All good Mexican food, nice ambience. Great combinations and execution on every plate. Our server at the bar was great. The tuna tartare and lamb tacos that he recommended were great. The bass ceviche was fine, but the flavors a bit muddled, some as the chocolate cake. The black sesame horchata was a fun innovation. Reasonably expensive for the quality.
Today we enjoyed a great brunch at Oxomoco and the experience was absolutely amazing. The food is delicious! This place has a unique contemporary Mexican food, tremendously well prepared, the flavor in each dish feels really authentic and surprising at the same time. The presentation is beautiful, and is an invitation to eat everything. The atmosphere is modest to the eye, clean, original and works pretty good to have a full culinary experience. The service fantastic, well attitude, kind and nice!Soft rock and alternative music in spanish in the background was the cherry on the cake.If you want a table you need to make a reservation; consider that the waiting time is about 2-3 weeks.
My husband surprised me with a birthday brunch at Oxomoco! I love Mexican food, and I 110% recommend coming here if youre the same. The food was off the charts. Its definitely a bit of a splurge, but a great place to celebrate special occasions. We started off with the guava margarita with tequila and mezcal - both extremely good! Boozy but delicious. For starters we got the chips and salsa (corn tostadas paired with 6 different salsas). I love a good salsa tasting! The Oxomoco guacamole was great as well - ask for it spicy if you like the heat!We also ordered the chilaquiles...and they were AMAZING!! I would definitely come back just for them...the chips were perfectly smothered with a lovely sauce without losing their crisp, the egg was oozing out, and the black beans at the bottom warmed the dish. Highly recommend coming for brunch just for this. For tacos, my husband got the lamb barbacoa tacos and I got the beet chorizo tacos. Excellent! The meal was so delicious all around, I look forward to going back again :)
Oxomoco is easily one of my most favorite restaurants! I dined at here in January 2022, so we chose to eat outside. The staff was very cautious with COVID restrictions and cleaning. They also had a lovely patio set up with some barrier to block the wind (it was certainly chilly, but so worth it!!!) We began with the tuna tostada which was absolutely amazing, with a very generous amount of tuna. It was definitely a bit difficult to share between two people, but still great! We then indulged in the most AMAZING caesar salad of all time! Oxomoco took what could have been a very basic dish and completely reimagined it by grilling the lettuce, mixing it with cheese and masa (you must try it!). The lamb barbacoa tacos were succulent and delicious; the green sauce with the taco was the most perfect mix of heat and savory. For our main, we ordered the famous chicken, and it definitely lived up to the hype!! It was so so incredible...moist and cooked to perfection. The crispy rice and sauce were the perfect accompaniment to such a stellar chicken! We finished our meal with the Oaxacan chocolate cake and the Hoja Santa Curd. The chocolate cake was delicious, but the espresso ice cream on top was truly delectable. The Hoja Santa Curd was an unexpected find, delicious and sweet (we think it would be perfect for warm weather too!). It was an absolutely amazing meal and dining experience! We definitely ordered a lot of food, but everything was cooked to perfection. The staff was lovely and the food absolutely amazing. I would highly recommend Oxomoco for an innovative, creative, flavorful, and delicious meal!
Atmosphere was 10/10. Loved the drinks and all the appetizers and the fusion of flavors. We ordered the tuna tostada, chips & salsa, and Caesar to start. We came from Manhattan to try this place and thought the tacos were good but not travel-worthy. We ordered the fish tacos and lamb tacos and again they were good, but not mind blowing.
I dont know where to start. I put so many delicious things in my mouth I forget exactly what I consumed. I did not consume anything that I wouldnt rate at least 5 stars. The one thing that really stood out was the salsa flight. Get that! Then you have the salsas for everything else that you consume! I really appreciated the diversity of tastes and spice across the salsas. The chef is amazing, the food is amazing, the deserts are amazing.
Fantastic spot for upscale mexican food! highlights were definitely the tuna tostada and lamb tacos for me— the tuna tostada had a fantastic texture and flavor and the lamb tacos were some of the best tacos i’ve had ever— so flavorful and delicious we ordered 2 orders! we ended with the chocolate cake, it was super rich and delicious, definitely something that should be shared due to its richness! the black sesame horchata was also a fun twist on the traditional version, it was delicious and nutty! overall, we really enjoyed the vibe and service here, it’s great for small groups or a date night!
Food was great. Service was good, but felt a little rushed. Strong Natural lighting and enjoyable atmosphere. Pollo a las brazas and shrimp ceviche tostada were our two favorite dishes! The hoja Santa custard with smoked strawberries was also really special. The cocktails were ok, and felt a little weak.
Extremely cute & IG worthy brunch spot. It not only looks good but also taste extremely delicious as well.Hands down the best guac I’ve ever had. It was sweet, and savoury with the right amount of acidity. So well balanced and it was extremely fresh. I couldn’t stop eating it!!The tuna tartare was magic. It was rich in flavours and packs a good punch. It had the right amount of heat and not too spicy at all. I could eat like 10 of these.Honestly this place earned their Michelin Star and deserves to be on the guide. This is a must visit in NYC.
Drinks ⭐⭐⭐⭐: the horchata is non traditional, but delicious none the less. Nothing to write home about, but decent and unique enough to try. Their wine and cocktail selection were also great.Food ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐: the food!!! Everything they served us was amazing, but the problem was that it came out in an odd way. My fish tacos came out last despite being ordered first. My friends completely finished their meals before mine even came.Service⭐⭐⭐: average service. Our server messed up our drink order and then gave us drinks for free to compensate. But when the receipt came out they charged us for the more expensive drinks instead of the drinks we ordered. It was only $1 difference, but still... Some attention to detail would have been nice.
