Everytime I come back to NYC I look forward to stocking up on ballet gear at On Stage! Large range of leotards, accessories and shoes/pointe shoes and the most talented staff to identify what you need. Shout-out to Jordan who assisted with the fitting session for the first pair of pointe shoes I got this trip (picked up some tips while he fitted another adult ballet student) as well as helped guide me towards a new/more suitable pair of soft shoes. Hes also an incredible stretch and ballet technique teacher - glad to have met him at On Stage. Also want to mention Kat, who fitted me on Russian Pointes a few years back. She recommended Virtisse pointe shoes to me this time, while allowing me to try out other brands/models for comparison. I loved the Virtisse, cant wait to start dancing in them! Appreciate her expertise and patience.Great experience overall!
Fantastic little shop packed full of beautiful things of all sizes! We came here to get a gift for my daughter’s friend and we left with an adorable little outfit plus a skirt for my daughter. It’s definitely a place we will return to. The staff is eager and attentive and knows how to help immediately! We almost never shop in stores, but this place is worth an in-person visit. It’s reasonably and fairly priced as well, so you’re definitely benefiting from physically going into this establishment. We will be back!
My partner had a terrible experience asking about shoes. The lady in the back was very persistent on letting her leave as quickly as she can. She was awfully rude and there was a lot of push back from her when my partner asked to try one pair of shoes. Please teach your employees about valuing customers first before putting them in charge of the reputation of your store.
They ask for a review for a discount which I did… so I wouldn’t believe so much of these reviews. I wouldn’t recommend it here for dance clothes. The staff weren’t that helpful, just standing around and talking. Stuff is pretty pricy, your better off going online. I was in a desperate need of some leotards and shoes. But I asked another dancer who’s very established and she gave me the name of these online establishments:Discount danceDance wear solutions.comPumpers.comHope those options help in lieu of this store. Avoid here if you can
Came in from LI to get fitted for pointe shoes today, and it was 100% worth it. We had an appointment set up and Jordyn helped us. We walked in and he was ready on time, he explained the whole process, built my daughters confidence, gave her tips of the trade and understood all the nuances of fitting her for her first pointe shoes to make them comfortable. We may have tried 9 shoes before finding the right ones, but never once did Jordyn rush us or treat my daughter like this was anything other than the right way to patiently fit a slipper. After we stayed 30 more minutes trying on leos, while they helped us find sizes and fits within her desires. To say it was a pleasant experience is an understatement. The whole train ride home, all my daughter could talk about was how nice they all were.
Beware shady business practices. Ordered shoes 6 months ago. At 2 months was told they werent in yet. At 4 months they were still on hold but was given the run around to even get that info. At 6 months they are trying to say the shoes were picked up. No refund or credit to my account
OnStage Dancewear is the top dance store in NYC. Almost all of the dancers I know including students from my school come to Onstage to get pointe shoes, tights, warm ups and hope to find leotards of all different kinds and colors on sale. They have many different brands of dancewear, all of wonderful quality, including the pointe shoes brands Gaynor Minden and Merlet (a French shoe maker rare to find in the city!). The staff is extremely helpful and dedicated to make shopping experience positive. I highly recommend this store to dancers and others passionate about dance.
If you want the best selection of dancewear in NYC, this is the place to come to. If you are looking for the best and most professional pointe shoe fittings, this is the only place to be. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, service is impeccable. You won’t find the selection of dance gear like this anywhere else in the city.
This place is a fun place to shop for dance wear. Very helpful sales staff. Lots of selections too. Happy shopping and keep on dancing!3/18/2022Went to shop at this store again. I didn’t need much helped because I know what to buy. However, I was very impressed listening to the sales ladies helping other shoppers. They are very knowledgeable on fb their product.
Been coming here for years and years! Ronnie is a gem for our city stocking the best in dance wear, plus! I buy different style leotards here several times a year for regular day wear, bathing suits for summer. Need to be sure and support small businesses like this in our beloved city - these are what make NYC special!
