Paulas in other cities:
I was so ashamed that I discarded 3 fish sandwiches, macaroni and cheese and collard greens, it was unconceivable disgusting. It was the worst - the whiting fish sandwiches were very tiny, full of bones, unseasoned, unappealing to the eye and not enough to lay under 2 slices of bread. The Macaroni and cheese discolored slightly orange, seasoned with pepper and some some other seasoning that definitely did not compliment the dish undigestable. Called the establishment to share and was left on hold for 5 minutes and i hung up. Unprofessional.
Ordered for the first via uber eats and I was truly satisfied with the portion and the taste of the food. I had ordered some cake slices but they was out. I ordered all shrimp which was jumbo and fried to perfection, Along with the all wings. A side of candied yams and Mac and cheese. All delicious I was happy with my order. I did order a slice of cornbread and it was lacking...it was super flat and burned I ended up tossing it. Aside from the cornbread I will definitely be ordering again.
Spent 50 bucks here on three meals, the beef rib was undercooked, not seasoned, and more fat than meat. Turkey Wings & mac and cheese are just so bland, not even any salt thrown in, crazy.Cornbread does not taste the same as it did last year or the year prior, now you get burnt tasteless pieces and its not even worth it.This place was a 5+ start restaurant but something changed and they started not caring about quality of food. The portion sizes have always been consistent but if the food aint taste good, its such a waste man.I hope the owners see this and can make changes for the best.
The Mac and cheese is ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. I paid for Mac and cheese and instead I received noodles and butter !!!!! My teriyaki salmon was WAYYYYYY TOO SALTY and the salmon was way too UNDERCOOKED. Plus I didn’t even receive the potato salad I ordered. Each time I call the restaurant, the line is COMPLETELY BUSY ! Totally UNACCEPTABLE!!!!!
This was so disappointing !! The greens are LARGE !! The breast & wing reminded me of what a chicken spot would sell . The reviews that say they will send you ANYTHING is true .I did not get a side I ordered , they decided to just give me anything . Thankfully I ordered through door dash & was able to get a portion back . H o r r I b l e
Service was horrible I ordered food.I waited almost 2 hrs never got my food.I tried calling the store to find out their number is disconnected.I had call seamless to cancel my order. If you cant handle the business dont be in the business.Im in the food restaurant business. We never have our customers wait for 1hr or more for their food. Also the fact their phone number is disconnected is bad business.
Dont even try and call in an order. Just plain rude how they dont answer/hang up/lie that its a short hold. Then check out the wet floor Department of Health!? That said I saw the food being constantly attended to and lots of glove changing. Major plus on that. Food nicely seasoned. The potato salad is amazing and the cornbread was good. Portions are good. Prices are fine.
Dont blink your eye cuz youll pass this place by, which would be a great mistake. Just the counter for eating in, so plan on taking your food home and enjoying. My son had the beef ribs and I had the catfish. We also had a side of the wings very good.Plus..... try it for a discount on Groupon
At one point i would have given paulas 5 stars. But on a rainy friday i ordered lunch and it was terrible. The chicken was burnt they only had corn that was watery the mac n cheese was dry and the rice and beans was spoiled. This completely turned me off and on top of that it took a hour to deliver after they realised that the had the wrong number when i called back. Terrible experience truly disappointed. This is a pic of the food at its best not what they delivered 10/24/18 Paulas is a joke when it come to customer service. 10 minute holds on the phone Ive been waiting for a order for an hour. I had to hang up and call back to place a order and repeat my name and address so many times i wanted to send it though a text. Youre doing bad Paula. Bad Bad
I love the food the first time I had just sides macaroni and cheese, collard greens, yams, rice and a rum cake everything was delicious second time I got shrimp and chicken combo with Mac, greens and yams everything was good but the shrimp tasted a little off and Some chicken pieces were a bit salty
They shouldn’t even get a 1 star. The food is disgusting. I’ve given it 2 chances. Whoever idea of Mac and cheese that is needs to throw it out and start a new recipe. Stop using wiz cheese or what ever orange cheap cheese sauce but it’s disgusting. Only thing that’s good is the fried chicken wings.