Love the seasonal menu - I honestly never want to go anywhere else for tacos. Oxomoco is also uniquely versatile in that it makes for a wonder brunch AND dinner place, which I think is surprisingly difficult to pull off. Excellent service, drinks, and ambience.Highly recommend the papas bravas, sesame horchata, and tuna tostada as apps. We tried the spicy mango and although it was well done, there was just a lot of it for a start of the meal and it was indeed quite spicy. As for tacos, go with whatever the server recommends ;) we got the flank steak (meaty, juicy, hits the spot) and the lamb barbacoa (tastes like Spring is blessing your taste buds and entering your soul). For dessert we had the Hoja Santa curd, which was a nice end to a hearty meal and a very unique taste that I can only compare to pandan pudding. The only downside of the curd was that you definitely need to be a fan of strawberries (which I am not). The strawberry jam on top added a little too much sweetness and acidity, taking away from the delicate flavor of the curd itself, so we just ended up eating around it.
Went here for my guy’s birthday and we were NOT disappointed. The waitstaff was super friendly, they even let us move tables when we were cold (I recommend a high top table if you’re sitting outside). The hot toddys quickly warmed us up though! The guacamole was very fresh, the fish taco stole the show! We also got the soy tuna tostada which was delicious. Very filling and very reasonably priced for such amazing food.
Holy moly! This is probably my favorite Mexican restaurant in NYC, closely tied with Cosme! The menu is inventive, exploding with flavors with some really unique ingredients and combinations. Very deserving of the Michelin star!!Drinks:- 10/10 el mariachi- great use of hibiscus and maple for sweetening the drink. Loved it!- la flama blanca- excellent citrus mixed with mezcal!Food:- 15/10 - guacamole . Alright you might wonder that it’s hard to mess up guac but the smoked cherry tomatoes really add a nice fuller flavor profile to the guacamole. The whole fried tortilla is a nice touch!- 20/10 - SPRING PEA TLAYUDA. Really get this. No seriously. Let me put it this way, if greens had to make a case that they can be tasty, this would be the dish! I could eat this everyday!- 9/10 - chilaquiles- nothing very special in these chilaquiles and not at the same level as the rest of the dishes. If you’re torn with something else on the menu, give this one a pass.Dessert: we didn’t get a menu so I’m not clear on the names.- 20/10 strawberry compote with hoja Santa custard. It’s super cool to have a savory herb in a custard and it blew our minds. We also learned about a new herb!- 5/10 r tres leche- they had an interesting twist to tres leche but frankly, give it a pass. The cake was too dry and not what I would have expected from a tres leche!Enjoy!
What a delicious, refreshing, and unique meal! Cocktails are a little pricey for what they are so I think you can skip it but two things you can’t skip are the tuna tostada and the spring pea tlayudas. Everything was so vibrant in flavor and presentation. We also got the chilaquiles which were delicious. The staff is very friendly and the restaurant is beautiful. I will definitely be coming back here.
Had a lovely experience at Oxomoco. We tried a number of different items on the menu. My favourites were the chips and salsa, you get so many different salsas to try and they’re all unique and interesting. The lamb barbacoa tacos were super tasty and I wish we had ordered more of them.We also ordered the Pollo a las brazas (chicken taco sharer). To be honest we could have skipped this as it was a little dry, this was the only underwhelming dish we had though. Also one of the best margaritas I’ve ever had!
Wow! Wow! Wow! Exquisite food with tastes that want you to keep coming back for more until you have the next dish. Rinse. Repeat. The service was also flawless, welcoming and generous. Hats off to Greta, our waitress. She was informative and very personable. This place is definitely one of my faves!
Theres a reason Oxomoco (oh-sho-mo-co) is a straight up sensation in the Brooklyn restaurant scene. And after having dinner here, I am now truly on the hype train.Theres plants, a swanky backlit bar, high ceilings, cracked walls and an expansive view into the kitchen. Its a delight. We started off with some of the inventive cocktaiks on the menu, and a bowl of the Red Peanuts. These were topped with chili/garlic, and I couldnt stop eating these! For apps, we got the Oxomoco Guacamole and the Market Corn Tlayuda. The Guac was fiercely addictive- a blend of smoked veggies, creamy avocados and rich queso fresco. And the tlayuda was insane- a crispy, thin crust tortilla topped with corn, a tangy salsa, refried beans, stringy string cheese and herbs.Next thing we jumped on was the wildly popular dish titled Pollo a las Brazas. Its a wood fire grilled half chicken, lathered in honey, chile salsa and garlic. The huge plate is accompanied with some savory crispy rice, and soft taco tortillas. You simply cannot regret ordering this.We ended the meal with Hoja (pronounced o-haa) Santa Curd. This was one of the finest desserts Ive ever had. Its tarty, its tangy, and has a remarkable texture. The dessert custard is topped with smoked strawberries, lemon drizzle, blended hoja santa and I want to say shaved ice too.For me, the Michelin star is well earned, and I would recommend this blindly if you are craving fancy mexican food.10/10 would go back again!
We got the guac and all three meat tacos. Definently the best guac and tacos Ive ever eaten. The lamb and pork ones were the best the meat was the only one not as good. It was tender but was sweet and very oily.the desert was a herb-infused yogurt almost. Liquid like texture with shaved and diced strawberries on top. Surprisingly light and very flavorful. Service wasnt bad but not great. For the price, its Michelin-quality food for a very reasonable price. Definetly a place you have to go if you like Mexican cuisine.
Fusion cuisine based on Mexican cuisine. Perfect combination of flavors and textures. I especially recommend the shrimp ceviche, the lamb tacos, and the zucchini flower tacos, asparagus and morels. Elegantly presented dishes. Fantastic frozen drinks (strawberry rhubarb and coconut with pineapple). For the last the desser was a really chocholate delight!!! Good music and professional service. I highly recommend.
Was really excited to try this place for having a Michelin star. The food was good but not mind blowing. We ordered the guacamole, market corn tlayuda, flank steak tacos, and the paloma for the drink. The guacamole was good with the dill on top and I liked the fried corn tortilla chips that came with it, but you can definitely find good chips and guacamole for cheaper elsewhere. The corn tlayuda was probably my favorite dish here but it was still a little heavy. Lastly, the tacos were just meh. Too much oil and spice and did not get a lot of taco flavor. Aside from the food, the service was good and the ambiance was very cute. But overall, one visit was plenty for me to experience Oxomoco.
