Stopped in because we heard great things about this place. We ordered a small cheese pizza and Italian mix sub. The pizza was different, cheese on the bottom. Made for an interesting adjustment eating it without wearing the sauce. Im typically used to NY style slice thats very easy to hold and fold as you eat. The taste overall of the pizza was good, very tasty sauce. The crust was bread like and stiff. Overall it was a nice change of pace and well worth the price paid. The sub was ok, I prefer a wider selection of meats with an Italian mix and crustier bread. Service was awesome and the prices are good. They offer a clean dining hall and takeout. Some off street parking. Definitely worth a visit if in the area.
OScugnizzos has been a favorite of our family for decades. Stopped in to get bake-at-home pizzas for football Sunday. The chef cut our pizzas to fit in a cooler for the ride. Followed the directions and they came out perfect. Cant say enough about this Utica icon. Fantastic.
We stopped into this restaurant after taking the polar express ride. The dining room was closed but having two different families with a total of 11 people Josh and red opened up the dining room to help our families. Amazing service, extremely friendly, great people. Food was pretty good too!!
The best pizza ever. I have paid to have it shipped to North Carolina and now Albany. And its worth every penny. Their pies are delicious and the employees are great and owner Big Mike is fantastic hands down. Its a win-win on everything. These people care about their product and you can taste it. 🍕
I have had a lot of different pizza, but being able to take the trip all the way from Long island just to try a pizza my friend raves about... Well he was right ! Their pizza is the absolute best. Cooked perfectly, fast paced service and I will most definitely be coming here again ! We sat down to eat and got a pizza to go. Im also not big on heavy sauce, but when I say its perfect, I mean it !!! So happy.
Utica visitors beware: I called to order two large cheese pies and was very frustrated to be charged almost $40 for 2 small rectangles with backwards pizza. Apparently they are “famous” for this pizza where they put the sauce on top of the cheese instead of under. It was small, overpriced, and tasted blah.
Definitely something that I imagined to be old country style pizza w/thick crust, and a carefully crafted tomato sauce. Nothing fancy or complicated, simple, straightforward and tasty. If youre looking for New York City style pizza, this is probably not the place for you. But if youre looking for something that tastes more homemade, perhaps with origins from the Italian countryside with a central New York spin this is definitely the type of pizza for you. Goes especially well with a nice cold beer (PSA: dont drink and drive, and limitations everything). Ill definitely be ordering again.
Without a doubt my favorite pizza place ever i been going here since i couldnt see over the counter as a little boy. The sausage pizza is just the best they do a layer of sausage then cheese then sauce. The sauce is rich and traditional the pizza isnt super greasy and is held together really nicely its so perfect. The best part of their pizza is when you reheat it splash alittle water on it when reheating it to give it some hydration and it just absorbs it the grease the cheese and the sauce all soak into the bread so you get a super goey chewy pizza thats honestly like no other pizza ive ever had chefs kiss cannot give it enough praise. I also love their salads and their subs the meatball sub is my 2nd favorite item on the menu the sauce is so good and the meatballs are homemade none of that dinos meatball crud you can tell these were freshly maid and not some mass produced food. Finally the wings are also the best ive ever had none of the wings are small or some kinda of mutated lookin piece of meat like little Caesars wings they are good in all flavors especially that bbq sauce they use. When i leave utica this pizza place will be the thing i miss the most.
Our visits to Utica usually involves a Utica Style Cheese on the Bottom Pizza. Out regular stop didnt have any at lunch time so we found OScignizzo. Its very casual and old school Pizzaria feel. The folks that took out order were super friendly and we had some good laughs. The pizza was great. Not to saucy and a generous amount of cheese. Really enjoyed the pizza and will go back again.
Honestly very disappointed I had to argue with the delivery man about bringing my food up to my door by time I got my pizza it was cold then when he got to my door he couldnt even work the portable credit card machine then gave me my food left and didnt even check if I called to pay which I paid @27.00 for 1 the pizza that was cold 2 it was not prepared the way I requested nd 3 rude workers just horrible! But the cold pizza was ok I guess my son ate 5 pieces in line setting and hes only 3
My #1 favorite pizza place on the planet. Simple but perfect. Their sauce and (sour dough?) crust is so good and with the sauce being on top you really taste the flavor nicely. Theyve very generous with the cheese underneath the sauce. Im not a fan of their layer of sausage on the sausage pizza, but their cheese pizza is to die for.
Growing up I had two favorite pizza places. OScugnizzos was one of them. No pizzeria could ever take their place or even come close to their taste or services. Prices are kind of up there. But, you definitely pay for quality. 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾 The #7 is the only # for me. Best upside down pizza ever.
While this place might be held dear by nostalgic locals, if youre driving by Utica and looking at pizza reviews, youre going to be bamboozled if you go here. The closest approximation to what we were served is Lunchables Pizza, but even Lunchables might have a more flavorful sauce going for them.A total dousing of crushed red pepper could not salvage the absolutely bland red paste that was on our pie. The crust was as cold and thick to bite through as the Lunchables, but those come out of a plastic package from the refrigerator, while the OScugnizzos came out of a legit pizza oven. Major head scratcher. Dont disappoint yourself.
