The person that called me to make an edit to my order was rude as well, I called them back within 2 minutes of them calling me and they stated that I would just have to deal with having fries added to my order since I didnt pick up the first time. the food was bad, the burger buns were soggy, the fried pickles were only about 3 slices and the breading fell off with no effort. the fruit salad just tasted like grapefruit. Also there were no utensils in the bag either, I thought the service and food would be better with how much I paid.
This waiter/owner on the left is the rudest person you will ever run into in your life. I meant rudest person, not rudest waiter. If you don’t want your day ruined by a random guy in a brunch joint, avoid this place at all cost.He scolded at me when I just walked in, and yelled at me to “wait there” while smashing on the wall or table. A bystander told me they think the waiter/owner is crazy and I would 100% agree. When I tried to asked him how long would it take to sit us, he came angrily to me eyeball to eyeball (10 inches, in a COVID setting!!) and said we either wait (still wouldn’t give an estimate) or just go to Burger King.I would strongly recommend anyone to go to Burger King instead since it’s the owner’s own advise and it indeed would be a much better serving experience.
Very tasty fried chicken on buttermilk biscuit. Very tough decision from a menu with so many things I wanted to try!Update: While my photography skills may well have gone downhill, PAKT continues to be excellent. The Jethro Box burger was fantastic (albeit a bit messy to eat in the car) and the side of greens I chose was sublime. I know - its hard to screw up greens - but whatever theyre doing takes it up that extra level.
We ADORE Pakt. Whenever we visit Kingston from our home in Queens NY, we always stop here (at least once). Everyone who works here is kind and helpful and friendly and welcoming. I have a lot of food allergies and they always accomodate me with delicious options. There are vegan dishes. Everything we have ever ordered has been phenomenal. We are addicited to the hush puppies (gf!) and the catfish and the biscuit dishes and the grits. The specials are epically delicious. The vibe is quirky funky and always makes me feel.comfortable and at home. Make a reservation if you are coming at a popular time and there are a few of you. Word of the yummy food has definitely spread! 🤗
As someone who lived in Atlanta for years I was a bit skeptical of a southern restaurant in upstate New York. However, pakt was great and did a good southern food perfectly. I had the breakfast biscuit box which was perfectly executed with a side of grits. Im picky about my grits but enjoyed these. Had a redeye Mary which I was a little intrigued by but the server said it was her favorite so I went with it and it was really good, kind of an deeper, smoked vibe of a bloody mary. Not sure when Ill be back to Kingston but when I am, Ill be sure to stop back at pakt.
Just suffered through one of the worst breakfasts I’ve ever had. Pakt came highly recommended and I’m trying to figure out why. To be fair, two waiters and a bar tender but still 90 minutes for four orders. I ordered the biscuit w chicken confit and eggs florentine. Biscuit hard gravy bland and let’s be honest and call it chicken pot pie. Dry and tasteless. The one upside to the meal was the dipping sauce for the fried pickles, half of which were fried okra w no warning. Partners catfish sandwich tasted like the fryer and pancakes had a hard char, partner said like eating the burnt pieces off a stove. Made the trip down from Albany for this. Would not recommend.
This place has such a welcoming and fantastic environment. The selection of delicious comfort food smashes into the realms of art and fine dining. The staff are upbeat. Quick and efficient. The owner was there hustling with the dinner rush and then came to our table to see how our service was.The building itself is gorgeous and open. Beautiful work by local featured artists hang on the walls.
The owner/ greeter was very rude to our family upon entry to his restaurant. We planned on celebrating a birthday brunch at PAKT however, we were shocked to be ridiculed that my brother had a picture of my vaccine card. His sly remarks and condescending attitude was a disgusting way to start the birthday. It is obvious from reading previous reviews that this is not his first time being ill-mannered, impolite and unpleasant to customers. I would strongly suggest you avoid this place and take your business to an establishment who offers a warm and friendly welcome. We will NOT being offering our patronage nor recommending this restaurant to anyone.
Off beat, slightly renegade, southern style brunch. Only place in NY that Ive found that serves hashbrowns and not home fries. Staff was super friendly and down to earth. Coffee was *amazing*. Wait time was a bit high and you might end up listening to Prince at very high volume but it all contributes to an eclectic and fun atmosphere. A gem of midtown for sure.
Would come here every day if I didnt work almost strictly the hours theyre open. Incredible people (staff and owner) and incredible food. Will always hold a huge place in my heart. Always down for a margarita or a graft cider and hush puppies. The kind of people I want to see more of in this community and in my personal life. Have eaten here before I worked in the service industry and genuinely loved it and since working service industry I appreciate them even more. The staff is always super fun and personable in a way that makes my anxiety melt away. I hope these hush puppies are the ones they serve in hell because I want to eat them forever. I can add bacon or ham to anything and thats what we all need in our lives. The grits arent pale and sad like almost every other place in the tri state area. Absolutely incredible.
We ordered online and were disappointed. For 30 dollars for 2 dishes we were expecting better food. The root veg hash (corrected) was soggy and the cornmeal pancakes aren’t good. The crabby Benedict has potential but needs crab cake needs more of a cook so it’s not mushy.Response to owner: We are minority customers residing in midtown Kingston who have suffered through a pandemic also. We selected to spend our money at your restaurant, the most expensive on Broadway in midtown, out of dozens in Kingston to support a local business. The purpose of Google reviews is for a customer to share their experience. We do so in peace and love. No need to be insulted. You can do better representing Kingston.16 hour shifts but has time to read all my reviews. Im flattered.
I rarely leave the reviews especially not good ones. But the owner/ waiter ? whatever called, he was so rude. Seems like he was very drunk and so loud. We waited for over an hour for our food. One of the order never came. While we were waiting for the waiter to take our order, he went outside and took his pants off , walking with underwear and waved to the cars. Nuts caseI gave 1 star because food was ok. Never again.
I went with my two sons and my 21 yr. old grandson. It was the first time for all of us, so we tried a few things. I had the blackened catfish sandwich with a side of pear slaw. The sandwich was very good, on the other hand the pear slaw was ad if I sprayed perfume in my mouth, terrible after taste. My oldest had the catfish sandwich with the cornmeal batter and Cajun fries, he enjoyed it. My youngest had shrimp and grits along with Chicken and waffles and side of braised greens and sausage gravy too. I tried his grits and shrimp and it was awesome, great flavor. He enjoyed the chicken and waffles but complained that the excessive fluid from the greens had made one waffle soggy. My grandson had the egg skillet and by the time I looked up it was gone. So I guess he enjoyed it.
Friendly staff and an owner who truly cares. Peach habenero bacon, cheese grits with gravy, and biscuits are some of the best things Ive ever eaten. Menu is super customizable, and always filled with interesting specials. Also tasty cocktails and kombucha on tap, and my new favorite thing... cheerwine! Im there weekly for brunch.
