Cozy and finished we’re quality with keen attention to detail. A little away from the madding crowd.Bathroom was gorgeous… always a good sign. Drinks were really delicious. Snacks were on point. But the highlight undoubtedly was the staff. The server was incredible and the bar tenders were just perfect.
The owner (yes, the owner) approached my table drunk and asked me if I was crazy for exposing him to COVID and chastised me. He was very clearly drunk and spitting on me while he literally yelled at me for coming to his bar wearing hospital scrubs (which were fresh). The table next to us, bar tender and waiter were embarrassed for him and profusely apologized. We’d been there for 3 hours and probably had a $300 bill - I told him he was a disgrace and asked to pay so we could leave (and never come back) but he was so drunk he told me there was no bill and to just leave. Horrible guy - apparently this happens frequently. At least a free night of drinks at his expense.
My partner is unable to drink, so they ordered a charcuterie board ($30) while I ordered a cocktail ($16). Our waiter waited until the food arrived to inform us that my partner would be charged a cover fee if I shared any of their food, unless they ordered a drink or more food only for themself as well.Had we known about the stipulations at the start, my partner would have ordered a smaller plate or just a mocktail and not shared, rather than be charged an extra $15 for the privilege of sharing a larger food item.I understand cover fees can be important with limited space, but Im looking for better transparency at the start of our meal - especially given we were there early in the night and tables were largely empty on arrival.
3.25/5Cute little bar with a train cart theme. The train theme isnt overly apparent in my opinion but the atmosphere is nice. Its a dim room that was pretty quiet on an early Sunday night. Seemed like a nice spot to pull out a laptop and get some work done too. Service was friendly and pretty hands off.For drinks I tried the Melopepo (gin, midori, amaro, grapefruit, lime juice) I found the herbal notes of the amaro to be a bit dominant and the midori didnt add too much. Decent but not amazing. The No espresso, but this is a great option if your enjoy coffee. The Mr. Black liquor tastes like a chocolatey cold brew which compliments the rum very well. The aqua faba adds a creamy element to give the drink a cappuccino-like mouth feel.We also tried the mixed appetizer plate. The smoked eggplant salad with the garlicky fresh tarator make for a great pairing especially with the warmed pita. The hummus was alright all around.
Lovely and pleasant little neighborhood bar, with a tastefully done interior reminiscent of a train car, with posters and knick-knacks from along the route of the orient express (although one may quibble with a few, such as Amsterdam there). The decor and ambiance are what drew us in. On a Monday evening it was quiet and peaceful, an oasis from the hectic city and uproariously loud bars that dominate the scene today.Specializing in cocktails, the barkeep sheyan was helpful and unhurried, letting us meander the various options and features like we were buying a car. Reasonable prices for bespoke cocktails, though what had happened to the world that makes me think $15 is reasonable?Food is mostly Turkish and Eastern Mediterranean, and was a fine complement to out cocktails.A gem if you can catch it.
HORRIBLE experience. Made a reservation for 6 for my partners birthday and told friends that live nearby to meet us for a drink there as well. The bartender refused to serve us because more than six people showed up - the place was completely empty. Will NEVER go there again. We live in the neighborhood and could not believe how despicable the treatment was. Pretty place with no substance. They dont know how to run a business.Don’t bother yourself. You clearly don’t like to work too hard. You’re a disgrace. Nasty, rude, and unprofessional. You turned away business, which I could not fathom, in a pandemic but that’s your prerogative. NYC is open for full capacity since May. You could’ve asked us to move outside if you were worried about capacity issues for an empty bar, but you just refused service. I guess 12 people was too much to handle for a bar in NYC. No loss for us. We’ll never be back.If you want a rude unprofessional bar this is the place.Cheers :)
We were at the Orient Express with a group of people to celebrate our Brit friends birthday last weekend. We had high expectations, we really wanted to like the place, but it turned out such a horrible experience. The bartender was rude and very unprofessional. He never wanted to take our orders even though we were sitting right next to the bar in store front. He kept telling us Ill take your orders after Im done for other peoples order. But there were only a few people sat inside, and a few outdoor. He also kept blaming us that we were bigger group than originally made reservation for 6, and complaining. Why he didnt want any customers? Why did he refused to take our orders? We have no idea. We left the place less than 1 hour, after having such a horrible experience there. I waited for 20 min, others waited more than 40 min to get to this point. Only 5 of 12 people got drinks. Never again. DO NOT GO!! THEY NEVER WELCOME YOU!!!
Our group had the best time. We went on a Friday. OE was busy but the service was fantastic. There was no wait for drinks at all. The staff was kind and responsive. They created drinks based on our taste. Drinks on and off the menu were equally fantastic. Well be back!
Came him on a rainy Sunday. Came to drink by myself and cry and BOY what a great time I had.The bar was pretty empty. One couple on a date, one person working on her laptop. I was worried about showing up in converse sneakers based on my friends past stories. But the place was more casual than I expected.I walked in and the bartender immediately said hello and gave me enough space to settle in.I grabbed a table by myself and enjoyed the light music and conversation of the couple besides me.I had two drinks. The Last Stop, which has Gin, St Germain and some lime and ginger. It was a pretty straight forward drink. It wasnt until I had a chocolate bourbon drink that I really was like, Hot damn. Its a nice and quiet -- out of the way cocktail bar. The bartender was polite, kind, and just the right amount of attentive. Its worth a local trip, but I wouldnt say its wickedly extra special.
We stumbled across this place a few months back. The staff is extremely professional and attentive. Their cocktail list is excellent. And the bartenders take their tending seriously. But without attitude. The atmosphere is chill and the lite bite food items are great. Even though I want to keep this place to ourselves Id highly recommend checking it out. Thank you Orhun for providing a fantastic experience on New Years Eve!!
Nice place to warm up in the Sunset during those chilly, foggy evenings. The fireplace inside keeps you warm and toasty if you can manage to grab a table in front. They have rotating drinks deals, and the prices are inexpensive. A great place to kickback and unwind. I like the ambiance and mellow atmosphere. Stays open late (2am) which makes this place a prime spot to hangout with your friends any day of the week.
