Carl was very helpful. I drove to this location on a pop tire. It said I will reach there in 9 mins (which would of been before closing hours) but it took me 20 mins to reach the location due to the condition of the tire. I reached the location 7 mins before closing & carl was so NICE! He stayed open so I can get the tire fixed! I appreciate him for that
Got a brake light done. Didnt know they closed the retail,,,,,9 months ago!!!! The clerk is overwelmwd with phone calls and taking care of the few customers (3) that were there. I actually felt bad for him. Got the job done but heard too many rumblings from customers waiting and on the phone calls that makes me think twice about going back. Looks like its on its last breathe. Sad.
Had a great experience. Although Carl had to reschedule me one day due to expected reasons, he was able to offer me a discount. Tom was very accommodating during my next visit. The service was quick and painless, the service tech was pleasant. And I even opened up a Pep Boys credit card 😃 thanks all
The store is undergoing a bit of a renovation but the auto service section is stil running.Carl and his team of mechanics are great! They take good care of you and your car. They offer the kind of service that makes a customer want to come back to time and time again.Prices are fair and the repairs are quick. Carl is very friendly and very communivative.
Carl at Pep boys in smith town was absolutely amazing!!! He was so nice and so understanding of the importance of fixing our car for our new high school student driver. He went above and beyond to make sure everything was safe and done correctly. We will come back here again and again! Thank you!
My husband and I, along with our five children, are loyal customers at Pep Boys in Lake Grove, NY. I cannot say enough about Carl who is so friendly and professional. He, as well as Tommy, take care of us and our cars with accurate diagnostics, time frames, and fair prices. We trust their advice when we service our vehicles which very important to us!
10/10 would recommend this Pep Boys location. My car ended up needing a lot of work but Tommy took the time out to explain everything to me and helped me understand what they would be doing. Tommy was also honest about what needed to be done now and what could wait. If you need anything done with your Tires/Brakes/Rotors/Alignment etc, go see Tommy at the Lake Grove Pep Boys. You wont be disappointed!!!
Let me tell you....my experience yesterday with pep boys Smithtown was just amazing. Carl who is the manager is truly an amazing guy. He is super friendly, very accommodating and does whatever needs to be done to keep his customers happy. Carl is a tremendous asset to this location!!!
Tommy is the best thing that Pep Boys in Lake Grove has! He is very professional, honest, and trust worthy. He tells customers the truth and explains what the car issue or final outcome is patiently. You should go here because of Tommy! It’s worth the customer service experience and more!
Called at 6:00 PM in need of a headlight replacement. Tom said he couldnt guarantee Id get in and I said no problem. He called back 5 minutes later and said I should try. Im 20 minutes away. They take me in at 6:35. One mechanic stayed late to help me out.Who does that anymore?
Pleaseeee readdddd!! Terrible service! I took my car there to check out the ac, which was blowing warm air. The mechanic could not open the hood, my husband came toOpen the hood for him because we were surprised he couldn’t open it, when it was working the entire time. We went inside the mechanic job and the mechanic had removed that entire piece completely and had trouble putting it back, when we asked him to, may I also note that we did not tell him to remove any pieces nor was he suppose too. Anyways he put it back sloppy and that piece that was working did not work anymore. Do not go there, pay extra and go somewhere else. Broke the side piece that opens the hood to my car. The hood was working before and it won’t open up now and they claim it was already broken. Been waiting for a replacement piece for weeks!
All of the pep boys i have been to are severely under stocked with supplies. No one ever asks if they can help you when your walking around the store and customer service is at a zero at best. They use to be a great go to no matter what you were looking for, now they all need to be cleaned up good and get employees who actually want to be a contribution to the company instead just hanging out collecting a check.
The place seems dark and old. The remodeled the place a few years ago putting more of the products behind the counter. When I went in the other day I found out that they would just sold off to a new company. The employees seem stressed and not trained in the new systems which delayed being rung out. The employees themselves seemed helpful to their abilities and pleasant. The store needs a remodel. I much prefer going to AutoZone. They have a better presentation bright stores well stocked. If pep boys or whoever company is coming in to replace them wants to be able to compete they really need to look to their competition.
