This place is huge and they have everything! If its sports gear, they have it... Paragon can be a bit overwhelming. If you want quality sports gear, no matter your sport, go here. The employees generally know the sport that theyre selling for. In ice skates, they skate. On tennis they play, etc. And know only do they sell the equipment, they service it too - they will string your racket and sharpen your skates.
While I ran into some frustrations initially over an order I placed - I need to commend the staff, especially Maria who I was working with directly with, on making everything right and turned me into a satisfied customer (even after I was admittedly not the most pleasant to deal with).
My experience at Paragon in the past has generally been positive, but this winter it was not so much. Ski binding mounting was not done by the date promised and had to be done at the last minute while my family waited at the packed store during the Omicron surge in NYC last month, and they sold me a damaged high-end ski helmet which was probably returned by another shopper. It was not a huge dent, but was clearly visible, which was probably not inspected before the product was put back on the shelf in the stock room. When I went back to the store to return it (with all of the large tags still in tact on the outside of the helmet) and mentioned the reason for return, the cashier assumed that I caused the damage and made me wait for a while to speak with the manager. The manager approved the return after asking me a few questions, but no one was apologetic at all for the delay, the wrong assumption, and also for selling a damaged high-end product at a full price.
Tennis Pro Shop was the most condescending I have ever experienced. The guy is called Hugo, who coldly power-tripped me in a sport that Ive loved for 16 years of my life. DO NOT condone this. if Paragon Sports is filled with people who bring this level of discrimination, division, abrasion to athleticism, I hope you reflect deeply on how you are corroding the world of sports. It was frankly appalling. I approached him gently and asked for suggestions on getting a new racket. I smiled and said I havent changed it for a long time - I have been using my Head racket and dont know all the technicalities of rackets, but it is why we come to pro shops for advice. He rudely asked how long Ive been playing for and why am I looking at the Advanced section. When I said Ive been playing for 10+ years, he took off a racket and made me show him my grip show me your grip? ok, give it back. He took it off my hand and just extended one finger and said this is how you hold it (?? I played 4 years of Varsity in high school and 4 years of Club in college, Im here for a racket not a tennis lesson)He proceeded to challenge me on what I want, do I want power or control. I said I want power, but maybe that just come with more practice. Youre making things very complicated for me he said.Uh Im sorry, is it not your job to explain the options instead of asserting your expertise over me? Is this not an opportunity for you to share your love and knowledge for a sport, rather than patronising me? Quite honestly, this feels like an example of sexism in sports. Just because I dont know my racket specs, doesnt mean I dont hit those winners and aces competitively.KC, the store manager, handled this very professionally, and I appreciate your help. Sports bring people together, but Hugo only brought discrimination and unfounded disrespect. I hope this helps you reflect on your purpose and organization.
Visited store for a for a pair of tennis sneakers and a pickleball Racket. Had maybe 5 choices of tennis sneakers . At 1 time you would go to the basement and maybe have 50 choices, absolutely unbelievable. As far as pickleball rackets 5 choices. When you have dozens of choices online. Customer service was very disappointing
Ski shop personnel review:Came to inquire about a fix for my broken snowboard boot. The manager identified me searching for an associate to assist, immediately approached, listened carefully to my question, and reached out to the appropriate colleague who could better address my concern. Though the associate at first was off the mark on offering solutions, the manager gently guided her to suggest options that would resolve my issue. After that prompt, the associate provided several pointed, helpful, and creative potential actions I could take, as well as clear descriptions.Compliments to the manager and associate for their personal, thoughtful, and attentive assistance! I left very satisfied with their service!
I visited Paragon Sports because I was in need of cycling shoes. It was my first time purchasing cycling shoes, so I was a little uncertain as to what I was looking for or how to find it. I thought the store itself has a lot to offer and for the most part was very well organized. I was a little confused because the cycling shoes are kept upstairs, away from the rest of the shoes. Once I asked someone, I was pointed in the right direction. It was a very packed day, so it was a little difficult to figure out the store. It was a little tricky getting the attention of employees, but once I did an associate helped me not only find a pair of cycling shoes but he also installed the clips for me so I can immediately put them to use. Id definitely return if Im ever in need for sports related goods, just perhaps on a less busy day or time.
In 2019 I joined this weekly run group. My first day was awkward being a newbie among regulars. Everyone was welcoming, friendly and social- I cant wait til we can run together again. Each week was amazing for me meeting new runners and being challenged to push more each mile. I will continue to treasury the memories and group photos.
Paragon is a NYC institution. Such a beautiful store. Today I went in searching for a new winter coat. Every staff member I interacted was so warm and helpful. I had the best interaction with Yvette. She helped me pick out my new winter coat. She was so patient and thorough. Yvette really took her time to make sure that I found exactly what I was looking for. She is a real expert and gave me advice on how to find the right fit, the difference between different brands and coat features, and how to take care of the coat to preserve its integrity. Such a rewarding shopping experience. Cant say enough good things! Thank you, Paragon and thank you, Yvette!
PROS: This was an amazing sporting goods store to go to. Just around the corner from my work and it had everything I could imagine. Prices were very good compared to city prices and the employees were very helpfulCONS: No parking and the line did not move fast even though people hardly had any purchases. I wont let that effect their stars thoughOVERALL: I would come here again if I wasnt working from home to get something. I bought a nice hiking first aid kit from here and Its still in good condition
Always love visiting this store. The employees go above and beyond. The gentleman at the running sneakers section was super helpful and made great recommendations. I also visited the hiking area and the employee there was also super attentive and was helping me pick out the right shoes for my girlfriend. Everything is well organized and easy to find. Looking forward to visiting again
This store is great. I went here recently looking for work out equipment and was able to find everything. As you can imagine, its hard to buy heavy weights online and these days its important to work out at home, so Paragon is great to get what you need. The wait to the cash register was short. The staff were friendly and helpful. They even had a cool massage gun on display near the checkout, which got me thinking. All in all, its a great store to get anything sports or fitness related.