My friends and I went here for drinks after a play on a Friday night. We ended up there because there were 7 of us and it was less crowded than other nice bars in the area (West Village). The atmosphere was dope. It is pseudo Agatha Christie-themed, like a train car. Overall, the space is beautiful, and the music was on point. The cocktails were pretty good, but not great, for the price ($14-15). Those prices are standard in the West Village, though, and service and atmosphere were both fantastic.
I love this place. Stellar interior, knowledgeable bar staff, one of the few places in the city where I trust the bar staff implicitly, to the point whereI might ask for something whisky based..., or like what I just had but with more citrus..., or even something not currently on the menu....If you like cocktails, or if you want somewhere cute AND tasty to take a date to, this is a great choice.
Its very nice little bar and the bartender is a nice guy. Drink is not cheap but its quite strong, so I dont complain about it. Its always somewhat quite in the bar whenever I visit there. May be it gets crazy layer in the night, but I like its quite and slow feeling in there, almost feels like time slowed down a bit in there. If you have a date and want to have a glass of whatever while you can still hear the other person saying, this would be a nice place for you
Great cocktails and intimate setting! Our group of friends reserved Orient Express Bar for NYE and thoroughly enjoyed the period, train decor and fantastic cocktails and food prepared by the staff. Special thanks to Orhun for his superb mixology and attentiveness at the bar - not only did they have a well-developed list of excellent cocktails, Orhun prepared custom drinks based on customer alcohol and taste preferences. Could not have asked for a better experience!
Its a cosy dim lit bar with some fantastic drinks. They have a limited menu, largely Mediterranean themed, the falafels were great and we got chicken skewers with a side of avocado salad which was also delicious. It gives a vibe of being a cool romantic speakeasy and the theme of a vintage train carriage really works for it. The drinks are unique and a great balance in flavors. without being to pretentious or steep like speakeasy drinks can be. You can even get a bartenders choice just tell him the kind of drink you want and he works his magic. My only complaint is probably how limited the menu is, there could be a few more appetizers.
Such a nice place in the middle of the West side. It belongs there with its artistic and mostly antique interior style. I ate chocolate croissant and scrambled eggs with Turkish sausage so far, and i must say both were great but the eggs was one of the best Turkish style eggs i had for the last few years in New York. Buket, who is the waitress most of the time i was there is amazing person. She has such a great taste in many things including, suggesting her favorites and finding the perfect music for the cafes atmosphere. Everything in the cafe creates the Orient Express world. Its antique-full decor surprises you with even the smallest details and it does not end in the main room, it expands even to the bathroom and you have the full Orient Express experience, right here in New York.
A charming cafe & restaurant named and themed after the famous steam engine. Friendly staff, delicious food, great coffee, and excellent craft cocktails. Hunker down at a cozy table or admire the beautifully crafted bar from a comfy stool. Ill definitely be coming back!
Very cool place. I only cone here for the expresso and prefer to sit outside however the inside looks pretty sweet. The roof and the sides looks like a train cabin. Aka Orient Express.Espresso is good and service is great! One of the only places in the area that doesnt have the music blasting!
Every time I come here, I feel like I should be wearing a flapper dress! Its beyond adorable, the music is great, the staff are nice, and the drinks are fantastic. Try the Barmans Choice for a drink (or 2). Every time its a winner. The food is so so, not bad but not as great as the drinks.
It must be a nice place, must have great drinks and yes, great environment.Im reviewing the attitude and the unwelcoming bartender / mixologist we had to experience today May Sunday 22nd, as soon as she saw our kid crossing that door ( she is almost 7 and knows better the rules than any other adult). With her unwelcoming expression she says~~ Looked back and totally ignored usMy dear, we know the rules and we live in the neighborhood. Do not give us this attitude with your super tattoos. Get real. We have been there as well and we also have tattoos :)Welcome everyone and be nice. Thats how you make a difference from the hundred of options we have in the village and this is how you make your best customers. Your wine bar next door knows better. Learn from them.
A small, cozy, and hip cocktail spot, ideal for a drink while waiting for a table at The Spotted Pig. The bartenders are very knowledgeable and polite, and creative when it comes to preparing off-the-menu cocktails for you. The bar supplies (bitters, ginger syrups, etc.) are all high quality. Sit at the bar with a friend or two, or post up at the back tables with a larger crew.
Adequate to good, but not great. Ordered the bartenders choice ($14) with the instructions, "I'm usually a Manhattan, Negroni kind of guy," which the server boiled down to - "something bitter with brown liquor".The drink I got was a well balanced and in bounds but basically a take on a bourbon Negroni. Which happened to be on the menu under a different name (I don't remember) for $12. Reductive ordering on bespoke cocktails that results a swap on one ingredient is a bit too paint by the numbers for me. Do the right thing and say, "you should try the X". Also no explanation of what was in it or what it was. So save the $2 and order from the menu.Definitely more of a meat packaging than village crowd, but decent vibe and decor. I appreciate the cocktail Renaissance has to have something for everyone to be lasting. I would go here on again if I was nearby, but wouldn't seek it out.
Went there for the first time this past weekend. Drinks were on point with friendly bartenders who actually cared about customer service. Place was packed with music ranging from old school hip hop to recent music. Loved the old fashioned made for me by the Asian bartender.
This off-the-beaten-path cocktail spot is the best kept secret in the W. Village. The turn-of-the-century-themed space beset by old-school suitcases (and various other retro travel-inspired decor) plus the 1930s jazz soundtrack sets the tone for the killer cocktails being mixed up behind the bar. Try the Danube which mixes cucumber soda, vodka, lime juice and fresh mint. Theres also a small menu of snacks like charcuterie and cheese, flatbreads and other Mediterranean fare.
Madness! Mega drinks and a great bartender! We accidentally stumbled into the bar as our real destination was totally overcrowded and did not regret it!The Turkish bartender has mixed us many drinks to our liking, each of which tasted uniquely.Great evening, well be back!

