Halloween fun! I was skeptical when my wife booked this and really didnt know what to expect but it turned out to be really cool outdoor Halloween fun. Its about a mile walk through the grounds of Old Bethpage Restoration. Relocated historical houses from around Long Island brought here for display. The rub here is that the entire path and houses are decorated with Halloween decorations and lighting making for a cool experience. Little pricey but in the end memorable.
Would have been nice to know that they need a print out of a supposed pass which says almost nothing. The place was dead , not a single soul but we with kids couldn’t go in because we didn’t print the pass. The pass says this is a pass for 4 people. No wonder places like that lose value year after year.
The displays were really cool especially the haunted lighthouse and eerie pumpkin carousel, but unfortunately this was all overshadowed by the fact that there was zero social distancing by the time you got to about the second pumpkin display. I wouldnt even blame the people, it was moreso just the linear setup and it was way too crowded for that space, and people were almost bumping into each other, let alone being 6 feet apart. We wound up in the overflow parking lot, so I really dont see how it couldve been reduced by 67% capacity. If youre looking for something safe to do during the pandemic, unfortunately this isnt it. I think this event wouldve been great if they had reduced crowd capacity further or even just increased the space.
Blaze at Old Bethpage was a GREAT experience. The layout is a wonderful stroll on a gravel pathway. Plenty of space and smaller crowd to help with Covid19 precautions. The artwork is awesome. From typical Jack O Lanterns to 20 ft tall Statues of Lady Liberty, Dinosaurs, spiderweb and more. Super cool for all ages. Its a wonderful display of creativity with PUMPKINS. I do miss the concession stands and gift shop; I wanted apple cider donuts and beer. Happy Harvest!
What a fantastic display! This is an incredible event that is enjoyable alone or with a group. It is a self guided walking tour of not only CJack OLanterns but pop culture AND Long Island history, something for everyone. Its not only pumpkins but lights, fog machines and music to produce r an atmosphere that is holiday appropriate but not scary, so small children can appreciate too. Long Island used to be full of fall/harvest festivals, pumpkins. Farms, hay rides, corn mazes and hauntedhouse attractions in almost every town, so with all those things going away (mostly due to law suits and high insurance rate) its nice to see these events occurring. Go,you wont be disappointed.
The Great Jack OLantern Blaze was great, first time in Long Island. Lots of free parking, restrooms on site. No food or drinks are available so bringa snack for the kids. Took us about 45 minutes to walk the whole thing with our kids. There is lots of room to maintain COVID precautions. It is a little dark after sunset but thats part of the magic - thousands of pumpkins lights and sounds. Walking the one way route is easy, I think strollers shouldnt have an issue. Tickets must be pre-ordered - we had a great time worth the ride and every penny!
Living history museums fascinate me if theyre done well. We had just over an hour to explore because we arrived so late, but I think we all learned so much about Long Island history by talking to the many historians working at the site. I definitely need to come back to give myself more time to explore, and the freedom to keep talking to the historians if the conversation is flowing.
Old Bethpage Village Restoration is a hidden gem on Long Island. There are about 10 different buildings from the 19th century, as well as a farm and old time base ball field. The staff and volunteers are great at describing each building and really making the history come alive. For example, some will sing, or play an instrument from the period. Its a great way to step back in time and away from the hustle and bustle of life today on Long Island. It is now open Friday through Sunday for the 2022 season.
This is a wonderfully run program! We visited on a gorgeous Sunday afternoon. We ended up spending 4 hours, but my 9 year old has said that the next time we need to arrive earlier. The staff was amazing. Incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. The tradespeople they have working there are talented and excellent at sharing their skills. The grounds are well laid out. The buildings are spaced out but there are lots of places to sit and rest as needed. Well definitely go back when were next in town.