I purchased ski boots here. I was a new skier at the time and felt the boots were a bit tight, but the staff insisted that I was a 26.5 and that the liners would compress down over time. Well they didn’t, and and every time my feet are screaming in pain on the mountain after I lose circulation I think about how much I hate paragon sports. DO NOT, under any circumstances, come here for skiing or snowboarding advice. They are incompetent and arrogant.
Brian in the sneaker department saved my feet for the NYC 50TH MARATHON. He was so knowledgeable about running shoes . His knowledgeable made me buy a new pair of shoes a day before the race. He also gave good tips on running since it was my first. Thank you so much Brian and Paragon.
They think that everyone is stealing, granted they do have history of theft because of their desirable products, but sheeesh give some people a break. I wasn’t sure about buying something and the security guard kept coming around and asking me. Then he followed me around in the store. Jesus.
I am writing to share an amazing experience of genuine care, attention, and impeccable service. It has been so difficult to find the right shoes for my child. During this pandemic most of our children did not venture out. My child has some unique challenges when it comes to finding a good fit. The two men that helped my child were extremely attentive. They shared vast insights and taught us a great deal about how to make some adaptations. She even tried her new shoes on a treadmill. When we walked outside she shared, “ that was my very best ever experience when buying new shoes.” Mr. Williams is truly an amazing person!
I understand that Covid etc is causing a strain on businesses but the experience I had today was sadly on par for pre-Covid issues I’ve had with the store in the past.I needed a ski boot bag and wanted to shop local to support paragon. Once in the store’s section, I was passed over for help for a man who was behind me waiting. After politely waiting, I was given answers to the questions I had about a transport backpack that I was told was $159-no price tag was present, so I was given a paper with the information the cashier would need.At the checkout I was told the bag was $219 as that was the number the girl had put into the computer. She was not willing to find the man who helped me, nor was she willing to give me the $159 price that the man had written on the paper.Of course I wasn’t going to pay $219 for a backpack as that’s crazy! I went online immediately to see if a similar bag was available and found that very same bag for only $79.90 on Amazon. Not only are they trying to incorrectly charge people at this store, they are severely up-charging their items as well! I’m not a fan of Amazon, but at least I know their pricing issues are not anywhere near the price gouging this store is trying to do!
I had an amazing experience here shopping for running shoes. Wesley took the time to get to know my foot type and running style. He suggested 5 different models to try. I tested them all on their treadmill and felt like I was able to make an educated decision on the best shoe for me. It feels great to have customer service like this and the confidence that I made the right choice. Paragon is going to be the only store for me going forward.
This is the worst store in nyc. I came for price match items as they advertised. They said it has to be from a website so I show them the website. And they said the item should have it under the percentage taken off. So I explained to them that the sale was site-wide 25%. I applied the coupon the items I choose and you know what they did?? They said we give you only one item at 20%. DO NOT FALSE ADVERTISE.
I HAVE BEEN GOING TO PARAGON FOR OVER 15 YEARS, THEY HAVE TOP OF THE LINE EQUIPMENT ,GREAT SPORTING GOODS, WINTER COATS YOU NAME IT THEY GOT IT, AND WHEN THEY A GREAT SALE IT IS AMAZING... THEY HAVE EQUIPMENT FOR EVERY TYPE OF OUTING OR OUT DOOR ACTIVITY, SUCH AS , CAMPING , HIKING,BASEBALL, BASKETBALL, SWIMMING BIKING, HOCKEY ETC
Great old line store. Last of its kind. Very helpful staff. Checked on line before going in to see stock, always a good idea and due to slow pandemic business not accurate but still helpful. Definitely use hand sanitizer when u enter as you will be touching things you wont buy. Please support them as they are a worthy business.
The place change a lot I see they expanded the store a bit. Prices now are threw the roof. Was going to buy my wife a winter coat there but a little to pricey for me. Get a better coat online at Amazon or ebay. Everyone has a mask on not really 6 feet distance but hey its a sporting goods store. Not for me anymore. I give it three stars. Been coming here since 1976-2020 this will be last shop here until it gets better.
I had great experience there! Just bought Burton snowboard and other stuff with 50% off for my 6yo. The sales are amazing and very helpful. Its the last place in Manhattan which has ski and snowboard equipment. Burton store in Soho store and REI are sold out. These guys also have rental. I full heartedly recommend this place
I’ve been shopping here for years. My husband works in film industry and he bought all of his winter gears and fitness tools here. Their staffs used to be very knowledgeable and accommodating but the last few times I went in the past few months were disappointing at best. I was surprised how the quality of their customer service had declined. I asked for a size and the young staffs wouldn’t even stop talking with his coworkers. He didn’t even go all the way to the back room, and just came back and said they had nothing, then went back to his chit chatting. Not what I expect from Paragon or any other stores.
It’s hard to give my experience at Paragon Sports even 1 star. Upon returning an item, the store director accused me of washing the item despite the tag being attached and refused to be solutions-oriented at all. Very disrespectful and poor customer experience from a neighborhood institution. Buyer beware return policy is subjective and unpredictable. POOR!
The staff I interacted with were friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, and patient. Props to Mo in footwear, Jim in aquatics, and Renzo in bikes. They have a huge selection of footwear, swim goggles, and bike helmets. I appreciate that I was able to take my time to try everything on for size and to ask the staff questions. I never felt rushed or pressured to buy. I left the store feeling good about the purchases that I made.
Not impressed with the customer service. Received a pair of defective boots. Was originally told I could return them, but later told that since I had worn them I could only exchange them. Then was informed that they no longer had my size in stock so I could only exchange them for a different size. This turned out to be okay, but 4 months after I got the boots theyve worn a hole. I contacted Paragon Sports and was told they no longer accept returns and that I need to talk to the manufacturer directly.
Over the last decade my husband and I have purchased several items from hiking boots to swimsuits here and have always been happy with the quality and price. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. All our many questions get answered with a smile. Check out is quick and returns/exchanges are easy.