This place is only getting three stars because of the inferior service. When you call this place, you could be placed on hold for at least 15 to 20 minutes. The cook is very attentive to the customers. The cashier needs more training. However, the food is great. Well seasoned. Great portion size.
I placed 3 orders for pickup. Fried chicken, BBQ chicken and baked chicken. I received chicken wings that I didnt order that were the smallest, hardest pieces of chicken Ive ever attempted to eat 😫. The baked was either leftover or been cooked since morning. The same with the BBQ just wet from the sauce. Not one piece of chicken I ate was moist and juicy. Every piece was overcooked. The potato salad was sweet. Miracle whip probably. The veggies were very good. Just had to put it out there...oooh did I mention I spent $45 🤔
Love this place been coming here for 5 years, HOWEVER, the food is changing there’s a new cook (in my opinion) and the NEW STAFF , the very young couple who take orders are very rude, the young man is worse then the young lady. They need the old crew back or to hire new people for taking orders.Food is great never fails.
My boyfriend and I love this place, the food is always on point for us and comforting. The staff Id nice and the service is good. The place is small so youre really only getting take out but its worth it if youre in the area and in the mood for some good soul comfort food check out Paulas.
Usually I have no problems Except girl at the cashier will take her sweet time if you order in person. Today they didn’t follow instructions. Received ‘bbq’ ribs with no bbq sauce. Also asked for well done , it was medium rare. Was charged for a sweet potato pie that they did not pack. Lastly , didn’t get the cornbread that comes with the meal. I really want to support black owned businesses but it’s hard when like this one , they don’t take you seriously.
We didnt get to eat our food hot because we were on the go but, the fish was definitely fried clean, the cabbage was flavorful and crispy and the Mac n cheese was alright. The CORNBREAD was on POINT even though the cashier and I had to have a square off for it. Overall we might go back.
I usually order from Paulas on 233rd through UBER Eats. Every time I have ordered, they have forgotten to put something in the bag. My orders are usually between $60 and $100. Today I ordered 5 dinners, 6 drinks and 3 orders of potato salad. They forgot all three orders of potato salad, after I put in the notes not forget them, because they always do. It is very unfair for customers to spend the amount of money I always spend to have the product not delivered that was requested. Like I stated before, this have happened several times in the past and I continue to order thinking they will get it right. They never do. Im really thinking hard about not supporting this BLACK-OWNED business anymore. I have tried calling the store and reporting this, but they never answer.
Great food really nice staff. All the food we have had from Paulas has been really good. The lobster tails are outstanding. Turkey wings shrimp crabcakes all the sides and desserts are delicious. No complaints. You may have to wait but you know food is being prepared for you and not sitting under warming lights.
Good soul food especially the fried chicken n fish. The BBQ is pretty good too. Will be back to try more. The sides like the mac n cheese, yams, collards and potatoe salad were great as well. Will have to try other dishes. My only complaint is the fish was really small the second time around. They shouldve been thrown back in the sea.
Delicious soul food. Black owned restaurant. #SupportBlackBusinesses prices are reasonable. They run out of food often, towards the end of the work day from so that foot traffic. Holidays, forget about it, they usually have scrapes left from being so busy. Best to call ahead with an order or order through Uber eats or GrubHub to avoid the lines and waiting outside in the elements.
Ordered delivery. Proposed time was 3:55. It is now 5:30. The side orders were incorrect, and when I called, the woman who answered the phone made no apology for a substitution that was made, nor did she offer any remedy to my dissatisfaction with other items that were not included in my order. I told her I would not be ordering from them again, and her response was fine. Apparently they are not in need of any business, demonstrated by carelessness in fulfilling orders, and the disdain with which I (my order) was treated. I would never recommend this, and this comes from someone who never writes an unflattering review.