When you order tires and do their free installation, if you wait, be prepared to watch the garage people take smoke breaks every 10 minutes and talk on the phone until theyre ready to work on your car. Once your car is up, dont get excited because it will take 2.5 hours for them to put 4 tires on when Walmart does it in under an hour. Then youll wait another 15-20 minutes until the guy at the desk is ready to give you your keys, honestly get your tires here and get walmart to put them on.
So I have a decently long history with this place that led to this review. I took it here in august/September for an oil change for my gti. Nothing fancy right? So I notice it leaking oil a couple weeks later when I’m about to sell my car. I take it back to pep boys and tell them it’s leaking oil and they say that they can’t help me because it’s coming from the turbo and I need to take it to the dealer. So I didn’t want to deal with the hassle, traded it in for my mustang, just to find out that the person who changed the oil overtorqued the filter which crushed the gasket. Okay whatever. So about a month ago, I take my mustang there to get the oil changed and a week later, I notice an OIL LEAK. I was running low on oil so I take my car back there and explain the situation. They tell me that they can’t even take 10 minutes to top off my oil because they don’t have an extra technician and needless to say they won’t even look at the car to diagnose it. So I fill my own oil and drive my car basically across the street to Firestone where they took my car in on a moments notice and was at least able to tell me it was coming from my filter and they could fix it first thing tomorrow (hint hint, that’s customer service) so I drop my car off there and they tell me SURPRISE SURPRISE, they overtorqued the filter which crushed the gasket! Moral of the story: Awful customer service and if they can’t even change oil and do it correctly and check your car afterwards, I wouldn’t trust them to work on a more serious problem or something like the brakes or a critical component.
Quick services. Employees are friendly. Great prices. Clean store. Oil changes are done right and with care. Thanks Jared and Vince, you guys are great. If you have to choose any pep boys around the area, go to the Lake Grove one...NOT the Commack one.The Commack pep boys has screwed me over more times than I can count. I reached out to corporate customer service and nothing was done to rectify the issues at that time (2019 & 2020). However, as of January 2021, Pep Boys as a whole is under new corporate ownership so I hope customer service will be better (if you need to reach out to them).TLDR: Lake Grove Pep boys is great. Commack Pep Boys is beyond subpar.
I visited the store on 8/16 and scheduled an apt for 8PM. As soon as I walked in, the service manager greeted me immediately and was very friendly and funny! It was for a simple oil change and was hoping it wouldnt take too long. I decided to stay and walked around the store for a bit. All of the sales/parts associates constantly asked if I needed assistance and were immediately there if I had any questions. The store was under some construction but still a great variety of products. An hour and a half passed by as I was disappointed to see my car was not being worked on until 9PM. To my surprise before I even got frustrated, the service manager, who I dont remember the name of, told me that my oil change was free!! I was shocked and very happy to see that they understood there was a problem before it was brought up. Although the whole process took an hour and a half, the manager made it right which I appreciate. Thank you Pep Boys!
These guys are awesome! Ive gotten my car serviced here multiple times and i rarely left with a complaint. Yes if you walk-in during the middle of the day you are going to have to wait. No, if you have an appointment that doesnt mean the tech is going to wait for you all day. They do quality work, they stand by it and they always look to give the best deal. What more could you ask for?
Service was okay. Was out of a car for 3 days waiting on a part. Im understanding of that. The one thing I took a star off for was that they could have showed better service by at least topping of my windshield washer fluid. Cmon that would be courteous and demonstrate basic customer service.
I went in to get new tires and an oil change, but they ended up discovering several other issues that needed to be addressed. Even though my bill ended up being vastly higher than I anticipated, the staff (especially the manager Joe) were respectful, courteous and did everything they could to make my final cost more reasonable. Ive been here for other work before, so I can speak to the quality of their work, but the professionalism and courteousness of the staff will keep me coming back.
Its for some reason hard to find a mechanic on Long Island whom you can trust. Been to several other shops, including two other Pep Boys, theyd always try to make me fix stuff that neednt be fixed. These guys at Lake Grove do a great job, and I keep coming back. Front desk staff are respectful, patient, and explain things well. The mechanics seem to know what theyre doing, never had any complaints.
