Petco at Gateway Mall in Brooklyn, NY, has always provided me with a great experience, every time I go there. The manager Shay, has groomed my YorkiPoo Freddie, every 6 weeks at 8:00am in Sundays. She has always been prompt, courteous, knowledgeable, Professional and friendly. Thank you Shay.
Each an every last store cant help me.with a bulkly things...like... I asked how do I buy a months worth of wet dog food for two old dogs.. an they couldnt help me.. I had to stand there an figure it out my self an .still came up short because I didnt think about the taxes on the food...but other wise I like the store
Ruedeana is one of the best dog groomer. I took my two babies there to get groomed. She was very kind and patient with me. She had them looking good. She explained how to take care of my puppies hair and which brush to use to prevent matting. I loved how she spoke to other customers with kindness and compassion and respect. She even stayed later so a customers could get her dogs hair washed. Now thats good customers service.
Great place to stock up on stuff for your pets. Friendly and very helpful staff. Great inventory. Shelves well stocked with good variety of products.We had our dog trained there. Wonderful and knowledgeable trainers. Came away with great tips to better handle our dog.
I was very disappointed in one of the saleswomen who refused to sell me a turtle because I wasnt going to purchase the tank she said I would need. I refused to spend $220 on a tank for a turtle that was smaller than the palm of my hand. Needless to say, my grandson was disappointed for his birthday
The only reason I’m giving 3 stars because it’s a Petco which is a chain store. Other then that this location is the worst petco I’ve been too. They haven’t had grooming services now for 6+ months, they never answer phones, majority of the workers have an attitude, and they are always out of stock on mostly everything! I’ve made many complaints to cooperate about this location and even when they brought a new general manager nothing changed. I would definitely not recommend this Petco. I’ve switched over to Pet Supplies plus in Howard beach way way better pet shop and they have vet and grooming services.
Never have full stock. Today I went to by my furbaby some refrigerated dog food. They were out like usual. So I bought pouch food the sign said buy 4 get 1 free. When it didnt ring up I asked her she keep pressing buttons and saying its not in the computer, I dont know what to do. I do keep my 1.69 and lose a customer!
Seems.like a very nice organized location. I asked a staff member for assistance and she was quite helpful and knowledgeable. The only thing I noticed is that they are lacking any snakes, reptiles for sale and cats and dogs for adoption. Im not sure if this is a common occurrence but it was my observation on the day I went. Otherwise a nice place.
The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. My ONLY bad thing to say is that the restrooms were really gross. Probably because the staff is busy with customers giving fabulous customer service. But please, clean the restrooms and make sure they are stocked, its also amazing that there is a bathroom, so I am grateful for that.
My only complaint is how unorganized the store lay out is and it can be quite overwhelming upon first entrance. Theres a woman, whose name escapes me, whom assisted me and gave me tips about my feline companion. I did an order pick up and although some items were missing, we scoured the store together and found it. I really appreciate the banter and she is a wealth of information. She had glasses and brown hair. I will edit when I remember her name.
Petco always has the products I need for my pet. Im always able to find what I need whether online or in-store. I did not like my most recent experience at the store due to the fact that I was not able to view a product I was interested in buying. I wanted to purchase a 75 gallon tank and when I asked if I am able to look at the tank before buying, the sales rep told me no. He was not rude about the issue, but the fact that I was not able to see the product made me not buy it. I looked online for moire info but the website informed me to go into the store. I do understand due to the outbreak, we have to implement new rules and procedures.
The staff was very friendly and helpful and explained we could order products online and pick up in-store ahead of time which is great. The staff that acted as a personal shopper for me got everything I asked for and was very nice. The staff was also very knowledgeable which I loved.
Looks huge on the outside. Not that big on the inside. Not a lot of variety for pets. Sections are small so its if they have it, they have it, if not, Oh well! The day i went it was one guy there doing inventory and cashier, he had no mask on whatsoever! Could be better!