Its hard for me not to give a higher score. The last time we ordered they left out the potato salad on 2 orders. The delivery service reimbursed me for only one. When I called the store they said it was not their fault. My question is who packed the bag. And second of all in this day and time with our limited resources,we still try to patronize our neighborhood business and this is how we are treated. Wow
They dont answer the phone. Their candied yam were nasty; had way too much cinnamon. Their fried shrimps had a fragrant taste and were inedible. Cheesecake was frozen in the middle??? And their garlic honey wings left a lot to be desired. Even though their attitude sucked in the past their food was still good. Now? Not so much going for these guys now.
This was my first time coming here. First, when I walked in their sides and some meats were in a buffet style case & they didnt look fresh and it was sloppy. Next they had no fried chicken, she said I had to wait 20 min to fry it. Then, the gloves she handles food with is same gloves she handles all money without changing them. I thought for lunch, $15 for meat & 2 sides was pricey. The sweet potatoes have so much sugar and nutmeg I couldnt eat them. The corn bread like alot of butter. The wings were over fried. The mac & cheese was good. My husband said beef ribs were good. All staff there wasnt friendly at all. I wont be back. Better places deserve my business.
I have tried this restaurant a few times and compared to other soul food restaurants that I have tried Id have to say that its just OK.I have visited the store as well as ordered take out. The delivery service was incredibly slow and I had to reheat everything by the time it got to me. If I ordered from this restaurant again I would definitely walk in and pick up the order myself. The restaurant itself is small and not a sit down restaurant at all but if you chose to eat there the available seating can only accommodate about 2 people. So far I have tried their short ribs, fried seafood combo, sweet potato pie as well as their iced tea. The short ribs dish was severed generously and probably the best dish that I have had at this restaurant. It wasnt overly seasoned and cooked well. I had string bean and baked macaroni with my short ribs. I ordered this meal via the yelp app and had ordered collard greens originally but about 45 minutes later they called saying they ran out so I ordered string beans instead. So I never got the chance to taste their collard greens but the string beans were good. With that order I also tried there iced tea which tasted like it had 5 pounds of sugar in the one cup! No joke - I used their one serving to make a pitcher of normal tasting iced tea. That iced tea should definitely have a warning label for diabetics - seriously! On another occasion I walked in to order the fried seafood combo using a groupon I purchased. The meal I must say was very salty for my taste. It tasted as if they used a boxed fish fry mixture instead of their own and just added salt. Not sure if I will return to this restaurant again in the future but I wouldnt order the seafood combo again
The food is amazing. The employees just need to work on their customer service !!! “They’re rude as hell” it actually makes me not want to come to the restaurant but the other one is all the way in Jersey. Once again the only issue I have with the Bronx location is the rude women who work in there during the day preferably the chubby one who’s always working the register (the manager needs to have a talk with her about customer service because she has a nasty disposition)
I have been here several times and always pretty good service, except this last time. Two out of the three women working behind the counter had attitudes, just because you simply asked a question. They seem to be taking care of the outside orders faster than the line inside. They see you standing there but not even a be right with you, they just act as if you arent there. Also, before you take and order, be courteous and let the customer know you dont have cornbread, that comes with your dinner. Im paying full price for a meal that is missing a side. Why not offer to substitute the cornbread, that you ran out of. Not good service at all this last time. Very disappointed.