If you’re like me and love that the goyim are here to serve us for almost nothing, you will love Paragon! At Paragon they have no issues with vendors that pay employees slave wages and still charge top dollar for overhyped stuff that makes the Shiksa and kids ready to comply!Jews Rule!
This is my go to place for running shoes, winter jackets, and workout clothing and equipment. In general, this is the ONLY place in NYC that resemble the typical sporting goods store in your cities except, since this is after all is NYC, the products they sell are more high end with bigger selections.
I have been coming here for the last two months to rent demo tennis rackets and finally made my purchase today. But it was always a 50-50 experience. The associates are knowledgeable and engaging (if you can find one). They have an amazing selection of products which is great. But the problem is that other than the associates, most of the staff has no interest in providing customer service and Its almost like they do not care. Most of them seem to have no training and have a hard time looking up old receipts and finding you in their system. I asked for a cover for my new racket and the guy lazily said that they do not send them to us anymore and made a cursory check of the stock room to came back empty. I was going to stand my ground when I spotted one of the associates and asked him to check and he was able to find one in the back. In any case, if you have the patience and luck, this is good shop. They have a huge selection and their demo rentals are super cheap compared to others in the city. Hope they improve their service.
It was a nightmare. I used to like to come here. But one of staff gave me incorrect information about coupon, and I lost it because I trusted her. And a male manager asked me like a police officer about this issue without politeness and honesty. I complained it on the website, but no response. In conclusion, this shop provides very poor service without responsibility and tries to steal your rights. Don’t buy anything here if you want to have correct and safe guarantee on your goods.
Paragon is having their great sale. Couldnt find what I needed, but this wonderful Store Director, Ronnie W. gave me his business card and told me to email him and he would try to help me find what I need! Isnt God amazing? He knew I needed help and he placed someone in my path who generously offered gis personal time to me. He is a credit to Paragon and a blessing to me!
Purchased a racquet online for their advertised price, after 2 1/2 weeks they now claim its not in stock and immediately changed the price and magically....it is immediately back in stock. Buyer beware....they have zero INTEGRITY. Dont walk....RUN away from this unethical business.
You dont need to shop anywhere else. Paragon has everything, the employees know the merchandise, and the prices are competitive. Dont buy online. Just go to Paragon and find what you need and you take it home the same day. Its an amazing store for every sport and activity. Ive gotten three different wet suits and other scuba gear, hiking boots, sneakers, yoga gear, camping equipment, an awesome down coat, swimming goggles, etc... Paragon really does have it all!
Terrible customer experience that you should avoid. Their price match guarantee is a complete lie. I bought a pair of boots and asked for a price match the day after. They quickly responded my email by saying We have it for the same price, when I had the invoice as proof that they sold it at a higher price. They are deceiving and will do anything to get more money from you. NOT WORTH IT.
Online they advertise that they sell Inov8 footwear, but when I walked in today to buy a pair, they said they stopped selling this brand for over a year :/ your online presence is your showcase to the world, unacceptable. even small neighborhood stores update their profile and merchandise more then once a year.
Shout-out to the best employee of Paragon Sports, his name is Blaise. We went last week looking for a sweater that we really wanted to buy time ago, and unfortunately Paragon brick and mortar store didnt have that sweater in the size desirable. We look on their website and it was available there, we had a gift card though the web did not accept to use gift cards bummer. We asked a manager if we could order it online and pay it on the store and he said was not possible. Then we luckily asked this awesome employee and problem solved, he made his best to make it possible 🙂💪🏼 and he did it.So happy he made his best and finally we were able to ordered it 🤗. We are very satisfied with their customer service and products :)Thank you!
This store has everything you could need, but it also has the least helpful staff I’ve ever seen. I was in there recently trying to buy a snowboard, boots and a host of other things. The staff was not only unhelpful but incredibly rude. I decided to leave, and I bought everything ( spent a lot of $$$) somewhere else. There are so many places to shop in nyc, I’ll go somewhere where it’s not a miserable experience.
I stopped by Paragon yesterday to exchange a pair of boots and was greeted by Asha. She was very patient and after telling her what I was interested in, she brought back 4 different possibilities. Most customers dont realize how many brands are offered and the time it takes to find the proper size and style. And most patrons dont put the shoes or sneakers back in the box if their not happy with the fit, giving the staff more work. Please be patient when visiting the footwear department, its not an easy task for them to give 5 star service.
I went in to buy the & handwarmers in multipackages. They had exactly what at needed at a very reasonable price. All the staff & cashiers were helpful, professional & courteous. I really appreciated that Covid-19 protocols were in effect. Great store & I highly recommend.
The customer service has no idea what they’re talking about! I called about purchasing kids ski boots in store and the employee I spoke to on the phone assured me that the boots I wanted were in stock. When I got to the store, I was told that they don’t even sell kid’s ski boots! The just rent! The customer service should be more in the know.
Terrible customer service. They simply stand around and chat and when you do ask for help they simply point out to the area....okay (that was the ski wear dept keep in mind). I had a gentlemen help me out with equipment and he was highly helpful and sympathized about not having my helmet size -- only helpful person there. One last thing I feel they will only assist you if your ready and willing to spend endless cash there...NOT, NEXT.
Absolutely amazing. I went in, and was immediately greeted by a worker who asked what I was looking for (swimwear). After going to where he pointed, I noticed the entire store was very large and organized. An employee in the swimwear section noticed that I couldnt find the pull buoy I was looking for, and offered help. The lady behind the register was also really nice in greeting her customers. I would definitely come back here for any sports materials I need
This store was great in its hey days. However if you want to waste time and effort. On running shoes, hiking and time permits snow boots. Then this is the best place to go. Theyll make an attempt to see what they have and tell you its good.. I want ed to give the store one more chance. I figured you cant mess up selling hockey skates. Let me say they will try to sell you what ever they have in stock. There is no skate warmer .When I asked about CCM skates I got a vague look. At this point I walked out and headed out and upstate, NEW YORK
Been going there for a number of years for a simple reason. They actually provide services that only brick and mortar stores can provide. Went there to buy running shoes and it was nice to have someone who knew their stuff help me with picking the right shoes. Thank you, staff. Always look forward to shopping there. Its always been a wonderful experience.
