My favorite PetCo store in the area. The staff is nice, place is fairly clean and the prices arent bad. The only part that could use a bit of cleaning up is where the ferrets are kept. It is usually a bit stinky in that area and being that they currently dont have any in the glass enclosure, there shouldnt be anything in it
Worse experience EVER!!!! I went there to purchase just 2 gold fish, first off, I was trying to show her my grandsons size tank to ask how many fish it can hold and the girl continues to walk and I’m like HELLOO and she said I can hear you, and I responded I’m trying to show you my size Tank to know how many fish I can get, she responds, oh no, tanks aren’t for gold fish, they grow up to a foot long and aren’t for tanks and I’m looking at her like, are you serious? I told her I’ve had 2 fish for well over a year and had no issues until now and just need one or two, Ste responds again, they aren’t for tanks! I would rather you tell me you don’t wish to help me then insult my intelligence!! Why are you selling all those fish tanks of fish aren’t supposed to go in them??!! I spoke to the manager when I got home but I just don’t feel that’s enough because that was the worse customer service ever!!! Pass the customer off to someone that’s willing to assist your patrons instead of feeding nonsense going forward!! Will never go there again and if I do, I won’t deal with her!!!
I used to bring my dog here for his nails to be trimmed before I moved 5 hours away! He’s a pug and a handful but they always did wonderful with him! They were very friendly and knew how to treat animals. I’m leaving this review to share how much I really appreciate the people in the grooming salon. I recently brought my dog somewhere for the second time where I live now and was asked not to come back and that he needs to be medicated which hurt my feelings so much. Never once did I have an issue like this before with a place. So I just want to say THANK YOU to the groomers here! Thank you for always being nice and welcoming, thank you for always taking my handful of a pup and not complaining about it! I miss you guys so much! I might have the name wrong but I think it was Alyssa, maybe Ashley.. that took him most of the time. She had purple hair at the time.. maybe still does or maybe she’s not even there anymore but I just have to give my gratitude to the staff here! Rufus and I miss you!
I love PetCo as they have my dogs favorite food and his favorite pumpkin soup. The staff could definitely improve in customer service/ customer experience as they will all be at the register talking and your a complete bother to them when it’s time for you to cash out. I still choose PetCo over PetSmart any day. I wish the staff at this location would take the initiative and become more helpful.
I have brought my dog here about 5-6 times a year for the last 3 years and they did a good job. Today when I picked up my dog I couldn’t even recognize him- he was completely shaved and looked NOTHING like himself or how his breed is supposed to be cut. The groomers / employees were extremely rude and not the least bit apologetic. I will NEVER take my dog to petco for grooming again or ever go in there for any reason. Disgusting excuse for people who are supposed to know something about dogs. DO NOT trust these people with your dog!!!
Nice clean store. Staff is friendly and good with suggestions.Dog Trainer Andrew is by far the most patient and positive trainer. My dog does not allow anyone to touch her, by lesson 6 she allowed him to pet her after taking a treat. Try him, if you need a good trainer
While I do prefer shopping at non-chain locations, I cant complain about the variety and convenience of this location.They have the special treats that my cat loves, so thats a big plus. Things are frequently on sale.I love looking at the ferrets - its the highlight of my visits!My only semi-complaint is that sometimes theres nobody manning the register. Its not like I end up waiting forever, but it can be annoying when a line forms. That said, the employees are always super friendly and helpful!
I placed an order online for curbside pickup. The use of the site as well as the ease for pickup was good. I was surprised when it took less than 30 minutes for my order to be ready. What was disappointing was after returning home from getting my purchase I realized I was given the product without the packaging. I have never used a muzzle before and the directions would have been helpful. When I contacted the store they didnt seem too concerned but said they would let the manager know.