I started shopping at On Stage in 2008. I am beyond thrilled that the pandemic didnt close this particular small business forever. I happened to be in the neighborhood yesterday and hoped that it would still be there, and thankfully it is! Ronnie is the best. Hands down. He and his staff are so knowledgeable and helpful. If you need any kind of dancewear, just go to On Stage. Everything you may need, hes got. Even if youre not a dancer yourself, hes got gifts for the dancer(s) in your life. Trust me, give On Stage a visit.
I was very pleased with the service at this store. I looked at many shoes and The sales person was kind and answered my questions. Prices were the same as from the original manufacturers of the product so I dont have to shop around which is great. Will definitely return for future purchases!
It is a super small store - you might miss it if you walk up the block too fast! But the staff is very nice and helpful! Most importantly, they sell items from all major dance brands so if you dont have a preferred brand yet, its good to go there because they can help you find your perfect fit.
It was superb being at the on stage dance store.... Great stuff for male dancers ... Ronny at the the store was super helpful .. I came to buy one Jazz pant and went back with six Of them.. Two shoes and even A body suit... I so loon forward to coimg back to this store during my next visit to NYC.
I love this place! They have so much stuff in such a tiny place and the staff is very friendly. A girl named Laura helped me find ballet shoes better than I could have imagined. She was very patient and energetic. I will definitely come back here for future dance needs!
What a great store!!! There is a ton of merchandise all around you when you walk in the door. Also a lot of help in the store which was great for me because I need it. I got everything I needed for my new dance class and I learned a lot between the different styles of merchandise. The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. This is the place to go for your dance apparel.
I had such a wonderful time at this gem of a dance store. The staff were absolutely incredible: super knowledgeable, helpful, patient, personable (huge shout-out to Kat! [Cat? Sp?]). Every single person was eager to help (and in a non-abtrusive way, which is just awesome), and they even took the time to answer questions I had about reputable classes to take in the city. When they didn’t have my size in dance sneaker, they offered to call me as soon as they came in, which was much appreciated. My only wish would be for a larger selection of men’s dancewear (they carry an impressive number of brands throughout the store, which is fantastic, but the overall number of men’s pieces was limited). It’s not uncommon for men’s selections to be limited like that, but I can guarantee we’d collectively appreciate more options than the traditional white shirt and black tights. That coupled with the amazing staff would make this store THE ideal spot.Thank you everyone at On Stage Dancewear once again for being so special and putting my mood on the right track!
A really excellent store with a wide variety of choices and extremely knowledgeable, helpful and friendly staff. There are always various discounts to be had and youll find what you need and more, in all styles and brands. The preferred dance store in Manhattan if you asked me!
Staff was knowledgable and helpful. They were able to work with my budget and helped me select a quality pair of practice shoes that would do what I needed them to do. Space is very tight inside, and it can get a little hectic, but they pack a surprising amount of inventory in there.
This place is great! From the outside, it looks pretty small. But looks can be deceiving... I walked in not too long before they closed and was pleased to see there was a ton of employees there to assist. I think there were 4-5. Impressive! Everything was clustered by color and type (long sleeved leotard, short-sleeved, etc.) and the employees were very knowledgeable and helpful. Highly recommend! Just wish the sale section was larger (as is always the case...)
Great selection of pointe shoes and the store was very organized and clean. Easy to find what you need. But the best part was the amazing staff and Kat in particular! Her knowledge on the subject was impressive and I really felt the whole team was committed to helping me find the best pair of shoes for my feet. I would 110% recommend you go here for a pointe shoe fitting!
I come to On Stage for a lot of my dance wear. Everytime I visit, I am left completely satisfied. The customer service is stellar, especially Kat! She is patient and ensures that you get exactly what you need without rushing you out of the store. I recommend this location for all dance wear needs and make sure you ask for Kat!
I love this place this is the only place in New York City where I can actually go and get Bloch ballet shoes and Bloch is what I wear and theres no other place I can go and get great stuff at great prices to and then even give you a discount if your student onstage rocks!!!!!
Excellent place for newbies to buy dance shoes. Arial picked the perfect pair of ballet shoes for me with just one look at my feet! It was incredible. They have a good selection of brands to fit all different feet. I highly recommend this place if youre looking for the perfect fit!