I bought some shoes here and very explicitly asked about the return policy and if they could be worn outside as a test run. I was told that was fine as long as I returned them within 30 days. Depending on the condition, I could get a refund or store credit. What wasn’t said is that the refund policy is to be unworn and the store credit is only for that department. The misleading information is bad enough, but when I spoke to the manager, I was told that I must be confused because the employee who helped me had been there for eight years and it’s not possible that he said that to me. Apparently, eight years of employment means you’re completely incapable of miscommunication or misrepresenting a policy for a sale.
We bought 2 pairs of men’s sports running shoes, (over $US$330) the sales assistant couldn’t have cared less about us, he disappeared into the store room on several occasions and took around 20 minutes per time, (I am sure he must have been taking his break), he was far more interested in serving other customers. Every time we needed a different size or another shoe we had to say - “Excuse me, can we have this in size”.....etc, he was totally unhelpful. But we persevered and made our purchase. We were in the store for over an hour trying to get shoes to try on. I have big feet and was trying on (and eventually purchasing) men’s shoes, he was dismissive, and not interested in making any sale. So sad - as you have a good range, we could easily have chosen more products, but due to his indifference left unhappy customers.
We like the store but execution during covid is a little lacking. My wife called Tuesday night at 6:30PM to ask a question about ski boots. The lady who answered the phone said she would put us on hold while she went to ask somebody. We were on hold until 7:00PM when the store closed at which point the lady who put us on hold, accidentally picked up the phone thinking we had hung up after being put on perma-hold. She said Uh oh then just hung up.
Was at the store a couple days ago and was helped by a security guard Emmanuel even though he’s just security he was really helpful and navigated me and helped me buy a Canada goose . Even though it wasn’t his job title he stood with me and made sure I was comfortable with the coat I was going to purchase & recommend me to associates downstairs in the ski department for a new board , when I finished my purchases he came to see if I was all good and if I had any more needs , that’s class & professionalism you can’t teach , not like other stores that security gives you hassle highly recommend people to come shop at paragon sports.
Large store with helpful and friendly staff. Does not always stock a wide variety of colors/styles of certain items, so other outdoor retailers may be a better option if youre looking for lots of choices. Ive purchased cleats, hiking boots, socks, various bags and gear from here and have been satisfied. Occasionally there are emails with coupons if you sign up for the mailing list.
One of the best sporting goods stores around and the folks in the ski department really know their stuff. Many of the pros in the ski department have been there for ages. Great at fitting boots and super knowledgeable about skis. Of course a great selection of products.
I am new to SPINNING and I visited this location to purchase a pair of cycling shoes. I was not approached by the sales associate. When I did receive assistance he was NOT engaging, had zero personality and did not have any of the shoes I was interested in available in my size. He said I would have to go on line to order them myself. I wasted almost an hour of my precious time in there. I proceeded to purchase a pair in a local Bike Shop in my neighborhood and received SUPERIOR customer service.
Helpful staff, competitive pricing, reasonably well organized merchandise, if sometimes under-stocked and behind the trend. They dont seem to mind you trying out gear in the store and their 30 day return policy (with receipt in original packaging) has always been honored in my experience.
Absolutely worst customer service ever. I returned a product and they refuse to refund me. If you call it tells you to email (no one ever answers). I have emailed many times over the last week and they won’t respond. I have confirmed the return was delivered weeks ago, but they won’t refund the charge or respond to emails or pick up the phone. Now I have to file a dispute with my credit card just to get my money back. Do not shop here.
Always has good experiences until now. I got a coupon after an online purchase for 15% off. Of course, when I actually come into the store to use it, the items I want to buy are exceptions and cant discounted (tennis strings). Employees were unfriendly, unhelpful, and said they couldnt tell me what was and wasnt ok the list of items I could actually use it on. Lucky for me I found it cheaper online and with cash back. This has just made it clear that loyalty gets you nowhere! Always check online, thats what I learned.
Paragon Sports has an array of sportswear to choose from but they are very pricey. There are a lot of brand name items and they have very nice inventory to shop from. They don’t carry all the sizes for all the styles plus things run out too, so a few times, I couldn’t find or buy what I wanted. Most of their staff is helpful, but generally I was able to do my own shopping without their assistance. I booked a snowboarding trip with them once which was pretty nice; the package included the lift tickets, rentals and transportation to the mountain. It was fun and definitely more convenient to travel with them.
Well, Im forever done with Paragon Sports. Horrible experience, bad customer service. Heres the story:We purchased a Boosted Board from Paragon Sports. According to Boosted Board, YOU have one month to return the board to the store. Well, we were well within our 1 month return-time yet Paragon Sports decided to pull a fast one and decline to accept our return after having called them first to acknowledge they would accept a return. Got to the store and the manager, cant recall his name, decided that it was like a new car. Once its been ridden and used, they wont accept it back.We then called and complained to Boosted Board that this was happening at this store. Boosted Board ensured us that Paragon Sports HAD to accept the board back as they have some sort of agreement. Seems like either that manager didnt know about this agreement or decided to try and pull a fast one on us. Regardless, Paragon Sports eventually accepted the return in full after we had to spend hours trying to return the board.Boosted Board as a company is great and if youre in the same predicament, I highly recommend you call Boosted Board or whatever manufacturer of your original purchase was to ensure that Paragon Sports accepts your returns. Some of the workers were nice but we were treated pretty poorly there and its just not worth ever going back to them.
