Love Patsys!! This place offers full barber services for very reasonable prices. Its my go-to, James Mueller is top notch! Occasionally, other barbers have cut my hair and Ive never been disappointed. Friendly, fast, and they always have me looking good. Classic shave with aftershave that they make on-prem. Check em out!
I’m a female to male transgender, so going to a barber shop isn’t necessarily easy for me. But when I walked into Patsy’s I was greeted professionally and nicely. My barber was William and he wasn’t on time, he was early. Made great conversation and cleaned me up right and quick! Makes you feel very comfortable in his chair. So efficient, so clean, and I got exactly what I wanted. 10/10 recommend!
The barbers at Patsys are professional and treated my questions with respect. My barber happened to be the owner of the place, right of the bat you could tell he loves his profession and has the skills to back it up. The hot towels and straight razor clean up on my neck and beard was perfect. My hair looked great two weeks ago and looks great now. That in my opinion is the true test of a haircut. This is definitely a place I will be coming back to and recommend all of you doing the same.
I went to Patsys for the first time recently, and I could not have been happier with my choice. Great conversation, quality haircut, and my barber James gave me some really helpful and knowledgeable tips for my own haircare routines. I will absolutely be returning the next time I need a trim!
This barber shop treats you with respect from the minute you walk in to the minute you walk out. The barbers are very professional here and make sure you get the hair cut you want. What is nice about this location is the hours of operation they are open past 5pm. This is great for the people that work Monday to Friday that get out of work at 4pm. They have a place to go and get a great hair cut. The shop is very clean and it is the old style of barbershop which is great. You do not have to have an appointment to get your hair cut here. The wait for a walk in sometimes is a little wait but not anything that is very long at all. Give it a try next time you need a hair cut.Just wanted to add to this that Daemon cut my hair the other day did a great job. Very professional and makes sure your cut is how you want it done. This is an updated review as of 4/11/22. Had a new barber do my hair cut today. His name was Jay very polite and professional. Did a great job on my hair. This is one of my favorite places to go get a haircut at.
Great atmosphere and great barbers in the Capital Region. Hands down. I work in the same building with the shop and took a leap of faith with them. Such a great place, the barbers are excellent and such a classic vibe that reminds me of the places my dad used to take me when I was younger. Thanks for the great haircut and looking forward to coming back.
Has an old school barbershop feel. The barbers take their time and give you a really professional haircut with attention to detail. They are also very friendly and really try to understand the person sitting in the chair and try to be engaging. It is a bit pricey, however the service is high quality and they dont just cut hair. If you need attention to your beard or any style of facial hair you have they will help you to look good.
Another outstanding haircut at Patsy’s for my son and I!!! Could not ask for a more professional, pleasant, and enjoyable experience. This was our first time back since the pandemic hit and they did not disappoint!!! Patsy’s is so incredibly worth the trip from Massachusetts. Thanks Daemon for the outstanding haircuts!!! We’ll see you next month!!!
First time there, awesome place. Super clean and very welcoming! Atmosphere is really relaxed and the shop itself has a really cool vibe. My barber was Francesco. Best cut Ive had in years! Definitely recommend going there to anyone.Updated: always have a great cut every time I go no matter which barber I have.
Patsys is good, the staff are fun and friendly, they know what they are doing. The staff also takes pride in the history of the business which one can really appreciate. The babers offered samples and give an ok haircut. For what you get, is its a decent value. Will try it again at some point, but not committed as a loyal customer at the moment. Why? My haircut wasnt what I was looking for, dont get me wrong, it was a good haircut and my barber did a great job, highly recommend him! It was just a bit more hair off then I wanted. Next time I will try showing a picture of what I want rather than trying to describe it.Overall: Give Patsys a shot, they provide good quality services
I’m new to Albany, and I was pretty nervous about going to a new barber. I haven’t had anyone but my old barber cut my hair in over 2 years, so I read the outstanding reviews on this shop and went to check it out. I came out with one of the best haircuts I’ve ever had! This place is great, and it has a laid-back, friendly atmosphere, and I’d highly recommend it to anyone in the area!
