My curls feel and look the best they ever have after the cut and color I got from Robert! He is a true curly hair expert and was so attentive and a pleasure to chat with, as were all the other staff I interacted with. Robert gave great styling tips and advice for how to care for dyed hair. Couldn’t recommend Ouidad more - it’s truly a place that makes you feel understood and cared for as a curly girl! Expensive, but well worth it!
Went in after work for a curly cut and deep condition and let me tell you, I left moisturized and with all of my cares and woes on the floor with the rest of my heat damaged hair. Suleky was my stylist and made sure to talk me through the entire process. We had a consultation at the beginning of our appointment where she listened to my concerns and we came up with a game plan. I never felt out of the loop with what was going on and she made me feel like I was involved with the process which really helped me feel more comfortable. We also chatted about ideal hair products for me which was awesome since now I know what to buy for myself and how to care for it at home. Cutting curly hair can be anxiety-inducing since a few inches off can make a massive difference but feeling included in the process really helped. SO happy with my experience and will definitely be returning.
If you’re curly and you want to embrace your natural hair, this is where you need to go. The precision of the cut is on point. Yes, it’s pricey but it’s well worth it. I’ve been to two different stylists and they are not scissor-happy. They provide a great cut and give you styling tips plus some product samples if you’re lucky. I left the salon feeling great. It’s a feeling I’ve rarely had at other salons.
I got my first curly cut this summer with Virginia bc i was referred by one of my guy friends. She was amazing! Shes very passionate in what she does & talks highly about her coworkers. She refreshed my curls ( which are 2C and 3A)& after my visit my hair was just soo soft and so bouncy! I will definitely go back & kick it up a notch but trying to challenge her (: PS if you book on a holiday all product go onsale !
Let me start off by saying their stylists are amazing and the cut I received two years ago was one of my favorites. Id like to echo other reviews by saying I got so many styling tips I really learned how to care from my curls best from them. That being said, I made an appointment on Oct. 25, for Sat. Dec. 11 (plenty of time in advance). Their receptionist reached out to me last week to let me know my appointment had to be moved up 30 mins due to a conflict, okay no problem. This morning I was left a voicemail today that informed me my appointment was now canceled due to my stylist having a two week family emergency they had to be out of the salon for--I totally understand, things happen, again, no problem. I am going out of town for the Christmas holiday and really need this cut (its been 2 years since my last), so I called hoping they had openings for any other time this Fri, Sat, or Sun with any other stylist. I called back and left a voicemail immediately after I missed their call, and then proceeded to call several times over the range of 2 hrs. to move forward with this process and no one answers the phone there. I have yet to hear back. I have been very understanding throughout this situation but the least you can do as a salon would be to answer your phones in a timely manner so we could figure out a solution. I really loved my stylist there (Shalace is amazing!) but Im not going to sit around twiddling my thumbs waiting until who knows when to find out that actually there is nothing they can do. I hope they find a solution that works and alleviates whoever is designated to answer the phone so they can actually answer client calls. Really disappointed, was so looking forward to working with them again.
First and last time I will be going to Ouidad. Im very disappointed with the lack of respect for my time and money. I went in for a cut and color. When I got home I realized my roots were not properly covered at all. My senior stylist did not actually do most of my color (just the cut), and farmed out most of it to one of the shampooers, so I figured perhaps that was why? When I called the salon the next day I got the next available appointment, which was a week later, to correct the issue. I had to take more time off work to come back a second time, and only had an hour. She was 20 minutes late and there was no apology about not having done the color herself, or correctly, the first time, nor for being 20 minutes late. I mentioned several times what time I had to leave, and my color was still not done by then. I ran out of the salon with sopping wet hair, 20 minutes late for a meeting. I called to cancel all my future appointments and I was told a manager would call me back. I never received a call. For $400 w/tax and tip (I tipped before noticing the issue), I expect much more care and attention. The final result after 2 visits was good but in my opinion it wasn’t worth it. I do not recommend this salon.
Dont waste $200+ going here. Ive gone several times in the last ten years and never had a experience that was worth it. My hair always comes out worse than when I style at home with the same products. Some of the stylists are rude and dont offer personalized attention to your hair -- using outdated practices like frying my hair under an overhead dryer; scraping my curls with a scissor to texturize; overall superficial interaction without meaningfully hearing my thoughts or concerns. My last cut was not shaped well - a mop on my head - and as I suspected the texturizing damaged my hair. Just buy Heat & Humidity gel and watch videos online.