Went to buy ice skates. The sales people in the ice skate department were amazing and professional. Then I went to the shoe department and it was empty with three sales associate. One was on their phone while the other two chatted. Nobody came over to help us. So we decided to not buy our shoes there (they could have easily made a sale from us). This is a large store and each department is hit or miss with customer service.
Thieving frauds. When youre unsure about buying something they sell you on their incredible returns policy to convince you its safe to buy something youre unsure about. Then they refuse to honor it when you try to.After 3 or 4 employees give you identical rehearsed speeches theyre clearly used to giving since this is clearly a long running scam, the manager comes downd to give you ultimatums. You can have store credit to spend at the same dump thats mugging you or leave. The one I got was a real piece of work. And so smug you can tell its their favorite part of the job. Again, totally unsurprised and unrepentant. Because this is not some one-time anomaly, its company policy.Ive worked in customer service myself so Im never bothered when retail employees arent bubbly rays of sunshine—I get it—but this wasnt that. These very obviously enjoy taking customers for a ride and are too experienced doing it.Not done with these cons by any means. Ill see them in small claims as soon as I read up on how to file.
Paragon sports is easily the best place to go for any sporting goods or even just clothing in general. I doubt that there’s anything in those departments that they don’t have. There’s so much square footage, and they pretty much fill the entire space. The staff will definitely be able to help you find whatever it is that you may need, and don’t be afraid to ask for help, because the store is daunting.
I wanted to return new, unused merchandise, but I didnt have the receipt or original packaging. Yet, they were very understanding and worked with me and allowed me to return my merch. It goes without saying, I will definitely be buying all my sporting goods at this wonderful store!
3 floors of sporting goods - everything you could possibly need for your adventures is right here! It can get pricey; but if your willing to invest into a sport, I feel you should have good quality items (which you can buy here).Staff members OBVIOUSLY get paid commission for sales. Some can appear pushy; so beware. My experiences here have been great though. Each time, I am greated by someone and never have to search far for someone to help me find something. Before leaving on a snowboarding trip, I had to purchase snow goggles. The young man helping me was knowledgeable about the sport and was patient helping me find the right size and style. Another fellow helped me find gloves, and a young lady helped me with some socks. All of these people were able to answer my questions and point me in the right direction (which I appreciated). The check out counter was a little wild though. Employees were yelling at one another, throwing things, joking, being slightly unprofessional and pretty much ignoring the customer...shame.
I am extremely happy with my shopping experience at Paragon. After a few years of skiing with rented equipment I was looking to buy skies and boots and other ski stuff. They were very informative and helped me with my decision. Skye was the guy who took care of me and I think he is an expert in helping you choose the right ski gear. I read some reviews of people complaining about the lack of customer service, I dont think this is true because they helped me a lot. If youre serious on buying ski gear or clothing they will definitely help you but if youre just coming to imagine that you wanna buy ski or snowboard gear dont waist yours and theirs time and go somewhere else.....😜
Been here before but this time wow. Yvette helped me out in a few departments mainly men’s running but she knew everything! even helped me immediately find “those energy gel cubes”.... in 2 seconds she turned around and had me in front of this amazing product I hadn’t found in 5 years or longer. Bravo Yvette amazing. Thank you! And thanks paragon for the best sports stock in nyc.
This is a great store in terms of being able to see a lot of brands/models in physical form. Its always a great idea to come here, see the product in person, try on for size/fit, then find a deal because they price match! They carry tons of equipment from a wide range of companies. It spans a wide price range too.Overall a great place to visit. The staff is super friendly and helpful. However, not all of them are knowledgeable so do your homework before coming here.
I really appreciate the quality of goods here, the clearance rack, and that the sales associates treat you like people (i.e. dont hover uncomfortably nearby like most places, calmly approach and earnestly seek to help). Its wonderful and calm, in a busy city. Plus, I got a $10 giftcard for spending over $100, no strings attached. They just seem to appreciate their customers. A+!
The item I was looking for was found without any help from the store staff! No one even asked may I help you. The backpack section where I was at had three sales people and they were all chatting with each other. Not one sales person came over to help (I was there for 15 minutes) or assist? This kind of work practice is why they will lose my business. I made my purchase online at a better price! Goodbye forever!
We went to Paragon for ski boots. Mike in the ski boot department was incredibly helpful and clearly an expert in the field. I have skied the last 20 years, and truly appreciated the patience, kindness, and knowledge mike showed us. It was an extremely busy evening and we never felt rushed or not taken care of. Someone give Mike a raise or a managerial position because this guy delivers esteemed customer service. I will be returning to ONLY Paragon for my ski gear questions or purchases. Mike should give online tutorials about ski boots and fit because that dude has knowledge.
Cant imagine there is anything you could need that they dont stock. Not cool like Nike SOHO but extensive range of every single sporting pursuit you can think of. I bought my kids Nike gear (that was on sale), cycling kit for myself, luggage for the trip home and a goose-down jacket. Huge range - no real service to speak off really - but with such a huge range over 3 floors you will find what you are looking for. Not high end retailing, just huge range and fair prices.
I bought regular priced shoes as well as stuff from their warehouse sale section and had a great experience not just in terms of the products but the associates as well, in both the sections. I would highly recommend buying your running shoes from here. They give you so much time! The warehouse sale had a massive collection and this is one place I found things I am somehow hard pressed to find- adults (extra!)petite active pants in XS size and well fitting cargo shorts in active wear, also XS size. The best thing I liked about this store is that unlike other stores with crowded sales where the buyers are left on their own and the whole place is chaotic, I actually saw so many sales associates who were continually rearranging the shoes and clothes that people didnt care to put back, and placing them on the right size section. You dont get that even at Macys, Herald Square!Whether you are a local or a tourist, this store has to be on your list!
Its all about the quality and fine choices. At Paragon most sports are covered. The backpack lasts forever and surprisingly they had great colors. My sons went to Israel and enjoyed the backpacks. Perfect size, easy access and good shoulder support.I have also purchased baseball & soccer equipment here.Note: they do not have fencing equipment!!!