I usually come to this petco to pick up pet supplies with no problem , however on Saturday i came to pick up a leopard gecko as a gift for my niece , as she loves being around the one we have at home. after being told by the manager Bridget who was the one that was supposedly selling us the lizard and all the supplies we needed to give her a few minutes more than once, she finally came and was able to help us we were told that the desert starter kit, which was available at gateway on the website was not available in store but that she would help us put together a terrarium and we agreed. she was nice at first however was trying to make us buy items that we knew were unnecessary as we have an adult gecko at home who is very healthy and happy. for example, she wanted us to buy a 20 gallon long tank for a leopard gecko which only grows to about 9 inches. we then picked up a 10 gallon tank for the leopard gecko hatch-ling and asked to buy the gecko. she then told us that she would not sell it to us because taking him home in that size tank he would die. she continued to insist that we needed three different lighting systems for the gecko and continued to refuse to sell us the gecko unless we agreed to buy all of the products right there. i understand that she wanted to make a sale but the way that she went about the situation was very unprofessional. then after i proceeded to tell her i was going to write a review about her, she then shrugged her shoulder to show her ID tag as if she did not care. as a petco rewards member for several years , having two different pets that we buy supplies for , i consider her behavior unacceptable
The site was unorganized. Their inventory state did not match what was stated online. I went to store for an item that was said to be in inventory. I stood on a long line (only 2 cashiers), got to cashier only to be told not in stock. Smh. Called Petsmart and they had the item and even had it waiting at the cashier in case I came in. Petco at Gateway, No! Petsmart at Avenue D, always!
Store was great in appearance, very clean and spacious. Staff immediately asks if you need assistance upon entrance and was pleasant. Wide variety of products for just about any type of pet. Price range is moderate, not expensive. Notice they have a grooming area, I will have to check that out on the next visit.
Great selection, great quality, prices are on the high side. But know what you need, they sold me two male mice, I had asked for two females. For mice, they expect me to fill out my personal info, for mice that most people feed their snakes? If they do this to you, use fake info.
Visited here few times, they are a bit understaffed, so when there are a few people there you will wait while for help but the few workers that they have are pretty cool. They have a bit of everything for most animals. Im more interested in the fish and they have good selection of supplies and a good variety of fish fresh and salt. They also help reptiles, rodents and birds. Worth a visit for your pet supplies.
This place was clean, but again the people I asked where stuff was couldnt tell me. This bothers me because you guys are here all the time and why dont you know where stuff is and if you dont cant you ask someone where it is, especially when the store isnt busy. Look if it was one of those days, then cool, but I asked 3 different people so are all of you having a bad day? Aside from that everything was cool I guess. Ill try again and see if I can come back change this review.
Amazing customer service. I was shopping for a pup that I just adopted that day. I was overwhelmed and excited at the same time. The first person I seen was Simone. She was merchandising and putting up new stuff. She helped without hesitation. Helped me with leashes, collars and explained options on food for my new pup. She was very understanding and patient which was very helpful because I had so many questions. After some time she introduced me to Yusef. He was also very helpful informative. I’ll definitely be coming back to take some lesson for my put. They were so helpful all the way up until I paid. Even the cashier (Rodger I believe) was very helpful and elaborated on the signing up to get rewards on future visits.I work in the customer service industry and I know great customer service when I see and feel it. I know customers can be very quick to write a negative review or complain. I just wanted to be just as quick to say that you had two amazing members. I ordered 2 bags of rabbit litter and they just gave 1 because the havent enough, the guy said I going to refund 1 I said I dont need that, just need what I ordered, So if u dont have the merchandise u should let the customers know before not once you are at the store. THANKS
Went in looking for lizard, turtle or hamster. Service was excellent. Didnt have any but was shown Guinea pigs by an employee with a great sense of humor. Promised me they were sociable and cuddle buddies. I denied that and was right. He made it a fun time for my daughter who was disappointed yet entertained. Thanks bro. However the fact he wore $800 Jordans to catch a Guinea pig should win him employee of the decade.
I Loved this Petco because the rep here was super helpful. He helped me get a cat tree box that was really heavy and high up on the shelves. It looked like he hurt himself but he got it for me. I appreciated the kind, and helpfulness from this store, Ill be going here again definitely. My cat loved his can tree and hes on it everyday. I reccomend this Petco to every pet owner.
Did not have what the site showed I can pick up. Lady made up some story that everyone is having a shortage of kitten milk replacement. What a lie, I found it in a different petco and than in their competitors (petsmart) with out a problem. I just didnt need to waste my time on this petco
Hello lovely reviewers! I hope you are all having a good evening and hope you enjoy your 4th!! I just wanted to get on here and ask you guys to give us another chance. We’ve been improving, getting the right people for the right jobs. We are a bit understaffed and I know it’s frustrating but although we make a lot of money at Gateway, we don’t make enough to always have more than 2 or 3 people on the floor and 1 or 2 people in the Grooming Salon. We apologize but we’re trying to get to where we need to be. However, we clearly can’t do that without you. Please let us redeem ourselves. If you ever have any issues please tell us then and there so that we could rectify it!As far as grooming is concerned, currently I am seriously understaffed and in the process of looking for pet stylists and grooming salon apprentices so once again please bear with me and if you make an appointment that 1-2 weeks away, we really do apologize. I am the Grooming Salon Leader here at Gateway and I work 6 days a week so I can get more of you in the salon as to not wait too long. We would appreciate it if you gave us another shot.