Fantastic!! I was a skeptic of as my other half likes a thicker crust with extra sauce. I like thin crust and less sauce. Incredibly we both LOVED IT! The history, the staff and the delicious food, dont miss this Utica NY gem!! We will be ordering pizzas from them online, they SHIP all over the country!!
Delicious pizza and great workers :) Im from out of town and normally stop at the shop on the other side of town on my way north. This day I was starving and working near by and brought several coworkers with me. We went in to order and only after we ordered noticed we had ordered something that wasnt allowed... the guys took it in stride, served us with smiles and accepted our apologies for not realizing our mistake. The food at both restaurants is ALWAYS amazing, and the service is stellar!
Ive been eating their pizza for almost 50 years. Ive never gotten a bad one. I live about 65 miles from the restaurant and still make the drive several times a year to eat there. Theyve done a lot of work to the dining area in recent years. Its a nice, casual place to eat. I highly recommend it.
OScugnizzo Pizzeria is the BEST pizza I have ever had. Fresh mozzarella, premium meats all nestled under neath scrumptious sauce on fresh pizza dough. Pizza made with LOVE. The subs are delicious too. Meats and cheese on fresh bread made how ever you want it by hands that make art out of food. Yummy French fries. You have to treat yourself to OScugnizzos, go ahead you derserve it!
Deliveries have to be on point my pizza got to me very cold for the money Im paying they should be hot not cold! And you guys have to get your website fixed especially with your prices the internet says one price when a delivery guy gets to you like 25-30 bucks over the price you seen in the internet thats insane get it right youll be a very successful business! But other than that the food you guys make overall is good👍!
WOW‼️! THE PIZZA IS ALWAYS DELICIOUS... BUT I HAVE TO GIVE KUDOS OUT TODAY... THE PLACE LOOKS GREAT...VERY NOTICEABLY SUPER CLEAN & SPIFFED UP WITH FRESH PAINT, NO LOUD BANTER FROM BEHIND COUNTER. PLEASE STOP IN... ORDER UP... GIVE THESE HARD WORKING GUYS A HIGH FIVE🍕...
A true pizza place knows what it means when they are told extra crispy and extra sauce on their chicken wings and this place knows how to do it right! My wings always come out just the way I want them and they are SO good! We also love the pizza too. If I had to change one thing about it, it would be to make the pizza crust a bit thinner but overall very good, the sauce on the pizza is so delicious!! They are always so busy so when you call sometimes it feels like you are getting rushed off the phone while placing your order. Just make sure you tell them everything you want before hanging up otherwise youll have to call them back. I almost forgot to add in extra crispy, extra sauce on my wings so now its the first thing I say before telling them what sauce I want on my wings. Overall a very good pizza place in Utica, NY and I would 100% recommend them!
The pizza here is outstanding the wings were awesome and the people who work here are very friendly and so passionate about what they do! I love the pride they take in their delicious food. They make the sausage and the sauce in house and both are delicious! I highly recommend this no frills family friendly pizza shop!
We were vacationing and came across the great reviews so we decided to dine in at OScugnizzo. We happen to be very particular when it comes to food and we were nothing but disappointed with the pizza and wings. The only reason we are not giving it a one is because the only thing wife and I liked was the flavor of the sauce.
Wanted to try the famous Tomato Pie, didnt realize you had to preorder, not to worry regular pizza was said to be similar. Waited an acceptably long bit of time in a small dinning area that was 100% filled with the most accommodating family throwing a party. Pizza was pretty ok.
If you are traveling in Utica or just moving there then YOU MUST visit this spot! This place is very unique and their signature pizza is also unique. Try their in-bone Buffalo Wings! They fry those wings to a crunchy perfection and their sauce is TO DIE FOR! I moved out of Utica in December of 2017 to California and I deeply miss this place!
Visiting utica on a business trip and wanted to try out some utica pizza. went in to pick up order and watched them make pizza , i was shocked to see them bring a clear bag of pre cooked pizza crusts from back room, wow what a let down, now fresh dough, pizza was tasty but extremely chewy , very pricey DIGIORNO
Im giving this rating solely on the quality of the pizza. The pizza is probably something most new comers to the area have never had, there own take on an upside down-esque pizza. The flavor when you take a bit is spicy, yet also a little sweat. The aftertaste will be stuck in your mouth for minutes upon minutes and trust me, thats a great thing. Youll always crave more. Also, a plus for me is there Sicilian style crusts, think and overwhelming compared to regular pizza. Fresh meats and vegetables, what more can you ask for.
My grandfather delivered produce here in the sixties my uncle worked there in the 70s me and my cousins worked there in the 80s. Thanks Steve for keeping this historic institution open during these trying times. Chops showed me the meaning of what hard work means and work ethic . I carry this with me to this day
So we were passing through and saw great reviews and said that’s where we want to go. Omg if this is the best pizza in Utica just keep on driving! Frozen pizza must be a delicacy there. When asked what sizes the small and large were we were shown bagged pre made crusts. Should have left. The pizza was the worst I’ve ever eaten out. The sauce was thin and not flavorful. The crust was dry and tasteless. The positives were the Parmesan and the updated and clean restrooms.
Don’t order the Chicken Riggies. Whatever sauce they use is tasteless. Little to no peppers. Very disappointing experience. I stood close to the counter waiting for the employee to acknowledge me standing there to pick up the Riggies but he never looked up and continued to keep his head down and stayed bent over on his phone after I said Hi. Not very good service. Haven’t met any employee there with good customer service skills. I can enjoy good pizza at a competitors.
