was really fresh and yummy too~I will definitely be coming back.
Love this place!! My friends surprised me with a birthday dinner there last weekend and it was great.. we ordered a smattering of different things (shoutout to the spicy tuna on crispy rice, that was bomb) and everything was really delicious and beautifully presented.. They were extremely helpful in taking pictures of our wacky crew and slicing the bday cake etc. Big thanks to the whole staff~ highly recommend!
This is quite possibly the best sushi Korean fusion experience in NYC.EVERYTHING about the dining experience is simply perfect. I was tempted to order everything twice but will be returning very soon for more teas & Tuna Yuzu Ponzu. Our dinner was completed with jabchae, Baja Fresh roll and the best Unagi Don. I normally post fotos but their website and Google listing photos convinced me to come out from our usual Sushi favorite out of Flushing/Bayside for a night I wont soon forget. In case you are concerned, they are COVID Complient with temperature checks, contact tracing, social distancing physical plastic barriers, hand sanitizer everywhere and QR Coded Menu / Checkout.
Incredibly tasty with a clever take on “fusion”. The sushi is very much sushi – but I can’t say I’ve had sushi with American/South American-style kick (serrano peppers) or crispy citrus flavors (mango, lemon peel, yuzu, salmon), and certainly not as well executed. Somehow they manage to plate everything well for takeout, too.
The best sushi I have had in my life. All of their ingredients are fresh and natural and unlike some places, the sushi is refreshing with a clean taste. They have a lot of unique rolls, too. They have the basic ones every sushi place has, but also has a lot of original Oita sushis, too. I love their authenticity and their clean taste. Their service is also great. Employees are really nice and friendly! On top of that, the restaurant is really clean, even their bathrooms are clean. Cute interior, too! Hope to visit again soon!
This is definitely the best sushi I have ever had. It is very apparent the heart and effort that goes into their work. Oita catered our wedding and the guests were delighted. Even those who hadnt tried sushi before became a big fan. Everything was fresh and presentation was exceptional. I will definitely go here my catering needs! And cant wait to get back there!
I was visiting new york for a business trip and found this place. it is very amazing. the sushi is so fresh and delicious. i love how decorative it is. it is very unique and tastes wonderful. i was very surprised when I ate there. the staff and service was great too. i highly recommend this sushi. it is extremely high quality and a great experience.i will always go back and eat here whenever i come to visit. i think about this place alot when Im away. cant wait to eat here again
This place is so cute! I love going here with my friends on the weekend after walking around Manhattan. The rolls are delicious and so different from other sushi restaurants. I personally like the fire roll and their sushi and sashimi platter. I dont know why but the rice they use is so good!!!! The fish isnt fishy at all either. It really melts in your mouth. The staff is friendly, and the place is busy!! I think this place is a hot spot in Manhattan. Small, but amazing quality.
When I lived in New York last year, I had many chances to have sushi from Oita Sushi. My friends and family circle really love Oita Sushi, so we had Oita Sushi cater food for many occasions. Their catering service is super amazing. The platters are arranged sooooo beautifully. The rolls are always so fresh and delicious. My favorite is Mommy Rose. The staff are very kind and cheerful.I cant wait to go back to New York to have sushi at Oita.
I went to NY for a conference recently and the meeting had Oita sushi cater lunch. I was amazed by how beautiful the tray looked. Initially I was attracted by the look, but when I tried, they tasted so fresh, healthy and delicious. They were so flavorful that I didnt even use any soy sauce.I have yet to try their menu at their location and Im keeping it on my list of places to go when I go back to NY next time.
I had heard about Oita Sushi through my friends in the area. At the time, I was planning for my best friends baby shower. I thought Oita might be a good place to cater food from as most of my friends are very healthy eaters.I went to the restaurant to try it out first. I was pleasantly surprised by how delicious the rolls were.I got a combination of sushi rolls and poke for the party. Everyone loved their salmon and tuna poke. Party was a success, part of it cuz of Oita.Very happy costumer. Thank you :)
Fresh and delicious -- We ordered a ton of food and enjoyed pretty much all of it. The sushi was sublime. The fish was firm and sweet and perfectly fresh. The spicy ramen is smoky and has a major kick to it, really perfect on a cold wet day. I was only so-so on the shrimp shumai but my companion adored them, and the shrimp tempura were delish. I did really love the gyoza. The seaweed salad was excellent. No comfortable seating, really just takeout unless youre young and healthy, but Id go back again and again.
I read other reviews after leaving MSK, wanting something different yet not super expensive or heavy, so I went to check it out. I was greeted nicely and squeezed at the end of the counter due to me using a walker to get around, I was given a menu and my place setting was made, I found what I wanted immediately and ordered, I was treated with respect and dignity, my order came fairly quickly and it looked awesome ! I had the 8 piece sushi and let me tell you, they were fresh and melt in my mouth (literally) delicious ! I was totally satisfied and my taste buds sang ! I am very happy I chose to go to such an extraordinary place to enjoy such wonderful culinary artistry ! Bravo to Oita Sushi and all the fine, talented and professional employees, You all made a somewhat difficult day turn very positive and I have a smile writing this, Your establishment deserves 10 stars ! Thank You, Crash.
I love this place so much!!!I never liked sushi before and used to think it tastes kind of bland. But the food they serve here totally changed my mind. Its so fresh and tasty and now sushi is one of my most favorite dishes. The only problem is once you try this place, you wont be satisfied with sushi you get in other places...
The catering presentation was beyond amazing! So much art and craftsmanship in every single bite. I ordered for my corporate events a few times and everyone enjoyed it so much EVERY TIME! The staff were kind and caring. They are reliable and expert in handling big events. Highly recommend!
When I take my vacation, I often visitOita Sushi Restaurant because the food is absolutely fantastic and prices are unbelievably lower than quality of food.👍Always entertaining with cheerful smiley faces and bright energy!Came up great cozy and sweet atmosphere, also very warmed friendly and wonderful staffs that make customers feeling very comfortable.😊I would highly recommend everyone to try all kinds of menus and order cathering for the events or party because they are amazingly delicious and the service is always fast and polite!Thank you very much Oita Sushi!!!❤️
I was so amazed from the catering platters when we had a party at work.My brother loves sushi so I brought him there and he said its even better than the sushi that he had in Japan. I normally prefer to eat meat than fish but this place changed my preference completely!