Poor quality of service and quality has deteriorated recently. Recently I have requested oil change and to change one of the brake light. When I went to pickup after 5 hours, they didnt change brake light. Then one technician tried to change brake light but was unsuccessful. When I asked why service reminder light was not reset, technician said we couldnt figured it out. They told me that they have checked all fluids level and was OK but next day my car alarmed with low brake fluid!
My daughter said “Mom, part of my car is hanging off!” Disturbing to any parent! We called and they said bring it in right away. Tom at the desk was wonderful and attentive! Turned out to be missing clips on the undercarriage! Thank God! They took care of it fast and inexpensive! Awesome experience! Especially on a Sunday so our week is not altered! A great big thank you!
On 12.10. 2019 I brought my wifes car into the Lake Grove Pep Boys to have a power steering hose replaced. That was indeed morning left car all day did not hear from Pep Boys that day they closed at 9 pm. Call the following morning at 10am to find out what was going on with the car they had not gotten to it and would get to it in an hour. 3 hours went by did not hear anything called them up they told me they had not gotten to the car and would not get to it they were short-handed. What great communication, I think that will be the last time. This is not the only time they have not communicated with me, I have had issues with them before. Also the store is very dirty and disorganized needs new management at this location!
Terrible experience. I went there for a simple plug as my tire had a slow leak. They told me no problem plugged it and sent me on my way. One hour later tire is flat again. Now i go back and guy is telling me how he explained to me how there was 3 holes and i needed a new tire (never happened). They gave me,a cash refund when i paid with a card (somewhat sketchy ) and sent me on my way. While all this was happening there were 2 other customers complaining about something else which i didnt full hear what it was about. Lazy and unprofessional workers here i would recommend you avoidEdit: i took it to firestone across the street and was told the plug ruined my tire and at this point i would in fact need a new tire.So all in all pep boys wasted me close to 200 dollars with there lazy unprofessional staff.
The store really sucks. After waiting there for 2 1/2 hours in the store in smithown for 1 New tire to put on my car. I was told they can not do it. I will never go back there or any pep boys again. I found out they change you a fee for any parts or tires you buy from them in the store. And have do the work for you. Nice way to screw the customer. You will have to go back over 5 times to get the job done the right way. I work to hard for my money.
Scammed me! I recently got my rotors changed from them. Three months later, when I went back to get my tires balanced, they switched my rotors with old rusty ones. It does not take more than half an hour to get the tires balanced. it took them more than two hours... it is ridiculous. TERRIBLE service!!!Also, they keep trying to tell us to fix things that need not be fixed.
If I could rate them no stars I would. I waited over an hour today to have an inspection and 2 tires looked at on my 33 year old car, so it only needs a safety inspection. Never had the work done. Then only mechanic who could do it was over an hour late for work. I had a 9am appointment. At 10:15 I walked out. This is the second time this has happened to me at this shop. There wont be a third. Never going back. Also fix your state fire code violations and unlock the emergency exit door.
I had my daughters car towed here on a Tuesday morning because they told me that they would be able to look at it and fix it. I called Tuesday night, they didnt get to it. I called Wednesday afternoon and they said they didnt get to it and were short staffed all week. I didnt want to pay to have it towed to my mechanic and asked if they could tow it to my mechanic at their expense because had they been honest with me that they were short staffed all week, I would have brought it to my mechanic. The manager was nasty with me, so I called corporate and they filed a complaint. I paid to have the car towed to my mechanic because I had no choice. I was really upset that the manager was nasty to me too. He held up a list of things wrong with her car. My mechanic popped a belt on and it started.. They are liars. Finally the DM called me and reimbursed my tow. Never going there again
5 STARS ALL AROUND. I walked out of work to a flat tire (never fun). I drove 2 miles up the road and walked in here. Told them I had a flat tire, within 10 minutes it was fixed and I was out of there. EVEN GAVE ME A DISCOUNT. They have some reallyawesome people in there. THANK YOU for not making this an awful Thursday afternoon!!!
