I usually order online, but my friend suggested we visit the store. When you own the door, there is a wonderful smell of spices! In store you get to open a scent jar and experience the spices. Wonderful idea!
Was ok until found out the email promos included politics written by a 3rd grader. Not needed, I was just looking to cook and talk food! Other places to order that will give me say, extra recipes instead of politics.
So glad they are back open for curbside pickup! I was out of a few things and looked on the website to see about online ordering. Fortunately, the Buffalo store is open for orders. I submitted the form with my contact information, and got a call back within a few hours from one of the super nice store staff to take my order and payment. The transaction and pickup went great - they have a little stand right inside the outer door to the store where they put peoples orders, all sealed and labeled with names. Im glad they are open and safely spicing up my life once again!
My first visit to a Penzeys store was in Buffalo. While it is a small store the staff could not have been more helpful. We left with spices, many bonuses and a good feeling about our experience. Have only ordered by phone before and while that is good this was great! Wish there were a closer store to us. Oh well. Fun time. Thank you staff!!
Walking in the door of the shop is an experience in itself. The smell of the spices wakes up your senses, and you cant help but smile. It is such a pleasant experience, reminds me of holidays years ago, when everyone baked. Then it is laid out well, with like items together, and the staff is so friendly and helpful. Everything is fresh, and reasonably priced. You get out of your cooking, the quality you put in. You will pay more at the grocery store than you will here. Buy it by the bag, and put it in your own containers. Recipes are set out at each display, and I guarantee you will go home with more than you came for. Enjoy!
As always, Penzeys Spices delivers a fantastic experience. Staff here were friendly and helpful, applying as many coupons as they could for freebies with our purchase (Penzeys always, always has great coupons!). Wonderful selection and wonderful spices.
Watch out for the older woman with dark hair (this might be the manager) if you have a coupon for a free item. When I was there (over the summer), she had a meltdown and was growling at people for coming in to get their free spices. Even if people were buying items, if you had the coupon: BEWARE.There are several other workers who are very knowledgeable and helpful. They are kind and willing to assist you, offer you the free items (with your purchase and coupon), and sometimes even add an extra gift.Overall, Penzeys has excellent spices and the price is reasonable (for the quality you get).
Great spices. Staff told us where to find everything on our list. We go here on each trip to Buffalo. They closed NC stores.
I am not a big spice person. I like flavorful food, but cant cook without a recipe. Usually when I need spices I get the $1 jars. Penzeys spices are not dollar store price but they are reasonable. And the quality blows dollar store versions out of the kitchen. If you need spices you have to try Penzeys. If you cant get to a retail store then go online.
Im so glad I discovered this place! Fresh spices make such a difference. Try the Vietnamese Cinnamon...its amazing! The staff is helpful, friendly, and really know their spices and recipes! If you love to cook,you will love Penzeys!
Great store, helpful staff.As an experienced cook I never thought Id buy pre-made spice blends, but some of theirs are just great. Id suggest Northwoods or Arizona Dreaming to start.If you sign up for their emails they will also send some wonderful coupons for free spices and other great on line or in store deals,

I was so thrilled to get on line today and find that there is a Penzeys in Buffalo! I moved here a few months ago, and realized that I must have several things in order to enjoy my own cooking. I have used their spices for over a decade, and find that there is a huge difference from what you can find in the stores. I tend to prefer the single spices over the blends, but the blends have also helped me learn different cuisines from around the world. I cant wait to go over tomorrow and replenish my chicken and veggie soup bases.
Delicious smelling spices at surprisingly reasonable prices. Occasional sales make this an excellent place to shop for gifts and any cooking needs. Try not to spend all of your money.

Safe efficient checkout. They had my order right at the door with my name on it. I didnt even have to go into the store. Staff is very friendly and coordinated a specific time for me to pick up the order
Staff helpful, they had a spice giveaway. Fox point 2oz. Very good. Sunny Paris even better and tried the Vietnamese cinnamon so far not sure if it is as strong as they say that it is. I tried the cinnamon and dont think its that strong. I think its just okay.
Always an adventure in taste. High quality ingredients and unique spice and seasoning blends done in house. We always make a point to stop here and stock up on trips to buffalo: sumac and various oreganos and bbq rubs and cinnamons - and the chiles - so much better and fresher than supermarkets
Nice service, great product. I love all of their spices and herbs but especially the Spanish paprika. Its not expensive especially if you buy the packets and put it in your own containers at home.
You can get spices here that Boone else in town carries. Today I got found ancho chile and file for my seafood gumbo later this week. Not cheap but worth it for the quality and selection.
I love to cook and experiment with food. PENZEYS allows me to do that in so many way. Good spices and premixed ones are great easy. We LOVE Forward on air fryer potatos. Quebec is great on steaks and salmon!