The associates at the counter were talking to each other while I was waiting to be called up. When I finally got there the female associate rudely asked for my first name, opened the cabinet and proceeded to mention to the male associate that my order was the one they couldnt find earlier. Meanwhile Im staring at my product right in front of her and ask her if that isnt my order right there. She proceeded to condescendingly tell me she didnt know because it didnt have a label on it, then asked me my last name. She realized at that point she couldnt verify if it was mine or not because there was no label with my name on it, then told me I needed proof of my online purchase. I pull up my email confirmation and she pushes it into my arms and continues conversing with the male associate. I ask if I can leave it on the counter for a moment (because its heavy) so I can look at their selection of live fish quickly. She rolls her eyes at me and tells me to set it down. When I come back from looking at the miniscule selection of live fish shes now gossiping about me to her female manager. Very terrible customer service if you can call it that and completely unprofessional. I will be taking all my business elsewhere from now on, absolutely shameful experience.
Dont go here to get your dogs nails clipped. They missed half her nails and put in the wrong date for her rabies and then made me go get her paperwork when I was had to get them cut on another visit. The girl with the red hair is always rude. After giving them a 3rd try with issues we wont be back.
Out of all the petco locations in the capital region... I love this one! All the staff are so nice. Always going out of their way to help you. I made the mistake of doing an online order at another location and was so disappointed with the customer service. Lesson learned will stick with Latham!
Amazing service, the employees here are super knowledgeable and helpful. Waay better than petsmart. Petsmart employees really like dog balls. Like REALLY like dog balls, its weird. The employees at petco dont have that weird obsession with dog balls. Although if you need a ball for your dog theyll be happy to help you find the perfect one.
I drove 20 minutes to your Troy store because online it said you were open till 7pm its 6:36pm and your doors are locked.. I looked around to see if you had your temporary hours up on the doors and you dont even have that up.. I understand covid is going around and everything is changing but at least the place I work at we have our temporary hours on all our doors.. I really like this store because this is where I come to get all my hamsters stuff but honestly its frustrating when you dont even let you customers know that you are closed. 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
We brought our dog to be groomed and they cut her completely wrong. Apparently she didnt hear when we spcificly told her not to cut too much from her face/beard area and we came to pick her up and there is nothing left. She looks rediculus and nothing like our little girl. Very upset.
Friendly service at a reasonable price. Alison and Jess in the grooming department are fantastic! I can’t say enough good things about those girls. My dog is recognized and greeted by his name every time we come (as if he is their own). Our corgi Nipper loves them and looks forward to every grooming session!
The groomers take wonderful care of my 2 dogs. The dogs are recognized on sight and are not afraid to be there. The groomers listen and act appropriately when there is an issue with the dogs. For example, one dog had surgery on her leg, an issue caused by another grooming place. The girls at Petco made notes and made sure that when it came time to care for her legs and nails, another groomer was there to support my dog by holding her. I dont hesitate to bring them to Petco.
I really love and appreciate the quality of service given here. The employees from the managers boss to the managers and on, are very accommodating and kind. I call there as many times as I need to and never received an attitude as if Im bothering the employees or when I come there 50 million times in one week (Im exaggerating but I do go a lot also), they treat me with kindness and respect and they treat my babies ( muffin and biscuit even though as of today, I am changing their names because we almost had a bad run in with a snake this morning when I was loading them into the car to take them to the store) with love and care.I am grateful after being told by manager at PetSmart located at crossgates Commons, Albany ny, that she did not feel comfortable selling me birds and broke my heart in such a way for whatever her reasons against me. This store gave me a chance to be the pet owner I am to be. They did not look down on me for whatever reason and helped me in every way to make sure I cared for my beautiful babies properly. No matter what the question I have big or small, they are always glad to help.Claire, Shannon, Scarlett, Andre and everyone else (please forgive me if I forgot your name or got it wrong. I dont know everybody now!) They are always there helping me and they love the pets in that store also. They are knowledgeable on what they specialize in. And they dont try to force you to do or buy anything! I really am grateful to have came in that store that day and received my two beautiful blessings. They know how dear they are to me.Keep up the good work guys!