The key point here is how fresh everything came. The best thing on the menu was easily the guacamole, which was completely unexpected for me. The addition of the cheese and refreshing pops of tomato elevated the dish past any other guac I’ve tried. I also really enjoyed the tlayuda (Mexican pizza), the crust was crunchy but chewy at the same time? Happy our waiter convinced us to try it because it definitely was the most interesting thing on the menu! One thing that could have been better was the tuna tostada, it was amazing in every single way expect for the fact that it was a bit too salty for me. However, because the flavors were so good, I’d easily order it again. The lamb tacos were cooked extremely well, but I think there could have been more flavors (an added sauce/crema) that could push it over the edge. Outside of the food, the overall experience was pretty seamless. Even though we ordered 4 dishes it definitely felt extremely filling and was worth the price. Would definitely stop by again.
What a place. Great, friendly staff, an incredibly well-lit and green interior, and dish after dish that made this a true food experience. The tuna tostada was unlike anything I had ever tasted, the squash tacos were unbelievably flavorful and juicy, and the the Oaxaca chocolate cake was possibly the best dessert I’ve ever had. 10/10 would recommend to everyone
I don’t know where to begin….place is aaahhmazing!!! The guac is to die for!!! From the mature cilantro to the smoky tomatoes it is just scrumptious!! Amazing drinks(the frozen margarita and the Paloma are purrrrfect)! The Cesar salad wow what a nice twist!! They truly deserve their Michelin star!!!Love love love it!!!
We arrived for our reservation and weren’t seated for 30 minutes BUT they were so apologetic and made it up to us by providing multiple free appetizers and free desserts. It was very appreciated & felt like a classy move. Every single thing I ate here was amazing. Even the peanuts appetizer was the best peanuts I’ve ever eaten. The dried mango was also so good, came nice and hot to the table. I got the lamb tacos and they were so good, maybe wish they had a bit more sauce but then you would miss the intricate tastes of the meat. Definitely seems like the thing to get at oxomoco! also the tuna tostada was so tasty & flavorful. I split it with a few other people and it felt like enough! Highly recommend this place for the way they take care of their customers, for the exquisite food, and for the beautiful interior.
Oxomoco has this airy and bright indoor space. I thought I wondered into a green oasis. The Oaxaca cuisine got lots of modern twist in this establishment, but in a delicious way. The smoked cherry tomatoes elevated the guacamole. The secret hot sauce was drizzled on top of the corn tlayuda, beautifully presented and spicy up the melting cotija and roasted corn. The flank steak was cooked perfect. That salsa macha reminded me Lao Gan Ma chili sauce from China. Among all the brunch dishes, I enjoyed the wood fire romaine the most. The cotija, the masa crunch and the fire gave this simple green a complex profile.
This place feels like youre not even in New York City anymore. Beautiful ambiance, AMAZING food and really cool interior design. I would come back here, no problem. The only con Id have is the food came out a little slower compared to other restaurants in NYC but if you have good company that shouldnt matter.
It’s very very good but definitely overhyped? I wouldn’t travel from far away to go here I’m sure there’s comparable (at least in New York). I will definitely go back because we live in the area. The salad trio was amazing and, ok fine, I would say travel for that. The big plates are definitely made to be shared. The tacos come with two tacos per order. The margs are fine. They’re good but I think I’ve had better.Pricey but not obnoxiously so. $16 for two small tacos.
Food and service was top notch. Got there early for brunch out on the covered patio. It was very hot out but under the patio it was nice and cool. Drinks were well crafted and tasty. Its worth a stop in for brunch. Will update my review for my next trip her for dinner indoors.
If youre around anyway or want to stroll through Greenpoint and are willing to spend about $100 per person for a taco dinner, go for it, the food is okay!We love spicy Mexican food, but here all our starters were unfortunately totally over-seasoned and too spicy, so you couldnt taste the actual food anymore. Too ambitious! The tacos in the main course were good, but nothing special. The service doesnt let you catch your breath, the dishes come too fast and it makes you feel a bit rushed. The food overall is okay, a little too expensive and too hyped for what it is.
Learning this place has a Michelin definitely shakes my faith in the organization. The steak tartare is an unappetizing mound of beef, mixed with dry chili, and sprinkled in crickets. The same chili also covers the smoked mango, which is basically candied fruit and not something you would want as an appetizer. The same chili also covers your margarita, making everything taste pretty much the same. The only contrasting flavor was a squash taco dripping with some honey liquid. The only decent item on the $200 bill was the fish tacos, but even those are uninspiring and overpriced.I will give them credit, the interior is beautiful and the menu items look spectacular on paper, but everything is downhill from there. I made the mistake of reserving a table outside which is pretty dim and depressing. Its been weeks since Ive been here and still find myself wondering how this place is so popular.
Wow! What an experience. I’ve been going to Oxomoco once a month ever since I found this gem. Transport your self to an airy oasis while in Greenpoint Brooklyn. Great wood fired food & amazing cocktails. Must try the Caesar salad, corn tlayuda (seasonal), chilaquiles and carnita tacos.
We came here for our wedding anniversary and had the most amazing time! Peter was absolutely an amazing server - attentive, informed, very polite, and made our experience truly special. 5 stars for Peter!!!! The food, cocktails and dessert were so good - hands down chocolate cake was one of the best we’ve ever had. Did not disappoint, can’t wait to go back!
Alyssa our waitress is a true professional. She worked around my crazy allergies kindly and wonderfully. I cannot say enough how much I appreciate her. She guided me to the lamb tacos and they were delish!!! Also the chocolate dessert was amazing. Thank you to whoever put the bench in the bathroom. It made it easy to change my baby. Great outdoor covered space and indoor/outdoor space.