First and last time I will EVER ORDER FROM HERE. Ordered a small cheese pizza for pick up. Went to pick it up and was hit on by every single male working in the place, which was extremely disrespectful!!!! Brought the pizza home and immediately opened it and served it. This was the worst pizza ive ever had in my life. It was burnt, hard as a rock, and ice cold. I wouldnt recommend this place to my worst enemy. DO NOT GO HERE. AWFUL SERVICE AND FOOD!!!!!!!!
Ive eaten within prior and have enjoyed the food but with COVID going on and trying to place a delivery order due to calling VOiP on my laptop since I have no phone I was informed a phone number was/is needed and then just hung up on. Tried calling back to offer to pick up if it was that much of an issue only to have no one respond for a minute then hang up once again. Completely unprofessional and rude!
Ordered fried mushrooms and mozz stix and mushrooms were more batter than mushroom and very dark and soaked in oil. Mozz stix were bland. Rarely go here unless craving fried cauliflower and didnt even get it in order. When called about it, they said the fryer is eating them.
104 year old pizzeria! Pretty cool. Im not big on pizza, drove the court kids and we went there for lunch. It was good pizza, they do it upsidedown-like, cheese under the sauce, less messy, I liked that! Saw someone else eating a hoagie (sub for you NYers) 😄 I would go again 👍
I never post reviews, but my friend and I were staying in Utica and the restaurant was closed at the hotel we were staying at, we called pizza stop or whatever it was called and they didnt even answer their phones, it was only 7:00pm. So we called here and let me tell you this was the best pizza Ive ever had, wish I could have this places pizza all the time, the pepperoni and the cheese was on the dough and the sauce was on top, never knew pizza was served this way. I wish there was a place like this at home. If I ever end up in Utica again this will be my first stop.
I’m from out of town and several people told me that I have to go to O’Scugnizzo Pizzeria because they have the best pizza in the WORLD! The pizza was super delicious and the service was great too, thanks Josh and Red you guys are awesome!!!!!I highly recommend this place!
Ordered delivery, was recommended.....took 1 hr 45 minutes. They are 10 minutes from tne hotel. Also called after the first hour past, was told taking out of oven. ... 35 minutes later delivery person didnt have it in a keep warm bag and it was lukewarm to cold. Probably would have been good pizza if hot.
I ordered a large pizza to go .. after picking it up I couldn’t wait to dive into it cause I was starving ..Once I opened the box I thought boy this looks kinda overdone .. well overdone it was ... I thought I was eating cardboard with sauce on it .. unfortunately I got a large so I had plenty ..to throw away ...😰. I wont be visiting that place again .. to expensive to be throwing out 😰.
Im going to give it a 3 because there were plusses and minusses. I did not know they are famous for their upside down approach to placing the ingredients on the crust. I didnt care for that. But my wife ate 3 pieces and liked it. To each their own. The staff, who I assume are family, reminded me of my own italian family. Kind of rough, loud, but good guys. The dining area is your basic tables and chairs, no frills, family pics and momentos on all the walls. They do a good take out business. The biggest surprise was the sausage. It completely covered the pizza crust. Worh a try, but be prepared for a vastly different experience.
How much Nostalgia in thia place thats been around for more than decades in Utica...Is a City trasure! Pizza authentic flavor ! They have their own delicious style same for as far as I can remember...their subs are amazing! In this small forgotten town thia place still stands where I grew up...
BEST PIZZA EVER—O’SCUGNIZZO PLEASE READIf you want to barf your insides out and hate yourself enough to eat this trash piece of garbage pizza then this place is for you. So congratulations you are officially in the top 1% of worst human beings on this earth. IT IS THE WORST PIZZA EVER.
There was not much to like about this place. Who ever answered the phone was very quick with me and didnt give me two seconds on the phone, then when I showed up after they said the food wouldve been done. I had to wait another 10-15 minutes for the food to be done. Their sauce is like water and they spread the cheese horribly unevenly across the pizzaI hate to right a bad review but its a pretty sad pizzeria. I wish I knew there was a Moes down the road before I went there
The food was very good tonight. We have been going here for thirty years. They have had their us and downs but the present management seems to be doing a better job than recently. We did have to wait quite a while for our food even though we had called ahead too have it ready.
Food is pretty good, but the staff are completely rude and unprofessional.I have been here a handful of times now, and every time I walk in I am completely ignored until I say something. When I say ignored, I mean no one looks up to acknowledge my presence, they keep talking amongst each other, etc...I would give the food itself a higher rating, but the employees make this establishment not worth the taste of the food.
Been going here since I was a kid fast friendly services and the best upside down pizza in the area you want sausage they cover the entire pizza with it all fresh vegetables and the meatball subs are to die for if you want pizza the upside down way then yes this is your best option
So I recently just ordered a Chicken Reggie order and I just t want to say everything was horrible the Chiken reggies tasted like nothing there was a bunch of oil dripping from the food and the person who delivered the food was super rude and giving me a whole bunch of attitude I did gave him the wrong address but he should understand a food deliverer he represents the restaurant and the staff I tried apologizing and giving him a $20 dollar tip but he cut me off in the middle of me talking and asked me for my money .. this was my first and last time getting food from this place
They forgot the pepperoni they overcharged Me by 9:50 dollars and when asked about the money back the guy said Im not giving your money back and said he gave me a gift card for only $8.50 it cost a dollar fifty to apply I never return to that place again except hopefully I can find something at that price

