This place is amazing! Staff is super friendly and helpful. The store is clean and well stocked. The prices are great too! I searched far and wide for a specific food that my cat needs because of allergies and this is the only store that has it.
The groomer here is amazing! Her name is Courtney and I can’t say enough good things about her! She really knows her stuff and is extremely gentle with our big dogs. Especially if the dog is a nervous nilly like mine...the store itself is staffed with knowledgeable people who are also very kind and helpful. I’d highly recommend Pet Project to anyone!
What a wonderful store with a friendly and welcoming staff. We often bring our dog here for lots of pets and treats, and she loves walking arounds its colorful and spacious aisles! A truly welcome addition to the Commack area, as we lack a family-owned pet store in town. Definitely check out Pet Project before the big boxes down the road...their prices are better and their selection is too!
I love this place! I got my gecko from here in august and she is so happy and healthy. I have only had one issue with the which is all the food we got for my gecko was dead, but once we told them they gave us the correct food and a little more for no extra charge! They are also really helpful and always take care of their customers!
This place might look good on the outside but just like every establishment created to make money it lacks any care or respect for the animals. It’s sad to see a pet store that is simply just there to make profit. The staff and management (which are a problem of there own) don’t know anything about small animal/reptile care. Prices for reptiles are extremely high especially for the type of lizards and snakes they have. Let’s not forget the poor turtle living inside a storage container. When asked they simply avoid answering simple questions about proper care simply give out false information about care. This place is clearly understaff and hires high schoolers to cover up for there own mistakes. Management is a joke, the two ladies don’t know what there doing. It’s obvious there just working for a paycheck and have no real experience working in customer service, management or small animal/reptile care. The older lady walks around without a face mask constantly making insensitive and very one sided comments either under her breath or extremely loud for others to hear while the other one just nods. What truly saves this place it’s the the grooming she’s friendly and is extremely good at her job with reasonable prices if it wasn’t for her I would avoid this at all cost. With the current situation in the world you would think this place would be a little cleaner but the floors are constantly covered in dog urine and filth. The carts and baskets always look dusty and sometimes are sticky. This place has room for growth but not until they fix the problems until then I’ll only returning for my appointments.
My son and I walked into this store on a whim. This is hands down the best pet store I have ever been to. I can’t believe I didn’t check it out sooner. It is fully stocked with everything. The people that work there, specifically the Manager Allison are fantastic. It is extremely clean and well organized. We had an absolutely wonderful experience there. Highly recommend.
I typically buy my dogs food/treats/etc on Amazon because of price and convenience, but since COVID has really impacted our economy, I think its important to support local businesses instead. I was so glad to find this store on my regular route, and was pleased they carry Hills Science Diet, and at a great price to boot. The staff was super friendly and helpful, and store was well stocked and clean. Ill definitely be shopping here from now on!
Omg my first time here and I am beyond appalled!! The way the guinea pigs are kept is disgusting. They have no room to move in these cubicles. They have no hay or pellets. Their nails are overgrown. You have 2 16 years old who don’t care. I am reporting this place to the SPCA
My dog got SUPER muddy and we came in pretty late in the day. Staff were super friendly and accommodating. The $10 cash self wash is awesome. I’ll definitely be coming back!
I am thrilled with the groomer Courtney. My dog Cookie loves her and she does a wonderful job. The dog grooming area is neat and clean. Highly recommend getting your pet groomed at Pet Project.
I visited this store with my family for the first time today. I was impressed with the store but even more impressed with the staff. My 4 year old son was walking through The aisle playing with his toy alligator. An employee told my son that he liked my sons toy then asked if my son would like to see a real lizard. The employee walked us over to the reptile area and took out an iguana. He held the iguana and let my son touch the iguana, then he did the same with a leopard gecko. My son was thrilled. I’m no expert but the reptiles seemed very healthy and like they where used to being handled by people. Then he told us that there where rabbits and guinea pigs by the front door if we wanted to see them. As we walked over to them another employee brought over carrots to feed to the rabbits and guinea pigs as my kids watched. I was so impressed by the kindness of the employees that I felt compelled to write a review. I have never written a google review before but felt that it was necessary to write a review after having such a pleasurable experience. This will most likely be my new pet store of choice. All employees where wearing face coverings and practicing social distancing.

Great customer service. Very friendly and extremely knowledgable. They recommended a different food and my dogs are doing great with it. They had everything I needed and what they didnt have they ordered it and i had it within 2 days!!! Love them and definitely worth the drive.
Food is cheaper than other big companies and the owner is very friendly and helps with whatever you need.

2022-03-05First time shopping here at Pet Project, they definitely made a loyal customer out of me! Staff was helpful, the selection of items and toys available for rabbits was so much greater than the chain pet stores. Also loved that it is privately owned too! The lady assisting us was so sweet and gave us a few samples for treats! Come here and give them a chance!

2022-03-28Went to pet project yesterday with my daughters, Was greeted by Christina who was willing to answer questions that my kids asked about the animals and even let them pet a few of the animals. Such a wonderful staff! We will definitely be back!

2022-03-16I stopped in yesterday and couldn’t believe the big difference in the fish area. Things looked so neat and organized. The bettas all have their own section now. The tanks were so clear and clean with a nice selection of fish again which I was very happy to see. I spoke with a man the other day who said things are still changing and to give him till the 26th so he can finish everything up. Can’t wait to see what he does there. Things like this where it shows someone cares and they have the experience will stop me from going to Petco.

2020-06-15I went in with the original idea that I was just going to look at a gecko and ended up leaving with both a gecko and a guinea pig i fell in love with. This is floof and mango. The staff here were super helpful and you really get good quality starter kits for such a low price on top of getting 20% off any additional items you may need after buying the kits. They both were so well taken care of prior to me purchasing them and I am already love with them. Thank you so much Pet Project!

2021-06-12Leopard geckos are considered to be one of the easiest beginner reptiles, and take a few months to starve to death as they try to survive off the fat reserves in their tails. Im appalled they let their animals get this bad, and have the gall to sell dying animals like this. No signs or writing or indication that it was being treated for illness and not for sale. The other lizards didnt look so healthy either, betta fish look pale and sickly, couldnt even tell if the hermit crabs were alive. Only the rodents and rabbit that were on display towards the front seemed somewhat in good shape. Prices in the store are rather high as well, especially for the sickly fish and reptiles. Very disappointed I couldnt support a locally owned store but this was a very upsetting sight.