I rarely write reviews, but I always read and rely on them when looking at restaurants. After having a terrible experience here for a birthday dinner for my partner, I feel I have to warn others - while the food seemed to be as advertised, this is not an establishment worth patronizing. Overall it was one of the worst dining experiences Ive had.I had made a reservation a month or two in advance, and had no problems until seated. Off the bat, something was not quite right with our server. She told us it would take 45 minutes to an hour to get food so we should order everything at once, quickly - however the food came out after about five minutes, and we had barely finished chewing before she whisked the plates off the table. Mind you, on this Saturday night there were no groups waiting, and there were even a few empty tables in the patio area. The last straw was when she took a half-full drink off the table without asking. I stood up and had to follow the waitress to take the drink back!At that point I spoke with the manager, explaining the service situation and she was very understanding and tried to make things right. However we decided that we would just take uneaten food to go and leave immediately to end the charade. While this is just an isolated incident and one of over a thousand reviews, I have a feeling that this uniquely poor service is indicative of a deeper management, staffing, or organizational culture issue with this restaurant. Needless to say, this cannot be the same restaurant that earned a Michelin star years ago.
We had an amazing meal at Oxomoco, and I can’t wait to go again. We went for brunch and my friend got chilaquiles while I got the carnitas tacos. Both were absolutely delicious. I think the carnitas tacos were the best I’ve ever had, better than even some amazing tacos I’ve had in Mexico City. The pork was perfectly tender with a crusty outside on every bite, the chicharron added such a crispy texture, and the herbs were perfect. The chiliquiles had a spice crumble that was so unique and flavorful. The mango frozen drink and spicy margarita were amazing as well!
I was so excited, based on the ratings and photos. But it was extremely underwhelming. The star dish was the lamb tacos. The absolute worst was the mango. It was spicy, chewy, and *candied*— not at all what I want at dinner. The prices were steep—$20 for two tacos—and unfortunately unearned.
Yesterday was my first time dining at Oxomoco in about a year, but my 6th time total. This restaurant used to be one of my favorites of all time, but last night was a huge disappointment. The service, food, and vibe has declined since I used to regularly dine here. It started off great, we ordered drinks and they were delicious! We put in our order and from there we felt very rushed. My friend and I were asked FOUR times if we were finished with our salad as I was actively eating from the plate. It wasnt just us, the couples on either side of us expressed that they were very annoyed by this as well. We joked that we had to hold on to our plates so they wouldnt take them. Then one of our main dishes came out (sweet potato tlayuda) and it was very sub-par and tasted like it had been sitting out for a while. Again, as we were eating the staff asked if we were finished. Luckily, the lamb tacos came and were incredible. It was my friends birthday and I think they recognized that we were irked by the service, so they send out a complimentary dessert which was nice. But after our meal, my friend and I were just sipping our drinks and the glass was in my hand, the staff asked AGAIN if we were finished with our drinks. It was crazy. In addition, the temperature inside the restaurant was very cold, because of the outdoor dining and staff going in-and-out, to the point were a lot of the guests were wearing their jackets. Overall, it just wasnt the vibe and Im hoping this was just a one-time bad experience.
Update: management has reached out to me which is very appreciated. The food andDrink are 10/10. Innovative & flavorful without being overdone. Too bad the service is doesn’t match the food. Especially from a place with. A MICHELIN STAR! It’s like they let a few random 20yr olds run amuck. So much of a good food experience is with friendly service: I felt like I was the nerd in HS vying for attention and approval from the wait staff (perhaps Bc I am a middle age woman? The single men seemed to be getting a lot of attention) Union sq cafe may not be as innovative but at least I wouldn’t feel unappreciated.
Food was fine. It is a “good” restaurant; however, to be Michelin rated is a far stretch. The service was lackluster with wait times of over an hour wait between small plates and entrees. The drinks were adequate but can easily be replicated at your local tiki bar. The servers were extremely kind and knowledgeable and are in no way at fault. It is general management and kitchen staff that operated at the efficiency of a chilis that’s going out of business. From entry to departure there wasn’t a moment where I thought “wow this is exceptional.” In essence, the visit can be best defined as disappointing.
Delicious and such a beautiful venue! The bar is gorgeous, but probably more vibrant during the day. This was the first indoor dining experience I had since the pandemic started and it didn’t disappoint.Oxomoco was sparsely filled, staff was very attentive and drinks came timely. The food was delicious. We had guacamole, crudo that was delicious, a fish app, and tacos (recommend the flank steak!) and were very full. Would definitely go back.
The food was ok, we had low expectations for it already anyway. The vibes were good, but the service could have been a lot better! Our server never really checked on us, which we didn’t mind, but he didn’t see that one of the appetizers we ordered never hit the table. We got charged for it in the end but they took it out of the bill after we let him know. Also, their host team NEEDS to communicate special requests from their Resy app like birthdays and birthday candles in the dessert because our server was clueless about my boyfriend’s birthday so they didn’t put a birthday candle in his dessert like I had asked.
I would describe the food as innovative and higher end Mexican cuisine. The food could be improved by adding just a bit more seasoning to enhance the flavor of the food. The lamb barbacoa tacos were really good as well as most of the seafood appetizers we tried. The tuna tostada was one of my favorites. The tuna with crickets was an interesting concept but the crispness of the insects did not really go well. The drinks were all really good and the service was friendly and attentive. I would definitely recommend trying this place out as its a nice change from the typical Mexican restaurant
I always liked this place but the food has gone downhill recently. I think restauarnts always get better then drop and it cycles a lot. right now its not its best but still better than lots of latino eats around. i hope they get better again. if you think u will go then taste the margarits and the salsas, also the shrimp one and the big steak are pretty dope.
We came here on a Sunday 5:30 dinner reservation indoors, hoping for a special night that’s comparable to Claro, another Mexican one star we really liked. While the interior is beautiful and service was alright, to our disappointment, food is waaaay too salty and no other taste profile whatsoever. We ordered the beef tartar tostada, tuna tostada, barbacoa tacos and swordfish tacos, and we literally couldn’t finish all of it because of the salt that lingers even hours after we left. Plating was uninspiring for a one star restaurant.
