Palace Theatre in other cities:
Very nice place. The show i went to see was SpongeBob Squarepants Musical and i laughed a lot! It had nice stage scenery, great singers and was amusing. Seats were comfortable and it was easy to go upstairs at the balcon, which is in my opinion the best place to watch the show.
Beautiful Broadway theatre with a friendly staff and easiest of locations. The seating provides for ample knee room, but slightly less room for feet. The bathrooms are in need of a substantial renovation. Some of the bathrooms are not accessible and all of the facilities are insufficient for the size of the audience.
Not bad... I was able to see most of the important things from my mezzanine seat (K2), but worth noting that I couldnt sit normally due to how close the row in front of me was (I am 6 ft tall). Sound quality was good. Ushers/seating crew was not particularly friendly.
The Illusionists is excellent. The theater was very cold...we encountered one incredibly RUDE employee who was rushing my family to our seats without offering to help as we were unsure where our seats were. Not the experience we expected as we spent hard earned money and were with many children who were very excited to see the show.
Right in the heart of Times Square, across from the TKTS booth and the bleachers in the middle of the street. Love the theatre aesthetics. We saw SpongeBob there, and it was amazing. Ushers were helpful and nice. Clean theatre. Love the blinking lights on the marquee in front - so Broadway!
A real vaudeville icon, the Palace Theatre is one of the largest venues on Broadway. It was opened on March 24, 1913, and has the stunning seating capacity of 1,610 seats. Due to its huge capacity it was one of the most desired venues to book. Many of its musicals were stunning successes. Along with the multiple vaudevillians of their time, it has seen great shows like Holler If Ya Hear Me, The Temptations and the Four Tops on Broadway, Sunset Boulevard, The Illusionists, An American in Paris, West Side Story, Annie, and many, many more. The last musical to be set on the stage of the Palace Theatre was Sponge Bob Square Pants The Musical. I have to admit that this one is far from my favorites as possible, it achieved high critical and audience acclaim, and remained as well – loved by people with kids. After Sponge Bob Square Pants finished, the Palace Theatre was closed for a large – scale renovation. It includes the building of a hotel and a retail structure. One of the Palace Theatre’s curiosities is the urban legend about the death of acrobat Louis Bossalina. As the legend goes – he fell to his death somewhere in the 1950s. The truth, however, is that he indeed fell during a number in 1935, but survived and died some 18 years later in his home, age 61.
Took in a matinee of SpongeBob SquarePants place at this great theater. Located right on Times square. Seats were 7 rows from front, theater small front to back, but huge in height. Great theater to catch a show in New York City! Staff was very helpful. Seats were easy to find. Cant wait to go back.
Small theater when entering theater if show has began staff keeps you in a waiting area and your not allowed to enter theater so you miss out of the performance. When you enter theater the men that check your bag are rude. The performance of SpongeBob SquarePants was great
Really nice old theater. Balcony is very high up. Went for spongebob which was a cute show but Id only recommend it to fans of the show. Our original seats were second row of the balcony. Im a tall guy and I wasnt able to see half the stage unless I leaned forward. We also managed to see this show from row H of the orchestra. The experience was much much better sitting in the orchestra for this show. Usually for all Broadway shows every seat in the house is great but for this one I really wouldnt sit in the balcony unless you really have to
Went to see Sponge Bob Squarepants the Musical at this location. The musical was all of what people said it was. So I will leave that there. The location itself was not terribly huge. It was a good size for people in any seat to be able to see and enjoy the show without feeling like it was nose bleed. I was in the balcony area in the back and was still able to see expressions. I thought that was great. Would suggest anyone see a show here.
They are very quick getting the visitors in the theater. They are very polite and respectful and always seem to have a smile. I watched SpongeBob and I cant remember a disappointed person there oh the girl that plays Pearl has an amazing voice. Highly recommend seeing it.
What an awesome location! We went here to see SpongeBob on Broadway and actually saw it twice. Both times we had completely different seats but both of them were amazing and you were able to see you the entire stage perfectly and really enjoy the show. There are a lot of different decorations, the main lobby is pretty small, but it doesnt get congestive ly crowded like you would think
Saw the SpongeBob musical here. I sat towards the middle of the orchestra and had a decent experience. Acoustics arent great, and the audience is full of bratty and annoying kids that shouldnt have been brought there since they cant handle themselves. But overall it was a great show and I had an enjoyable night
In need of a major upgrade for bathroom facilities..... You have been warned.Seeing a show otherwise is a fine experience. I wouldnt stay away but if all things equal with another show, Id go somewhere else as the theatre is somewhat small for how many seats they have.Sound and light all seemed modern, so once you get into the show, enjoy yourself!
Sponge Bob show is a wonderful, family friendly Broadway show option. Well produced. Staging and sets were colorful amd creative. Music was lively and interactive. Show was original, with the exception of a few songs that all the kids knew and sang along with, which made it even better! There was enough (story, humor, music, an occasional pop culture reference for parents) to keep all families members engaged and smiling throughout the performance. Actors greeted audience members at the end of the show (with donation buckets) and were friendly, posing for pictures. (Though one wouldnt pose for a picture with the kids without a $20 donation and another without a donation of some kind.) Overall it was a great show - equal in value and priced less than the Disney shows.