I had a great experience here. I came in prepared to purchase a new tire because I had a screw in mine and wasnt sure if it was repairable so was going to buy a new one to be safe and they checked it out first and told me they could plug it. :) it ended up being free. The mechanic (Stephanie Lopez) was very nice and didnt take long at all. Ill be going back for regular oil changes :)
Pep Boys Customer Experience on 6/19/2016 – Father’s DayTo Who It May ConcernWe had a very unpleasant customer experience on 6/19/2016 with Pep Boys at 993 Middle Country Road, Lake Grove, NY 11755. We were there about 2 hours. Finally, we filed a police report before we left the workshop there.Sad customer experience #1: - inflated labor hoursWe paid tow truck and arrived Pep Boys workshop before 9:00am Sunday, 6/19/2016. Our car has only one problem – coolant leaking. We were the first customer. After 30-45 minutes after my car in the workshop, front desk employee came to the waiting room and told us the “start up” cost would be $986.43. We were shocked by this number? We asked him to repeat it again to make sure we heard it right. We also requested him to give the detailed explanation of this “start-up” cost. It was explained as 6 hours labor cost plus parts and tax. 6 hours labor hours to replace the radiator and hoses??? This was way beyond the reasonable charge!!! We asked how they came up with 6 hours. The answer was “by book.” We told This employee that we needed some research. We left Pep Boys, but our car was still in the workshop. Our research indicated it only needs about 2 hours labor to remove and replace the radiator and hoses. We suddenly realized what kind of business service provider we were dealing with and felt so sorry that our car was in the bad hands. We immediately went back to the Pep Boys and told This employee that we were going to pay their evaluation service and leave.Sad customer experience #2: - The battery light was on when we turned on the car engine and ready to leave.Our car was in the workshop for about 1.75 hours. Once we decided to leave, our car was pulled out from the workshop to the parking lot. We got into our car and turned on the engine and noticed the battery warning light was on. We immediately went back to the service desk and asked what happened to the battery because we did not have any problem with battery when we came to Pep Boys this morning. I was with AAA tow truck driver all the time and he turned on the engine a couple of times, and the battery signal never lighted. Also we had never heard This employee mention the battery issue in the entire time we were there. We came with one problem (coolant leaking), but left with two problems (coolant leaking plus battery warning). We felt so sorry for such fraud business attitude. We wanted to talk to the service manager. This employee said he is the manager. It is very strange that in this Store, the customer’s voice cannot be heard. Finally, we called 911 and filed the complaint. We obtained report CC number.We had more unpleasant customer experience with specific employee at this location on this day, but let us stop here. What we would like to say is the following:You can only win the business after you win the trust from customers.
I recently went into Pep Boys to buy replacement windshield wipers. All I had to do was tell them my make & model and they found the correct size for my car on the computer and even went over to pick them off the shelf so I didnt have to look myself. I was even more pleased when before I even paid, a store mechanic approached me and offered to put them on my car right then, free of charge. Extremely helpful, wonderful service.
Thank you so much for helping me out last minute and so close to closing time. Shah and Mickey got me in and fixed my tire situation quickly. Without them my weekend trip would have been cancelled. Most shops would have turned me away and said “come back tomorrow”, not those guys! Thank you Gents!
I would not trust my car to anyone other than Dominick and his crew especially Steve that always does a great job on my car. I know that when I go there that I am not being taken advantage of and only receive the services that are really needed to my car. Dominick is always very welcoming when I walk in the door and makes me feel that he goes out of his way to make sure that my car is safe to be driving on the road before leaving the shop. It is very important to me being a single mom that I get the services I need for my car and dont get taken advantage of when my budget is very tight. Pep Boys in Lake Grove is who you should trust your car to to get superior service and excellent customer relations!
Ive taken both of my cars to this Pep Boys shop in Lake Grove for the past year and I have to admit Ive been very happy with the service overall. The people Ive dealt with have been professional, respectful and the service has been performed as stated at a fair price. I agree with some commenters that the service could be performed a little more quickly, but overall Ive been happy. I recommend making an appointment online, although the times Ive gone without an appointment, theyve always managed to squeeze me in. For tires, batteries, oil changes and inspections - this is a much better place to go to than Sears and alot cheaper than the car dealers.