To say I was disgusted with this place is an understatement. My family and I waited 2 hour for burnt, cold, greasy, over priced food. We spent over a 100 dollar here for none of our food to be prepared the way it was ordered. We throw out more food then we ate. I even made my child except her meal that was prepared with jalapeños when she hates spicy food. No one who worked their offered to fix anything or remove the item from the bill. Then when I signed on here to make my review and I see the nasty comment they left on a review. Not only is that unprofessional, but a simple apology for a negative experience would have gotten you much further with a customer then nasty excuses for a bad experience. My family will not be back and be sure I will let everyone know about my experience.
This rating is based solely on lunch. Went with a work group and the atmosphere is very laid back. That was fine and the food was ok. I had to send mine back as the steak sandwich was raw, not to mention described as shaved and presented as sliced. The fires were good - deep fried potato wedges more akin to home fries than french fries but thats splitting hairs. Chicken chowder pot pie and the portobello sandwich was good according to those in my group. I would absolutely give this place another try for their breakfast/brunch menu but outside of that, plenty of other places with better prices and comparable or better lunch options.
Great, drinks. I had the veggie Mary with tequila (the tasty and generous steaming mugs of coffee bear mentioning as well) which was solid. We ate the sinfully delicious biscuits and gravy greedily, both having spent time in the south and appreciating such a rare (for Ulster Co) pleasure. Service was friendly and accommodating and they were kind enough to be cool with two old nerdy friends catching up and lingering a bit over a very enjoyable meal.
Food and drinks were both amazing. And our server was hysterical. Had us belly laughing (regretfully cannot remember his name). Super cool artwork everywhere you look as well. I wish we lived closer so we could return more often! Love it here! Thanks to the men at the Blue Cashew for the recommendation!
This place is like having home cooked southern meals someone’s mama would make you if you lived down south! The fried chicken is the best I’ve ever had - EVER! My friend and I went the first time and were not so satisfied with the meal or the service, but everyone has an off day (we are all human). Being an adult and all, I private messaged them and explained my experience. The owner, Eryn, responded and not only was I blown away with the polite response letting us know that she was just as unhappy that we didn’t enjoy it (this tells you that she cares and you can’t say that for about 90% of the businesses out there), but she also wants every single person to enjoy the FINGER LICKING DELICIOUS food!! Eryn invited us back to to get the experience she KNOWS her staff and her can and do provide on the daily! This woman is AMAZING! The fact that she took the time out of her day to respond was great, but to ensure us that the meal we had there the first time was not the standards that she sets for her restaurant was unbelievably humble!!! She was completely right! We went back today and man, OH man did we lick our plates clean! Pakt is one of very few places I will visit in Kingston, and that goes for me and my friend who is a Chef. My friend had a side of Eryn’s sausage gravy and said it’s the BEST, BEST she’s ever had, and let me tell you that my friend lives for gravy, so coming from her that is a huge compliment! I could go on and on for another page about how amazing this place is from the food, to the service, to the dedication of the owner (who is the executive chef there), but I’ll just leave you with this - If you want that southern comfort, that “I need to take a nap cause this food just made me fall into a comfort coma because it was soooooo good” feeling, that I wish I could eat a whole second meal mindset, then you need to stop by Pakt and get yourself a plate!!! You’ll be doing your tummy and your soul a favor ♥️
I love this place. They source locally almost all of the time, their chefs are fantastic, Erin is a sweetheart and the atmosphere is laid back and cozy. So much of their menu is customizable and its all delicious. Real real southern cooking, salt and fat and all. Love it.
I’m not too pleased with the service for our table today and am on the edge about coming back next time I visit the area. We were seated fairly quick and came in excited to try the great food and quick service mentioned in every review. While the food was very good, the service could use a few improvements.First of all, why are we being charged $2 for coffee we serve ourselves? In NYC, we can get a small cup of coffee for $1 and it comes the way we want it. I understand there may be many different ways people take their coffee but, at lease put the cups on the table with the coffee in it. You can put milk in a little container for each table and sugar. It’s really not that much additional work and it makes customers happy! Our group then waited for over an hour for our food and were offered no explanation which, the table next to us received. And yes, we did ask. It’s not like we were rude to our waitress so I’m not sure why that was...We had to ask for water multiple times (which every other table had a carafe of). The guy behind the bar today at 12PM took our carafe and never returned with water like he said was going to happen. We also asked for a knife and hot water more than once. All in all, it was a very unpleasant experience. I really wanted to enjoy the food but, the service took the flavor away.
A nice place to have lunch with a friend. The ingredients are interesting and different applied in classic and rustic american dishes. All that for a really great price! The place is cozy and bright which I always prefer in a daytime setting. Check it out! Would come back.
This place is the best new place in Kingston. The owners are fantastic and the food is out of this world. Made with nothing but love and care. They care for their customers and I LOVE the DIY coffee station. MY FAVE. 10/10 would approve. Best place to brunch. Honestly, youre missing out if you dont experience this kick-ass place.
I suppose it would be nice to say how delicious the food was or how warm the staff, inviting the atmosphere. But PAKT delivers something truly unique and extraordinary, and they deserve more than a simple nod. They deserve your patronage. Dont be fooled by the simplicity in its design; everything about this place is very well thought out. They care about what they do. You feel a sense of confidence when you walk into this place. Its time to relax. Time to be yourself. To eat and drink. To laugh and tell stories. The PAKT staff loves you, Kingston, New York. Show them some love.
Never disappointed when I come to PAKT! True southern flavor and love in every dish with an eclectic twist on traditional flavors that never ceases to amaze! Specials are diverse, always different and outstanding! Staff is super cool and combined with great food and drinks it truly makes PAKT one of the best food establishments in the area!!
OH. EM. GEE! Just go. Trying to order can be difficult. When I finally decided, I wasnt ready to give the menu back! Thick cut bacon, peach shallot jelly, killer Mac n cheese, mix n match breakfast skillets, drool worthy burgers....I gotta go back just to try more YUMMINESS! Reminds me of Gracies in Leeds with Spotty Dog in Hudson ambience!
I could write the longest, most eloquent review here about how fresh Pakts ingredients are, how inventive their menu is, how wonderful their staff is, how cool it is that all employees share tips (which is rare, but necessary), how much I love their woman-run kitchen, or how great it is that they offer themselves as a community meeting space. But Pakt isnt eloquent. Its Pakt. And its perfect.
Thank you to Pakt for brightening up the food desert that is Broadway in Kingston. Rock n roll, local, consciencious and creative new Southern soul comfort food. Passionate chef/owner/staff. We all know restaurants come and go. Pakt is off to a great start as the reviews reveal. I hope theyre here for years to come. Bring your appetite. Leave your diet at home.

