Ophthalmic Consultants of the Capital Region in other cities:
I ordered glasses and contacts from the schenectady office and it was such an ordeal. They charge a fitting fee of $75 for the contacts which I literally walked in and picked up the box of contacts and left. There was no fitting performed, when disputed they say they always charge a fitting fee when you buy contacts. On top of that, They “lost” the frames I picked out and it took 3 months for me to receive a pair (I had to pick out new frames and refunds are not something they do). I was informed this happens “quite a bit”. I highly suggest buying glasses and contacts else where. The two times I went in just to pick up my frames and contacts it took quite a bit of time to get into the optician’s office. You need to call from the hallway to let them know you’re there so they can come out to take your temperature. They then walk you down the hall to pickup your items. They do not communicate well between offices and ends in a long wait time for something that should only take 5 minutes. While waiting for a temperature check, three techs walked by me and did not say a word or ask if I was being helped. I will not be going back to this office.
Had an eye injury on Sunday. With Schodack office closed I ended up driving with excruciating eye pain to their Schenectady office. Upon arrival I signed in and provided my vision insurance information. During the first 2 minutes of my appointment one of the employees came up and said that my insurance is not accepted and that it would be $300 just for the appointment which does not include tests. I ended up leaving and called a different optician which within few sentences after greeting mentioned that they do not accept vision insurance but do accept health insurance. I called Ophthalmic once again and asked if they accept CDPHP to which I got a “Yes”. I explained my situation from hour prior and asked the receptionist to let her associates know to not just say “your insurance is not accepted” but ask if the patient has a health insurance they can use instead. This would of saved me from driving with a painful eye injury to another office. On top of this the person on the phone did not sound sorry or appreciated the comment I made about the improvement.Other than the poor execution of previously mentioned interaction everything else seemed good. The people at the office itself were friendly and place appeared to be clean and well staffed.
I went to the Albany location yesterday. The Tech doing my intake was so unprofessional and NOT taking any covid precautions. I did not feel safe. She did not wipe down anything I touched and placed the eye cover that I had just held up to my eyes on top of the tissue box in the room. There was no hand sanitizer available in the rooms. She did not sterilize her hands or where gloves when putting eye drops in my eyes. She also kept commenting that I was too young to have an autoimmune disease that I have been battling for years. She was so disrespectful and kept asking me why I was there to see the doctor. Each time I told her she said she didnt understand why I was there. The Dr. Was very kind but kept touching the outside of his mask and pulling it open to take a deep breathe. They didnt dilate my eyes for some reason but told me they would at the next visit. This seems like a pattern at this practice to get an additional copay. I will not be back.
This place was so horrible at good customer service that it has encouraged me to write a review. I have them several opportunities to fix it before I went to writing about it. My entire experience was horrible. I went here based off what seemed like “good” reviews that this place had and I have to say they are completely inaccurate to the experience I had recently. Some of their staff is extremely rude and unfriendly. It took me two hours from start to finish to even see a doctor, who then informed me some of the tests the nurse had just done were wrong and had to do some of my tests over again. Then, after that they tried to get me to come in for a second visit claiming my insurance company wasn’t going to pay for my appointment if I didn’t because I refused one of their tests they didn’t inform me of until two days before my appointment, which I couldn’t do because I can’t drive afterwards. They also over charged me on my copay and refused to give me my money back until the insurance company paid my bill. One of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had in my life. All around this place is horrible and I recommend going anywhere other than here!
My first visit in 2017 was perfect. This year, not so much. I work full-time so getting time off for an appt is not easy. I had my appointment in June 2018 and optometrist wasted my time. She was too busy to call my insurance yet, she had plenty of time to call the other two offices for an IDEA of how my coverage worked. Then called me the next morning with a voicemail. I HAVE NO WAY OF TAKING OFF MORE TIME TO GET MY GLASSES. I was only able to take time off FOR THAT DAY and I walked out without even filling my Rx. The manager hardly let me speak until I said she was rude while I tried to explain my problem, she kept trying tell me about policies THAT I KNOW ABOUT. I started to say I know you cant email it but and she immediately chimed in we cant email it. As I stated, I KNOW! So now Im finally getting my Rx MAILED to me. My visit was terrible, thats the nicest thing I can say.