This place is excellent but it depends when you go its best to go during the daytime the light skin heavy set women that works the front i dont know if thats paula herself but she is fantastic!!!!!!! 10 thumbs up for her!!!!! My suggestin is dont go at night the other 2 young girls that work at night are rude disgusting to the customers what do you want! We dont do that here! and its definitely not worth the money at night and they always messing my orders up and when you call they never answer or get rude as if its my fault for getting my order messed up!! *SANDY*
The place is tiny you cant eat here. the service from the light skin heavy set lady with the short hair cut was atrocious!!! for a black owned resturant in a black neighborhood please do better! the macaroni was dry, the cabbage was over cooked and the sweet yams were toothe aching sweet! no half and half, no catfish, no whiting, no banana pudding in the middle of the day
This review is about their catering service - the HOT delivery was actually lukewarm and they gave me way less food than I actually ordered. I ran out less than halfway through the event. I definitely would warn anyone considering ordering catering from this restaurant.Giving three stars because of the people that got food, they said it was tasty (even though many commented that the food was not hot).I went into the store and ordered catering. The woman behind the counter was very helpful and friendly. No complaints there.I paid for HOT delivery to my event location. The driver was on time and very polite BUT the food was packed into regular cardboard boxes. I knew there was no way the food would still be hot after a 30 mins drive.I was right. The food was lukewarm.I had insulated hot boxes at the location so my waiters put the trays right in to try to keep what little heat the food had. And then the food was served from chafing dishes. If the company will offer hot delivery they really should invest in insulated food boxes in order to keep food at temperature during the drive. This is pretty standard in the industry. But the biggest disappointment was the quantity. About 1 hour into service my waiters told me that the food was almost gone! But all the guests hadnt arrived so that didnt make sense. The amounts in the trays that I was told in the restaurant were way off and they gave me way less food than was promised.I ordered trays based on the quantities the woman in the restaurant told me each tray contained. And then I actually added two more trays of everything so I could have a little extra.Thank goodness I had plenty of dessert so no one left totally hungry. But what a disappointment to close the buffet less than half way through the party. To the restaurant- please review your catering practice.
I really try to consistently support this business being black owned but the customer service is just horrible. The owner needs to have a serious conversation with the lady who consistently answers the phone. If you don’t want to be there then leave, but please show some form of respect to customers. It’s a shame because the food is actually good.
The food was terrible. My girlfriend and I shared a plate. We went in about 30 minutes before closing time to place the order. The food looked great however when we were eating it it was cold. The chicken had a very bland taste and while chewing it I felt like I was chewing on plastic, the Mac and cheese was severely over cooked and had a mushy taste to it, and we both ended up throwing up. I DON’t recommend this place.
I was on my way home waiting for the bus I knew I did not feel like cooking today. So I just googled soul food spots near me and Paula came up. The reviews were really good and it was just 2 mins from where I was. So I ask this lady who was waiting for the bus if she knew about Paula she said girl they food is so good. Before I taste my food I was very impressed at how wonderful their customer service was. There were two other people waiting ahead of me but they made sure the spoke to me. When I came in. The young lady who took my order was so professional. They made my food just like I ask. But when I got home and ate my food omg first of all I took the bus home and the food was still hot when I got home. Everything was so fresh the chicken was seasoned perfectly my Mac cheese was amazing and baby them yams perfect. I got some dessert too but I’m so full I will eat them tomorrow. Paula is hands down the best soul food I have tasted since I moved to Bronx. Keep up the amazing work. I will definitely be back for more!!!!!!!!
Im a bit surprised by these reviews. They must have been written by friends and family. I admit The staff is friendy and cordial. On the other hand the food is over priced and nasty. Chicken wings seasoned with Old Bay seasoning. Yuck. Over cooked cabbage. Flavorless potato salad. Salty fried fish. I can go on but out of respect for the employees I will stop. The redeeming dish is the banana pudding. It was good.
This is one of the Bronxs best kept secret! One of the best Soul food restaurants ive ever eaten at. The place is very clean, but small, they do have a eating section. Everything on the menu is very tasty and the portions are enough to fill you. I got the oxtail and it was so good!! Definitely going to stop in again.