Very expensive, but had a great time! Production was superb...would love to go back to see something else. A beautiful theater! Of course you have to walk upstairs to sit in the mezzanine (In my opinion, one of the best views in the house) , friendly and helpful staff. Bar on both floors, seats are spacious enough, acoustics are great, very old venue, pleasant evening!
Can I give this theater more than five stars please?!?!?! My students had a GREAT time at SpongeBob. The theater staff is so incredibly nice and accommodating! Really really nice and kind people. The theater is a bit cold for me (but Im always cold) I only want ot see shows at this theater from now on!!
The Palace Theater is one of the unique, historic theaters in NYC. We loved the performance and the sets. It was quite a hike to get up to the balcony, and we could not see everything taking place in front of the stage. The employees were super friendly, but the concession prices were outrageous!
I came here to see the musical Wicked. This is the roomiest Broadway theater that Ive been in. The seats are cushioned & spacious. My brother is over 60 tall and had a ton of legroom. We had orchestra seats & was able to see everything on the stage. Escalators are always a plus!
Visited the Palace theatre to see Sponge Bob on Broadway. Our seats were at the very top which was quite intimidating for someone afraid of heights. The restroom on our floor had only two stalls which is terrible as we all know there is a line for the ladies room. It can get pretty cold inside of you get cold fast bring something to keep you warm.
I saw Annie here with my dad in November of 2012. It was my first broadway show and I loved every second of it. The entire cast was amazing, especially the girls who played the orphans. I went to the bathroom after the show, and there was no line. However, the concession stand and the gift shop were very crowded during intermission. We sat in the 1st row of the mezzanine and we had a great view of the stage.
Beautiful, historic theatre. All the employees were super friendly and helpful. I saw Glenn Close in Sunset Blvd twice!!! Once in May at the matinee and again in Feb at 8 pm. Glenn had a slight cold in the last show but was amazing still! Michael Xavier the lead is super cute and the actor who plays Max was amazing. Great music. And really nice employees from the box office to the ushers. Great location too. Its in the most famous part of Times Square!
Not every view was a perfect view. I was in the right rear mezzanine and sat at the edge of my seat the whole time to get a better view. Then again, Spongebob the Musical made use of the apron, the house, the aisles, and other areas that were concealed by other seats.
Conveniently located right on the corner of 47 street and Broadway making for easy loading and unloading of audience after the show. Great sounds system and lighting. Seats were comfortable with good sight lines. Only downside was bathrooms on orchestra level was located 2 steep flights downstairs in the basement.
Went to see the SpongeBob SquarePants musical as a 24 year old male. Having grown up with the show I was still able to laugh along and have a great time. The theature was very nice however the concession area would get very crowded during intermission and after the show
SpongeBob SquarePants was a great musical! The music was great, and the production was super fresh and fun. The theater was transformed into a fun underwater party and the pirates and sea creatures kept the party going :) also the musicians deserve a shout-out especially for their sound effects
I really enjoyed the show I saw at the Palace, but was unimpressed with the theater itself. Overpriced concessions ($5 for candy or a bottle of water, $8 for cup of soda though you got a souvenir cup with it) and, in the balcony at least, leg room was virtually non-existent. Every single person in my party found sitting uncomfortable because there was so little leg room and because the person in front of yous head blocks part of the stage view so you have to lean forward in your chair to see.Is it bad enough to not see show you really want to see? No, I still had a good time overall. But if there are two shows youre equally interested in, one in the Palace and one elsewhere, pick the other one
A fantastic place to watch a broadway show. Very steep rake so a good view from most seats. What impressed me most was the staff. Every one was so friendly and personable, despite the constant flood of new audiences! The woman working the upstairs bar was incredible. She remembered my order at the interval and had it with me in seconds! Only flaw is the lack of toilets - the lines were huuuuuge before the start and during he interval. Other than that, a great theatre.
I went to see Spongebob Squarepants at this theatre. The leg room is very limited and becomes a bit uncomfortable after sitting for a long period of time. Also the seats have an odor. But if you can overlook all of that ,the views and sound is very good even from the upper back Mezzanine.
Spongebob was a great show! It was also nice and cool on a really hot summer day. Bathroom lines were insurmountable during intermission. Dont even try. Snack prices were atrocious, even for NYC. I.e. a pack of m&ms was $5. As an aside, the after show trinkets were absolute garbage, and the theater doors lock and made returns impossible. For example, the $20 mugs are poorly made and already cracked when the box opens.
Came here to see Annie (fun and enjoyable). The theater is quite big, and the decor is stunning! The seat is fairly comfortable with moderate amount of leg room. One major draw back was the usher in the back was extremely rude, unhelpful, and borderline obnoxious both before and during the show (flashing lights across the aisle several times during the show? Really?) Really ruined the experience for me.
The house staff here is the sweetest youll find anywhere. Super helpful and nice. Also, the box office people here are incredibly kind and will help you find the best seats for the price you are looking for, so you can enjoy the show youll be seeing. Facilities are always clean and in working order and the number of ushers and everyone guiding you and helping you gives you a great experience.