While making the purchase online it gave u an option if you will pick up or someone else , I chose someone else and entered their information yet when my husband went to pick up the items that information as per the clerk was not there, they gave him the items after what seems like a back ground check even though he had all the information via emailOtherwise i appreciate the service provided and appreciate them working during this timePick up was ready the next day after I placed my order and items were in stockThanks for your support
I have been calling for weeks at this Petco location and its horrible, no one answers at the groomers or at the front. I came in twice to the groomers and no one was even there when I called before going and no one answers the phone. How can you say you value pet owners when the phone rings all the time?! I been calling back to back to even schedule a grooming appointment and guess what, still no answer when most of the customer service people just walk around and do nothing. Do better!
The reason Ive given it 4 stars is because I know what it was like when they first opened. But they have brought in a new crew of experienced groomers and the system is working better than ever. I wish you all would come baack and give them a try again. Its very convenient and the salon opens earlier so you can drop off before going to work or shopping and will be ready by the time you get you return.
Horrible service and the employees clearly don’t care about the store whatsoever. They even advised that it would be ok to keep a betta in a cup it’s whole life and there’s dozens of dead fish in every tank. Furthermore every fish I buy from here dies within a few days. If I could rate 0 starts I would it’s absolutely horrible
Love Petco. This Store has everything. From Fish to Turtles. Very Clean and Well Kept Store. The Staff is awesome. They are very friendly and helpful. I really love coming here. They are well stocked. They also have grooming and vet services. Petco is really where you want to go for pet supplies and any information you may need. I always come here and I will continue to do so in the future.
Good place to get majority of your pet needs. One thing that can be annoying the line could be filled with people and only one cashier will be there. Other than that the employees are very polite. Thots location always has some deal to cater to your pet which is great. And some Saturdays the shelter will come for you to adopt a pet ^_^
HORRIBLE!!!!! I just brought back something & received a gift card. I tried to use the gift card 5 mins later & it didnt work in the store. The same store I got it from!!!!! The cashier says its the software. Dont shop there!!! Their system will rip you off....So I gave this place another chance on 6/5. I drove all the way there just to buy 2 snails. I asked numerous times if the snails were alive since: 1. There were too many dead snails in the fish tanks. It was hard to find any that were alive. 2. They hadnt been moving.I was assured that they were alive. Welp! by Saturday it was official... I had received 2 dead snails. I didnt even bother to return them. Yes, I wouldve received my $6.51 back but I would never get back the gas I wasted to drive back to Gateway nor my time. Im done with this Petco...
Gianina is the absolute best groomer at this location, She was extremely helpful and very professional. Everytime I come she is bubbly and working hard. She always goes entirely out of their way to make sure I am always a very satisfied customer. I highly recommend GIANINA aka Gigi TO GROOM YOUR PUPPY:)
A mental and physical waste of time!! Recently I went into the store to get information about the pet training classes, the young lady who assisted me was very nice and willing to answer all of my questions. After taking the night to think more about the idea of training classes I went in to pay for the classes the next day, only to find out from the pet trainer and an assistant manager themselves that the young lady lied and the services she told me were offered, were in fact not. The coming weekend I went in the store again for Vetco to get my dog his shots, afterwards I tried to get my dogs nails trimmed and was told that we had to wait 24 hours; 24 hours passed & I went back only to find out from the groomer herself that i have to wait 48 hours. But she took a note of the two matters of misinformation and took my number and said she’ll pass it on to the manager Neiko and have him give me a call. I went back two days later and the grooming salon was closed, I expressed my frustration to another assistant manager who said she’d offer me a discount if I come in the following day and also once again took my number and name and said she’d have the manager call but he still hasn’t. The following day I called before going in and the person I spoke with informed me that the grooming salon was closed. At this point I’m done with petco, which sucks because I live so close and was hopeful that it would work out but it’s not worth the constant trips and disappointment. I go in excited to get my dog trained or groomed and they just disappoint us both. Try at your own risk, every experience is different.