I ordered food from this place . they did not add all of my items to my order . I immediately called them. I called 15 times plus the other 6 times my friend called . they had me on hold for 17 minutes and 49 seconds the first time and about 20 minutes the second time. Never again . Food was ok but the service is trash . who ever manages this place needs to do way better
I catered a post baptismal luncheon for the church: BBQ Chicken, yams, greens, stuffing, mac & cheese, red rice, potato salad...and I have to say, the food was EXCELLENT! Dont underestimate this place. the food taste was like down home southern food and seasoned to perfection. There were many compliments from the congregation ( so expect more customers to come your way!) The only snafu we encountered is with the delivery and ended up having to pick up the food ourselves. Although disappointed, we did what needed to be done with the help of our deacons. The staff at Paulas were apologetic and even took $ off off the final bill. All things considered, we will continue to make orders from Paulas because the quality/quantity of the food outweighs all else. My prayer is that they will be blessed with a dine-in restaurant, industrial size kitchen and a full blown catering business ...and maybe open a spot in Co-op City or close by; we need it :-) Thank you to the manager & staff at Paulas!
Super nice and friendly staff. Excellent customer service. Food is a wait but its worth it. Its obvious the locals love this place too. No dine in. Carry out and delivery via delivery services is what I noticed. Cornbread is on point. Mac and cheese is good. Big portions too.
Ive experienced mixed service at times, depending on whos providing the service. I happened to call in at 6:30 while theyre closing time is at 7 p.m. I was literally rushed during my telephone order. On two other instances there was straight rudeness. Three times and Im out!!!!! Its such a shame, food is pretty good and a thriving new business, but bad attitudes. I will not support a business who doesnt respect my patronage.
In town and googled restaurants. Found this little spot and was a bit skeptical at first because I was hungry and didn’t want to be disappointed by what east coast folks call soul food, since I’m from down south. Needless to say everything was yummy! My fav was the collard greens. I love that they made chicken and my fish fresh. I’ll come back to this place again if I’m ever in town.
Catered Thanksgiving meal because my building in Co-op City did not have gas due to a leak. Tray of oxtails, delicious! Collard greens tasted fantastic, only thing, they could have been cut smaller, but some family members liked them that way. Potato salad was delicious, could have used a little less mayonnaise, but tasted good. Candied yams delicious! Mac & cheese, awesome! I couldn’t have made them better myself! Overall, as a replacement meal, everything tasted home made, not like it was made by a massive machine making hundreds of pounds of food! Everything was delicious! Also, I recommended Paula’s to a friend for cousin’s repast yesterday, Fried Chicken wingettes were delicious! Turkey made lasagna, omg, the best!
Preordered my food over the phone, when i got there to pick my order the girl in the front acted as if i never called in the order. Had to retake my order and wait. Anyway, the fish n shrimp was good! Mac n cheese and collard greens needs some work! Oh and the fried chicken wings was kinda wack too! The place is small but clean! The younger girl has attitude but the other workers seem cool ! But hey maybe youll have a better experience......enjoy !Oh then shortly after i got home, they called me, to remind me they will closing soon (10pm) and to see if im still coming to pick up my order. I thought it was a JOKE but she was serious! After i explained to her what happened when i went to there to pick up my preordered food...... She said oh ok so youre good?!?
Ok I looooove Paula’s. I first found out about it through seamless because I order a lot and it came up as a new restaurant to order from. I order they’re turkey wing dinner and let me just say it was BOMB.The turkey was juicy and they’re generous with the side portions(I got Mac and cheese with yams) the yams were deliciously sweet just like my papa makes it. They staff is a little uppity like your taking up they’re time(just that one girl cashier) but hey it’s the New York the Bronx and people are like that. It’s a real right place that when you enter you get that soul music and good smells all around. They also offer lunch portions that still feel like a dinner just overall great experience every time for me
It was ok, Ive had better. The mac & cheese was cheesy but the noodles were a bit undercooked. The sweet potatoes were very good. The whiting fish could have been cooked a little longer, not very crispy, limp fish.It was an okay meal but not something I would make a special trip for.