Don’t waste your time here they the mechanics there don’t wanna do anything the only good person there is the guy on the phone every one else Doesnt know how to fix a car they are slow and they are afraid to unscrew the oil filter and made up some stuff that it’s a special screwdriver that I have to go to dealer and they me wait an hour 3 times just to find out they could unscrew it I would not come here even for free came here twice and the mechanic was like this is an expensive car go to dealer and was afraid to do anything spend $10 more and go to the mobile gas station repair at 2033 Middle Country RdCentereach, NY 11720United States and they’ll change it right away no questions asked
Technicians specifically Daniel C, unfortunately do not know how to work on vehicles. What a shame that someone works at an automotive facility well known to the public, and you cant work/diagnose a car properly. Shame on the technicians and shame on Pepboys the company. Technicians like this need to be let go. Sorry, but true.
If you get anything out of this review, it is that YOU SHOULD NOT, BY ANY MEANS, GO TO THIS PEP BOYS. I wish I could give this business ZERO stars but unfortunately, the lowest rating is one star.I had a tire that was almost flat, so I called pep boys a few days in advance to be absolutely sure that they could change my tire for me since it was a run flat tire. I confirmed this TWICE, with two different employees that they could do it since I would supply the tire.I made an appointment for 10:30 in the morning, but when I got there at 10:30, they told me that they were backed up and would not be able to even look at my car until around 12:00. I totally understand that things do not always go as planned and that things get backed up, but I wish somebody had called to let me know first. My tire was nearly flat and couldnt go for many more miles.They called me at 1:30 to tell me that they could not switch the tire because it was a run flat tire. They have completely wasted a few hours of my life AND they were rude about it over the phone.This business does not care about the customers, and I would not suggest trusting your car to these people. I dont get how they get backed up when they dont have business in the first place??
Dominick and his team are fantastic! I know I can trust them to be honest about the services needed to keep my car running like new to keep me on the go and not break my budget which is a huge comfort as a single mom. Pep Boys has been my sole repair shop for years, in an industry where reputation can make or break a business customer service is definitely a priority for them!
1. Came in at 8am in the morning for state annual inspection....no one but me.... waited almost 40 minutes... still not done. At other places, it takes ~15 minutes....2. Came in for a battery replacement @ 8 AM with an appointment. Waited for an hour, but my car is still outside... not even taken in...already late to work... Quality of work I am not sure... but they need to improve their scheduling & timely service. Not recommend this place.
Terrible service. I scheduled an oil change and inspection on what was supposed to be their more free days. They told me itll take a little over an hour to do (suspiciously enough). After 3 hours of waiting they only changed my oil and they didnt reset my meter like I asked. They said that i never asked for a Inspection after telling me that an inspection would take an extra hour and I agreed. Terrible service, they dont listen. Im never comimg back here again
I’ve been going to 2 Pep Boys in my area for some time now. Brakes, tires, batteries and oil changes. Went to one yesterday in Lake Grove NY for a NYS inspection. 3 Year old Mercedes suv. Apparently NY changed the law since I bought it in regards to window tint. Mine was too dark as you are now allowed very little at all. Now when the tech walked over to get my car, I am sure he noticed as he does this all the time and knows the law changed. Did he tell the manager to let me know it wont pass? No. Goes through all of the motions and then...oops... glass is too dark. Fails me, charges me for an inspection ( fail or pass same price), and he scraped out my old sticker when he started. Can they remove the tint so I can get a sticker? No. Give us the $37 plus tax. I guess getting another job done for the daily activity sheet is more important than taking care of the customers. So now I drove out without an inspection sticker, trying to find somewhere to remove the tint late on a Saturday evening. I wonder how long before i get pulled over by the police. Done with them.
If I could give this shop 0 stars, I would. The mechanic did not fully screw my new tire bolts in after replacing my tires (they were the wrong size bolts, too!). After noticing my steering wheel was vibrating, I took my car into another mechanic in Manhattan. This mechanic was shocked that the front wheels didnt come off because the pep boy mechanic did NOT secure my tires to the axle. This is inexcusable!! Pep boys was lazy, careless, and put me in harms way! I will NEVER go back, and I strongly encourage that you find someone (anyone!) besides pep boys to work on your car.