2022-01-29The food was good but the tables were dirty and there was a distinct lack of pride in a establishment that has been around since 1914.

2022-03-23Ive been a customer of this pizza place since I was a kid, many years ago. Ive always had a terrific experience with the #7 pizza except for this past Sunday. Mind you, the #7 doesnt take much of nothing to make, cheese, sausage, sauce, and perhaps mushrooms. Whoever made my pizza had to be high...it was theeeee most horribly made...old tasting overly baked sauce, a sheer skim of sausage, and I asked a family member if they had cheese on their slice as none was on mine. I know the price of everything is going up, but dont skim and scam your loyal customers. Id pay more for quality. Very disappointing 😞

2020-10-14Classic staple in Utica, Ive loved their pizza since I was a kid. Used to be you couldnt find a better or even comparable upside down pizza. But lately, it seems like they might be holding on just because theyre a local staple.. The last time I got pizza here the sauce tasted...old..? Ingredients just dont seem as fresh maybe. Which was unfortunate because it wouldve been great otherwise. The actual construction of it was perfect. Hope to see them make a full comeback.

2022-05-16Utica pizza at its finest. Best upside down pie anywhere. They use plenty of cheese and don’t skimp on toppings either if you like sausage for example which I recommend most with pepperoni or Longhots they put a super thick layer on and the sausage has a nice flavor plenty of fennel which makes me think they grind their own. Wings and sandwiches too but they are just ok sort of an old building too but if your focus is the pizza best you are going to get and I’ve had them all

2019-08-18This was my first experience with an upside-down pie, and I loved it. The crust was dense; somehow chewy and crispy at the same time. You couldnt see the pepperoni, but you could surely taste its flavor. When the pie is served, it appears to be uncut. But its actually sliced perfectly, so its super easy to grab a piece without everything sliding off. The sauce, sprinkled with grated cheese, is flavorful. And you should try the finely ground hot pepper flakes. ... The building seems a little sketchy, but who cares? Its downtown Utica. Wasnt expecting a palace. The two men behind the counter were efficient, if not exactly warm and cuddly. The pricing is a shade high, but not worthy of a legitimate complaint. The pizzeria has been operating for more than 100 years, so its pretty obvious that the folks behind the business know what theyre doing. Nothing fancy going on, other than flavor.

2021-05-19Great za - couldnt wait to take the picture had to smash some pieces first! Picked this up on my drive from Boston to Cleveland after reading great reviews online. Love the crust and sauce on top - a truly unique pizza from a great spot.

2018-10-20In my opinion, this place has the best pizza in Central New York, uncontested. I drive from Syracuse regularly just to pick it up. Crispy, buttery dough. Thick, luxurious cheese that chars perfectly around the crust. Savory, chunky sauce. I recommend the #9 pie.