Everyone I interacted with was very nice. I was especially impressed with the technicians who seemed very skilled. Ive had two appointments there and one took 2 hours and 14 minutes, the second took 2 hours and 25 minutes. Only one appointment included eye dilation, which takes about 20 minutes, so we can subtract that time. The signage in the office seems to indicate this 2 hour wait is relatively standard for their office, and the industry. My experience is this is not industry standard at all, my yearly exams at another office take just over an hour, not almost 3 hours! Although the equipment was consistently cleaned in front of me, not one of the care team visibly washed or sanitized their hands, not a single time, including the doctor who everted my eyelid. I interacted with 3-4 techs at each visit and the doctor and no one utilized the available sanitizer in the exam rooms. I expect my healthcare providers to have clean hands, especially when handling my eye. My time spent with the doctor was under 5 minutes both times and neither doctor asked if I had questions or concerns. Overall, I wasnt impressed. They have a very elaborate system at play that seems to work for seeing a very large volume of patients, charting and coding accordingly, but ultimately I didnt think the wait was worth the type of care I received, at least from the doctors.
Dr Contractor is very nice and very thorough. She also put my mind at ease by giving me a second opinion regarding 2 surgeries that were recommended by another eye doctor, advising me that they are not necessary. The office staff and technicians are also very nice and helpful.
Everyone I came in contact with was very caring, professional, and conscious of the possiblity of covid.Dr Archibold explained everything thoroughly, even anticipating questions like what if..... .She gave me a sample of eye drops to try and what we would do if those didnt work.Joanne Richmond
I like Dr. Rabady very much. He explained the situation to me and was very professional. I trusted him. The only issue was that the first assistant I worked with was supposed to dilate my eyes and she did not. Dr. Rabady came in to examine me and was surprised to find that I was not dilated. So, it took extra time to then dilate me, so that he could examine me. But, all in all, it was a good experience.
I have been going to Vision Care Associates since I was a child and saw Dr. Arthur Lobel before his son took over, and now I see Dr. Steve. I have a real calmness about going there because I am so familiar with them and their office. I have a really good relationship with them and wouldnt even think about going anywhere else.
Even though I am not a patient, I called and ask them if they could just put my lens back in my frames and they were more than happy to be of service to me. With a lot of places you have to be a patient in order to get something small like my situation fixed. So I just want to say thank you!!!! 😀😀😀😀😀
They have their patients wait for up to a hour!! Waiting room is packed always. Just another business that schedules a lot of appointments to collect people’s money. Nobody wants to schedule a appointment a month ahead of time to get to their appointment and have to watch a hour worth of news.
Didn’t wait long for my first visit as some reviews said, but I was a first time customer I explained in extensive details to the doctor my eye history showed him my latest prescription asked him not to change it then asked him again at the end of the appointment if he had made any changes he assured me he hadn’t made any drastic changes I go to pay for my prescription and the optical department hasn’t received my prescription from the dr but I was confident based on his word that my prescription hadn’t been altered but had to wait a couple days to pay. Tina in the optical department took my details for my insurance and copays but I was still unsure for some reason so I called Tina first thing in the morning and left her a message telling her I wanted to get a second opinion she never called me back and charged my card anyway after telling me she would confirm with me before doing so I had to file a complaint with my bank and my insurance to have the charges reversed after my second opinion I finally see that the original doctor altered my prescription drastically and my second opinion was much closer to my original prescription after 3 visits to the office and several phone calls over a month later I still don’t have my glasses two stars for the original visit because the tech and the receptionists were nice and professional
Had an awful experience at my last optometrist he would misdiagnose and id end up dealing with basic issues for 2 plus weeks when they couldve been dealt with in days i finally checked out this office instead and what a difference great enviroment amazing people quick results and even if you dont have insurance one of the best out of pocket places ive dealt with highly reccomend for anyone that needs an eye doctor

