There isnt a ton of incline which I prefer and the tree roots make your feet a bit unhappy but its a peaceful walk. Nice scenery of the mohawk and the falls. Youre sure to spot a kind deer or 5. I like the trail and would recommend for a quick morning or evening hike for those nearby.
An absolute hidden gem and jewel at the confluence of the Hudson and Mohawk Rivers. Keep an eye out for uninterpreted outlines of Rev. War redoubts in the woods as you take in the parameter trail. Perfect for kids but just be careful on some sections where there are steep cliffs. The birding cant be beat. The visitor center has intermittent hours but is generally open during the spring and summer. Clean restrooms is a hallmark of NY State Parks. This facility is no exception. Usually there is ample, free parking.
As always a very nice way to spend an afternoon. We found some great surprises in the form of inspirational hand painted rocks strategically placed throughout! The water is running nicely this time of the year to make the falls especially pretty. Keep your eyes open for deer and other wildlife, we saw an amazing mature male bald eagle in flight during our visit...breath taking!
Took my kids this time and did the perimeter trail walk. We had fun. Moderately busy, probably came across someone else on the trail every 5 minutes or so. Beautiful. The leaves covering the trail made it a little tricky to see some of the foot holds so my advice is take your time and wear good shoes. Its worth it though.
I loved walking this park. The leaves are changing for fall. The views were beautiful and the trees are old. You get to see water, land and history all in one place. They have picnic tables and benches along the paths. I love the tree with amazing roots. ❤️ Worth the walk..
Such a beautiful gem right in the heart of Cohoes! We saw so many deer and many other forms of wildlife too! Only downfall are the people who bring their non-behaved dogs that bark at everyone and any other dogs. Most of the dogs on the trails were fine but theres always a few hyper ones.
Nice place to walk or have a picnic. Little one should be kept close. To many places to get injured or worse... Locks, falls, cliffs and quickly moving water pose a danger for younger children and those who are not paying attention to their surroundings.I often go there to take pictures. Sunsets are nice. There is plenty of wildlife with deer, rabbits, owls, eagles and just about everything in between. There are picnic tables, grills, water fountains, restrooms and a information center.
Getting into the parking lot is a little confusing, but otherwise a pleasant experience. The trails are maintained and generally wide enough for 2-4 people wide. A great place to merge history and nature together into a pleasant hike or run. Carry in/carry out policy with the exception of dog cleanup stations at pavilion and trailhead. For an added experience you can kayak in/out vice drive. Also includes footbridges to surrounding islands for additional views/exploration. Trails are easily marked, and young kid friendly.
Beautiful walk. Easy too. You do not have to be an experienced hiker to do this place! I love the waterfall in the middle of the walk! I even saw a deer today!! The hike was a little steep in some places so just be careful walking on the edge. But I give it 20/10 ! Please come and go on this walk! You will not be disappointed!!!
Peebles is one of my most favorite Capital District stomping grounds. Its peaceful and quiet, and an easy trail to take people of all ages! Its a gem that offers beautiful views, and a sanctuary for the diverse wildlife I end up seeing every time Im there! My dog especially loves that aspect. If I need a respite after work, I know I can always count on Peebles for an enjoyable and relaxing experience!
The trail was great. Not too long that it wouldn’t be a relaxing experience. Not too short either. The perimeter trail essentially takes you along the Mohawk river, the view is great. I think you even get to see where its originating from the Hudson. You do see deers in the deer trail. So, all good!Great place to spend the afternoon.
Cold damp and muddy, good day forbade hike. The perimeter trail was closed in a couple spots due to standingwater and mud, but theres plenty of ways around those spots. Be a nice place for a family hike. Definitely fo some research. Theres earthworks from the US army during the revolutionary War, and a couple eagle nests.
Peebles Island is a great walk in the woods. And along the Mohawk and Hudson Rivers. It offers great views at every step. Offer a distant but unobstructed view of an Eagles nest on the far shore. This is the pair...one was hunting for food up River and around the bend.
I love to bring the kids here to see the deer that inhabit this island in the middle of the Mohawk and Hudson Rivers intersection through Waterford and Cohoes. There are miles of walking trails throughout the island, all well maintained during all seasons. The deer here are very used to the human visitors to the island, and can be seen easily during the early evening hours and just post dawn hours. They seem to like to eat and walk durning these times. I have been to this island to see these events for the past decade and love the connection to nature you can cultivate here.
Im being petty only giving 4 stars. I loved it, they had plenty of seating available it was clean and just beautiful. The reason for 4 stars is my precious dad who was surprising my mother with a picnic had to hike all his stuff down (he just had a stroke and went through chemo) the parking layout was alittle awkward for us navigating all of that. But highly recommend ! During the summer you can go to a boat launch they rent kayaks!
This is a great place to hike and see some great views of the Mohawk River only 20 minutes from albany. The perimeter trail is a must-see. Its a little less than 2 miles all the way around but youre treated to beautiful vistas of the river, dam, and waterfall. The trail is pretty flat and well maintained. You see some beautiful deer and there is even remnants of encampments by revolutionary war soldiers. Theres something here for everyone. This is a great place to walk your dog aswell.
Solid hiking/walking park! Super cool terrain overlooking Hudson/Mohawk river confluence. Very beautiful, perfect for people of all abilities. Always plenty of wildlife including deer, various birds species, turkeys, garter snake, bald eagle, osprey, herons, mallards and geese. Very cool, a common place for us to come stretch out our legs!
Great little park on an island with a 2 mile perimeter trail and several interior trails. All of the island is wilderness other than the parking lot and nearby old factory buildings. Several deer permanently reside on the island, and there are bald eagles nearby. Great views of the river in many directions, nice trees, picnic areas, pavilion, etc. Restrooms closed except in summer. Admission fee is charged only on summer weekends. Enjoyable for all ages and very close to Troy. Sometimes a touch crowded, but not bad.
A really beautiful and underrated place in Troy. There are lots of birds you can see. It is a quiet place. The scenery is great. It has a nice trail to walk along. This is as good as any other state park. It is remarkably clean considering it to be in close proximity to a metropolitan area. One can come here by bus or bike from RPI. Visiting it in spring is a great idea. However, I look forward to visiting it again later this year to see the fall colors. There are a couple of good restaurants in the vicinity of the state park.
Such a well maintained park, the people who work there are lovely and knowledgeable about the parks history. Amazing for bird watching, they have nesting bald eagles in the park. The Cohoes falls are just up the river so its a lovely drive through town from one to the other.