Beautiful theatre- can get somewhat chilly in the balcony but NOT COMPLAINING! Would rather be somewhat cold than sweating at a Broadway Show! The interior ceiling details are beautiful. The mens bathroom in the basement has steep stairs but assistance is available all the time. I saw an American in Paris and it was awesome.
I came here to see An American in Paris show. The theater is very pretty and the seats are comfortable. However, the theater is rather cold compared to other theaters so dress warmly. Also, the womans restroom only has 3 stalls so the line gets long. Just get to the theater early and go to the bathroom but dont bother going after that.
Beautiful theater but a couple of observations: 1. there is very little legroom between seats 2. very steep stairs to get up to Mezz and Balcony or down to Mens Room 3. the front of the Mezz is very close to stage and had great seats, except for far ends which had boxes in front of them and poor viewing angles.
Certainly one of the more cozier theaters in the area that I have been too. The mezzanine is very elevated and gives you that closer experience because of it. That being said, there are a decent amount of stairs (though Im sure theres accessible entry for those who need it). Also, the ladies room tends to fill upstairs; there are way more stalls on the basement level.
Loved seeing @spongebobbway at The Palace last night. Beautiful historic theatre. So sad to hear that greed has won and the theatre will be torn down and all of its history gone forever. Time Square does not need more retail. Shame on whoever is behind the destruction of this beautiful place. I will miss it.
Went to the sponge bob square pants musical... that was the most amazing show, for kids of all ages, it was beautifully decorated, super punctual, you need reservations, our kid got a very nice souvenir cup for purchasing a soda, the play was super funny ..I would highly reccomend this play
We came to see An American in Paris the other day with cheapo tickets from TKTS right across the street. The show was great and the venue was quite nice. The back seats of the Orchestra level have a bit of a restricted view towards the top of the stage, and teh actors voices dont carry well to the back. The staff was nice.
The place is ok, rows are tight and balcony is primarily accessible by an elevator, and bathroom situation is tolerable, but not completely different from other theaters on Broadway in that respect.I went and saw An American in Paris on a Sat night for a fiends bday and I just found the show unentertaining. If you like ballet and old-fashioned Gershwin piano-focused music, then you might get a kick out of the show. But for me, as someone who really enjoys Broadway shows in general, this one would rank near the bottom. Apologies to the cast who likely did an excellent job, but the subject matter just didnt really capture me.
Spongebob Squarepants....the musical. The adults enjoyed much more than the kids. Someone behind me laughed hysterically. Musical numbers that were performed were written by big name talent like Steven Tyler and John Legend and Sarah Bareilles.. It was ok if you like plays and musicals. Snacks were $5 each (small sizes only).
The Staff was rude and nasty to patrons!!!!! The theatre is non-responsive. Sunset Blvd. was FANTASTIC!!!!From purchasing the ticket, taking my seat, getting directions to the restroom and especially clearing out the theatre, there was no difference from dealing with rude children in school as how the staff of this theatre dealt with patrons. I am a play addict and this was the 4th play I saw since Wednesday and except for the nice nice nice lady handing out the hearing apparatus, I was astounded by the impoliteness, rudeness, and immaturity of every employee I encountered. After leaving the theater, I walked to other theaters and while asking about tickest for that night, I told them how rude the staff was at the Palace. I felt obligated to return to the palace to tell the manager how disappointed I was with how other patrons and I were treated. I was told she was out to dinner between shows and I left my name and phone number. AM I SURPISED!!!!I didnt get a call back. With the way the other employees acted, this appears to be the way they treat people. So if you have elderly parents or people with any type of emotional disability, these people will unintentionally upset you as they did me. The show was marvelous. Glenn Close was probably the best I have seen on Broadway in a long time and I see a lot. I am imploring management of this theater to be kinder to people and use please when they were asking people to leave when many of them dont move fast anymore. It was very sad. They were very rough in this treatment can be very demeaning and unfortunate. I work with kids that act like the staff of the Palace, so it did not upset me. It was sad to watch the reactions of the other patrons that I thought this treatment was unworthy of what they paid and came to see. So this is not to benefit me but to benefit anyone else in the future that these people dont realize how their rudeness affects others. The only word that I can think of is rude. The Nederlander company does not return calls on complaints!!!!!!
Wife and mother in law saw one of Glen Closes last performances of Sunset Boulevard here. Had last minute, last row in rear orchestra seats. Theater was described as lovely, but my mother-in-law is hard of hearing, and complained she couldnt understand any of the character dialogue. Theater should offer hearing-assistant devices (other theaters do so); in the event they DO offer these, it wasnt apparent and there was no mention of such devices or other support for hard-of-hearing persons.Staff was also very nice and pleasant.
Playing the Palace has been the dream of many performers since the theatre opened in 1913. For many years The Palace was the pre-eminent vaudeville theatre in the country and an engagement in this theatre meant that a performer had made it. The whos who of entertainment royalty have performed on this stage, including Ethel Barrymore, Harry Houdini, Will Rogers, Ethel Merman, Judy Garland, Jerry Lewis, Harry Belafonte, Bette Midler, Shirley MacLaine and Diana Ross.