2022-03-29I had an appointment at 2pm- didnt see a tech until 2:40 who was fine. He could have been a little more pleasant but he may have been new- at least he seemed a little scattered as to the flow of the evaluation process. More waiting then 5 minutes with the doctor. In the second waiting room, other patients were complaining of having been there for longer than I had. I ended up being there for two hours from check-in to check-out. I think it would benefit everyone- employee to customer- if they relived their schedules a bit. Older reviews say the same thing about wait times so its clearly a long standing issue that has yet to be resolved.

2021-12-03I never leave reviews but this was the worst doctors appointment I’ve ever had. Waited for almost 2 hours for my appointment along with many others. Felt a little sketchy because were still in a pandemic. And it was very crowded. The doctor was nice but I waited even longer and it was rushed. It was so busy they had me leave without any follow up and when I called back and asked about my prescription days later the receptionist hung up on me as I was asking if they had the right pharmacy for me. I went to my pharmacy and they never called it in. Feeling defeated, I think I’m done for awhile.

2022-03-17Had an appointment in November 2019, it was billed incorrectly to the wrong insurance company. Called the office to tell them and they didn’t fix it. Fast forward to December 2020 I get billed again for this visit. Called to explain they billed it incorrectly and I wasn’t paying it as I already paid the appropriate copay at the time of visit. They tell me they called to leave a message asking for my insurance information in August, a voicemail that I never received, almost one year after the visit. Most providers would have followed up with a letter, they did not. Now being told they are sending me to collections for THEIR billing issue. Will never go back to this provider. Extremely unprofessional. March 2022 update. They sent it on to collections. They must really need the $80 they incorrectly billed.

2021-08-10Update: I was skeptical but I called them again. They did find an appointment for me. Unfortunately I could not make it. I am thankful they were able to find an appointment.I tried to make an emergency appointment. I was put on hold and someone answered. I was talking to her and she put me on hold again. While I was waiting, I hear someone else pick up the call and say how can I help. By the time I realized it. it was too late he hung up on me. I felt very uneasy to call back because I am not sure how their service would be. I understand I am just 1 in 1000 for them but when someone is calling in for an emergency. Wish they were more patient and not put people on hold and disconnect without giving time to respond :(

2020-09-10The Schenectady office staff were rude. Theres also no consistency between the different locations. Was able to attend my husbands appt with him last week, but was told I needed to sit in the car at this location. Would have been courteous of the staff to tell patients ahead of time, so that appropriate arrangements could be made.

2022-01-04Worst experience ever 😪 long wait and its been an 1:45mins just sitting here. If you have fidelis care insurance you kinda not welcome, they will let the people with better insurance go in first and you just waiting for whoever got a chance to see you not by your turn smh. If you can avoid this location dplease do so!

2021-04-02All my clinicians were very friendly and organized. The doctor was friendly and knowledgable. My appointment took a little over an hour which was very acceptable considering that I was having an issue with one of my eyes.

2021-01-11I had an appointment scheduled since February 2020 for January 2021. I was contacted a week ago to make me aware my doctor retired and I would need to choose a new doctor for my scheduled appointment. When I call in to make this change I am told my appointment would have to be scheduled out to April because the doctor available doesn’t take my insurance. This appointment that was scheduled almost a YEAR ago shouldn’t have been rescheduled before a week ago?!?! The unprofessionalism here is appalling to say the least. And the flamboyant male who gave me this info...Disgusting attitude and tone of voice! Horrendous customer service! ZERO STARS!!!

2021-05-02They failed to tell me prior to my appointment that I would be having drops put into my eyes that causes me not to see up close. I have never had a eye appointment before so i did not know what would be done. I ended up not being able to attend school that day because i could not see which was a huge inconvenience because i had an exam that i had to take another time ! Not to mention i had to call for someone to come and drive me home !