Adorable place. I was excited to find that there was a place called Oita Sushi in NYC, having visited Oita Prefecture earlier this year. Sadly, the owners and staff are Korean so I couldnt reminisce, but this review is about the food and service, not the owners origins. The staff is super nice and helpful. The complimentary water is lemon flavored, which was a nice surprise, and cut nicely through the fat of the sashimi. The lunch special came with a half serving of udon, which was the highlight of the meal. The side salad and other extras that came with the meal were not memorable and the sashimi was not particularly well prepared or flavorful. I know I shouldnt expect much from a takeout sushi place, but its clear the chef works hard at his job and it would be nice to see him do it with a finer cut of fish even if the prices went up a bit. The sashimi set, which promised 6 pieces, and yes, 6 were delivered, but it was only salmon and tuna, perhaps the two least interesting cuts of fish, though I suppose crowd favorites.I do want to go back and try the rolls. They looked really creative.Kampai!
I give Oita sushi 5 stars because really like this small sushi place in upper east manhattan. I went there first time just because it is closest to my work, then often get to treat myself a nice pack of sushi after work. The store is tiny, sometimes easily packed with people. Sometimes the service takes time as they get busy, it is still understandable since there were only 3-4 staff running the restaurant. The best part is the quality of sushi : they always keep it fresh, never disappointed me. Even heavy ingredients like shrimp tempura, their recipe makes it taste light. If you are tired of salmon or tuna, try yellowtail scallion or yellowtail basil, you will never fail.
Some of the best sushi Ive eaten! Oita Sushi is an intimate neighborhood sushi parlor with an amazing chef and dedicated and caring staff. We tried their Manhattan Combo with Udon and was pleasantly surprised by the texture of the chewy noodles and the crispness of their sushi rolls and salads. The spices give all the food a nice kick, but dont overpower the taste. The food here is super fresh (the salmon we had was bought that day and tasted delicious) and they buy organic food directly from local farms. Dont forget to try their yummy Triple Ceviche and Curry Udon!
Ive been a big fan of Oita Sushi for about 3 years now. I tried their sushi for the first time back in 2015 at a friends party. Im a foodie so I tried every single roll she had them catered. Each one of them tasted so delicious and fresh. Ever since, every time I go to NYC, I make sure to stop by Oita sushi.Highly recommended. I would give more stars if I could. :)
Its a very good sushi place, despite its size and missing a bathroom. It relies heavily on takeouts and deliveries, because there only 2 small tables for 2 each and another 3 to 4 people sushi bar.Quality for food is great! And the lunch special is actually really worth it.It includes 1 roll (I tried the shrimp tempura, and it was great!), a little bit seaweed salad, 1 piece of shumai, a side salad, a soup, small cup of udon.On top of the lunch special, we also ordered the yellowtail basil and its one of their signature rolls. The yellowtail inside was fresh and when eat it with the basil inside, its super refreshing. For me its the first time i had sushi with fresh basil inside.Waitress there was nice, and polite. The whole store wave you goodbye when leaving. Recommended.
This sushi place is one of my favorite place to get takeout for sushi. After work when I am tired and dont feel like cooking, I go to one of my favorite places to order sushi and take it home to eat. The sushi is always fresh and the fish is clean and tasty. The yellowtail roles are delicious. I also always order the spicy tuna rolls and shrimp tempura. Ive had the Udon noodles soup with a yummy tasting broth. The steamed pork gyozas are also delicious. You will be happy as they are really deliciously fresh, soft and flavorful. I have also been there for lunch and the lunch specials are really good deals. For about 13-15 dollars you can get several rolls, salad and kimchi and soup. Amazing deals. All in all, sushi is very, very good and the prices are phenomenal for the quality you get.
I love this place. I cannot believe how they make these harmonized fresh sushi. The ingredients are so fresh. It makes foods more tasty. When I eat yellowtail basil sushi, I cannot belive how they think and create this tempting harmonizing taste. Im almost space out to eat. Also I love curry udon. When I heard that they didnt put any seasoning, I cannot believe it. I heard that they just use natural ingredients, such as jujube, squash and so on for sweet taste. I wonder how they make profit to make foods with this way. Moreover, the look of sushi is kind of art. Especially for catering service, you will see how beautiful it is. When I get the catering plate, I usually feel that I just want to see and enjoy without touch. But my mouth and stomach cannot regret to taste it, so I always rush to eat.I definitely can recommand you this place to taste it. If someone knows the fresh taste of sushi and sashimi, she or he would understand what Im talking about.
I usually get togo sushi here and my favorites are salmon poke and fire roll. I ordered oita sushi’s catering for the first time for my daughter’s bday and our family really really loved it! It looked nice and taste good :) I would recommend to sushi lovers to order caterings!
The inside was rather small, with just two small tables by the entrance. Even though they had few counter seats by the sushi bar, there was no one sitting there to eat. It was more of a take out place from what I saw. There was only one female waitress and one guy behind the sushi counter. Of course there were more staff, back in the kitchen. They were talking in Korean, so I am not sure if this restaurant is owned by Japanese person, or it is more of a Korean establishment? But they were really nice and friendly.I saw they have a good lunch set, a Lunch Special that comes with choice of bento plus udon (half portion). We chose Sushi 5pc bento set, which comes with salad, pickle, and kimchi. It actually came with more than that. It also had seaweed salad and one shumai. The sushi was fresh and cut at nice thickness. And udon could be changed to Curry Udon with extra $2. It had fried tofu (abura age), broccoli, and big chunks of mushroom that were sliced really, really thick. The soup was ok, more watery than thick. An interesting part was that everything was served on plastic plate and paper bowl, and plastic utensils. I guess it is cheaper for them to do it this way? I am not sure... But it feels like it lower the atmosphere and value of the meal. They do not have public restroom, which is understandable with the place being so small. The lunch special was reasonable and freshness of the food and the number of offerings that comes with the special is great. Read my full review of this restaurant and food on my food blog, foodlovergirl.
This place, I walked by few times and small but had inviting feel to it, one day I decide to finally try it, even though the sushi n sashimi looked not much different than others I was pleasantly surprised it was tastier than most sushi Ive had, I mean I ve had a lot, i can tell when ingredient they used are fresh and high quality, I was very pleasantly surprised that they actually made a point to buy high quality ingredient ! I would def go back