I came in to find some mens dancewear (something that is surprisingly sparse in NYC), and was pleasantly surprised! Not only were the staff friendly and really helpful, I had a number of options with shirts and shoes (which is what I was looking for). They even offered to order a size in when they didnt have it in the store. I cannot get over how knowledgable the staff were, and clearly working together to make sure their customers were leaving happy. This is my first time shopping here, but it wont be the last!
Love the staff. Visited the store to have my daughter do a fitting for pointe shoes. Cat is a gem;. very detailed, professional and experienced. She made our experience so pleasant. She is so awesome. Especially, since we travelled from the Caribbean and were unsure where to go. I highly recommend On Stage Dancewear.Michelle E - Barbados
This is the best dance store in NYC! I found everything I need for my big audition and more! They have more brands that I can remember, a huge inventory, and everything from leotards to wellness items.Their staff is super sweet, really helpful and very knowledgable with what I needed. Hands down my favorite place to shop! Very satisfied customer and highly recommended!
Jessie is AMAZING! She was super patient with me and although my feet are hard to find the right pointe shoes for, she made it! My teacher recommended her to me and I am so so glad I went there to have a fitting with her. I was coming from a completely wrong pointe shoes fitting experience and I was so worried about everything, but she was really really nice and helpful. Totally recommended!
Great experience, great selections. Arial was extremely helpful on the phone and Itzee guided me to my new Bloch tap shoes, the best out there. Extreme patience while I made my decisions. So nice to patronize a family owned business. I’ll be back. Thank you so much!!
Amazing and friendly service. I had purchased a gift certificate for my gf to pick up a pair of professional dance shoes. When she came in she found her feet to be between sizes and was suggested to pick the smaller pair for utility purposes (as the fit for such shoes is hugely important). She took a class and realized that the shoes were way to small. I came back and explained the situation and that I had lost the box in the move but had the online receipt. The friendly manager there, Ronnie, was very sympathetic and made the exchange quick and painless. Again wonderful customer service.
I went to the store to get my little princess her first pointe shoes and I was so amazed how friendly everyone was but most of all the attention they gave my daughter. CANDY IS THE BEST SHE TOOK HER TIME WITH MY DAUGHTER . I NEVER WENT INTO A STORE AND RECEIVED THE ATTENTION CANDY GAVE US . CANDY THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HELP!!! YOU ARE THE BEST!
This little place has more merchandise than you could imagine for such a small space! As a dancer in NYC, this is the first place I think of when I need anything dance related... leotards, shoes, costume pieces to complete a look, etc. I needed some white briefs for a costume, and they actually had a couple of choices for me (different brands & fabrics). With so many great things in this store, I was wishing I had an excuse to buy more! Everything is displayed nicely, you are greeted by a friendly employee, and prices are average (but they have discounts for various dance studios around the city.) A nice experience! Would definitely go again.
Im not even a dancer (though I am in the theatre), but I always stop by On Stage when Im in the neighborhood, as I love their skirts - I own several mid-calf to ankle-length skirts Ive bought there - soft, flowing and very flattering. I have them in black, dark blue and brown.
Wonderful store! Lots of product and options. I believe Ezra helped us today, and he took great care of all the tap shoe dramatics. I ended up with great shoes (jazz and tap) at a great price, along with some other nice findsz. The sale rack had some great clothes, too!I’m a Dance professional and teacher and therefore I really need good shoes for the right price.I would definitely recommend 10/10
LOVE LOVE this place. I had a really nice fitter, I dont remember her name but she was Australian. We worked for almost an hour and we found my perfect shoe and I go back there to get my pointe shoes everytime I need a new pair. They also have great recommendations for leotards, accessories, and other dance things. Picked up a bunch of tips on how to extend my pointe shoe lives there and it really works! They also have a phone order service that is super handy when you dont have time to go to the actual store
Quite a busy place with lots of products to choose from but the space is tight so everyone is bumping into each other. The checkout process is not efficient, theyre still doing carbon paper receipts. Im sure they can afford to upgrade their system and process customers quickly. But you get what you want so happy shopping!