2022-03-17Came here as a stop from upstate with a large group of friends. They were able to accommodate after making a reservation the morning of which was super nice since this place does get backed. Their beat hash browns are unique and something that I’d love to have again. If you’re in the area, you have to stop by because you can’t go wrong with any of the options.

2021-09-07We had made same day reservations for a bigger table (6 adults and 3 kids) on a rainy Sunday labor day weekend, and Dan was kind enough to accommodate our same day request and gave us a nice indoor table.Dan was clear at arrival about the fact that he was understaffed by 2 people and so understandably the service was slightly slower and explained this to us in a humorously convincing way. None the less, we were seated, placed our orders, and had a wonderful time under Dans hospitality. And yes, if it isnt clear by now, Dan was one of the features of our visit to PAKT that made it a bit of an entertaining experience for us.Food Review: Let me begin by saying that food overall here was absolutely delicious and flavorful. We ordered a few things which included Biscuit N gravy ($14), their Award-Winning Mac and Cheese ($10) - which was a perfect portion for our 5 year old, a BLT Bene ($16), Jethro ($16), Egg Skillet ($13) one with crab cake and one with chicken, and a vegan option ordered by me, which was a really tasty Vegan Chilly which was listed on their specials menu. For drinks, I also ordered a Lite lager, and a very tasty Bloody Mary... the pickled okra on that Bloody Mary was Bloody tasty!Food took less than 25 minutes to arrive, and overall, we had a very nice experience at PAKT, thanks to Dan and his team! We will definitely visit again and will recommend this place to our friends who live in nearby towns.