For all my curly-haired girls, Ouidad is definitely the place to go! After having terrible experiences in the past with haircuts, I’m usually always hesitant- and even a bit nervous to try somewhere new. I’ve been using Ouidad products for the past two years so I figured that I’d finally give their flagship salon a try.I booked online and chose a random stylist and was paired with Molly… and wow.. I couldn’t be more pleased! Molly is attentive to her client’s needs, extremely skilled and takes her time to ensure that her work is being done perfectly. The first time I visited, I wanted to get highlights done. I felt very well taken care of and at no point did I feel that the service was rushed. The highlights were done beautifully, but I realized shortly afterwards that I preferred my black hair. Since then, I’ve had two haircuts and also dyed my hair back to black twice. Molly is a pro with a pair of scissors and I leave the salon getting so many compliments on my curls. I appreciated the fact that she asked if I preferred volume or definition, and she cut and styled my hair accordingly. You can tell that she truly loves what she does… can’t recommend her enough!
Absolute hair heaven! Clean, well designed, and absolutely wonderful staff. I had an appointment with Mirsada, a senior stylist. She was friendly, professional and extremely knowledgeable. To say the least, this haircut answered all my needs and it was perfection. All together Ouidad Salon in NYC, is a lovely experience!!!
So today I went to Ouidad to get a haircut by Lenny. She was phenomenal!! More than amazing. She was so kind and helpful , she answered every question I had about my hair. I also went in with no idea on what I wanted to do with my hair. However I did tell her my hair was flat and had no shape. I also had gave myself a bad quarantine homemade hair cut that my hair was still struggling to grow back from. I didn’t want to cut too much of my hair either. Lenny literally gave me the perfect cut , she taught me about my hair as she was doing it. She was so welcoming and friendly. I have anxiety when meeting new people and allowing people to cut my hair however from her energy I instantly felt comfortable and trusted her. We spoke throughout the appointment and I’m definitely coming back for another cut. She is now my go to for a haircut. I also haven’t had a haircut in 2 years and she made my hair look so healthy while keeping enough length. Highly recommend going to this salon and to Lenny. They’re very friendly and welcoming.
OK service. Booked a curly hair cut there. My stylist was knowledgeable. She didnt initially catch that I had requested bangs, so I reminded her when she thought she was done. When she did cut my bangs, she was in a hurry. I was VERY nervous to be under hasty scissors. Wished she had been more attentive from the start so that the layering in the front would have been more evened out with the bangs, but I guess it could have ended alot worse lol also when she closed the dryer hood she slammed it on my forehead and was in such a hurry that she didnt even notice let alone apologize about it.
This place is amazing! Ayanna cut and styled my hair and she did an amazing job. Actually the best curly cuts I’ve had hands down. I came in with a different idea on what to do to my hair and she suggested a healthier alternative for me as far as coloring. She took the time to explain what she was doing step by step, and it was a wonderful experience totally recommend Ayanna!
(Aug2020, Mirsada) Wanted to share that my return to Ouidad post-pause was exceptional! Safety procedures (including limited occupancy) were in place but did not distract one bit from either the skillful service or friendly customer support. I have been a client for 2 years and my curly hair and (dyed red) color have never looked better. I recommend Mirsada for both cut and color. She is an artist and excellent therapist!
Shout out to Kimberly! Just got the best haircut and so many tips for styling at home. Usually I get super stressed about haircuts because theyre expensive and stylists dont cut to my natural curl causing chaotic frizz situations at home. Kimberly made the curls look better than ever and was so fun to talk to - she made the experience really great. Thanks again ♥️♥️♥️
I wish I could give this place more than 5 stars. This is the best haircut I have ever gotten! It is priced so fairly considering the quality of service you are getting. Anila was incredible. Her attention to detail was amazing; she cut every hair and made it perfection. So happy with my visit, will definitely return!
Where do I even begin! I met with Shalace who completely transformed my hair! I recently had a baby and my curls (due to hormones) had lost some of their patterns.. that is till I met with Shalace! She recommended doing a protein treatment, one where I could continue the treatments at home. If you ask me, it was so worth the extra $100 bucks because my curls bounced back up and my hair was so smooth! Shalace carefully listened to my concerns and even wrote down some styling tips. Her assistant Mimi was also welcoming and sweet!Thank you so much Shalace and Mimi!! I recommend this place to all of my curly gals!