Been going to Patsys for over 3 years now. I always walk-in and take whoever is available. Most recently Angela cut my hair. She was new and it was my first time sitting with her. She ended up giving me one of the best cuts Ive had since going there. Although, Ive never had a bad haircut from Patsys. Cool atmosphere, laid-back staff. Overall a great place for a haircut or beard trim.
Ive gotten my hair cut at the Howard St. location for about 5 years and got great haircuts every time, no matter who did it. I never had to pick one barber to see since theyre all great. I love the vibe of the crew and the original decor makes for an awesome experience.Ive gone to the new concourse location twice now and have continued getting phenomenal haircuts (Peter both times who is personable, knowledgeable and passionate about barbering) with the same energy of the original shop. Just closer to my office!
Been going to Patsys for a couple years now after a recommendation from a friend after moving from schenectady to Albany. Always a great cut and great Atmosphere. Even if my regular barber isnt in, I know I can sit down in anyones chair and always have a great experience.
All original furnishings! A classy looking place, in the heart of downtown Albany. They do take appointments, but had a spare barber for walk ins no waiting for me! Hot towel and neck shave - nice. At $20 a cut, its pricey for me, but very competitive with other downtown or Lark St places I know of.
This place is great: awesome, friendly barbers that will do you up right. They also give advice if youre not sure on a cut. Ive been there about 5x now and always come out feeling great. Plus, you can always have a beer while you wait or during your cut!My girlfriend also enjoyed the salon next door also under the Patsys name.
Been toying with the idea of shaving my head for a bit. Came to Albany briefly for the bar, so figured that getting it done right after would be a fitting end to my trip. Looked up barbers in Albany and came to Patsys for their high ratings. Plus, if youre going to make a drastic hair change, do it right and get it done by a bunch of burly, tattooed men. Anyway, 5 stars doesnt do them justice, and Id give them 6 stars if I could. Patsys made up for Albany. The service was fantastic, and I especially enjoyed the beer - very nice touch. I also appreciated that they didnt try to talk me out of getting my head shaved. They were incredibly professional and nice, and I loved their overall vibe. Great sense of camaraderie between everyone, and it really added to the experience. And after all my hair was sheared off, they very generously comped it. I feel great, and I love the result. Thanks so much, gentlemen!
Been coming to this shop for just over 3 years. Mike Richmond has been my guy since my second visit. I have never left disappointed. Patsy to me is the quintessential mens barber shop. Once you walk in youll get that 50s madmen feel. I strongly suggest calling for an appointment, unless your going during a slow time. Which doesnt seem to happen often. This is Cash only, So make sure you stop at one of the few banks within a blocks walk , or use the ATM in the back of the shop. This is Join by the pin up parlor. The barber shop isnt just for men, ladies that was a fade, or undercut design are welcome. Besides getting a fresh cut, you can get one of the best shaves of your life, shoe shine. Great stop for any weddings happening at any of the weddings venue on state street or nearby.
I had my first haircut with Peter yesterday at the Concourse location. Not only is he technically skilled, he actually listens and gave me a haircut that I dare say is probably the best haircut I’ve ever had! Plus, he’s a really nice guy as well. Ask for Peter! You will not be disappointed. I’ll be going back next month for another haircut.
The first time I visited Patsys, it was a wonderful experience. The decor was a throwback to another era and the vibe was friendly and welcoming. I was very pleased with my haircut as I walked out the door. Unfortunately my second visit was anything but that. Consistency is crucial when providing a service. You want to walk in knowing what the outcome will be. Not hoping for the best. My result was one of the worst haircuts I ever had. Uneven sculpting of the sides was pronounced. The hair cutter disregarded my instructions and did not take care to insure that my desires were met. As for the other two haircutters, I cannot speak as to their abilities.