Phenomenal atmosphere, cocktails, service and food. Drinks - highly recommend the Sin Fronteras for whiskey/mezcal fans. Food - Guac (amazing, best restaurant guac Ive ever ordered), Black Bass (yes), Tuna Tostada (yes yes), Ceviche (yes yes yes), Bavette (yes but no if you dont like mole) and Spring Pea Tlayuda (my favorite dish, have never had anything like it). Would come back in a heart beat next time Im in Brooklyn.
Loved the food. Truly creative and unexpected flavors. I ate all vegetarian dishes (Im not) and based on descriptions, I expected vegetal but it was not at all. Flavor bursts, unique combos. Food worthy of the michelin star, not necessarily the service.Had popcorn (amazing), Mango (excellent), peanuts given to us accidentally (just OK), guac (different but enjoyed), asparagus and morel tacos (great) and spring pea tlayuda (great). Husband also had the tuna tostada which he loved.
Absolutely LOVE this place! Boyfriend brought me here for a surprise birthday dinner and I fell head over heels - the design of the interior and exterior make you feel like you’re dining in Mexico City and the food / cocktail menu is incredible ! Also a few blocks from Transmitter Park which makes for a perfect after meal scenic walk:)
Food was very delicious. Highlights were definitely the tacos, especially the pork cheek carnitas and the lamb barbacoa. Skip the soft shell crab taco though, at $22 for 2 the flavor/taste did not live up to the price. The beef tartar was a favorite of the apps.Service was friendly but not attentive. Tables around us all had issues getting their food within a reasonable timeframe, if at all. The server hardly noticed the problem until people tried flagging her down multiple times. Never came by to ask if how the food was or took additional drink orders. The hostess, however, was courteous and filled in for the server to take care of the problems and apologized to the customers. This restaurant has the potential to be phenomenal if service is improved.
Well worth the money! These were some of the best tacos I ever had. Maybe it was the restaurant ambiance, maybe it was the amount of meat on each taco, or maybe it was just the Michelin Star. But no matter, it was about as good as it gets. Nothing is as authentic as tacos from Mexico or Oaxaca but this is an more upscale take with higher quality ingredients. The steak was melt in your mouth juicy. The tuna was meaty and juicy. The chicken topped with the fried chicken skin, genius! The shrimp served fried couldn’t have been a better idea. The lamb Barbacoa, pure lamb gamey goodness. The guacamole and homemade chips was you guessed it, perfect. The tuna tartare was very interesting, reminded me of the flavor of soy sauce. To finish the night, I sampled all three desserts and my favorite was of course the chocolate then carrot cake then sesame. The sesame was most interesting but I love chocolate too much to pass it as my favorite.
We went to dinner last night 2/13/21 and let me tell you! The service was a 15/10. Everyone was so nice & helpful & attentive. Our server gave us great recommendations and the food was absolutely out of this world. The restaurant is gorgeous. The bathrooms are also very cool. Highly highly recommend!!
This was absolutely worth the trip to Brooklyn. Service was attentive without being overbearing, and every single bite was delicious. The steak tacos were our favorite and the carrot cake was divine. All things considered, it was a good value as well. Id absolutely brave the G train (or take a lyft) to visit again.
Finally tried the brunch and couldnt have been happier! With the lack of good breakfast burritos in NYC, I was glad to see that Oxomoco created a brunch menu. There was exactly the right proportion of potatoes and bacon, and cooked to perfect in the bacon burrito. I would like if they had some brunch specials on cocktails, but the food is worth the visit regardless. Will definitely be back for brunch soon!
Food was ok. It was an interesting experience because DOH interrupted our meal. We received one item we ordered and then the kitchen went sterile for 30 minutes. Once the kitchen reopened our meal continued. The best thing we ate were the fried shrimp tacos, which we unfortunately watched get dropped on the table next to us....then walk around the restaurant and back to the kitchen before they finally made it to us 4-5 minutes after they were plated.
Oxomoco is cute little spot in Greenpoint. We love there tacos. Top of my list Beef shrimp and chicken.Taco price a little too high. 2 for $19 or 3 for 24.I was pretty disappointed on there drinks. I was really looking forward to there orange margarita. It was water down.I asked for the burger that was in yelp. Looks like that’s only available for brunch. 😭I’ll come back for brunch and definitely try the burger.
Youve got to be joking! Im only allowed to give Oxomocco 5 stars? Ridiculous. Oxomocco deserves all of the stars in the Milky Way. Oxomocco is equal parts hipster and comfy, with walls bleached by the sun, soft ambient light, and greenery galore. Peter, our server, and Catarina, the GM, were simply lovely, like golden violets in a little flower pot. The kitchen at Oxomoco is its beating heart. Delicious food, beautifully presented, and kissed by fire with flavors Ive never had before. The thick crispy corn tortillas tasted more like corn than corn and the eye popping smoked strawberry chilled granita was perfect for patio dining on a warm summer evening. Cocktails are inventive, classic, and refreshing with a bottomless array of tequila and mezcal. For Mexican food aficionados who are familiar with Cosme in Manhattan, head over to Oxomoco in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Your taste buds with explode with complex and unusual flavors, spiked with serrano chilis and a dusting of magic, all for a price that wont make your heart skip a beat. Oxomocco es Comida de Los Dioses! Gracias!
Amazing wood-fired Modern Mexican cuisine from Chef Justin Bazdarich of Speedy Romeo. Everything we ate was so vibrant and flavorful and the space with its sun-roof and white-washed brick walls is absolutely gorgeous! Must try their guacamole, Thalyuda, shrimp tacos, charred carrot tamal, and Pollo alas Brasas and leave room for their amazing raspberry tres leches & Hoya santo curd desserts!
Went there exactly at noon when it first opened for the day. No one was there but it quickly filled up as the hour went by. The food was plentiful and delicious. We ate at the VIP benches overlooking the kitchen. That was a nice treat to see how everything is made. The waitresses are very friendly and eager to please.