I gave 2 stars because I like Penzys products. I was very disappointed when I got home and took a closer look at my gift set. Included was a political message. I dont understand why some businesses find it appropriate to force their political views on their customers? Just stick to selling spices please.
I got my catalog and started reading the Note From Bill about Giving thanks.Sadly, it was a political opinion, really not so political as just plain hateful.Bill needs to understand that there are good and bad people in every race and nation, none are perfect, not even Bill. Spices are great but their hours are ridiculous. Basically if you have a full time day job its near impossible to go there. 10am -6pm.... and those are their holiday hours! What a joke.
Penzeys political statements made it clear that they do not want the business of anyone who voted Republican in the election. I was appalled by the companys bigoted and intolerant remarks to fellow Americans exercising their right to vote. The CEO says that all who voted Republican are racists. Unbelievable. Regardless of party affiliation, I wont be purchasing from this company any longer. I am tired of the hate and cant support someone who perpetuates it.

Very good quality spices even no sodium spices and the help is very well in formed of the products thay sell. The only problem no falt of theirs is the parking at times. Otherwise thay are worth it when your on a low sodium diet

2022-06-11Love this place. They have the best spices around. We have been ordering them either online and paying for shipping or having a relative grab our orders when they come to visit, so this was our first trip to the shop. Super cute and full of great stuff!

2021-03-15Wonderful spice store! I found this company because I needed some of their jars for a school project. I am so happy that I was introduced to the wonderful, high end products and inclusive and kind culture that the owner cultivates. The products are a little more expensive than other spice brands but with the discounts it ends up being pretty close in the end. I will say the spices are much better quality than what you get in the grocery store. And they have wonderful custom spice blends which make cooking easy and more fun. There are also premade boxes which have made wonderful and unique gifts for other cooks in my life.This store is still curbside shopping only. You will need to place an order online and choose in store pick up. Once your order is ready you will receive a phone call and arrange a time you are able to pick up. Your order will be placed inside the front door. They are not accepting orders over the phone right now so just go right to the online store. I wasn’t aware of this when I went last week but I was lucky that my order was ready in about an hour and I was able to grab after I finished my other errands.Sign up for their emails and you will get discounts and some free spices. I have come across and tried many new things this way. The emails are written by the owner, Bill, who is always optimistic and wishes the best for humanity as a whole. His words are always a highlight and offer a new outlook on some hard days this past year.Some of my favorites are chicken taco blend, bold taco blend, sunny paris, lemon pepper, fox point, chicken soup base, granulated garlic and the list goes on! Don’t think you can go wrong here.

My last visit, they took my online order, sent it to the local store, who gathered up my order for me, bagged it, called me to ask when I could pick it up, and had my spices bagged and labeled and waiting at the front door.I was able to open the door, grab my order and go, that quickly. Their fresh and varied spices and blends are the best out there. If you love to cook and care about the quality of your ingredients, youll love Penneys Spices. The pandemic is making it tough to pop in and browse and sniff the sample canisters to get a sense of what each spice or blend smells like, so I suggest you start with their sample packets to test their products before committing to larger bottles of their spices. Their cinnamon selection will make you swoon!

2019-11-20Penzeys helps me eat healthier - I hadnt realized how much high-quality spices would improve my cooking and the flavor of my meal, which I would formerly cover with more salt or sugar.You can smell every spice from a sample jar, and there are multiple sizes to choose from, and its easy to pop-in for one thing, or stay for a longer visit. Its an enjoyable shopping experience.

2020-02-08High quality spices and a huge variety! Be sure to sign up for emails for free spices (almost weekly!). The salespeople in the store were friendly and helpful. I’ve always shopped online with Penzeys and (gasp!) had no idea there was one in Buffalo. You’ll get better spices at a better price than any grocery store. Plus the company stands up for its beliefs. I’m a customer for life!

2018-08-26There is no other place from which I will purchase spices, but Penzeys on Elmwood. Their selection is absolutely incredible. I also love receiving the specials via e-mail. A couple of months ago, all I had to do was walk through the front door and ask for the special at that time, which totaled just under $40. There are never any catches and the customer service is great too. I love the mug I received for free last year (and now I have to make myself a cup of Joe). My compliments to Bill and the gang at the Elmwood store for making my meals inspirational and full of flavor from the spices I buy at Penzeys. Personally, I am quite the critic when it comes to what will make my gastronomy a bit better. Penzeys gets my approval as the best establishment for customer recognition via the deals and of course the spices from all over the world. You have certainly outdone yourself with customer satisfaction. Kudos to all for making my visits always memorable and positive.