Sadly my significant other and I drove from NJ with our 10 month old, and my 12 & 13 year old today, 12/21/21 only to find the event canceled sign out on the front of the main road…. I had called 2 weeks ago to confirm… called earlier in the day but didn’t get a response… figured they’d end this first run with a bang… I had come here before and loved it. If there was an update, I didn’t see it on website…I was planning on buying tickets at the door. Took off from work, drove 1.5 + hours in from NJ to try and catch the event… hope all is well… feel like I had all my eggs in one basket for the day… money is not the issue… wish I had saved the time off for a different day… I get very few days off this time of year.😕
Its just fine. Nothing extraordinary or no wow factor. Perhaps this place is good for kids only and not really for adults. The price is fine for kids who would really appreciate the lights but for someone like me whod been to so many places, then this place is like ahhh, its fine. They have portable toilet. The walk is not long. Theres no ride inside. No food or beverage for sale. I wish they have coffee for the cold weather. If you love lights then this place is a good place to visit. If you love something creepy then this place is not for you. No fear factor at all.
Old Bethpage Village Restoration has several structures that are preserved from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. In most buildings, there is a period- dressed person who will tell you about the history of the structure, when and where it is from, who lived or worked there, and what it was like back then. Upon entering the visitors center, visitors are provided with maps and can guide themselves from structure to structure. Most of the structures are houses, but there are also stores, an inn, a hatter, schoolhouse, blacksmith, and farm. One time I visited, the hatter was in and making hats, while during my most recent visit (a trip for my 4 th grade students), we were treated with a demonstration given by the blacksmith. It was fascinating. Old Bethpage Village Restoration also has an events calendar which is worth checking out.
I liked the place a lot so much to see and learn about a time when work was much harder but a lot less complicated, I went in Autumn and it was a very beautiful day. Children will love seeing how Children used to learn on a slate tablet, there are also horses in the village with a farm it’s been awhile since I been here and I would go again there are plenty of subjects to photograph.
Beautiful place with old houses brought to this open air museum from allover Long Island. It wasnt busy at all on a lovely weekend in early October. Very recommended, not expensive, and next to the Long Island Blaze show ($$$ and requires reservation in advance) and a military armor vehicle museum that looks promising too.
The whole Village is absolutely amazing. A pretty cool place to learned history about lives from 18th century. We love every houses, stores, barns and everything in the village. Everyone in the museums are very accommodating. I have to wear sneakers or comfortable shoes next time. Its a good walk. We will surely come back again and recommend this to all our friends and family.
The volunteers are very friendly and informative. Unfortunately not all of the buildings were open when we went today, and the upper levels in the houses are still closed off. On a positive note, the LI Fair will be held this year and the special events at Thanksgiving and Christmas are scheduled to take place.
The set up was really organized and well thought out with an explanation of almost all of the display. They limited the number of tickets to allow for social distancing but it was really up to the people to social distance. I thought there should have assigned people on different parts of the route to vocally remind guests to social distance and to have better control.I was a bit disappointed that majority of the displays where carved from plastic pumpkins. The Blaze exhibit Upstate for me seemed all real pumpkins and was 1/2 the ticket price. Make sure you bring your own warm drink or snack after because there was no place to buy a warm cider or coffee like the one Upstate.
This PLACE IS AMAZING! They teach you a lot about this place. I loved how nice they were and how they made the place so interesting. We explored the old school where the children of back then used to use. The place was really pretty! If you like historical sites then this is where you should go!
Went to the Pumpkin Blaze. It was a pleasant time. Too expensive though for a half hour walk. Had to spend most of our time dodging selfie crazed, non socially distant, suburban, packs of young adults. Not all of the displays were actual pumpkins. The sound and lighting were excellent. The hand carved pumpkins that WERE on display were fantastic. The larger things made out of pumpkins were disappointing.
Very well informed interesting staff / docents to tell you about the crafts and the times. Very open to questions and very prepared. ( do engage and ask questions if you want to get the most out of your visit ) Extremely educational.A nice setting for a walk. They are really doing a good job enforcing safety while operating during the pandemic. You MUST wear your mask even outdoors. They watch for and call out violations. Good job.