Go here. Dont think twice. From before arriving the service was excellent, we got a table last minute at by the kitchen but my husband is a chef so we were happy with that. The food is delicious. Flavorful and fresh, authentic full bodied flavour. I love the ambience, busy but not so loud. Restaurants with multiple types of seating options know what they are doing. Thank you for the wonderful meal, from the guac, tlayuda, babacoa tacos, chicken... Oh that chicken! Just fantastic!
Cocktails and service were amazing! Food didnt impress us much. The bar tender and the server were extremely nice and very willing to customize our cocktails for us! The vibe of the place is excellent. Perfect for a quick date night or an evening out with friends.Talking about food, both the the guacamole and the tacos lacked flavor. The meat for the tacos was cooked just right yet the other ingredients in the tacos didnt seem to go right with the meats.I have heard better things about their brunch food though so might return someday to give the food another try.
Here, food takes you through an odyssey of unexpected flavors and surprising textures that make you feel in Mexico without the traffic. Amazing food and mouthful drinks at incredibly accessible prices. This place became a top of New York City’s cuisines! 100% recommended!
One of my favorites spots, from the food to the decor; can’t get enough! The menu for brunch and dinner are slightly different so take note of that. They used to have a maitake mushroom taco that was unreal (hope they bring it back 🤞🏼), the wood fired Caesar salad is really good as is the shrimp ceviche tostada. And if you’re there for brunch, don’t sleep on the masa griddle cakes.
The first thing that hits you when you enter is how brightens welcoming the space is! The food was great, we got a shrimp tostada, beet chorizo salad and a burrito. Our server was friendly although because it was so busy, we had to place additional orders with other staff who forgot about our no dairy request and one of the junior staff was unable to answer a question about the menu. Just needs some polishing and this restaurant will be 5 stars!
Very interesting mexican place! The restaurant is super cool and fancy, i like the white interiors. I went for dinner with 2 friends.Food was very different from all the authentic mexicans i was used to but tasty and good.Branzino eith pesto was excellent and carnitas tacos as well.My vodka tangerine cocktail was on point.I definitely want yo go back for breakfast to try their burrito!
I consider myself a foodie, and this might be one of the best meals Ive had this year. The food can be described as mexican street fare with a flare. Its flavorful and fun. The waitress was attentive and made great recommendations. Would suggest the tuna, corn & lamb.
We had such a wonderful time, the service is imecable and their food absolutely delishious, the chicken, the beef and the prawns we enjoyed very much, also the mouse and raspberry desert incredible, also you much tey El mariachi drink and much more. Thank you for the great diner.
I was slightly nervous Id find Oxomoco to be similar to another moderate to high end Mexican restaurant that opened in gowanus a year ago; overhyped and only okay. This wasnt the case. Excellent space, layout and vibes. Good service and the food was spectacular. Each dish felt like itd had a significant amount of planning. You cant go wrong here.
I was in Green point and really wanted tacos and tequila. I did a search and this was the closest place I could find. When I got there and looked at the menu I realized it was brunch and there were NO tacos. I struggled to find something else on the menu (I’m vegan and gluten free due to allergies.) The waiter came and I told him my deal, and he recommended to me what I could try, which was not much to be honest. I went with his recommendation of the carrot salad. I didn’t have high expectations, but I was actually blown away. It was amazing, unique, and like nothing I’ve tasted before. The whole place was also beautiful. The waiter was so nice and knowledgeable about the dishes, and all his recommendations were great.
Amazing tacos!! Had the chicken al pastor, lamb barbacoa, and the flank steak tacos, ranked in that order. The chicken was amazing juicy and smoky with grilled pineapple. We also ordered the shrimp ceviche and the smoked mango, which is like your moms healthy dried mango snacks but spicy 🔥 and a million times more exciting. Would love to come back and try the rest of the tacos!
Genuinely one of the best restaurant experiences me and my partner have ever had and we go out quite frequently. We ordered the steak and it was one of the best we have ever had. Service was flawless and very warm. Definitely worth the splurge and traveling out of your way for.
Busy restaurant, highly recommend making a reservation as far in advance as possible. Literally ALWAYS packed. Great selection of margaritas at a fair price ($14). My friends tried the frozen paloma and loved it. During the summer, they have a frozen watermelon marg that is to die for. Bonus points for their vegan options - I had the beet (chorizo) tacos and found them to be both tasty and filling. Waiter was super knowledgable on how to veganize the menu, and turned around our orders in record time. Decent amount of seating, can accomodate larger parties if you give them a heads up.
AMAZING. I came with high expectations and they deliver. Food could not be better. I had the 4 tacos selections, the “pizza” tostada, and the Tuna Tostada for appetizer and everything was delicious. We even had to order a second round of the steak tacos. Service was excellent as well. Highly recommended, I would eat here again. No
The guacamole was good. The lamb barbacoa omg, the meat was so tender and juicy. The chicken al pastor was very average. The ambiance was chill, I really enjoyed it. My only complaint was we were constantly trying to get the attention of our server. He was visibly hanging out with the bartender. We asked him to pack our food and he never brought it out.
Incredible food, impeccable service, thank you Lucy, and beautiful decor and ambiance. Oh, did I mention the food is incredible? I thought the prices were very fair compared to the quality you are getting. The beet chorizo, tuna, and steak tacos were all absolutely delicious. Honestly couldn’t pick a favorite. The drinks were great too. Make a reservation and enjoy. 5 stars is not enough. I only took a picture of the appetizer, punta verde Caesar, my bad.
The only thing I could say that could be better about this meal is the tortilla for my tacos. Dont get me wrong, the tortilla was wonderfully crafted, but definitely some room for improvement from a top restaurant.Besides that, this meal was delightful. You must get the caesar salad
Really chill ambiance, I felt like I was in Southern California with the pale walls and plants everywhere. The food is really tasty, and the drinks are good. My favorite was the dessert cocktail that reminded me of an espresso martini. This is a nice place to impress a date or have a special celebration like a birthday.