I loveeeee their food. Cornbread is A1 and so is their collard greens. The prices are not too high. I have tried a few things off their menu. BBQ chicken was ok, salmon cakes tasted really yummy. I enjoyed the fried whiting and the macaroni salad. I wasn’t a fan of their Mac and cheese though. It’s a small restaurant with about 3 chairs mainly there to wait for your food to be prepared.
Ordered the fried chicken dinner with French fries and Mac and cheese. Fried chicken was disgusting. Tasted bland and the inside was rubbery. Mac and cheese was horrible. Did not taste like anything so bland and dry. Don’t get me started on the French fries. Cold and tasteless. Do these people use seasoning??. Also ordered the fried chicken dinner for my mom, her sides was collard green and rice and beans. She hated everything. Taste like a Mexican is doing the cookin. This is not how real soul food is supposed to taste. Smfh 🤦🏿♂️
Well the employees were rude. They gave me one scoop of rice, one scoop of cabbage and a piece of chicken .. all for $10.88. I asked how much after the change cause i thought it was a mistake and she rudely reiterated “$10.88”. So i looked on in disbelief and said for this little portion? Nothing. Politely walked out and the store will have never have my patronage again.
First i want to start with they offer the best banana pudding. Unfortunately for a soul place, its a gamble on which days its available. The potato salad is okay, although it is not originally the same person that preps it ;( There were times I odered the baked chicken & ribs that sit in the warmers and they were really tough as if it sat too long. My husband and I continue to support the restaurant in hopes that it would improve on consistency. Small minor changes to improve on.#supportblackowned #
Its a little small waiting area but the staff is very polite and accommodating. The food was wayyyyyy more than enough I had steamed tilapia, yams, mac and cheese, cornbread and for dessert a huge slice of carrot cake, my wife was at work and I didnt want her to miss out so I got her fried whiting, yams, collard greens, cornbread and banana pudding. This is not a place where they open cans you can taste the difference... This is real home cooked food. This was my first visit but will not be the last. Their menu is loaded, so many choices...what a great find you got to check them out....Orville T. Barrow
Great local soul food spot for me. Their proteins are delicious (the fried shrimp is my favorite) but I can dine on the sides alone. The collard greens and the okra...*mouth waters* are to die for! I always get a container of potato salad, because well, whats good soul food without good tato salad? Ive met the owner a few times and she is always courteous and makes sure to accommodate any requests you may have. You can order your meal and pick it up which is smart because parking on 233rd can be really tough and those parking ticket cops are always out there. Order early too, they start running out of all the good stuff especially on the weekends.
So i tried Paula soul food becaude Iwas in need of some really good potato salad and real soul food . Placed a order for a pickup for two bbq chicken orders (they give you a choice of two sides). My husband got collard greens and Mac & cheese. I got potato salad and yams. Paid $30 for both of the meals thats fine not a problem come home to find my order half complete with 3 small chickens and just yams no potato salad. I wouldnt of been mad if they had at least put in a different side and let me know when i got there they didnt have any but if im paying 13.95 for a meal come on! Ill give it another try because my husband really enjoyed it but i dont know if I try it again.
(NOW! )Since the experience shared below (5 months ago) Ive gone back twice to give another chance and it appears theyve taken into consideration the feedback not from myself per say but Ive had gr8 experiences both time. Im only keeping the older content to show the growth and that businesses/ people can change for the better. For that I changedfrom 3 to 5 stars. Continue to do well and may God bless youand your continued success!(THEN) Try to support the small business in the community but apparently they take the phone off the hook. If there was an option to order online for Pickup and not just delivery I wouldnt have to call. At least that ensure my orderwould be made more accurately. But hope mgmt is assessing all of the constuctive feedback to grow the business. All the best. Stay blessed
The food was old or something because a funky sell emitted from it. I could barely finish it. The mac and cheese was cold and not seasoned well... something was off. The fish smelled old. Colkard greens had a stale smell and was cold. The cornbread had no flavor. Terrible
Been a loyal customer and even recommend people here. This morning I went to the store to get lunch for me and my boss and the Male chef who was there a Dark skin older man had the nastiest attitude. He wanted to give me barbecue chicken with no barbecue sauce on it and when I questioned him about it thats when he wanted to be nasty, so I left and bought something else.