I had a consultation scheduled with Mirsada at 3:00 pm. She was a no show. After ending the meeting, I called the salon. They instructed me to go log back into the meeting, and said she will be there in 5 minutes. I ended up waiting another 10 minutes. When she finally got on, there was no apology, no “sorry to keep you waiting”. She literally said “how are you? Talk to me, you want, color?” I told her that I wanted to go copper. She said “send the inspiration pictures to my phone” as soon as she saw them she said “that will be beautiful on you, its going to be $400”. She didn’t ask me anything about my hair, my routine. She didn’t give me any insight about the process, how I should show up tothe salon, or I don’t know maybe a cheaper option? She just seemed in a hurry to get off the call. The whole conversation lasted 2 minutes. Hardly a consultation. I cancelled immediately afterwards. Very rude and unprofessional.
My stylist Malwina was absolutely wonderful! She took her time to understand my concerns and was very helpful in addressing all of my questions. She not only gave me a nice cut but also educated me about my curls and taught me some styling techniques. Im overall very impressed with my first visit to this salon and hope to be back soon! Everyone was welcoming and sweet!
Never knew what to do with my curls growing up (my mother had straight hair!), so I was suggested to come here. Shalace was wonderful, so kind and funny, and taught me what to do with my hair in the future for full curls. Great experience overall, a clean facility, with coffee and water, and quick service.
I had the chance to have my hair cut at the salon while I was visiting NYC. Mirsada did a phenomenal job! I could not be happier. She also recommended some great products that I had shipped home and theyre working great. I really enjoyed my time there and all the ladies were very friendly. I may have to fly up every time I need a haircut now. :) If you have curly/wavy hair, this is the place you need to go to!
I am so very happy that I found Ouidad! The staff is very professional and delightful. The salon is nice and customer service is first class. I was very nervous about my hair. I have always worn my hair curly, but in recent months my curl pattern had started to change in the front and top of my hair. I met with Mirsada, a senior stylist. We discussed my concerns; she examined my hair and made her recommendation. I loved Mirsada’s approach to resolving my hair issues. Like a doctor, she diagnosed my hair, treated and styled it to bring it back to health, before making a recommendation. After a deep conditioning and the best haircut that I have ever gotten… EVER… then and only then, did she recommend doing a partial perm to redefine the curl pattern in the areas that were no longer curling normally/naturally. I came back for the perm and once again received amazing results. The permed curls blend in with my natural curls seamlessly. I not only love my hair, but I also love the Ouidad products that Mirsada suggested. I recommend the salon and Mirsada to anyone who wants to look and feel beautiful!
This is the first time i ever write a review in my life. I have been transitioning for 13 months from heat damage. I already had 2 devacuts in the past that were ok.I decided to come here as i was reading you could decrease volume trough their cutting technique. I picked Kimberly as we come from the same country and let me tell you this was the best curly hair cut/experience ever. Not only was she friendly but she was so sweet and patient with me. She cut my hair and also gave me tips on how to deal with the straight ends. It was like a training session for natural hair. I can not praise this woman enough. The whole day i have been getting compliments form my co-workers and family and is nice to have this while im still in the process of transitioning.Bottomline is, yes it might be expensive, but is worth it, make sure you ask for her on the next visit, specially of you need help on how to find what works for you :)
I cant believe I kept myself from coming here because of the price. I finally had it even my lady stylist screwed up my hair last August. I was trimming my hair myself but I really wanted a hair cut. I was seen by Jessica and she did such a great job with my cut. Ive never experienced a cut so well done, cant wait to come back!
About a week or so ago (sorry for my late review) I came into Ouidad with my hair in a messy bun and the monster of all dreads. I dont know how Jason got it out with out cutting it but he did. Not only did he get out the hell dread, but he gave me an AMAZING haircut that I love soon much! He is truly amazing. If you are planing to change up your curls, ask for Jason, you wont regret it I promise!
Ive been going to this salon over the years now and have never been disappointed with my haircut. I have ethnic tightly curled hair and was a little apprehensive about how well a cut I could be provided. Again, never been disappointed and while the price is on the higher side (cuts range between $115-$150) its so well worth it. I only get my hair cut twice a year so compared to some of my girlfriends who get their hair done biweekly, we kind of end of spending the same amount.