My experience at this specific location has been exceptional. I have read most of the previous reviews which are ridiculous and invalid claims which make no sense. My name is: Phillip ANGEL Faria Jr.. The service manager is named Dominick Thorne. He is the recently new manager assigned to the store. He is an excellent manager and is customer-oriented. The staff are very knowledgeable and hospitable. Everyone goes out of their way to satisfy the customers positive overall experience. I highly recommend this specific Pep Boys Auto Service location for all your service needs. Its under new management and you will be extremely satisfied with your overall experience.
A few years ago this place was an absolute joke. Messy aisles, employees who either didnt know their stuff or did not care to help. Im not sure what happened but this store have vastly improved! As a matter of fact I will tell you a story in which they saved me a TON of money! I have a 2014 Charger R/T with the BT package (i.e., 20 wheels)- apparently this is a hard tire find in Suffolk county. I got a screw in my tire and I went to 4 different tire places who each told me they could not fix it and they had to order me super expensive replacement tires. I went on line and saw that Pepboys had my tires in stock- and at a reasonable price. I went to Pepboys expecting the worst- but as I was queuing up for the tires the salesman asked why I was buying 4 new tires. I told him that I got a screw in the tire and that it could not be fixed. He told me to hold off buying the tires to see if he could repair it. Lo and behold he said it could be fixed. 10 minutes and $10 later, I left a very, very satisfied customer.
Not a very good experience at this pep boys.. Bad customer service and under staffed. There was nobody at register for me to pay for my item. which was 1 bottle of car wash soap. i had to ask for a manager for help. After having a couple words with the guy who finally helped me. He turned around and refused to help me pay for my product. he wasnt very nice and he lost a sale and a customer. i will never go back there again.
I had a fantastic experience at Pep boys! The salesman Steve was beyond kind and accommodating. The auto tech Tariq was equally as wonderful. I was going to have tires installed but Tariq noticed something which would make installing them a waste of money. Rather than blindly just going for the money of tires and alignment, the gentleman went the honorable route and charged me nothing on top of all that honesty. As a woman I cant tell you how much it means to have Pep boys treat me right and actually save me money and heartache rather than go for profit. Pep boys of Lake Grove has my heart and loyalty. 🙂 Thank you so much!
Until now I went there several times with all good experience. several weeks ago when I did oil change in another pepboys store they told me that I need my brake replaced. but when I came to this store to check and replace the brake, they said it works fine now and does not need a replacement. they also asked me how often I drive and told me the brake may probably work until 3-4 month later.However if you need to be in hurry, please call them first. they have many cars waiting and appointments waiting, so they are sort of SLOW.
Great customer service had a great experience. I shop there all the time great deals good prices got my rims there just got my tires for my truck brakes done and oil change couldnt have been happier with their service went above and beyond to help me out with picking out good tires and the mechanic Mike is the go to guy in there happy with both my vehicles and will continue to shop here and get service done on my vehicles
I had a horrible experience for several reasons.My first complaint is that they advertise for a 30 minute oil change but it took them exactly 56 minutes to change my cars oil, which is nearly 5 minutes short of an hour and nearly twice the time it takes as they originally claim; Especially when I was the only customer in the entire store on a Monday at 12 oclock in the afternoon.My second complaint is that the employees are extremely immature and are careless when working on other peoples cars. For example one mechanic was smoking an e-cigarette while blowing the smoke underneath my car to make it appear as if the engine was smoking, then they were blowing smoke into the draws of the toolbox and then closing the draws and reopening them to watch the smoke pour out. Several employees were standing around and watching this take place while others smoked actual cigarettes in the garage, which know is illegal considering your surrounded by highly combustible fluids. This is all taking place while my car is supposed to be getting a 30 minute oil change.Another complaint I have is my mechanic not only wrote down my car information on the wrong car slip but he also wrote down the mileage so illegibly that I could not read the numbers.My final and major complaint is that the technician who worked on my car DID NOT properly close my hood. Hours later, when I left the shop I was driving west bound on the LIE traveling approximately 65 miles per hour when I noticed my hood was not close properly. Had I not noticed or increase my speed the hood would have flown open and I would have been blinded and easily would have got into a car accident and potentially lost my life all because of ignorance. I highly question their management, safety standards, and license to be operating on a car. I will never return or recommend Pep Boys of Lake Grove because of this horrible experience. Will never use pep boys again for any car repairs. Went there to get a leak checked out and inspection they pretty much told me they dont want to deal with my car. Which tells me they have no idea what theyre doing. would never recommend them to anyone in hope of getting your car fixed.