Update 1 year later: Still a 5 star place. Nick is incredible as a barber and the atmosphere in the shop is fantastic. Dont bother with any where else. Best in the Capital District!Stopped in to have my hair done and beard trimmed. Worked with Brett and despite my terrible instructions and me not knowing what I wanted he gave me the best cut and trim of my beard that Ive ever had! Will only be going here from now on whenever I need a cut. Thank you all!
Ive been going here for about 2 years now and Ive never ever had a bad experience. Great atmosphere and great barbers. I was in a bit of a hurry today- I needed to be at a graduation at the T.U. center in an hour. My barber was Pete and I couldnt have asked for a better barber. He was fast and efficient. It is by far the best hair cut Ive had yet. I didnt know exactly what I wanted but he exceeded my expectations. Been getting a bunch of compliments today - thanks Pete from Patsys!
I highly recommend Patsys Barber Shop. The atmosphere is always upbeat, happy & respectful while the quality of the haircut is superior to any other shop in the area. Upon entering Patsys, you will be greeted with a smile & helped with your coat. Once you are in the chair, one of the many skilled barbers will carefully & meticulously style your hair to your exact specifications. In addition to a perfect haircut, Patsys also offers a wonderful hot shave, a variety of hair care products & shoe shine service. Over the past 10 years I have been a regular patron of Patsys Barber Shop & I can say with the utmost sincerity that it is by far the best barber shop I have ever been to. Its a great honor to have such a clean, friendly and professional business in the community.
Patsys Barber Shop is the only destination in Albany for consistently quality haircuts. When I moved to Albany as a student in 2012, I asked around everywhere for recommendations on where to get a quality haircut. The businesses I tried all fell short (bad cuts, dirty shop, etc) and I ended up regularly driving 200 miles back home to LI where at least I knew I would leave the shop looking good.Six months ago, I searched online for local barber shops that were out of the college-town scene I tried last time. The recommendations for Patsys spoke for themselves, so I took the drive down to their shop on Howard Street for a haircut and was immediately impressed. The store is spotless and has the great old school barber shop feel. All the guys down at Patsys are friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable -- their primary concern is giving you the cut you want so you leave looking AND feeling good.I always walk in without an appointment and wait for the first available barber -- not ONCE have any of them given me anything less than a quality cut. The past few times I have gone in Ive had my man Brett who KILLS IT every time; he can do a mean fade and his beard shaping skills are on-point.If you live in the Albany area and dont go to Patsys Barber Shop for your haircuts, youre not looking as good as you could. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for the perfect cut.
Originally gave this place 4 stars, but only because I mislicked the 5th star and didnt realize. Barbers were great and personable. Classic style and decor inside along with some great music makes for a great experience. Haircut was real solid and inexpensive. Straight razor shave and everything. Barbers treated me wonderfully. Sorry for the 4 star mix-up originally -- this place is definitely worth the 5 stars!P.S. Im not from around the area but have held out until I made the 3 hour trip back for my last 2 haircuts.
Simply the best barber shop Ive been to, by far. And I have been to many around New York. They treat haircuts like an art and truly care that you leave with exactly what you wanted. Plus, everyone who works there is a very cool, down-to-earth guy. Couldnt reccomend enough if you care about you hairstyle.
My husband and I came here on a whim based on the positive reviews and left very happy. I can honestly say neither one of us has ever been happy with any haircut weve ever received. Nik took his time and did a phenomenal job on my husband hair and the apprentice fella (I didnt catch his name) chatted with us while we waited. Overall everyone was very friendly and added to the great atmosphere and vibe of the place. He will definitely be making a return visit & I will be making an appointment next door. Keep up the fantastic work!
I used to live in Albany, and I’ve tried to find new barbers in Ballston Spa where I live now. I gave up on that idea, because no one can give me a hair cut like Donny down at Patsy’s. All the barbers know what they’re doing, and are all professional, friendly and it’s always a good conversation in there. I drive 40 minutes to get my hair cut there, If that gives you any idea of how good they are!