I would give a zero if I could. We get there and they won’t accept cash or credit you have to buy your tickets in advance, because of Covid of course. Then they don’t do a military discount well only for active duty so if you’ve been in two months you’re good but if you’ve served your country for 30 years and are retired too bad. Then she says they’re private property we have to wear masks and I said yes any building we go into we will put them on and she said no as soon as you’re on the property even if you’re walking outdoors away from anybody they want a mask. Sorry want to enjoy our fresh air so we left and went to a park.
Very disappointed. I haven’t been here in over 30 years. I remember they had people in customs walking about and even a horse and buggy riding through the town. It made you feel like you were back in the old days, but now all they had was. One person per house slightly dress up and rude. 4 out of 7 of the workers we spoke to looked angry and like they didn’t want to be there. Spoke to us like they didn’t want to be bothered. Will not bring my other grandkids here. Glad that the kids enjoyed the farm and the old furniture
Its really fun and interesting. Full of history and places to visit. You can watch reenactments of life from past times. I personally live the cooking demonstrations! There are very many events, such as Christmas events, dances, and the Long Island Fair is held there. Its a great place.
Very educational and a nice afternoon outside. You get to see how people in the area lived during the early colonial times. Also get a good sense of the early economy as several of the buildings also demonstrate how the owners earned a living. Great for anyone interested in early American architecture/building methods or history in general.
You get transported back in time and see how people used to live in authentic 1800s houses from around Long Island. They were transported there among other places such as barns and stores. My family enjoyed the fiddler in the schoolhouse and watching the sheep and goats on the farm. Definitely plan to spend at least 2 hours there because it takes a while to walk through the whole thing and stop to listen to all the interesting employees who tell you the whole story of that house.
My all time favorite place!! From the sights to the smells and everything in between. You really do step back in time. They have amazing staff who really get into character and they offer sooo many fun events. Their annual fall festival and Halloween nights are a blast!!
Such a cool place. Old ww2 tanks, cars, memoribilia etc. The guide who took us around really knew his stuff. The admission is free, but make sure to donate to the veterans fund on the way out as these brave men and women are the reason we are free today. Cool picture ops as well!
Really nice park. I went for the Armor show to see the tanks but i walked the property to see the houses as well. Great learning experience for children and adults and just a nice place to spend an afternoon. I always remember the soda at the bar because ive loved the birch beer since i was a kid.
Ive been here for a field trip and it was nice. They offer you root beer in one of the buildings. One of them have root beer candy. When I came during the fall, it was suppose to be open. But, its close and it has caution tape on the doors. Next time, they should say its closed or open.
Dont go here.Id went today on the trip at OBVR and it was horrible. Id also accidentally had my leg cramp during my trip. The houses smelled like smoke in my country, the fairgrounds smelled like farm animal dookie, and worst of all, dirty sheep and painful cows. I would never coming back here again. There are better Long Island museums to choose from, but Cradle of Aviation was 10x better.
I came here for the haunted house. The village itself is absolutely stunning and the history behind it is amazing. Being there at night time gave it a very spooky vibe. The acting was great, but it was not scary. I was disappointed that they were on skits and not walk threws. The skits were creepy at best just not what I was expecting.
Its a surprisingly cool, useful, informative historical place in the middle of suburbia. It seemed a bit barren when I went on an off-peak day with bad weather, but the staff were still friendly and welcoming nonetheless. Worth a visit, especially if you have little kids with you.
I encourage any and everyone to visit, especially if you have little ones! I came here with my 4th grade class about 9 years ago and I was very fascinated and enthused about everything I seen. Its interesting how they conserved this very vast portion of land for future generations to see how people lived back in the 19th and early to mid- 20th centuries. Some things have been slightly modified due to deterioration, but most structures are original. The scenery is great, and youll have an instructor at every site (dressed very old fashion) expound upon what that location was used for. I hope you enjoy, and tell them I sent you!-Jeremiah❤
The December Candlelight Evenings are one of my favorite holiday activities - singing, dancing, reading, bonfires, horns, strings, popcorn, cocoa, candlelit walks down acres of quiet, unpaved roads. Santas here too, the actual one. Theres no place like this on LI, especially for families - peaceful, inexpensive and authentic, free of cars and phones and ads and excess. Learn something from the dedicated and knowledgeable volunteers that run it.