Great customer service, helpful & friendly staff. Fast and on time. This deserves 5 stars because most auto shops have crass grease monkeys who are curt and not helpful. I have come here several times in the past and will continue to go out of my way because of the team of workers here.
I went on a Saturday for my first NYS emissions/safety inspection, without an appointment. Was told there was 2-hr backlog when I handed them my keys. However, I only waited for 20-30 min before receiving a callback, which was a pleasant surprise.Turned out the vehicle needed license plate bulb replacement to pass -- $16 for bulbs and service. There was also part of a screw stuck in the rear license plate socket that I wanted to fix in order to install my license plate -- $57 for 30-min labor ($113/hr), which I found to be a bit expensive.Regardless, the mechanic (Gene) and service manager (Dominick) were friendly and informative as I stood by the garage to watch and ask questions.Total came to out to about $120 with sales tax. Though the staff are very professional and knowledgeable, the relative expense of repair will probably have me looking elsewhere next time.
Terrible experience - I have gone there twice now and both times I was treated badly. The first time I went for an oil change, and the staff insulted both my car and my driving ability. It took them 3 hours when there were very few other customers there. The second time I went to get oil, and 4 members of the staff were arguing for 20 minutes about who had to ring me and one other customer up. They were swearing in front of us and acting like we werent even there. And to add insult to injury, they overcharged me for the oil, even though they had a promotion going on. There is no way I am ever going back, unless they fire all the staff and replace them with helpful, competent people.
I have been to the Lake Grove Pep Boys store on many occasions, most recently with my new (to me) car, a 2012 Chevy Impala... I needed Dominick (store manager) to check the tires on the car and make sure they were ok... He checked, advised they looked fine but suggested they be checked for rotation and balance. I was in and out of the shop in no time, confident in the work that was done. Im not surprised though, I have always been satisfied with Dominicks honesty and integrity. I highly recommend this shop to anyone who needs work done on their automobile. Lastly, I dont know about many other shops, but what I call honest is Dominick checking the price of a new headlamp for my Impala... cost $44.00... I okd him putting it in... gotta have it right? ... instead Dom simply check the connections, found a loose wire, repaired it at no charge and I did not have to buy a new bulb... Thats honest....Go there, you wont be sorry.
I have been going to this location for a multitude of years. I want to personally say, the go to guy is Edward. He is highly professional, military minded, and very knowledgeable. That guy is the epitome of an expert. My vehicles drive like new. And THEYRE BETTER THAN NARDY. You guys rock!
TERRIBLE STORE!!!!I was the only customer waiting at the register to make a purchase. Employee passed by and said he would be right with me. He then proceeded out of the building and across the parking lot to put something in his car (could see him through the store front window), when he returned he marched right past me to the back of the store and disappeared. I had enough at this point and left the store without buying anything. Terrible customer service, talk about putting the customer last. I have been to this store previously and this is a recurring theme, employees with bad attitudes and no customer service skills.
Maybe 5 or 6 years ago? they were crooks. I have my spark plugs change (which was totally unnecessary with the new models), first they did not tell me... fine... and secondly they came out and ask me to paid them an extra hour of labor saying the spark plugs are hard to access. When I ask them to stop the work, they said no, it has already been half done. I should have been tougher. Years later, I found out from my mechanics that they put the wrong type of spark plugs in. btw, my mechanics had no problem accessing the spark plugs. I want to punch the guy in the mouth if I can only remember his face.