2021-10-24What a gem of a find while visiting upstate! we came for the vegan options & were highly impressed by everything. everyone was super friendly & accommodating with substitutions… food came out quick, hot & perfect. pictured is the vegetarian/an biscuits & gravy with root veggie hash browns which is not only genius cuisine but executed perfectly & delicious. added bonus is a full bar with creative cocktails, wish we were staying up here longer to visit again but next time we’re in town it’ll be our first stop!stay ungovernable; stay anti-fascist! ✊

2022-01-30This was delicious. Had blackened catfish sandwich and added fried avocado. Stunning. The biscuits and gravy with eggs and sausage was also outstanding. That fried sage added a depth of layer me and my partner absolutely appreciated. Service was fun and kind. The whole place feels like a hug when you walk in. Safe and comforting, just like the food. Five outta five.

2022-05-21Best southern food in town. Their grits are to die for. Ive been coming here for years. Its smack in the center of down town Kingston. Their brunch is awesome and they are great for dinner too, not to mention the incredible service. If youre craving cheesy grits or biscuits and gravy then this is the place to go!

2022-05-20Delicious food and drink menus. Brunch is fabulous. The seating can be a bit cramped when its busy but it seems par for the course when it comes to popular brunch spots anywhere. Make sure you check its hours before going as I have previously shown up when it was closed 😅

2021-05-17Never disappointed. Consistently great food at affordable prices. Fun menu with a Cajun/Southern emphasis. And the customer service is always on point! Showing Kingston love by making Broadway its home. Much respect.-Perfectly cooked eggs-Crack cornbread-SweetsFollow my IG: t_mo_swagglio23