My wife and I came from Michigan to visit some friends in NY. We went here to get out the Michelin Star rated food and was not disappointed. Everything we ordered was awesome and nothing to complain about. The price isnt soo outrageous either the food portions are good for what you pay. Service was great friendly. We will definitely come back here when back in NY area.
The menu was very inventive and the atmosphere was nice, but this place is a bit overpriced for what it is. My companions said their drinks were also very overpriced for how watered down they were. They’re also stingy about chips? The tuna tartare was very good. I also liked the beet tacos. They were roasted and savory.
Honestly this place is barely even worth being petty about. But for a Michelin star restaurant to have such poor service as well as mediocre food and cocktails, it just ended up really disappointing all around. Really bummed, and if you want any advice dont waste your time or money.
A travel for the senses from start to finish,we came for a late brunch today and were expecting good food ..we had GREAT food and exceptional service,we were so impressed with the whole experience ,the explosion of flavour, colour and texture was just above and beyond. Can only recommend !!!
Two tacos are plenty, dont go crazy like I did. Service was middling, staff could be a little friendlier. Cauliflower was amazing, steak tacos were my favorite and thats not really my go to. Tuna tostada was devine. The bathroom is pretty cool too. Oh and the chocolate cake for dessert!
Food was inconsistent. Some of the dishes (scallop agua chile, soft shell crab tacos, barbacoa tacos) were wonderful while some were just insipid (chicken tacos, heirloom tomato salad special). Nothing to complain about the drinks and service though. Great vibe to the place too. But a must visit? Nah.
Unfortunately I can’t recommend this restaurant. We were really excited but there were many issues. First, the restaurant was really loud and dim. It was super hard to talk to my companions and the music gave me a headache. Our entrees also took an hour to arrive. Our server tried to make the best of the situation but ultimately couldn’t really do much since there was some issue with the kitchen. The actual food was very salty.Ultimately I’m very puzzled how this restaurant got a Michelin star. Definitely not what I was expecting
Really wanted to like this place but after 5 meals here (brunch and dinner), I think there are better spots for tacos and Mexican food. Some of the flavors are incredibly unique but some of the stalwart menu items (tlayuda, half chicken and tacos) were disappointing. Beautiful setting and good service.
Any place that can make chips and salsa interesting is worth trying. A trio of homemade sauces accompanies homemade tortilla chips.. including one that is a Mexican twist of the popular Chinese condiment called old lady sauce. I liked it so much I bought a bottle. Chilaquiles were equally well done (and made even better by saving the sauces for the mains). Drinks were solid tho less memorable. Space is beautiful.. even indoors feels safe in this era of dining. Its not cheap but tbh Mexican is undervalued given the effort it takes to cook it... I felt like I got good value for my money... will be back!
We went on Halloween for dinner and it was nice. I was expecting more in the food experience and the service, as it is a Michelin star restaurant, but overall I am happy to have gone.Would I go here anytime soon, no, but it was nice to have experienced it. I was not blown away by the food. The chips and salsa ok - try something else instead. The lamb barbacoa tacos were nice. The shrimp tostada was good. The steak bavette was nice.I was hoping for a hot chocolate drink as it was a tad cool outside, but they didn’t have that, nor did they have any churros with chocolate. If you want a very delicious seafood tostada, Mariscos Tacos is delicious.Tacombi, precovid, used to make a delicious barbacoa taco, but they still won’t bring it back now that NYC is reopening again.Any recommendations on barbacoa tacos? Please let me know.Anyway, it is nice to check this place out. Nice Mexican food - was expecting something that would Trump the other Mexican restaurants that I have had, but it did not.
Great experience with indoor dining! Please be aware of the 1 hour 30 min time limit to your reservation! The menu selection of appetizers, main course & drinks are great. The atmosphere is modern and the food is culturally atune with the taste of Mexico! Overall the service provided by the staff was beyond pleasant & excellent. Will definitely visit this place again.
Oxomoco is overrated. They have interesting presentation - for example a different kind of chip with their guacamole. They also have lovely space and good service. Thats where it ends. The food is an attempt to go modern on authentic but they lost distinctive taste/flavor somewhere along the line. This is one of four modern fusion type Mexican restaurants I have eaten at & its the least compelling. There are dishes that you wont find on middle range Mexican menus but you can find similar & better prepared versions at the better hole in-the-wall spots where Mexican immigrants eat. Also like most spots that cater to early thirties the seating is a joke, bring a cushion.
Went here for a birthday brunch as a group of 8 with a 1215pm reservation. A few people in the party were late but they still let whoever had arrived be seated, which I liked. Its nice and spacious inside and very cute and then theres outdoor seating in the front. It was not overly crowded or overwhelming, which was a big plus. Our waitress Daniela was so nice and accommodating with our drink selections and what not!! And I love that she didnt rush us out of there. All of their cocktails sound so delicious but I stuck to the amor salvaje ... it was very good.We got chips and guac and patatas bravas for the table to share- both were good.Everyone either ordered the breakfast burrito or the chilaquiles. Burrito is the way to go if you want something filling. One person got the pork carnitas tacos and said they were really good.Would def come back here to try some of their other drinks and tacos next time!
Pro tip: its pronounced Oh-sho-mo-ko. Good luck on those cocktail names, though :)Amazing experience on their first official night open! Delicious and intriguing food, refreshing (and beautiful) summer cocktails in the lovely outdoor seating area, friendly/attentive/knowledgeable servers, and a gorgeous space. Will definitely be coming back soon.
All round excellent meal.Had the El Mariachi cocktail, which was on point. For food we had the spiced mango to start which was a nice little snack, the tuna tostada was absolutely delicious, and the pea and mint tlayuda a light and pleasant surprise. The hero of the show was the lamb barbacoa tacos: juicy, crispy and tender all at the same time, and brimming with flavour - a must.