I first have to thank podiatrist Dr. Jonathan Richards for telling me my foot problems (painful bunion and fallen arches) would be solved by going to Paragon and asking for Carlos R. in the footwear section. I was a little skeptical, but I was desperate!Well, I would can say: Carlos not only found me the right footwear, but his patience, his insights, his overall consideration and determination to make sure I got everything right, was amazing. I never would have thought that anyone, especially someone at such a huge, busy store like Paragon would be willing and able to take the time to make absolutely certain I got the items that were most perfect for me. Every business, not just sporting goods, needs a Carlos. And Carlos deserves all the praise in the world. I hope Paragon and everyone who shops there knows how great this person is!
This store has a pretty large amount of name brand options for most if not all outdoor activities and active sports. The perk of this place is the staff knows what theyre talking about and theyre really helpful. They also provide price matching which is super. You may need to get a manager to approve it though. If youre looking for quality items to use often and over a long period of time, I would shop here. If youre looking for something generic and less expensive then you might want to go to a department store like Burlington or Marshalls.
A NYC icon and perhaps my favorite store of all time! Ive been shopping here for 20 years and stop in several times a month. Anything you want from tennis rackets to hiking boots to biking gear to camping tents to running sneakers...great quality and huge selection. A fun and addictive place to shop in the center of Manhattan!
I just purchased ski boots and was very pleased with my entire shopping experience. Ron, in the ski department, spent a lot of time with me on 2 separate days to make sure that the boots were just right for my feet. I didnt feel rushed or that he was just trying to sell me whatever boot just to make a commission. As a skier himself he really cared about getting a boot that was perfect.I would come back and shop here any day. Thanks!
Purchased a second bike with Paragon Sports. Jimmy Ling from cycling was outstanding. Super helpful, knowledgeable and put us to ease. He introduced us to the various bike models. He changed our bike seat and walked us to the counter to buy the bike; held the door open and walked us out with the bike. It felt like we were purchasing a car. Just a great experience
The sales person volunteered to me that if I could find the sneakers that I wanted to buy for my son online at a cheaper price Paragon would price match. I informed him I found the same exact sneaker for 20 percent off at Footlocker. He said show the person at the register this and have it in my online cart. This took me some time to maneuver on my cell phone . Then I waited for 20 minutes at the register, my son had the sneakers on. . Finally, when I went to check out I was told by a robot like manager, that the store would not match a price discounted by a promotion. How else do prices get discounted ??? My son took the sneakers off and we gave back all the clothes we wanted to buy and left. I later ordered them from Footlocker. for $30 less.I felt because they gave me the wrong info and wasted my time they should have honored the 20 percent. I have shopped there for at least 40 years ..bad customer service. I have two very athletic boys,,,, very short sited.
I was looking for a jacket for my 9 year old and Theres barely anything there. Still I found one, but it all became confusing at one point. So... It wasnt like this last year but probably due to the pandemic. However I would like to stress that NYC has changed dramatically. It no longer had that quiet but friendly atmosphere. It seems that theres a small current of anger and frustration bubbling beneath the surface.
The 2 stars are only for my previous experiences here. Last night’s visit gets 0! Very rude and incompetent staff both at the men’s sneakers department and at checkout! The guy left us waiting for 20 minutes and then came back and said he forgot what shoes we asked for! So we ended up staying until the store closed, not our fault! Then at the checkout counter, the associate named Kaela was so rude that if it weren’t already late, I would’ve asked to talk to her manager about her attitude! We approached her with a smile and said hi, and she did not reply, did not smile, did not even look at us while ringing up our purchase and did not even hand us our bag, I had to grab it with the receipt and she did not even say bye or anything! It’s not my fault if you’re unhappy with your job, don’t take it out on the customers.I will definitely think twice before I set foot in Paragon sports!
Absolutely horrible experience just now. Helpful floor staff, but the point of sale completely ruined it for me. I will not be going back again.I tried to buy a pair of running socks but their system would not accept my debit card since it doesnt have a chip yet. I asked them to just run it as credit same bank account but I dont think she did. It was probably confusing because I was using a gift card from the store. Either way I asked them to just return my balance onto my gift card or just manually punch in the numbers. The lady called the supervisor over and said out loud this guy doesnt have 8 bucks in a condescending tone. This was my first and last time in the store. My card worked all day everywhere your system and customer service ruined my day.
I find the prices to be a hair higher than other sporting good stores in NYC and especially compared to online retailers. The prices become a deal when they have sales- particularly during their warehouse sale (I think that happens once a year...in the fall?). The sales staff is also pretty knowledgeable. I do have to say, however, that when I went there to check out the winter jacket sales recently, I was overwhelmed by the amount of products they had. The selection was almost too big. Some might enjoy having such an array of jackets, but I found it difficult to even walk around such tight quarters, let alone examine the selection.
I came to Paragon for a trip I was taking to Patagonia. On the camping floor, I was helped by sales person Michael Ferranti. He was so helpful and knowledgeable about what I needed for my trip. Michael recommended everything I needed which meant a lot to me. He even carried all my stuff down to check out for me, which he didnt have to do. Michael is a huge asset to your store :)
Wasted half a day on the incompetence of this store. I will never shop Paragon again. Ordered some shoes online for in store pickup. After calling twice to verify, went there during my only time off to find the wrong shoes in the wrong box which could have been easily prevented by someone actually looking in the box.
Paragon is like the Best Buy of sporting good store. It has all the basic generic brands for the general consumer and tourists who flock there like it is the only sporting goods store in the city. If you want something of better quality, best to go to your specific needs (tennis a tennis shop etc). The staff is friendly and generally knows about the products you are looking for just without the blue shirt and khakis.
This a great sports gear store! My trainer sent me here for boxing gloves and hand wraps. When it came to boxing gloves they didnt have much of a variety but they did have some. They had plenty of hand wraps that I purchased but I had to pass on the gloves because I was looking for the 100% leather boxing gloves at a reasonable price and I didnt find it here. They also have a great shoe selection on the 2nd floor.