Patsy’s has very experienced barbers and of the 10 times I’ve been there I’ve never had a bad cut. It’s probably better to make an app’t but I’m a last minute kind of guy so I take my chances as a walk in. They always treat me great anyway. They always take their time, ask you what kind of cut you want and they always check in with you during the cut to make sure you’re happy with the progress. I think of them like Uber drivers for hair. Professional, they make very friendly small talk, confirm what you want and deliver you to you hair destination in one piece. And the hot towel at the end really makes the experience feel special. Best of all they are almost always open, even Sunday!! I try to tip a little extra but I never feel pressured, they are super appreciative always. My son is 17 and he loves Patsy’s too. Sometimes he goes on his own with a friend or two. Highly recommended.
Went there for the first time today as a walk-in, had to wait about half a hour or so and both the barbers I watched were doing an excellent job. Then William Tragedy Yager arrived (the owner) who quickly got me into a chair and after the usual figuring out what the hell I want my hair to look like he gave me a fantastic haircut in about 25 minutes.Great atmosphere, great music, clean floor, and the barbers are well groomed and dressed. Will go again
I wasnt aware of Patsys. My fiance got her hair done at the salon and I went over to see if the barbershop would take walk ins and sure enough they did. Had Mark cut my hair and I am extremely happy with the results, the guys here really seem to care about the work they do and it shows. Definitely recommend to anyone
I normally dont review any places but after numerous barbershops that have left me wanting a extra sharp cut I cant help but give my two cents regarding this establishment. Patsy has given me one of the sharpest fine haircuts i have had the pleasure of experiencing. I moved to the area about 4 months ago from Houston. Mind you there is an abundance of fine shops in Houston that I have been to but Patsy is just as great if not greater. I received a cut from Brent and after a consult he delivered a perfect cut - tight modern undercut with a slick back. They have earned my business thats for sure!
Excellent barbers. Shop can get pretty busy so call ahead to find out if there is a wait. Each barber keeps his own schedule of appointments. They also do shaves and trim beards if you want that service. Finding a parking spot close to the shop can be hard at times but you can usually find a spot within a block maybe block and a half.
Great cut but $30 for a cut? Yikes. Last time I’ll go here. Everything else was good. Just too costly or maybe I’m just too cheap for this place.*Update* The business owner cared to reach out to me and clarify why the price was so high. I was a bit ignorant in understanding how COVID has taken a toll on their business and how they are struggling to stay open so to be clear the up charge is to help mitigate the loss of customers and cost of PPE. I appreciated his explanation and in turn have revised my rating. I support local business and we are all in this together.
This is a true local business that Im happy to spend my money at as its worth every penny ($20 Haircuts). Its a pleasure to sit in such a comfortable atmosphere and let talented professionals work. I dont think Id let anyone else near me with a straight razor, including myself.Nick Slik is the only barber Ive had a cut from, and Ill be giving him my business for as long as Im in Albany. I do want to point out that the rest of the staff comes with just as much praise, just check the rest of these reviews.
I’ve been going to Patsy’s for just over two years. The business itself is beautifully decorated with a traditional feel, and the barbers are professional, artfully skilled, and friendly. This business defines professionalism in its industry. I’m shocked that they don’t charge triple their rates.
I am 27 years old and i’ve had my hair cut in many places. There is no exaggeration coming from me when i say Patsy’s is the only place that can evoke excitement in me. Usually i dread getting a trim or whatever, because most places have completely messed up my hair, or have done only an okay job. Patsy’s is sick. I’m relaxed, and not worried about how I look and the vibe is sick. Jameson is the barber who hooks me up, but everyone seems really into what they do and are all incredibly talented.
Price is reasonable for hair and beard. I go to Joe and he does a great job on my hair and my beard, which is great because its getting big and I dont really know what to do with it. Patsys has a distinctly old feel (in the historic sense) but isnt stodgy at all. Everyone there is really down to earth. Theyre open early and late and dont have weird closed days like Im used to.Most cities do not have a barber shop even close to this good.Cash only.