2017-12-01Won tickets for Spongebob Squarepants which I watched here. The best decorated Broadway set I have seen so far. Humor and music was top class, and if you are a fan of Spongebob and the crew from Bikini Bottom, you will love this. Theater location is very convenient and on corner of 7th and 47 street. Seats were comfy and also has an elevator for mezzanine and balcony seating.

2018-06-14When you go into an establishment, you want to feel worthy to be there. You want to feel like you can achieve great things. You want it to make you feel courageous in life. You want it to make you feel like you are more than enough. You want it to make you feel blessed and thankful; To make you focus on the good and laugh; To stand up tall, like a warrior. You want it to make you seek out strange new worlds and mindsets. While this place does not achieve any of those sentiments, its got mojo and its located right on Times SquarePants

2017-02-10Youll see a great show! Love the location. Its starting to show its age a bit. Balcony is quite steep, so anyone with balance issues should avoid it. Feels quite intimate, which is nice.

2017-04-03Beautiful, Regal Theater - Perfect for Sunset BoulevardWe watched Sunset Boulevard starring Glenn Close at this theater. Its amazing. The theater is beautiful and regal. It really felt like going to a glitzy and glamorous show. Sunset Boulevard is, of course, impressive. Glenn Close rocks. And so does the other cast members. The set is stunning. Such a memorable experience.

2018-05-28I feel like every seat is good in this place! I saw Spongebob here and it was great! The staff was nice and attentive. They made exiting the theatre very quick because of all the hidden doors. The sound was good, would return.

2018-05-31SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS was sooo amazing! We didnt have any expectations when we bought the general rush tickets in the morning, but we were thoroughly blown away by the performance. We loved the songs, the dances, the stage. Everything was great, especially for general rush tickets at 30usd, it was a great steal. The theater was also easy to find, just in front of the TKTS booth.

2018-09-17The balcony seats are so steep you really cant see the stage well and everyone is leaning forward the whole time making the problem worse. This photo was taken strategically to avoid having someones head covering half stage. If youre at the top be prepared to do a lot of swaying left and right just to see the show!