I scheduled an appointment with Jessica for my three year old daughter and myself at Ouidad in New York. I was mainly attracted by the brand Let Curls be Curls and the excellent customer testimonials. The traumatizing Ouidad experience began when Jessica untied my daughters hair in a tough manner. By this point my daughter is scared. As Jessica washed my daughters hair she cried in distress as she harshly detangled her hair from top bottom. Witnessing her lack of professionalism I interjected and told her to detangle from bottom to top and help her in the process. As my daughter cries Jessica mocks her by yelling we can harmonize and made loud noises over my daughters cry in front of customers. Furthermore, during the haircut Jessica abruptly stops halfway, utters with impudence Uh! I need a break and leaves; upon her return I asked if she was okay and she responded Yes I just cant take the crying, people pay lots of money to get their hair done and she keeps screaming and crying I replied when I scheduled the appointment someone should have told me this was not a kid friendly salon, I wouldnt have brought her Jessica then replied you could have at least detangled her hair before bringing her Jessica called her manager and left. Joanne apologized on her behalf and introduced me to Kimberly who bonded well with my daughter and was able to finish her haircut. Id like to thank Joanne for being professional and emphatic, Kimberly for finishing my daughters haircut and talking to her in a kid friendly manner, Naisha for offering my daughter a Mannequin doll to entertain her and the stylist who offered my daughter water. It was your professionalism that ameliorated the humiliation and grievance we suffered.Respectfully,Estelis Roy
It was my first haircut at Ouidad and I am the happiest woman right now. Anila cut my hair and I knew immediately she knew how to cut my hair!! Kim washed my hair and was wonderful. I got the conditioning treatment and absolutely loved it my hair was softer, shinier, and less frizzy. I highly reccomend coming her if you have curly hair!!
I have curly hair and have not had a even good hair cut from local hair dressers with the past two years. When I get of Quidad I wanted to try it. Their prices are a little high but it was worth it as far as I am concern. I had a great haircut that I can style myself.
Completely incompetent! my husband went there, he has short and curly hair. They told him they would have done a treatment to make his curls softer and more under control but in reality they did a straightening treatment and made his hair straight and dry! They sold him a 300 $ treatment he didnt need just because they saw he didnt know anything about hair! thank you for cheating my husband!! We wont come back
True hair artisans!! Ayana is patient, caring and talented!! She can put you back on track if youve had an unfortunate experience or need some TLC for your locks that have had too much sun and fun. Products are the best, too....just remember to leave room in your checked luggage if you are travelling.
I had the worst hair cut in my entire life my hair is totally uneven. The prices is so expensive but the hairdresser Virginia she doesn’t try to know about my hair and asked me the way I like it. I try to explain hair and she totally did a horrible work. Even the service is not a good quality there. For the price they charge
I am putting my Yelp review on Google b/c I want to make sure anyone whos interested in hearing about it, gets to see it.Thank You Ouidad, Jason, Kayla and staff. When I arrived, Jason sat with me for around 5 minutes touching my hair, talking to me about it, asking questions and, listening to me. I had no picture--I needed to talk about it.Id been to many salons from NYC to the burbs, had seen stylists at home too. They couldnt figure out my hair. Someone who saw my hair curly (i have loose curls) suggested three different NYC curly hair salons vs. non-curly salons that had let me down giving me bad hair every time--i did the internet research and ended up with Jason at Ouidad, thanks to Yelp. His colleague Kayla was also super personable and excellent handling my hair and the hair regimen that included amazing products that were left in while Jason cut. Im a simple girl on a budget but when Jason finished, without hesitation I bought three products that included leave in conditioner, cleansing oil and climate control gel. You have to.As Im writing this review, one of my colleagues walked past and said Deb, I really love your hair; it looks so good. My office mates cannot believe the difference. Its been a long time since I left a salon and felt like a new me. Im rambling because its like being in love, you ramble.I knew when Jason started cutting that he has innate talent--hes quite humble and attributed the way i look now to the products and his solid background. At the end of the day, that may have some bearing on the results but believe me, he knows exactly what to do. Its taken me a long time to find someone of Jasons caliber. He told me to wait four months before I return. I am counting down. #LOVEMYHAIR
Love my haircut and stylist Virginia! Virginia is really knowledgeable and so sweet ! I recommend anyone to go to her because she listens as well ! My first time going to her and I will deff go back . I live in the state of Virgina (ironically lol) but she is worth the transit for me!
Very professional in many ways, the staff knows their job. always willing to go the extra mile for their customers, smiling and very pleasant all while working on your hair. very upbeat friendly place, loving their blowdry. you wont be dissapointed with their services, very professional.
Jason and Kesha are absolutely the BEST! They took me from black box dyed hair to a natural red-brown in two sessions, with almost no damage to my hair and a plan on how to rebuild and strengthen it after using color remover and lightener. Cannot recommend them or this salon enough- this new space is clean, bright, welcoming, and I felt confident and in good hands. This is only my second visit, and as someone with crazy curly hair, Ouidad is the first salon where I feel like my curls are embraced instead of being an afterthought.