I used to love this place but now I think this place is overrated.Three times in a row, after waiting for at least half hour before each haircut I was disappointed with the haircut I received. Also, they work cash only in this era!Update 05-31-18 :The owner William contacted me shortly after submitting the original review. He INSISTED on refunding the money and he did it right away.He also invited me to his new shop and said that he personally will take care of my haircut the next time. This kind of service deserve another chance and hence updating the rating.
First time writing a review. Twice my hair was butchered. I should have learned the first time. Went in to clean up a fade and explained myself clearly. Barbers ended up going way too high and cutting hair off the top to try and balance it. Ended up shaving it all off for the second time in my life... (first time was boot camp.)$20 for the service was insult to injury. Needless to say I would not recommend.
Honestly not sure why I havent been going to Patsys to get my haircuts. After going through numerous barbers, these guys are the one. Hands down best in the area. I always thought this place was hyped up, but the reviews are true to their word.My first visit was a walk in on a Friday. Was promptly in the chair and getting a haircut within 10-15 minutes. Joey Bag-O-Doughnuts was great and never had me questioning what was going on. Will be returning for sure.
How nice would it be to just walk into a barber shop for a cut and not have to hold their hand through the whole thing. Second time thats happened to me here. If you know whos good, make an appointment but dont walk in. I was in a pinch had to get it cut but now Ill spend more money to get my basic short mens haircut fixed tomorrow. Everything was uneven, top was butchered. Spent almost an hour in the chair trying to figure it out and nobody could be bothered to help him. This is not the kind of old school place that it makes itself out to be. Them will hire anyone and let them loose.
One of the best cuts Ive ever gotten. As a student at a State Uni out in the country its a struggle to find a good place to get my hair cut and now Ive found it. Shoutout to Dakota for the sick fade. Great vibe in the store, they wouldve given me a couple PBRs but Im 20 years old lol.I highly recommend this spot, they are detail oriented and well trained barbers and the shop is great all around.
I am very particular when it comes to finding a barber. So when I transferred to UAlbany it took me a while to find a great place. Tucked away on the Corner of North Pearl and Howard Street, Patsys is a hidden Gem. Great Staff, great haircuts, Highly recommended. Trag, the head barber suggested a new haircut for me, I decided to give it a try. It was the best haircut Ive gotten in a long time. I will never go to Another barber as long as I am in the Capitol District.
Only reason they didnt get the 5th star is no plastic, cash only. Cmon guys, drop the $20 on Square for the shopGreat old school barbershop vibe and ball busting, and the best straight razor shaves in Albany (when Im too lazy to do my own).Definitely worth the wait when there is one, but go on weekends, because week day parking is a PITA.
A baber shop whos real business comes from foot traffic as there is nothing but on street meter parking. Atmosphere was nice and vintage looking minus the look of the barbers and the rock music being played. Average haircut and absolutely no beard shaping skills at all. Was surprised when part of my haircut was done without a cape on. Hair down my back Ive come to terms with. Being covered in the front is inexcusable.
Very 1920s style barber shop that pays attention to detail. This local legendary shop has tons of history. Once you step inside and smell the bay rum and see the interior you feel like youve been teleported to the flapper era.Barbers expertly shave and trim hair with casual male banter. Theres a small fridge stocked with beer and water that you can help yourself to while you wait. Once its your turn for a cut, be prepared for something special. These guys use straight razors for a close shave and good fades.Beards are welcome for a good trimming! I get my fancy head styling here exclusively. After they make you a beautiful man peach, they wrap a hot towel around your head and send you on your way.Things to know: Street parking, cash only (atm inside) and call ahead, they can get pretty busy.
Its a bit of a haul from RPI, but busses drop you off right around the corner. I have curly hair and they did a great job, as well as a free shampoo and neck shave, and they put some product in my hair after, which was nice. I believe the person who cut my hair was Marge, but she did a great job!
Called for an appointment. They said just walk in. Walked in, they said two barbers were appt. only and 45 min wait. I said great, now I have a spot I will go next door for lunch. Nope, have to sit. Not very welcoming of my business. Too bad, I always tip 50 percent!