I like the direction the store is going in with more natural food selection which inspired me stop in. I came for mouse supplies, some of the hideouts were a little pricey but they had a great selection. The Kaytee Silent Spinners were outrageous! I saved $12 on the 6 inch wheel just by going to a different pet store.
This place is the best Petco that I’ve been to. Clean and tidy with friendly staff that are more than happy to help you when you ask. Stock is well organized easy to find, pets are well-kept, and you can tell that the employees there and know what they’re talking about when you ask them specific questions.No complaints here!
I have gone to this location for pet grooming for six years. This morning I was treated so rudely by the newer pet groomer that I will never return to this store and I immediately brought my dog and her paperwork to Petsmart where we received amazing grooming services without any wait and my dog also was more comfortable there as well.I approached the location at 9:50 with another patron and was told as she let the first woman in that the store was only open for grooming. I asked “oh, great, I’m here to get my dogs nails done” the girl begrudgingly let us in with an “oh ok fine.” Since the woman ahead of us was in the grooming area with her dog I don’t like to crowd dogs with my own because some people like space. I waited just outside the grooming area until the took her dog. The girl then came out and said, “yeah we can’t take you, the registers are not open yet” she was not nice about it. Then she opened the front door and said you’ll have to wait until ten. Mind you it’s 9:55 now. She closed the door and made me feel like my business was not welcome at all. The previous groomers at the Latham location were great and when they saw us coming knew us and really loved our dog. I just stood there on the side walk for a minute thinking, do I really want to continue my relationship with this store if I’m being treated really rudely and the answer I came up with was definitely not.I went home, got my dogs records, drove to Petsmart and the took me right away. Not only did they do an amazing job, there were 5 people in the grooming area happy and busy. My dog doesn’t like to get her nails done and normally the people at Petco could only grind her back paws and clipped her front but charged me for grinding all four. The woman at Petsmart was like, hold off on paying because if I can’t get all of her nails ground I’ll just charge you for clipping. That surprised me. But you know what, she was able to get her nails ground down, all of them and did a great job as well. She was nice to my dog and so professional. I’m sold. I will never walk into Petco again and if anyone wants my opinion I’ll let them know too.It makes a huge difference who you hire to be the face of your business and the customer service at Petco sadly has declined.
Very professional.. I found a new groomer for my puppy girl ...I took my dog back for a bath a trim and nails cut ... No such a good time for her she was traumatized even after we got home she was still shaking and it took a while before she calmed down.. Not taking her back there ...
Horrible customer service; I wait on the phone 15 minutes for some to answer, when I finally get to speak with an associate Amanda I ask for the availability of the otocinclus fish, instead of check she just said I think we dont sell those fish, no. However, Petco do sell them, they just happen to not have them in stock on the other stores around this area.
The employees who work the registers dont have the knowledge or the ability to handle a store. They are the ones that customers see and should act as professional as possible. I tried exchanging a bag of cat food that my daughter purchased, so I brought it there and the cashier wanted to give me a merchandise credit instead of just swapping the bag of dry cat food ( same price just different flavor),without my daughters Bank card they couldnt exchange. So they went to get Scott the manager on duty I believe but he was doing something the young lady said to the other. Well I will certainly not be shopping any longer at Petco. I would not recommend this store to anyone.
I give it 3 stars because I am new to this company and they need to prove to me that the 4th and 5th star is a proven commodity. I have purchased a couple of things over the past couple of weeks and thus far I find myself satisfied. There are an awful lot of items in the store, which makes it a little challenging to find what youre looking for. Maybe if it was sectioned out a little better, I wouldnt find myself in the reptile aisle while looking for a cat litter scoop. The help I received from one male associate was very good. Very familiar with various products. The second time in store the female associate had no knowledge at all about cat litter as she stated she does not have a cat. She said shed ask another associate who happened to be a female and familiar with the litter products, gave the one who did not know, a suggestion as to what is good and ones not so good, but never actually came over. Have you ever played eanie, meanie, mynie, moe? Well, I picked a litter, and to the check out counter I would go. If my cat says what the hell, Ill need to study litter for a spell.