2021-12-27Cant recommend Horlenny enough! We had such a good time and I entirely trust her with my hair. My hair is still so shiny and soft even after lifting many levels with bleach. Booking my next appointment ASAP!

2021-10-31I am so disappointed. I went on Friday for a haircut which included the styling gel and all the works. It looked great, but the next day, I woke up and the product flaked all over my hair! It looked like I had lice and I looked super dirty. I called them, they told me they would do a rake and shake for free. I come back the same day on Saturday, they do the rake and shake for free, and I wake up today and the product FLAKED AGAIN. I’m literally crying because I spent over $200 for a styling session that I have to WASH OUT because I have work tomorrow and I don’t want to look awful. I checked their website and they said no refunds. I will be calling again tomorrow, but I’m just so disappointed and sad.

2022-09-22BOOK WITH SULEKY AND YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED! She is not only incredibly kind and knowledgeable, but she will also walk you through every step and tell you exactly what is going on. She asked me what cut/color I was looking for and DELIVERED to make sure that I left with exactly what I was looking for. She is also incredibly thorough and meticulous and made sure that my color was perfect. For the salon itself, the facility is incredibly clean and the staff are very attentive to your needs (bathroom break, food, water). It is on the pricey side, so do be aware of this before coming.

2022-06-11My curls are definitely taken care of an Ouidad! Brittany is great stylist, very knowledgeable and skilled at cutting, coloring and styling. It can be pretty difficult to find a skilled stylist for us curly-headed girls who are good at all three, but I appreciate her expertise as well as kind demeanor when we’re interacting and her professionalism. Definitely worth a visit to go see her!

2022-09-15I had Suleky as my stylist who is a very educated hairstylist, gave me very good tips and tricks for my hair. She took her time listening to me and making sure she understood exactly what I was looking for. The salon is very organized, it is pricey however if you really want to go to a place where you won’t get a bad curly cut/ treatment then I highly recommend the Ouidad salon

2022-05-04I hate to do this but if I could give less than one star I would. I was visiting NYC and excited to try a ouidad cut at the flagship salon. I had an appointment with a senior stylist, in our consultation I told him I’m growing out my hair and only wanted to trim the ends and shape the interior. He recommended a conditioning treatment which was wasted money, cut 10 inches off and did no interior shaping. Basically I paid an outrageous price to be lathered in curl shaping gel. Maybe my expectations are to high but I am beyond disappointed, I still need a hair cut and it will probably take at least a year to grow back what he cut off.

2022-08-22Not even sure where to start. Twice reception gives me an appt that differs by 15 mins from the booked. Which tends to make me arrive late.Ive gone twice with the same stylist, Jessica. She seemed cold and told me that she wears a mask to not have to smile at customers all day. WOW. She also insinuater that I made her job harder by not detangling my hair first. How about send an email of tips before a session! Not my job to know this. Her assistant, who doesnt even introduce herself (Sam?) uses another fake friendly technique: SPEAKING LOUDLY and high pitched. Is it that difficult to be nice to people, ladies? The pull down method they use for cutting left a huge layer that is more visible than before. I decided that it was more the salons technique than a stylish issue and came back for color. I asked for the roots to match my orangey brown auburn and they came out like blood orange! Why? They set a timer for color instead of seeing how quickly it develops and come back when it sounds. She told me it looked great and it wasnt until I complained that she said well fix it rather than noticing it immediately and apologizing! Whatever fix they did left roots orange like the fruit. I had to use baking soda and shampoo with sulfates in 3 washes to reduce pigment.Lastly, the salon is not inclusive. Please stop calling clients: Sweetie baby honey doll miss mam... Etc. This is New York. Not everyone who looks female identifies as one. When I asked Jess to clip the back of my hair she said, shocked, Only MEN do that! Why would you want to. . . That was very triggering. Esp having it come from someone I expected be in the same minority group. I should not have had to come out to feel validated. Train your staff to be inclusive.

2022-07-31Horrible customer service, horrible attention to clients, they judge people based on race, and very unprofessional. Bad experience. Many people in the comments have been shocked by the final price. BEWARE IF YOU HAVE CURLY HAIR. I booked an appointment about 2 weeks out and when I sat in the chair they quoted $100 for a basic trim with layers. With the tip included thatd be $529.00. Absolutely insane. I left. The salon is VERY expensive

2021-06-12My first time visiting this salon and I was pleased with the service. I have very fine, curly 3b hair prone to breakage and the stylist worked to give me a hair cut that dealt with the damage and gave me a cute new look. Also did the deep conditioning treatment and its 3 days later and my hair still feels amazingly soft