Looks like a drunk eight year old girl with a drinking problem did my edge up. For the beard, the bully that cut the class floosies (seems to go along with the cheese ball theme of the old school shop) hair in chemistry class could have done a better job with a broken beaker.Classic hair cuts that are 15 years behind the times trying to keep up with Brooklyn trends.
I AM THE PICKIEST PERSON AND JUSTYN FROM PATSYS IS THE ONLY PERSON I LET COLOR AND CUT MY HAIR,HERES THE KICKER, I LIVE 839 MILES AWAY, SO YES NO ONE ELSE CUTS MY HAIR,HE IS A GREAT ARTIST AND WILL CONSULT WITH ME BEFORE EVERY CUT....TRAG HAS A GREAT PLACE AND A GREAT STAFF, IT LOOKS SO COOL INSIDE,OLD SCHOOL.LOOK AT THE PICS THEY HAVE...KEEP IT UP PATSYS.....THANK YOU VERY MUCH

2022-05-31This is the best barbershop in Albany! I’ve used several of the barbers for myself and my two boys. Every cut is custom and perfectly done. They’re professional and fun! When I wait for my boys cut I have even had a beer. The only barbershop I’ll ever use in the capital region.

2022-06-08A lot of Albany barbers aren’t great honestly. These guys though are better than most barbers that I’ve been to in the city. Daemon is an incredible barber I had him. Slightly more expensive than other places but you get the best of the best here and a really cool shop with a lot of history. Don’t go anywhere else for your fade, let these guys get you right!

2022-01-15I never really liked getting haircuts before, but this is the first time Ive ever walked out of a barbershop actually feeling good about my cut. Jay was super nice, friendly, and actually gave me the best haircut Ive ever gotten before. Definitely coming back.

2022-05-11Not happy at all. The fade was uneven and really inconsistent. The beard was uneven compared from left to right side. That’s the worst haircut I’ve had in years. I had to go back home and use my trimmer to fix some of the blunders he did. I might be wrong, but the hairstylist was a rookie who had started and needed more practice and I was kinda his new practice dummy that day. When I showed him that that the beard was uneven from left to right, he made up some reason that left side had less hair 🤦🏻♂️, which is not true. Unfortunately I drove 40 mins from my place to get there. I’m never going back.*UPDATE*The owner of the establishment contacted me and was extremely apologetic and amazing about the experience. He wanted to make things right and also offered refunding my money, and giving me a new haircut. Even though the haircut can’t be reversed, I would like to update the review for the amazing effort and hopefully visiting them again for a better experience.

2022-05-10Staff is professional and have great conversations. Haircut was best Ive had in a long time. The fact they preserve the history of the business while most feel the need to constantly update, sets this business apart from the rest.

2022-05-31Super friendly, nice atmosphere, prices good. I think it was 20 for a mens cut..I dont recall, but they did a good job. They informed me the parking meters were free on weekends as I was feeding it. Old timey feel..and beer in the fridge ;)

2022-02-21This is a true barber shop with experienced barbers who can do skin fades. I went in today hoping to have a bad haircut fixed and Jay totally hooked me up. I am so happy with the cut that I will be coming up from Poughkeepsie every month so Jay can cut my hair. Thank you Jay.

2021-10-12Didn’t have an appointment and they still squeezed me in as they’re extremely generous. Barbers make it have a good atmosphere and engage with their customers extremely well. Haircut is worth the price, extreme quality for the price you pay. If you’re a college student in the area get yourself to this place and don’t worry about going home for a cut. Will be coming here more frequently.

2021-11-11Absolutely fabulous experience. I throughly enjoyed my conversation with James, and was pleasantly surprised to see myself smiling after a very clean fade & cut. This place holds so much history and age old tales to go with it. A key standout for me was their in-house styling products, warm shaving foam and aftershave. All in all, a true homage to the classic Italian barbershop.