The mechanics helped me with something seemingly easy for them, but had become ac major hassle for me. And then i locked my keys in my car , which summed up the day I was having. And they took care of that for me aswell. So thank you pep boys for ending a crappy day with renewed hope for humanity. 👊

2022-07-05I stopped into Pep Boys in Lake Grove at the end of July for the first time as I was searching for a mechanic to assist me with pulling my drivers side window up of my Toyota Corolla . I called ahead of time and although the shop was super busy Tommy one of the managers there hearing how upset I was over the phone to fix it in 90 degree weather told me he’d get me in with his mechanic. The mechanic told me the problem was the button not the door motor which I bought for him to install . He was only able to pull the window up but not down .I had him do it as it was going to rain. I noticed when I left the shop the mechanic accidentally disabled my back windows . I returned to the shop the next t day understandably upset . Carl told me he was very sorry and had the mechanic get the back windows to work again . I told Carl my ac was broken n i I hadn’t been able to fix it upset since now I had no air . As a courtesy Carl told me to bring the car back and he’d perform a diagnostic on it and if it was a small problem he’d pay to fix my air conditioner as a courtesy . Carl kept his word and was professional as was Tommy . My Ac works beautifully now ! I would recommend anyone in need of a mechanic or in a bind to stop into Pep Boys in Lake Grove. They are professional and respectful and they keep their word and really care about their customers. Carl the owner has a very big heart as my mom is very Ill and I was under great emotional stress as well . Thank you Carl and Tommy for taking such good care of your new customer ,

2022-07-04Carl at Pep Boys in lake grove is AMAZING ! I had a stressful morning because of my flat tire and he relieved some of that stress with his wonderful customer service . I explained I had to go to work and I was concerned I would be late but he took care of me right away and assured me he would have my car ready in time to get there . He was very patient and understanding and I am so grateful for him and his team . Andrew who is one of the technicians who was assigned to work on on my car was also very kind , patient and efficient . He explained the options I had to replace the tire, and once we agreed he started working on my car right away ! This was my first time coming to Pep Boys so I was little nervous because I did not know what to expect but I am so happy I can here this morning !!! Carl and his team made this experience so smooth and stress free and I will definitely be back to have additional work done because of the amazing experience I had this morning . Thank you again Carl for all your help !!!

2022-04-14I had multiple tire punctures on Saturday, April 2nd. Carl and Byron assisted me. At every stage of service I was timely and honestly informed. Repairs were accomplished expeditiously. I was fortunate to have this facility help me. The integrity of this shop is a model for others.

2022-03-03I called over to Pep Boys Lake Grove upset. Carl said Come on over and we will take care of you! I went there & Carl couldnt have been nicer helping me resolve my car issue! Tariq serviced my car & it was good as new! They went above & beyond the call of duty! Their customer service far exceeds others! They resolved my problem with professionalism & care! Thank you so much for helping a woman in distress! Pep Boys they deserve a raise!I also purchased four new tires for my Lexus a month ago & my ride is smooth.Tommy was nice at the front desk too.

2022-07-01I had gotten a flat last night and I had work the next morning so I had to rush and get my tire fixed ASAP. I had gone to Walmart originally, and after I got ignored for about 15 minutes I had said forget it and went over to Pep Boys. I had gotten there a little before they had opened but Carl was willing to help me anyway. He gave me the best deal on the most basic tires that I had asked for and didn’t try to upsell me. He told me the latest he’d be done with changing both my front tires and my oil would be 10:30 when I had to leave for work. He was done by 9 when he started at 8. Fast and nice work with excellent customer service. Will definitely be coming back. Thank you!

2022-06-16Made an appointment for an inspection, waited for about an hour, no problem. I was then told that I needed two new front tires, a break light and windshield wiper. Fair enough, but since I did not have the money for those repairs at the time, and saying I would come back next week, minutes later, Im told the axles also need repair and though initially these were listed as suggested repairs (hence not immediately needed for the pass) they then added this to the fail list I suppose since I could not purchase tires and labor costs on the spot. Disappointed, will not be returning and will see a real mechanic like I should have.

2022-01-27We went to store 0172 last night for an emergency. We got a flat out of nowhere and it was close to closing time. Tommy and Andrew helped out big time. They took care of us when we really needed the help; I cant thank them enough. I do and will proceed to recommend them to anyone who has anything they need done for their vehicles. We would have been stuck, out in the cold, if it werent for them. Thanks again, guys!

2022-04-29I called at 550 pm knowing they were closing at 7. My oil light had come on. Carl said to come right down. I was taken almost immediately. Service was quick and efficient. Carl was extremely polite and friendly!!. I will definitely return!!