I ordered from them online for an audition. The order took almost a month and it looked nothing like thr sketches and did not fit according to the size chart.i paid close to $100 for the outfit I couldnt wear and had to buy a new one the week of my audition.when I contacted them for a refund they agreed however after sending it back I recieved no refund and now my emails go unanswered.so I paid $100 and have nothing for it
I feel I could travel the world and find no finer a serves. I traveled from Scotland and was very thrilled with the attention my feet received. They produced shoe after shoe to find the right fit. They insisted on no less. They told me several times to stop apologizing for all the work I was putting them to. Not easy when you are a UK 8, Euro 42, American 10/11.Their service was not with a sale primarily in view, it was to get a pair of shoes that I was COMPLETELY happy with. The service was something you imagine from a past era. It was the level of service you would wish if you were taking your child for their very first pair of walking shoes.Their stock is not massive but they kept producing shoes that were not on display based on listening to me.Would I go back YES. Next January 2nd 2016 I will return. I will not buy anywhere in between times thats how good they were. There shoes were much less than we would pay in the UK which was a bonus point in my view. The small front store is easy to find. They are one of the few long standing stores left in the ever changing commercial Manhattan scene. I hope they can withstand the trend of people wanting quantity and not quality Louise
We came to NYC for my daughter to have a proper fitting and wow, totally worth the trip. Staff, especially Kat, is amazing. Kat is a pro, patient, and spent over an hour and more than 20 pairs of shoes to ensure we found the ones. I highly recommend On Stage and my new favorite reason to come to NYC.
Went here after a bad experience at Sans*a. My goodness, the staff (she was a wonderful Australian lady) was SO incredibly kind, patient, helpful, and I got the best deal for my character shoes. The lady was so kind to also recommend me great places for drama references. My experience here totally made my day, and probably also my week.
Ive found all kinds of leotards, pointe shoes, Ballet slippers, and ballet clothes! You find everything you need and much more! The staff is amazing, I was treated so well, they were very kind and helpful! I got out of there really happy Ive found pointe shoes that were exactly perfect for my feet, the way I was treated and for the unique stuff Ive got! I strongly recommend this ballet dance wear!! I will come back for sure!
Ive never danced in my life, and I signed up for tap dancing lessons and needed shoes. This place is relatively close to my apartment, and it looked like they had a decent selection. I was immediately greeted by Arial (yes, spelled like the font). She understood that I was a novice, asked about my feet, and strongly suggested a certain pair of tap shoes. The first pair fit very nicely, and Arial suggested I might try a half size down just to be sure, which fit even better. Never have I walked into a store knowing absolutely nothing about the product, and left shortly later with something that completely met my needs. Highly recommend On Stage.
On Stage Dancewear is right in my neighborhood but I never checked them out before. Never knew this tiny storefront had so many shoes in stock to offer. I needed a pair of dance shoes so I thought Id check them out. I was approached by Arial Stafford who made my hunt for dance shoes delightful. She knew which would be the best fit for me and was so attentive to my needs.
When my daughter first started pointe, I took her there. The lady that helped us (cat). She helped my daughter find the perfect brand for her. They even have a ballet bar to help they dancer learn how to go on pointe and how the shoe feels on the dancers feet. I told my daughters dance company and from now on, they send first time students to on stage.
Three stars for the great selection of leotards. Prices are on the higher end and offers no discount whatsoever to city dance schools. Junior staff were very friendly. Two stars off are for the very rude attitude of the old lady who works there. She has a lot of attitude and just ignored clients who needed help. She needs to learn how to talk to customers and gives good customer service. Im not sure why she acted so pissed when people are giving her business.
I wasn't impressed at all! The store is cramped and crowed. When I walked in I was bombarded with help but when I needed it the girl that was helping me was not so friendly. I felt as I intrupted her snack break. They didnt have what I needed and they do notfor give discount to all dance teachers or schools like other dance shops. Only those in Manhattan. I rather order from online!