This is my spot for my little friends. They offer a variety of food, canned and bagged. They are also pet friendly. You can come with your pets a nd do your shopping. The staff are also very friendly and helpful. They advise you what items and food to get for them. My children love coming in here with the doggies. They also have clinic days. Vets come to do shots for your cata and dogs at a decent price.
Their workers are a great help! Ive been here twice to find products to help my dogs allergies and finding a good brand of dog food.Selena helped me both those times by giving me information about certain products that would help his allergies. Also dog food brands that will help my dogs skin and coat.
Stopped into see what was in store and also to help teach more focus to our pup because we THOUGHT it would be a good option since there many distractions. A few workers were overbearing, obnoxious and intrusive. They assumed we were new dog owners that were inexperienced and it was a rather annoying experience. We welcome conversations regarding our pup but can definitely do without others assuming they 1.) know our beloved dog better than we do and 2.) know whats best for our pup. We wont be back simply because it really was irritating to have to deal with that level of ignorance. Weve been to other Petco stores and the experience is much more enjoyable and easy going.
My dogs eat the Whole Hearted Petco brand. Otherwise, Id probably do chewy or something more convenient and hopefully less expensive. But, I got a big bag of dry food and there was no bag or straps for the bag. This is massively inconvenient. This happens often. But the Unleashed on 7th Ave is worse. They NEVER have anything to help you carry giant heavy bags of food. At least the employees are always nice and helpful.
The worst customer service ever. I was there this weekend and the manager Liz was such a bit$@. She is so UNPROFESSIONAL. I went to do a return and she made such a seen that all the customers were looking at me. She made me feel like I stole the items I was returning. Then had the nerves to tell me she is doing me a favor. No Liz you are not doing me any favors, I bought the items and I am entitled to return it. I remember a couple of months ago customers were talking about how bad of a manager she was. I do not know how Petco can have such an IGNORANT person working there much less being a manager.
Ive visited Petco of Gateway quite often since becoming a pet parent! My visits are always pleasant. Yesterday I had a very in depth conversation about my journey as a pet parent with an employee named Merly and it was so great! She gave me so MUCH useful advice! Kudos to her for being so passionate and informative to her customers!
Floor sales represent was very rude it was a little a busy I understand....I said to them when you get a chance I need your help. They me gave a nasty look of disgust did even said to me give me a moment I will be with you shortly.....they just look me dead in the face and walk past me. So I just walk out the store.
Limited selection of animal products + when I wanted to ask a question I had to wait for the Cashier / Store Clerk to finish his cig break.Found the same products online at half the price + free shipping. Drawback: Waiting on your products to arrive. So, you might want to re-up before your current supplies are depleted.
I tried stopping in on my way home tonight to pick up food for my dogs but was physically locked out of the location by 8:00pm on the dot. Bear in mind I watched a couple walk in immediately before me, at maybe 7:59pm. The dude who closed the door in my face returned to the glass door when I knocked on it only to relay the message, were closed after my telling him I need to grab a single bag of dog food.Okay. So at this point I pull out my cellphone and call the store...alas, an answer! Maybe the same obnoxious guy who closed the doors on me, who knows. Said person proceeds to advise that the registers are all closed. Bruh, at 8:00pm sharp, though?! I am practically pleading, asking to grant the courtesy of letting me in so I can purchase a bag of food. No such luck. My dogs are currently on a special diet and will have to wait until tomorrow night after work to eat (maybe I can boil them some rice). I guess theyll live, right? In any event, great job, Petco! I most certainly will be writing corporate regarding their deplorable service. Disgusting.
For such a large store this place is barely stocked seriously like not even bare minimum with anything it is so very annoying to go 2 this place knowing literally full well that there is a 85 % chance of them not having what I am gonna be looking 4 that should definitely b in stock a majority of the time . & I only stop here again & again in hope of some change because its right off of the belt parkway on my way home but way disappointing
Terrible grooming experience. Aside from cutting my dog, leaving leashed on the floor for hrs w/o calling to inform me. I had to take my dog back so they could fix his haircut bc it was left uneven. When I picked him up from the 2nd attempt to fix his hair, he came out looking the same. I will never take my dog back to this place, incompetent people. Take youre pets here at youre own risk. Wish I didnt have to apply stars, they dont even deserve one.
If there was a zero I would give it .. we went to Petco to get some fishes and a young man approached us ask us what we need we told him he started asking questions but in a rude way and when he got the info he suggested we not buy anything .. we didnt ask for his opinion we came to buy fishes and if they die well we come back and buy more .. whats the big deal I thought making a sale was great ..Rahim youre not a great salesman this is America every dollars counts
Its a convenient to have the store in the neighborhood but the grooming department is horrible. I took my girl daisy to get pampered on three occasions the first and second cut was beautifully done but the third cut was horrible. I found out that they change the young lady who trimmed my baby before. I went back to petland. For the same service that cost around $60 I pay $47 at petland.