I stopped by the store recently and it wasnt much stocked at all. It had the vibe as though it was going out of business. I wouldnt waste my time going to the store to look for things unless you call first to confirm availability or ordering it online for delivery/pickup.
Place is great if you want to go in and review something for an online purchase... Like if you want to see the new model of bags/bikes/blades/etc coming out.But far too expensive to actually buy from them. You can find online retailers that charge so much lower than this store.Still, a good place in the middle of the busiest city in the world to do some window shopping.
Best sports store in NYC. The city really knows how to push out small businesses but paragon has held its ground and made itself a landmark. Its incredibly well stocked with three stories of gear. It is not the cheapest place to buy your stuff but if you need an experts opinion.
The best thing about paragon are its employees. They are pretty friendly and very helpful. Thankfully a lot of them are runners or sport players so they know how you feel and can really help you find what youre looking for. The service they offer you really pays off when buying a new pair of running shoes.
I went in here for the first time the day before my first NYC marathon. It was insanely busy but somehow there were a lot of salespeople available for consultation (I needed a running belt for my phone and house keys) and the line moved really fast. The experience was so nice that I went back soon after and enjoyed shopping there once again. Contrary to a Modells, the people working there all seems genuinely invested in the lifestyle, care about their jobs and about making and keeping customers happy. How refreshing!Amendment: I went back twice since this review and theyve been the most wonderfully helpful salespeople. I picked out a great dri fit shirt for my boyfriend and cycling shoes for myself. David in the cycling department is a GEM and I would have been lost without him. He helped me get the right fit on my shoes for my cycling style and level (beginning/intermediate and indoor only) and Im so so happy with them.
Unlike Modells, this is an actual sporting goods store. They have equipment for playing many sports -- and more equipment that sporty clothing. I got cleats here, and there were several options to try on at different price points. While I was trying them on, the employee helped a kid and his mom pick out a correctly sized baseball bat and glove, working within their budget and the instructions from the baseball team. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The only drawback is the building is a bit of a maze - try to remember how you went in, or itll be hard to get back to the registers and exit!
Pretty much the only one-stop sports equipment store in manhattan. Definitely pricey. But they match prices and often have flash sales. I go here for running supplies before every race I run. Great hiking gear too. Better than REI which has 80% of its inventory in jackets.
I love Paragon, they carry everything. BTW, for those of you complaining about a bargain, theres a way to get that. If the product you want is available online for a better price from another store or an official amazon store, like say Wilsons amazon store, Paragon will match the price. I go to them for Tennis and Squash specifically so my experiences have been limited to those two sections. I think they have a great selection and while prices are high, I just always find a better deal and make them match it.
Wide selection on everything!!!!... Prices are very competitive also.We went there specifically to buy running shoes, and they have the video/treadmill tipe of running test, they also allow you to test your options of shoes before buy it... Honestly its the best way to buy running shoes and any person serious about this sport should buy it in this way... They also have the widest selection of running watchs I ever see... So any brand you want to try you can find it there, way easier to choose.I know they also offer other services, related to other sports (like rewiring tenis racquets) but i cant give an honest opinion about the quality of this services cause I never use them
The selection is great and the guys that helped us *did* know what they were talking about but the overall customer service left much to be desired. I wasnt sure if the two guys helping us (one was the manager) were complete airheads or high as a kite on drugs. They also took forever to set up my husbands bindings; partly because they were space cadets and partly because they kept stopping to chat and.or flirt with the female employees. It took over 3 hrs to buy snow boots and bindings and as we went to leave we realized they were not on correctly and had to wait even longer for them to fix it.
Outstanding sporting good store. If you dont find it here...they have it online...if they dont have it online...chances are it doesnt actually exist....store is 3 floors of all sports/fitness needs. No sport is excluded at Paragon. Dope store. Excellent customer service - without hounding you.
I used to really like this store and had bought camping equipment from them. But I will no longer give them my business because Ive learned they carry Canada Gross coats, and other coats with real fur trim. Id rather find sporting goods and outdoor supplies from a a more ethical business that doesnt support horrible companies like Canada Goose. Stop carrying fur and Id love to come back.
Overpriced doesnt even begin to describe this place. The workers know little to nothing about the actual products being sold. You shop here if you have more money than brains. Its unreal what they try to get away with. Comparatively shop, do yourself a favor. Its great to try stuff on and then buy from anywhere else.
1) Did not honor store-provided coupons: 20% off full-priced running footwear/apparel/accessories could only be applied to one piece of specifically labeled merchandise, rather than what this coupon usually means: any running stuff you buy in this purchase is going to be 20% off.2) Customer service told me to eff off, because it wasnt her problem. Then mentioned that a LOT of people had been bitching at her all day about it. Thanks, lady.3) This store doesnt have actually useful outdoors/sporting gear if you arent a rich person who wants to look chic doing tennis, yoga, or skiing. There were no large-ish womens shoes, nor did they have a single sports bra that would have handled my average cup size in any sort of sport that has more impact than yoga.
Paragon sports has a great selection of all sorts of urban sporting goods. It has a fun atmosphere to explore different products. Given that they are a one off store and not a chain, they can be more expensive than their competitors. They have excellent customer service.
Poor customer service! Over priced! Got a $20 card after buying for $$$ ... thought it said expired Jan 2020 and not 1/20/20... only few days ... genuine mistake. Customer service assistant looked at me as if I was like pffff! Can’t you see it expired... well actually I didn’t or I wouldn’t be using it would I? Anyway no discount, no assistance!
Buyer beware: DO NOT come here to get your skis mounted/edged or waxed. The people in the basement that work in the ski department know NOTHING and will end up drilling/tapping your skis not to spec and mess things up permanently. There’s especially one guy that could give fewer f**** about helping you and really does not want to work there. Just Google ski shops in Manhattan and you’ll find much better options. This place is mostly tailored toward being a tourist trap (mostly Europeans just visiting, not knowing about their surrounds). Support the smaller ski shops that actually know why they’re doing and actually give a f***.