2022-06-27Every roll was really good. I thought the price for the quality was great. The staff was attentive and kind. The setting is minimalistic and calming which allows the focus to be the sushi in front of you and the person across from you.

2022-05-07Im so happy to be here again! The quality consistency at this restaurant is amazing. The ingredients are always so fresh, the staff are always so friendly and attentive, the place is always so clean, and the interior design is so simple n elegant. It’s like dining in a gallery. They have a pretty extensive menu, so even if you’re not a sushi fan, you will have no problem finding plenty of delicious items to enjoy. Plus they have great selection of wine and sake!! I ordered fried calamari as appetizer and I was so impressed even a common menu item can be taken to another level! I’m sure you will be impressed too. I ordered sashimi dinner as my main course and I chose to have it all salmon. I have never tasted salmon this fresh, this sweet, and this flavorful. Hands down. It’s hard for me to go to another Japanese restaurants now because I have become so spoiled by the quality of the foods here!

2022-01-16Beautiful omakase experience. Sat at the sushi bar and had the loveliest time with Hiro’s beautifully curated sushi omakase. Incredible and thoughtful flavors brought together with gorgeous fresh fish from Japan, Tasmania, New Zealand, and a few from the US too. Such a special meal. Don’t be fooled by the fact that they offer takeout - dining in made me feel like I was in Tokyo all over again.

2022-04-30Ordered takeout hand rolls to eat in Prospect Park and it was delicious! Service was quick, the interior of the restaurant is beautiful and calming. The food was well packaged so that the rice doesn’t make the nori soggy. I’ll have to dine in next time!

2021-08-18The best lunch option in Park Slope, and there are lots of good options.🍱 The bento boxes are both excellent, and the perfect size for lunch.🍜 It’s rare to find a good Udon, and I love this one!🍣 The sashimi set is a lot more food than I thought, the salmon slices are quite big.🗽 I love the New York crunch roll, with spicy mayo and chips on top.

2021-10-06Flavorful sushi and beautiful and zen like interior. You order and pay on your phone after scanning the QR code. Staff is friendly and you will need your vaccine card. I highly coming here if you want to try less traditional sushi.