Living history.I was in there for an event commemorating the American revolution when Long island was occupied by the British.I was part of the Huntington militia and the 3rd New York regiment, which were portraying the American forces which raided Long Island several times during the British occupation. 1776-178?
Although the authentic building are a fascinating look into how different lives were not long ago, its the people who bring them to life. Everything from black smithing to baseball, from general stores to millinery (hat makers). Also, events like The Long Island Fair are held there, and 2018 was the 176th year. Thousands of judged/prize winning crafts shown from baked goods, sewn work, paintings, photography etc.Do not miss their Holiday guided candle light tour as it is truly wonderful.
Very disappointing! They spoiled my sons wedding plans. They told him they would reserve the date and then some deep pocketed Mangano supporter allowed a caterer to steal the date right from under him.Politics at their worst.I have been an Old Bethpage resident for all my life only to see the powerful and rich take advantage time and time again.I say sell the land and build something else there. Now we have to quickly find alternative plans. No one at the restoration village will even look into the matter. This is just horrible!!
Beautiful please shows the old west like you’re on a Hollywood movie screen the people dressed in character intrigued to buy stuff when you’re there instead of money they give you tokens of Seawood and you treat that for candy while you’re in the park absolutely beautiful Gosey.Anthony from New York
Although the schedule of events posted on the OBVR website 7/16/17 listed the Long Island Riders starting at 11 am the OBVR did not open until noon. Numerous families were turned away with no indication that the staff had any qualms about the mistake other than a hastily printed notice on the door that the OBRV opened at noon.

2021-09-11I have been going there for many years, enjoying the many activities there. The sheepsheering, and arts and crafts, and winter barn dances.❤🤠😍 It has been a few years but I finally made it to their Long Island fair, I went w friends and my favorite part was all the animals. I grew up around dogs, cats and chickens. But my favorite 4 legged friend has always been the horse!❤🤠😃There was the usual food staple, chicken, hot dogs and hamburgers w drinks. But there was a variety of horse shows and a good show and music from the past. I look forward to next year❤😍

2021-09-28The village is absolutely delightful! Incredibly scenic! It really immerses you in the time and the history of the area to be in a place like this in a way that isn’t possible at a normal museum! All of the historically clad historians and workers at each location in the village were delightful and were willing to answer my many MANY historical questions. They talked extensively about the different places and made the interactions not just informative but an actual pleasure! I also very much liked being able to meet all the farm animals, whom I was told are official ‘county employees’, and the hat shop, which has some truly spectacular and incredibly well made hats! They are sturdy but still fashionable looking in a timeless way that you can still wear for current fashion!

2021-10-09Came here for the Great Jack OLantern Blaze and were very impressed!!The event itself, magnificent, of course. True artsmanship!!! But the staff here have this down like a well oiled machine. From parking to merchandise and everyone on the paths - AWESOME!!The paths are easy and accessible for strollers and wheelchairs - paths are not paved, so bear in mind that means dips and grooves in the ground as you walk, wheel or stroll. It is incredibly helpful that tripods are not allowed, so the flow is nice and smooth.

2022-04-22After not being at the Village restoration since I was a kid I was very excited to experience the park once more with the kids I babysit, upon arrival we had park passes from the Massapequa Public library that their mom downloaded. Because their mom wasn’t there with the license, they would not let us in to the park, (even if I had a photo of her license). The workers was extremely nasty and unwelcoming. The blonde manager was ESPECIALLY rude to the mother on the phone, and disappointed two kids that were super excited to go into the park. This is a silly rule and they should’ve been accommodating. I’m incredibly disappointed and will not be returning.