This place sells feeder fish with parasites stay away. I just feed my red ear slider feeder fish I purchased from this location and 3 days later I find my beautiful huge turtle dead. I had her for 7 years she was still growing, very healthy never had a problem with any foods till I bought her these fish. All they can offer me is another turtle and I do not want a replacement I will never buy from them again. Horrible they have no remorse on selling bad fish that can kill a part of the family. R.I.P baby girl 🐢
Lazy employees. Understaffed. I had to go check a price when it rang up wrong, only to get back up front and wait thru a ridiculous line. No apology from employee for the wrong price and inconvenience. Got an email survey about my experience, and after filling that out the manager called me back. Implied I was lying. Incredibly bad customer service. I usually gothe Petco in Colonie and have had only great experiences there. Will never return to the Latham store even tho its closer. Seriously, if you want great customer service, drive the extra 10 minutes to Petco Colonie. Totally worth it.
The pet trade is problematic and persistent and Petco is a prime example, but it is just the way it is. Prices are high for my taste and animal display seem too small. DO NOT purchase Ferrets at Petcos, they come from Ferret Farms and die a painful and slow death from Adrenal Disease.
This place is appalling store #3749 ! Store manager really needs to step it up . The ferret cage is disgusting there is poop in the corner has been there for days! The food has separated so the babies cant even eat. There are flies flying all around in side the cage . This is why chain pet stores should not have exotics. They have no clue and no standers !

2022-05-19I purchased a ferret and she unfortunately passed away overnight just 33 days later. Petcos customer support said to call the individual store to see what they can do, but I was met with there is nothing we can do and they are being very strict about our return policy. I am very disappointed in how they communicated this and I will no longer be a customer at Petco.I have researched (probably too much) on ferrets in this time, and I found it very disappointing to see so much about Petcos very improper breeding practices for their pets. I DO NOT recommend ever purchasing a pet from Petco or PetSmart due to the many negative genetic/health implications this will lead to.

2022-04-22Usually have what I need, typically hit or miss on wet cat food. The store has closed early twice (2+ hours) the last two times I have came which is kinda frustrating. Great friendly service from team members though.

2021-05-12We only come to this location for the grooming service. We take our 120lb GSD/Lab mix to see the best groomer there, Kitana, once a month. We book a bath with shed release package. Kitana always takes her time and takes care of our Moose. His coat is always super shiny, completely dry and not damp like some other places, his nails are buffed super smooth and even the extra hair on his pads are trimmed...and he always comes out smelling sooooo good!. For a very big dog that goes out 3 times the day, the scent from the bath lasts an easy 2-3 weeks.

2021-12-28I do wish there were more choices and cheaper prices. Specifically a smaller front open habitat for my hermit crabs... and a better price. : (But Petco offered a clean, welcoming atmosphere and the associate was able to help me save money on my purchase ($10 ... better than nothing)

2019-01-30On Saturday January 26, 2019 we took our dog in to get her nails clipped ($10). She also needed her anal glands expressed (another service that PetCo offers for $10). When we asked the groomer, she had a clear look of disgust on her face, and sighed dramatically. I get it - no-one wants to spend their Saturday with their finger in a dogs rear. We paid for both services, and our dog was in-and-out in less than 4 minutes. I asked if she was all done, and the groomer claimed she was. I specifically asked if her other procedure was complete, and was assured that it was. Later that evening, our dog was again dragging her rear on the floor - and has been for the last three days. I believe we paid for a service that was never performed, and were deliberately lied to in order to avoid performing an undesirable duty. When we called to rectify the situation, we explained the problem, and were transferred to another line that rang with no answer for several minutes (not on hold, a ringing line). We eventually gave up and are calling it a $10 loss. Bottom line: pay for what you can see, and prove - like nails or coat-cutting. Dont pay for something you cant see, like brushing of your dogs teeth, cleaning ears, or anal expression.