All my reviews are from an food allergy sufferer:I found out about Paulas when I received a menu on my door step. The food options for me near my church was slim to none due to my food allergies. So when I found out that it is near my church I was extastic. They have steam fish and vegetables options. There are not many vegetables to chose from but the have other sides for an extra cost. The young lady at the counter never mention that it would cost extra. The young lady at the counter is not as friendly as she could be. The food is good but they do grench they food in butter. So make sure to tell them not to use butter if you cant handle dairy.I am limited to just fish and two vegetables. I wish you can choose more than just two.
I purchased my third Groupon for a seafood dinner for two and called Paulas to see if this would be available this week. I was told it was available every day (Mon. thru Thurs.) as stated on the Groupon. I called last evening to confirm I could place this order today and was told to call at 11am when they open so that the lobster tails could be defrosted. I called at 11am and was told they no longer offer this seafood dinner and I could go to the NJ location for it. What? I have had the seafood dinnner from this location twice before; the woman who answered the phone last evening told me it would be available. So I will get a refund from Groupon and will never ever go to Paulas again. Too bad, since this was a delicious dinner.
Delivery guy took over an hour to arrive, and when they delivered they messed up my order and didnt bring my friends order. They were not answering any phone calls when we called, and when we arrived to file a complaint, they were very rude and disrespectful the very moment we arrived while we were polite. The people were judgmental and refused to take responsibility for the messed up order. Never ever ever going to this place again. Never again......horrible customer service.
Customer service is horrible. Save your time and save your money. One would think during a pandemic they would appreciate customers coming into their establishment to support them. But after my experience, even though I live in the community, I won’t be going back and will always redirect people from going there.
Hackensack staff was nice, but the ftied chicken is cooked with too much garlic, n that isnt Southern fried chicken# Also the greens they taste like it came in a plastic bags, didnt cut the stems off n threw in a piece of turkey for taste! If yr going to be called Southern Soul Food, then cook it like that#
The oxtail was terrible. I couldnt even finish it. You should probably take it off the menu. The mac and cheese tasted like cheese mush because the macaroni was overcooked. I got the food for next to nothing with a groupon and was still disappointed. Im confused by these ratings.
My brother said the food here is sooooo good. So I catered a little greens for Christmas time. They were not tasty at all, very bitter. My mother who is a greens connoisseur said oh noooo, those are bagged greens, greens from the bag like Glory or something, not no fresh greens, I can tell just by looking at the big leafs and stems! Now my mothers greens is good good good!!! Thank god we had some of hers for Christmas. Hers need to be sold there but her name is not Paula, hahahah But anyway, I will try the other foods at Paulas like the macaroni and cheese and stuff because it does look good though. I mean, you cant win em all, everything cant be fabulous all the time I guess?????
I seen someone post on Facebook how good the food was here and I was highly dissatisfied with my purchase yams were not good more cinnamon than anything else, Mac and cheese was mush all I could taste was pepper, collards had no flavor even with the smoked turkey in them and, wings were just ok...... cornbread was burnt picked off the top and still had a bad taste maybe I caught them on a bad day but I’m not willing to spend more money to find out
Today I ordered food for delivery when I received the food it was slop I called back to try to rectify the situation the person who answered told me that I would get a refund back for the food and that I would receive a phone call back no phone call back called the location back like 10 times either they’re not answering or keep putting me on hold never returning back to the phone over the course of Paula’s being open the service has dropped tremendously the food quality is horrible the employees there are rude as hell like this is a pandemic that we are dealing with no one has money to waste I could’ve brought Chinese food and would have been happier and cheaper.and then people wonder why black businesses don’t get any support because they don’t know how to run a proper business. They’re service is horrible the food is not worth buying and overall they will not get by business ever again
Called for Delivery wuz placed on hold for 10 mins. Had to hang up after 10 mins. & call back to place the order. When the receptionist or petson taking the order finally did come to the fone after being placed on hold for a second time for 5 mins. The Female was Rude and very disrespectful. Im very big on Customer Service and because of her Very Poor Customer Service I opt not to place the order.