It took weeks to get Purina canned dog food...I finally got the food at target.I also bought a very dangerous no pull harness for my chihuahua that she slipped out of it and thank God she stayed in place and let me put it back on her. She could have run away but God was watching over her.this is a red and black and sells forv $20. You should stop selling this item it is very dangerous.
Went to purchase some goldfish and every time I go I see the tanks are filled with dead fish. The workers claim the fish just died but you can see the fish have been dead for a while. Female Indian looking cashier claimed to be a manager and was refusing to sell me some goldfish. Mind you they always try to sell you all kinds of stuff. She was very rude and claimed that my water was causing my goldfish to die. In front of my eight year old she says loudly she was not going to cell me any fish because it could be my home waterBe more professional lady and sensitive on front of children idiot. The next girl in the store packed the fish up for me and was very professional. Their store needs to be graded
The grooming departments appt. system SUCKS. Twice I made an appt. and both times I had an issue. The first time I made an appt: I went in on the assigned appt date; they told me that I didnt have one and that I had actually missed it. (Me being a stickler for keeping appointments) I told them they were wrong. After a few minutes of banter, they told me someone canceled and I could take theyre spot. (I said to myself you mean my spot). The 2nd time; not to have the same issues I called 2 days prior to confirm my appt. They told me that I didnt have an appt. (here we go again). Again with the back and forth banter. I even tried to explain to the clerk that,while I was making the appt: the clerk told me about a new shot that all the dogs needed and every Sat. a team of Vets will be there to give shots at a low cost. And that my dog could come in 24hrs.after he recd his shot. I told the clerk how would I have known this if I didnt speak to a clerk. Well. she had the audacity to give me a spiel about people manipulating the system. WHHAAAT. NEVER MIND. That same day I looked up Pet Smart in Canarise; seen that I can actually make an appt. on line. I called to confirm my appt. They told me who my groomer would be. I went on my scheduled date. No Problem At All.That being said PETCO GROOMING APPT. SYSTEM SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!! And they could also brush up on their grooming skills as well. Just Saying.

I love this location, I took my dog there twice with two different groomers and both times I was really happy with the way they treated my dog and the everything they did. From the way they treated him to the great price. The Groomer Donald did a great job, my dog was very calm and comfortable. Thank you so much Petco 👍🏼 Ill be coming back soon.

2022-01-27The store itself isnt bad, rather the store employees could use some work. Everytime I go inside, it is hard to find someone for help and the only one I can see is on the register. Being that many pet store have closed down, this is the only one remaining in the local area. The selection can vary from time time, same days you find better toys and accessories than others. One thing I can say, the dog selection is always fully stocked compared to the cat section. There usually clothes you can find for dogs and if you are lucky, sometimes cats. There is always pet food stocked which I would praised them for. They also offer grooming for dogs which is also great since this is the only service you can find nearby. It also have same day pick up which is useful when you are in rush. It is a good store that has growth for improvement.

2022-04-26This location is nice and has a lot to offer but just didnt meet my need this. I was looking for a xs kitten collar with a bell, possibly a harness & a simple teaser stick toy with a bell. The collars and harnesses available were for cats cats not kittens so they were too big. The selection was very limited as well, just a little tiny corner wall with a few things. The same went for the cat toy. They had a few but with feathers and things that look like they would be easily destroye. They also seemed overpriced on these items. We ultimately left without buying anything.

2022-07-01Dead fish.... poor treated lizards and a Dog grooming area what isnt fit for prison, always some new dead fish. Dont even bother just buy supplies from Amazon. Workers just dont care and ignored me when I pointed out the dead fish.

2021-01-22Went to this petco last week to find some fish for my new tank. First of all no one knew anything and kept passing me off to other employees that they claimed worked in that department. The aquatic section was not cared for and the tanks had more dead fish than live ones. There was even a man in there with his son who was supposed to get a fish and the child was traumatized at the sight of so many dead fish. When an associate MIKE finally came over I asked why there were so many dead fish he responded that it just happens and started scooping out the dead ones in front of me with no regard as to how I might feel. I ended up leaving without purchasing because I felt that there tanks were too contaminated for me to trust bringing home a fish from them. I am attaching images because it was truly a disgrace.