2022-06-25If your not white dont come here, if your having why to much fun on your birthday dont come here. That should be the name of the bar. They told us they couldnt take us because we were too many (group of 6) yet the table they said that was reserved never showed up. (Group of 5) so we just had to wait for our cabs in front of the bar and watch as no one came in for the RESERVED TABLE. To confirm what Im saying look at the names on the reviews going down.

2022-04-05This inviting, understated cocktail spot has been one of our favorites since we moved to NY a decade ago. They are serious (but not obnoxious) about cocktails. Choosing from their menu is an option, but I prefer to let the barkeep use their judgment and surprise me. The food menu is simple but very well-executed. Until I went there last month, I couldnt tell you the last time I had hummus and pita and thought, wow, this is truly delicious! The staff is very hard-working and professional. This is also our regular watering hole if were trying to snag a dinner table in the neighborhood and the wait-list is several lifetimes long. So, having visited Orient Express occasionally over the years, we decided to reach out to them when we needed a venue for my wifes milestone birthday party. They were very accommodating and gave us a great quote. The service (drinks, food, music, cake, photography) was fantastic - attentive without being overwrought. Our guests were enthusiastic about the cocktails and the vibe. A bulls eye!

2021-08-14Cozy west Village cocktail bar. Nice spot to start or end a date night. Loved that the bartenders can stray from the menu and mix cocktails to your taste. The staff is friendly and the prices are fair. Will definitely be back.

2022-03-16Hip cocktail bar with inventive drinks! Perfect for a small group or date, as the bar is noisy enough to have privacy in conversation, but not too loud to make it hard to hear across the table.

2022-09-01This place is pretty good. I was equally impressed with the alcohol- forward cocktails and how they bring out the liquor being served. Partner that with their epic cheese plate and you have a great night. The place is a little out in nowhere but I guess thats good if you like the out of nowhere feel. Overall a great spot

2022-08-21What an assumingly pleasant bar. Grat spot for a chill Sunday vibe. I had the Westside OF - and strong.I cant believe this place has been here for 11 years! 👀 I must have passed here a few times and not even seen it.Good pre or post or post game spot but give the neighborhood, I wouldnt be surprised if the locals crowd this spot on Fridays and Saturdays.

2022-09-21My go to bar in the city! Amazing atmosphere, great and very friendly service and there’s also always really fun people hanging out there too. I’ve had some of my best nights in the city in this place. I also love that there’s two separate parts - a cocktail and a wine bar, so perfect for each occasion!

2022-09-07I can’t express how unkind the bartenders and staff are here. They ruin any of the better aspects to the bar, which would be that it’s a cute and cozy spot in the village for a cocktail. Find another spot, plenty, and not worth drinking with negative vibes.

2021-07-02Fancy cocktails names after famous railroads or railroad stories. As a result of Covid they offer extended outdoor seating which was to our advantage on this delightful summer night. The drinks are crafted with care- delivered a little more casually. Make sure and go inside if you get seated outdoors because the motif is beautiful and specific.