2021-07-05I would have to say this place is a hidden gem. I went here for the 1st time and walked the trail around the island. It was absolutely a wonderful peaceful walk. The wildlife and landscape you get to see is beautiful. The views from different places on the trail are wonderful. The only thing I would have to say is if you bring little ones with you keep them close to you. Some of the trail gets close to a drop off edge in some places. Very well taken care of from what I seen. I did not see any trash around on the trail I took. I took the 2 mile around the island trail. I would say this is a great place to go for a walk with a camera for sure.

2021-07-26Very nice little park. The point that over looks the falls is particulary relaxing and at least 10° cooler than the surrounding area. And due to the elevation it often has a nice breeze blowing through the area. The deer run trail is the shortest path to it.

2022-03-06Very beautiful and peaceful. Bring bug spray! Can see deer and have picnics or play a sport in the open field. During the winter is a very cool sight to see.

2021-07-30I parked at the visitor center and walked over the bridge to get there. The trail is easy with lots of wildlife and cliff over water views. Bugs were bad so wear spray. It would be a great place to fish. You can rent kayaks and bikes along the canal.

2022-03-20My sons favorite hike! Cool place any season tho of course can get muddy in spring and icy in winter with cliffs off to the river. Always wildlife to observe near/on water. Reasonable amount of parking. Loops with shortcut options.