Ordered ribs with mac and cheese, yams and corn and fried shrimp dinner with mac and cheese and collards for my daughter... mac and cheese looks and taste like boxed mac and cheese with Velveeta... corn tasted bad and flavorless at that... collard greens tasted fishy... and shrimp had a strong bad fishy odor... I also ordered a turkey wing dinner for my husband havent tasted it yet but turkey wings looked weird... corn bread and yams were good though...
I have ordered turkey and green it took a little while so I went to the restaurant and this handsome young man told me he will take care of me and he did he gave mi my orders for free I asked him how much he said it on me I was shocked thats the place you want to order from they stand behind their restaurant thank you again light skin the food is delicious see you soon
Went there August 24 for my birthday the food is good but the collard greens needed to be cooked a little longer big hard stems the yams where ok chicken was good and the cornbread good just the greens to hard you cant mess up greens just let it cook and not taking time to cut the greens down big leafygreens but will go back
Im a real southerner and been searching for authentic southern style good since I came up here in November of 2014. Amy Ruths in Harlem was close, and I mean really close. But Paulas definitely hit the spot and won for me. Not many places up here sell banana pudding, Magnolia Bakery does, but its not really home/southern style, last week I had it at Paulas and had a OMG moment. Definitely a place you need to try if youre anywhere in NYC/Mount Vernon/Yonkers! About to go grab some food from them now.

2021-05-13For a 15 minute wait, I got all of this! Parking is difficult in the area. You may want to call your order in ahead or bring a party sit in the car. The wings in the shrimp wing combo were small, but the shrimps are big. The food is seasoned lightly for all taste levels.

2022-06-15Very friendly place the cashier was nice n pleasant downside its very small an u cant dine in to bad because they would have a lot of customers, shout to timothy mcgray an curly for their cooking skills. One more thing the prices are very reasonable u do get portion of food for your money.

2020-04-16I had to take the time to review them. This is by far THE BEST soul food that I have tasted from a restaurant in the Bronx. I’m originally not from NYC so tasting food that gets southern dishes right not only warms my heart but makes me feel a sense of home! Thank you for my amazing meal of: buffalo wings , candied yams and Mac and cheese (2x). The only reason that I did not give them a 5 star rating is because I ordered through UberEats so I’m saving that last star for when I can have the experience of the restaurant in person. They will def get my business

2018-09-17I have been to this spot twice. Excellent soul food, some of the best I have ever eaten from an outside establishment. Its basically a take put spot, with limited seats, maybe 3-4. The Whiting Fish, Beef Ribs, Turkey Wings, Teryaki Salmon are all excellent choices. The Yams, Mac & Cheese are delicious. Service could be better though. Cashier seemed like she had an attitude problem, as if she didnt want to be there. The only real downfall, they didnt have everything available on the menu. I would highly suggest updating the menu if you are not going to have everything on it. For example, besides a few other items as well, it is false advertisement to have only 4 desserts but have 12 on the menu.

2022-05-23I gave this place two stars, because the staff are polite and friendly. Otherwise the restaurant would get no stars at all. The worst soul food Ive ever had.

2016-10-23This small shop is churning out some great classic eats. The catfish, turkey wings, Greens and macaroni with cheese hit the nail right on the head. The spirit in their open kitchen is the epitome of soul. That translate well in to the food with modest portions. The average plate will run you about $14.00 but it will become very clear that it is worth it after your first few bites. Dont expect to eat in as the eating/order area is about 6 by 5 so get it to go. Well I just finished my meal and I think I will take a short power nap.