Ive come here for sports clothing and bike tape. They have a selection of skates, bikes, etc. Pretty large multi-level store. The line moves quickly and sometimes they do promotions outside where if you throw some beanbags succesfully through a hoop you can a ticket for a discount.
Really poor. I spent $500 on baseball gear and had them break in a glove for me. I was told to come back the next day to pick it up. Went back two days later and the glove hadnt even been touched. The shop clerk didnt care, offered a lame sorry and a isnt my fault what can I do. Supervisor was even less interested.Poor form. Bad service. Look some where else.
Placed an online order for a snowboard on Tue night for two day shipping. Was contacted by phone on Wed morning to confirm the order and was told I would receive it on Fri. Contacted them on Sat morning because I had not received the order. They said that the item is not available. The item still shows as available on their site, they never sent any tracking info, or an email telling me the item was not available. I would not recommend ordering online from this retailer.
It seems like people confuse a smiling face with a helpful staff. I would give this store zero stars if I could. I walked in with a flat tire on my bike, and the lady at the entrance tells me that we dont do flats here. Then I figured I might as well take advantage of the free tune-ups, and they said it would be ready 2 days later. 20 minutes later while Im on the train, I get a voicemail that the tune-up is complete. Needless to say the mechanics didnt do any work on the bike. The only bright spot I can take comfort in is that its unacceptable service like this is why stores are going out if business. Why deal with poor service when I can get better and cheaper online? You stay classy, Paragon...
I went to Paragons with my wife to purchase a Canadian goose Parker. It was Christmas Eve, approximately 6 p.m., an hour before they close. Natasha, the sales rep, attentively helped us find the perfect Canadian goose parka for my wife. She was very cordial, professional, and had a lot of patience. She didnt put any pressure on us at all. We felt very comfortable as my wife was trying on several coats. Ladies, if you need any sort of ski or winter attire, go into the section and find Natasha. Shes by far the best seles rep. that I ever experienced.
Needed several pairs of breathable pants for a 2 week trip to Peru. Our trip would have us hiking in EXTREME cold and EXTREME heat within a few hours of each other. I told the sales associate the details of my trip and asked for his advice. He recommended the perfect pair of pants at a great price. Thanks!
Paragon is a great place to shop for sporting equipment and sportswear. This is a department store and theyve got a lot to choose from. Nice selection of jackets, shoes, sunglasses, clothing. There are sales and you could do well. Fitting rooms and a bathroom located downstairs for your convenience.
One of the premiere consumer source for sportswear and accessories in NYC (not a small feat). variety is great for the space available. And when things are discounted they can be HUGELY discounted; otherwise it can be (case by case) from fair to pricy, really. a great store, highly recommended.
Maybe more expensive than other places and when the store is full you can forget getting a lot of help - however they have a huge selection and it is very conveniently located (at least from my home-base). Got a great winter-coat and certainly still paid less than back home in Europe. Id come again.

2022-07-03Literally the only place in the city where you can get inline skates. I tried a dozen. They have really nice (expensive) ones but also some nice basic affordable ones. Staff are very friendly and helpful

2022-08-15Thank you . The service was excellent. They give me 30 minutes of there time and good advices for Football Equipment for my sons. With a really nice and professional attitude. Thank you him. And it was the 5th store where I was looking for football equipment, which is rare in NYC.

2022-04-13Great place and huge selections of goods to choose from. The only reason for my rating is personal experience. I was here for buying expensive running shoes, albeit i got a cold shoulder response from the rep there. Don’t know if it was my appearance or prejudiced judgement that I won’t but the shoes I was told there was no stock. I came all the way from New Jersey after calling the store and ensure on site the stick was available. It was indeed available as well, but not sure why I was told that way. Not much options provided as well, felt like I was unwanted so left to jackrabbit in Columbus circle and got what I wanted spent good 400$ on shoes and accessories which was the only other place this stock was in inventory.

2021-04-22Went today to get my tennis permit and to get my tennis racquets restrung and the staff was very helpful in the tennis racquet area. Totally 180 the people working in the tennis and shoe department was totally not helpful and was more interested in talking about the people that work there and what movies they are watching. He literally got the shoes I asked for, didn’t say a single word. No questions no comments and went back to talking o his co-worker about nothing. I might as well have bought it online and probably have gotten more information and better service. I used to like this place but after this service. I don’t know if I would recommend this place. I have two stars because the tennis section was very helpful.

2022-03-19After accepting and confirming my order, was emailed two days later that they were cancelling my order because of limited stock (not that they aren’t out of stock). They are lying. The TRUTH was that I got a 15% discount as a first time online purchase that they did not want to honor. It doesn’t get shadier than that folks. Shop elsewhere at a place that honors their sales and prices.

2022-06-09To buy here wasnt a pleasant and easy experience. I felt pretty ignored and when I ask for the third time for help the old man working there throw me a tantrum. There is not such a variety as you can find in Decathlon, for instance. Better to buy onlinr somewhere else.

2022-08-09Went to buy some tennis shoes today and the reps didn’t show interest. The worst thing was that after paying I realized the ticket said “Clearance Sale - All returns are final” even when I payed a full price and they weren’t any discounts. The cashier also didn’t say anything about this. Bad experience.

2022-03-12Customer service assumes the customer is wrong and one must go through a lengthy process to rectify errors on the part of P.S. It would be so much easier if the customer service rep would take the time to look at the situation instead of reciting canned responses that dont fit the situation. Long story short: two errors on the part of P.S. has led to two additional errors of not refunding merchandise that was shipped damaged and returned and a second replacement order that turned out to be out of stock....so was cancelled but never refunded either. The cc company is picking up the work on these disputed charges. I will never purchase from P.S. again. The time consumed by these customer service representatives is not worth it.