I have been coming to On Stage Dance Wear since I can remember for all of my dance needs. They have superior customer service that beats all of the flagship dance stores in nyc and surpasses many stores in general. They are a great place to buy almost anything that is related to dancing from cute water bottles to tap shoes. If you have a steps on Broadway card, you get 15% off of your purchase! When abroad, I order from on stage dance wear and have it shipped, their prices are that good. I will continue to come here for all of my dance needs as long as I continue to dance! Thank you onstage dance wear!
I recently ordered a pair of Bloch Jason Samuels Smith tap shoes in white from this store, and to my surprise when they arrived in the mail, the shoes were not brand new as advertised on the website, but slightly worn, probably once or twice. I immediately noticed the wrinkles in the white leather and a few light scuffs. However, I was satisfied with the decent discount ($159.95, which is over $30 below retail) and I was happy to find these in my size because Bloch is completely sold out of sizes 5 through 9.5. They were also shipped very quickly. All in all, I am happy with my shoes considering the price I got them at, but I just wish I had known prior to buying them that they were slightly used. Neither the website nor the salesperson I spoke to on the phone let me know this information.
My tap teacher suggested I come to the store to buy new shoes because they’re the only store in the city that sells multiple brands of tap shoes and they are nice - she really stressed this last part. And she was right! Arial took the time to walk me through different styles of shoes and different fits and I even bought a pair of ballroom dance shoes as well. I would highly recommend On Stage Dancewear if you’re in the market for shoes or other dance items.
Out of all of the dance stores in NYC, On Stage Dancewear continues to provide items only available there. I wear a specific brand of ballet shoes, SoDanca, and only On Stage carries them. The employees are friendly and are know their products. I would recommend all to visit OnStage.
All family-owned dance stores in NY should get 5 stars. 1) for knowledge, 2) for well-stocked with the things dancers need, 3) for having a discount program, 4) for taking the time and energy to serve you, order what they dont have, and a smile, and 5) for no brand allegiance-just great service and experience.
I spent $77 in this store on ballet slippers and accessories. I wanted to also purchase pointe shoes and was told that there is a $15 charge for fitting if I choose NOT to purchase the pointes. If I do purchase than said $15 charge is waived. No where in the store is there a sign showing this policy nor do I see it on your website. It said that I would go elsewhere for pointes and it really made me not want to spend ANY of my money here. I will avoid this over-priced, made up policy for a buck shop in the future.

2022-09-12First time here, they were super attentive to the full list of things we needed to get my daughter set up for her first ballet classes. Their selection seemed wide with lots of basics, solids, as well as some lovely colors and patterns and specialty options at a variety of price points. We will definitely be back! 🎉

2022-06-22As a ballet lover with a long and slim torso, I struggle a lot to find leotards that suit me. Today a girl from this store (regret not to ask her name) helped me find exactly what I want! Even after I felt we’ve tried hard enough to pick leotards, she kept looking for a better option and the last one she brought me was just perfect! It was so comfortable and still shows off my waist, with the elegant purplish grey color…I’m so happy and grateful. And the price was half of what I expected from that brand…can’t believe it. Definitely the best dance supply store ever :)

2022-05-13I made a review a few weeks ago which they DELETED but here it goes again, it’s shady to ask for discount reviews and delete the ones that don’t make you look good. When I walked into the store there were like 4 people working and they stood there looking at each other and laughing like nobody wanted to come and help. A nice lady ended up helping me get the shoes that I needed. After that I decided to stay a little longer and look around to see what they had on their racks until I heard this person complain about the phone ringing saying in front of all the costumers there “why do people keep calling? With so much going on in the world they don’t need more dance stuff, trust me” the vibe was weird, the workers looked annoyed at the costumers. It’s sad because I used to love this store.

2022-05-02This is a great store! Its the only place in NYC where you can get all the brands in one place. The prices are fair, the selection is ample, and as the only remaining independent dance store in the city, I loved shopping here. Super pumped to rock my new skirt in class!

2022-07-07Fitters are fantastic and the fitter really know what they are talking about. Great Place to get pointe shoes. They also have a wide variety of leotards, skirts, warms ups, etc.