Creative and fantastic Mexican fare. We tried the sweet potato aperitivo, as well as the beet, carnitas, and lamb tacos. All the dishes we ordered were excellent, with the lamb tacos being the highlight of the meal. The drinks and dessert were fantastic additions as well. The venue was spacious and sparsely filled, so we felt very safe dining indoors. The service was friendly and on point, although you will have to be patient for your food as it can take a little while for the plates to come out.Easy 5/5 and would highly recommend for a less traditional Mexican experience.
Well deserved Michelin star for outstanding cooking. Exquisite and exciting food (and I am really not too much into Mexican fare usually). Great Mezcal varieties on top.We still had dinner inside (which was great, if a bit loud). I am not so sure however whether their outdoor pavilion is really sufficient against the cold in this pandemic winter...
Really disappointed. Prices were fair, atmosphere was fine, Service was fine, the food.....was just ok. Definitely doesnt deserve a Michelin star, the pretentious small plates with no real flair or distinct flavoring, I expected smoky, sweet, vibrant flavors but got much more middle of the road fare, I got the $18 lamb tacos and half of one of the taco had a bone in it. The nachos were 4 whole corn tortillas with way more salsa than tortillas. Expected a lot more, theres much better cheaper Mexican food in areas like Sunnyside and Bushwick, and better top end Mexican restaurants thought the city.
Mixed experience, first had to wait 20 minutes to be seated even though we had a reservation and awkwardly stand around the host stand with servers constantly going around us. They gave us a free order of guacamole because of it but it was still not an ideal start. Then the table we were seated at had a broken heater and was the closest table to the door which was constantly opening and closing, so it was pretty freezing. Obviously during non covid times this wouldnt be an issue, but I have to judge it based on right now. The food was good and came out on time, but some of it was a bit expensive for the portions. But it was all tasty.
Best steak tacos I’ve ever had anywhere period. To die for, I order every few weeks cause I can’t resist even though it’s basically $20+ for three tacos delivered.. I thought the guac was good but it got polarizing reviews from people I shared it with. Papas Bravas were also very good. Oxomoco definitely lives up to the hype.

2022-01-02Loved this restaurant so much! The vibe was super cozy and modern. The staff was friendly without being overbearing. And the food was so good. There are definitely some more adventurous options on the menu (purple tortilla pizza) that you need to be open minded about, but there were also a lot of great classics like the guacamole and tostada. TRY THE CHICKEN, if your not vegetarian. It was hands down the best chicken Ive had in New York in a while. The skin was flavorful and crispy, but the meat was still juice and tender.

2021-12-31We chose this restaurant for a birthday celebration. The general manager took care of us. She was friendly and efficient. The food, ambience, service was excellent. I particularly liked my Guava Margaritta. Delicious! My only criticism is that it was cold in the restaurant generally. There was a draft and we needed to keep a layer on to stay warm. Other than that it was faultless.

2022-05-27Amazing place. Paolo on is probably one or the best restaurant so far in Brooklyn in my opinion. The ambiance, the decor mixed with old industry and modern = beautiful !The food phenomenal ! Loved it. Recommend to anybody. The service was also great, helpful and so friendly!

2022-01-13Extremely good service, amazing food and margarita! Highly recommend it and would love to go back.We only weren’t too fussed about the special of the week? with truffles that ended up costing almost $50.Nice but mostly laid back place, used to have a Michelin star?

2022-05-24I had reservations for a Thursday evening for 2 on the patio/terasse. Everything was on time and we did not have to wait for our table. We ordered drinks as well as a meal and dessert. The drinks were great and generous with the alcohol. The food was wonderful and the timing between the plates was perfect. My one small irk is with the beef tartar tostada. The dish comes comes with grasshoppers on top. As it is not common to eat grasshoppers, I think it would have been important to mention that they are on the plate. It mentioned grasshopper mayo but it isnt clear that actual full-sized grasshoppers are included on top.Other than that, the atmosphere was lovely and the service was fantastic.

2022-04-17Food wasn’t that bad (was actually relatively flavorful) but there wasn’t anything that made me go “wow this is michelin star meal”Service was extremely sub-par (hence the 2 stars) - waiters were quite curt with us, for no good reason, and half of our food arrived within 10min of us ordering, and the other half took another 40 minutes. If you’re going for a michelin star meal and experience, this place isn’t itAmbience was nice and the drinks looked good (although I didn’t try any of them, so cannot confirm)

2022-04-23Went here for brunch and the food was very good! Unique flavor combinations and riffs on classic dishes. The best part, though, was the chips and salsa which came with six salsas ranging from mild to seventh layer of hell spicy. ALL had amazing flavor!

2022-02-23Truly one of the best meals and dining experiences I’ve had in New York City. World class staff slinging big, bold, beautiful flavors. Everything that me and my brother Evan tried were top notch. Do yourself a kindness and plan to go to this restaurant 2 to 3 times every time you come visit the city.

2021-11-17The food and atmosphere was on point! I love the modern wood and industrial feel. The place was very open and inviting. In regards to the food, the flavor was amazing. Each of the dishes we ordered had its unique flavor profile and experimental touch. The value you get for the food is near perfect. What’s stopping this place from getting a perfect score is it’s attention to detail. Things such as plating and making sure things are aligned properly goes a long way. Adding complementary ingredients to certain dishes like avocado or maybe even cilantro to the steak tacos would helpBalance the flavor profile and provide a better experience.Overall, I highly recommend this place!! Make sure you reserve a table, especially on the weekends and brunch!

2022-05-20Elevated but not pretentious Mexican cuisine in a cozy, light-filled loft space. The best thing we had was the Caesar salad with wood grilled romaine, radish, masa crunch that’s super fresh and flavorful. The pickled veggies are refreshing but very spicy. The tetela was very spring-y in flavors and good brunch choice. The steak tacos were good but not amazing, with a bit too much spicy sauce that overpowering the meat and tortilla. They have frozen drinks on tap and a good selection of wine and some natural wine.
